NTbackup fails to load properly

Question: NTbackup fails to load properly

I have had NTbackup installed on my Windows XP Pro PC for some time and used it successfully. Now, suddenly, when I double-click the application, no window appears. If I look in Task Manager, "ntbackup.exe" appears in the Processes list and a very small blank window with Backup in the blue title bar appears, but nothing else. The only way to get rid of the window is to end the task in Task Manager.I have tried reinstalling ntbackup.exe from the Windows CD, but this has no effect.Any suggestions?

Preferred Solution: NTbackup fails to load properly

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: NTbackup fails to load properly

Look for the NTbackup folder and delete everything that is IN the folder, reboot your system. Reinstall NTbackup software, hopefully this will cure the problem.I think the reinstall is still looking at the old setup in the NTbackup folder and not overwriting with the new install?

I have a customer who has an SBS2003 SP2 server (fully patched) that has two external USB harddrives that the server backs up data nightly to, one per night, drives swapped out each night. The customer asked me to encrypt the external harddrives since they are taken offsite each night and the customer wanted the data encyrpted in case the drives were stolen or lost. I enabled EFS on the server and then encrypted the data on both of the harddrives. Since then (about a week ago), ntbackup that runs at 11:30pm each night fails immediately upon its scheduled runtime.

The ntbackup logs for the past week consista of this output:

Note that User SYSTEM is running the backup (per your log file). The System account probably doesn't have access to your EFS encrypted drive. Change the backup task to run under the Administrator account.

I'm getting the following error message when I try to restore a .BKF file created on a CD with the NTBACKUP application on Windows XP:

"Unrecognized media
The backup file contains unrecognized data and cannot be used."

I have two diffferent backups on two different CDs, each getting the same
error message. The backups completed successfully with no indication of a

My old hard drive crashed and I lost all the data (the local computer repair shop could not recover the files). I get the above error message when I run the "restore files" function from the Windows XP NTBACKUP application.

I tried to copy the .BKF file on the CD to my new hard drive and got this error message:

"Error copying file or folder
Cannot copy BACKUP: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)"

Since the NTBACKUP backups completed successfully, I made the assumption (which was wrong, apparently), that the "restore" function would also be successful.

If I can't restore the two backup files on these two CDs, I will lose all my data, which is a very painful prospect. If anyone has any idea on how to restore the .BKF file or how to copy it to a hard drive (getting around the CRC error), please advise.

Thanks much.

Here is the list of the problems in order of which I noticed things going awry:

1. My Firefox browser will re-direct my google searches to a new Firefox window pop-up with "google-analytics" in its address bar, but would never finish loading the new popped-up window. Firefox would also re-direct and never finish loading my google searches by opening a new tab with a "" in its address bar.

2. Microsoft Office 2010 applications don't open, instead a "DW20.exe" and a "DWWin.exe" replicates itself an infinite number of times in my processes, maxing out my CPU.

3. My anti-virus applications (Spyware Doctor, Microsoft Security Essentials, avast!, malwarebytes) won't update, and therefore won't run or scan. Firefox also won't load various anti-virus sites, such as this message board.

4. Other applications crash directly upon opening them (VLC Media Player)

Solutions that I've tried:

1. Resetting my router. I'd read somewhere online that doing this would solve the problem. It did not.

2. Trying to restore from a restore point. I opened System Restore, but the restore points were all very recent and within the timeframe of infection.

3. Un-installing Microsoft Office 2010 and re-installing. System won't let me un-install.

Here are my scan reports:

Not long ago (a week and a half or so) I was playing Payday 2 and my computer froze, I turned off my computer to restart it and could not load my computer past a pre-loading windows black screen where the mouse was not showing. I then tried booting my computer in various ways (safe, with and without networking etc) and they worked, however I believe one of my drivers failing to load was the reason for my "Windows Normal" startup to fail. I eventually decided through, I then looked at using the system restore point function in order to hope for some success. The system restore function when I restored to; a week ago, two weeks ago, did not seem too alleviate my issue much, it did however allow me to load windows but almost immediately after using the machine for 2-5 minutes I would have a frozen screen again. I then eventually decided to just factory reset the machine out of desperation, the factory reset eventually happened successfully and I was able to load windows and login into my new user successfully, as I learnt that I had to reinstall my graphical drivers I then attempted to put in various CD's in in order to install these drivers, eventually when I figured out the order of CD's that I needed to install for my games to load properly, I then resumed my activities on my pc (such as gaming, browsing etc).
Flash forward to the second factory reset, this one happened due to a very similar freezing problem yet again, and again I decided to turn off my computer ... Read more

I am attempting to repair a computer owned by my roommate's son; he received it second-hand and has been running it without any protective services on it, and it has become infected with malware.

At this time, I don't know what the infection is or how to clear it, for the following reasons (which I have failed to find a solution for on my own):

1. When booting into Safe Mode, I am unable to load the OS when logging in as Administrator. The OS hangs after accepting the password and never finishes loading.

2. When booting into Safe Mode and logging in as his user name, I am unable to run any services or access any drives to load diagnostic software packages. Every few minutes, or any time I attempt to perform a task such as opening the "My Computer" panel and accessing a drive, the "You are operating in Safe Mode, click Yes to continue or No to use System Restore" prompt pops up and closes all windows, forcing me to start over (which in turn triggers the prompt to return).

I have been able to load the Task Manager under the user profile, and have on a couple of occasions identified the task sysnotifier.exe as one possible culprit, but I don't think it's the only one and I'm unable to actually run anything to remove it; killing that process has not allowed Safe Mode to continue running.

I also suspect the HD is overloaded, but again, I can't get past the initial "My Computer" screen to access anything at this time; attempting to load ... Read more

Answer:Safe Mode fails to run properly

'K. You've got serious problems.

What I'd do first is pull the HD and install it as a secondary drive on my known-good and malware-free computer.

Run chkdsk /r right off the start.
Then run Clean Up ! to get rid of temporary files.
Then run your local, installed anti-virus software on the secondary drive.
Then run TrendMicro's "Housecall" on the drive.

Then you can start looking around for data to delete, move off or whatever. Once the drive is 90% clean, verified as having good sector addresses and enough free space to work with, you might be able to gain some traction on the boot issues.

I have installed an older 32 bit program (TurboCAD version 7) on my Vista Home Premium x64 computer. I had to use Compatibility Mode (with XP SP2) to get it to install and run. It now runs fine but there is one minor issue that I would like to eliminate if possible. When I close the program, a message is displayed saying:

TurboCAD for Windows has stopped working.

Two options are then presented:
1. Check online for a solution and close the program.
2. Close the program.

There is also a list of problem details presented with a lot of data that I don't understand, but at the top of the list is this - Problem Event Name: APPCRASH

What I normally do is just select "Close the Program" and it then ends without any further problems. I have tried selecting the check online for a solution option, but it didn't seem to help any. Is there a way to do away with this closure failure box so that TurboCAD will just close without any interaction from me?

Not long ago, I upgraded my memory and cpu. All went well until I turned it on for the first time, and it failed to POST. I reseated the memory as the beep code suggested for me to do. And it past the POST and all is well, right? Over time the computer would fail to POST again, but if you were to leave it powered up you could hear the hard drives spin down as it would restart and try to POST again. After the 2nd restart, it POSTs nearly every time. It does this with just the old memory, just the new memory, and both old/new combined (the old RAM is 2x1024 DDR2 800 Corsair XMS and the new sticks are 2x2048 DDR2 Corsair XMS).

A few days later the computer wouldn't power up correctly, the MB would get a short burst of power then shut off. I would have to unplug the PSU, plug it back in and wait 10 seconds. Once I hit the power switch it would then power the computer normally. This led me to believe that my PSU was the source of my problems. I knew it was a cheaper PSU unit and would not be surprised if it was dying.

Again after a new symptom occurred. Playing games my graphics started to get sluggish for my video card, an EVGA GTX 275. At this point I was dead sure the PSU was at fault. I assumed that card along with everything wasn't getting enough juice.

I get a hold of a different power supply to try, a Corsair 650TX. I was wrong. Two of the three symptoms persist. The computer now receives power properly when turned on every time. However, the computer... Read more

I am the legal owner of Office Professional 4 and an Office 97 upgrade. I later bought an official download to lift the 97 to Office 2003. I failed to save the 2003 program on a CD (Shame & confusion) I made it a practice to back up the whole C drive onto a compact minidisk using Dos.Due to slow performance my hardware supplier suggested I reformat the C drive and reload the Programs and files - not to use Dos but "File settings and Transfer Wizard". I was impressed that the contents of the minidisk only amounted to 1.8 gigabytes only to realise after he had done the reformat that I had to reload all the programs.UNFORTUNATELY (!) I find that after reloading the Office Pro 4 and then running the Office 97 upgrade the latter will not conclude satisfactorily because "htmlmarq.ocx was unable to register itself in the system registry".As a result I cannot get into any of some of my serious Access files *.mdb and am facing the need to do so. Everytime I close the Internet Explorer window, the window goes white and blank rather than closing immediately. Then a Error Report window pops up asking if I'd like to send an error report back to Microsoft or not.

I've already run my anti-virus (the latest version of Norton) and Ad-Aware and the problem persists.

This only happens on IE7. Closing the windows of other applications (My Documents, Outlook Express, etc.) is fine and they close down as normal.

Although it's not a major problem, it's getting really annoying.

Anyone know what the problem could be?

Hello, ladies and gentlemen!
We have Windows-based environment (Windows 7 Pro SP1 + Windows XP Pro SP3), we are running Office 2003 and Office 2010. We are using Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP PCs, and Internet Explorer 9 on Windows 7 PCs.
One of our programmers created an Excel spreadsheet with a VBS macro assigned to a button; the macro is below.
Sub LiveLoadLoadCombinations()
Dim IE As Object, strFile As String, iPageNum As Long
strFile = "Q:\Structural - Misc\NBCC 2005\National Building Code of Canada 2005 Volume 1.pdf"
iPageNum = 233
Set IE = CreateObject("InternetExplorer.Application")
IE.Navigate strFile & "#Page=" & iPageNum
IE.Visible = True
End Sub

It works on most of the machines in our network (opens PDF file on the page #233), but on some PCs it would just open PDF file on page 1 instead of 233.

I have tested it on the some PCs; beneath is the configuration and the results of the test:
PC1: Windows XP - Office 2003 - IE8 - Adobe Reader 10.1.2 - WORKS
PC2: Windows 7 - Office 2010- IE9 - Adobe Reader 10.1.3 - WORKS

PC4: Windows 7 - Office 2003 - IE9 - Adobe Reader 10.1.0 - FAILS TO OPEN THE PAGE

Im traveling for several months without a laptop. I have 2 seagate 2TB external HD's for photo backups (tons of DSLR RAW photo data). Ive been using internet cafes and hotel computers to copy mem cards to these 2 HDs without issues for 3 months now on a variety of older computers usually running windows XP / XP pro. In the last week whenever I plugin either HD into a computer with Windows XP or Vista the drive fails to recognize saying it "The disk in drive E is not formatted". I thought I had lost the data, but I was able to try it on a laptop with windows 8 and the drives come up just fine with all my data in tact. Im having this same issue with a usb memory stick as well as an SD card. All of these drives are formatted EXFAT (not sure about the SD card formatting). Its quite hard to find computers in SE Asia with the latest great windows OS, so just using windows 8 computers is not a viable option for me. Any ideas what could be going on or how I can get older OS's to read the drives again?

thanks in advance...

My U300 running Vista Home has gone into a boot loop: Windows fails to start properly and prompts me to use Startup Repair, which doesn't succeed and simply prompts me to shut down the computer again.

I've tried safe mode, but no success there either. I have a Product Recovery CD, but the system will not boot from it. When I investigated in Startup, I saw that the BIOS is not detecting the optical drive.

Help please! Thank you.

Answer:Satellite U300 - Windows fails to start properly

Hi NotForProfit,

You could try to load the default settings in BIOS. Maybe it will reconigze the CD/DVD drive again.

Otherwise I think it?s necessary to replace the faulty drive. Then you would be able to use the Toshiba recovery disk again. This will restore factory settings in few minutes.

For years I have had dual monitors working fine in my Win 7 machine. Then a few months ago I started having problems when the computer turn on or wakes from sleep mode. The primary monitor turns on then switches off after a second. The only remedy is to
turn off the monitor, turn on, and repeat until finally the monitor stays awake.

I have tried shutting down the computer and starting using the system restore disk - the monitor does not come on.
I tried installing a replacement video card (and turning off the motherboard video support) the problem is the same. This indicates it is not the video driver or physical video chip.

I googled around and found that I should go to services.msc, find Virtual Disk, set it on Automatic (although some posters say set it on Manual), start the service and reboot. This did not help, on either automatic or manual.

The followup suggestion was to go to devmgmt.msc, expand the disk drives, double-click on the drive, choose volumes and, if no volumes are listed, click "populate." But when I do that I get the message, "Volume information for this disk cannot be found." I have three hard drives in this computer and they all return that message.

What should I do?

Both within the last week or so I have encountered the Google re-direct issue that I have noticed there is a lot of talk about. I downloaded Ad Aware and it cleaned some files off of my computer but the re-direct issue still existed.

There are also random times where when I click a link on a website, I have three or four new tabs pop up with re-directs to websites that don't seem to exist (IE the link is broken). This does not happen all the time, just on random occasions.

95% of the time when I click a link on Google I get re-directed to a different page - usually one filled with advertisements. I have had to right click the link and Open in a New Tab to get to the webpage I actually wanted to visit.

After I developed these problems, I thought it might be a Firefox issue so I un-installed it and downloaded Google Chrome. I have been using that ever since but the same issues remain. As a result, I downloaded the new Firefox again and I am having the same issues regardless of what browser I use.

My other problem is with my laptop failing to Hibernate. This began occurring around (although I can't pinpoint the exact time) the same time I had the Google re-direct issues. When I try to put my computer in Hibernate mode it goes to the Windows screen and says Hibernating and then quickly brings me back to my Desktop. I have lost battery power several times as a result by thinking my computer was hibernating overnight when it was actually still running without being pl... Read more

I have reinstalled 3 times and have therefore lost any conversations I had going.
When I start it up it comes up with the update window but then seems to fail no other correspondence and the viber.exe file is gone. Still works fine on my Android phone but I like the convenience of the desktop app.

Answer:Viber desktop update continuously fails, how can I get this working properly?

It is quite irritating and annoying.
Anyone to find a solution? I believe it is for the viber team to sort out the problem - the problems still exist in windows 10 thought to a much smaller degree

Hello,I have a frustrating problem with an external monitor. It worked just fine before I wiped my hard drive because of a virus. Here is the hardware that I am trying to connect together:- T61 running Windows XP Pro.- NVidia Quadro NVS 140M graphics card- Lenovo docking station that is connected to the external monitor- Widescreen Viewsonic 2025WM LCD monitorI used Rescue and Recover to put the computer back to the original configuration. Afterwards I ran Windows updates, and ThinkVantage System Updates. I put the computer back into the docking station, and the external Viewsonic display looked like garbage! (By this I mean very poor resolution.) I loaded the drivers that came with the monitor, and made sure that the NVidia graphics card had the most current drivers from Lenovo?s website. I've uninstalled & reinstalled presentation manager. I?ve tried every setting for the display configuration using the BIOS setup utility. I?ve tried hooking up the monitor to the docking station outputs (both VGA and DVI), and also to the VGA port directly on the laptop while it was undocked. I have also tried to install the ViewSonic drivers in VGA mode while the monitor is hooked up to the laptop without the docking station. The NVidia control panel prompts me to set the external resolution to 1680X1050, but when I choose "yes" the monitor reverts to 640X480.I think the main problem is that when I go to the XP control panel, choose ?display properties? and ?settings,? th... Answer:Windows XP fails to properly identify External Monitor: Poor resolution

I'm having the same issue, I think.  I was having issues with docking and undocking, and switching profiles - annoying and time-consuming multiple screen blank-outs and refreshes.  I tried updating the drivers for the NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M, and badda boom! my external monitor display yields FUZZY text and graphics! This condition remains in both clone and dual-view modes, and appears to be independent of the monitor: symptoms are identical for both a Planar and a ViewSonic.  Re-loading the monitor drivers was no help. Misery loves company.  Help! indeed.

I am using Intel i3-530 on Intel DH55TC Motherboard. The motherboard supports RAM with highest frequency of 1333MHz. However, I was told that using a higher speed RAM wouldn't hurt the system. So, today I bought a Corsair Vengeance 4GB 1600MHz RAM. The RAM is detected in BIOS, but OSes fail to boot after that. Even Ubuntu throws Kernel panic error while booting. Could anyone help me with the BIOS settings required to run this memory stick?

Answer:OS fails to load when using new RAM

Hello Mycroft mate as a general rule running a higher frequency RAM stick in a machine that runs that only supports the lower one the frequency will revert to the frequency of the new stick will be maxed to what frequency your machine will support. So I think whoever told you could run a higher frequency RAM stick in the machine should have known better and to get you to check out the supported RAM speed before you went out and got the new RAM.
If possible I would get the supplier to change it for 1333 (there really isn't much to be gained from 1600) and the extra RAM will still make a difference to your machine simply because the system has more to use and therefore less bottle knecking - in other words the CPU can load more faster if it has more empty RAM available.

ie Tip a bucket of water through a 1 inch outlet funnel into another bucket and it fills quite nicely in say 5 minutes - now take a funnel with a 10 inch outlet and the second bucket fills in no time at all - the first bucket is the CPU and the second bucket the RAM the difference being there is more channels for the data to flow through even though it might be the slower speed RAM

You can see from this Intel? Desktop Board DH55TC the board only supports 1333 max - you can install a faster RAM stick but why bother?

So for example the 1600 you have put in should only run at 1333 if the machine specs say max 1333. The other problem could be that the new RAM stick is bad.

To see about RAM this might gi... Read more

Hey There, i had a brilliant result last time i came onto here for help so here i am again. :D

Last week my computer was working fine until one day i had to turn my computer off by the mains (Not shut down)

i turned it on then i had the normal boot screen and everything coming up but no windows xp loading screen
i then waited for something to happen but there was no result. it just stayed at a black screen. i then restarted it and when into safe mode and that also failed to load because it stopped loading at a certain file.

i then put in the windows xp disk and tried to re-install windows xp back onto my system but the windows setup failed to load also.

one time i had a message showing that i had some boot file corrupt :S

Can someone help me get around this error and get my windows xp back up and running please.

i will be very greatfull

Answer:Windows Xp Fails To Load.

I have this issue every once and a while as well and can't seem to figure the problem out.
My issue is a little different though, my PC will lock up, and when I restart it'll load Windows, and then just go to a black screen like you described.
If I let it sit for 10-15 minutes it'll BSOD and restart and work fine though.
Have you tried letting it sit?

Start the computer. The computer begins processing a set of instructions known as the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS). What is displayed depends on the BIOS manufacturer. Some computers display a progress bar that refers to the word BIOS, while others may not display any indication that this process is happening. As soon as the BIOS has finished loading, begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. Continue to do so until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears. NOTE: If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers will generate a "keyboard error" message. Please restart and try again. Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, scroll to and select create boot log. Then Start Normally...after the boot fails follow the advice above and choose Safe Mode Have a look at th bootlog.txt file on the C drive the final entries are nomally the fail. Hello. I have Red Hat Linux and Windows XP on different partitions on my Dell. I went to login to Windows the other day, and after I selected Windows it gave me a black screen saying windows failed to load. It had options of starting in safe mode, starting from last known configuration or starting normally. Regardless of what you press, the Windows XP screen comes up like its loading, then after a few second it goes to a blue screen saying unmountable_boot_volume. It says to remove any hardware that I recently added, but I haven't added anything. My sister had been using the computer while I was gone, and I don't know what to do now. Any ideas? Thanks.

Answer:Windows xp fails to load

Okay first, what is the exact spelling of the file it is failing to load, and what is the exact text of the error message? At what point in the installation process does this happen.

One reason installs fail is because the CD is scratched, dirty, etc... Sometimes making a copy of a damaged disk will work. The copying process "fixes" the bad data before it gets burned to the new disk.

Also, a bad optical drive will mis-read and corrupt data during an install. Changing out the optical drive might fix the problem.

the pc worked fine for about a month. i loaded all my programs and was sorting/ filing/ editing digital data (lots and lots of digital photo files) , left the pc, it went to hibernate, now it keeps looping trying to load xp.
i've tryed

1- at the dos prompt chose load in safe mode; failed to load and went back to dos screen saying there was a problem chose what to do next

2- chose to use last known good setting; failed to load and went back to dos screen

3- chose to use safe with prompt; failed to load and went back to dos screen

4- chose to use safe with networking; failed to load and went back to dos screen

5- inserted the recovery disc; failed to load and went back to dos screen

6- warm boot; failed to load and went to dos screen

7- cold boot; failed to load and went to dos screen

8- tried warm and cold boot without the recovery disc; failed to load

now it is setting there looping all through the same routine trying to load windows in normal mode.

the only way i can stop it is to cut the power to the pc by turning it off.

F9 will take me to the blue boot setup screen but none of the boot options work (goes through the same loop)

Let me begin by stating that I will donate $100 to Tech Support Guy if someone is able to *successfully* solve my problem.

First, some general info on my computer:
* Dell Latitude D510 Notebook (purcahsed in January of 2006)
* Windows XP Home - SP2
* 80GB 5400RPM HDD
* Pentium M Dothan, 1.86GHZ, 2 MEGB

Second, a little background on the events leading to the problem:
* I'm a heavy Internet user (about 16 hours per day of blogging, social media stuff, web based email, downloading music, files, video, etc.). Typically, I leave my computer continually running for several days at a time. Last week (Jan 08), I rebooted my system after about 3 days of continual use and this is what happened, and is still happening (step by step guide)

1) I turn on my computer and the computer begins to boot normally, from the Dell logo to the Windows XP logo
2) Once the Blue Welcome Screen appears, I see the following error message:
WLKeeper.exe - Application Error The Instruction at "0x00401490" referenced memory at "0x9a3412be". The memory could not be "written".
3) If I click cancel, the OS continues to load, even producing Microsoft's trademark startup sound and displaying the default background screen of the fields and mountains against a blue sky.
4) However, as the programs are loading and the explorer bar at the bottom of the screen loads, I receive a second error message stating:

Hi, Everyone,
How are you? I have been running Windows XP, Service Pack 2 on my computer for several years now. Last night, my computer froze for the first time in over half a year, so I restarted it and nothing seemed to be wrong. After about 15 minutes of using it, it froze once again. After restarting it the second time, however, it showed me the screen that says I could choose to restart in the "Last Known Good Configuration," in "Safe Mode, or to "Start Windows Normally."

If I chose the non-Safe Mode options, it would start to load Windows (with the Windows XP screen and the blue bar running under it), and then restart itself when the blue bar runs for the third time. For the Safe Mode options, it would load partway and then restart again.

Can I do something to fix this? Is this a hard drive problem? I tried unplugging everything except for my monitor and hard drive, but the problem was still there. Please help! I am using a library computer to type this and will wait until I can find a resolution, then go home and try it.

Thank you in advance!

I have a very odd problem at the moment. As of recently my desktop fails to load anything except the wallpaper on any user.

I've recently acquired a Trojan.Vundo.H and have been attempting to get rid of it. I found it with Malwarebytes anti Mal-ware. I've attempted numerous times at deleting the files in both safe mode and regular mode, but the virus still comes back.

I then attempted to locate the files manually. There was a single .dll file and then three registry entries (I would post then but I'm in the middle of a full scan on my computer that is infect so I shall do so when that is finished). In either mode and using cmd all were unable to be deleted. I then ran a virus scan using Avira and it found the .dll file but was unable to delete it. After a system restart I went to check to see if the file was still there and it was. However to my surprise, Avira detected the infected .dll file and was able to remove it. I then rebooted my machine and noticed the .dll was gone but that still left the three registry entries. I began to scan with Malwarebytes anti Mal-ware and it said the .dll was still there, although after manually looking for the file I could not locate it.

So then I began to attempt to delete the three registry entries. I tried going in safe mode, editing the permissions, anything I could find online to do, but nothing worked. I then backed up the registry and set a system restore and then ran ccleaner.

After the restart is whe... Read more

Hello again - this place worked last time so I thought I would try again... here is my problem:I use a computer designed for a visually impaired person. (The only other error message I remember is something about not being able to "load a 16-bit program" or something like that.)Things I have noticed: a Sheild (looks like a MS Update shield) which says 'Downloading Updates 0%' (but I don't think it's really doing that) that pops up when I start Windows, JAWS runs fine, but trying to open OPEN BOOK takes a LONG time to load (and I get the error message about the speech synthesizer not being able to load) - if I try to load OPENBOOK while Norton Protection Center is checking the system this REALLY bogs down. Answer:dwwin.exe fails to load??

As an initial step,go into msconfig/Start up and uncheck everything except the Firewall/AV.

If the error stops, then one of those start up programs is the cause.

If that doesn`t work -

See Norms posts here - HERE

"Had this problem, here is what I did:

Open regedit, go to:

processor priority.

start /belownormal c:\windows\system32\Grxp4exe.exe /init

I'm trying to fix a Lenovo 3000 N200 Model 0769 with a pentium dual core processor, a WD 160Gb #WD1600BEVS-08RS hard drive, and 2Gb RAM running Windows XP sp3 Home.  Could not find the restore CD, but have a copy of the OS on CD.A few months ago, the system crashed while I was using the computer and would begin this endless loop of trying to restart windows and then failing.  I suspected a failing HD, so I tried to put the drive into an external enclosure and plug it into my desktop PC.  It was not seeing the drive, so I bought a tested one (same model) from the internet.  Later, I was successful in bringing the OS back up again and immediately began copying files to a backup drive.  Every so often, while copying image and video files, the OS would crash again and I'd restart successfully. I suspected corrupt files or bad HD sectors.  Eventually, it quit loading Windows altogether.  I received the purchased replacement drive, however, when I plugged it into the laptop, it didn't seem to find it and I guessed that it had not been formatted yet.I took it into work where we publish a software database and plugged it into the Windows 7's mother board SATA plug and successfully detected and formatted the new drive.  I also plugged in the "failing" drive, which it detected  and ran a scan on it, automatically detecting and fixing any bad sectors.  It seemed to complete successfully and when I plugged th...

My copy of Flight Sim loaded OK under Win XP but under Win 7 in same machine doesn't. Other software loads as it should but the Flight Sim DVD just spins, with the read light and the HD light flickering away indefinitely. I have tried manually via two set-up files I can see in Explorer but to no avail. The DVD looks OK physically. Anyone suggest what else I can try.

Answer:Flight Sim X fails to load

Not sure if this is your problem, but it could well be. FSX can only be used on one machine, it checks its self with Microsoft. A new OS may be giving the wrong info. In which case you might need to contact Microsoft by phone. You may find more info at the following forums:- click here click hereI used to use FS9 but found my machine would not cope with FSX, so gave up on it. When I buy another PC then I might try again.FSXs programming was too far ahead of hardware capabilities at the time.

I just recently gave my computer I had to my 15 year old sister. Iv'e had this system for four years and this has never happened to me before. The day after I gave it to her, she told me that it would not load. It gets all the way to the windows XP loading screen with the small green dots moving at the bottom then the dots just stop moving. The hard drive light is still lit up like its doing something but after an hour or so of leaving it on like that it was still frozen. I was able to load it up in safe mode and remove any adware/spyware on it and get a hijack this log. I'm not sure what it is she does on it but in all the time iv'e had the machine its never done this before.

My formerly cool computer continues to tick me off! I've been having a hardware problem, which I've traced to the video card slot, and am currently troubleshooting. The problem will cause my computer to completely fail to start - BIOS codes and all that. Working on it though, this isn't my question.

An unrelated problem has cropped up, though, perhaps related to problems I posted earlier...

Usually (but not always) after reboot, I'll get an error that msgina.dll failed to load. It suggests copying over a new one. I've done that, and it still fails to load on the first cold boot, but loads on reboot.

Anybody here seen this before, and can offer suggestions?

(on a side note, what do you use - besides an eraser - to clean the contacts on your AGP or PCI boards?)

Answer:msgina.dll fails to load

The file has something to do with Winlogon. Look HERE for some info on this. Also, a search of MSGINA on GOOGLE provided a wealth of info on why you are having your problem.

To clean contacts, I use Ethanol obtainable from a electronics shop, maybe Radio Shack It's the oils from your hands etc etc that can cause contacts to erode.

Part of my installation process checks if .Net Framework 2

There are 3 XP machines that it Fails.

The installation in successful. The application fails to load.

I then built the application on an XP machine and was able to install and run the application on both Vista and other XP machines.

It still fails on the original 3 XP machines.

For the last 2 days I cannot get my Youtube channel to load properly. It seems to stick on something called "". Is anyone else having this trouble at the moment?

As 67 people have looked at this but not one has replied, even to tell me that I'm an idiot, I feel rather ignored on what is my first outing on this forum. Perhaps my question is too banal.

Anyway, in the hope of receiving some sort of response here's a more detailed description of the problem:

I use Firefox with Noscript and Ad Block Plus.

I have a 3 mobile broadband connection (which has worked well enough since I got it) and before Friday I had no problems with Youtube.

When I try to load my channel on Youtube everything zips along nicely until it comes to "transferring data from". Then it just hangs. And Hangs. I have left it for 40 minutes or so and nothing has moved.

If I selectively disable "" in Noscript everything loads but there is no video to play.

Evidently is a perennial nuisance because it is mentioned in many other forums. Solutions suggested include putting extra lines in the hosts file (tried it. No good). Removing lines from the host file (couldn't because the line was not there) and changing DNS server.

Does anyone here have any new wheeze to suggest?

Apologies if this is in the wrong section, I am new here.

In fact, perhaps there should be a section just for and its attendant miseries.... Read more

WIN 7 X 64 fails when trying to load MS updates. I see lots of users have the same problem and have tried many of the suggestions that I found on the forum. I have Malwarebytes and MS essentials installed.

Security updates for MS.NET are successful as are Definitions for MSE, the Bing Bar updates and even updates for Office 2010 (even though it is not loaded on my computer) but none of the Security Updates for Win7 x64 based systems will load. Every bootup for weeks it says ? you have 37-40 updates? If I tell it not to update, sometimes, somehow, it does it any way and in the middle of my word processing a box pops up that is counting down to a reboot. If I don?t walk away it just shuts down in the middle of my typing.

If I ignore the ?updates available? it changes my log off box from ?shut down? to ?load updates and shut down?. If I don?t pay close attention and change the default back to ?shut down? each time I get stuck loading all the same updates that didn?t load the day before. Dirty pool.

Of course if I tell it to load updates it will finish and then wants to shut down. During shut down it spends a very long time loading ?definitions?? Then when I reboot it spends even longer trying to load updates. I must walk away. This ties my computer up for a very long time and then always has to run ?start up repair? to get the PC to boot after loading updates. I walk away again. Every once in a while start up repair fails and the only way to use my co... Read more

Ill try to make a long story short. Bought a Dell Precision 470 that was two years old from my ex boss. I ran the computer the whole time and it never once gave me a single problem. Upon receiving the computer i found that he ran a few registry deleting programs and because i know he doesn't know how to do anything i feared he did something wrong.

I in turn decided to format the computer. I am running a RAID 1 set-up (mirror) on two 250GB drives. I format the raid array first and rebuild the array then install OS which involves obviously formatting the hard drive and then install drivers reboot then what software pleases me.

The software i run is pretty basic, office 2003, illustrator, photoshop, itunes, mozilla, norton and a software and driver for my business which happens to be sign making. Now the only software thats different on there is the signmaking stuff. We use to run a Prog called signlab and now i use something else. apart from that the general use of the computer is about the same as it was the two years previous.

Every 4-6 weeks the computer decides to stop loading. Always after being shut down normal and properly. It will get to the Windows preloader screen where the three boxes just sit there and slide back and forth over and over essentially until i turn the box off. I can't for the life of me figure this out. the hard drive and information is completely in tact, what seems to be missing is the os software. for the longest time i was not able to g... Read more

I just came home for christmas and my parents showed me that their computer is failing to boot.

It posts normally, runs the windows splash screen, and then comes up to a black screen with a mouse cursor and hourglass, then 30 seconds later to just a mouse cursor - it can sit for an hour and never loads anything else. In safe mode, any type, it does the same thing but with the version number across the top and 'safe mode' in each corner.

In any mode there is no taskbar and no response from the start button, right clicking or ctrl+alt+del

I have tried, after making a backup of course, replacing explorer.exe and taskman.exe as well as the entire system and system32 folders(except config in system32 which is protected). I have loaded the hard drive in my own computer and it does the same thing. I ran scandisk on it while it was in my windows pc and it didn't tell me anything. The drive is divided into 3 partitions and I only scanned the C drive.

This is my parents computer and I do not have a hardware listing, it is relatively new but not high end, I can look for model numbers on anything that is relevant.

I have slaved the drive into another computer and backed up any data, I am just trying to avoid a full reformat and having to reinstall all the software.

any thoughts?

An application has made an attempt to load the C Runtime library incorrectly.
Please contact the applicant's support team for more information.
I tried to activate the iTunes.exe file but received the message:-
iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes

I uninstalled the software and reinstalled it from the installation CD but still received the same message but with the following additional message:-
The file iTunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes
As the iTunes software was completely uninstalled, including the iTunes library file, and completely reinstalled from disc I am at a loss to understand what's happening. Can anybody help please?

The CD version is probably out of date. iTunes is regularly updated and a recent update has caused problems for some. You should download and install it from here.

Over the past few days I have noticed that one particular website,, will not load for me on my main desktop computer no matter which browser I attempt to access the website on.
I have tried IE (Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage), Google Chrome (Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to, Firefox (The connection has timed out), or Opera (Could not connect to remote server). Every other website I surf to loads up with no problem.
Thinking that Mypoints was down for a couple of days I thought nothing of it at first. When I couldn't access the site for a third day then I began to think something was wrong.
I then attempted to access the site using my ipad and was able to do so with no problem. I am using a Belkin N Wireless router for my internet access with my desktop being directly connected. My ipad uses the same network for internet access. For this reason I'm guessing there is something on my desktop computer preventing me from accessing for whatever reason.
Any help you can give me to solve this problem will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help.

I have Win XP, lots of memory no new programs but recently XP goes into the dos mode when opening and asks to push F1 or F2 for general set up.

I push F2 and my date and time are whey off like 2002 - (which changes everything globally) so I have to reset that each time I reboot.

Ive got virus checks and firewall so I cant see it being a virus.

any ideas?

My son was using my laptop and now it won't load completely. I don't know what he did.....I can get it to open to my desktop but when I click on icons they don't open and the cursor turns in to a blue spinning wheel but still doesn't open. ..and it takes way longer for it to reboot then it did before

If it does work (about 1 in 5 tries) the PC runs fine, but there are serious boot problems. Sometimes it will get to the log-on screen, then if you try to log-on it hesitates, then re-starts. What the hell??! It boots fine in safe mode. I've done a virus check and scan disk but to no avail.

Does any one have any ideas? Is it a hard-drive error?

Thanks :)

Answer:windows won't load properly!!

disconnect for the the internet, run msconfig and after recording which startups are enebled, disable all of them, turn off computer, switch on computer again. If all starts nicely then you know that it is one of the start ups and your search starts amonst those startups for the culprit.

I'm having a problem when booting up Windows 7. I load it up and once it is passed the Microsoft sign and loading up the login screen there is no interface. It looks like it should be the correct screen (blue/whiteish in colour) and the cursor is there but it is very large, there is no way to navigate this. No success loading from Last Good Known Configuration or Safe Mode with Networking.

I installed drivers for a nVidia graphics card yesterday so I'm assuming this is the problem.

Any help would be great, thanks.

Recently upgraded to Win 7 Pro on an HP Compaq 610 (Intel Core Duo, 3Gig RAM). Running IE 8. Loaded all plugins: Flash, Shockwave, Java, etc. All driver updates from HP, etc. and IE 9 upgrade won't take. Note the attached screenshot. What should I try next?

Answer:YouTube URL won't load properly in IE

Please explain how the FF screenshot applies to not being able to upgrade to IE9.
What happens when you attempt the upgrade?
