My black and white prints have a magenta colour cast. I am using a Canon Pixma iP2600. Any ideas on how to cure this please?

Answer:Black and white prints have colour cast

Chances are that the printer is also using the colour cartridge to create Black. Either remove or disable the colour cartridge when printing B&W prints.

My default printer is colour, but the default preferences set it to black and white.  I've changed the default to colour on my Win7 Professional 64 bit PC, things print in colour from Word, Outlook, Adobe etc.  When I open photos in Photo Viewer,
they look fine until you go to print, the print preview is b&w and the print comes out b&w.  If you look at the print prefs through Photo Viewer, it says b&w, even though if you go through Devices and Printers it says colour.
I'm in a corporate environment, this printer is hosted on a print server.  All laptops are seeing this problem, running FixIt is not an option.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Answer:Photo Viewer prints black and white, print preferences are colour

Please remove the printer from Devices and Printers . Then follow the steps below to install the printer again.

I note you have intimated 'tried the drivers', but have you contacted Epson to see if there is an up-date for this 440 Printer?I used the 440 ( excellent )and found Epson very helpful. The 440 is not new, and if you are using it with XP, you may need a new driver, so try them!Good luck!geedad

Give up ,go away, come back and it is OK once more. The machines in question are R 200 and 300 and a MFD 425With the MFD it prints as copier fine - in this situation but delivers computer generated pages printed left side only- So it seems to be a data transfer problem-But so far nothing to indicate a correction remedy.Reinstalling the software for example does not cure, it,it may happen againAny thoughts?

I have had a SC3000 printer connectedin a network using PrintSir print server for several years. Today while printing a PDF from Arcobat Reader 6 some troubles appeared. The PDF itself took too long to print (about 30 minutes one A3). It stopped for about ten minutes, then printed one third of the paper and stopped again. Finally it printed the file out. The quality was usual. I have set the printer driver to 'BLACK' to have BW output. Afterwards I wanted to print out a DWG file from ProgeSoft IntelliCAD (I've never done it before). The printer started printing immediately, but the output was BW, however it wans't supposed to be. All colors were printed in black (even pure C,M or Y) and the print took too long. The printing head mover very fast, but the paper hardly moves. It seems like a very detailed printing method. After about 10 minutes the printing was finished and the outpud quality was usual. There was no distortion or skew, but all the colors were black. Since then all the printings look like that - regardless of the software I'm printing from. I've changed the printserver and tried even the original LPT cable. No change. I plugged the printer into different computer and tried original windows driver. No change. I've tried it under windows XP Pro, windows XP Home, Windows 2000 and now i'm about to try even Linux. There was no change. But when I press reset button on the printer, it starts to print usual ASCII data in PROPER spe... Read more

This SX-130 has been printing just fine for about 2 years now, but suddenly the black has gone weird.
When printing fast, bi-directional, it appears as in the image here: click here
If you print slow, high quality (where the head prints unidirectionally), then nothing comes out.
No amount of head cleaning works - we've almost completely emptied a set of re-manufactured cartridges doing multiple cleans, as well as a genuine black, too.
So I was wondering if there was some way to set/hack/trick the printer driver into printing in the OTHER direction only when printing unidirectionally.
See what I'm getting at? If it's printing solid in one direction, and nothing in the other, setting the other direction to be the one it prints in when printing would be a good idea.
Or is that kind of thing set at the printer hardware level? If so, any other suggestions?

Answer:Epson SX-130 black head only prints half a row, and then only in bi-directional mode.

Uninstall all Epson software and drivers and then reboot and reinstall / retry.

Yesterday I tried to install new ink cartridges into my printer. ( EPSOM 880 Colour. ) When I powered off the printer the ink carriers stayed to the right when they are supposed to go to the left of the interior to allow access to the housings for the cartridges. The only way I found to get around this was to start to print something, then power off the printer whilst it was some way alomg the printing route. After changing the cartridges with new ones I resumed printing. The ink cartridge indicators now still show both empty and printing is erratic. The test printouts indicated that the heads needed to be cleaned, which I did OK, but when printing text the spacer lines are almost blending together. D I need to reinstall the software and install as a "new" printer?

I acquired the Epson Printer quite some time ago and use it mainly for newsletters and correspondence for a Residents Association. It has worked very well until recently but now the cyan cartridge is not working properly. When I print a test pattern all colours including black print evenly except the cyan which has many "missing" segments in the printed pattern. The instruction book says clean the nozzles through 'Utilities' but many attempts at doing this has shown no improvement. It looks as if some of the cyan nozzles may be really blocked and I wonder if there is anything I can do to clean them. Incidentally I have tried a brand new Epson Cartridge and made sure the paper is correct etc. I do not want to have to send this printer for repair unless it is absolutely necessary (I can't see how to get to the printer heads myself) because it would probably cost an arm and a leg to have it stripped and cleaned. On the other hand I have new cartridges which I have just spent about 90 on!

Answer:Epson Stylus Colour 3000 printer

Can you confirm that this is an Epson Stylus Colour 3000 printer. I can't find any reference to this printer, even on the Epson site? Alternatively, tell us the ink cartridge numbers.

I have twoo printers attached to my computer, an Epson Stylus 700 and an Epson Stylus 1160. The 1160 does not get used a lot. When I had to replace the black ink cartridge it would not print out although the colour one would. I have tried using the head cleaning facility several times but this has not cured the problem. In fact the ink indicator shows that I have used half of the black ink cartridge in cleaning! Is there anyway I can fix this problem myself? By dismantling the machine or anything else? I have sent Epson Customer Services a couple of E-mails on the subject but have not received a reply. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Epson 1160 Stylus Colour Printer

I had the same problem (but with a 760). Thats the main problem with Epsons, that the heads don't come as part of the ink cartridge. You could try head cleaning solution (approx 10 for a colour and a black) from any inkjet site. Basically they are cartidges but with cleaning solution. I tried these and they didn't do anything at all. In the end, I was using soo much ink trying to fix the problem, I ended up buying a new printer (SP830)I don't know if this helps really

EDIT: Boy do I feel stupid now. It turns out the "new" ink cartridge I was using actually expired in 2005 which I guess explains everything. I replaced it with a newer one (expiration date: 2007) and everything's working like a charm. Except for maybe my brain.

Ok, I've been going out of my skull trying to figure out what's wrong with my printer and tried everything I can think of but to no avail, so I'm hoping someone here can help me out.

The printer I'm currently using is an HP Deskjet 810C. It's quite old but it's served me well and I've never had any problems with it up until now. Whenever I go to print something in colour everything comes out in various shades of magenta except for whatever text is in black. The first thought that came to mind was that the colour ink cartridge needed replacing, so I replaced it but the problem remained. I should also probably mention I'm using the same HP cartridges I've been using for years. Anyways, I then tried cleaning, priming, and realigning the print cartridges and still no luck. I even replaced the black ink cartridge to see if that would make a difference (it didn't). I deleted and reinstalled the printer. Nada.

When I print in grayscale (which I do most of the time) it works fine. Unfortunately I don't remember the last time I printed anything in colour so I'm not sure when this problem arose.

I'm at my wit's end and any suggestions would ... Read more

(This is an update to a problem I had awhile back that never got fixed/answered: Old Post

Here are my specs and the original post:

"I have an HP Deskjet 6988 hooked to a Gateway GM5472 desktop that's running Windows 7 32-bit.

The printer is inherited and said to have not been able to print for awhile from its previous owner (an old teacher friend), but it did automatically install when I plugged it in. No error lights are on, and I'm positive that the ink is good. The problem is that it is printing (the carrier is moving back and forth just like it normally would) but not producing any text or graphics on the sheets that come out. I've tried printing test pages, from notepad, from Word - nothing works. However, when I print from Firefox it works. I can't figure out why..."

New Developments:

Somehow, the printer is printing from browsers, but prints nothing in black. Black text online turns to some sort of gray-ish color, whereas black text in a Word document or a .txt file won't show up at all. It's as if it doesn't recognize the black cartridge, but I haven't seen an error light or alert saying anything like that... I'm really at a loss here, and I'll probably have to throw it out if I can't get it fixed soon. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance, as well.

Hi Peeps,

I'm Struggling with a problem that I just can't seem to get past.

I have 3 pcs on a network all sharing a printer (Hp deskjet 3520).

For some strange reason the two client computers print documents with the color cartridge instead of the black one.

The server prints fine. I have tried updating the drivers and going through the settings but there's nothing that seems to address this problem! Or am I missing somthing simple?

Has anyone else had this problem?

I am running win Xp Pro SP1a on amd athlon systems.

Any help will be appreciated!!!

Answer:HP Printer prints in color instead of black over network!!

When you print from your computer you should get a print dialogue box that pops up. Go into properties or setup and you should be able to tell the printer to print in color/b&w/or both. Choose the b&w option and you should be good.

I recently replaced my black cartridge in my HP 722C printer. Since then, when I use the draft mode (which I use most of the time), the printing that is supposed to black comes out blue. I have a Canon i850 printer which is perhaps at least three years old. It's worked extremely well until a couple of months ago when I began to notice a problem with black text.

Most lines of black text are okay; however, some lines are difficult to read because the printing is too light. Sometimes the top portion of a line of text across a page is faint while the bottom portion is normal. Also, I notice what appears as a perfectly horizontal white line running across the page through the text. This, of course, results from the failure of the black ink to print.

This problem seems to follow a rather consistent pattern. For example, I may have four lines of perfect text followed by one flawed line, a pattern which repeats itself throughout the entire page. A page I recently printed shows a problem line appearing about every half inch or so.

I've performed all of the maintenance tasks such as head alignment and cleaning more than once, but the problem persists.

Perhaps it's time to buy a new printer. The i850 has been great. I had numerous paper jams with my previous two HP's, but not even one with the i850 in three years. Then again, maybe paper jams are a thing of the past.

This problem is kind of difficult to describe, so I hope I've made myself sufficiently clear.

I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who might be able to help me. Thank you.

Welcome!Computer Hope is the number one location for free computer help. The forum will help everyone with all computer questions. You need to clarify some things.A. You are not using new Epson cats and the problem only showed up after you put in some other band. Right?B. You have not had nay other issues with the printer.C. You print a black and white document and color fringes show around the letters and so you reason that that it is using color ink to create a black area. Right?Consider the following...Quote.. behavior of the Epson ... is not a flaw in the printer software. It is a special feature. When black ink level is low, color ink is used to continue print ...Does this apply to your printer? Check the documentation. You should find how to disable this thing. --OR--Do do you mean that you want to print color photos in black and white? Are you sure you are making then right selections for that? If you really want a photo in monochrome, it should be done in your photo program. Black ink smears on to paper coming out of printer along with small splashes of black ink. Black ink pooled inside of computer too. Led towards clogged ink well by OfficeMax manager, who swore there was nothing wrong with my cartridge. Printer does not always give me great quality but usually does well at a high DPI setting. I also saw on line a "Printer Head" cleaning kit that was said to solve quality problems. OfficeMax guy siad I should clean out in well with absorbant material with no lose fibers. Is my printer dead? Any ideas?

Answer:Epson C80 Printer Black Ink Well Problems

Run a handful of sheets through the machine (by pressing the paper feed button on it. once to load, once to eject, until pages come out clean)

As far as trying again, check the printer settings (control panel -> printers -> right click and go to printing preferences) and make sure you're not trying to print with super high quality or on anything but plain paper, as both will up the ink output on you. I used to work on Epson's tech support line, we had lots of these every day, and I very very highly doubt this is anything but some software settings. You can also try printing a test page (in that same printing preferences window) to verify how it's doing. Your user's manual will go into some more detail about this sort of thing; as will the troubleshooter on Epson's website.

My firm just bought a new Epson R2400. We are a graphic design firm, so a good printer is key. So far, however, I have not been able to get a rich black to show on the printouts. Instead, where black (or a very dark color) should be, there is a taupe-ish, muddy color. The colors usually always look great, but where there's black it gets real ugly.

If there is anyone familiar with this printer or a similar printer I'd love to know how to get a strong black to print. I am printing CMYK files out of Photoshop and Illustrator CS2 (mostly). I've adjusted the color controls in many different ways, but have not yet hit the mark. I keep hearing how great of a job the R2400 does with B&W photographic prints, which is great, but I need to be able to print a color & black/white image. Maybe the R2400 isn't the printer we need.

Any help/thoughts? Thanks.

I have the Epson 880 and I am very pleased with it, however, I do print holiday photographs quite often, would I notice much difference with the R200 please?

Answer:Epson colour 880 v Epson Photo R200

hi badgermansix i use the 880 &print alot of pics,my friend has the 900 & i cant visibly see any difference, apart from the price of the cartridges.the 200 i believe can print onto discs but apart from that i would stick to the 880 with cartridge prices as low 1.50 for a colour i will stay with my 880.

When I try to print colour photos I cannot print Black (or shades of gray) they come out as brown or shades of brown. This is a recent occurence, the printer used to work fine. Black prints normally in text. I am using an HP all in one printer with HP cartridges from an HP laptop with Vista home. I have cleaned & realigned heads, deleted & reinstalled software but still the same problem. I have had countless emails with HP but I think the replies come from a machine as they are usually the same stuff informing me how happy they are to help.
Any advice please?

Hello all. I'm a newbie.

I'm trying to get the name of some software that will help me produce colour prints of my digital images that are a close match with what I can see on my monitor.

Currently I've been using Irfanview's colour adjustments before printing, but it's not very accurate.

I'd like some help with this please.

Thank you.

I can't say I have ever been 100% happy with the print quality from my two year old Epson R360. The general colour of prints is ok but any reds are far too strong, and fiddling with the advanced colour settings doesn't seem to make any difference. The image on my laptop screen looks excellent. I recently abandoned Epson inks and am currently using Tesco equivalent - no real difference that I can see. Still too red. Any suggestions on settings that I should experiment with?

Answer:Epson R360 prints too red

Try you using a photo manipulating prog like Photo shop,or even a free one. You can usually change the colour levels before printing

I just cannot get it to print more than once! Can anyone help?

Recently, myR220 is printing the content of an A4 page off centre. As far as I know, I haven't done anything to cause this. One file I have is used to print notelets. The A4 landscape page is folded twice at right angles to produce a6 size. This was OK but, on the last one I printed, the picture which wsas nicely centred in the A6 format is now off-centre. The A4 page is set to 0 mm margins and printed borderless. I made a new empty A4 page like this then put in two corner-to-corner diagonals. On printing, one diagonal was displaced a few mm. The Print Preview facility is set and on this the diagonal is shown displaced so it prints as shown.I have downloaded and installed the latest driver from the Epson site but it made no difference.Any ideas please?

Answer:Epson R220 prints off-centre

It could be because you are trying to print borderless, this feature stretches the normal printing area. Try without this setting.

Hi
Have a dx6050 that is used regularly but then the black started to print intermittent.
I changed cartridge and done several head cleans but still no good.

As I needed print facility I linked up daughter's SX425 and again ( notwithstanding hers has not been used for a few months ) after several head cleans hers is doing almost exactly the same thing.

The colours are ok but printing black, one line is fine then the next is almost smudged looking with a faint white line through it. This alternates evenly down the page.

Is this a printer issue with the alternate lines perhaps being bad as the head unit goes the other way across the paper from the good lines or could this be an issue with my computer and the print message it is sending to the printers. If the former then what a coincidence? I have a dx 6000 as well that I have not yet tried but again this has not been used for a while.

Here is hoping someone somewhere knows what to do or what this may be due to.

Thank you

Update to the above - I have closed the text up and tried different permutations and it seems to be every now and again a line goes wrong when the others are perfect. I could understand it being the nozzles etc if all lines were bad but not just odd ones

Hi- I am a newbie. This forum has been a life saver for me several times. I have a curious problem with my epson R230 for the 4th time.I use a CISS. I would be printing fine for a month or so then suddenly it starts printing blank pages. I have tried several cycles of head cleaning and squirting rubbing alcohol through the noozles with a syringe. Thinking that its a software problem, I disconnected the usb cable and did a test page print by holding down off/on & cancel button thing but it still goes through the motion of printing- printer starts up  does a self priming, takes in paper & printer carriage moves back & forth but prints nothing. This is the fourth printer in seven months. Three printers are just sitting looking all shiny & new but useless. What can be the problem? someone please help. My pc is an intel core 2 quad @ 2.84 Ghz. 2 gb ram XP service pack 3

Answer:Epson R230 prints blanks

meren, By the sounds of things this is a "new" printer. If so i strongly advise using your warranty. First i would recommend phoning Epson if it is still under warranty and seek their free tech support. If you don't get pretty fast resolution i would use their warranty to return it to them. I have had and still have many Epson products. If you are fortunate enough to have your problems arise when the warranty is still in force then i have found them to be excellent. Don't forget the possible existence of an extended warranty if you happened to have purchased it with a credit card. Then if the warranty if in the extended stage it will be provided by the insurance of the particular credit card. If this option is not available then tell us and other possible solutions may be forthcoming. good luck, truenorth

Hi Allhope someone more knowledgable can advise - I recently purchased a Lexmark x500n multifunction colour laser printer - I had a big black print job to do excel and word - 2000 pages - i was shocked to see that - ok the black starter cartridge of 2500 pages was nearly empty- fair enough - but all three colour cartridges (1500 page size) were nearly all empty too - I hadn't done any colour printing but when i contacted the manuf they advised that the printer uses colour also to print black!! - it's getting returned to them - but do do all colour lasers do this - obviously this quadruples the costs of printing and has put my costing out of the window!! - any advice would be great - it's a network colour printer, with copier and scanner that I need - a fax would be great but not essential.thanks in advanceTrifly

Answer:COLOUR LASER - PRINTING BLACK USING COLOUR!!

That would pee me off no end. How in God's name can it use colour to create black when there's a black cartridge in there? A cheapo mono laser seems to be your ideal tool. I know nothing about colour laser printers, but is there an option anywhere in the settings to print using only the black cartridge? Does the printer still work if you take out the colour cartridge while printing only black text documents?

Epson Stylus C82 prints blank pages after replacing ink cartridges. Was faded but printing before changing. Replaced Epson brand cartridges with Epson brand cartridges. Done the head cleaning procedure several times followed by nozzle tests which show a couple of broken lines of colour. A full test page prints the colour portions of the Windows logo and nothing else. No black appears in any test. I have followed all trouble shooting procedures in the manual which ends with instructions to call Epson Technical Suport for $10 per call. I was told by a colleague that the Epson C82 has a history of problems after changing the cartridges. Am I throwing good money after bad or is there something I can do to get the printer working again?

Have an EPSON XP-800 that is producing some funny results. Here is what I have done so far:

1. Totally uninstalled and reinstalled the latest printer driver from EPSON site.
2. Run all Windows Updates
3. Verified system is Malware/Adware free.

The systems is a Windows 7 64bit with Office 2010.

The Windows 7 test page prints fine and so does a notepad doc. The unit also produces copies just fine.

The issue is when I try to print from Microsoft Work or even Microsoft WordPad. The printer does its gyrations and acts just as if it is printing (head moves, etc.) but it spits out a blank page.

EPSON support says the issue is on my end since the machine makes copies.

Any ideas? Let me know if you need more information. Thanks!

We fixed it by giving the EPSON to Goodwill and buying a Canon Color Printer that is working great.

Epson 440 will not print in colour...Have changed cartridge and cleaned heads several times but no difference...Colour box is ticked on print options..Any tips would help as I was thinking it was maybe blocked jets.

Answer:Epson 440 no colour

How old is the printer? Are the heads part of the color cartridge, or separate? If they're separate, maybe they're worn out and need to be replaced.

Here's part of the Epson FAQs:

Q: Why are the colors in my image incorrect?

A: Due to the fact that your monitor and printer use different
technologies to represent colors, your printed colors cannot exactly
match the colors you see on your monitor screen. Check the ink
setting in the printer driver and make sure it is set to Color, not
Black. Make sure the Media Type setting matches the paper or media
loaded. Let the printer driver automatically select other settings
for the best quality. Check to see that the paper is loaded
correctly by removing the paper and reloading it, making sure that
the printable side is face up. You can also adjust various color
settings in your printer driver and possibly your application
software to correct color problems in your image. Also, the print
head nozzles may be clogged. From the Utility section found in the
EPSON printer driver, print a nozzle check and examine the printed
dot pattern. Each staggered horizontal and straight vertical line
should be complete, with no gaps in the dot pattern. If there are
gaps in the dot pattern, clean the print heads by running the head
cleaning utility in the printer driver. Then, print another nozzle
check. A nozzle check and head cleaning must be performed as a
cycle in order for the cleaning cycles to work. If there are still
gaps in th... Read more

Question: Epson colour 440

I got brand new printer gave m e but no one could find driver disk so i downloaded it but my printer just prints lines of non sense and in all different colours but wont print it wont print a word pad doc and wont print from dos either plz help very confuzed beginner

Answer:Epson colour 440

Sounds like you downloaded the wrong driver.

On their Windows driver page (assuming you're using Windows) there are several options.

If you're using WinXP, the only WinXP applicable file listed is actually a Monitor utility, but it does not state that it includes the driver (never safe to assume anything).

But if you are using WinXP, it already has many printer drivers included.

Try this:

Right-click My Computer
Select Manage option
Select Device Manager
In right pane, expand [+] Printers
Select your new printer
Uninstall the printer
Reboot your system and see if WinXP automatically loads the driver
This means WinXP already had the correct driver.

If this does not work... Is your printer "new" to you (used from someone else)?

If it is actually store-bought new, it should still be under warranty. Go through the store or Epson and get the CD you are missing.

Greetings,

We have a brand new Windows 2008 R2 x64 terminal server. Additionally, we have a Windows Server 2003 x86 print server. All prints to the 2003 server are problem-free and print fine. However, because we have upgraded most of the company's computers to 64-bit Windows 7 and moved many users from PCs to the 2008 R2 x64 server, we've been forced due to resource constraints and perhaps to some degree 'bad planning' to use the 2008 R2 x64 server as a print server for x64 machines and users.

Using the latest HP Universal Drivers, when users print to many of the printers at the office (through the 2008 R2 x64 server), they get an extra page with this garbage printed to it [1]:

[1]

(I censored out the actual username there)

This problem would happen for these old HP LaserJet 2200 printers (parallel-based, long before Ethernet connectivity came to be). So, we thought, "it must be cause these printers are so darn old that even though HP says the UPD supports these models, it obviously doesn't! We need to upgrade office printers anyway because none of the printers here support automatic duplex."

So, we got a new printer: HP LaserJet 2055dn (networked, supports auto-duplex)

Low and behold, the problem is not solved by getting a new printer. We only bought one so that we can diagnose the situation and get it solved before upgrading the entire office's printers. When replacing, we just created a new TCP/IP printer port ... Read more

Answer:New network printer prints out garbage like old printer :(

Try not using the universal driver.

I'll tell you thought that we have the EXACT same setup as you and ours work fine. We have 2008 R2 servers running XP clients with HP 2055dn's. We use the UPD PCL5 and everything works great.

Also, why is using the 2008 R2 server bad planning to use as a print server? Ours work great.
