Preferred Solution: Can Comodo Firewall protect against signed malware?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi:

I have two computers at home. One had a winantispyware malware infection and I was able to resolve the problem with the help of Teacup61 on the HijackThis Forum. One of the firewalls she suggested that I install and she used was Comodo. I decided to heed her advice and first installed it on the other computer (which I use a lot for my business). When I was preparing to download the free firewall from Comodo it asked if I also wanted to download their anti-malware along with it, so I said yes. After installing the software, it scanned the computer with its anti-malware and found 32 infections which I told it to delete. It then asked that I allow it to reboot the computer. It had trouble booting so I did a cold boot. It goes to the Windows XP banner window, then the HP banner window, then to the second XP screen and asks me to login under Administrator. I hit the login icon and it brings up my wallpaper but goes no further. Obviously I am entering this topic on my previously infected computer since the other one won't boot. Any suggestions? I'm more or less in a panic! Thanks.

"Chromiuminstaller" is an installer for Google Chrome. Do you have hardened mode enabled? If so, then it might just be a false positive.

Hi.

I'm upgrading all my security to your recommendations and have installed the Comodo Internet Security app. I like it so far.

My question which may be dumb, is does it include the same functionality as Comodo BOClean Anti-Malware or do I need to install that (or similar) as well?

Thanks,

Jeff

Re: Does Comodo Internet Security have the Comodo BO Clean anti-malware functionality

No you do not get BO Clean protection in CIS. You do get protection like that if you purchase the Pro version. See: http://personalfirewall.comodo.com/index.html

Also remember that BO Clean has no scanning feature.

Im just wondering if an antivirus is actually needed with comodo firewall.
As i understand it comodo firewall checks files as they are downloaded etc and im assuming it would pick up malware on its own therefore maybe i would not need to run the comodo av or any other av at all.

Any thoughts on this please.?

Thanks.

I recently installed the freeware firewall of Comodo in my Win7 PC. However I am not too happy because of some problems and would like to remove Comodo and simply use the firewall that came with Win7 (I am using the Home Edition of Win7).

I had a hitch that probably both firewalls are somehow enabled on my Win7 PC. I went into Control Panel and turned off the bult-in Firewall of Win7 but it now show the message (or maybe the icon) that firewall is not present (EVEN though I already have COMODO installed). SO that's the first question/confusion I am facing.

The 2nd question is that how do I uninstall COMODO in a very clean manner. I remember froma long time back when I tried to remove Norton Anti-Virus and it simply refused to un-install. Will I face a similar problem when trying to remove Comodo.

Last but not least, will be very thankful if you can share tips regarding what settings I need to put in place for the Windows Firewall to work effectively. Based on what I have read, the default configuration of Win7's firewall has a lot of room for improvement and I would like it to be as secure as my favourite firewall (which I use on XP) i.e. Sygate.

Thanks in advance for your kind help.

Should i disable the antivirus firewall and enable Comodo Firewall? (it's not Comodo IS, just free firewall).

Or should i use KIS firewall alone?

Answer:Disable Kaspersky Firewall and enable Comodo Firewall

KIS alone for sure. Its maybe the best firewall out there in any security suit u can find. turn on application control and set it to untrusted and u are safe to go.

Firewall Issue(s) - Windows XP Professional & Comodo Firewall Pro

Friday/December 3rd 2007: This morning I was looking at the features and settings of Comodo Firewall Pro Version 2.4.19.185. Accidentally I clicked ‘no’ when a learned prompt came up asking if I wanted to allow Avast Free Edition to connect to the net. I believe it was Avast. Anyway I figured I would uninstall and reinstall to correct the settings, no big deal, or so I thought.

When windows started back up and gave me the security alert prompt (Control Panel > Windows Security Center) and I figured no big deal. However it was saying “Comodo is not installed bla bla bla.” When I enabled XP Professional’s firewall, window’s message said, “Comodo was working, etc.”

Windows Firewall worked within normal parameters as far as I could tell otherwise. I will try to recreate issue buy uninstalling and will post detailed results later with screen shots.

Sunday/December 9th 2007: I tried recreating the incident and my results confuse me. Windows XP Professional Security Center Says “Comodo Firewall not on bla, bla, bla.” However, when I turn on XP’s firewall it says “Windows Firewall is on bla, bla, bla. So why when I turn off windows firewall does it say that “Comodo” not windows firewall is disabled?

How would I correct this?

Thank you.

Hi and thanks for viewing this thread. I hope you can help me!
I have a few questions which I will number and I hope you can answer them in detail, as it would be much appreciated. (I am using W7 64-Bit)

1. Is Comodo Firewall reccomended? (I am using it currently but am unsure, as I have heard about some scandals pertaining to Comodo, but wanted to get your opinions) and what are other, perhaps better alternatives if there are any?

2. Should I run Comodo Firewall or any other firewall with Windows Firewall on?

3. Why does Windows Firewall have a "Domain Profile" with the firewall turned on, but a "Private Profile" with it turned off?

4. What is the advantage of using the option to join Comodo's custom DNS server when installing the firewall?

Any other insight or help you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks so much for your help!

Answer:Comodo Firewall v7 vs. ZoneAlarm Pro Firewall 2015 v13

The best protection is based upon the user's habits, so both could give some users the same protection level.
You could not apply this to all users since some are reckless and neither one would be able to provide protection.

Comodo Firewall has HIPS which is more likely to flag more false positives which most inexperienced users would not know how to deal with. Of coarse if the user utilizes UAC, then HIPS would not be needed.

ZoneAlarm is more user friendly, uses Behavior protection instead of HIPS which will not flag as many false positives.
ZoneAlarm is more compatible with programs.

For myself Windows Firewall provides excellent protection along with UAC with no issues at all.

Just a note: Never trust review sites or testing sites, they will install a product use it for about an hour or less then write a review.
You need to test a product for at least 30 days in order to see how it works and if any potential problems occur.

Enjoy!!

I'd like to get opinions on which free firewall is better--Comodo or PC Tools. I have Comodo on my Vista laptop and PC Tools on my XP desktop and it seems to me that PC Tools is easier to understand. I'm wondering, though, if there is some dominating reason to use one or the other. Thanks for your thoughts.

Answer:Comodo Firewall vs. PC Tools Firewall

I've not used Comodo's firewall but believe it is considered one of the most(if not the most) effective from a security stand point. PC Tools firewall is considered one of the easiest to use and quite effective. I've used the PC Tools firewall and liked it.

One complaint about Comodo's firewall seen quite often is it's configuration complexity. A complaint I've seen numerous times(in the past) about PC Tools firewall is, when booting, a connection will be established before the firewall is up and running.

Given that the firewalls are already installed, working properly and not interfering with other installed applications, in the case of Comodo I would be inclined to spend more time learning how to configure it before going through an uninstall, a proper clean up procedure and then installing a different firewall.

When switching from one resident security application to another, if the sequence of steps for removal of the first security application aren't followed correctly, problems can and many times do crop up when the second security application is installed.

Computer and software industry maker HP is in the process of notifying customers about a seemingly harmless security incident in 2010 that nevertheless could prove expensive for the company to fix and present unique support problems for users of its older products.

Earlier this week, HP quietly produced several client advisories stating that on Oct. 21, 2014 it plans to revoke a digital certificate the company previously used to cryptographically sign software components that ship with many of its older products. HP said it was taking this step out of an abundance of caution because it discovered that the certificate had mistakenly been used to sign malicious software way back in May 2010.

Code-signing is a practice intended to give computer users and network administrators additional confidence about the integrity and security of a file or program. Consequently, private digital certificates that major software vendors use to sign code are highly prized by attackers, because they allow those attackers to better disguise malware as legitimate software.

For example, the infamous Stuxnet malware ? apparently created as a state-sponsored project to delay Iran?s nuclear ambitions ? contained several components that were digitally signed with certificates that had been stolen from well-known companies. In previous cases where a company?s private digital certificates have been used to sign malware, the incidents were preceded by highly targeted attacks aimed at stealing t... Read more

F-Secure said:

Certificates and CAs continue to be a hot topic (think Stuxnet, Duqu, Comodogate, Diginotar, et cetera).

Every now and then we run into malware that has been signed with a code signing certificate. This is problematic, as an unsigned Windows application will produce a warning to the end user if he downloads it from the web ? signed applications won't do this. Also some security systems might trust signed code more than unsigned code.

In some of these cases, the certificate has been created by the criminals just for the purpose for signing malware. In other cases they steal code signing certificates (and their passphrases) so they can sign code as someone else.

We recently found a sample signed with a stolen certificate. The file properties looked like this:

Publisher: Adobe Systems Incorporated
Copyright: Copyright (C) 2010
Product: Adobe Systems Apps
File version: 8, 0, 12, 78
Comments: Product of Adobe Systems

And the signing info was:

Signer: anjungnet.mardi.gov.my
Digisign Server ID (Enrich)
GTE CyberTrust Global Root
Signing date: 5:36 24/08/2011

Turns out mardi.gov.my is part of the Government of Malaysia: Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute. According the information we received from the Malaysian authorities, this certificate has been stolen "quite some time ago".

The malware itself has been spread via malicious PDF files that drop it after exploiting Adobe Reader 8. The malware downloads additional mali... Read more

Answer:Has anyone used Comodo's new firewall?

Before Win/7, I was a strong advocate of 3rd party firewalls and Comodo was my pick. It gave good control

Now that I've moved to Win/7 which has a much better default FW, I no longer advocate any 3rd party FB.
The Windows version is sufficient and there's no conflict or maintenance issues to be configured.

Question: Comodo firewall

XP Pro, SP3, current updates, Comodo firewall, A^2 AV, Lenovo T60p Dual CPU - 2.1 ghz, 15.6" screen, 3 Gb computer memory, 3 cent operator memory

Someone here recommended Comodo firewall. Assuming that someone knows about it I have a question.

I installed it as firewall only - without Defense+. But I'm always getting pop-ups about my software trying to connect out and have NEVER had a pop-up about incoming attempts. And the firewall events summary always says there have been no intrusions blocked.

Why does it look like Comodo is exactly backwards to a firewall - going on about internals and ignoring externals?

Answer:Comodo firewall

I use Comodo and I prefer it this way over the earlier Windows firewall that would let any program send whatever it wanted to where ever it wanted.
What you are seeing is the Firewall "learning" what you, as the user, is teaching it about what to allow and trust.

Which of the Comodo firewalls do you find better? Version 2.4 or 3.0? Also, is 2.4 still available for download?

Hi Alendar,Old versions of Comodo firewalls are available here:http://www.filehippo.com/download_comodo/2252/However unless you have some particular reason for using one, you would be far better installing the latest version direct from Comodo:http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/During installation you can choose whether to install the HIPS and Antivirus as well, but I would not be without the HIPS Defense+ unless you already have one that you wish to continue with. The Antivirus is quite new but is making rapid progress and has just been included in VirusTotal.

Comodo 3.5 firewall is one of the best available and very light on system resources. It works well with Avira but it's outbound protection needs it's HIPS component Defense+, so you would be better not to have teatimer enabled as well.

Can someone tell me what the heck "System Time Privileges" are and whether it's safe to let a program get them?Another alert that has popped up on several programs says --> abcxyz.exe is attempting to access a2service.exe and tells me that --> this will allow the parent application to fully control the target. [EDIT: Please note that 'abcxyz.exe' is NOT the actual name of the files that I am talking about here.]I know what the abcxyz.exe programs are BUT I don't understand why they would want to access the a2services.exe thingy. I think that the a2 thing is part of my anti-dialer program. Thanks for any insight into this stuff.Wendy

Hi, just removed the best firewall I've ever had, Kerio Sunbelt, as it's driver kept causing the blue screen shutdown when on the net. Not always but usually every other day. So I installed Comodo Firewall. After installation, I clicked on the help button to check out how it works. After 4 attempts, and timing out everytime, I gave up. Now the major use of a firewall that I want is to determine what programs on my PC can or cannot have access to the net. On Sunbelt, all the applicable programs were listed and when opening any program a pop-up would ask me to allow, or deny, and it would remember. On the list you could manually edit it to allow, deny or ask. Brilliant and so simple. So, from what I'd read about Comodo, there was a training mode which I assumed would be like the Sunbelt pop-ups. Apparently not. Now I don't want any programs on my PC accessing the net to keep telling me there's updates or subscription versions available, etc. I will update, but only when I've checked on the net that the bugs have been removed. So many bugs in updates of Flash for example. Anyway I opened a program that I knew would try to access the net and there was no pop-up, and the program opened and all sorts of updates and stuff came up on the screen. Rats. So I found a list of programs in Comodo, which took me a while to find, and on that specific program I right clicked and options appeared. There was no option to allow or deny, just kill process. As I could... Read more

Answer:Comodo Firewall help

No need for reply. This Comodo cr+p (in my opimion) is going. Since installing this firewall yesterday, I've experienced the following:
1. My PC takes on average 9 minutes to start up.
2. My mouse doesn't work at start-up - I have to un-plug and re-plug it to get it working.
3. On 2 occasions the bottom system bar and screen icons disappear and PC locks up, requiring a re-start.
4. Tried to uninstall an unwanted program - CL Eye Driver 2.80mb. After 11 minutes the progress bar was two
thirds across and PC locked up. Had to re-start.
5. Keep getting Windows error pop-up. "LivePC Support component has encountered a problem and needs to
close. Send error report?"
Will be checking forums to find a better firewall.

Question: Comodo firewall?

Hi, was just wondering if Comodo firewall will work well with AVG 2012 (free). Also, is this the official comodo website? http://personalfirewall.comodo.com/

Oh and, is comodo firewall a good choice? Or does anyone else have any other suggestions, thanks.

Answer:Comodo firewall?

I am not a fan of AVG free anti virus. I have used most of the free ones, and I had more problems with AVG than any other. It is notoriously resource hungry (my computer was very sluggish when I had it installed), had mediocre detection rates and many false positives. I understand AVG have tried to address some of these issues with their latest version but, far better, in my view, to go for a tried, tested and trusted anti virus, and my recommendation is Avast free, which I have used for some time now and have been very happy with.

As for Comodo firewall, it is an outstanding choice. I use it with Avast and have had no infections since installation. Its excellent Defense+ malware prevention system also gives additional protection against any nasties. If you need help with installation and setup, Gizmo's freeware have a useful guide: http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/how-install-comodo-firewall.htm

Your link is indeed the official Comodo website, but to avoid any confusion with their paid products, you may wish to use this link: http://www.comodo.com/home/internet-security/firewall.php

Good luck.

I've been using this firewall for a few months now. Question: Comodo Firewall

Hi all, I have the free Comodo firewall and have been mostly happy with it. Usually when it's normal when you run the cursor over the icon it says it is running and protecting or something to that effect. The last couple of days it says "Comodo firewall is being initialized....." Does that mean it's trying to update? I've restarted the computer a couple of times but it still says the same. I worry that it is not protecting correctly. Has anybody else seen this? Thanks

Answer:Comodo Firewall

Hi lazlopitt, Comodo firewall is active from when you turn the computer on. So you are protected, absolutely. As for the initializing you can stop it. Right click the tray icon, altering or even touching the Alert Level bar. This causes the mouse-over message to be corrected. This is a temporary fix. It may have some thing to do with Avast but not necessarily. Anyway Comodo says it will be fixed in the next version.

If you want something that covers your entire network you could look into ipCop, smoothwall, Endian, Untangle, or any number of similar firewall distributions. If you are only worried about your local system, then I would say Comodo is more than adequate for that role.

I installed Comodo free Firewall about a week ago and I've been battling with it ever since. The multitude of impenetrable pop-ups mostly left me completely baffled. Because of the computer jargon they are displayed in, I don't know-and can't fathom out-what I'm allowing or blocking and it's all too easy to block something that should be allowed. Today was the last straw, while trying to install ATI Catalyst, I was bombarded with pop-ups galore and, each time I clicked allow the damn thing returned and stopped the installation. I emphasise that this was not malicious and yet it wouldn't recognise "allow". In the end I gave up and admitted defeat! I'm uninstalling it today, so can anyone recommend another...much less fussy free Firewall, I'm toying with Ashampoo.

The i installed COMODO firewall pro so do i need avast and SUPERAntiSpyware running anymore?

Answer:COMODO firewall pro

Hi mrjay100,

Welcome to Vista Forums.

The general rule is that you do not want to have more than one antivirus or firewall program installed on your computer. One of each is fine. Anti spyware/adware programs like Windows Defender, SUPERAntiSpyware, Spybot Search & Destroy, etc. usually do not have a problem with more than one of them installed and running. In fact you should be using more than one since no one program can completely protect you from these malwares.

I use COMODO Firewall Pro, Avast antivirus, Windows Defender, and Spybot Search & Destoy. All running all the time in the background monitoring away with no problems between them.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Question: Comodo Firewall

As some people on Techspot, occasionally complain that the ubiquitous Zone Alarm
is less than perfect,I decided to check out Comodo firewall. Here are my random comments -

The good points :

1.It`s free.

2.It installs easily on my P.3 XP SP1 machine.

3.Appears to use even fewer resources than ZA.

4.The default settings seem about right, except for the Application behaviour monitoring,
which could be turned off

5.Has plenty of paranoia settings, for those who are that way inclined.

6.I like it better than ZA or Kerio and will to continue to use it,until blows up my system for no apparent reason.

The not so good points :

1.It`s more complicated than ZA,so for a complete novice,it could be offered as
a possible alternative to ZA,rather than a definite replacement.

2.It`s so "quiet",it`s sometimes difficult to know if it`s actually working at all (it is).

3.The developers still haven`t paid me yet.

Answer:Comodo Firewall

dll validation too

one aspect I like is that when a DLL is loaded with network access, the firewall
can bless or deny access to the net at this level. This means you get a chance
to see what svchost (and other *.exe programs) is loading for fine-grain
control. You can set an option to LEARN the components and then after a couple
of days, revert to monitor components=ON
(so clearly, I like 4.the Application behaviour monitoring)

the logging is interesting, in that it reports the parent of the application,
the application itself, and the activity that was attempted. the classification of
Severe, High, Low risk is arbitrary, so don't get too alarmed at these.

the firewall comes PRE-CONFIGURED with not only reasonable defaults, but
it also is prepared to support a VPN connection;
allow IP/GRE {in,out}bound
the access to port 53 (ie: dns) is caught and if the app/dll is not totally mapped
by the firewall, it is rated Severe (or was it High) Risk. Heck, all URL translations
need port 53 so plan on setting it as ALLOW.

the other day, a web application had a link for email us and upon clicking,
my email program (Thunderbird) was launched; Comodo caught the action
and clearly showed the attempted SILENT invocation of Thunderbird.
Yea sure it had a window and I knew what/when and why, but if some
vile bugger was launched w/o a window I would have not known it unless
Comodo was there to show me {4. Application behaviour monitoring in effect }

Hi there,I wrote yesterday about some ongoing problems I have been having and was advised to download Avast home edition. This really helped speed things up a bit and it actually found over 10 trojans on my system (even though I have had Mcafee running for 2 years on here) which have subsequently been deleted. I have now also uninstalled Mcafee. The person that recommended Avast also said to download a good firewall as well. I remember that I disabled the Windows XP own firewall a while back as it was really slowing things down. I have looked on here and on your top 10 downloads is Comodo Firewall Pro. What I want to know is, is this the best free firewall out there and will I be fully protected? Will it slow things down? And also will it be compatible with Avast, as I find sometimes when you have 2 different security programmes running it can slow everything down. Any advice you can give me would be much appreciated. Thank you

Answer:Comodo Firewall Pro

I think it`s a matter of priorities with XP.If you want to keep Avast and let it run with nothing getting in the way, then it`s best not to install a firewall that has an anti-virus built in as part of the package.Unfortunately, Comodo Firewall Pro has just that and more besides. You can get round it, though, by installing an earlier version from Filehippo: click hereScroll down to version 2.4.18.184. It`s a perfectly good firewall but without the bells and whistles of the latest versions and runs very well with Avast on XP.

Question: Comodo Firewall

I run win XP (SP2) and installed Copmodo Personal Firewall from the October DVD edition of the magazine. All seemed well and it appeared to be working. However, when starting up the following day, all seemed normal until I tried to connect to the Internet (I use Firefox and Thunderbird). The system dialled up and then crashed. The "Blue Screen" flashed up with a note to check the hardware.I finally worked out what the problem was. It seems that Comodo was not recognising the graphics card (ATI Sapphire Radeon X800GT) as the icon was missing from the system tray. Using System Restore to go back immediately before the Comodo installation cured the problem. As an experiment I again tried installing Comodo with the same result. Any ideas what is happening other than a fault within the software of Comodo or the graphics card having a problem seeing the system?

Answer:Comodo Firewall

Try this, double click comodo icon on desktop, click security tab then double click on "scan for known application". After this has run close comodo window. Right click icon in system tray, highlight "personal firewall" and go to and click exit. This stops the firewall. To restart double click icon on desktop and click "show application window". Worth a try.

just a quick question about Comodo.
i've used it now for about 3 years,& so far no complaints.
i was a big Zone Alarm fan until version 5 sometime back which was a total disaster,so i searched for a new firewall,& Comodo got glowing reviews across the board,so i went with it,& like i say have no complaints.
my only query is,the thing never updates!
every other application i have ,anti-virus etc regulary updates its programs,& Comodo even has an 'updater' button in its layout, but every time i click on it,it comes back'no updates' i dont think i've had an update since i installed it!
does anybody else find this strange?
is the site still in buisness?
just wondering if i should keep it,or try something else.
thanks.

Answer:Comodo firewall

Can I ask what version you are using?. If you have used it for three years I suspect you are using v2.4 which was discontinued. The latest version is Comodo CIS v3.12.111745.360 which is a Security suite including Firewall and Anti-Virus. Here is a link to the excellent Comodo Forums where you can find the download links and also some excellent user advice. By the way it is still free and if you don't want to use the built in AV then just uncheck the AV box during the installation process. For the download link:https://forums.comodo.com/feedbackcommentsa...d-t45362.0.htmlThe main Forums link:https://forums.comodo.com/index.php

Question: Comodo Firewall

Tried the Comodo Free Firewall software on my laptop after reading great reviews on it today, and 2 thing stuck out right away. One, it seemed to add 3 or 4 extra icons or actual extensions of the program on my desktop, some virtual search function, another was a test of files(?), and it also had a small window in the upper right hand of the desktop screen with a status of the program that only went away if I opened a web page. Is all of this "normal?"

Second, during the install process it asked me to allow it to make changes to DNS servers, which is a bit beyond what I know. I did read the link that said what is this? And it seemed legit, so I allowed it. Soon thereafter my son tried to use our XBox that uses our home network to connect to. He was unable to connect to the network or internet, and I believe that this in some way was related to the DNS change that Comodo asked me to change. I could be wrong, but I think it's all related. Is what I described the normal process/end result of using Comodo Firewall? I went and uninstalled it once the XBox issue became known.

Answer:Comodo Firewall

Hello -
Did this fix your problem, or do you still need a bit of help.
Comodo has been known to be just a little bit strong for some systems, and it has clashed with some other programs.

Not knowing your system, Comodo Free Firewall may not be suited to your Antivirus or some other installed security program

Question: Comodo Firewall

I have tried and tried with Comodo Firewall and no matter what settings, training mode, etc. I cannot get it to allow another computer on my network to see me, see the shared printer or a shared folder.

I would like to have Comodo installed, but if I can't use my network, well, it's kind of useless. The second I unistall Comodo, the other computer can access the shared folder and printer no problem.

Can someone point me in the right direction as to how to configure Comodo to allow this other computer and sharing between them in Windows 7?

Thanks!

Answer:Comodo Firewall

are you able to see your network with comodo installed but using the lowest setting of protection?
if you can then its a matter of creating a rule allowing access...
if its not then its comodo itself the problem (firewalls really sink in into the internals of windows so with things on the inside changing its no wonder why it wont crash...)
if its the latter then you might have to look for another firewall or stick to the regular windows firewall (which is pretty good with the added vista firewall control program)

I had Comodo firewall on my Win7 laptop, and loved it. Trouble is, I went to Win8 desktop, after the laptop bit the dust. I downloaded what I thought was just the firewall, but it came with CIS too. I had too much trouble with CIS, as it was not very user friendly for me. It did have some great ideas, but the new sandbox is too difficult to figure out, even with some trying to help. So I decided to uninstall the CIS, and start fresh with just the firewall. The Comodo Firewall here x86 is not right for 64 bit machines. Does Comodo not have a regular firewall without the WHOLE CIS? If not, should I just go with Windows 8 firewall, or should I try another free firewall? I had Online Armor before, loved it on the XP, but it had trouble with Win7 for me. That is when I went to Comodo, was when I had the Win7. I do not have a wireless router, or any router, just the modem now. Once I went to Win8, my two year old Cisco router did not work right, and Cisco wanted money to give tech support. So I said to heck with them, and took it off. I don't mind going to a new Windows, but every time I do, it ends up being a hassle. http://personalfirewall.comodo.com/free-download.html

Did you try downloading from the 64Bit link here? http://www.majorgeeks.com/Comodo_Personal_Firewall__d5033.html

Question: Comodo firewall

Im using Comodo Firewall and as far as I can see its working fine. Im not very experienced so when a deny or allow query comes up I generally just allow it if I recognize the name of the programme. But Im not sure really. Also I got this one twice this week:C:\Programme files\Microsoft office\Office10\WINWORD.exe has tried to use the parent application msimn.exe through OLE Automation, which can be used to hijack other applications. WINWORD.exe may be using msimn.exe to conceal it's behaviour in an attempt to connect to the internet with Firefox.exeI didnt know what to do, so I denied it. Then i couldnt connect to any page, getting this message:The proxy server is refusing connectionsFirefox is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections. * Check the proxy settings to make sure that they are correct. * Contact your network administrator to make sure the proxy server is working.I dont even know what a proxy server is! Anyway i had to shut down and restart to be able to surf again. I find this very confusing, I havent even got Microsoft Office, but I do have Word, and I do use firefox. Can anyone give me guidance here? Thanks.h

Taking a look at Comodo's free Firewall and noticed they have a free Firewall+AV app which looks pretty good in the writeup. I'm aware Comodo Firewall is an excellent program, how about the AV part... Any happy users out there???

Raybro

Answer:Comodo Firewall +AV

I believe you get the AV too when you dowload the free firewall.
I chose only to install the Firewall.
I use another AV program.
I did read that the Comodo AV may not be as developed as some others such as Norton, Avast or AVG.
It might be worth a try and see if you like the Comodo AV and tell us how you like it.

I decided to install Comodo and become familiar with it. After installing (5.0.163652.1142) and using a couple guides to get setup, I seem to keep failing a particular test with their CLT tool.

Impersonation: ExplorerAsParent Vulnerable

Anyone have any tips on how I can correct that?

EDIT:
having found a brief sentence about it online, disabling the Sandbox part of Comodo gives me 340/340 now. Not sure why disabling that would bring "more" benefit according to the test.

Answer:Comodo Firewall help

Hello Ageeb, i do not know if this is the same source of what you found on line? just in case it is of help i will post it.

Quote:
Sandbox = disabled [CLT was not designed to be used in a sandbox. If CLT is sandboxed, it will generate erroneous results!]

Question: Comodo Firewall

I have been a happy user of Comodo for some time now, but this morning I was offered an update to Firewall Pro 3, which I OK'd. All seemed to be OK until the second restart, when I saw that my desktop had changed and my user account was missing, along with all my documents. OK, a swift system restore put me back to normal, so all is well.Have any other users had similar problems?Mike

Answer:Comodo Firewall

Lots of complaints about version 3 on Comodo's own forums.

Answer:Using Comodo Firewall Pro

Howdy PepeC,I see you decided against ZoneAlarm (re the PM) There is a video tutorial and text tutorial here:http://www.j2897.googlepages.com/comodofirewallproAdmittedly the rules and policies are a bit heavy handed but experiment and lower some of the alerting settings to your taste and you should be fine.Cheers, Lucent.

Question: comodo firewall

I have just replaced computer last week and was advised to use comodo firewall which I have downloaded. It is running windows Vista and on checking security center it states that Windows firewall and Comodo are both running , causing possible conflict.I have also installed Avast and wonder how these programmes will run with Windows Defender which I have temporarily shut down. Grateful for any advice given.

Answer:comodo firewall

windows defender is real time antispyware so i would re-enable that.have you tried manually turning off the windows firewall(control panel-windows firewall-turn windows firewall on or off)and then this thread will advise better than i can.click here
