Virus Problems & Hardware detection error

Question: Virus Problems & Hardware detection error

My son is running a PC with XP pro. I ran AVG antivirus and it has detected 3 viruses in a zip file (count.jar-43c66fb6-14c3949a.zip) called BlackBox.class, Verifier.class, and Beyond.class. I tried to follow through on the AVG suggested removal which says if you haven't got Java plug-ins installed you can delete the appropriate file. When I do this it appears to prevent access to the internet. Any advice much appreciated.A bit of further info, on boot up it keeps generating a message that New hardware relating to an Ipod has been found, even though no such item (we don't have one) or infact anything is plugged into any of the ports.I am not sure if the Online gaming that appears to have installed itself in favourites(and cannot be deleted is any connection, it also appears to have installed a browser bar at the bottom of the screen which also I don't appear to be able to remove.

Preferred Solution: Virus Problems & Hardware detection error

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

First, please forgive me. I am a computer noob. I'm not very savvy with computers, so I might need "extra" help.

We have a shared family computer and today, all of a sudden, a window popped up and said something along the lines of, "Hard Drive Detection Error". My wife restarted the computer and everything on the desktop disappeared, none of the programs were in the Startup menu and we have no idea what happened and how to fix this. I've searched and found that others had similar experiences. I'm not sure if my hard drive really is out of commission or if we've contracted a virus.

I'm running Windows XP (sorry not sure which Service Pack). My hard drive is petitioned into 2 parts, Operating System is on the C:\ and everything else (music, games, pics, etc...) is on the E:\. It seems like everything still shows up on the E:\, that's why I believe I may have contracted a virus???

Can someone please help this noob out?

Thanks in advance!

Hello people, my problems started after attempting to download an ISO of WindWaker from Emuparadise. I read from others online that the site is safe and there should be no problem if I just download the game. After the download ended, however, Webroot Security alerted me to a virus it detected. The files it quarantined said something about winrar, but I still assume it was in the Windwaker file I just downloaded since that literally just finished downloading when I was alerted. I deleted the quarantined files and tried to see if I could still play WindWaker. I couldn't, as a pop up appeared that said I didn't have the righ programs to run this file. I looked up this alert, and apparently it's a registry problem that occurs when something important in the registry was deleted (I didn't mess with the registry). I downloaded another antivirus just to double check that some sort of virus wasn't deleting stuff in my registry, but both antivirus softwares said there were no threats. I also tried to redownload windwaker from emuparadise, as people online seemed to think it was a false positive malware detection, and the first two times I visited the site I got a BSOD that said IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL. The third time I successfully downloaded it again, this time without any virus detection notice, but the pop up still came up when I tried to interact with the file. I'm pretty confused about what to do here. I'm thinking that maybe one of those quarantined files I deleted was importan... Read more

Hi Guys

I recently built my fist pc, which I am pleased to say is going fine.

A friend wants me to build him one now but I would like a bit of advice.

I used a pc chips motherboard with onboard, sound, video, usb, Lan etc.

When I installed the os and it run for the first time , I kept getting the message "Windows has detected new hardware" and I had to keep cancelling till I eventually got to the point where windows had loaded and was then able to insert a disk that came with the motherboard, that had a set up facility to install the drivers all in one go.

Did I make hard work for myself, or is this the usual way to do it?

Also one other thing, I am tring to get into set up, by pressing Del when the pc boots (it tells me to do this) but it will not go in, and the pc just boots anyway. Any ideas?

Thank you very much.

Hi,

I've been having PC problems for a while now. I suspect someone installed hardware to be able to spy on my computer activity (possibly, streaming to a kind of site). If someone were to spy on someone else in this way, how would he do it? Would he use certain hardware or certain software?

If I were to take pictures of the contents of my hardware case, would you be able to identify any hardware that doesn't belong there?

In addition, if someone were to install hidden cameras in someones house, possibly through TV or other electronics, how would he do it?

Additional, possibly helpful, info: I bought this computer a while ago, ran completely fine, never had to open it. About a year and a half ago I rechecked, and someone had broken the seal, so I know it must have been opened for some reason. Does this ring a bell for someone, as a way of spying on someone's computer activity?

Thanks.

Thats a hell of a leap. Why would anyone care about you? Computers slow down over time. This can be caused by failing hard drives, installed software, poorly tested software updates, or just "bit rot". How long is "a while ago". Consumer electronics have really short warranty periods. I've had those "security" stickers fall off after a year before.
Also, anyone capable of breaking into your house to install sophisticated monitoring hardware in you computer is also capable of breaking into your house and making you disappear, so good luck with that.

Does Anyone have an idea to turn off the detection of new hardware? I have almost all services turned off and it keep detecting a secondary monitor. I'm using an ELO 3200L with a dual core computer module windows 8.1 Pro with all current updates. I try disabling the secondary monitor and it just installs it again, I even disabled all monitors, and it install 1st monitor and second monitor. I also then deleted both monitors and windows just keeps installing them both.
Somehow windows detects a second monitor, installs it, the it will disappear on its own, then it will install it again, sometimes it will do this every 5 or 10 seconds. I figure if I can turn off "New Hardware Detection" This would solve the problem.

Thanks!!
Bobby

Answer:Need A Way To Turn Off New Hardware Detection

Obvious question, do you have a second monitor connected? Turning off new hardware detection is only going to cripple your system. What are you connecting to the ELO 3200L, laptop or desktop PC?

Answer:Automatic Hardware detection

Welcome to TSF.

First make sure that the device is compatible with XP. Next I would see if there are any drivers that are required to run if used in Windows XP. A digital camera will probably need drivers or software installed for it to work.

The most important thing is what happened to it. Did it have spyware/adware/virus prot3ection in place and being used? What computer make/model? How old is it? Are you the only user of this machine? Has anyhone been monkeying around inside the case? What are the computer specifications - RAM, hard drive, etc.Just a few details like this would be helpful so we are not left to guess.

So...
Having a small issue with my laptop. i looked all over the internet and alas i came up with nothing whatsoever.
I ordered my laptop off of microsoft website because they had a deal for students, this was about 3 years ago.
The other day i was watching a stream on my laptop and it started making clicking noises and froze my computer, i restarted chrome and everything worked fine again.
then about a week later watching another stream, the clicking noises began again only this time it shut my computer off. so i turned it back on and this error came up(No boot device detected. strike F1 to retry boot Strike F2 to run setup utility or F5 to run onboard system diagnostics.)
So naturally i clicked retry boot a couple million times but to no avail nothing worked.
So i ran my onboard diagnostics. and it came up with hard drive not connected. so i was like okay my hard drives fried. so i connected a different one... same error message

So now ive come here for solutions, ive never in my life resorted to posting online about a situation. but this is just insane. either the connection from my computer to my hard drive is fried, Both my hard drives are fried or something in the softwares messed up.
All im asking for is a solution... Thanks.

I am having a problem with two new Socket 478 motherboards. One is an Aopen and one is an ASUS. Both are brand new. I am replacing a defective motherboard in an E-machines computer. I have installed a new power supply and have tried both motherboards. Neither board with detect any devices connected to the secondary IDE interface. I have replaced hundreds of systemboards and have never had this problem. I have checked to make sure that the BIOS has this device enabled. One board is an Aopen MX46-800N and the other is an ASUS P4S8X-MX-UAYZ. I feel that I must be missing something obvious. I may try another power supply or is it possible for a CPU to be defective and cause this? I can't imagine that two new Motherboards would have defective secondary IDE connections.

Answer:Secondary IDE hardware detection

A defective IDE cable or defective drive(s) or wrong jumper settings? And if you are using the 80-wire cable, then it does matter which plug goes where.

Not quite sure where to post this, but this seemed an appropriate place...

I was running a game that required all my system resources to run at an acceptable FPS, so I went about the process of stopping extra processes. In doing that, I entered services.msc and stopped services not essential to playing my game (DHCP, DNS, iPod, Themes, etc. (and yes, I know enough to not disable things that are necessary for running my computer correctly; this isn't the first time I've done this, just the first time I've had this problem)).

The problem is... once I restarted my computer, I found my network unreachable. I entered services.msc again, to find that all the appropriate services had started back up. Puzzled, I entered the device manager, to find my Network Adapter tab completely missing. I tried to Add Hardware, to no avail (nothing was auto-detected, and any driver I installed did not work (see below)). I tried manually installing the drivers using the CD that came with the MB, but XP won't let me install the drivers manually (it tells me to do it from the Control Panel). Also, pointing Add Hardware at the CD gives me the same installation options that I get pointing it at my local .dlls, so that doesn't work, either.

I did a little research and found that my lan device is one "VIA VT6103L 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet PHY", which is better known as "VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter". When running Add Hardware, that is one of the options to install... Read more

Alright, I am fresh off of an install for windows xp pro on a new computer for a customer and I am stumped on the following pair of problems...

Specs:
ASUS A8N-E SKT 939 mobo
A64 X2 3800+
2 gigs of ram
80gb sata WD hdd
cd-rw drive
blah blah blah

Ok, after I get into windows for the first time, I am swamped by the standard 52,000 messages saying new hardware has been found blah blah blah...

I promptly install the motherboard chipset/integrated drivers, restart, install video card drivers, restart, all the way until all of the drivers are installed.

Now, during this entire time I always click 'cancel' when windows wants to search for drivers on the net, or install drivers of any kind. After all of the drivers are installed, I still get two hardware detection notices for my HARD DRIVE(?!) and my cd-rw drive of all freaking things...

After installing the final set of drivers, I see these two messages pop up, and I let windows install the drivers thinking that its some stupid fluke.

After running through the hardware detection series, windows can find no drivers for the hard drive and my cd-rw drive (and if u didnt see that comming...).

So, anywho, I restart yet again, get through posting, and right before it gets to the loading screen for windows xp, the whole thing resets back to bios, itll do this over and over again if i choose 'boot normally' or any of the safe mode options.

If i revert to the last settings that worked, the system boots into wind... Read more

To enable movie viewing on 55" LCD TV

This is a pain in the rear for me but it is the only way to get the HDMI audio recognized as a valid option in Audio Playback devices. (Video always works but the audio is says not connected)

To get the HDMI Audio detected, I have to....
First - On my TV I have to select the HDMI channel that is connected to my PC
Second - I have to un-plug and plug-in the HDMI cable. (I can hear the Windows 7 found hardware sound)
Third - Now I can select HDMI as my default audio device (everything works great)
I usually have to repeat this process any time the PC or TV gets shut off. I am worried about wearing out the HDMI port by plugging and un[lugging so often. This can't possibly be the way it is supposed to work.

This is not an intermittant issue - it is a matter of the ATI HDMI detecting the audio connection and is very repeatable and consistant. All drivers ATI and VIA audio are the latest to date as of today.

Maybe it is the Plug&Play component - TV has to be on when turning on the PC or I have to manually force the detection process (as above)

Video = ATI 4550
MOBO = ASUS P7P55D-E LX

Answer:ATI HDMI Detection of Hardware issue

I have read many post on this issue and First of all yes the TV must be on at all times on the HDMI signal if you don't want the signal broken don't turn the tv off use you're power saving feature

Let windows turn the monitor off for you that way simple mouse movement will bring back the screen also you should be able to right click and disable onboard then enable the HDMI sound by right clicking

I might add using power saving feature is the only way to keep from breaking the HDMI connection also i don't advise any heibernation or sleep mode because that will just break the signal the best thing to do is let windows turn the monitor off but do not put your machine in sleep mode or any other power save featurn just treat your tv as a monitor

I find this the only and best way to work the ati cards and yes you keep unplugging and plugging the HDMI cable something is bound to go wrong eventually

I just did a re-install of Win 10 on a new SSD. Afterwards, I noticed that certain things like renaming and deleting files caused hangs, i.e., deleting a file caused a green progress bar to display that hung at 99% for several seconds, and renaming a file or folder would cause the white text box to stay open for an extended length of time before closing and showing the new name. After a lengthy process of elimination, I discovered that disabling the Shell Hardware Detection Service at startup would resolve these issues. These problems did not occur before I re-installed the OS. Does anyone know why this might be happening and how I can resolve it permanently without disabling the SHDS? Thanks.

I recently posted similar info HERE on Disk Management

But you may also need to go to Device Manager and remove the Drive first
HERE is a good pictured guide to do that

OK, I have a Dell Vostro 400 with XP Home SP3 that was running just fine until one day I turned it on and everything is sooooo slowwww. It now takes about 5 minutes for the icons to show up on the desktop, and equally long to execute when I click on one of them.

The last thing I remember before it went bad is that I had some issues with AOL. After running MSCONFIG and turning things on and off through trial and error, I have narrowed it down to "shell hardware detection". If I disable this service, all runs well. Turn it on, and the computer crawls.

I have also since uninstalled AOL, but nothing makes the computer run as before unless I disable "shell hardware detection".

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. :confused

Answer:shell hardware detection problem

Thanks DomLuc, I was not aware of the issues with MSCONFIG. Fortunately, as your link suggests, I only used it as a temporary diagnostic to troubleshoot. I currently have "shell hardware detection" shut off using services.msc.

I did run CCleaner per your suggestion. Unfortunately, I still have the problem. When I enable "shell hardware detection", the computer slows down to an unusable level.

Any suggestions?

When I installed Windows 7, there were tons of devices on my Asrock Z77 Extreme4 motherboard that were detected but not identified.

Windows 8 detected, identified and installed drivers for all of them except for 1. (In fairness, I have disabled some stuff in the motherboard, like infrared receiver, COM port and maybe others, so I don't know if those would have been identified.)

That said, should I install the drivers that came with the motherboard over the MS supplied drivers anyhow?

There was only one driver with an exclamation point in the Device Manager. It was called "PCI Communication Device" or something to that effect. Installing "Intel Management Engine Driver" from the motherboard DVD cured that.

But I still don't know what was that mystery device or what is the Intel Management Engine Driver.

Answer:Impressive detection/identification of hardware, with one exception

I wouldn't. Not unless if there are updated ones for Windows 8. Those drivers are built to use for Windows 7, not for 8.

If it works so far in 8, I don't think there would be a huge need to install third party drivers, except for the display drivers from NVIDIA and AMD when they're finalized for 8.

Hi,
Had a problem with 1 of our laptops and had to do a complete restore, when it all came back to running I can't get an internet connection. If I go to the wireless connection my network is listed but after inputting keyword phrase it can't connect. If I go to "set up a connection" > "set up a wireless router" Windows does not detect any wireless network hardware.
I can connect if I plug in the ethernet cable directly and this laptop was connecting perfectly to this router before the crash and restore.

Okay, i'm at a loss; i'll divide this into two parts. A couple days ago i rebooted my computer and it made weird noises and wouldn't boot up. At first i thought it was a hardware issue, but after waiting for about an hour and a half it started up again. It's done the same thing a few more times... noises then if i wait, it seems to boot up fine. Is that a hardware issue?

Next, my computer has been getting gradually slower for the past month or so... but after the weird noise/bootup problem it's MUCH slower. I went to norton's site and it said i had a virus and to use a tool that i had to download. I downloaded it and it says it removed it, but my system still won't behave. I've ran that tool several times and it always says the same thing. Norton won't remove it in the regular system sweep or in the full system scan, and the tool provided doesn't seem to remove it. Do i need to reformat? Could the messed up booting and the virus be related? And if i do need to reformat, can someone tell me how to do it?

I follow directions very well and would greatly appreciate any help ya'll can give me.

Thanks!

Hi

Im currently in the process of bringing my PC back from the brink. St present I am unable to boot because a system32/hal.dll is not present. Before this I was unable to boot without seeing a blue screen showing a lack of memory.

I have been having problems for a few weeks now. At first just a little slow down and the occassional crash, but it has recently escalated to large scale slow down and fatal errors causing the pc to reboot. From the performances menu in Task Manager I can see large large CPU usage peaks with the processor running at 100% consistantly with no programs running. Simil;arly, on startup the PF usage is settled around 200MB but gradually increases over a matter of minutes until it is 2 or 3 GB+. This is usually about when the system declares a fatal error and reboots itself.

The only process that appears to be taking processor power at these points is svchost, that will usually run between 0-1%. I have been aprehensive to end this though as I know it to be a core process. I also had similar problems with lsass.exe. I researched and figured it could be the Welchia Worm or MSBLAST.D virus but have found no trace with any anti virus software. I tried the suggested treatments regardless with no success.

A couple of days ago the problems got to the point where no prgrams would open and the system rebooted every few minutes. I managed to rectify this by reinstalling windows, but it appears to have been short lived. Now, after a fatal error the PC has be... Read more

Answer:Startup Problems - Hardware, Software or Virus?

With all the problems my best solution is a rebuild is the easiest solution....

Personally I would grab the HDD out of the PC that is having a problem, slave it to the other PC, SCAN THE HDD!!!! (this is important in case you did get a virus you don't want to infect the other PC), backup the files to the other PC's HDD, Move the HDD you slaved on that PC back to the original. If you have a HDD diagnostic utility you may want to run this on your HDD at this time, then format and rebuild your current HDD in the original PC (not in the other PC you have), and then lastly setup the network to get your files back onto your original PC.

Just my opinion but you have way to maney types of problems going on to try and weed through them all and you have already stated an install over the top did nothing for you much.

Yesterday, I ran a .exe file which I shouldn't have and it suddenly wiped out my files. I got a black desktop with only the Recycle Bin left. My files are nowhere to be found and I started to restore my computernto a previpus restore point, it still did not work. in my start menu on the right of the clock it says VIRUS ALERT!

I believe the virus came from a bad file brought out by the disk defragmentor. When I ran the Disk Defragmentor, a file showed up on my computer called, Antiviruspro 2008, I looked it up online and noticed it was a spyware virus. I had McAfee 5.0 before running it, after running the Defragmentor, The Antivirus got deleted, my Windows Automatic Update won't work anymore, and while i'm on the administrator name my registery has been blocked by the administrator. Hello

Problems started yesterday. Windows XP Home, 6 year old HP Laptop. I first noticed an redirect ad-popup problem sending me to a random page whenever i clicked on a link in google. I disabled the extension in Chrome and the problem seemed to go away. Next i noticed that i was loosing hard drive space. I was at over 600 Mbs remaining and I'm not down to 120MBs and falling occasionally. I believe the Virus/Torjan is also effecting my wireless connection, as it is now going in and out and struggles to reconnect despite reseting the router, etc. I can get on sometimes.

After noticing the loss of hard drive space i ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Quick Scan. Identified 31 issues, and I deleted them. I went back to 600MBs. Now I'm back to 120Mbs again, so I ran a Full Scan. Identified 2 Trojans (log is attached). I deleted them, but hard drive space didn't return.

I'm not sure how to correct this problem and I cannot read Anti-Malware logs. Please help.

Bill

i Hello,I recently purchased a refurbished Lenovo V570, Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, and did a clean reinstall of Windows using a Windows 7 Iso file. I have been in the process of uploading all the correct drivers and am having trouble with connecting to a wireless network. I can access the Internet via an Ethernet cable no problem. I have the Intel WiMax connection utility set up and in my device manager it shows all of my network adapters as recognized and having the correct drivers. It seems my problem is on the hardware radio switch. When I try to turn WiFi on with the Intel Wimax connection utility and with the Fn-F5 hotkey combination I get the message to "Turn on your wireless connection" or that my "hardware radio is off." Only thing is that I have physical hardware radio switch to the "on" position (the corresponding LED is not lit up either). Any ideas on what is wrong? I would think it has to do with the drivers but there are none with yellow exclamation marks or any other unknown drivers. Does the hardware radio switch device not show up in device manager or does it have a driver I might be missing? Please help!! Many thanks,Ben

Hi folks,

I'm running windows 7 on a Toshiba Satellite L500-1XL.

About 6 weeks ago, Windows refused to load.
I'd get the 'Toshiba' screen and then Windows startup splash, but then nothing but a black screen with a (moveable) mouse icon.

i couldn't get into safe mode, and Toshiba's built in recovery utility wouldn't work.
Even using the Toshiba 'Product Recovery" DVD was doing nothing, although the disk was making a few strange and repetitive clicks during that, so I suspected a faulty hard drive. (Possibly where the MBR was OK, but the data wasn't?)

Anyway I put in a replacement HDD (backups are a wonderful thing BTW!) and the recovery DVD loaded perfectly and all seemed well.

About 2 weeks later, I got the same problem
('Toshiba' screen Windows startup splash, but then nothing but a black screen with a (moveable) mouse icon; no safe mode; no recovery utility)

This time, however the Product recovery DVD worked fine first time.

Another 2 weeks go by and the same problem happens again; this time it took another HDD for the recovery media to work.

So my question is really what could be causing this fault?

Could it be a virus which is corrupting something which is preventing Windows from loading? And 'preventing' it so much that I can't even load the recovery utilities?

In which case could it also prevent the Product recovery DVD from loading?

Or am I looking at an intermittent fault with the HDD connector which is either physically d... Read more

Answer:Satellite L500-1XL - Strange Windows 7 Error - Virus Or Hardware fault?

> So my question is really what could be causing this fault?
I doubt it?s a virus or something like that but nothing is impossible.

From my experience the data on the HDD can be affected by different software tools.
In my case the data on the HDD was corrupt because the 3rd party software changed some files and the boot master record has been damaged.
I formatted the HDD and created new partitions.

I also use the CCleaner and I defragment the HDD several times in the week.
Since than the HDD and the data is ok and didn?t notice such symptoms anymore.

Maybe you should try this too?

When I try to boot my W520, I get a BIOS boot up error : "2100: Detection Error on HDD0 (Main HDD)". I am using PNY XLR8 240GB SSD. It worked fine for a month. I also have PGP installed and whole disc encrypted. I installed an update of Intel Management Engine Firmware and Intel Chipset, both are the latest from lenovo site because I was experiencing expreme slowness from my harddrive. Programs would freeze. Webpages would take forever to load..The next time I rebooted, I got the error. If I leave the SSD out for a bit, and put the SSD back in, the disk will work for some time... but on next reboot, it is again detection error.. TRIM is enabled on my system. I am not sure how the SSD died so quickly. I am back to using my HDD but I am not happy. I want a solution... is this a intel chipset issue? Intel IMEI issue? Is  the PNY SSD just a bad model? I've googled plenty and dont really see a solution. Sometimes there is a firmware update.. PNY has no firmware updates for my drive.. I don't see anybody else using PNY on their W520, but plenty of people are experiencing Error 2100 with SSD on their W520.. somethings fishy.. help please! thanks in advance !

Answer:W520: PNY XLR8 240GB SSD with error "2100: Detection Error on HDD0 (Main HDD)"

Hello,
I don't have a ThinkPad W520 or a PNY SSD, but could it be simply that the SSD is coming loose inside the ThinkPad's chassis?  I suppose this could occur if a 7mm high SSD was inserted into a 9.5mm high 2.5" drive bay with a ~2mm spacer to "pad" the unused vertical space.

I've had my T430 for about a year, and other than two Corsair RAM sticks failing my computer has been running smoothly. Last night, my computer suddenly froze up and now it won't recognize my SSD. Hello! First post on this forum but been browsing for some time. My machine: ThinkPad S430, type-model: 3364-5HG, Win 7 x64, 500 GB HGST HDD. My problem is notably similiar to this one: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht082504.The problem occurs on very irregular basis, at times a couple of times a day but other times it goes weeks between the interrupts. It starts with some sort of short mechanical sound from the HDD, similar to the one when you turn the laptop of by pressing and holding the power button (only do this if I absolutely have to, it feels like choking someone with a pillow). After the sound, the screen freezes for a couple of seconds before the short bluescreen mentioned in the link occurs. The rest is as follows by the link above. Basically the only difference is the HDD brand (HGST in my S430 and Samsung in the link). After reboot (with power button during the automated reboot after bluescreen when the error code occurs), the laptop works fine.  It's getting quite annoying when this happens and also the suspension of not knowing when it will happen next is not good for my heart. What to do? Thanks in advance! Regards,Nicholas

Hi, I have a month old T440s. It has the original 256GB SSD drive (didn't open\replace anything). After uninstalling some antivirus software win8 had problems booting. To make a long story short, I tried different things to fix the MBR and eventually got to the point of trying to do a full factory restore, which didn't work (it couldn't find the recovery partition). When I boot up now, I get the "2100: Detection Error on HDD0 (Main HDD)" error.Aside from trying to restore using Lenovo CD (shipped to me, will be here in a couple of days), what else cn be done and what caused this ordeal? I don't mind about the data on the SSD, I just really need my laptop functioning ASAP. Thanks for any advise you may have!

That error is coming from BIOS, it means there is something wrong detecting the mSATA SSD.  It could point to a hardware problem.  It is definitely not a software problem.  I would call the support line in your country, and ask what they recommend about it.

Hi guys, I fitted a 64GB Sandisk P4 mSATA SSD today in my week old X220 4287CTO & get this error, I thought it maybe the bios causing the problem as reported in the forum but the threads I have read seem to be the SSD not being recognized at all. Any help would be appreciated. Product SKU: 4287CTOProduct Name: ThinkPad X220 - 3 Yr Depot Topseller Warranty Intel Core i5-2410M Processor (2.3GHz, 3MB L3, 1333MHz FSB)7 Home Premium 64 English12.5" Premium HD (1366x768) LED Backlit Display, Mobile Broadband Ready, 2x2 Antenna2 GB DDR31333MHz (1 DIMM)Keyboard UKFingerprint Reader720p HD Camera20 GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpmNo Micro Solid State DriveThinkPad Battery 29+ (6 cell)Country Pack United Kingdom with Line cord & 65W AC adapterBluetooth 3.0Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 (2x2 AGN)Integrated Mobile Broadband - Upgradable

Yeah I am getting the exact same error 2101. Also X220 but 4286-CTO which I brought from US. The BIOS version is 1.17(highest I can find now).Wonder if it is a compatibillity problem or simply the bios is not programmed rightly.

I have an issue with a Lenovo X1 Carbon Touch Windows 8. It has a 512GB SSD. (Believe its Samsung)  Earlier today the computer frooze while saying plug in your charger, so I had to hold down the power button to do a forced shutdown. Upon turning it back on I got this error after hanging on the Lenovo logo for a good five minutes. Error: 2100: Detection error on SSD0 (M.2) The SSD is not visible anywhere not in BIOS or anywhere else. I've tried reseating it however it doesn't help. The BIOS is upto date, any I'm unable to update the SSD Firmware as I cannot get onto Windows as per the instrutions here - http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht082504 1. I cant update firmware for the SSD as I cant get onto Windows2. The BIOS firmware is the latest 3. I've taken the SSD out and put it back in4. Reset BIOS settings5. Disconnected Battery and left it for an hour I'm panicing as all my data is on there, I assumed it was safe as it's SSD.  Please can anyone assist?

Answer:X1 Carbon - SSD Failure? Error 2100: Detection error on SSD0 (M.2)

Sorry for a 2500 GBP laptop I'd expect better really. This is the SECOND X1 Carbon I've had out of 4 to fail me with the SSD. I've lost all my data (Yes I know I should have backed it up) that I'll never be able to recover. Ultimately I've given up on the brand of Lenovo, my company who supplies exclusively Lenovo hardware to our customers are now switching to Dell as a direct result of the lack of support and poor hardware/firmware design. Just ordered 2X Dell XPS 13's as a replacement for my less than 6 month old Lenovo X1 Carbon, never thought it would come to this but the lack of support, knowledge and consitant hardware failures has left me no choice, I can't operate or do my work on an Lenovo X1 Carbon, fingers crossed the Dell will be better as it cant get any worse than Lenovo. To anyone who has Google'd the error and found this thread some cold facts; According to my resources this error can be caused if the system is not shutdown, BSOD or sudden power loss. If it doesn't resolve itself, there is a good chance it wont. Cycle the computer numrous times, let the battery run flat. Try it a few more times. Reset the BIOS, Update the BIOS. Prevention is better than cure, supposedly updating the SSD Firmware might have prevented this from happening in the first place.Lots of reports that this is an issue with BIOS and Firmware issues that result in an early death. I can confirm this having happened twice to me on different generation and model... Read more

Model: T450sEquiped as:Intel i54+4GB RAM256GB SSD (M.2) Configured as boot disk running Win 7 x64500GB HDD as additional storage Issue:Seemingly at random, approx once every one to two weeks while PC is on and at the desktop but not actively being used (meaning no user is sitting in front of it performing tasks) it will error and crash.  The error is a black screen with the following error: 2101: Detection error on SSD1 (M.2) Press Esc to continue. According to the user Esc does nothing and the only escape is to long press the physical power button until a power down occurs.  On reboot the system comes up without issue.  No user has actually seen the crash take place.   MY QUESTION(S):1st.  Is this most likely an issue with the T450s not being able to reliably boot from the m.2 slot or is this more likely an issue with the SSD installed in the m.2 slot?2nd.  Is this something altogether different?  Any (knowledgeable) advice or info appreciated.

Answer:T450s Thinkpad - ERROR 2101: Detection error on SSD1 (M.2)

It is hard to diagnose without seeing it, but my experience has been that the Gen4 and later CPUs (like yours) support a very low power state that is incompatible with some devices. (that would make it a problem with the card) Make sure you have the latest BIOS and power manager software installed. Look in the device manager and find the M.2 SSD. There should be a power management tab. Turn off the option to allow the system shut the device off to save energy.

not sure which section this pertains to specifically, but "drivers" seems close enough.
issue

i recently upgraded to an sli graphics configuration. since upgrading, my previous method of avoiding the TDR driver crash has stopped working.
known fix that i can't get to work anymore

when running a single gpu, i could disable and uninstall the nvidia hd audio device, then disable and uninstall the hd audio controller under system devices. problem solved, no crashes.

after adding the second gpu, there are now two hd audio devices and two hd audio controllers. upon disabling or uninstalling either controller, the system automatically re-installs the hd audio devices previously uninstalled, which in turn causes the hd audio controller to re-enable/re-install itself.

to be clear, all hd audio devices and hd audio controllers on my system must be disabled AND uninstalled to prevent TDR (or, since the upgrade, full system freezes or restarts. sli = double TDR?)

Hello all,

my wife was on a website last night about nursery rhymes and she clicked on something and AVG instantly came up with a warning telling me that files 61883.sys, aec.sys and asyncmac.sys are infected with Trojan horse Agent_r.G. after looking u what the files were i believe them to be legitimate sys files, but could they get infected? We have pop ups for smileys and bingo and i can't start up safe mode.

Anyone have any ideas??

Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please follow the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST link given futher down and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

If you have problems where no tools seem to run, please try following the steps given in the below and then continue on no matter what you find. You only need to try the TDSSserv steps if having problems getting scans in the Read & Run Me First. If TDSSserv is not found, just continue on with the READ & RUN ME.

If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.

After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
Helpful Notes:

If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Greetings:My name is Jon. I have a Toshiba laptop, and recently received a virus (possibly through limewire, but I am not sure). I normally have AntiVir, but all full scans of the system come up without any detections. I then downloaded the free trial of Mcafee, and each time it finds trojans and tracking cookies. It cleans them up, but the initial virus that is causing all of this still remains. Here are the symptoms that let me know it's still here:Whenever I open Internet Explorer, a hidden file "idgrvecqmn" is created on my desktop. Also, whenever I try to search something (from Yahoo or Google) the links to the sites that come back all lead to advertisement pages instead of the desired page.Occasionally, Windows Explorer closes down as soon as I start my computer, and I have to ctrl-alt-dlt to restart the computer or at least restart Windows Explorer. This hasn't happened in the past day or two.The most recent symptom is back with Internet Explorer, as when it is in full-screen mode it does this weird thing where I cannot see the toolbar for Windows Explorer at the bottom of the screen (unless I minimize Internet Explorer or make it just a partial screen), and on the top where I would type in internet addresses it disappears until I scroll the mouse to the top of the screen. When I first ran McAfee it told me it didn't detect anything. Then the virus tried to do something (first time Windows Explorer crashed and had to be restarted) and now viruse... Read more

I know i have a virus as i cant view task manager or regedit without renaming them. My search function on the computer wont work either ( i cant view "serch files and folders" or what drive and whatever). also when on the the internet, i click to go to a page, and the progress bar will whizz to completion and say 'done' in the oposite corner but the page doesn't change. I thought i had the msclock.exe virus, but when i followed all instructions to remove it (rename regedit...go thru and find msclock.exe) it wasn't there. I then pressed edit and find, and serched for msclock.ex and it found it so i delted it. i hoped this would fix the probblem but it wouldn't. It also found when i searched for msclock.exe, bling, sasser.worm.e. Your log shows that you are seriously behind on windows updates. It is essential that you update your windows before we continue to help you as the infections could reoccur. Go to http://www.windowsupdate.com and if it asks to install software, let it. Then click on the Scan link and let it do its thing. When its done you will see on your left a section called critical updates. Click on that section and install everything that you can. When it prompts you to reboot, do so. Then repeat this process again until there are no more critical updates listed. Then post a new log.

Question: Virus detection

Hi there,

I clicked on a link in Facebook and I think it has given my machine a virus. I ran MSE which picked up 3 or 4 severe threatss. Have got MSE to remove these threats from my machine but my machine is still running slow. If I have to do a reinstall can windows easy transfer copy and reinstall my drivers. If not does anyone have any good free software links that will backup and reinstall my drivers? Im downloading AVG free just now to see if that can pick up anything. Have ran malwarebytes. I think this could be looking at a reinstall now. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Answer:Virus detection

Hi clark,

you only need one AV pkg - MSE seems to be favored around here. I don't have a dog in that fight, so since you have MSE, stick with it.

MalwareBytes (MwB) is a good companion to any AV software - keep MwB too. I'm not sure why you think you have to re-install (slowness?) if your system came up clean MSE, MwB). That's an awful big hammer to use, but.....

I was informed through e-mail from the [email protected] that a message I had sent to [email protected] contained a virus{ WORM-KLEZ.H} What does this mean? The mail message was (file:III.exe). Klez is a very smart virus. It may only appear to have been sent by you, because Klez spoofs the from address. THis is the case, unless you sent an email to that person, and you really have the virus.

In what way is the mouse cursor "acting funny"? Is the mouse not working? Is it not longer the arrow that it should be? "Acting funny" doesn't really say WHAT the problem is...

Posting this here, since it is mostly an OS related problem, not the Camera. I just now have started to have this problem. Normally, when I hooked up my Canon Powershot A75 I could just drag and copy my pictures I took. Any time I hooked up the camera to the USB spot on the back of my laptop XP would recognize and open the directory up. However, now any time I plug my Camera in, it shows it as an unrecognized USB device. The Camera is fine, but something went wrong under the hood with the USB set up. I tried reinstalling any drivers that are associated with the camera through the Canon website driver area, but it seems to have no effect and it still isn't recognized. Has anyone run into this problem before? I have two USB ports on the back of my computer which it lists as "Unused port" in the USB menu along with "unknown device" when I try to plug in the camera now. Is there a way to manually set the driver? I'm at a loss at what to do. Thanks to anyone who can offer even SOME help!

(When I check in the device manager and plug in the camera it gets listed as "unknown device." I can't seem to change the driver or set anything at all. Or even find the regular camera usb driver. Everything is as uptodate as possible. I don't know what else to do...)

Have you tired pluggin the camera into a different computer to make sure it is not a problem with it. You may also want to try a new cable if that does not work.

Answer:AVG Virus detection Javabyte HELP

Before you do anything else, please create a folder for HijackThis and put it in a permanent folder (like C:\HJT) instead of the Temp folder. This is required because HijackThis will create backups and we don't want them to be deleted.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

This should clear the java byte problem.

Select Java Plug-in

I have the exact same problem. Every ten minutes or so my AVG Internet Security find that same file, "83.133.124.199/inst_n105.exe"

my browser also trieds to open page that AVG reacts to and calls the file "searchaddca.org/cgi-bin/103". I don't know if it's connected in any way.

Malware bytes does not find anything, nor AVG. I hope someone knows of some way to get rid if this. It's so annoying.

Hey guys. I was scanning with SpyBot and it detected an infected file: WIN\SYS\TRNC.DLL. The message said it contained the virus "TR/Small.GS.2"

I deleted it, but my question is, why didn't my AV notify me? I use AntiVir Personal Edition 6.24. It's configured correctly, and I check for updates daily. Any ideas?

Thanks

Answer:Virus Detection Question

Either it wasn't listed in the virus definitions, or the virus itself falls under more of a spyware category than virus.

There is a fine line between malware and virus sometimes.

Machine is so slow I can't stand it any more. Don't know what to do!!

Answer:virus detection and removal

It would help you if you would list your system specs (Chip, Ram, Video card and MoBo at least) and a few details as to how long you've had the problem and some behavioral specifics.

When doing CTRL+ALT+DEL I get "Defscangui" running in the background. It seems to stop my doing a scan disk and defrag. Whilst doing scan disk, I get a message saying that this drive is already being used and scan disk has retried 10 times but cannot continue. I think it was something that I downloaded, have now deleted but it is still lurking. Can anyone help please?

Answer:Virus Scan detection

have a Trojan running on your system. Go to Symantec site ( Security Response ) and type Defscangui into the search box. It comes up with this click here
