I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: to beep or not to beep(that is the question)

Hi SLAYER. Although I've read that some motherboards don't have a POST beep, I personally haven't come across one. The most likely cause of no beep is that there isn't a connection between the case speaker and the motherboard. Possible causes that immediately come to mind are broken wire or the speaker connector doesn't match the motherboard header pins - possible one is wired for 3 pins and the other for 2 pins. If the motherboard connection is correct, remove the socket from the header and touch a 1.5V battery to the connector. You should get a distinct clicking from the speaker.

Hi,
My laptop here is a Dell Inspiron 15, 3000 series.
The laptop itself works perfectly fine, I am able to get into windows (which I installed myself, it originally came with Ubuntu).
Occasionally though, it will do a BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE (repeats).
This happens on boot and sometimes when I am using it. Sometimes it turns off suddenly when I am shifting the computer around. It's extremely loud.

What is causing this? The sound seems to be coming from around the area the Memory banks are under the laptop, but nothing seems to suggest that anything is wrong.
I took a suggestion and used FN+Power to do Hardware Diagnostics which said nothing is wrong.

What else can I try?

Thanks!

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15 - 3000 series - Beep Beep Beep Pause Beep Beep Beep

Hi,
I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check if the beep pattern repeats.

Switch off the computer.
Disconnect the AC adapter from the system.
Remove the battery from the computer.
Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
Then connect back all the peripherals and check if the beep pattern repeats and reply us with the beep count.

If you still receive 3 Beeps on the system then it indicates System board failure.. You will have to replace it on the laptop.
Please let me know the findings.

Answer:RE: Dell Inspiron 15 - 3000 series - Beep Beep Beep Pause Beep Beep Beep

Hi Ganny,
What are the exact # of beeps in a cycle?
Kindly review this chart and see page# 47 - it will help isolate the source of the issue.
Based on the exact # of beeps, that part would need to be replaced.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

I understand that this means there is a system board error.  I have a very good reason to believe that the BIOS had an issue (when I checked it before this happened, it had 75 boot options listed and said the volitale memory was almost full). Question: can I somehow force the BIOS to reset itself?  Is there a pin short I can use for this? Of course I am 2 weeks out of warranty :/  I assume if I sent it in they would just charge for a boarsd swap... likely $500-$600 dollars. Thanks for any help!

Answer:X230 1 beep, 3 beep, 3 beep, 1 beep, no screen: can I reset the BIOS?

1-3-3-1 means no memory. If you have 2 DIMMs, try with just one, then just the other. When you try with just one DIMM, it needs to go into slot-0. When you have the machine sitting lid-down and the battery compartment away from you, slot-0 is the one on the right.

My X230 gets very little use since I bought it in 2012... sometimes no use at all for weeks at a time. Yet the system board failed, as did a replacement, and now the third board seems to have failed. On startup I get 1 beep, 3 beep, 3 beep, 1 beep and a blank screen. I tried the existing RAM stick in both slots: no startI bought and tried a NEW stick of RAM from Crucial in both slots: no startI tried both sticks in the slots at the same time: no start Other than another bad system board, what could it be? Where can I get a system board that might last? By the way, at the same time I bought the X230 I also bought a T530 that gets gallons of heavy use almost every day and never had a problem that I didn't cause myself.

Hi, I have been using the Y480 for almost 2 years. However, when I boot up this morning, it just beep beep beep continously. and the screen just have a cursor blinking. But after I reboot again and press F2 to enter bios, and then quit bios settings, the notebook can be boot up successfully. I have backup everything I need What should I do to fix the error? Is my harddisk gonna be failed? I have lost all the purchase receipts but I have registered 2 years ago. Thanks!Peter

Answer:Y480 continous beep beep beep during startup

Beeps are error messages from the Motherboard. Either the MOBO is failing or you have a problem with your RAM, I dont think it is related to your HDD, but you should create a backup. Also, if you don't have, please create recovery disks immediately. You may want to do more research depending on the BIOS manufacturer and the beep codes. You can google these terms and you should find information on the procedure to validate this. You can also try to re-seat the RAM, maybe it got a bit unsettled, if you moved the laptop. All in all, if you took the externded warranty and you are still under it, you may want to send the laptop to Lenovo for repairs.

I have two printers connected to a Dell E520 through Vista. They are a Brother 5440CN and a HP 6110xi. The .Brother works ok but I can't say the same for the HP. Clicking any button on the HP gives the same response. Beep, beep, beep. I have recently moved the system to a new location just a couple of feet from where it was. Before the move Brother would scan and copy and the HP would do the same, but now as noted I can't get any response out of it but beep, beep, beep

Anybody have any ideas??.

i shut it down properly upon finding that my C key was on the fritz. a couple of months ago, my E key had been doing the same (randomly not working and randomly typing e consistently). once i rebooted, i got the message "Operating System (OS) Not Found".

i let my computer rest for a while and turned it back on. i currently get the toshiba startup, but around when it's suppose to load the os, it beeps continuously at the loudest volume with a contantly blinking underscore in white font on a black background.

i believe this may have happened once before, but i have no clue what i did to fix it.

I have ThinkPad T500, 2241, CTO. Every time laptop boots, there is an annoying beep. It is not a beep sound that one might have when power status changes. Beep is off both in Power Manager and turned off in BIOS section of power management. Moreover, in device manager in non-plug and play list i disabled the BEEP. Still this annoying sound is there. BIOS is updated. However, there is no other section in BIOS where I can turn off the beep. Please help!Message Edited by Gordik on 03-22-2009 09:31 PM

Look through the bios again, there is a separate entry for beeps afaik. Did you look in the section where you can also set power mode beeps, keyboard beeps etc? I think its there, not 100% sure though.

any ideas?

Answer:Compaq bios freeze short beep long beep

Is the beep pattern just one short one long? Check your manual for the POST beep codes to determine what it is telling you. All POST beep codes are different so there's no way to tell unless we know exact model of your PC. The manual usually has the beep code in it, though.

Looks like no booting process is going on i checked with external monitor but no display on external monitor also.CPU fan is working for few seconds and stoped then a long beep and 2 short beep . when i am trying to stop the machine with poweroff button again one beep before poweroff. Pls sugguest me wht to do the next and what is the real problem . Moderator edit: Masked serial.

Answer:CPU fan is working for few seconds and stoped then a long beep and 2 short beep

Hello, Your reported T61 bios beep codes would indicate you have one of the following failures: System boardLCD assemblyDIMMThe DIMMS would be my first choice to test so, if you have more than one DIMM installed, try  try removing one of them and try to boot, if OK, you have removed the bad RAM; however, if the results are the same, remove the other DIMM and install the one you removed previously. If you can boot OK now, you have isolated the bad RAM. Now, if you can't boot with either stick, then, I guess the RAM is not the problem (unless you have two bad sticks and I doubt that). See the  Memory Removal and Installation Guide for more information. Good luck!

A few times now my E5440 will give a low beep... then a few seconds go by, and another beep.  It just happened a minute ago - only two beeps this time.  But I think it happened a few days ago and beeped several times with the same pause of a few/several seconds in between the beeps.  It's so quiet that before I've thought I was imagining it.  But this time I was sitting in front of it typing.
There are no pop-up notifications on the screen anything is wrong, such as the 'disconnection' sound when you remove a portable HDD, or your Wi-Fi disconnects.  Nothing to indicate what the beeps mean.  The laptop is working perfectly.  Battery is fully charged.  I can hear the fan turning and changing speed but it's 2:30am here with no outside noise and I can barely hear the fan.  (I assume it would be spinning up like crazy if something were overheating.)
I'm at a loss what it means.  Does anyone know?
I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit if that matters.

But well just after these beep my pc is booting well ! and video card working well too, i've no problem playing games.

The strange thing also is that it's making these beep like 1 time every 2 or 3 days as i shut down my pc every night and when i'm going to work.

Do you have an idea of what i can do ??

Answer:Beep beep from Qosmio X770 speakers

To be honest I?ve never heard about such issue and really don't know why this happen but if this issue happens from the first day I think you should contact your local dealer or nearest Toshiba service provider directly and ask for help.

Generally speaking preinstalled recovery image and all installed drivers are tested so I cannot imagine it is some software related issue. Contact service and ask for help. Hey should check this and fix it. valid warranty will cover all costs.

I tried installing an MSI Radeon HD 6450 2GB Pci express x16 video card. Once hooked up, I boot up and computer beeps, from what I can tell 1 or 2 long beeps, 8 short beeps. I was running built in 128m video so I disabled that in the Bios, but that didn't do it.

I noticed the Video card manuf. recommends minimum 400W PS, my rig only has a 300W PS. Would that really affect my upgrade or am I barking up the wrong tree. I don't want to fork over for a new PS unless it' warented. Thanks a bunch.

Answer:2G Graphics card upgrade...Beep! beep!

It's possible you need a new PSU.

The TDP on that card is only 27 Watts and it doesn't require a hook up so I would think your current PSU could maybe support but I wouldn't risk it. There is also the possibility that the motherboard you have isn't providing enough power to the card.

You could try to re-seat the card or clean out the PCI express slot and see if that helps.

My computer has been making this noise for quite some time now. but it would only happen once every few days so it didn't really concern me until now because its happening non stop. The noise is definitely coming from system sounds. I'm not sure if this is related but under device manager there is an unknown device which i cannot account for as i put the computer together and I'm staring in to the case rite now. there is also a yellow icon by teredo tunneling pseudo-interface (i have no idea what that is)lately my computer just seems to be working really hard when idling. the cpu is constantly spiking up to 100% usage and my hard drives seem to constantly be spinning. specscpu: intel core 2 duomobo: abit ab9ram: 1gb ddr2gfx: geforce 9800 gtx+hd: 2 seagate internal drives (1 with os) the other blank for storage. Hi,

I am trying to help with a Dell Inspiron 5100.
The computer was running very slow and I've made a bit of progress resolving that. I think it needs some more RAM and I'm not sure if that could be at all related to the following.
The problem now is that after running for few hours, then shutting down, then trying to turn back on:
1. light comes on indicating computer is on
2. the computer makes 2 beeps
3. wait...black screen
4. wait...black screen
5. and so on

This does not happen everytime trying to start the computer so I'm really at a loss. I've read about overheating in this model which would seem to make sense but sometimes this will happen after the computer has been off for a day or so.

At a complete loss now.

Any assistance much appreciated!

Hi, Today I replaced my old graphics card with a new GeForce 9500GT and also added a new Kingston 2GB Ram Card. I installed both of them then restarted the computer, since then it has only powered on and playing 1 short beep then 1 long beep. I've tryed everything I can think of ranging from taking out everything new and putting it back to before I added the new items to completely taking out all 3 RAM sticks and reseating them. I'm not sure how a brand new unopened 2GB ram stick that fit perfectly and a brand new right out of the box graphics card can cause a problem like this. I've been through the ins and outs of the internet trying to find a solution but nothing has worked. Hoping someone can think of a unique way to fix this or how it could have possibly happened in the first place. I dont buy anything used everything placed inside my computer was/is brand new when it was purchased. Any help/comments on solutions would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Is it possible you are hearing 1 long - one short?
That might indicate a BIOS CHECKSUM error, depending on the brand of BIOS.

You can try a ClearCMOS procedure (CLRTC is the same thing):
Note all your current BIOS settings
Shut down the computer > remove the power cord.
Remove the 3v motherboard battery.
Move the CLRTC jumper from pins 1-2 to 2-3.
Touch a metal part of the case and Press and Hold the reset button for approx. 30 seconds to discharge all power from the board.
Put the CLRTC jumper back on pins 1-2.
Replace the 3v battery > replace the power cord > boot.
Immediately go back into BIOS and reset all your preferred settings. If the CLRTC worked you will need to reset the date and time.

Good afternoon,I'm having trouble with my windows vista computer.  When I start it up, nothing appears and there is a beep noise.  It goes beep beep then there is a 3 second pause then another beep beep.  I don't know how to fix this and any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Answer:Windows Vista Beep Beep

These "Beep codes", as they're called, are to notify you that the Power On Self Test, or POST, has failed. The number and sequence of beeps is generally to identify which component failed, but without knowing the manufacturer, specifically the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System), it would be difficult to determine what the beep code is identifying as the problem component. For a successful Power On Self Test to take place, the following components must be working:BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) CPU (Central processing Unit) or processorPSU (Power Supply Unit) Video Output device (Graphics card)RAM (Random Access Memory)If any of these fail, your computer will not power on properly, and may exhibit symptoms like what you are describing. Generally, the first step in fixing a computer that refuses to start up is to isolate components that may be causing the problem. One thing to try would be to clean the internals of your computer (Warning: be sure power is turned off to your computer before working on internals!) and to reseat components like RAM, peripheral cards (such as your graphics card), etc.. If you do not feel comfortable doing this, you may think of taking the computer in to a reputable shop- most places that are reputable would not charge or would charge very little to clean and reseat a couple components. Chances are that the problem component is either RAM or Graphics card, these components tend to fail or require service faster than others, and may als... Read more

I turned my wife's computer on and the screen didn't even flicker and all it does is beep at me.
I tried removing on componant at a time and started it after every removal.
Still beeps at me.
Until I got to the CPU. It stopped beeping at me. Of course, every other piece was out of the puter, so I'm not sure if its supposed to stop beeping or if thats the problem.
Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hello,

Windows XP, Service Pac 3

I just had a "search engine redirect issue" fixed by "Gringo." One thing that is different now is at windows start-up, this laptop makes a BEEP TIC (Higher in frequency than the BEEP) vs the BEEP BEEP sounds I've had for ever. The computer start-up sequence is very slow as it takes minutes before the computer is ready to be used.

During the virus removal, a few times the reboot start-up sounds were BEEP - TIC - BEEP (again the TIC was higher a higher tone and faster than the BEEPs). What do the different sounds mean?

I'll start another thread requesting help to fix my computer problems.

Hi every1, Pls help me, I've bought 2 new ram cards from crucial.com. Each card is (256MB 144-Pin SoDimm 32MX64 PC133Mhz) equalling 512MB, because i was told the beeps are ram problems. And they both worked fine for a while, no beeps T22 loads up, but now all of a sudden my T22 beeps when i turn it on so i've swapped the ram cards about, still beeps when i switch the laptop on. so i took 1 ram card out and tried it with just 1 card (256MB) in both slots, perfect!! no beeps and loaded up perfectly when i put the card in each slot. When i try the other card with the first card BEEPING again!!!! so i tried that card on its own in each slot and beep again, thats the second time i had to send one back. Also should my Ram cards be PC133Mhz  or PC100Mhz? Whats happening to my memory banks?????Sorry for the long message. Thank you.

Answer:beep beep beep pc beeps

It could be that your Pc is overheating. If it has been with you for a while then dust gets stuck in the heat sink of the procesor and on its fan this makes the fan go slow and that causes the overheating.Ifyou know a little about Pc then switch off the PC at the mains take off the side pannel of the tower and look on the mother board for a small fan, you could put a vacuumm close to the fan and this may take out the dust, if not you will need to take off the fan to clean the heat sink

Does that mean "one out of three times the wallpaper changes"? Have you looked in your Control Panel under Sounds and see if anything is set that might cause it?

For some silly reason I removed the 2 128mg PC2100DR ram sticks from my old computer that was working just fine. When I reinstalled them and I try to boot up I get a long beep, a pause, and another long beep. This senario continues and I shut the computer down as soon as possible. I'm sure I have the ram seated properly. Any ideas? Thank you in advance

If you are sure that you have them seated correctly try one stick at a time.

My Asrock K7S8X, AMD+ 2.1, 512 MB PC has always run fine, but now it starts ok although the fan seems to be racing on, then the post beep, fine, then just as the fan starts to slow and the resultant volume deceases from the aforesaid fan, a second post-style beep occurs. I have a program called MotherBoardMonitor which tells me that the minimum speed for the fan is 2500RPM, my CPU temp is (approx) 47 to 54 , Mobo temp around 31, what could the problem be, i cant find any specific info on the net after hours of looking, thanks for any help, G

Before you do anything else reseat your RAM modules. If this doesn't fix it go back to basics - disconnect everything from your mobo except graphics card, power and RAM does it boot the monitor on start up? If not and you only have 1 ram module fitted beg or borrow another and try that - if you have 2 ram modules try them one at a time on their own. Post back when done and adviseRgds

Okay, so i've had some major issues with my pc. First my computer fails to boot. So there are not beeps whatsoever. Swapped psu, so i know it wasn't that. So it's either the motherboard or the cpu. So I guess cpu. Turns out no. Does the same thing. So I just now installed my new motherboard, and well, it doesn't boot. But this time, i do get a beep. and an annoying one at that. It's a very loud beep that lasts about 20 or 30 seconds, stops and repeats. Not sure how many times it will, cause after 3 i shut it off. So can some one tell me what could be wrong. I have an asus p5n-d with a q6600. Thanks in advance. Gavin.

Answer:beep code question?

Never heard a beep *beep* for that long, then repeat. However, I'd check your ram.
Long, repeated beeps usually mean bad RAM or video card. Out of those the more likely is the RAM.

Try booting with only one stick in, see if you get the same error. If you still get beeps, swap the one stick in the pc with a different stick and try again.

I have a M57  6075-A5U with Windows Vista.  The UPS that I had it connected to failed and had to be replaced.  After I replaced the UPS the computer would no longer boot.  I have tried it connected directly to the wall with the same results.  When I power on the computer I get the following beep sequence: "long short short short" a slight pause then "short short short long" I cannot get to the BIOS.  It just beeps once with the above sequence then does nothing.  The fans are running, by the way.  Does anyone know what this beep sequence means?

Answer:beep sequence question

try to reseat the ram.

My P4 2.6 system got hit by lightning (again - happened last year). I have started repair by replacing the Power supply first and now the motherboard. The motherboard I installed last year is the same make/model I have installed this time.

As best as I was able, I re-installed wires and cables as before. I have double checked the + - orientation on the various pins (led, reset, etc).

When I turn on power I get the green light on the MB, the fan to the CPU runs as does the fan for the video card.

I not get any beep - nor do I get an visual on the monitor - a monitor that I know is good.

I understand that no beep can mean a bad motherboard. My question is this: Can no beep code at all be tied either to a fried CPU or fried memory or other issue than a bad MB?

thanks,
Lee1

Answer:ASUS P4Pe2-x No Beep question

Here's some things you can try (if you haven't already):

1. Reset your BIOS by using the jumper (should be documented in the instruction manual) or you can just remove the battery from the motherboard for about a minute and put it back in.

2. Make sure your heatsink is actually touching the CPU. I'm not experienced with Pentium's but I know that with AMD processors, the heatsink can only be put on one way.

3. Only plug in necessary hardware (i.e. no wireless, USB, Firewire cards).

4. I can't tell if you used the cables and wires from the old computer or not, but if you did, they may be faulty due to the lightning strike, try new ones.

5. Check the jumper settings to make sure they are correct for your processor, the instruction manual should detail this.

Hope this helps!

Will a motherboard produce beep codes if the processor is dead? If you want, just answer this question but I will post a larger description of my problem below if you care to read.

Alright, I just installed a new motherboard into my PC and I am having a little trouble. When i tried to pry off the heatsink from the processor on the old board, the processor came with it and the pins bent. I straightened them out pretty well and got the processor to fit in the slot decently. I reapplied the thermal compound, booted, and there was NOTHING except power. But this is not the end. I took the processor back out, slid a credit card between the pins to straighten them better, put it back, and tried again. I get beep codes now. They are just 1 long one followed by a pause and then another long one over and over. So back to my original question, I was just wondering if the processor is working. I am kind of thinking it is the RAM now, which would totally suck. Anyways, your input is GREATLY appreciated. Thank you.

Answer:one quick question about beep codes

I have never had beep codes with a dead cpu, i have also had many bent pins and straightened them out as you did with no problems, clear the cmos, unplug power supply, pull mb battery out, hold down on-off button for a few seconds, wait a few minutes and try to get it to post. ed

most of the time I start my computer I get five beeps pause of few seconds and then 2 beeps. Initially, it was five beeps on;y but the last two have been started recently. what is it about? how can I solve this problem?

Answer:5 beep pause 2 beep

The beep sequence refers to the CMOS battery - or the clock chip.  Replace the reserve (CMOS) battery -- it's usually a CR-2032 button cell.  If you need details, post the model number (i.e., Inspiron N5110, XPS 9333, etc.).

Anyone know what it means if you get a long beep followed by two short beeps when you boot up?  When this happens the screen is blank; it never continues booting; no Windows XP logo, etc.  It continues beeping like this until I hold the power button down until it shuts down.  Then, I can restart it, and it boots up, seeminly without issue.  This happens when I reboot intentionally (after windows updates or new software installs, etc.) as well as after it periodically locks up.  I suspect that the problem with it locking up is related to this--I don't consider a system lockup to EVER be acceptable, but I don't have time to get mad about it right now. This is a z61m.

Answer:Beeeeeeeep, beep beep

post your version of bios here. every bios manufacturer has their own beep codes which surely sujjests that the system has a problem

Question: Beeeep, beep beep

I just got new asus AM2 mobo and I'm getting beeps on start. 1 long beep and two short. Somewhere I found it is related to video card. I'm not sure if that's true, but I know videocard is functional and inserted correctly.
The mobo has it's own video, so I tried using only that, same thing. It just doesn't seem to make sense.

Answer:Beeeep, beep beep

One long two short looks like a video issue, as you said. You say it is also happening when you remove the graphics card and try to boot up with the onboard graphics?

Here's what I'd do:

Remove the motherboard from the case and set it on a box beside your case. Next, reset cmos (check your manual to find the cmos jumper pins).

Remove everything from the motherboard except:

cpu with heatsink/fan
one stick of ram
power supply connections to the motherboard (should be two)
connect the case's speaker to the motherboard

Then use a screwdriver to quickly touch (short) the two pins that usually connect to your case's power on switch.

See what kind of beeps you get.

If you still get the beeps, my guess is your need to RMA the board, but please post your system's full specs (including your power supply specs)

Good luck!

I just got a strange reaction from my pc. It was working fine last night, I went to start, turn off computer, shut down and went to bed. I got up this morning and I saw a notice on the screen (PC did not shut down during the night) It said there was a change to the global template for microsoft word and did I want to save changes so I said no and the pc shut down. Later on I tried to call up my key logger and heard a beeping noise from within my pc. I paid it no attention and went on the rest of the day working. I was using Quicken later on and noticed that when I tried to view certain graphs they seemed to be "fluttering" (The page seemed to go up and down rapidly on its own) I closed it and ran Avast antivirus scan. I tried to activate it and got an error message that said it ran into some kind of runtime error (I think) I finly got it started, ran a scan and came up empty of viruses. Then Avast kept shutting itself off. I emptied my waste basket, went to internet options, deleted all files and history (Including online content) then cleared all in Firefox. Next I went to start, run msconfig, start up disable all, restart, back to start, run, msconfig, enable all, reboot and everything seems to be fine now. Can anyone tell me what this may have or still is?

Ok, the other day my girlfriends brother gave me a Compaq Presario V2000 laptop. He said he couldn't get windows to boot up, all it did was start to load and after a few seconds it would start running CHKDSK with a blue screen, but once it got to step 3 it would say it was complete, but wouldn't go any further or boot windows up.

So yesterday I decided to mess with it, and it did what he said it did. So I tried to booted it into SAFEMODE and it wouldn't. So I restarted it and pressed ESC and ran a Hard Drive Self Test and got an 07 FAIL. After that I restarted it, and all I got was a black screen then it made a loud BEEP sound fallowed by a REALLY LOUD BEEP, then it did nothing.

Does anyone know what the problem is?

Thanks!

Answer:Beep, Beep thats all folks

Probably a bad harddrive.

Youd better hope they had their information backed up...

What you can try is hooking it up to another PC as slave and see if you can get any data off of it, but they will likely need a new harddrive and OS.

Two easy questions  1. How do I reach the BIOS? Is it ctrl+P at startup? If so, where can I find out or make a password to put in? I just got my laptop shipped to me on August 5 and have no idea where this password is. 2. Once in the BIOS, is it pretty obvious where to find the section to disable some of the beeping noises that arent necessary? If not, can I have some help on where to find it? Thanks.

HI,

I have just been given a VAIO PCG8A2M (GRX316MP) , i was told "it's broken but if you can fix it yo can have it" so having a quick look at it there's no sign of life on the display but the lights come on and i can here the HDD heads moving about.

Looking a little more i found that all the ram is missing , so now im not sure if its worth buying some ram to see if it works or not ? The lack of ram would prob explain the lack of display but i wonder if i should be getting POST beeps at least, which im not.

So my question is if a VAIO had no ram should (if all else was working) it be getting POST beeps ?

Thx all,
Jackdinn.

Answer:VAIO quick question, post beep without ram ?

I would expect it to post a memory error set of bleeps at startup , but its may have onboard memory and the expansion memory is missing
I will need to look up the spec - so I may come back with an edit

EDIT
ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/pub/Manuals/Notebooks/GRX/GRX300/GRX300P_T_UK.pdf
The machine has 256MB memory on board as standard and an expansion for upto 512MB - maximum - hence the memory is probably working and no post .....
Also a 30GB harddrive - so ignore the notes about a hidden partition, most unlikely...

A PC running XP on 256MB will be very slow .....

can you get into the bios/setup as it boots (on my vaio thats F2) - that would tell you the onboard memory it can see

did you get any CDs recovery with the PC - its possible it has a hidden partition - you may be able to recover the PC from that partition
as it boots tap F10 - should open sony recovery centre

Otherwise you could try this to see if the hardware is working and if it will boot off a CD
UBUNTU
It may be possible to boot from another Operating System
This will at least test the Hardware and also see if you can see the Harddrive and possibly get data off.

If you have another PC with a cdwriter and spare CD
goto http://www.ubuntu.com/ and download the ISO

full details are here http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/wind...backup-files-from-your-dead-windows-computer/

Question: Lil Beep

Ok, this morning i got a constant beep from my computer and it wouldn't start. The only new thing ive added to my computer in the last comple of days has been a cable from my cd drive to my sound card.

Just want to know why this has occured , what error causes the constant beep?

Answer:Lil Beep

I think constant beep is a CPU problem, varies btw boards tho. Did you knock anything while plugging in your cable? check the CPU RAM and GPU first make sure they are all seated correctly.

Answer:beep or something...

You might be hearing "Keyboard Clicks" I'd suggest that you explore your keyboard settings and disable anything that resembles keyboard clicks or key sounds. Here's how you do it on a Dell:

Quote:
Press [FN] + [F1] to enter the Setup program.
Press [ALT] + [P] (both at the same time) to go to the second page.
Highlight Keyboard Click: and press the [Right arrow] key (->) to set
it to Disabled.
Press [ESC] to exit the Setup program.
Now the keyboard will not emit a beep tone when you type.

I am just starting to put a new system together (for the first time). Last night I connected up the motherboard which is an ASUS A8V Deluxe.

I am assembling it out of the case to start with and have connected the 20 pin ATX power and the 4 pin power cables. I have also connected the case cables, Power Switch, Reset, HDD LED, Power LED, and speaker. It was getting late so I have not connected the CPU, FDD, HDD, CD, Memory, Graphics Card, Keyboard, or Mouse but thought when I switched it on I would at least get a beep, in fact as this M/B gives voice prompts on POST I was expecting a message saying "No CPU loaded"

Instead, all that happened was that on switching on the power supply the neon on the board came on as the manual says it will to indicate that there is "soft power" to the board, then when I pressed the on switch the Power LED and HDD LED came on briefly then nothing, not even a beep.

Does this indicate anything wrong? The board is resting on a soft cotton towel so I know that it is not shorting out. Obviously I will try attaching more bits when I get some more time, but would appreciate some confirmation that this is normal or at least not unusual.

Thanks

Question: 8 Beep

Hi,

I need help with my Dell Inspiron N5110. In 6 years, I have never encountered any problem with it except is slowed after a couple of years from the date of Purchase (late 2010) and battery which I removed and never replaced.
I am not a techie person so please bear with my explanation.

Last week, i have encountered the 8-beeps and blank screen I tried the "D" and power button and it did restart which I thought already back to normal. I shut it down and went to work. The next day, as I turned it on, it gave me the blank screen again and the beeps, unfortunately the "D"-thing wont work anymore.
I am afraid my laptop would resign on me - I cannot afford to lose it. Please I need help - what shall I do?

Thanks.

Question: Beep,Beep,Beep

After a few days drying out, my machine is at least attempting to start. It goes as far as the beep and stops. The keyboard is not lighting up and the monitor says no computer. I have opened and cleaned it up as much a possible. The floppy drive doesn't even kick over. Any help would be appreciated. It just repeatedly beeps. It got pretty wet in an accident about a week ago. Any ideas where to go from here?

Ok. I am helping my friend build his computer. We got everything hooked up. His powersupply hasn't came in yet, so we took the one out of his old Dell, and shoved it in there. Heh

He has:
Athlon 64 3000+
3 Extra Fans
CDRW
80GB HD
Radeon 9600

Our problem is :
All of the fans come on, and I believe the harddrive is running. The CD-drive lights up in the front but the green light keeps blinking. We try to stick the little needle thing to open it, and when we get the cddrive open, it automatically shuts back. So it keeps wanting to shut itself, even when it is shut.

Nothing ever comes up.. and we never hear a beep. There is this red light at the top/left of the motherboard (looking from the backside of the computer) that appears.

We tried unhooking all the fans, except the CPU fan of course, and it still does it.

Our conclusion is that it is either the powersupply or the processor.

We are going to wait till the powersupply comes in and try that one, just in case.

What does this sound like?

Also.. the motherboard could also be the problem I imagine. I am going to get him to make sure the CPU is down good..

Answer:Nothing comes up, no beep , wow

Although I have heard that the newest Dells use power supplies with wiring that matches the rest of the world, the older ones did not. Do not try to use that power supply again. Keep your fingers crossed that nothing got fried in the process

Question: Beep beep

Re Dell optiplex 755 XP Pro Ethernet Connected

Machine is emitting a short 2 beep beep every 3-5 minutes
Whether its on or off.

The only variable is a periodic flash from the input ethernet cable light at the input slot on back of machine.

WHAT IS THAT BEEP BEEP FROM?

Answer:Beep beep

That beep sequence doesn't conform to the normal beep error codes for your computer - p350 of User Guide Dell - which you may want to bookmark as it seems to be quite comprehensive in its troubleshooting guide.

If you don't have the onboard Dell Diagnostics on your computer, you can run these Dell Online Diagnostics to check out the hardware Dell Hardware Diagnostics | Dell

Question: What the beep?

Hey,

I'm more curious what happened here. I've already fixed the problem, but still I'd like to know what it was.

I was installing a DVD drive the other day. My current CD drive didn't have a master/slave cable on it, so I switched it with the cable that my hard drive was using. Once everything was hooked up, I powered up the PC and started getting an odd beeping sound from the mother board. It would buzz for a second, than stop for a second, then buzz for a second etc.. No signal was ever sent to the monitor when this happened. I pulled stuff off the mother board one by one to see if one of them was causing the beep (video card, modem, drives, everything). Finally I just had the mother board cpu and power supply hooked up. Still got the beeping. I then (kind of frustrated now) hooked everything back up the way it was originally, and it worked. I added the DVD player, and that worked too.

What the beep was that beeping buzzing sound? Why did it go away, what might I have done wrong??????

Thanks,
- Beck

Answer:What the beep?

Beep codes indicate hardware (usually video) problems with your system. The specifc series of beeps communicates the exact issue. To know what it means, you'd have to know the BIOS make, model and version. This info can usually be found using a system info utility like SANDRA or Everest

Question: Beep!!

Ok, so I got a new Powersupply and memory for my computer...and something happened with the motherboard. The monitor would turn on , and seeing as how I just got a new PSU I was thinking that might be the issue. Well I replaced PSU's to my old one which worked fine and it doesnt work either. So after fiddling with everything for a while I turned everything off and go something to eat.

I came back and tried some other things to see if it worked...and then the HORRID high pitched beeping noise loud as hell came out of the CPU...

What is this? It turns off when the computer shuts down but damn, everytime I turn the computer on it comes out.

Answer:Beep!!

sounds like your mother board might be nuked.

Hiyas

I've actually had this one, and oddly enough on a dell as well. I don't know if it's the same thing, but in my case it was the audio driver. Go figure... Anyways, all i did with that laptop was get an updated audio driver and the problem was solved.

Question: Beep???

i've been having a problem with my computer lately..it'll start beeping, freeze and then restart for no reason at all?? i opened my case up and figured out that the beeping is coming from the hard drive? but i dont know what is causing it... does ne1 know of anything that might help? i tried restoring my comp re-installing windows all that n i even installed windows sp2 and all the anti viruses n what not but its still doing it..please help if u know what is wrong..

Answer:Beep???

Unless the hardware world changed without me knowing about it, hard drives don't beep.

They are, however, often installed very close to the case speaker (a small round speaker that is used pretty much just to generate error beeps).

The key here would be to post the indentification of your motherboard (manufacturer, model) and what kind of BIOS is installed on it, and then describe the beeping (how many beeps, are they short, long, etc).

The beeps are saying something is wrong. What we need is to figure out what they're saying. That involves knowing the language (what BIOS is doing the talking) and the words (3 short beeps, a long and four short, whatever).

Usually when BIOS complains like this it's about the video card or the memory or something basic and important like that. Once the problem is identified it should be a simple matter of replacing the failing parts.

Question: It goes Beep

My Vista desk top is acting up more and more. When it goes to a new web page sometimes it will freeze and hang there for a long time. If you touch the keyboard during this period the tower will make a beep noise.
Still nothing is responding during this period other than it making the beep noise.

After a while I can use ctrl, alt, delete to get to the control screen and start again.

Any idea why the computer is doing this and can I fix it so it does not "go beep" any more?

PLease HElp

Answer:No beep

What would concern me is the no beep. The audible BIOS beep codes should tell you what's going on. If there's no beep and no power failure, my guess would be that it has something to do with your video card not relaying info to the monitor. Make sure the card is seated properly in the AGP slot, if it's an AGP card. If it's a PCI or PCI-E card, try changing the PCI(E) slot it's in. Make sure all your monitor cable connections are clean.

It could also be a power supply issue. Sometimes drastically changing the mobo increases the demand on a power supply. What kind of power supply are you using, and what kind of mobo were you using it with before you upgraded?

Question: CPU Beep

I got CivIV but had trouble getting it to play. 2K Games said it was a common problem with ATI V.Cards and told me to uninstall the drivers and then go to ATI.com and reinstall new drivers: http://www.2kgames.com/civ4/support_ati.htm.

So I do all that and get the game up and running but now whenever I play a game on my computer there's a random beeping coming from inside my CPU, doesn't beep when watching movies or playing music or normal things just when gaming.

Does any one have any idea what this could be or how to get it to stop?

Answer:CPU Beep

Its not actualy comming from your CPU its comming either from your internal Speaker or Exterior Speakers. Try removing the drivers, using Driver cleaner pro (free) to clean everything then reinstall the new ones. It may work.
