Application settings aren't saving on restart

Question: Application settings aren't saving on restart

I have a problem in that a few applications arent remebering their settings each time I restart my pc (win xp pro sp2). For instance, in outlook i went into email account settings and selected to leave email on the server. I go back after a reboot and see that it is no longer set. Also, i had set winamp to dock in minimised mode to top of the screen but when i reboot it appears undocked half way down the screen. Anyone any ideas why? I'm suspicious there is one windows settings file for all apps that should be saving these settings but isn't doing its job?

Preferred Solution: Application settings aren't saving on restart

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Application settings aren't saving on restart

No ideas :(But this will bump it back to the top of the list at least

I use a Logitech M310 wireless mouse on my Win 7 computer, and I prefer a fast speed. So I typically right click on my desktop and then go to the Personalize screen. From there I click on Change Mouse Pointers, Pointer Options, and then I select a fast pointer speed.

But each time I restart my computer, my fast pointer speed is lost and I'm back to where it started at medium speed.

How can I get my mouse settings to save? My settings for Desktop Background and Screen Saver are saved, but not my mouse pointer speed. Thanks in advance.......

Answer:Wireless Mouse Settings Aren't Saved in Restart

Have you installed the Logitech mouse software, if not, go to the Logitech website & find the M310 mouse & locate the software download for it making sure you have either the 32 bit or 64 bit version that your Windows 7 is. Download it & then install it.

This will provide you with a program that you can use to customise your mouse settings.

On the, fortunately rare, occasions when I have to restart, my settings appear to revert to some sort of default situation. This is not really a problem except for the speed of the cursor, cotrolled by the mouse. I have a large screen monitor and set the cursor speed to fairly fast, but on restart, it reverts to its normal slow speed. How can I set the default speed to fast?

Answer:Saving settings on restart

When you set the speed, do you click `OK` before closing the window?

I'm having a major problem with XP Home Edition. When I start my computer, I get the Loading Settings screen, which automatically switches to the Saving Settings screen and then goes back to Loading Settings, Saving Settings, etc, etc, (the "Windows XP Startup" and "Windows XP Shutdown" sounds repeat themselves one right after the other). By the way, I have the XP tweak that skips the Welcome and log on screens at startup since I'm the only person that uses the computer. I've tried Debugging, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Restore To Last Working Settings and a few others, but nothing is working. I ran Spybot just before shutting down the computer the last time it worked and got the "Congratulations! Your system contains no spyware" message. When I restarted the computer, I started having this problem. I also have Norton Anti Virus 2004 and did a Live Update (manually) a few hours before this started happening. Anyway, I realize this is probably a virus, (even though I haven't downloaded anything other than virus definitions in the past few days) and I have no clue what to do now. The XP restore disks aren't doing any good because I can't get past the Loading Settings, Saving Settings screens. Any suggestions?

**When I do the Safe Mode with command prompt, I get the list of partitions or whatever, and then it stops at the bottom of the screen and does nothing. If I press a button on the keyboard, I go right back to... Read more

Basically I'm trying to get rid of the delay between pressing a key and being able to use the mouse. When I pressing keys I can't use the mouse at the same time - there is a short delay until the touchpad kicks into action. Very annoying when playing games. I fixed it before, but since updating the driver it's a problem again.

I went to settings>devices>mouse & touchpad, and underneath "Touchpad" it says "To help prevent the cursor from accidentally moving while you type, change the delay before clicks work". I changed it from "Medium delay" to "No delay (always on)". I thought this is what I did to fix it before, but maybe I'm wrong.

Doing that hasn't seemed to make a single bit of difference, even after restarting a couple of times. I messed around a bit, and noticed that when I tried something as simple as changing the primary mouse button from the left to the right, that didn't change either. Even after restarting. But the strange thing is that when I go back to settings, it's still showing up that it is changed (AKA the right mouse button still set as the primary button - despite the fact that the left is still working as the primary, and the right is still right-clicking). Which leads me to believe that maybe changing the touchpad setting to "No delay (always on)" IS the right setting to fix my problem - but it just won't take effect.

I have installed windows 10. Everything working fine. Just one thing. I cannot open the settings. When I click the settings it just giving a glimpse and then disappears. How do I solve this problem?

Answer:Why aren't settings opening in Windows 10?

If you go to the Windows Feedback app in your PC, then click on Apps and then Settings in the left Window, you should see that the same problem has been reported by different users. You may click on "Upvote" to indicate to Microsoft that there are more users that are experiencing the same problem.
If this is a software-level problem, perhaps an update that will be released in a future, but not so distant future, date will fix it.

I tried this a couple times with a couple different apps but get the same results.
I have two applications (WAMPmanager and speedfan) that, when started, put an icon in the tray. I scheduled tasks to run at startup for these two applications and did a reboot.
WAMPmanager and speedfan both start (although it takes quite a while), but neither produce the icon in the tray.
I have also tried putting app shortcuts in the start folder (shell:startup) but neither would start.
1. Is there something special I need to do to get the icons in the tray when I start the apps at windows startup?
2. Is there some reason it takes around 30 seconds to hear my fans start to slow down (meaning speedfan has started)? In windows 7 they would slow down immediately.

I have my power plan set to Energy Star with display brightness set around 40% when on battery and 100% when plugged in. It seems to get reset periodically to the default which 40% for both battery and plugged in. I haven't been able to reliably reproduce the problem but every few days the plugged in setting gets reset to 40%. Is this a known problem with Windows 7?

Answer:Power plan settings aren't persistent

Hello Goob, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I've had this happen to me on my laptop a few times as well. It seems to be either happening after a graphics driver update, or after some unknown Windows Update that seems to reset this setting.

You might check your Windows Updates history to see if something has been installed when it happens next to see if you notice the same thing or not.

Hope this helps some,
Shawn

Hi, I am having trouble with the Power Plan Settings. The default settings were not what I wanted so I have tried to change them several times. I chose NEVER, on all options, saved them and even rebooted a couple times. The settings in Ctrl Panel stay at what I changed them to but the computer does not recognize them. It continually goes to sleep, display goes down after 1 minute of being idle.

I tried contacting the Live Chat, explained my issues, told her what I had already done, and now was contacting them. She didn't ask me any questions other than what I had done to troubleshoot and sent me to a link that explains what I already knew and done several times. No help at all...I've been searching for help on the net and finally found this forum. I am hoping that someone here has had the same issues and knows what I can do. It also won't accept my change requiring a password when I sign into the computer. I don't want to have to sign in. changed that to NO, but it still requires a password.

I also made sure my windows has all the updates.

Thanks for any help. Nothing worse than reading in an idle mode only to have the screen go down after 1 minute, requiring I sign back in..

Kathy

I'm not well enough inform with computer tech to know the proper terms, so forgive my ignorance as I try to describe my problem. Thanks in advance...
I only use this computer for personal and reference, not for gaming. I just need to be able to read the screen, so there is probably a lot to this machine I don't need. But it just started this weird fluttering onscreen...like it is trying to adjust itself but never gets to that point. It leaves me looking at trails of shadows after everything (words, picks stc.) on screen. Windows Fix-it says it has something to do with the AERO settings and that my graphics card does not support it. I have had this computer for almost 5 years and I did not change any settings before this happened. It started after having my computer in sleep mode for overnight and it starts up after having the computer on for a couple of minutes.
Also, I probably need to learn more about updating drivers, as I don't know if I do it correctly or if I am re-updating same driver twice.
Thanks for helping a little ol lady, with a computer that's a lot bigger than her.

Answer:Screen getting harder to read...AERO settings aren't working

Your graphics card might be dying. Not sure though. Does it say your drivers are not compatible or that your card is not compatible?

Hi All,

I am working in WINDOWS 7 OS.

I want to resgister an application name for restart from another application. Is it possible?

For example:

I am running xyz.exe which is calling "RegisterApplicationRestart()". I want to know that, can I register the name of another application, say abc.exe, for restart from xyz.exe ?

Detail description of problem :

Actually, I am having 2 binaries, say abc.exe and xyz.exe.

abc.exe does all the environment settings and then invoke xyz.exe and exits.

Note: xyz.exe cannot be invoked directly without environment settings.

I want to make it restart aware. But since abc.exe exits and if I make xyz.exe restart aware, how can I make sure that restart manager should invoke abc.exe after the system gets restarted by some intallation/updates ?

Response awaited.....

Thanks

I have just updated my Lumia 1520 to Cyan and will now no longer allow me to automatically load desktop sites, I hate the mobile sites and isn't always practical for me. I have changed my browser settings to 'desktop' but still automatically loads mobile. Any way to stop this happening?

Answer:Why aren't mobile site loading as desktop even after I change my browser settings?

Wait minute, Cyan? OO You're damn late to the game. Anyways, this is due to some changes on the User Agent String Microsoft introduced with ehm.. either WP 8.1 or WP 8.1 update 1. Not too sure anymore. Cyan was a firmware update, so it can't be related to that. Or at least it shouldn't. :) I was experiencing the same back then, but one of the later PfD updates fixed it, so I assume once you installed Denim, you should be fine.

Hello

Today my SSD C: with Win7 64bit and most of my high use apps is acting up.

As it stands, every time I restart my system the following things are noticed.

-all changes to programs installed on C: are not saved. eg:I've been making new local folders in my thunderbird email client to sort through some work emails, they are all gone

-deleted files return to their original location. eg:I cleaned up a few files from my desktop, emptied recycle bin, but they are back in original location

-newly created files are not there. eg:as a test I created a new file on C: and another drive. The other drive has the file on restart, but not C:

I am unable to check the disk for errors "while in use" but when I check "schedule disk scan on startup" and restart, nothing happens.

It's like nothing I do on this drive sticks right now...

*Edit*

Should add, everytime I restart now, I get the black "Windows error recovery" screen, asking how I would like to boot, safe/normal etc.
Also, when I start Firefox, it is asking to restore the tabs I had open 24 hours ago, just before this all started.
Related, the Firefox bookmark I added for this very thread is not there...

What could be causing the following situation- When restarting my computer (Windows 7 64bit) after the "starting windows" screen appears the screen will go dark and display "power saving mode". After about 60 seconds the computer will restart from the "starting windows" screen and complete the restart process. Once it completes everything the computer runs fine. Any help would be appreciated!

Answer:During restart computer enters power saving mode

Could be a boot sequence problem. Under the BIOS, make sure you're booting in the usual order (1. CD/DVD Drive, 2. Hard Drive, 3. USB, 4. Anything else). If that does not work, go into the BIOS and click the option to reset to defaults, save, and exit. If the previous methods still do not fix the issue, update your BIOS.

My computer has been acting funny in that wireless connection service has to be manually started every time I restart. In addition my screensaver has to be reset to ten minutes from one minute.

I have Malwarebytes up to date so I don't think it's spyware. Norton 360 is up to date as well.
Network Magic doesn't seem to be causing any problems.

In a nutshell my service for wireless was hi jacked and is set to automatic, but it is not. Then my screen is dead locked on letting me watch something for a minute. I thought vlc would disable the screensaver, but no luck.

However, for some reason, these values are always set to the defaut settings after a day or two. Is there any way to make the change permanent?

My notebook is a mess. It cant run anything and crashes nearly all programs when i first start it up UNLESS it blue screens. If it blue screens at start and i restart it, it runs fine for the most part. Ive got other issues with it too... but the latest problem is this...

Whenever I try to save settings or keep anything on the start menu it wont work. I am trying to get my repeat keys to work again.. settings wont save.. hit apply and go back into it and its like I hadnt changed anything. pin something to start menu and check if it is there? nothing.

Ive got a ton of little issues like this that are driving me mad. Ive scanned for viruses in safe mode using malwarebytes and windows security essentials. Ive run the sfc /scannow thing and nothing. Hell Ive even run combofix and nothing works.

side note. everything i delete no longer goes to my recycle bin and when I use skype my mic output volume always fades to 0.. ive changed settings in both sklype and windows for this... nothing works.

If anyone can help with any of these issues.. thanks in advance.

Answer:settings not saving

another thing I noticed... when i right click and go to create a new anything... theres nothing there.

Are all of these issues a symptom of something bigger? or just random corruption from my notebook blue screening constantly?

I'm having the *exact* problem that this guy here is having:<br>
http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f31/static-ip-settings-will-not-stay-487001.html

When I set the configuration manually (IP, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS addesses) for IPv4 TCP/IP settings on my network adapter, the settings "apply", and display correctly in ipconfig, but when I go back into the TCP/IP settings, all fields are grayed out and the radio-buttons are set back to "Obtain IP addresses automatically". I honestly don't know where to start troubleshooting this problem, or where to look.

I'm experiencing the same problems both at home and school, and it seems to be related to installing active directory. On my computer at home, I installed active directory, *but in virtualboxs*, and didn't make any changes to the host (my reason for using VMs). Could this be related to the problem, though, or is it just a huge coincidence that both are having the same problem after installing AD?

I set up one VM running server 2008 and one running server 2003, who interacted directly with each other, but not with my computer (AFAIK). I installed DHCP and DNS on both... so could it have affected my network settings or something? That's also what we did at school...and why I'm thinking it might be that. However, I could be completely wrong. The last time I checked, though, if you set IP settings manually, they stay that way unless changed ba... Read more

Something seems strange about my computer. Windows doesn't seem to be saving any of my settings. For example: when I type in a new web address for my homepage in IE, it only saves it for about two more opens of IE, then reverts back to what it was before. It will never stay the way I put it. Also, in Microsoft Outlook, when I type in my password and click "save my password", it only saves it until I open up Outlook again. So if I close outlook, the next time I open it I have to re-enter my password. It does this with many programs, what should I do?

Answer:Not saving settings.

I have had a similiar problem. When I rebooted, I got a windows message that said it had a problem with user's account and it would load a temporary profile. We had to restore the pc to get it to save the settings

Hi,

I have recently installed XP Pro on my computer. I've been personalizing some basic settings such as screen resolution and icon placement on the desktop but every time I turn on the computer, the screen goes back to 800x600 and the icons on the desktop are misplaced. Also, I try setting Internet Explorer's start page as blank but it doesn't save it and every time I start it up, it goes to MSN.com.

I have SpySweeper, ZoneAlarm Pro, Bitdefender and Snoopfree installed. Maybe there is a chance that one of these softwares are preventing the changes ? Please help. Cheers.

My service provider is Earthlink.

IE internet options proxy settings won't save. every time i connect to the internet i cannot obtain web pages (according to phone earthlink rep he said to uncheck the proxy settings.) It worked, but Windows or IE won't save the settings and i have to uncheck them every time i connect. i have to uncheck them for connections that aren't even in use also. i don't necessarily have to connect and disconnect either; they have changed while being connected also. the LAN proxy settings change only once though for only one connection.

This is the settings: IE, Tools, IE options, click one of the dial up connections, click settings to the right, uncheck proxy server boxes 1 and 2, click ok. that you have to do for all connections. the "one time only" is for the LAN settings. Click LAN settings, uncheck proxy boxes 1 and 2. by the way, it also changes the setting i pick for "always dial default connection". it changes it to "Dial whenever network connection is not present".

Win, IE, Earthlink glitch? Or does anyone know how to solve this issue?

thanks

Hello,

I have a problem with IE 10/11 on multiple computers.

When I launch IE 11 and open couple of tabs, close the window and reopen it, it reopens with the old tabs.
I tried closing each tab and then closing the main window, reopen it, and then all the tab reopen again.

I verified the configuration:

1 - I checked: Start with home page, Apply, and after restarting the browser, it goes back to: Start with tabs from last session.

I reset to defaults
I disabled all Add-ons
I reinstalled IE 11 with same issue
I uninstalled IE 11, IE 10 did the same thing.
I have run anti-virus full scan and Anti-Malware too. This is not a virus issue, but something else

I have been using a Linksys WAG54G modem Router for years and have not bothered with any security. Now my only next door neighbour for miles (an old lady) has departed and a younger couple have moved in. I decided to go for a bit of security and have entered a WEP key, reconnecting via the cable to set it up and then going back to Wi Fi. I had to manually enter the code and wonder if there is a way to save it in my Laptop and not hve to enter it each time I bring the lappy home and log on. The lappy has no internet settings on, only a link to my home or office Wi Fi. Russell.

Answer:Saving Linksys WEP settings

Firstly, I have to say that the likelyhood of this couple being disohnest is reasonably slim and the chance of them knowing how to crack WEP would be a bit slimmer. But......it is so easy to do that I would never recommend that anyone use WEP when WPA-PSK is vastly stronger and more convenient.

I decided to run a registry cleaning program a couple of nights ago without setting a system restore point, which may be one of the stupidest decisions I've ever made.

Right now, Windows XP is not saving my settings and acting rather peculiar. In particular:

-My folder toolbar settings are never saved - when I click on My Computer, I want the "Address Bar" toolbar to always show. As soon as I click off My Computer, the setting is forgotten and the address bar is gone.
-When I boot up, my desktop icons are arranged by name and not in the custom arrangement that I created for them.
-Most frustratingly, once I arrange my desktop icons back into the order I want and align them by grid, they instantly revert back to the old "by name" settings as soon as I make any kind of application change. I seem to be having a few problems today.I rebooted my PC and when I entered the room the Windows log in screen was showing which it never normally does. It normally goes straight to the desktop for all users. When I click on the log in icon, however, for a split second it shows 'loading setting' then changes to 'saving settings'. I can't get the desktop to load.I've phoned my PC support who have told me that it is a virus and I need to reinstall Windows which I don't want to do in haste. I've tried system restore via safe mode to no avail. I've tried last known good config also to no avail. I can get it to load in safe mode but don't really know what else to try. Any ideas please?

Maybe this thread is one for the games forum... but if you go into your specific games directory on your hard drive, there likely will be a folder in there of saved games that you can copy to a cd. But all this may depend on a specific game you have in mind- If thats of no use, ask a moderator here to move this thread to the Games forum, and add some more details of your enquiry.

Answer:Saving BIOS settings ???

Did you remove the Cmos battery and then unplug the PSU and hit the start buton serval times to completely remove all residual capacitence from the Mobo first? If, after removing the battery, you still cannot enter the bios, find the mobo reset jumpers, they are usually right next to the CPU and jumper the board from position 1 to postion 2, and then restart the puter. You will get a check sum error generally). Power down the mobo and put the jumper back to position 1. Now your bios should be at defualt if the cmos battery removal trick didn't work. CONSULT YOUR MOBO MANUAL TO LOCATE THE BIOS RESET JUMPERS!!!!! If all else fails, reflash the bios! But be careful! If you have the worng bios flash....start looking for a new mobo!!!!!!

My computer has gotten to where it no longer will save folder settings. I don't know why this would happen? It no longer opens my folders full screen and all of the folders are the same style. I go to my pictures folder and set it to view thumbnails. As soon as I back out and go back in, they are back to tiles. Every folder is in tiles no matter what I try to set it to. It got this way because I set it to save every folder as that option because, before, it would randomly change the view setting to any folder. One day, my pictures would be thumbnails, the next a filmstrip, the next tiles, and so forth without an increase or decrease in the amount of pictures there. I even change the "type" of folder to something different: Music, lots of pictures, few pictures, documents, etc. Still the same settings.

NOW it is getting to where it won't even save the order I put my quick launch icons in. I had them in the same order for over a year and now they won't stay that way. Nothing has changed?

Oh, and it's also giving me a blue screen of death when I try to open pictures with Windows Media Player.

Virus software and adware software don't find anything suspicious. Ideas? Suggestions?

Hi all,

My laptop is having problems! In work I log onto a domain, and up until around a month ago everything was fine...now when I log onto the domain my profile can't be found and a temporary one is created every time I log on. The laptop takes about 15 mins to do this. Now I can access all my documents on the server etc, but it doesn't seem to recognise my profile.

When I use a different machine to log on to the domain it's fine, and my profile comes up as normal.

I also use the laptop at home where I log onto the machine itself, and it's completely fine also.

So the problem seems to be with this laptop, any suggestions on what I could do?

Cheers

Hi and welcome to TSG,

Please do this. Click here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html to download Hijack This.

It’s very important that you save it to its own folder on your hard drive, such as program files (not temporary files or the desktop), so that it can create proper back-ups and be able to restore them if necessary.

Close all open windows and open Hijack This. Click “Scan”. When the scan is finished (it only takes a second), the scan button will change to “Save Log”. Click on “Save Log” and then save it to NotePad. Click on “Edit” – “Select all” – “copy” and then “paste” into the thread.

DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET, most items that appear in the log are harmless or even needed.

We have a computer here at work that wont save printer settings. When we set the printer inside IE to landscape it always reverts back to the default if the browser is closed. As far as I have always experianced it will save the settings for the most part, anyone have an idea?

Answer:IE 6.0 SP1 not saving printer settings

Is there any particular reason that the workstation is married to IE? Now may be the time to try an alternate browser.

Hi ...

Perhaps I've been looking in all the wrong websites including, so far, sevenforums so perhaps I should have asked my question in the first place to this particular part of sevenforums.

Prior to early January this year, I was running XP professional. Had it for years and I was very comfortable with it. Sure, I had problems with it from time to time but it was a simple and easy application to correct with saving my data so that I could put it all back after I'd done a clean re-install of XP.

Then in January, I grudgingly switched to Windows 7, not because of all the scary talk about XP being unsafe because Microsoft was about to pull the plug but rather because I knew there would come a time when I'd want or need a particular programme only to find that it didn't support XP.
So now I have W7 which I find is very stable ... more so than XP ... but over the last few months, I've done a lots of tweaks to it etc. so that now, it looks very close to that of XP.

What I want to know is this ...

Is there a programme I can use or a file I can create, preferably the former, that will save all the settings i've changed, mainly in Control Panel, so that if it ever turns out that I have to run a clean W7 install in the future, I will have means to put all my settings back into the application after it's been re-installed.
This will save me a great deal of time by not having to plow my way through the tons of links in Control Panel.
My C:\ drive only contains Windows 7.

I am using Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit. The system has been running unchanged (except for regular updates from Microsoft) for several years and thus collected a lot of "garbage"and I wish to reinstall it from scratch.

I am severely visually impaired and, as a consequence, need a screen magnifier (ZoomText). I have made many customizations to "tame" the Windows 7 GUI so that it can be used with the screen magnifier. This taming process took so much time that the prospect of redoing it is sufficiently daunting that I've avoided the reinstallation for over a year and a half. Are there files or registry settings or something that I can save before reinstallation and apply them subsequent to it so that I can restore all or most of the customizations to the GUI after reinstallation?

Does it run slow and you think a clean install would help speed it up or is it OK and you just feel it is time for a Clean Install. If the PC is running smooth, leave it along.

Hello. Long story short, I installed an upgrade version of Windows 7 on my PC, expecting to get an upgrade key from a friend, but he's let me down and I've had to buy the full version of the OS. I'm new to Windows 7 so I'm unsure if I'll need to reinstall the OS again or what. If I do, what's the best way to go about saving my settings? I'm not bothered about saving applications, just system configuration and what's in my documents and settings folder would be good enough.I've been reading up about creating a system image but that seems to make an entire copy of the system to be able to restore the whole thing. If I did have to reinstall would I still be able to load my settings from that system image? Or is there another way to backup specific things? Thanks for any help.

Answer:Saving all settings so I can reinstall OS?

No need to reload the OS, you need to activate your installation with the key you purchased.Windows 7 News!

If ever I restart the computer or log off the user after adjusting my mouse speed or mouse settings, they revert back to how they were beforehand. I've tried clicking both "Apply" and "OK" and that hasn't done anything.

Anyone have a clue why this happens? It's very frustrating.

So I just got a new computer with all new hardware(including mouse/keyboard) and windows 7.

Every time I restart my computer my mouse starts on like the 3rd slowest setting for speed. Is there a way to make it so it saves the settings for mouse speed so I don't have to adjust it every time I log in? I am using the Razer Imperator.

Answer:Saving Mouse Settings

Did the mouse come with it's own software? Here is the mouse settings page in windows:

Hello
I have some old apps and games that only work when I run them using widows XP SP3 compatibility.
The issue here is that every time I want to run it I have to go to properties.and change the compatibility to xp sp3
Is there any way to save these compatibility settings
Thanks in advance

Answer:Saving compatibility settings

Try starting the program by clicking on "Test the program" in the compatibility mode wizard. (Right click on the exe, select Troubleshoot compatibility).

Then (after having pressed "Test the program"), click "Next" and It then asks you if it worked, say "yes, save these settings" and it will save the compatibility mode settings.

Hi all,

I have a fairly new dell machine with Vista Ultimate installed (not an upgrade). After I get my desktop setup (i.e. Wallpaper, Icons, Outlook setting, Live Messenger, etc) then reboot, everything I just did gets undone? My user account is local admin as well as domain admin and previous versions/restore points are disabled. Anyone have any suggestions?

I have a problem with Windows 8 Pro.
Basically, it doesn't save profile settings, for example, created docs, desktop personalisation, log on window personalisation, etc.

So every time I log off or shut down the computer, all settings are reverted to default, like a fresh install.

Even the setting of Other Software's are also not saving, for example, when i change settings of media player's and restart my pc its reverted to default. Even the download history of Internet Download Manager is also reverted back when i shutdown.

Thanks for your help in advance!

one of the problems was due to zonealarm firewall. after i did a full recovery and installed zonealarm, they started appearing. i uninstalled it, and now things are fine.

So I check my email on the built in Opera mail client. I want the messages to get deleted from the server, and I heard that POP does that, so that's what I chose. Problem is, they aren't. I still get a crapload of emails when I log in through the website. there's even an option in the settings to leave emails on server, which I have unchecked.

am I doing something wrong?

Answer:In POP email, aren't the emails deleted on the server? cause they aren't on my end.

You would need to use IMAP not POP to have the changes made within our email client to be reflected on the server as well. POP just downloads the mail to your client, in this case Opera, and the changes made are only done within that client. IMAP is a direct reflection of what you will see on the server.

Hi,I have a few m58p Desktops that I changed a few BIOS settinsg on, (disable AHCI etc.) then saved settings and applied our company Windows XP image. All working fine. These PCs were then powered off and boxed up for almost a month. When the PCs where then unboxed and pluged back in and powered on a month later, the BIOS settings I had changed had been reset back to default?? The BIOS date and time are still fine though, so the CMOS battery seems to be ok? Has anyone seen this before? Is there anything that can be done to prevent this? Many thanks Adam
