How to CD to find out which hardware is playing up

Question: How to CD to find out which hardware is playing up

My computer has been playing up for a while, I just got a CD which should find out which piece of hardware is defective, do I have to boot up from CD through the bios (and if so how to do that) or do I boot up into windows first and play the CD normally? The CD is called Ultimate boot cd.Thank you.

Preferred Solution: How to CD to find out which hardware is playing up

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: How to CD to find out which hardware is playing up

As far as I can see click here is not really a tool for an 'Absolute Beginner'.If you want to run it you will need to set the BIOS to boot from the CD drive click here then restart with the CD in the drive.

So this blue screen has been happening randomly when playing some games and using some applications ever since I built my pc 2 years ago. I've upgraded some parts and completely re installed windows 7 in the past but it hasn't been fixed. Now it has started to happen again after I started playing Guild Wars 2. I'm pretty sure nothing is overheating because I recently got a much better heatsink and added a few case fans. I've monitored the temps while playing games and they never go near high enough to cause a blue screen. The only parts I haven't upgraded recently are my cpu, ram, motherboard, and HDD but I've ran tests on each of those in the past without anything showing up. It could be a simple driver issue, but I've posted on forums in the past about this issue and people usually tell me its something hardware, they just don't know what. If you need more info just ask. Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks!

Hey all,

I recently rebuilt my computer, and often when I play video games, (anything from Minecraft to League of Legends to Age of Conan), my computer will stop responding for 30 seconds to 3 minutes. This freeze happens probably once per hour, but I've seen it go as often as every 5 minutes, or as rarely as only once in 4 hours.
Below are my computers specs:

CPU
Intel i7 2600k (3.4 gHz)
Motherboard
Gigabyte Z68A-D3H-B3
Memory
2x4gb Kingston HyperX (1333mHz)
Videocard
ATI Radeon HD 4870
Soundcard/Speakers
Integrated - Using Realtek Audio Drivers
PSU
ABS Majesty 1100W Single Rail
Operating System
Windows 7 (x64)

Here are some of my thoughts:
I don't think that this is network lag. I have over 10 computers running off of my network and this is the only one that I experience any issues with.
It could be a driver issue, however I have re installed many of them, updated them, tried different versions, etc.
I've kept a close eye on my temperatures, and I don't think it is that - My CPU runs at 40 degrees Celsius at it's hottest, and my GPU rarely exceeds 60 degrees.

More details on the freezes
My computer doesn't stop 100%, it slows down to a crawl. I keep music playing in the background, and when the freeze occurs, it'll buzz out maybe half a second of music throughout the duration of the crash (you can hear a super slow change in pitch, etc).
The freeze also seems to happen more often when more intensive applica... Read more

Hello

When I play Diablo 3 I get some fps drops , usually at the same places. usually im around 130 FPS but can go down to 50 or even 25 sometimes when its bad. its not unplayable but its no fun at all.

The places are demanding I guess, there is a lot of **** on the screen and action all around.

My current setup :

Nvidia 780Ti HOF , goes to around 60C during load
i5 4570 goes to around 65 during load
8 GB ram,

Im assuming the 780Ti should be able to handle Diablo 3 even when its demanding?

I used an AMD r9 290 earlier and got the same issue at the same places.

Before I changed card from the 290 to 780Ti I formated my computer and installed Windows 8 Pro.

So it shouldnt be any software causing this,

Am I doing something wrong here?

Is it perhaps my CPU?

What can I do?

if you want to I can record the actual gameplay and show you

When I connect a Plug n Play device to a USB port (Compaq SR1000V), the "Found New Hardware" Wizard pops up. There is no software to install, but the Wizard wants some. If I click through on installing the software, eventually I get a dialog box saying the device is not properly installed. If I cancel out of the Wizard, I can actually run the device; but every time I plug it in or on startup if I leave it connected, the Wizard appears again. This happens with a Skype headset (I double checked with the manufacturer - no software), a flash drive, and a camera - all supposedly Plug n Play.Thinking there might be a USB problem, I uninstalled all of the USB ports/hubs listed in the Device Manager (they reinstalled). The Device Manager says they are all working properly. The headset and the flash drive work OK in another computer. Can I fix the Wizard?

Answer:Stop Found New Hardware Wizard from playing

Hi, after you helped me in a previous post:
(Different BSOD everyday)

No BSOD's in about a week so was very happy. However today I encountered another BSOD.
Was playing CIV 5 when it occurred and again the Minidump folder was empty. I managed to take a picture of the BSOD as when it happened it would not go away, I left it fro about 10 mins and had to manually restart my PC.

In the BSOD it says there is a hardware issue, coming up to Christmas I can afford to replace hardware in my PC but I don't know which piece is causing the problem?

Thanks for your time.

Hey. I'm looking to upgrade my brothers' computer. I need a new mobo, CPU, and some RAM modules.

Now, I know I can go to newegg myself and look there, but I also know that you guys are pros when it comes to this, and I'd like the best bang for my buck. So I'd appreciate it if you could help me find the best deals out there (from newegg).

Ok, so for mobos, I prefer AMD-based socket 939 (please no AM2--just 939) and exactly 1 PCI-E x16 slot (for later upgrading). For now, they'll be using onboard video, though, so make sure that that's at least mediocre.

For CPU, any 939 Athlon 64 will do.

And finally, for RAM, just please have it be compatible with the mobo. No more than 512MB is needed (again, at least just for now. 3-4 sockets for RAM is preferred).

In total, I don't want to spend any more than $225 including S&H, excluding mail in rebates.

Thanks, dudes.

Have been experiencing BSOD regularly and occasionally RSOD. It is happening at least once each time I play intensive steam games, most recently Project Cars.
I am not overclocking.
First i though it must be the temp of the CPU or GPU, but the CPU is sitting at 45 deg and GPU is maxing out at 62 deg as i have an aggressive fan mapping to ensure that it was keeping cool.
Have stressed tested memory with memtest86+, CPU with Prime 95 and GPU with FurMark
Windows is up to date.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Answer:BSOD while playing hardware intensive steam games

Hi timo,

Welcome to the 8forums.

The level 0 cache of the CPU is causing the problems.
What tests from Prime95 have you performed?

Please make sure your drivers are updated.
Please uninstall ASUS software.
Please make sure your BIOS is set at default settings.

Hey everybody,

I've been struggling with this issue for a while, I thought I resolved it a few months ago but it has come back and I'm out of ideas.

Ever since upgrading to Win10 at the start of last year I've started getting Clock Watchdog Timeout BSODs. After searching everywhere for a solution I gave up and went back to Win7 which continues to work without any problems. After a few months I discovered my Ethernet card was faulty and I replaced it, I was experiencing a couple of minor stability issues with my computer at the time but this resolved everything. So I thought I'd give Win10 another go on a new SSD. It worked perfectly with all my games working fine except Star Citizen which would get Clock Watchdog Timeouts after about 30min. This was fine by me as I could run it without BSODing on my Win7 HDD. Things have been running like this up until a couple of months ago when I installed BF1 (and it's summer here now so the heat might have something to do with it too). BF1 will now BSOD after about 30min as well as COH 2. The computer will also become more unstable on the boot after one of these BSODs with a BSOD while the computer is idling likely to occur within about an hour. I moved BF1 to the Win7 HDD and it runs mostly fine there, but if I change HDDs after a Win10 BSOD BF1 will cause a BSOD on Win7 but will run fine after that.

I've tried removing my old card reader and my old old sound card but it made no difference to the problem. I've also tried playing wit... Read more

I have a very serious issue with my brand new Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 GT 650M SLI system (specs at the bottom) . I can't play games at all because my system will lock up as soon as I enter the game, requiring a hard reset. My Windows Action Center is filled with Video Hardware Error reports. Is this because of a bad video card or is it a driver/software issue? I am on a clean install of Windows 8 Pro and have already tried the 314.22 WHQL and 320.00 BETA drivers. Nothing is overclocked.

Answer:Crash and video hardware error when playing games

Youre using the 314.22 now were you using the 314.07 previously? Ive read that a few people have had the same problem with the Idealpad and the 650 series graphics card. They resorted to the 310.90 drivers and said their problems are gone.. Wanna give that a shot?

Hello,        We just got a pile of new Lenovo X230 Thinkpads that all continuosly play the found new hardware/removed hardware sound every 30 seconds or so.  They only do it when they are in the docking station and if I remove the DVD/CD drive from it the problem goes away.  We can turn off the found new hardware sound in the control panel as a workaround, but I'd like to have an actual fix.  They are all running Windows 7 64bit.   Anyone have any ideas? Thanks,-Hal

Hi there, thanks for reading this. I was playing Dota 2 for a while, mid-game, when my game froze, there was a repetitive beeping sound, often occurs to me while watching youtube videos and playing other games, but I pass it off as some bug I'll never fix. I let the beeping continue (still frozen), when I got a BSOD with no stop code. It said I'd crashed due to a hardware error that was not fixable. I presume it's memory, my memory isn't particular expensive or reliable. If anyone could take a look at the minidump and let me know if it is memory, I'd be thankful. I've never received this error before, I still get the odd page fault in non-paged area. I think my hard drive might be dying, although I don't know how to test that.

In short, my suspicions are my memory or my hard drive. Thank you.

Hi,

I've had this problem for a long time and I did post a new thread about it a while back, but I think I didn't have enough information about it and it didnt go anywhere.

I've spent hours and hours trying to find what is causing this problem, without success.

So here's the problem:
Whenever I start a game like Fallout 3, or some other game that supports high quality textures, shaders, antialiasing etc. the game freezes; not instantly, but usually after couple of minutes.
It stays frozen for roughly 1 minute and after that it works again and the same thing happens again in under a minute.
Usually I get BSOD after third freeze and the error is most of the time KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR which, as far as I know, is caused by either faulty RAM or HDD.

The higher the video settings are, the faster the game freezes, so if I play the game in small window and all settings as low as possible, I might be able to play it. Still, it's not that my computer isn't powerful enough to run the game. The games run smooth enough with medium-high settings. It also isn't heat problem. Temperature is max 75?C while playing.

I NEVER get these freezes or BSODs when I'm doing something other than gaming.
Here are some games that it happens with: Fallout 3, Skyrim, EVE Online, Diablo III.

When the game freezes I hear my (most likely) HDD spin down and before it continues working, it starts spinning again.

Another notable thing is that it NEVER freezes when I'm playing any of... Read more

Hi,

I have been having a problem with my laptop for about 4-5 months now in this situation. When playing youtube videos with IE9, the laptop will randomly freeze up and the sound that comes out of the speakers is all robotic and buzzy, almost sounds satanic! It will last for a couple of minutes and then usually unfreeze and resume, but sometimes it will unfreeze and bluescreen and then go back and says video hardware error. Other times it just stays in this wierd frozen choppy state and I have to hard power off the computer. I've tried everything from updating drivers, virus scans, disk cleanup, defrags, etc, nothing helps.

Answer:Video Hardware Error when playing youtube videos

BCCode: 117 is a display driver issue and being that there are no dump files in your zip (sometimes that's normal) I would download this little tool called DriverView:

DriverView: Loaded Windows Drivers List

it's just a utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system, see what your display driver is and reinstall it after you have completely removed the other display drivers using the software you used to install them with, they usually have an uninstall option. If you have no luck after that I would venture to say that your video card integrated or not may be going bad...

Any one please help, i just recently had my xbox 360 stolen I ran it on a wireless network, I know the Mac address and whomever stole it used it and logged into my network which tells me they are near me. I suspect they changed the host name and may be using a new IP address since I know they have still been logging online based on my gamertag activity. is there any way to trace my mac address by scannig the local wireless networks? that way I can catch the *******s....PLEEEASE HELP.

Answer:Find hardware using MAC address

If they are logging onto your router, then no. If they log onto their own network, then you can ask one of the game servers to ask for the IP address that logs onto the servers and then you can give the info to the Police, which can get the information on the user from the IP address.

However I don't think the person will be too far from you as the wireless range won't be that far out.

I am getting ready to slick my NT system because I can not get any of my administrative tools to work. I don't know what else to do.

So what I want to do is reinstall NT but I do not have any of my system drivers(computer was given to me)

Is there a way I can find out what hardware I have in it?

Another quick question..my NT is a standalone not connected to a network..When I go into User Manager.. I get the error message "The network path was not found." "Do you want to select another domain to administer?"

What can I do?

Answer:{Resolved} - How can I find out what hardware I have?

Greetings

OK...

Are you logging onto the NT machine with an account that is in the local administrator's account?

From the sound of things, it seems like you have been given a computer that has NT SERVER on it, and was once on a network LAN.

Once you are logged into the machine with a local administrator's account, you need to access the control panel, and slowly go through the different icons to find what drivers have been installed for the different hardware components. In NT4, there is no one area for this, like in Win9x. You need to look in the Multimnedai applet for your sound card, the network applet for your network card, the display applet for your screen card, the modem applet for your modem, the printer applet for your printer...

As for the User manager for Domains question... Click on the YES button, and type in your Computer's name. That will connect you top the local User manager.

Cheers

I have never done It before I know you can over clock the videocard (mines a nvidia geforce8800gt) someone told me gateway made me unable to change my mother board so i think that takes the processor out but what about ram and the hard drive? I dont expect a step by step guide (id like one tho but I just want a link to a guide what makes it the hardest is I do not even know the name or brand of my ram or hard drive (I even looked on gateway and couldnt find it) device manager doesnt have it either. any other things that can be overclocked I would appreciate as well. The only thing I found a good amount of info on is cooling. Thank you for your time..

Answer:Where do I find a way to overclock my hardware?

Quote from: doc_holliday420 on August 24, 2008, 02:55:10 PM someone told me gateway made me unable to change my mother board so i think that takes the processor out but what about ram and the hard drive? If your BIOS doesn't allow you to set CPU parameters, it is doubtful that you can (or should) overclock the RAM. There is no overclocking for hard drives.Overclocking is science and art! You have a nice system based on your other topic - my advice is->don't screw with it! Perhaps you could benefit from another video card, see what advice you get. Best of luck!

did you get a Restore CD with the laptop
Dells often have a partition which you can restore from
Note sure but I think taping F10 on boot goes to that partiion,

One of the above should restore the PC to the factory settings with all drivers

Otherwise the drivers off the website should work

I have a T43 that was agonizingly slow. Being a nontechnical sort (compared to you) I reloaded XP Pro (SP2) from a newly purchased distribution. I downloaded the Broadcom driver using another machine, copied it to the newly rebuilt one, and installed the driver there. The operating system still says there is no internet hardware. Any suggestions?

Answer:Reloaded T43 with XP Pro, can't find hardware

Welcome to the forum! Downloading the driver is only the first step in the process. After the download is complete, the driver must be unpacked from C>Drivers>Win>Ethernet. Posting the 7-character model number of your T43 (either 26??-??? or 187?-???) would help us assist you better. Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi all, my pc has been having frequent freezes shortly after I start a game( Elder Scrolls Online, Sims 4, Civilization VI etc) My pc will first freeze then start to emit static noises before the screen turns black.
I then have to turn off my pc power supply and replug the hdmi cable connecting my monitor to my pc otherwise even if I restart my pc, the monitor doesnt turn back on.

When I then turn back on my pc, windows tells me that my pc suffered a video hardware error crash. This has been going on since 2 months ago and I have tried almost everything: cleaning the dust inside my pc, doing a clean install of nvidia drivers, using past stable nvidia drivers. They all only delayed the problem for slightly more or less than a week before my pc got the freeze crash again.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Attached the dumpfile created using dm log collector. Dump files are limited as my pc only just started generating them one to two weeks ago no idea why it didnt start generating dump files when it first started 2 months ago.

Dell
Windows Xp

So 2 days ago, i was having a problem with my computer, i would log in, and once my desktop came up, it would show for about 10 seconds, and then my icons and taskbar would dissapear. So i called dell, and they told me that most likely some spyware had leaked through and the best solution would be to reboot xp and start from scratch. So i go to do that and when the installation finished, i suddenly have no internet connection. I use a linksys router, and my laptop is connected to the router and gets a connection just fine.

So im guessing my problem is that when i go on my pc and go to the network connections screen, its empty. Wehn i try to set one up, i get the "Wizzard cannot find your network hardware" which is strange because before i re-installed, i had a working internet connection. If you have any tips, that doesnt require me talking to the useless folks at "dell-on-call" please help.

Be slow with me lol, im a beginner, i kno some basics, but if u tell me to do some crazy stuff, i will probably get lost =). So step by step please if u can help.

thanks

Does it have a "wired" network port? If so connect that to your cable-DSLmodem/router/network switch and run Windows update. That should find missing drivers.

This link will take you to Sony's site to get info:

my astranet ia101 scanner has a problem. i need to reinstall it to my pc, because of a hard drive crash and the techs had to wipe and reformat my drive, so i have to put everything back on it. i have reinstalled it before many times with no problem, but this time for some reason, my computer won't find the device driver for it now. i installed it with my disc that came with the scanner, and i also tried with a download from the umax website. when i restart my pc, windows recognizes that there is new hardware, but cannot find the driver. when i click on the vistascan icon, it tries to find it, but says, error, scanner access failed. everytime i run the windows add hardware wizard, it says cannot locate drivers for the scanner. the windows hardware wizard always asks me to put the windows 98 cd in, but the drivers aren't there. they are on the scanner cd and on my computer somewhere. after i installed the vistascan from the disc, it said successful install. the vista shuttle and the copy utility are fine- just the vista scan. how do i solve this? i have windows 98 on my pc.

Heya!

Just bought a new computer and put it together, after some failed starts etc the Asus P5K Deluxe tells me that it wants a bios recovery and starts searching in USB/CD/Floppy, so I decide to give it a go and shove in the Asus CD. It finds p5k.rom (or similar) and starts programming it says, after that it reboots and now I just cannot get past the AMIBIOS logo where it's supposed to find the hardware.

It gets stuck, but if i leave it for a while it draws huge black lines all over the screen with itty pieces of text in it, like the sata name and 800 and 1024 etc, the only thing that it finds fully is the CPU, which is a Intel Core 2 Quadro 2,4.

I have tried resetting bios and everything, but seeing as how I can't even get into the friggin bios it's quite hopeless this .. I really want my new comp to start Please help!

Here is the rundown:

In mIRC/MSN/YAHOO/AIM I get disconnected randomly. I may be in a middle of a conversation in MSN and it will boot me out. In mIRC I may get BLOCKS of information (like 5 minutes worth) in approximatley 2 seconds, or just get disconnected.

I also cannot download anything above 20mb. It will stop at 5mb, 1.9mb, 18.5mb (totally random).

I currently have Comcast HSI. I run a Motorola Surfboard 5100 cable modem, plugged into a Linksys BEFSR41. Both cable modem and router are BRAND NEW.

Silly as it may seem, this is the 3rd router. We had a BEFSR41 before, but it would "die" on us, about once every other day, until we unplugged it, and replugged it in. Before this, we had a netgear router, which worked flawlessly, BUT COULDNT send e-mail. (Strangest thing, could GET e-mail, but couldn't SEND e-mail. EVEN THOUGH THEY BOTH USE THE SAME MAIL SERVER. I could even telnet and ping the outgoing mail server. Tried in outlook, firefox, mozilla suite, etc. E-mail keeps me in business, so I switched to that BEFSR41.

So it seems I just cannot get it right. I just purchased a Cisco uBR904 router, but I cannot get it configured correctly to do what I would like, so will probably be putting it up for sale.

Now, the Motorola surfboard 5100 is about 1 month old. The "new" BEFSR41 is 1 month old. Obviously this combination is not working. I DO NOT CARE HOW MUCH IT COSTS, I want a router that will work flawlessly with SB51... Read more

Answer:I honestly cannot find good hardware

Have you just tried running just the 5100 directly into your computer? That way it will be easy to tell if your really dealing with router issues or if its not something else, such as cable modem, service itself or computer configuration.

Greetings.

I have a computer with integrated video. It appears the drivers are the wrong ones. Although it works, it doesn't work well. The refresh rate is pretty slow.. but it use to be fast before the user 'upgraded' the drivers. Roll back not possible. The problem here is that I have no idea what drivers to get. I went to the motherboard manufacturer with no luck. That is to say I downloaded their video drivers (with a setup.exe) and ran it but it told me I couldn't install the drivers. No reason given.

Maybe this is bigger than not knowing what drives the video on this system. I am open to ideas.

The motherboard is a KM400-M2 v1.0b which appears to be a ECS board.

any ideas? please be specific. I'm a little new to this.

Answer:Is there a way to find out what video hardware is in the system?

Did you try the drivers at this site? They list it as a sound driver.

Hey there, firstly i'd like to say i really respect what you guys do helping all the clueless peeps like me, i've had various problems before and have solved them all through searching help threads here.

Recently my system had been playing up, random restarts, long boots, incredibly slugish and i was recommended to do a reformat of windows xp. Which i went ahead and did no problem. Now with the fresh system i am unable to make any connection to the internet.

When i go into the network setup wizard it says "The wizard cannot find your network hardware".

I use a router with a ethernet cable.
The cable is fine.
I've read around and hear i may need to install network drivers. Which i dont have a disk for.
I have no idea where to locate these drivers or what i need to download specificly
My motherboard is a "ECS 945G-M3 V3.0 Socket 775 Core 2 Duo Ready FSB1066 DDR2 Onboard Audio mATX"

Any assistance you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

I really have little knowledge of what i should be doing.

Thanks - A tired Josh.

Answer:Wizard cannot find your network hardware

Go to "system then hardware the device manager" if it does not shop there then go tot add & remove hardware, let the system try to find it. If the system does not find it try to go back and select it from the list, take your time it is not as hard as it may seem. Another point!!! You may need a driver, many drivers are available on the net from the maker, you will need the make/model number.
Added note if you find the net card in the device manager but with a yellow asterisk, right click a panel will open click on driver and try the update feature the driver may be on your windows disk!

I have Windows XP Media Center Edition on a Dell E521. Just recently, within this past week, I have connected my USB SanDisk ImageMate SDDR-05 Flashcard reader to my computer in order to transfer picture files from my camera to the computer via a flashcard. While doing the initial setup the Wizard Install box instructs me through all the necessary steps, but it finally states that: ?the hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software.? I?ve attempted this procedure several times but always with the same result...I still can?t find the device anywhere on my computer, not even within the My Computer icon. On the device manager the SanDisk hardware appears (identified as USB CFII), but as a yellow question mark upon which I always end up uninstalling/removing it. I called SanDisk tech help and they said that their Flashcard Reader already has its driver pre-installed within every XP system...and that is why their website does not offer any ImageMate SDDR-05 driver downloads for XP. I have even tried changing to the other computer USB ports including one which my printer already works without any problems...but I still get the same none result. This hardware did work, without any issues, with my older Dell which had a Windows 98 OS. The SanDisk tech suggested I contact Microsoft... Any suggestions on what I could/should do to remedy this? Please help!!!!
Thanks

Note: The printer's scanner worked fine on my cousin's netbook so I don't think its defective.

I recently bought a new printer which is also supposed to be able fax and scan. The printer works fine, but I am not able to scan. During installation there was an error ("Your new hardware might not work properly"). I opened up Device Manager and there you go, a yellow exclamation mark ! next to Lexmark 2600 under images and devices.
To fix the problem, I tried to update the driver from the installation disc. But it showed me the message "Wizard could not find a better match for you hardware than the one it already has"
I went to the Lexmark website and downloaded and installed the updates, followed the troubleshooter, and even chatted for an hour with a support operator. The instructions he gave me were the same thing I was already doing; try updating from the cd and the downloaded package from the site, install, uninstall, reinstall, try different usb port... but i got the same disappointing result; Wizard cant find a better match.

04:48:58 PM [Marco] I see. I apologize. That is correct. However, to be honest, I am not certain why XP is not allowing you to update using the downloaded package and the CD.
05:02:27 PM [Marco] I see. I apologize we have perform the necessary steps to have the printer updated, however the issue persists. There may be a software or Operating system policy blocking or not allowing the update.

I bought my Yoga 720-15IKB slightly used on eBay and did a clean install of Win10 immediately after receiving it. During this process, I noticed the recovery partition was empty, so I decided to format the entire drive and delete the recovery partition. After getting back into Windows, I noticed the usual methods of installing Nvidia display drivers weren't working, so I opened Device Manager and can't even find the Nvidia device in there under the generic "Microsoft Basic Display" name.I'm really worried the previous owner somehow fried the card. Does anyone have any ideas of how to get it working? EDIT: This is the first driver I've tried to install. Would installing the other drivers somehow make this device appear?

Here's the setup:
Recently purchased an EMachines M6805 laptop (A64 3000+). Laptop comes with built in 802.11b/g lan in the form of a Broadcom 54g MaxPerformance wireless card.

After fiddling with it for 10 minutes, wireless worked out of the box. It came with Windows XP EMachines Version pre-installed with all the drivers. Now, of course I'm too stupid to settle for this, so I reformatted two days later and put XP Pro on here. It was lightning fast after that. Problem was, it had none of the drivers on here, so I chickened out and put my other copy of normal Windows XP Home on here. I found the drivers this time and installed them from a restore CD, and wireless worked and so did wired. So far so good.

The problem arose in that Win XP Home didn't accept the emachines cd-key cause it was for a specific version, and i wanted to use my legal home copies, because they don't have all the bloatware the Emachines one does. So I stupidly resorted to killing the WPA (windows product activation) process with a crack. I'm pretty sure I can narrow that down to when it stopped working, though I can't be sure because I fell asleep with my pc on in my bed, and woke up 4 hours later with it sitting next to me. This is around the last time it worked, but I was tired, so don't clearly recollect.

I then got frustrated and reinstalled XP Pro one more time, and it still didn't work even with the drivers. Now I've put the original EMachines copy of ... Read more

Any advice would be appreciated.

Go to Toshiba Support, click on the Download tab and enter your system details. Download and install the chipset drivers and then the remaining items should be recognised. You can then download and install the other missing drivers if Windows does not install them automatically.

Hey all,
Just wanted to know what software you use after a fresh install of windows to view the hardware specs. I have this laptop that has a fresh format, yet no drivers installed. I'd rather not open it up to find out what drivers I'd be needing.

The laptop is a Toshiba M45, and I have the driver page, there are just a few driver options for different configurations. So I need a piece of software that can tell what the exact hardware I have.

Thanks

While I am on the computer, I heard an alert sound to inform some driver download is available for a hardware of my computer.

I do not want Broadcom Cooperation Driver update for Broadcom Bluetooth 3.0 USN, as I during clean install of my OS had this got installed automatically and made my wireless keyboard non-functional.

I do not want this to happen again.
I would appreciate if anyone could help me with the identity of this purported driver for my computer hardware?

Hallo, I tried installing drivers from kxproject (3550) for my soundblaster 0060. Sound was working, and everything seemed fine, but it's either I'm unsure of how to setup the 'recording mixer' so that I can use my microphone, or it wasn't working? So I got rid of those drivers, and went with an older version of the drivers to see if that would help. ( 3548 )

Now, not only is nothing working for my soundcard after that, but it refuses to uninstall with both the default uninstaller ( which I tried first ) as well as the device manager. An odd woodpecker/repeating sound can be heard. If you click uninstall in the device manager on the different sound card parts, the sound card comes back & reappears. The odd noise is not stopped while doing this. I found that by clicking on the properties of the sound card, I was able to see that it used 'audio endpoint'.

I then went into system32, and deleted the 'audio endpoint' .inf files. Now that I've deleted one of the .inf files, it's now falling back onto a different .inf file it seems, and I have no clue as to what the name of this one is, as it isn't the same name as what it's now being given as ( generic software device. )

The soundcard used to be under 'audio inputs & outputs' but now is under 'software devices' in control panel.

What can I do to make this work on my system? Does anyone know how to locate the exact .inf files that the hardware is using so that I can delete them? Does anyone know how to setup the soundca... Read more

Answer:How to find .inf of your hardware? Soundcard issue

Unfortunately, you have made a mess where it will be literally impossible to install any driver for it now.

Suggest to run sfc /scannow from elevated command prompt to fix it and if not, clean install Windows.

(Another option is to copy what you deleted from an EXACT same Windows install from another machine and the replace it. Same build, same architecture, if you have one.)

Do not ever delete .inf files unless instructed to do so by someone with intricate knowledge. What you deleted is necessary for Windows. Anyone that knows better will never suggest to delete .inf files, unless in extreme rare cases, where it is impossible to install a driver otherwise. And never under any circumstance should a Windows .inf file be deleted.

I of course could just build one from scratch, but this is a recommendation for a friend for his business and they have to have a vendor-bought system. Now, I realize this could turn into a whole lot of "I like Dell" and "I like HP" posts, so I'm going to clarify. I'm looking for a few good resources (websites) that review/compare pre-built Server systems. An example would be http://www.linuxjournal.com/article.php?sid=6883. READY GO.

Answer:Where can I find some server hardware reviews?

Good question, my anwser is that there are very few sites that do this.

There were a few apps about at one point which you could load up in Windows and they would give you a breakdown of the inner-workings of your PC, i.e. what processor, RAM, HD etc etc...

I've long since forgotten what the app was called and want to get some RAM to upgrade a friend's laptop... I do recall it going from a totally free app to one which required registration for the more advanced features...

Anybody able to help out?
Many thanks

Hey there,

I use Norton Ghost to back up the contents of my master hard drive. The secondary hard drive(the one I back up my files to) I place in a Mobile Rack which I slide into my computer before I back up and slide out and put away when not backing up.

All this worked fine for MONTHS. I was able to back up my master hard drive to my secondary hard drive... But all of a sudden I'm having problems...

Last week I opened norton ghost but it said that it could only detect my master hard drive, not my secondary hard drive... So I logged onto windows xp and went into the Add Hardware section to see if I could detect the secondary hard drive. It found it fine and I was able to back up my master hard drive to the secondary hard drive...

This week the same thing happened however when I went into Add hardware, it won't pick up the secondary hard drive... I've also tried uninstalling the Secondary IDE Channel and SIS PCI IDE Controller but it didn't end up picking the secondary hard drive up... I've tried this and restarted my computer seceral times...

Sometimes the yellow light (the light that fashes when the hard drive is loading/thinking) appears on the secondary hard drive so I guess it is getting power to it.

Any ideas why it is not finding the secondary hard drive?
Is the secondary hard drive faulty? It's fairly new (6 months).

I have a external USB DVD drive (plug and play) that I'm trying to hook up. I am getting this error.....windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device (code 41). I looked in the device manager and it has a yellow exclamation mark next to my device. I tried to update the driver(didn't work), I scanned for hardware(didn't work), I uninstalled it(didn't work), I tried the add hardware wizard(didn't work) and I followed some threads from Majorgeeks to delete the "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters". When I try to delete the UpperFilters and/or LowerFilters, It does not show me that option. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
There is no listing for Upper or LowerFilters to delete! I have an older computer which is a Dell Dimension 8200 Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 SP3. If anyone could me with this issue, that would be great! Thank you for your time! I hope I gave you enough info!

Thanks for the HELP!

Ladies and gentlemen, I've come with hopes that one of you can help me before money needs to be involved. I own an HP Pavilion p7-1017cb home desktop, with the following specs:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2100 CPU @ 3.10GHz
Motherboard: Pegatron Corp. 2AC2
HDD: 1TB SATA generic hard disk drive
PSU: 250 Watt generic
Optical Drive: SuperMulti DVD Burner

Just tonight, I installed these components:

I followed the installation instructions and the computer booted without a hitch. I did not overclock the GPU other than what the factory did. About 10 minutes into playing STALKER: Clear Sky, the computer screen turned off, followed by an awful sound from the speakers, before rebooting. Then I see this error description upon logging on:

Hi,

These are the system spec for my Alienware M15x, just to check
-Windows 7 x64 Home Premium (Preinstalled, but has been reinstalled around 8 months ago). The hardware is around 2 years old now
-nVidia GeForce GTX 260M
-Intel i7 Q 740 1.73 GHz Octacore
-4.00 GB RAM

The issue I have is that whenever I start a game, such as Unreal Tournament 3 or Tribes: Ascend the game launches fine, however 5-10 minutes into a game, the display crashes and freezes. This happens almost 100% of the time, on other occasions I can play the game peacefully but this is very rare.
From time to time, the computer gets a BSOD, and I have attatched the dump files to this post.

I have checked and now am certain that I have the latest graphics driver for my graphics card, and I have also recently installed the latest version of Microsoft Visual C++ and Framework 4.0

The question I have regarding this issue is:
1. What kind of issue am I having?
2. What is causing the issue to begin with?
3. Whether or not there a way to fix this issue, and if so how?

I would really appreciate your help, I hope that somebody could help me out with this as quick as possible!
Thank you for your assitance in advance

PC with Windows ME. When instaling new hardware, system searches for drivers and frequently fails to find them, apparently because it is looking in the directory. For example, I was installing a USB linked magnetic card reader and the following message appeared in a window headed 'New Hardware Found'."File USBNTMAP.SYS was not foundWindows needs the disk labelled Windows Millenium Edition to continue. This disk may be provided by your computer or device manufacturer.Copy files from C:|Program files\Creative\....."If I then use the browse button to point the system at C:\Windows\system32\driversit sometimes works, and anyway the files it is looking for are invariably some within the Windows directory. Is there any way I can get the system to look in the right place automatically in stead of looking in the Creative soundblaster directory for a standard Windows ME driver??!!??Any help will be gratefully received.MJ

Answer:New hardware instal fails to find drivers

sorry i dont know why its not working.i would download them from the manufacturers website that way you will get the latest version of the driver.the ones on the disc will be out of date.

So, my computer suddenly started finding a handful of devices it can't find drivers for. I didn't add any new hardware. After trying all I could think of I resorted to trying a clean install. Sadly that did not help.

Can someone advise me on where to begin to diagnose this problem? Obviously I'm not very experienced with this.

I'm sure you'll need more information to truly help with this, but I'm not sure what to provide or how to obtain it.

Answer:No new hardware, can't find drivers even after clean install

Please provide more information. What do you mean your system is finding devices for which it can't find drivers? Please explain IN DETAIL.

Also, after the clean install did you download and install the chipset driver followed by all other appropriate drivers? Look in device manager - any yellow or red symbols?

I have 2 desktop computers at home (both Dell, Windows XP), and they WERE networking just fine. I reformatted the second one (went perfectly), but when I tried to reconnect the network, I got a message saying it couldn't find the network hardware. ?! I used the original CDs that came with the computer. I see that under "device drivers" there are some yellow question marks next to some items--I'm guessing there shouldn't be. But I don't know what those items are, and why they wouldn't be on the original disks. Can anyone clue me in? Thanks.

Answer:Solved: Computer can't find network hardware

Go to Dell's website and download the correct device drivers for your specific machine. I would burn them on CD for later use also. But most likely that is the cause of your problem.

After reformatting my friends computer (yes, I have done this before) we have a couple of problems that I have never dealt with before. Ist of all, we have only 2 or 16 colors available (windows 98) and even worse, we have no modem detected. We took the modem out and put it back in , rebooted, hoping that it would be detected. It wasnt. There is NO information about this modem on it or in the spec sheet for the pc. So, we have no clue about drivers, where to get them, manufacturer etc. Where do we begin?
Any help you can give will keep us busy enough to maintain our sanity ;-) since I have to come all the way home, get ideas , go back and try them at her house-this is turning out to be quite the chore. I appreciate your help ALOT

It can't be done using software because of the lack of sensors (on your hardware) that can be used to monitor the current supplied to each piece of hardware.

The web is full of sites on how to find the serial number of your computer but not all serial numbers of hardware belonging to it.
I also found 'Hardware ID Extractor.exe' which is extremely limited and both Belarc Advisor and Speccy do not provide such info.
I was wondering if there is such info. Obviously this assumes the info is attached/embedded somehow on the hardware itself which may not be the case.
I have recently purchased an audio card. In wanting to register it the serial number on the box has a sticker with another number on it. I called Asus and asked them which of the 2 it may be. They said to not trust the sticker on the box and to look at the actual card. Makes sense to me except the card is already in my PC and every time I open it, it is hell--too much stuff in there and a slight movement of some wire or other creates havoc. Hence me asking this question.
Thank you

That is a high ping. But is the ping test inside the game? Please explain. A ping test from the command line tells nothing about the GPU performance. Or even the game. So I sues you mean the game is reporting long ping.Did you say you do not have the issue with another PC?  If so, that implicates the motherboard, especially the south bridge, which is not replaceable. one of my computer just suddenly died yesterday and i am trying to figure out what the problem is
My XP has totally died, it just give me the blue screen saying there is a problem and might be virus and ask me to scandisk. But I can't do that as it just stuck at the blue screen unless i reboot

when i boot the computer, it says "Detecting primary master drive: WD....., Detecting primary slave drive:WD........, Detecting CD drive:....."
Usually when it is normal, it doesn't have the word detecting to go with it. After detecting for a few seconds, it would say "Primary slave drive fail" even if the drive is found above. Sometimes same thing would happen with the master drive.
This is very weird, i thought its a virus problem and i am trying to scan the comp from my 98 (C drive). If the master drive fail, then i won't be able to access 98. If works sometimes and if it doesn't, i just boot until it works (the drive is detected).

I am not sure if its a virus problem and hardware problem. It seems like the comp has trouble detecting the harddrives for some reason.
Can anyone help? Thanks

Answer:Can't find Harddrives? (Virus or hardware problem?)

btw, i have already formatted my D drive (XP drive) cuz i thought it was the virus.. but it still acting the same way. So maybe hardware problem?

Hi,

I have had my PC for about 3 years and both the CD-R and CD-RW have worked fine. Last week both drives disappeared from My Computer. When I go into Device Manager they are both visible but have an exclamation mark against them in a yellow background. Under properties I get this message 'Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)'

They both still have power and I have checked the internal connections. I am running Windows XP.

Can anyone suggest what I try next?

Cheers,

Hello folksHave recently formatted and re-installed XP, all gone smoothly with no obvious issues, have spent tha last few days updating service packs, and re-installing my favourite programs and data, again, no obvious issues. I'm using the pc now, so obviously no internet connection issues either. However, I've just got around to setting up my home network again, and I'm struggling. The network wizard will not run and tells me it cannot find my network hardware, I had no issue running this with Vista (Which I've sacked). has anyone any ideas?I have msi p6n sli v2 mobo, and I've run the driver disc for this three times now to see if it would help, I've checked that the network card is enabled in device manager, can't see anything wrong.Any ideas folks?

Answer:Network connection issue, pc cannot find hardware.

The more I Google, the more worried I'm getting. The only fix I've found to this, is to reformat and re-install XP. I've spent days getting everything back together and would really want to avoid that if at all possible.

Dear Administrators,

I am facing a peculiar problem. A couple of days ago, I was listening to some old youtube playlists on my Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop that I had created long back. Suddenly, the screen went blue and displayed the message - fatal hardware error; contact manufacturer. It did not allow me to do anything else.

Luckily, I forced a re-boot and was able to view my desktop again. But, I am really scared after this experience. My hunch is that there might be some viruses or malwares that might be the source of such problems. Or it could be that I have some fixable problem in playing media files on a continuous basis.

I would like you to advise me to get my machine checked for probable causes of such messages. I want to follow your recommended steps.

Thanks,
Zooroopa

Answer:Blue Screen indicating fatal hardware error on playing youtube videos

Hello, Zooroopa.

It's more likely this is/was a hardware issue or a possible driver conflict which has already been resolved, but for malware removal assistance, which is what this forum is for, we would need to see analysis logs as indicated in the sticky topic at the top of this forum.

Please follow our pre-posting process outlined here:

NEW INSTRUCTIONS - Read This Before Posting For Malware Removal Help

After running through all the steps, please post the requested logs.

If you have trouble with one of the steps, simply move on to the next one, and make note of it in your reply.

Please note that the forum is very busy and if I don't hear from you within three days this thread will be closed.

Within the last few months my computer has been having cpu spikes to close to 100% when I play games. Generally this happens within three minutes of booting up the game. I've tried multiple fixes including some I've read in other threads on this site but so far I haven't had any luck. It's an hp dv7-2270us (a little over a year old)Processor is an intel Core 2 Quad CPU 9000 @ 2 Ghz. I have 4 gigs of ram.

Just a few things out of the way

Graphical intensity of the game is irrelvant. It happens to World of Warcraft, it happens to Team Fortress 2, it happens to Portal 2, Magicka. Windowed mode does not alter the problem at all. Runnig in window mode and adjusting video settings do not help. It also will occasionally happen while watching Hulu but this is rare. It will happen when using Adobe Premiere CS5 on occassion (probably two or three times every hour).

When runnign through taskmanager I see nothing out of the ordinary taking up CPU. The only noteworthy thing I spot is that when teh spike occurs is that the game itself suddenly increase it's cpu use by about 50-75% (i.e. it's running at 25% and then suddenly jumps to 40% or therabouts) - surpassing the CPU listing for System Idle Process.

Edit: Forgot to mention - I have run OneLiveCare and Norton security - both of wihch have turned up nothing in virus or malware.
Edit 2: Forgot to also mention - I've tried updating drivers, divx, checked windows update, rolled back drivers, unin... Read more
