Preferred Solution: HELP Apache Server installed without permission

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: HELP Apache Server installed without permission

click here for information on it. It should be in Add or Remove programs if it has been installed. Remove it from there

Hi Ewa,
It's just a example instead of your real ID.
The ID of yours {316CDED5-E4AE-4B15-9113-7055D84DCC97} must be in that list. Have you attempt to find it?
I have search it on my lab computer(Windows 8.1)as below:

help...ive installed an apache server on windows xp.its running fine when i goto to http://localhost.
problem is...when my friend adds my ip into ie he gets error message is this normal.???????
how can he log onto my server. also where do i put the files to serve to people. sorry about this im a total newbie to servers.

Answer:apache server

Well for one I need to know if you have a router at your house. If you do that is most likely the problem. If you have a router you have to foward port 80 to your webservers ip address.

The place where you put your files is the "C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache2/htdocs"

Hey, what's up yall. Well, here we go. I was able to use Apache and host my site a long time ago. That's when my older cousin helped me set it up. But now, I am not able to get the outside world to see the stuff I make and put on the server. I put the proper port for forwarding on my router. I am behind a Linksys WRT54G router. Also I edited the config files in the Apache root document. Mabey the info is incorrect? I checked with my ISP, (Cox Communications), and they gave me a list of ports that they blocked.

[0-65535] 136,137,138,139,*[80]*, 45, 111, 119, and 27374

THose are what the lady told me. Oh and by the way I been trying to resetup Apache and I forgot what to put for the Domain name and the Server name. If you could give me a good help step by step mabey?

Thank you for your help.

Question: Apache Web Server

1. I am running apache 2.2. Whenever i try to connect via my ip address to my website it takes me to login to the netgear router i have.
2. The IP Address assigned to my router is dynamic. If I change it to static IP will I have any problems with my internet or comcast?
3. I am guessing this problem could be solved by assigning my server a different IP, but is this possible while still being connected to the same router?
4. Are there any tutorials (or can you tell me) how I can set up apache to host my html website made in Adobe Dreamweaver.

Thanks

Answer:Apache Web Server

You need to use a different port for the Apache server.

If you want to run a site, just buy a domain and set it up on a free web host account. Running a site from your home is against the Comcast TOS. It can be done but it's probably not worth it.

Answer:Apache server issues

I have run into issues with ISP's blocking servers. I have had to run my apache servers on ports like 8080 and 8077 etc instead of port 80. Also instead of 443 I have had to use alternate port numbers as well when having FTP etc.Can you view your web page locally through the apache service at 127.0.0.1? If you can not view it locally, then there is a problem with it and it may be in the httpd.conf or local firewall blocking etc. If you can view it locally through browser thru apache service to local, then it is either ISP blocking it or you need to set up your port forwarding to allow passthrough of specific port traffic to a specific IP in your router. If your port forwarding is not configured and enabled then your router will not allow access to the apache server system from other computers.

Hello,

I recently installed Apache server 2.0.43. My computer which is currently running on Windows 98SE. I would like to start out saying that the Apache server does work. However, whenever I try to log off of a profile, I get a message saying that windows cannot shutdown and that I need to close Apache before it will. This is a problem in itself because in the Apache Service Monitor when I click 'stop' to stop apache, it doesn't do anything. Nor does it stop when I use the 'stop' in the Control Apache Server menu which is in the programs menu with the other things. The only way to get this program to stop is to Control Alt Delete the Service Monitor, the Apache program, and a program called Winoldap. Only then can I switch profiles. Sometimes when Winoldap goes down, it gives me an illegal operation message in USER.EXE. Any ideas what might be the issue here?

Thanks in advance.

Hi - I am trying to configure Apache on W7 machine, Please help in fixing a configuration issue.

- IIS is not installed in my system and Port 80 is free before installing Apache
- I installed Apache in "D:\Apache" and installation suceeded
- Apache startes and running fine. Now Port 80 is in use by httpd.exe
- http://localhost on IE shows Apache Index page which means Apache installation is proper and Apache is running fine
- I have configured my router for Port Forwarding to forward HTTP calls to local machine (192.168.1.2:80)
- Now while I am trying to access my Apache server page through Internet from another machine , page is not loading.
- Diagnostics shows that - website() is online but isn't responsding to connection attaempts
- I have tried disabling Firewall, adding Inbound/Outbound rules to ensure that port 80 is not locked.
- No anti virus.

- After this I tried installing ISS on this mahcine and configured everything. again http://localhost shows IIS page but when I am trying to aceess it through internet no response.

-> I did follow the same configuration steps on a System with VISTA and it works fine. I am able to view the web page through internet from any PC. But same software installed by following same procedure is not working on Windows7.

Please help me in resolving this issue.

I'm looking to start my Apache server just for fun but I don't know a lot about security and servers, is there much to do to harden the server?

Answer:Apache Server: Advice?

Apache by itself is pretty secure if you have a recent version. It is PHP and other active content things that provide the biggest security holes.

If you are planning on serving static webpages then you have little to worry about. If it is going to be something using PHP, MySQL or similar then you should watch what you install/do and always keep the software up to date.

I'm running an Apache server on an IBM PC. It's running behind a Zone Alarm firewall. Everything used to serve up fine. Recently, it has stopped serving htm/html pages. I'm still able to view the directory and open jpg files, however html pages won't come up. Now, when I'm at home within the LAN, everything works just fine, however when I'm on the WAN or outside of my network, html pages won't come up. I've rebooted the server, restarted the server, etc. But nothing works. I haven't changed any settings on the server. The only thing that has changed has been a Windows XP security update and the ZoneAlarm update. I checked Zone Alarm after the update and it appears that none of the settings have changed.

Has anyone experienced something similar with Apache? Any ideas of what's happening? Please help.

thanks in advance to everyone here at [H].

I downloaded a chat applet from www.morevil.com in hopes I could set it up on my Apache server. This of course did not work as planed, which the post makes it pretty obvious =P. Anyways, I put the chat in my server directory and try to load it up, and to my suprise it dosent work. So I looked around a bit, and put the chats .pl file in my servers cgi-bin directory. I looked through my configuration file and fixed the cgi-bin directory to its corret location, and it still does not work. I looked through the help files at Apache and nothing seems to pertain to my problem.... Does anyone know what im doing wrong here? If your running linux you only need to start the Apache daemon which in my case is "httpd". I added it to the "daemon" line in /etc/rc.conf

You should go through the "httpd.conf" file also to make sure the services you want are available.

If your doing this in Windows, I don't have a clue.

Greetings,

Possible clue: OK, so I am going to build a website using WordPress (which I have not yet downloaded) and I noticed that my hosting service uses Linux and also uses Apache for something...(yes, I'm a noob to this)...

Meanwhile, I found (here I think) very high recommendations for Personal Software Inspector (PSI) and have installed and run it.

PSI tells me that "This program was detected as Insecure, it is strongly recommended that you apply the latest security patch from the vendor of the program." and "The version detected of Apache 2.2.x was 2.2.9 while the latest version including one or more security fixes is 2.2.17."

So, I click the Install Solution link and am taken to an apache.org page and see SEVERAL links for 2.2.17...here they are:
Unix Source: httpd-2.2.17.tar.gz [PGP] [MD5] [SHA1]
Unix Source: httpd-2.2.17.tar.bz2 [PGP] [MD5] [SHA1]
Win32 Source: httpd-2.2.17-win32-src.zip [PGP] [MD5] [SHA1]
Win32 Binary without crypto (no mod_ssl) (MSI Installer): httpd-2.2.17-win32-x86-no_ssl.msi [PGP] [MD5] [SHA1]
Win32 Binary including OpenSSL 0.9.8o (MSI Installer): httpd-2.2.17-win32-x86-openssl-0.9.8o.msi [PGP] [MD5] [SHA1]
Other files

So, please, here are my questions.

1) Why do I have and need Apache?

2) Which link is the proper one for me?

I am running Win7 x64.

TIA

Answer:Apache HTTP Server - which one?

You dont need to run any of the above on your computer, unless your actually hosting your website on your machine. More likely your paying a webhost a monthly fee to host your wordpress account. IIS is in a nutshell the microsoft version of Apache. If you install all this on your home computer, chances are your isp is blocking port 80 traffic to your home, unless your paying for a business account. You really are better off with a professional hosting service that will manage/mitigate your server setup and security risks. Good Luck!

Okay, I have a router and a small network on the inside of it.

Now, how do I configure my router (D-link Di-524) to transfer into that apache server to serve up my web page?

say my ip is 65.22.100.1 or something
and the internal IP of my apache server is 192.168.1.101

How do I get it to where I can type in the 65.22.100.1 ip into a web browser and my router routes to the 192.168.1.101 address to serve the web page?

I'm able to get internal addressing just fine. I just wanna know how to have access from outside my private network.

I had started an Apache Web Server on my WinXP machine, and wanted to get everything working before I attempted it on a Red Hat Linux machine as a full time web server. So here we go:

1)I'm running Apache under WinXP, and I am behind a router
2)My problem HAS to be with my router
3)I contacted help/support with my ISP (Road Runner cable) and this is what they had to say about me with my web server:

Yes, you can use Apache to my knowledge. I know there are customers who set up Apache server and use PHP and MYSQL database with it. I just asked our technician, you can set it up but it will not work on port 80. You do not need a ?Business class account? to set your own web server up, you can run Apache server if you have even a standard residential account.

4)So I have my Apache httpd.conf file configured for port 888 since I can't use 80. My site comes up when I type "http://localhost:888", and "http://192.168.1.101:888/" - which is my internal ip and the correct port

5)Since my ISP confirmed that web servers are allowed (but not on port 80) and since my website comes up on my internal IP, behind the router, this leads me to believe that I am not forwarding port 888 properly.. correct?

But to my knowledge, I have forwarded them properly, and I took screenshots of all three windows of my Linksys router/firewall software, you can see them HERE

I went to "whatismyIP.com" to get my external IP for the router, I typed that IP into my... Read more

I'm running XAMPP under Windows XP Professional SP3. I know Linux alternatives are much better for servers, but I'm a Linux novice and don't have the time and effort to implement it. Right now the computer has to antivirus, or firewall (Windows Firewall was interfering with FileZilla Server). Yes, I know it's bad, but not many people visit it, so I figure its not too much at risk, and it's fully backed up. What programs should I use to protect it? I'll have people connecting to it on port 80 and also 20-24, 990. Also, a few people have FTP permissions to upload files and I don't want the AV interfering with that.

I use Serv-U and like it very much but it is for Windows and Commercial and you can also use IIS built into Windows.

For Linux errm.. don't know, but I'm sure there are many.

Hiya

There is a remotely exploitable vulnerability in the way that Apache web servers (or other web servers based on their source code) handle data encoded in chunks. This vulnerability is present by default in configurations of Apache web server versions 1.2.2 and above, 1.3 through 1.3.24, and versions 2.0 through 2.0.36. The impact of this vulnerability is dependent upon the software version and the hardware platform the server is running on.

Systems Affected

Web servers based on Apache code versions 1.2.2 and above
Web servers based on Apache code versions 1.3 through 1.3.24
Web servers based on Apache code versions 2.0 through 2.0.36

I am just messing around trying to configure an apache web server on my PC (XP Pro). It is hella confusing. Why can they not just make setup clear and easy? All I can access is 127.0.0.1, which gives me the welcome message. I tried changing the directories and such in the configuration fine, but I still cannot figure out what the hell to do.

Basically all I want to do is create a web page just for the hell of it. I may need it later for god knows what.

Can anyone help me out, or at least send me to some good resources? I've already checked out the manual on their site.

Answer:Attempting to setup an apache web server

127.0.0.1 is a loopback code, which refers to your machine.

change the index.html in the apache directory to your index.html, and go from there.

Hi:

Enviro (essential parts):

A new Win7 Pro machine acting as a web server. Loaded with Apache 2.2. This 'server' is located behind a router and is also on a local network with one other Win 7 Prp machine, and with two Win XP machines. One of the XP machines acts a the prime server (for now). The other XP macine is my development machine

I have NO firewall active on any of my machines.

Situation:

When I first hooked up my new Win7 pro machine a couple of weeks ago, it 'served' my pages properly. Then I noted that I couldn't 'push' files to this server machine from my XP development machine.

Ultimately, as of yesterday with a lot of changes to 'Network and Sharing' and use of netplwiz.exe, I can now push/pull files between my XP and Win 7 machines with no problem

New Problem:

But *now*, I can't visit my web site on this new server (where I could do so about a week ago without problems).

This next entry on the Firefox address bar works correctly and shows the first page of my site quickly and properly: Microsoft Internet Information Services 8 (where 4297 is the port where my router directs this web site). The access.log show the access was granted

This next entry I triedsomehow fails to get by my Win 7 machine's security: Website Hosting - Mysite.com and there is no entry in the access.log file on Apache that there was even an attempt --- absolutely empty

Question:

What must I do to the security or sharing on the Win 7 P... Read more

Answer:Win 7 Pro STOPS Access to the Apache Server on it ?

Hi:

Somehow, my 'examples' were changed !

What I wanted to say was that the 127.0.0.1 access was perfect, but the actual web address not allowed to be serviced by Apache.

Hey,
I am trying to get apache working but I am having alot of trouble. If I had no virtual servers and only the default server, it works fine. It response to all the domainnames that refers to it. Problems start when I need to get virtual servers working. When I add the first virtual server, it completely takes over. I set the virtual server to www.domain.com and domain.com but it also takes over other hostnames on the machine such as server.domain.com. When I set the servername in the default server to server.domain.com, the virtual server for www.domain.com and domain.com is there. When I create a second virtual server to handle server.domain.com, it is completely ignored and goes to the first virtual server. When I swap the two virtual servers in the config file, which ever one is first in the file is the one that responses.
Any ideas what is causing this?

Thanks,
Robert

Answer:apache virtual server is taking over

The first virtual host in the config file becomes the default virtual host for all hostnames, not specified for another virtual host.

So I've got my apache server up and running and everything works great.... However I know want to run PHP scripts on the server as well. I realize that this isnt that complicated however I cant get the server to load the php module or cgi. So my question to you all is what is the problem?

I've looked at a lot of tutorial of loading php into apache but I still cant get it to work. Does anyone know of a site or something that would better explain what I need to do becuase everytime I change the http conf like it says the apache server wont even start?

I'm using apache 2.2 and trying to get php 5 to work with it. I realize this is kinda broad in terms of info but my main problem i think im encountering is that my directories arent in sync with the modules or the http conf is tryin to load random ass modules in the php folder that dont excist.

Answer:Windows Apache server and php problem

Well today at work I just setup a local webserver with mysql adaphic and php on vista business 32bit
first disable UAC i tried not disabling it and all it did was cause problems.

Install adaphic, close server than php pointing the the conf folder

and it should work. make sure u dont install the extensions with the installer when i tried something causes adapche to crash.

so after those install it should work.

SOLVED

Hey,

I am trying to install Apache 2.2.4 (apache_2.2.4-win32-x86-no_ssl.msi) on my Windows 7 Home Premium computer. During the installation, two command prompt windows show up with some errors. The first one shows a long list of 'Access Denied' errors, while the second one says something similar to 'NT [...] Not Found'. I noticed, that the httpd.conf file was missing after the installation, and that the service did not get installed at all. After following this guide (Installing Apache 2.2 on Windows 7 (beta) | Developer Oracles), I got the service installed, but it doesn't start.

What can I do to get Apache installed properly? I installed it on Windows Vista (before upgrading) and it worked fine. If required, I can upload screenshots of the error command prompts.

Thanks a lot for helping out

UPDATE 1

Thanks for the welcome

As requested by Dwarf, here the pictures of the error command prompt windows. Note that another window opened during the installation, even before the ones I uploaded. However, it disappeared so quickly that it was impossible to get a screenshot of it. It basically showed a long list of 'Access Denied' messages.

Hi there.

I have a problem with an Apache Server I have recently created.

I am using my Laptop as a server and have got it to work locally. I have configured the document root to be a folder on my C: Drive and when I run 127.0.0.1 I can see the web page I created. From what I can gather I am viewing this locally completely on my system.

My question is, how can I get another machine on my home network to be able to view this?

I have heard you need to forward port 80 on the windows firewall and allow it in your httpd config file, which I have.

I also was told that you have to add this to your httpd file:

<Directory />
Options FollowSymLinks
AllowOverride None
Order deny,allow
Allow from all
#Deny from all
</Directory>

However when I view 192.168.0.1 from another computer on my network, nothing happens.

Thanks.

Answer:Basic Apache Server Functionality

use the ip address of the laptop in your browser from another machine eg my laptop is 192.168.0.5 .

I had a question that maybe someone can help me with. I have Apache installed on WinNT and 98 but would like to install it on only one computer and configure Apache so that it serves up pages to all 4 computer on my local peer to peer network. I am sure this requires a simple configuration of Apache but I cannot find the documentation. Can anyone tell me how to do this or refer me to a web page that discusses this in depth?

Thanks!!

Answer:Apache web server on a local network

Not sure if I understand... If you have Apache running, what is it that you want to do? On a LAN, you should be able to just go to the IP address of that system running Apache (http://192.168.0.1 for example).

So my boss says to me yesterday we need to get apache running on one of our servers for this proprietary software. He wants to do apache instead of IIS because its what they recommend. So I add it to my list, thinking time to hit the net for research because I've never touched apache. So today he comes by and asks if its done and I had no idea he meant that fast! So I'm like "uh not yet" and start downloading! While I'm downloading, any pointers or anything tricky I should know to save me some time? I honestly don't know what this software needs beyond just installing it. Its supposed to host images or something.

hi there,

So I set up an instance of Apache on the port 8081 on a server machine. I can access it fine from IE on the machine itself. However when I try to access it from my personal workstation (or any other network pc for that matter), it doesn't recognize the IP address in the browser. The strange thing is I can ping the server machine...

(Running windows server 2012 and windows 7 professional)
(I obviously can't telenet to it though)

Any ideas?

Thanks!

(ps if this is too vague I'm sure I can take some time to make a screencast! Let me know anything you need from me)

Answer:Can access apache locally through server but not anywhere else on network

I'm not familiar with Apache so I'm afraid that I won't be of much help, but since no one has replied I figured I'd toss these few things out there:

1. Did you try appending the port number to the IP address in the address bar? ex. http://192.168.0.1:8081

2. Have you tried turning off Windows Firewall for both machines? Can you ping the workstation from the server?

3. If you are using IE, maybe try running in compatibility mode or changing certain security settings. Maybe try a different browser.

4. Have you tried using a different port, maybe port 80 or 443?

If none of these help then I am at a loss. I'm assuming that static IPs in the same subnet are correctly set and everything is connected properly.

Hi Guys,

I have a new computer d975xbx2 M/board with 8 gig ram and windows vista 64 bit installed.

I attached it to my netgear WGT624 v2 router along with my 2 XP "old" computers.

Everything was working fine, however the internet seemed to get sluggish after 5 or 6 hours or so, when I would unplug and replug the router and off we go again.

Fed up with this, I thought it must be the router so I rang netgear who told me to upgrade the firmware, which I did.

Then then problems began.

If I tried to open internet explorer, it would instantly not find a webpage and upon closing the browser, the box "internet explorer has stopped working" appears every time. The same when you open and close Windows media player, mailwasher, eudora etc.

When you open windows media player you can play songs but when closing the error box appears "windows media player has stopped working" etc. When you open Eudora or mailwasher it appears to "not find a socket" or "error getting network socket"(whatever that means). When closing the program up comes "eudora has stopped working etc".

So.... I gave up and did clean install of windows. Had a bit of trouble reinstalling everything as I know 'jack' about vista, let alone 64 bit systems (don't know why the guy sold it to me in the first place).

But anyway, got up and running with no more error boxes, that is until a week later I get "Apache http server has stopped ... Read more

I would like to stay on the low end (under $1500) and buy something with some room for expansion. I generally buy white boxes w/o an OS. Could anyone give me a few tips on what I should look for as far as configuration? Do I need dual processors? A special NIC? How much RAM? Anything else I need to consider? Thanks in advance.

Answer:What's important in a web server running apache/php/mysql?

Apache and MySQL are really simple and you wont need much CPU. My opinion is you wont need more than a simple workstation.
Of course I prefer a real server. They are more reliable.
Compaq Proliant DL.. 320? 360? They are pretty cheap and you wont need more for a webserver with a MySQL database for 15 users.

Good Luck.

Hi,

I have a wireless network at the office with on computer running Apache web server. When I'm logged on to the network and in the office I can access my pages and database through the web but when at home and not on the wireless network i can't access the pages through the web. All machines are running XP professional. It seems the router is not letting outside computers access the pages on the machine running the web server via the internet. Is this XP or router settings? We do have wep enabled. I am a programmer with basic networking knowledge so any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Answer:Wireless networking and Apache server problem

Work's connection to the internet is generally going to include a firewall. That firewall is probably using NAT to allow work computers to access the internet, but not vice versa. If the LAN at work is using addresses in the 10.x.y.z or 172.16-32.x.y or 192.168.x.y then the router/firewall is definitely doing NAT, and you'll need the router/firewall to be able to do Static NAT so you can assign a public address (something that's not in the above ranges) to the private address the server is actually using.

Generally, routers that are able to do more than a single Static NAT address configuration are going to cost at least $500. So, if work has a real router, you should be fine; if it is using a cheap $60 broadband router, it probably isn't going to work very well.

Does anyone know if it's possible to use Apache instead of Microsoft's Web Server for running Remote Desktop via the browser?

I'm trying to find a way around this because I use Apache on port 80, and would much rather NOT use Microsoft's web server... and if I do use it at the same time, I can't let it have port 80 as well, but using almost any other port...most school/library computers will block the incoming ports.

I have PHP installed running with apache, I did it manually which I prefer because I can then create virtual hosts.

I have http://lostseed, http://jream, and http://velocity

I am having a very hard time getting MySQL to work.
All I want to do is have a MySQL database for each of these Virtual Hosts.
It doesnt matter If I use PHPmyAdmin or anything, I still cant get that to work
either

Ive read manuals and things and I cant figure out what Im doing wrong.

My virtual hosts are setup in system32/drivers/etc/hosts

Code:

127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.1 jream
127.0.0.1 lostseed
127.0.0.1 velocitytools
127.0.0.1 test
To set those up I have this in my httpd.conf file for each one:

Code:
#For jream:
NameVirtualHost jream

<VirtualHost jream>
DocumentRoot d:\jream
ServerName jream
</VirtualHost>

<Directory "d:\jream">
Options all
AllowOverride all
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
</Directory>
is there an easier way to do this? I tried using WAMP with aliases but
it does not show the css or image files when running because everything
is linked /css/ and /images/ -- if you click a link in the aliased directory
it would go http://css/, its stupid

please help Im going nuts

Answer:Apache HTTP Server Works w/PHP, how to work MySQL?

You should really use an IP address or Wildcard for the NameVirtualHost

You need to setup a VirtualHost Entry for each website and the Directory Directive needs to be inside the VirtualHost Directive.

Try not to start multiple threads with the same problem. Try and keep it all in one thread.

I'm trying to install Joomla (= revised Mambo) onto my WAMP-server environment, which includes the Apache web server.

The instructions say:
Unzip the distribution file into a directory under your web server root. If you are using the Apache web server, this is typically c:apache groupapachehtdocs on Windows.

Allowing for a typo, I have no such directory group or groupapache nor groupapachehtdocs.

Anybody have any insight?

Answer:How to install Joomla on an Apache server (part of WAMP)?

The webs server root is the directory where you put index.html and all the subfolders etc. By default it should be "htdocs" under Apache in Program Files.

I found someone else had the same problem as I do here

"I've been having a problem with google. Every time I click on a link it will take me to some "searchclick8.com" or something like that through a few redirections. The only way that I am able to access the links is if I click "cached" under the link. Also, whenever I click on the GMail tab, it says that the certificate can not be found and if I click continue it says "Not Found The requested URL /accounts/ServiceLogin was not found on this server. Apache/2.2.3 (Red Hat) Server at www.google.com Port 443" But then when I go on GMail on my desktop, it works fine. Please someone help!"

So basically, I cannot access anything Google-related (search, blogger, wave), but Gtalk works fine. I think it might be a result of accidentally deleting infected files via AVG; I've also tried using Spybot and Norton... .

Error message:

Before I start with the problem, I'll give a few details about my Apache server. It's Windows XP Home Edition, with Service Patch 2 and all updates complete. It runs Wamp, which has Apache and MySQL. However, I have done tests to show that the problem lies with Apache. The server is behind a router, but I doubt that is causing the problem. People can access my server from my domain, without a problem. My internet connection is 2MBit, with around 200Kbs upload.

Now for the problem. I have noticed that when Apache is running, my internet connection slows down drastically, from around 1800Kbs, to anything as low as 300Kbs. When I close Apache, within about 5 minutes, my connection goes back up to a proper speed. When I start Apache, it can take anything between 5 mintutes, and half an hour for my connection to slow down, but it always does.

Is there a way to fix this? I appreciate any help given. I am fairly new to this, but I have done my research where needed.

Thanks a lot.

PS. If it helps you to access my site, it can be found at www.wormstournaments.com. However, due to this problem, I have Apache off a lot of the time, so you may not be able to access it.

Answer:Apache HTTP Server causing slower internet speeds.

Are your NIC drivers up to date? I've see NIC drivers cause problems with server setups before. It's odd that your download speed changes, because apache doesn't use much of it!

Does your ISP allow HTTP servers on connections? The speed restriction could be a "punishment" for running a server on their connection. And odd thing to do, they could just block port 80, but possible.

I reserved, a log time ago, Windows 10 for my Desktop but never activated it nor set a date for activation after an aborted upgrade to 10 on a laptop shortly after the 29th July.

Yesterday evening, I booted up my Dell Desktop (running 8.1), entered my password and Windows 10 started to install automatically! I had noticed that Microsoft had previously automatically Downloaded Windows 10 to my system in anticipation that I may wish to install it at some future date. This Upgrade file could not be removed.

All my settings were set to Notify me if Updates were available and my choice when and if to install them.

In fear of 'damaging' my Desktop, I went through the entire installation process (using Customized settings) and then reverted back to Windows 8.1.

To get to the points I wish to make now:

1. In my opinion, Microsoft have no Legal right to download a Windows 10 UPGRADE file to my computer as their Lisence states only Updates.

2. The unsolicited Installation and reverting back to Windows 8.1 took hours to perform.

3. As I was not prepared to Upgrade to 10, I had not prepared any Data/recovery/driver back-ups. Luckily for me the reverting back to 10 went without a hitch and all my previous settings were as before.

4. Today, despite my settings set to the contrary, Updates were automatically downloaded and installed.

However it seems change in management is reflected in change of policy, but not necessarily policies which will "win hearts and minds", especially with the way MS lacks consistency over email clients, support of iRDA (infra red), desktop vs tiles, UI appearance - which has changed even since the 'RTM' build, and even their failure to provide an adequately specified start menu.

I lost my Hotmail Account in November 2012. I had the account for over a decade. I contacted MS immediately, using another e-mail carrier unrelated to MS.

After approxiamtely 15 e-mails, and completing numerous forms, answering questions. My Hotmail Account was released January 2013, including all contacts and buisness related contacts. All those e-mails have been saved, after MS
released my Hotmail Account in January.

Browser information from today was saved, while Outlook was being installed, I did everything to stop MS.

Please understand that when Hotmail was returned in January, my Hotmail Account Name was changed, and OUTLOOK was the format. I complied with their many requests.

More importantly in January, I had the OPTION to change from Outlook, back to Standard Hotmail. Which I did sucessfully, untill today, when MS installed Outlook. Since when, can MS erase messages, install Outlook without the end-user, Customer, agreeing....... Espically, before your eyes.

Hello everyone!

The Searchqu toolbar installed without permission. Before it installed, a window popped up asking permission to install. I was supposed to check the box to give permission to install the program. I did NOT check the box!! I then clicked continue, figuring that the program would not install. But the DAMN Thing Installed anyway!! I did not ask for this program to be downloaded and did not click for this program to install!!

I tried to remove the program by going to the "Programs and Features" list and then finding the name of the program and then clicking "uninstall" and then restarting my computer. But when my computer restarted The Damn toolbar was still active on screen. So I clicked on the toolbar to look up "help" and then sent an email for the removal instructions! Here is a copy of my email I sent:

"Hello,

Your program/Toolbar installed With-out permission!! I did NOT, repeat, did NOT, check the box that would let the toolbar install. However it self installed! Now I want this product off of my computer NOW!!! I tried to delete it from the "Programs and Features" section, But the Program is still on my Computer!!

Please forward me the removal instruction. Thank you.

Matthew Groff"

I did not get an email back from them, only a response on here from someone claiming to be a representative.
I restarted my computer and changed the settings... Read more

This morning when I shut down my comp I noticed the "downloading updates, do not turn off comp" message. Later when I restarted, the usual "configuring windows" appeared prior to windows starting. Logged in & checked to see if any updates had been installed and sure enough, KB3140410 & KB3135983 had been installed..... BUT, I have my updates set to 'check for but let me choose whether to download & install.' I've never encountered windows automatically downloading & installing updates like this before... You are not alone, I too have my PCs set to check and let me decide to download and install updates and it they are doing the SAME EXACT THING!

It's no mistake and honestly seems to be borderline criminal if you ask me. The only consolation is that the notorious get windows 10 updates are still under OPTIONAL updates and they are NOT being auto downloaded and installed, make sure you have that UNchecked

"Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates" UNCHECK THAT BOX!!!!

Last night my firewall alerted me to Avast wanting give internet access to an exe file which I thought was an update of some kind for the AV software, turns out they installed their own Chrome based browser called Avast SafeZone Browser. This would have installed silently without my permission if my firewall didn't alert me. WTF?

Answer:Avast installed their own web browser without permission

Hmm, thanks for the heads-up. I seriously will look into this. If Avast are abusing their permissions, than goodbye in not dealing with them anymore.

I just installed windows 7 on my 80gb drive and left my tb drive alone. I installed fine, but when I'm trying to access my tb drive, I get permission errors. I can't open any movies or pictures on the tb drive.

It says, "You don't currently have permission to access this folder". So I hit continue then it says, "You have been denied permission to access this folder." So then I click on the security tab, click continue, and give permission rights to my name. Then finally once I get into the folder, try to run the avi file or whatever I get an error in windows media player saying, "Windows Media Player cannot access the file. The file might be in use, you might not have access to the computer where the file is stored, or your proxy settings might not be correct"

I was reading to fix this problem on XP all you have to do is unstall the security portion through the control panel, but I don't see it listed on the Windows 7 control panel.

Any help will be appreciated.

Answer:Installed Windows 7, but having permission errors.

You probably need to take ownership of the drive/files.

I've already uninstalled it 3 times, and every time it comes back. My windows update settings are set to "allow me to choose wether to download and install them", and yet, it keeps getting installed on my machine without my permission. It doesn't even show up in the history of updates I downloaded, and I made sure it DID show up in the hidden updates section, so why is it being reinstalled at all?

Jeeze I hate companies taking advantage of me!! Oh, and I'm not sure if this is the right place for this thread, so i'm not sure. Sorry! If it's not in the correct place, ehh, just move it.

Anyway, I was surfing the internet, and I got a popup that said:

THANKS FOR AGREEING TO GATORíS PRIVACY STATEMENT AND LICENSE AGREEMENT, AND FOR INSTALLING THE GATOR EWALLET SUITE, WHICH INCLUDES YOUR FREE GATOR AND OFFER COMPANION SOFTWARE APPLICATIONS. THESE TWO APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACTIVATED WITHIN A FEW HOURS, AND A MESSAGE WILL APPEAR ON SCREEN WHEN THEY ARE READY.

It also had some stuff at the bottom of it. Anyway, I NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER gave them permission to install this!! I'm very outraged. Soooo, when I went to Add/Remove programs, I didn't see it! Does anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of this horrible, evil, s..sss..SPYWARE?!

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Gator (the evil spyware program) was installed without my permission!!!

Hi maxim2,
Try going to your main drive (C probably), click on program files, and see if you see a gator folder in there. If so click on it and see if you see an uninstall program there. If that works I suggest you get Adaware and install it then run it. This will get rid of the gaotor spyware that is left on your computer. You can get it here!

Hi there, sorry if you can't understand me because English is not my main language. I just purchased a SSD(Plextor PX-128M5Pro ATA Device) few days ago and I am currently using it as my main drive. I have my operating system(Windows 7 Ultimate x64) installed in the SSD and named it C: Drive.. I have another 500gb HDD connected to my pc and I am currently using it as storage to store my other files as my SDD is only 128gb. It all went well and I was satisfied with the speed of starting up my windows as the system files are all installed in the SSD. I also installed a few games(Dota2, Skyrim etc) into the SSD, everything worked fine and I was able to play my games very smoothly, however today what happened was after I restart my pc, the SSD denied me from accesing my games and I realize I do not have permission to write/modify the files that are installed in the SSD folders. I am the only user of this PC and apparently I am the only Administrator as well. I tried to change my permission on that folder(Program files x86) but I failed, the system wouldn't allow me to modify it. Right now I can't execute any games or programs I installed into my SSD. This is the error message shown when I tried to launch my Steam(Dota2).

I tried system restore, but it didn't work, did anyone else came across this problem?

Can somebody please help me as I do not have a lot knowledge on PC troubleshooting , I need a step-by-step guide to solve this problem. Your help is much appreciated

Answer:Win7 installed in SSD, facing permission denied problems.

Hi zhenglah, Welcome to Sevenforums.

Above pasted error is of Steam, which is used to buy and download games. Is it possible for you to uninstall Steam and install it to some other drive? If this helps well and good. Else, you can follow the link. It gives a complete procedure on how to install Win 7 on SSD.

Agh!
I keep getting this error everytime I try to get onto a certain site:

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access / on this server.

And I am not sure why. I can access the site when I am on a different network or through a proxy, but not from my home network. Is is possible that I was blocked from this site or something? Is there a way to get around this (other than a proxy)?

Answer:You don't have permission to access / on this server.

Can you tell us the site or give us a link to it so we can see if others get the same error.

Cheers!

I run a windows 2003 server. I have about 10 computers connected to the network. Everything was working great, until I took a vacation. When I came back one of the computers could not connect to the network. Everytime I try to go to the network I get the message "\\servername is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions." I have not changed anything with the server. I have tried disabling the firewall on the computer that cannot connect. I reformatted the computer and the message still appears. Does anyone have any ideas?

Answer:\\server is not accessible. You might not have permission to use etc etc

It may have been dropped from the domain, happens from time to time. Try removing it from the domain and readding it.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for this great website. This will actually be my first post here. I am having issues with my DNS configurations, under the IPV4 properties. I originally had it set to receive the dns server automatically, and now it is constantly changing to receive dns server through a static IP. The static Ip address that keeps getting assigned is 216.146.36.240. I do have internet access, but I my outlook which is setup with a exchange email address is not connecting because of this issue. I noticed that my homepage did change once, but I dont know if it was because of a software that I downloaded or virus related. Honestly, I am not sure what is causing this.

Things that I have already tried:
Booted into safemode and ran rkill followed by malwarebytes and superantispyware.
I didnt know I wasn't supposed to run it on my own, but I ran Combofix (sorry)
I ran Microsoft Security Essentials
I ran from a command line ipconfig /flushdns, and rebooted.

Thanks guys

Answer:DNS server changes to static without permission

I thought it was dyndns.org that was the issue, and i just realized it wasn't.
There is a software called Sendori, I uninstalled it. And that seemed to be the problem.

Typically I'm running Windows 7 on a SSD and I have a 1TB storage drive with apps, music, documents, movies, games etc on it and it's all good and gravy. I need to learn W8 for work so I pulled my current SSD and put a blank SSD in, installed W8 to it and went about using my storage drive like normal...however Chrome constantly complains about needing admin permissions to write to my F:\Downloads folder. Copy/pasting files complains about needing admin permissions to write to the folder, uTorrent will not write to any of the folders due to permission denyed.

My user account is an administrator with the same name as the one I used in W7 but I understand GUID is probably different. How come this never happens with my various W7 installs? UAC is also disabled. I'm guessing it has to do with folder ownership...any hints?

Here is another example. I'm trying to extract a zip in my drivers folder on the F: drive, winrar says permission denyed. I can create a new folder, need permission to do it. Copy zips to that folder, still permission denyed. Why is my storage drive so F'd be permissions right now? No wonder I call it the Fuck drive (F drive) lol

Answer:Installed Windows 8, file/folder permission issues galore.

Have you went to the properties of the drive and verified the permissions for your account in Windows 8 for the secondary drive?

I now get this error message trying to access network resources from a laptop that used to work just fine. My wife's similarly configured laptop continues to work fine. I regularly share drives and printers across all machines and all appear to work except for this laptop. I have found that I can pring the other computers without issue if I use the ip address and can "net use" the drives directly by specifying the ip address rather than the computer name. However, any attempt to use the computer name fails (as above or as a "System error 53 has occurred" in a command prompt). Using the [email protected] solves part of the problem but I cannot find a similar [email protected] workaround to get to my network printer successfully.

All computers are running XP professional. I have tried disabling firewalls. The laptop is a work-configured laptop (as is my wife's) and works fine connected to all manner of networks. As I mentioned, this machine worked fine a unil I noticed an issue about a month ago. This problem persists through re-boots.

Dear all:
This question is about giving right permission for users to access a folder, which contains a MS Access file database. In this case, without using MS Access to grant Read/Write rights, I can use Server OS to control user permissions of Read/Write.

However, it has happened a few times that suddenly some of us who have Administrator rights were only able to read the data but not able to alter; in other words, our permission rights have changed from Administrator to limited users. (Admin has both read and write, limited users only have read only).

I checked on the Server end, the permissions (for accessing that folder) are given correctly (assigned within Active Directory).

I was trying to figure out how it happened, and suddenly, I was able to view the database as Admin again.

There seems to be a glitch with my network across MS platform or something... sometimes either I cannot view the computers/shared folders on network, or sometimes I cannot access certain directories with right permissions.

Gladly this does not happen often (like once a month). But still, I would like to fix it. If anyone knows anything about it, please feel free to share your knowledge -)

Thank you~~

Clear the Cookies, etc for whatever web browser you are using. If using any third party security software, make sure that it is not blocking that website. Basic stuff that you need to go and check to make sure that it is not one of those two items causing it.
