Preferred Solution: generic driver for usb pendrive ?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi

Windows 10, integrated audio chipset on Realtek ALC887 motherboard.

Do you think there may be qualitative differences in sound output between using generic Windows drivers compared to specific Realtek?
At the time. With fresh installation windows, audio has been recognized and configured with generic drivers and works perfectly.

If there are no valid reasons to install the entire Realtek package, I would avoid it to install additional "no needed" software.

Thank you.

Hi there! Thanks for taking the time to help me out.

Yesterday, McAfee started detecting trojans in my system: Generic!Artemis, Generic.dx and Generic Rootkit.w

I don't know if these are three different trojans or one and the same. I'm not getting any pop-ups (apart from the mcafee warnings), but it is making my computer run slower and me very worried.

I'm running Windows XP Pro.

Any help most appreciated.

I can post a hijack this log if that's of any use.

Answer:Trojan: Generic!Artemis, Generic.dx and Generic Rootkit.w infection

Here are some of the details from the McAfee detection log ((I haven't listed all the files here because there are too many, so I'll just provide one example of each):

Detection name: Generic.dx (Trojan), Generic.dx (Trojan)

File: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\109.exe
Process: C:\windows\system32\svchost.exe
process description: generic host process for win 32 services

Detection Name: Generic!Artemis (Trojan)

File: E:\system volume information\_restore{5E0A6BCC-1246-45C3-BBAA-DBEC343BA767}\RP173\A0131417.exe
Process: C:\Program Fioles\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
Process description: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Detection name: Generic Rootkit.w (Trojan), Generic Rootkit.w (Trojan)
File: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\netsik.sys
Process: C:\Docume~1\Mike\Locals~1\Temp\BN7.tmp
Process description: (as process)

The generic.dx has been repaired and removed from 12 files so far by mcafee

The Generic!Artemis one has been quarantined from 7 files so far

The rootkit.w one has been repaired and removed from three files so far

Question: Generic driver

When I had Vista on the PC the webcam ran well with the drivers contained within Vista but when I upgraded to the "correct" driver the performance dropped.

Following a clean install of W7 the webcam again ran better on the generic driver but after I had done another clean install of W7, after an almighty foul up, the generic driver has vanished and I am left with the driver W7 tells me to download.

Can I get the generic driver back. I do not have a Vista installation disc, just the rcovery discs.

Cheers,
Richard

Answer:Generic driver

If you uninstall the device in Device Manager, and reboot, Windows 7 will do its best to find a driver for it. It will look in Windows Update.

That is the best you can do to get your generic driver back.

I have a Xerox P1210 Xerox will not support.
DocuPrint P1210 Drivers and Downloads

Is there such a concept as a generic driver, perhaps limited fucntionallity, but a driver none-the-less.

Answer:Generic Driver available?

Today I tried to use whatever Vista 64 might like to use. It worked perfectly. Perhaps Xerox chooses not to create a driver, but somehow the P1210 driver is in Vista.
I clicked
Start
Settings
Printer
Add Printer
Add a local printer
Create a new port:
entering the IP address of the HP Jetdirect print server, connecting my printer to the LAN
Then it asked which parrallel port - which confused me
I accepted Port 1 - the default
Selected finish
The printer was installed on the IP port (not parrallel) with a driver called Xerox P1210.
A simple print tested worked.
Printing a small PDF worked.
I suppose the driver has limitations, but my needs are met.

Hello,I have a 4 port USB hub (very generic, no real brand). It recognises it when I plug in to Win XP Pro SP2 as a USB HUb but it cannot find a driver for it. I'm at a real loss here as I have browsed a few forums and nobody seems to know how how to fix it.

Answer:NO Driver FOr Generic USB Hub 1.0 - 1.1

You shouldn't need one in XP. Just plug it in and you should see the drive with it's associated drive letter in 'My computer'. Just double click on it to access.I have two running on my XP machine and have not needed drivers, just plug n' go. I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong) that drivers would be required if trying to use the drive on a machine prior to XP - Win98 etc.

I installed DOS 6.22 on a 486DX 233mh. motherboard along with windows 3.1 OS The mouse (serial) does not work. The mouse has no name to try and find a driver.

Is there a simple way to get the mouse to be recognized?

Answer:Generic Mouse driver

Windows 3.1 came with a default PS/2 mouse driver.
Sometimes the IRQ setting with the mouse may conflict with another device installed on your motherboard - most often the modem.
To resolve this IRQ conflict:

1. In the Main group, choose the Control Panel icon.

2. In the Control Panel window, choose the Ports icon.

3. In the Ports dialog box, select the COM port for the mouse. Normally the mouse is eaither on COM1 or COM2.

(The mouse uses a different driver for MS-DOS-based applications than
it does for Windows-based applications.
Do not install a modem on COM3 if you have a mouse on COM1, or a modem
on COM4 if you have a mouse on COM2 - unless your machine or serial I/O
card supports IRQ sharing.)

and then choose the Settings Button.

4. In the Settings dialog box, choose the Advanced button.

5. Open the Interrupt Request Line (IRQ) list box, and select 12 (this is the default PS2 mouse IRQ.

6. Choose the OK button twice to exit the settings dialog boxes, and
then choose the Close button to exit the Ports dialog box.

You may need to reboot the computer, but this should solve the problem (if it is a IRQ conflict, as I suspect).

We have just bought a bog standard PC Line 8 button USB joypad (which also has a wheel type thing with arrows) and when we try to install it we are asked to insert the Win 98SE CD, which we don't have as we were daft enough to buy a PC from PC World. The master CD which came with the PC does not have the required files on it. I have managed to get the files it asks for from driver guide but when I run the set up it asks for further, different files. I'm afraid to keep downloading these files incase I mess up the PC. Is there a generic driver I can download to solve this problem ort should I just keep downloading the files until I have them all? Many thanks in advance.

My system is currently using the generic PnP Monitor driver but the resolution will not go higher than 1024x768. This is an issue because all of my windows now have scroll bars for left and right. Grrrrrrr

Is there another generic driver that I can use to get a higher resolution? Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Hello guys.

Every single USB flash drive worked perfectly so far, no problems at all. Until now, no matter what drive I connect, Vista does not seem to recognise it. Device manager states that the best generic volume driver is already installed but I can see the exclamation mark indicating wrong driver being installed... I think I've tried every single trick to uninstal/reinstall/fix the driver. Nothing has helped.

I am asking you for help now as I am out of ideas and have no fclue of what should I do.

Hello xMichael, Try system restore back a few days it should make vista use the correct driver...If your still having issues I remember an old command to make device manager to show all installed "ghost devices" that maybe causing a conflict.

"Taran" suggested downloading a startup disk for Windows 98, which is what I want to to install. I did so and started my PC with the disk in the A drive but when it started it just said 'remove disk and press any key to return to DOS' Is there anywhere I can just download a generic driver for my CD drive?

Answer:Generic driver for D: drive

Windows 98 startup diskettes have a generic CD driver on them. Perhaps you haven't got a standard startup diskette. The message you get is not one I would associate with a normal startup diskette. You don't have an old type CD drive connected to a sound card by any chance? - these need different drivers altogether.

Hi there,

Could do with some help. I saw another thread in this forum with the same issue but it was closed to post so I created this one. Just purchased a webcam to use on my pc with windows XP. Plugged it in and didn't go through the PnP wizard and is pretty much not seen. Device manager sees it as 'USB Composite Device' and the driver is 5.1.2600.0 and is dated 2001. Windows update doesn't find anything newer but the camera isn't working right and there must be a newer driver somewhere I just can't find it.

I read in the other post that someone could find out what driver would work with the Device Instance Id? I googled it but came up with nothing so if anyone could help out that would be great, the ID is
USB\VID_1908&PID_2311\5&243B83A0&0&1

Thanks in advance,

I'm running W2K pro with service pack 4, and I recently snagged a dirt-cheap USB webcam off of sellout.woot. When I plug it in, Windows begins running its wizard—Found New Hardware - USB Web Camera—but then decides that it can't find a suitable driver via Windows Update.

There is no trademark anywhere on the camera housing. I even popped that open and took a peek inside; nothing that I could identify as a make or model number. I've found another seller with the same item for sale here, which lists it as plug and play. Sadly, I've not found this to be the case. Any ideas on how I can get this to work with my system, short of upgrading the OS?

I have Windows XP Pro. I formatted the disc and everything went fine until i had trouble installing a new printer. So i guess i deleted a "generic printer driver" ( I Was trying to install my printer, but since it kept giving me error messages what i did several times was to delete the driver and re-install). I guess i deleted a generic driver because now everytime i turn on the computer it finds a new hardware called "printer" but it cant find the driver!! So it is very annoying that everytime i turn on the computer even if i fallow the instructions on the plug and play screen, the computer never finds the driver. If i check what drivers are installed there is no visible information that there is a problem with any of the drivers. I am going crazy and do not know what to do but to re-format again my drive and install everything again. Any suggestions?

I have several HDD's on which Windows XP Pro SP2 is installed. My system has a GENERIC DVD+RW 4XMax drive and an ATAPI CD-RW 52X24.
To my recollection, only maybe one of all of these HDD's will allow the generic ATAPI CD-RW 52X24 to read and write discs.

a device utility, DVD Info Pro http://www.dvdinfopro.com reports the device as such:
another utility, BenchmarX shows the device GUID as: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} -- same as my GENERIC DVD+RW 4XMax

any ideas for what i might do rather than throw it in the trash? when it does function, it seems to do a fine job of burning at high speed, and reading... so i'm guessing it must be a driver or OS configuration problem

thanks!

'Kinda puny priority inquiry here...

I acquired a secondhand mouse. It's not bad... wireless and USB. It has two extra buttons on the left side. These are apparently rigged to send Alt-Left-Arrow and Alt-Right-Arrow respectively, because when I am using my browser those buttons trigger the Back and Forward functions. What if I want to disable or change the behavior of those extra buttons? This is a totally generic mouse: instead of a manufacturer name it merely says, "Made in China". I did a cursory search on the Web for a generic driver for 4-button mice (for Windows Vista) and failed to find anything of use.

Your thoughts appreciated ... thanks!

Obviously impossible as nothing is known about the brand name and model of the microscope. Also, one does need to be careful buying from online offerings, may not always get exactly as described and whether complete. The only suggestion is to contact the maker of the microscope to see if they ever updated their software to work on a new OS/Operating System.

Working on a fresh install of Windows Ultimate. Got everything in place, programs, etc. Still trying to troubleshoo the built-in webcam problem (not starting up, "Need WIA driver" stuff). I found a driver for it from the manufacturer but right away I noticed it didn't work, the cam didn't work and so I attempted to roll back the driver. I then noticed that generic icons replaced many of the icons in my Start menu and task bar. I decided to do a system restore back to the point before I tried the new driver. No dice. Same problem exists.

Then I went searching the forums for some ideas, many of which include deleting and rebuilding the icon cache, making the cache bigger, cleaning the dead entries from the registry, etc. I tried manually fixing the icon (replacing them) but the "change icon" command returns "cannot find" icon file. I went to look in the Windows/Installer folder and there is NOTHING in there except for a $PatchCache$ folder. The shortcuts for the generic icons do lanch their applications properly, fortunately.

I've tried a lot of stuff, but nothing seems to work. This is so annoying. I put a lot of work into rebuiliding this system and I don't want to have to rebuild it all over again. All because of a stupid, lousy little web cam driver!!!

Hello everyone,

I would like to request some of your help yet again...

It seems that a Transcend JetFlash 110 256Mb USB 2.0 is malfunctioning... on the previous day it was working just fine, but when I plugged it in the next day, it detected New Hardware, and it started installing a driver which logically isn't the one that my drive uses, since it's new driver name was "USBest USB2FlashStorage Device". It has detected the drive in My Computer, but when I open the drive given, it returns the message of "Please insert a disk into Drive."

Is there anyway to fix it...? Or, if it is not possible to keep on using it, is there any way to salvage the files stored in it?

Thanks for your help and time in advance.

My computer one day decided to 'configure updates' for 3 hours. After that most of my system drivers were gone. I restored quite a few e.x. audio and cpu. But the files for the monitor driver were just two files.

monitor.inf
monitor.sys

Any ideas on how to install this? Much obliged.

Answer:Odd Generic PnP Monitor Driver Files

Oh, and this was the file if you don't know what it is.

I googled it and found TSF, someone had this already. Just he formatted his PC from XP to XP.
I believe this occured due to drivers loss, because I have downgraded from W7 to XP.

So thing is my display driver - Standard VGA Graphics Adapter.

I have a Panasonic CF-51ECCDBBM Model.

So here is what happened---

I was a frequent user of the OS - Windows XP and my driver worked fine, I could play many low quality and few high quality games. But I tend to get infected when I was on XP. So I switched to a new OS - Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit (6.1, Build 7601) it automatically installed a the current driver I have as of now. When I try to play games on it, they will not work. When I try to play the Windows 7 Card game it lags terribly. I have done things such as the Windows Experience Index, Updating my driver via device manager, dxdiag, and several blogs and help sites. If possible can anyone help me or reccommend drivers that are compatible with my current OS and is substantially better than the piece of crap driver I have now?

Answer:Compatibility, VGA Standard Generic Non-PnP Driver.

terkking, welcome to the Seven Forums.

The reason nothing is working properly is because it is using the default Windows 7 driver, which provides just enough to get an image on the screen. Unfortunately from what i can find about that model of laptop,

Panasonic Toughbook 51 Notebook (CF-51ECCDBBM) in Notebooks at Dazzit! (USA)

is it has the old ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 graphics in it, and there is not now and never will be a Windows 7 driver for it. About the best you're going to get for it is the last XP driver for it. You are also going to have to use whatever driver Panasonic has available for it as the reference ATI driver will not install on it.

If you're feeling adventurous you can try using this,

Mobility Modder - ATI Version, Install the Latest Drivers on your ATI laptop

on this version of ATI driver,

ATI Catalyst 9.3 WHQL Windows XP 32-bit download from Guru3D.com

and it might then install. Regardless of which you go for you will likely have to use compatibility mode,

Compatibility Mode

to get it to install.

Does anyone know if there is a driver that will work with most Flash drives?
(or as they are also known: Thumb drives, Flash stick, Finger drives etc etc...)

Answer:Generic Driver For USB Flash Drives?

Most have subtle differences and under older OS would probably not recognise another driver, but under Windows XP no driver is needed anyway

To know if I should reinstall the driver, hope you can answer all my questions, thank you very much

Answer:installed generic driver? y410p

hi DemonicLink,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Your system i think did an update,
Just be sure you are using Nvidia Driver
Microsoft Generic Driver should say  Microsoft  under driver provider in Device Properties.

Microsoft Generic Driver

Manufacturer provided Driver (Nvidia)

Hope this helps
Cheers!

generic audio driver detected not working

Okay, first, this has been asked here before, and second, I'm being incredibly cheap, as you'll see here.

I have an Acer 320U scanner. Purchased in 2000. For (not making it up) $20 after rebate. So I've certainly gotten my money's worth out of it as I used it on Windows 98, 2000, and XP systems.

Today I tried to use it for the first time on my Windows 7 64-bit installation and got the "driver not found" message when I plugged it in.

Searching these forums and google, I found Vuescan and Sliverfast recommended for people in my predicament.

Downloaded and installed Vuescan, and it worked! Not as elegantly as the scanner had with XP, but I could scan.

But unless I purchase Vuescan, it leaves ugly watermarks on my scanned documents.

I know the "right" thing to do would be to go and buy a scanner for the first time in 11 years. But I use the scanner so rarely that it doesn't seem worth the effort.

Wondering if there is a source out there for free "generic" scanner drivers, for products like mine that are not supported for Windows 7.

Answer:Generic free scanner driver for 64-bit?

Hello there, have you tried to add a device in "Printers and Devices"?

Connect your Scanner, go to Printers and Devices, click on Add Device, Windows will try to recognize your device, if Windows can't identify it, it'll give you a list for you to choose, i'm sure there should be Scanners there, try to find the one that match (Acer 320U or similar) and install the driver, it worked for me with an OLD ribbon printer (Citizen)

Hi,
i'm having some trouble playing any games on my PC. It's usually a Directx error. I'll go to the dxdaig. and under the notes it says "The system is using the generic video driver. Please install the driver provided by the hardware manufacturer."

I downloaded the drivers for my video card. which is an ATIvideo card. I'm not 100% sure if i did it right, or got the right driver for it.
And while trying to run a call of duty an error shows up saying Directx has encountered an unrecoverable error. and the program just quits. It's very fristrating.

I've downloaded Directx 9.0c and am still having this problem.

Answer:The system is using the generic video driver?

Welcome to TSF

Are you using integrated graphics? If your PC is a desktop system with a graphics card expansion slot on the motherboard you should seriously consider adding an nVidia 6600GT card or better, and using that rather than the integrated graphics. The performance improvement would be dramatic for ALL your gaming! If it's a laptop with no provision to add an alternative graphics card then perhaps you should resign yourself to playing less demanding games.
You should ensure that the version of DirectX installed on your system is the most recent 9.0c version. The full 33M installation package can be downloaded from Microsoft and downloading it will give you more flexibility for reinstalling and correcting problems than the usual Internet installation.
Alot of hits on Google about this same issue and the same suggestions were better graphics card.

Hi, here's my deal...
I have...A Dell 166 Optilpex. I have a Sony CD ROM I think its like a 8x. I went out to Sonys site and got the driver for it. I tried loading it but it still does not work...I tried another driver for it from another site and still cant get it to work...Im trying to get it to work so I can load WIN-98, and I also tried booting up with WIN-98 to get the cd drivers off of it but it does not recognize the CD....
Is there another route I can take to get it to work...like maybe a generic driver or something??

Thanks..

Answer:Is there a way to load a generic CD Driver for a older CD Rom???

Yes you could most likely get a generic driver to work for you. You might want to try Acer, Mitsumi, and a few other older drivers and try them out. I'm sure you'll find one that works.

So I have an HP DV4130US here and it would seem some way or another the keyboard driver got deleted. The keyboard seems fine, I can use it to get into the BIOS and check stuff out but it doesn't work in XP. The funnmy thing is, is that you can still use the function keys [FN] and there are drivers for that feature in Device Manager.

Is it possible to get generic drivers for the standard 102 key keyboard, or is it looking like an OS reinstall? I believe a system restore didn't work as well . . .

My desktop computer has two soundcards, one for playback which is a CMedia CMI8738 5.1 soundcard for playback, and a Crystal Soundfusion CS4614A for recording purposes.

The Microsoft supplied generic driver for the CS4614 sound card worked great until I decided to find better drivers for the card. I went to Driverguide.com and downloaded a set of drivers that work on Windows XP (though they were designed for Windows 2000). The drivers work well, and they unlock features that the generic MS driver couldn't use such as hardware MIDI. There is one problem now....the recording feature is now severely imparied. With the generic MS driver, Audacity would list all the inputs of the recording mixer (Line-In, Microphone, etc), but with the drivers I installed, Audacity can no longer see the inputs, and only one option, "Wave" is listed. I preferred the old setup because you can have Audacity adjust the recording level without actually adjusting the volume of the source, and with the new drivers, I can no longer do this. Thus why I want to revert to the Windows XP supplied CS4614 driver that came on the WinXP CD-ROM, but I can't seem to install it. I also tried rolling back the driver to no avail.

Is there any way to revert to the Microsoft supplied driver for my Crystal SoundFusion card?

Answer:Reverting to a generic sound driver

Go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In the Device Manager, under Sound Video and Game Controllers find your Driver, Right click it and choose to Update Driver. Choose to Install from a List. Choose Dont' Search. In the next window it should list the Microsoft Driver and the Updated driver that is highlighted. choose the Microsoft driver and click Next. It should roll back to the older driver.

I have an on-board sound card, nothing fancy. I ****ing hate realtek's equalizer, its bass boost is shit. So i'm asking for help to get it back so it would look as the pic above.

Does anyone know how I could do this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, Here is a screenshot of my current audio panel.

I don't have a realtek sound card but have you tried to uninstall with "delete driver" selected? This will give you the "High Definition Audio Device" and you should get the original Windows 7 equalizer

I have a Dell E6520 laptop running Win 7/Pro SP1 64 bit with 8 GB RAM, i5 processor.

In the "optional" Windows updates list are several driver updates (printer, network, graphics). In the past (some time ago, and not on this computer), when I tried to install a driver update using Windows update, the result was a disaster. Ever since, I have refused to update any drivers - perhaps I am too paranoid. I searched this forum and found this thread:

If all the devices in the computer are working properly, there's no compelling reason to update their drivers."
OK, is there general agreement by those contributing to this forum to not update drivers? If there is no "compelling reason" to update drivers, what is the primary reason driver updates are released? How risky are 3rd party driver/app update applications such as the Secunia Personal Software Inspector (yes, I realize this app covers more than drivers)?

FWIW: "At BleepingComputer.com, we are big fans of Secunia PSI."

Is there such a driver? I just upgraded to XP from 2K. New computer has no PS/2 ports, only USB. So I'm having to use an adapter. But I lost my old driver cd and I cant get them any more.

So does microsoft put out a generic infrared barcode scanner drive just like they do with display types?

Example I can force any monitor/lcd to use the generic 1280x1024 driver in windows.

If I could do that with the barcode scanner that would be great, since windows does detect the device, just as an unknown device.

I have a Westinghouse TV that I'm using as a monitor. I don't have a specific driver for it, nor do I think one exists. The generic Windows monitor driver worked fine for about a month with Windows 8 (via new Lenovo desktop ? which pumped out 1920x1080 over HDMI, and which is the native resolution of the monitor. Life was good!)

Yesterday morning I updated to 8.1, and today I'm letterboxed. The image is clear and the correct aspect ratio, but it's just smaller and I'm wasting a couple inches of screen space all around. I've tried changing the resolution and rebooting various times. At one point the imaged pulled all the way out, left/right, but not top/bottom. It's the Lenovo/AMD-Radeon/Win8.1 machine ? not the monitor which still works fine with other machines. (albeit via VGA, not HDMI ? which is a manual source setting change in the monitor.)

- AMD Radeon HD 7560D (Lenovo box)
- Windows 8.1 (online update from 8 OEM)

This is the problem since updating to 8.1 ? some kind of driver update-problem-something.

I'm thinking I delete the AMD Radeon HD 7560D line-item from my Device Manager, and then when I reboot, it will be found and reinstalled. That's what I would have done with XP anyway.

Or I could uninstall the driver from within the AMD Radeon properties window above (Drivers tab) ? but I'm afraid I will lose the screen and a reboot won't fix that, and then I'm stuck with re-imaging the OS fro... Read more

Hi All,

I have an issue where the Generic volume shadowcopy driver installs at least once every time I do a windows backup. This suddenly started happening last saturday but I just noticed it yesterday. I thought that it must be connected with the install of Malwarebytes (paid version) on Friday but I put in a service request and they say not. Also it continues to happen after I have completely uninstalled MBAM.

I really have no idea what is causing this or whether it is a problem I should be worried about. Apart from this backups appear to be operating normally.

If this card came with the computer and you know the model number witch should be located on it somewere you could go to dell's website and download the driver on another computer.

You could also download and install Everest http://www.majorgeeks.com/EVEREST_Free_Edition_d4181.html it should tell you the manufactuer of the card and you can go to their website and get the driver

Hallo, I'm working on an answer file for an image, and I was looking at making sure I had the proper LAN drivers and a couple other things so the auto join to domain and such worked properly. However we don't have necessarily all the same models of laptops, so I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not Lenovo has a generic LAN suite for laptops and desktops that might auto detect and install at least which LAN driver is needed, I'd rather not install three or so LAN drivers, or run three or more images just for a LAN drive if possible. We've got a small and consistently busy helpdesk group, so I was trying to automate as much as possible. Thank you in advance for your time!

Running Windows 7, 64 in a Dell Inspiron. My old Epson Perfection 1240U will not work - Seiko Epson has no 64 bit drivers for it. Does anyone? Is there some generic driver I can use? Windows 7 gave up trying to match it and it put me on the Epson site, so now if I can't get anything that works I am screwed. My computer abilities are "intermediate", by the way.

Thanks for any inventive replies. cwb

I purchased through eBay a USB 3.0 PCIe card with a generic host card and VIA Labs, inc VL805 chip. The minl CD with driver software was corrupted, so I had to acquire the driver from VIA's website. The driver software installed and the card is functional. However, I'm only seeing about twice USB 2.0 speeds when transferring data to 3.0 external storage devices. VIA's website says that all their drivers for the VL800 series host controllers require the latest firmware upgrade to work properly. Does this mean that since my Adapter card is not produced by VIA and can't receive the necessary firmware upgrade, the driver cannot reach full functionality ?

Hey All,
Here is my problem.
I had a 64MB Flash drive (USB) given to me. It was a Hitachi USB drive (pen drive/thumbdrive/flash drive - whatever).
There were no drivers whatsoever with it. It was a gift.
I gave it to a friend to use. She has Windows 98.
So, no drivers, didnt recognise the USB drive.

Now, I have been trying to find some drivers that will make the darn thing work. Couldnt find specific drivers. So I searched for generic drivers for USB Mass Storage Devices for Win98, on the net.
came up with some files like usbstor.sys. Didnt seem to work at all.

Even took off the usbstor.sys, usbstor.inf and usbstor.pnf files from an XP machine and tried working it. They seemed to load alright on a windows 98 machine i have here. But the drive never shows up in Windows Explorer.
Did different things, reinstalled. removed, restarted, etc.

Nothing workd. I read somewhere about a pdr file that needs to go in an IO folder too. Not tried that yet. Too tired right now to try something new.

I would like to know if any of you guys have any generic drivers that has already been tried and tested to load a flash drive.

Thing is, my friend is in germany. And I aint.
Tomorrow, i plan to try hooking the USB drive (another HItachi which was given to my colleague too) and see what XP detects it as and then try to search for those OEM drivers. (Fingers crossed)

Till then, any inputs will be greatly appreciated.
(I have even searched the threads before posting this. DIdnt come across ... Read more

hi folks, after tying a dozen driver download sites (or better to be called sitez) and a dozen virus warnings I'd like to ask the question here:
I know that there's a generic USB scanner driver,  costs 29 $ and does the job for nearly every scanner that is able to report to be an USB scanner with some basic capabilities.

Does such a thing exist for Webcams as well? I don't want to buy another one becuase the manufacturer decided to decline the product after 3 years :-(

Pls don't come up with "ey man look in the device manager". I already did - and for the Kodak EZ200 is no such a thing available. The cam was on the market at 2000-2001 so the best I could get was a modified Windows 2000 driver that also installs
on XP up to SP2, with SP3 the OS says "unsigned driver". The device ID'are this:
USB\VID_040A&PID_0300&REV_0100
USB\VID_040A&PID_0300
And don't tell me "download it her" or "download it there" because it ALWAYS comes up with something called mostly "driveridentifier.exe" or "registryscan.exe" but not with that the website claims to have. This has
spread like a pest in the internet and I know that nearly all USB capable web cams can do VGA or QVGA....

Answer:Windows 7 x64 - real generic cam driver for USB web cams

MD
Your PID matches the Kodak ez200 and there is an XP driver here, BUT that wont work in win 7 unless you install it in compatibility mode.
To Run in compatibility mode do the following:

Right click the installer>properties>compatibility>choose OS

Hi,

I'm looking for the driver for the USB devide with the following details:
* "USB Device"
* VID (Vendor ID) 0930 (== TOshiba)
* Product ID = 0400

I'm running windows XP. While trying to install a printer, I had to update the usb driver, which caused all my usb ports to stop working. After that I uninstalled the USB drivers for windows to reinstall them uppon reboot, but it failed to do so. As a result, none of my USB ports are currently working anymore, and I have one USB device not recognized in the device manager

One friend having the same PC has identified this device as "generic USB hub' on his PC. Where/how to find the corresponding driver?

Thanks,
Franck

Answer:Satellite 5005-S504 need Generic USB Hub driver

Hi

For usage of USB ports on your machine you don?t need any ?special? driver and you will not find anything on Toshiba download page. After WXP installation the ports are recognized properly.

I really don?t know which driver you try to configure but usually the driver must be installed for connected device and not for existing USB ports. As far as I know this unit has USB 2.0 and there should not be any problem.

Maybe helps!

Good luck!

I have an older Logitech Wingman Formula GP steering wheel that needs to be plugged into a 15-pin game port. I bought a new sound card with the game port and installed it. My speakers are working fine. When I went to the Logitech website and downloaded the gaming software, the README file specifically states that Windows XP doesn't recognize their software and I need to install a generic game port driver for Win XP in order to use my steering wheel. I can't find this driver on the Windows or Microsoft websites, and Win XP no longer is supported by Updates. I really, really don't want to throw away this perfectly good steering wheel and purchase one with a USB connection (minimum $100). Anybody got a link to the driver I need? So much appreciated!

Greetings to you!

I have endeavored to expound this problem to the extremity of my capacity. I am using a Canon MultiPass C530 Printer. Due to reasons I will not explain, here, for brevity, the driver intended for use with the printer is not capable of running on Windows Xp. Through my probing, I found the existence of a generic text/ only driver included in the driver list. This driver is supposedly compatible with most printers. I set the driver up successfully, and I see the generic text/only printer in the printer list. The printer, the C530, is connected via port USB001. Now, I go to print a document in notepad, I see the printer icon appear as typical in the toolstrip (at the lower right-hand corner). It is there momentarily and then goes away. I watched closer, by actually displaying the active jobs of the printer and noticed that when I click 'Print' on any application, it appears for several seconds before disappearing from the list; it behaves almost as if it has printed successfully. Now, further probing into the properties of the printer, I discover that there are fields that are able to be filled in. Now, peripherals are not my forté, and I am rather unexperienced with the text only driver. These fields that can be filled in are under the 'Printer Commands' tab displayed when using this driver. Apparently, they are PCL commands, such as Begin Print Job and End Print Job. There are also options in the other pane for Bold selection and more. I... Read more

A few years ago, I used to play Diablo II on my computer with no problems. Since then, I have gotten a newer video card (Radeon 7500) and have gotten a newer version of DirectX . When I recently reinstalled D2, the video test failed, telling me that no modes were found. It told me to download the latest video drivers for my card, so I downloaded the corresponding Omega drivers. Then when I tried to play the game I got the message:

"Error 22: A critical error has occurred while initializing DirectDraw."

here is what comes up when I run dxdiag:

The video card shows up in the Device Manager, but dxdiag says that I am using the generic video driver...

Answer:Forced to use generic driver(can't detect video card??)

yeh only use the official drivers...omega drivers are known to not be fully compatible
