Fifty 'Unknown Devices' in Device Manager

Question: Fifty 'Unknown Devices' in Device Manager

Hello. My Dad has several problems with his machine. Norton has somehow taken over and does not appear in Programmes nor in Add/Remove. When he performs a search and tries deleting it will not allow him to. Now he tells me there are over FIFTY unknown devices showing. When he right-clicked one it came up with LPT Port....He has doubled the memory (to 512mb) with no discernable improvement. I would move everything to his second HDD and reformat, but I am not there and he feels this is too much to try himself. So any suggestions would be appreciated. For instance if he installs Norton Systemworks would he then be able to remove it? How can he remove these 'unknown' devices?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a Toshiba laptop, model L505-ES5018. I had Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit installed on here, but decided to reformat my hard drive using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. After the reformat was finished, I ran Windows Update and it found several items to download and install for me. I noticed that it also found optional items to download and install for me, so after all the important updates installed, I ran the optional updates. After all of this installed, I checked Device Manager to see if there were any errors and I found nothing. I assumed everything was fine. I decided to check Devices and Printers and under my laptop icon, there was a yellow icon with an exclamation point on it. I decided to run the troubleshooting option when I right-clicked the icon....it gave me a solution to download a Toshiba password utility program, so I did that and nothing happened, even after restart. Same icon appeared. When I clicked on the icon a second time, I noticed that the model of my computer at the bottom of this window, changed from L505 to TIAS. I have no idea what this is. I decided to do another reformat on my hard drive. This time, I ignored the optional updates. I checked Devices and Printers again, the same icon appeared but the model of my computer said L505, like it should. There is something in the optional updates that is changing this. Could it be the Intel chipset driver that the optional update is pushing? I'm not sure. I went back to Device Manager, th... Read more

Hi all, just a quick question and it just deserves a quick answer! :o) I have got a couple of items in my Device Manager that have a yellow question mark after a recent re-install of XP but I don't have any driver disks for them. Is there a program that I can run that would tell me what these devices are so I can download a driver off the net for them?Cheers, Ian.

Hi,

My problem is that I have a list of 257 unknown devices in Device Manager.
I tried downloading software that will detect them and tried googling the problem but no luck, so I'm really hoping you can help me :)

The below images can clearly show the problem..
If it helps, the Windows diagnostic test (or w/e) lists them as PlugAndPlay.

I clean installed an ASUS Laptop Model a2500h, Windows XP Home edition SP3.

There are two drivers that I can't seem to locate. The Hardware ID's are as follows.

ACPI\WEC0515
ACPI\WEC0517\4&19A7495A&O

I know ASUS often has utility programs that show up as drivers, for example I had the ACPI\ATK0100 which was listed as an UNKNOWN DEVICE, and I installed that utility fine.

I am just not sure about the other two. I was told on another forum that it could be something to do with the sound drivers, but I suspect it is one of ASUS' little utility programs.

Any help would be appreciated. Also if any additional info is required, let me know and I will post it.

Answer:Device Manager 2 Unknown devices Help?

You can go to asus's official website to download drivers, in most cases is a sound card problem.Or you can go to download a "My Drivers", to another similarly configured machine up a backup drive, then copy to your computer up.Good luck.

I have T61p 6460-8WU which I downgraded to XP with the Lenovo supplied XP Downgrade CD's.  I recently restore from those CD's again.  I have the latest BIOS, but ever since I had the machine I have had the wired network disabled in the BIOS, the AtMEL TPM device was disabled because it said in the BIOS it couldn't be enabled with the wired LAN disabled, the Firewire disabled since I don't have any devices like that, and maybe one other thing disabled.  After my last restore, I decided I wanted to get the latest drivers for *everything* installed before making an image of the drive so that I didn't have to restore again with this flaky restore CD process to a backlevel point, so I enabled everything in the BIOS. Now I have two Unknown Devices with the yellow exclamation point icon in Device Manager, and I can't find device drivers for them anywhere on the Lenovo site.  These devices are: 1.   PCI Serial Port2.   PCI Simple Communications Controller Any help in finding the appropriate drivers for these devices would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:Unknown devices in Device Manager

If it is a new unit this should not happen. Did you cut the factory tape on the box? Maybe someone altered something? As far as fixing it. First try pressing the blue button at system startup and restore to factory defaults. If that doesn't work call Lenovo and tell them about it.You could go get unknowndevices, run it and it will give you a clue as to what the unknown devices are. Then go get the drivers and install them.

Does anyone else have these two Unknown Devices in their XPS 13 device manager? I don't recall removing anything that would cause this and the system can't find any device drivers for it nor does updating the drivers from the dell web site resolve it. There isn't any current function that we're using that isn't working so I'm not sure what category of thing these are and the hardware ID's aren't of the expected format so they don't reveal anything either.  Everything is unplugged and wireless is turned off(airplane mode on) so these are not external items.

I am having a slight issue with my new setup, appears to be driver-side. Every time I restart my computer a window pops up stating that a driver could not be installed for "IDE channel." This box appears six times in which I have to close out. There are six of these "IDE channel" devices listed (under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers) in the Device Manager w/ the little (!) next to them. When I go to install a driver for each of the devices I get "driver is not intended for this platform" or something like that. I don't know what I should do because I'm really not sure what I am looking at exactly. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I've installed all the drivers for my motherboard, graphics cards, and sound card ...all of which work fine. In the Device Manager, I am also seeing two "PCI device" and a single "Unknown" device. The only PCI card I have installed is the Sound Blaster and I installed the drivers for that; it works fine. No idea what the "Unknown" is...

I have a Dell Inspiron M731R laptop upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 Home 64-Bit that suddenly quit connecting to the home network. Was using wireless, so switched to an Ethernet cable, but still no luck. I just discovered that ALL of the network-related devices are now listed under an "Unknown" tab in the Device Manager. A check of properties of each item in that folder says they are all working properly, but that obviously isn't the case. I tried uninstalling each of the 4 items, but when they are recognized again they still show up under the Unknown tab. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Answer:Network devices listed under Unknown in Device Manager

Well, oddly enough I managed to resolve this. I removed the devices under Unknown, then attempted to install an external USB wireless device (Realtek chipset). I used the installation disk for Windows 7 since there didn't appear to be one for Windows 10. When the OS set up the new device, it also rescanned and installed the other network devices... Properly this time! I uninstalled the new external device and all seems to be well with the world. I have no idea why this worked.

Answer:Re: Satellite L300 - Unknown devices in device manager

Hi

Could it be possible that the 3rd party software which you have installed to use the USB ports has muddled up the whole system?

The driver for the unknown device which appear in the device manager can be identified very easily.

I recommend checking this HowTo:
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=78

You need the Vendor ID and Device ID and using these both ID in pci database would help you to find out the right driver.

By the way: if your Wlan and cam don?t work, install the drivers? die you already tried this?

Answer:thinkpad Helix - 2 unknown devices in Device Manager

The only time I got the same problem was if I put the tablet to sleep while docked to the keyboard, removed it...and woke it up again. Or as my memory is a bit fuzzy, it might have been the other way around. If you are having devices that are missing drivers, then if you post a picture of what you have in the device manager I can compare and find what is missing.

EDIT: Everything works!  Thanks for the tip Daniel.  I googled how to identify hardware id's and came up with this site http://www.pcidatabase.com/ , punched in the device id's and bam, it WAS the card reader.  Weird because it was working perfectly.  But I downloaded the driver anyway and re-installed and this resolved the issue.  ============================================= I tried the Intel Chipset Utility, didn't work. Here's the hardware id's though:  If you look closely you'll notice that each of these devices are in fact different.

?Multimedia controller
?Network Controller
?Unknown device

I have installed the sound and it works
I have installed the network adapter and it works

What are the above devices?

Answer:Satellite A200-1LA - unknown devices in device manager

Wait a moment. Which operating system you try to configure?

Have you checked on Toshiba download section if ?installations Instructions? document is available? If you just follow this document you will install all you need and everything will be OK.
Anyway, multimedia controller can be Multicard reader device, network controller is probably wireless card. I cannot say what unknown device is because I do not know which drivers you have installed already.

Hi there are many out there who seem to have the same problem after the  Windows 10 upgrade to your Acer: the touchpad did not work any more.Connecting an external USB mouse works perfect. Here is what I did to get it running again:- I checked in the Device Manager all drivers and noted that the Intel Serial IO Driver had a yellow exclamation mark- for security reasons I made first a new restore point- then I uninstalled the IO driver and downloaded the latest version from the Acer Support pages:IO DriversIntelSerial IO Driver604.10135.1001.530013.4 MB2015/08/11You need of course to check the right version for your own model, the above is for the Acer Aspire V3-112P- I installed the driver in normal mode (no compatibility mode) and restarted the computer AND I removed my USB mouse during the restart- now the touchpad was immedidately recognized and it started to work and it also showed up as a HID/PS2 mouse in the device manager- I reinstalled the USB mouse and went to the "Settings", "Mouse and Touchpad" and kept both external mouse and touchpad active together. Both drivers now were visible in the device manager.- it is now possible to switch on/off the touchpad with the Fn/F7 key. I hope that the above helps to identify. Key finding was the yellow exclamation mark on the Intel IO driver in the device manager and the update of this driver.I did however first try to install and uninstall the Synaptics touch pad driver, and here I am not sure if that had a... After a brand new installation of Windows 10 (64 bit / Education version) on my Aspire V3-112P-P5B3 I still have three "unknown devices" in my device manager and a warning concerning my "SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller". The first three say "Drivers not installed ..." and show in the "Details" tab the "Property: Device instance path" with the "Value: ACPI\INT33FC\n" (n = 1,2,3). The "SDA ..." says "Device currently waiting on another device ...". So I think the last problem might somehow be based on the first three problems(?).I installed all drivers given on the Acer website for Win 10/64 bit.I tried to update the drivers in the device manager ... the problems are still there.I used the Intel "Driver Update Utility" ... the problems are still there.I found some hints in the web concerning "ACPI\INT33FC\n" - but mainly on, in my opinion, strange sites for drivers updates. But somehow I do not trust those pages ...Has anybody a solution for this problem? Or the same problem? Is this a serious thing? Shall/can I ignore it? Maybe until an upcoming driver update by Acer?Any help is welcome! Thanks in advance!

Have just installed XP on a U300, I've downloaded every driver from the website.
Now i've got 2 Unknown devices ! Any ideas of what these could be ?

Thanks.

Answer:Satellite Pro U300 - 2 Unknown devices in Device manager running XP

One could be the unknown PCI memory manager.
This PCI memory controller is Intel Turbo Memory also called Intel Flash cache logic chip.
It is a new technology designed to support new Vista capabilities.
There is no driver for it for Windows XP, because XP doesn?t support the cache function. Only Vista supports this!

I have no idea what could be the other unknown device. Check simply what devices don?t run and you will know what it is!

Hi,  I've just bought G700 (59-377707), a clear without OS version.  I've just installed 64bit Windows 7 and installed all available drivers (some from the CD, some from Lenovo Support website). However, the device manager still shows two devices as "Unknown". Here are the details:Device 1Hardware Ids: root\spfd_busDevice Instance Path: ROOT\SYSTEM\0001Device 2Hardware Ids: root\Lenovo\VhidDevice Instance Path: ROOT\LENOVOVHID\0000I think the second one is concerning power management. However, as I already installed available drivers and updates I would also ask for any help on it.  Thanks a lot!

After refreshing a family Dell Vostro 3460 with new HD, new Windows 7 and a driver disk that was also provided by the (legit) Windows vendor), and after all the Windows updates, everything is fine in Device Manager except for three items, for which updated drivers cannot be found, and one for which no driver present at all. I don't know enough to know where to being looking for whatever is needed.
They are:
Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller
Unknown device
USB2.0-CRW
The unknown might be the built-in card reader in the front? Just a guess, since no other USB devices are "attached" as for as I know.
The CRW is the one that shows up as having no driver present.
Can anyone assist me? More info needed from me?

Hello everyone,

Laptop Samsung NP300V5A. Sound stops working about a month after Win 10 upgrade. No changes done at the time.

Audio devices show up under Device Manager, but not under Playback/Recording Devices. Same for Realtek Sound Manager - it doesn't see the devices. I can install, delete and update drivers under Device manager but it doesn't make any difference. It is not a physical problem, tested on Linux live CD.

Solutions tried:
-Installing various versions of HD Realtek Drivers (including windows update version)
-Installing/Removing Realtek software.
-Enabling/Disabling devices under Device Manager
-Called spirits of ancestors. Seemed like it worked for a while, but ended up being a joke.
-Did system restore to various dates.
-Restarted in safe mode
-Restarted various services such as Windows Audio, Windows Audio Endpoint Builder, Plug'n'Pray, Power, etc.
-Checked system, application and driver even logs.
-Tried a couple of registry fixes. Angered spirits of ancestors. Turning gray..
-Reinstalled chipset drivers
-Rebooted about 30 times
-Sound Device Troubleshooting finds no issues
-Display Disabled Devices is enabled

I've been looking for a solution to this issue for about a week with no result.

Answer:Audio devices in Device Manager, but not in Playback Devices

By what you have done, it suggests a Windows/sound corruption. Probably going to take a Windows reinstall. Sorry.

Hi!

I have two USB audio devices that I cannot seem to properly install drivers for.
Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 & KORG MicroKONTROL

I am in communication with both product tech support teams but so far they have not offered a successful solution. As the same issue is occurring with multiple devices I thought it might be an OS issue.
I run Win 7 Home Premium x64

The problem is as follows:

The product drivers install correctly without error. However, instead of showing up in the Device Manager in either USB Controllers or Sound Controllers they both show in Other Devices with a yellow exclamation mark.
I have tried the following fix from this site (USB Driver - General Fix for Problems) and this actually enabled me to access a portable HDD that wasn't working, but it didn't fix the issue for my 2 audio devices.
I have also tried right clicking on the devices in Other Devices, selecting Driver Update. I then find the correct drivers listed but when I hit install I get the following error message on both:
"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. One of the installers for this device cannot perform the installation at this time."

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Audio USB Devices showing under Other Devices in Device Manager

Could it be the two devices are competing with each other and the driver installer gets confused? Details on the devices and the needs to use two of the same type probably would be helpful.

I'm trying to fix an hp pavillion dv6704nr laptop running windows vista home premium. It has the little red x on the speaker in the lower right hand corner. The owner said it has been there for some months. I have tried downloading the current audio drivers for the computer but every time I try to install the driver, I get an error that says the device couldn't be found.

The first time i restarted the computer, after the driver installation failed, the audio came back and worked fine, until I had to restart the computer. Now I keep getting the same error and nothing i have found so far online has helped.

There are no yellow triangles in the device manager and the device list isn't showing the category for "sound, video and gaming etc." at all.

Please help. I did a search but the other threads didn't solve this problem for me.
Thanks in advance.

Answer:No audio device installed error and devices wont show in Device Manager

I see three different audio driver packages at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwar...ct=3646926#N661.You need to find the right one to install. If you install one and the system doesn't work properly...please uninstall it before trying the next one.Installing the wrong one won't do anything harmful to your system...it just won't do any good to leave it installed.Louis

i have installed the correct driver for this belkin bluetooth usb dongle model: F8T012XX1

but in device manager, it has the belkin device and microsoft bluetooth enumerator, which is great. but when u get further down the list. it has a tab named "other devices" and then a subtab with "bluetooth peripheral device" which has an exclemation mark on it.

i have searched for driver software using the update service but it cant find no update.

i have looked for the name of the manufacturer but found nothing.

i then disabled the unknown device, and sent a picture to my mobile phone. which confirmed that it was not the belkin bluetooth device. so i uninstalled the unknown device, restarted the computer. then when i logged in, it said that it had found a new device and wanted me to find the CD that came with it..

i would be greatful if any1 could help me on this..

hey manugautam000,welcome to the forums, disable to camera from device manager and remove the current driver installed to it.reboot your unit, re-enable the camera. windows should then install its own generic drivers.test your camera with the generic drivers.later on, head to http://support.lenovo.com , download the latest camera driver for your unit. set your unit to diagnostic mode via msconfig and then install.

Answer:Lenovo Solution Center Shows Unknown Device But Device Manager Doesn't

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to inform that it is a false indication from Lenovo solution center. Since Windows doesn?t detect any missing device drivers within the device manager, there is no driver that is missing.
If the warning keeps popping up, change the reminder settings to ?never?. Probably, you have to wait for an LSC update in which the bug would be fixed.

Refer here for further information regarding the issue.

Hope it helped!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Hey,

In my opinion this device has something to do with chipset and therefore you have to install the Intel chipset driver. You can download all drivers on official Toshiba website:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com

Check also the exact vendor and device ID in device manager to identify this device. The PCI database website can help you to do this:

In the list USB Composite Device doesn't mean much but matching the ID seems to indicate that it's the webcam.

How do i figure out what driver or even component windows wants software for when in the device manager under other devices it lists an unknown device and windows update cannot find anything.

Oh and is it appropriate for me to use this topic to ask another question regarding explorer.exe as while i am inside a folder i delete (by choosing delete from the context menu in the tree view) while inside that folder on this particular laptop PC explorer. always crashes, collect information, sends it and restarts explorer. Hello there!

I would be very grateful for any help/hints if somebody has an idea what to do....

My gf has the above mentioned laptop (w/o preinstalled OS) and we can not get the display adapter to work properly - situation is as follows

1) mobile intel 4 series express chipset family and an unknown device with a question mark in device manager
2) both are on the same PCI BUS 0, device 2?
3) intel is not working because it has no free resources (should I delete the unknown device?) to work with
4) HW ID for the unknown device is pci ven_8086&dev_2A43 and for intel is pci ven_8086&dev_2A42 (so basically the same, right?)
5) last, but not least, if I go to Desktop-personalize-advanced (first of all no 1280*800 resolution) i see under adapter type: . Exactly, nothing... under properties, this appears: non plug and play device, Super VGA and under driver, I see just the status and option to Stop, Disable, Automatic, Demand.... the device on startup... .If i disable it, the display just does not light up when the laptop is turned on....
Any ideas? I am going insaneeeeee......

Vista Home Premium, all other Toshiba SW installed (value pack, intel, BIOS 1.9, etc... - maybe BIOS did this?!)

Thanks in advance!!!

p.s. maybe SP1 that I am installing now will help?!

Answer:Satellite L300 PSLBGE - Unknown device in device manager

Hi

Wait a moment: I have checked Vendor ID and Device ID on www.pcidatabase.com and this device is the Intel graphic card. So I think this is the reason why you can?t change the screen resolution.

I assume that you have forgotten to install the display driver. Check the Toshiba website because there you can download the driver:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers

After this you shouldn?t have any exclamation marks anymore.

You can install SP1 for Vista but this will not solve the problem with the missing display driver. But you should install it because it contains a lot of security updates they are important. Furthermore I would recommend to install SP2 for Vista.

Bye

Hello,
I recently put together a new computer, and in the process of of installing the USB 3.0 connector from the front of my GX500 case, I either bent numerous pins on the motherboard USB 3.0 header or the motherboard shipped that way and I inadvertently made matters worse. Anyway, that header on the motherboard is without a doubt unusable.
Since I don't really need the USB 3.0 functionality, I bought a USB 3.0 -> 2.0 adapter cable, connected one end to the connector on the front of the case and the other end into the USB 2.0/1.1 header on the motherboard. Unfortunately, when Windows 7 boots and I plug a device into the front ports of the case, Windows detects the front USB ports as "Unknown Device" within Device Manager yet says the driver is successfully installed. I've already downloaded the most current Intel chipset drivers for my motherboard, deleted and reinstalled all USB drivers, and all rear USB connections are working perfectly fine - it's just the two front ports that are connected from the case to the USB 2.0/1.1 ports via the adapter cable.  I've tried both USB 2.0/1.1 headers on the motherboard, and I've tried plugging in several devices to the front USB ports, and this problem still persists.
I've ensured the connection inside the case is solid, yet I cannot get Windows to recognize the front USB ports.  However, I have confirmed that power is being sent to the front ports because it charges my phone when I connect it to the front USB ports via m... Read more

Hi everybody.

I just bought myself a Powercolor Radeon HD 4890 yesterday. After installing the card and the required drivers everything works like a charm. However, every time I start up my PC I get a message saying that a new device has been found on my system. On checking Device Manager I found an "Unknown device" entry under "Other devices".

I'm attaching a screenshot of Device Manager.

Are there any drivers I'm missing? It only happened after removing my old card (after uninstalling all its drivers) and installing the Radeon.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Answer:Unknown Device In Device Manager After Installing Radeon HD 4890

I have a Powercolor Radeon HD 4890 (I also have a Gigabyte 4890 and XFX 4890 in two other PCs). I think you need to install the latest ATI Catalyst Suite. You may have installed the driver only package. Anyway, I think it has to do with the HDMI capabilities of the card. High def sound is built into the card (the HD part of the card name) and the HD sound driver is part of the Catalyst Suite. When you use an HDMI cable to an appropriate display, HD sound is also transmitted through the same cable from the Radeon graphics card.

Of course, be sure to install .NET Framework 2.0 as it is required before you can install the full Catalyst Suite. The HD sound driver won't install without it. At least I had trouble before I installed .NET 3.5. I went to Windows Update and installed .NET Framework 3.5. 2.0 is included in that update and 2.0 wasn't available separately.

What doesn't work? Do you have a modem that is not installed? If so, and you don't use it, it doesn't matter.

How about sound? Do you have a high-definition audio controller? Working

One more yellow ? to go.  Thanks to the good advice rampant on this forum, I was able to figure out how to install the other drivers I needed.   This last one is messing with my mind tho.  It's unfair for a problem to not even have a name, doncha think?   About all I can fathom about this 'Unknown device' is its location:  'on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller'. I tried the driver for 'Embedded Controller' and when I double click, it takes over the computer and tells me not to shut it down and begins installing 49 fixes.  When I did it, the program got to the 21st fix, and that was as far as it would go.  I shut down the computer after about 20 minutes.  It did not remove the 'Unknown device' remark in Device Manager. What's a poor boy to do? Also, Windows is taking forever to load. This was not the case yesterday.  Thanks for all your help. 50GreenDodge in Phoenix

Answer:What is my 'Unknown device' in Device Manager? - ThinkPad T40 2374-75U

Hello, Have you tried installing the Lenovo System Update software to see if that detects any missing device drivers and offers to install it for you? The latest versions for your ThinkPad T40 Model 2374-75U can be found here on Lenovo's web site. If if that does not work, you could try going back into the Device Manager (filename: DEVMGMT.MSC), selecting the Unknown Device to view its properties and then go to the Details tab, where you should see several values listed in the property sheet for things like "Device Description", "Hardware IDs",  "Compatible IDs" and so forth.  Try using these as search terms in your favorite search engine to see if doing so leads you to a more detailed description of the device, including a manufacturer, brand, model or part number. Once you have that information, it may be easier to find the appropriate device driver for the unrecognized hardware. Regards, Aryeh Goretsky

Hi there,I recently installed Win7 Home Premium on my Dell Inspiron 1525 which previously ran WinVista Home Premium (both are 32-bit.)However, in Device Manager, there are two devices named as; Base System Device, each with an (!) mark for them. When I dig deeper to see what these devices are, I get the following name for each of them;1) PCI, bus 2, device 9, function 3 and,2) PCI, bus 2, device 9, function 4When I then look at the Physical Object's Name, I get this;1) Device\NTPNP_PCI0024 and, 2) Device\NTPNP_PCI0023I'm not really sure what is going on! I tried using Win Updates to find the drivers, but it cannot find anything. I have a feeling that they may be devices for the integrated webcam and the card reader; however, I know I installed a driver for the card reader, so I am not sure what the other device is for... :sAny help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.J

I have a x200 that I am just setting up. I have one Unknown device in the device manager, after downgrading it to Win Xp. The only ID i can see is ACPI\Intc0102\  I have already installed the intel chip set updates, TPM , Fingerprint reader.Anyone have a good guess what driver I need?

Answer:X200 Loaded with Win XP Unknown device in device manager

All you have to do is download Lenovo Update.  A list of other updates you'll need after that are the following: Bluetooth Manager from X200 Driver Page (if you bought it)Intel 5100/5300 Drivers from Intel Webpage (if you bought it)Intel Matrix Storage 8.5 Drivers from Intel Webpage. That should be everything.

Hi.

It WinXP Pro + SP 3.
In Device Manager display, as an unknown device. Try all drivers, who were on a disk along with the laptop, nothing helps. Give the solution!

Answer:Re: Satellite 5200-701: Unknown device in the device manager.

Hi,

who should give you THE SOLUTION? I mean, you tried all drivers and nothing did installed... So, does your machine run properly? Does some device not work like it should?

Please check this firstly before installing all drivers without any success. Try to guess which device it could be, so then we can search for some solution.
A good beginning would be to check the device in the device manager and write some of the information which is contained in the Properties window of the device.
Please post the details which are in the properties of the device, maybe someone here in the forum can find out which device won?t work.

I assume also that the SP3 makes some problems, so another good option would be to deinstall the SP3 and go back to SP2.

I have attached a view of what's listed in my device manager because there are two "unknown devices" listed under "Imaging Devices" and I have no idea what they are. The manufacturer is Creative Technology Ltd. but that's about all I know. Every time I start up my PC I get the message, "updating drivers" and then, "update failed" but the only thing that's not working properly is I can't seem to upload photos from my Canon Powershot any more. (That is in another post)

Does anyone know if these are connected?

Hi, I had problems when connecting external drives to my laptop. The external drive was not recognized. When checking device manager, i noticed unknown devices on the other devices tab in the Device Management, to wit: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_9D2F&SUBSYS_504817AA&REV_21PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_9D2F&SUBSYS_504817AAPCI\VEN_8086&DEV_9D2F&CC_0C0330PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_9D2F&CC_0C03 I suspect that these drivers are related to my problems on connecting external drives to my laptop. Could someone here help me to look for these drivers? Thanks. Regards

I was going to just flick through the similar threads, but I think my problem's slightly different.

The other day I got home and decided I needed to clean my computer up, so I went ahead and uninstalled about 20gb worth of games. Then I tried to install AVG, and it told me to restart my computer. When I'd restarted, no sound would come out of my speakers. I thought maybe something had disabled it in my volume control, but it wouldn't allow me to look at it. I tried going on Device Manager, and I got nothing at all in there. I thought it was maybe because I'd accidentally let themexp install WhenU onto my computer, so I got rid of it, and ran SpyBot, and let AVG do a complete Anti-Virus, and that produced no solve for the problem.

So I went ahead and reinstalled windows, which worked for a little while. Then it stopped working again. I want through your complete malware removal, and still no sound. I tried going through the BIOS and disabling the soundcard and enabling it, which didn't work. I'm pretty much at the end of my tether!

I'm running a DELL8400 with Windows XP. Thanks for any help in advance.

Answer:No Devices in Device Manager

So... you said you had no devices in the device manager, and then you said you fixed it. Does this mean that when the device manager was opened, it was just an empty, blank white window? But now it's not? Or is the only problem now that you have no sound?
Please clarify
(...and welcome to Major Geeks!)

I'll admit it's kind of cool to be able to say your computer has no devices, but it's also kind of nerve wracking. When I open device manager there's nothing in it. I had a recent bout against a few viruses, and after everything's clean, I get this weird thing. When I try to add devices or detect new devices, nothing happens either. Did I somehow delete an important file?

Please could some kind person direct me to an answer to this problem.Dell dimension desktop. uses XP home. Family machine. 6 USB ports.I got a message this morning which said "USB hub port overload"The following were plugged in as they always have been - printer, scanner, web cam - one per port. I do not use a hub, since I have 3 ports free. But none of them show any signs of life - eg the scanner normally whirrs and buzzes for a couple of seconds after being plugged in which it now does not do and the web cam little "I'm on" light does not glow.I have been to the control panel->system->device manager. Here I normally find a long list of devices which reassures me amongst other things that each device is working properly. The device manager window is completely blank. Just a white space, no list - nothing, not even the name of the computer. I tried to restart in safe mode. After selecting the SAFE MODE option in what looks like an MS-DOS screen nothing happens at all - so I don't appear to be able to start in safe mode!So there are two questions.1) How can I get the device manager list back?2) What does a USB message about "hub port overloads" really mean?John

I've got 3 devices that my computer has no idea what they are. I am assuming they are items that are actually plugged into the motherboard. Duh. I try to update them but no drivers are ever found. How do I find out what they are so I can unplug them from the mother board?

Any takers??

Usually someone answers my questions just enough to get me in the right direction. I have successfully fixed three different towers with TechSpot members' help. Hopefully I will continue to have the same luck.

Answer:K450 - Unknown Device in Device Manager

hi ktmcmo,

As per the Windows 8.1 Upgrade Guide by Lenovo, certain components and their functions might be affected after upgrading the unit to Windows 8.1 (this includes the USB Port).

Just to verify, have you tested both the USB 2.0/3.0 ports using any usb devices (flashdrive, mouse, etc.)? If you see that one port is not functioning, you can try to:
1. uninstall all USB Root Hubs under USBView or Device Manager.
2. Install the Intel Chipset Update Utility.

Intel chipset Driver
     Version: 9.5.10.1658
     Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

3. Reboot the PC and observe.
