Preferred Solution: Add New Hardware Wizard does not find new drivers

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Add New Hardware Wizard does not find new drivers

Note: The printer's scanner worked fine on my cousin's netbook so I don't think its defective.

I recently bought a new printer which is also supposed to be able fax and scan. The printer works fine, but I am not able to scan. During installation there was an error ("Your new hardware might not work properly"). I opened up Device Manager and there you go, a yellow exclamation mark ! next to Lexmark 2600 under images and devices.
To fix the problem, I tried to update the driver from the installation disc. But it showed me the message "Wizard could not find a better match for you hardware than the one it already has"
I went to the Lexmark website and downloaded and installed the updates, followed the troubleshooter, and even chatted for an hour with a support operator. The instructions he gave me were the same thing I was already doing; try updating from the cd and the downloaded package from the site, install, uninstall, reinstall, try different usb port... but i got the same disappointing result; Wizard cant find a better match.

04:48:58 PM [Marco] I see. I apologize. That is correct. However, to be honest, I am not certain why XP is not allowing you to update using the downloaded package and the CD.
05:02:27 PM [Marco] I see. I apologize we have perform the necessary steps to have the printer updated, however the issue persists. There may be a software or Operating system policy blocking or not allowing the update.

Hey there, firstly i'd like to say i really respect what you guys do helping all the clueless peeps like me, i've had various problems before and have solved them all through searching help threads here.

Recently my system had been playing up, random restarts, long boots, incredibly slugish and i was recommended to do a reformat of windows xp. Which i went ahead and did no problem. Now with the fresh system i am unable to make any connection to the internet.

When i go into the network setup wizard it says "The wizard cannot find your network hardware".

I use a router with a ethernet cable.
The cable is fine.
I've read around and hear i may need to install network drivers. Which i dont have a disk for.
I have no idea where to locate these drivers or what i need to download specificly
My motherboard is a "ECS 945G-M3 V3.0 Socket 775 Core 2 Duo Ready FSB1066 DDR2 Onboard Audio mATX"

Any assistance you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

I really have little knowledge of what i should be doing.

Thanks - A tired Josh.

Answer:Wizard cannot find your network hardware

Go to "system then hardware the device manager" if it does not shop there then go tot add & remove hardware, let the system try to find it. If the system does not find it try to go back and select it from the list, take your time it is not as hard as it may seem. Another point!!! You may need a driver, many drivers are available on the net from the maker, you will need the make/model number.
Added note if you find the net card in the device manager but with a yellow asterisk, right click a panel will open click on driver and try the update feature the driver may be on your windows disk!

Dell
Windows Xp

So 2 days ago, i was having a problem with my computer, i would log in, and once my desktop came up, it would show for about 10 seconds, and then my icons and taskbar would dissapear. So i called dell, and they told me that most likely some spyware had leaked through and the best solution would be to reboot xp and start from scratch. So i go to do that and when the installation finished, i suddenly have no internet connection. I use a linksys router, and my laptop is connected to the router and gets a connection just fine.

So im guessing my problem is that when i go on my pc and go to the network connections screen, its empty. Wehn i try to set one up, i get the "Wizzard cannot find your network hardware" which is strange because before i re-installed, i had a working internet connection. If you have any tips, that doesnt require me talking to the useless folks at "dell-on-call" please help.

Be slow with me lol, im a beginner, i kno some basics, but if u tell me to do some crazy stuff, i will probably get lost =). So step by step please if u can help.

thanks

My computer after a few years has got infected with spyware and my bro said that the best thing to do is re-install XP with one of my dad's XP CD's (he's on Vista now).

I have installed it, but obviously have no drivers. I have been on the HP website which has the 'HP Update' software update tool that I downloaded which should sort a few drivers out for me, I hope.

But the problem is HP Update requires internet connection, and I cannot connect to my wireless, even with an ethernet cable, because when I connect to my router it says 'wizard cannot find network hardware' so I need this network hardware, where is it??? HELP!

I went on hp and my bro told me its here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=ca&product=3932434&lang=en

But it doesn't work!!! HEEEELLPPPP!! Thank you very much!

PS: I have a HP DV2-1010ed with a Flextronics 3054 motherboard if that helps...

Use Windows XP Home SP2. Motherboard/BIOS completely up to date. When I try to add any USB device the Find New Hardware Wizard flashes continually and devices are therefore not loaded. The only cure we found was going back to Windows XP SP1 without but everything then changes when upgrading again. Any help would be grateful - have searched internet continually and have found this fault on one site when says about c:\windows\inf file and fixing but do not know how to go about it at all.

My problem seems to be in this catagory. I'm trying to install a new AG board. When I get to Hardware Wizard Search and Install options, I type in C:\Program (This is where I've downloaded drivers) an error msg. states that there is no device info in this location. I get the same response when I enter the file name. I've battled this driver problem for two days, from installation disk drivers not compatable, to not finding downloaded drivers.
Any solutions would be greatly recieved....Thanks, ezjim

Is there any way in XP to install a device driver manually. I've tried using update driver in the device manager but it tells me I already have the best driver. If I unistall the driver, when I use the add hardware wizard, windows automatically installs its own driver.?

Answer:Stop add hardware wizard automatically installing drivers

Uninstal the device in Device Manager (Righ-click/Uninstall) . Then go to Control Panel/Add New Hardware . When the wizard runs select to instal from a specific location and point the wizard towards the location of the driver you wish to use .

I dont know why the wizard is not allowing you to use this option in the first place . Did you uncheck the other options on the software dialogue (Allow internet search & Let Windows choose) ?

I have a Dell Dimension 8100 with XP home edition, upgraded from Windows ME(gag). I am trying to install a D-link wireless USB adapter, DWL-G120. The computer will reconize the new hardware, but the driver install wizard will not accept the folder with the drivers. I have installed this same adapter on a Dell 2400 desktop with no problems.

D-Link support says the problem is with the operating system and I need to contact Dell. Dell support tells me the problem can be corrected for a meager one-time fee of $99 or a 3 year support plan for $249, both of which I cannot afford.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Yesterday I turned on my PC and was greeted with the infamous blue screen which blocked me from getting to the log-in screen in both regular and safe mode. After a CHKDSK didn't solve anything I put my Windows XP Home Edition SP2 (2002 Edition) disc in and reinstalled the OS without reformatting.

That solved the problem and it was also the first time I used the CD to reinstall the OS. Everything was running fine, but when I followed the Help instructions on reconnecting to the LAN(the PC connected to the main computer through a router) I got the "The wizard cannot find your network hardware" message.

I did searches on Google to see what I have to do to connect to the internet after a reinstall but I'm still in the dark as to what I have to do/find just to get the network connection.

I don't have software for any of the drivers and I'm not aware of what drivers I need for the network connection. In the device manager these devices were represented by a yellow question mark icon:

Ethernet Controller
PCI Device
SM Bus Controller

Is there a way to do this?

I recently swapped video cards. My method was as follows:

1.) Uninstall video card drivers (reboot)
(windows tries to install generic drivers and wants me to reboot)
2.) Run driver sweeper to get rid of any remaining configurations or files. (reboot)
(Windows tries to install generic drivers again and wants me to reboot)
3.)Install new drivers (reboot)
I'd rather Windows just chilled out and let me do my thing without trying to install new drivers.

Is there a way I can configure it so that it only installs drivers when I tell it to?

Thanks,
Matt

my astranet ia101 scanner has a problem. i need to reinstall it to my pc, because of a hard drive crash and the techs had to wipe and reformat my drive, so i have to put everything back on it. i have reinstalled it before many times with no problem, but this time for some reason, my computer won't find the device driver for it now. i installed it with my disc that came with the scanner, and i also tried with a download from the umax website. when i restart my pc, windows recognizes that there is new hardware, but cannot find the driver. when i click on the vistascan icon, it tries to find it, but says, error, scanner access failed. everytime i run the windows add hardware wizard, it says cannot locate drivers for the scanner. the windows hardware wizard always asks me to put the windows 98 cd in, but the drivers aren't there. they are on the scanner cd and on my computer somewhere. after i installed the vistascan from the disc, it said successful install. the vista shuttle and the copy utility are fine- just the vista scan. how do i solve this? i have windows 98 on my pc.

Over the last year, all the new hardware devices I have bought will not work on my laptop. When I plug in the devices, they just bring up the found new hardware wizard and never does it work. I even have the disc for all of them and it still just doesn't work. Specifically, I have a lexmark printer. I have downloaded the drivers on their website but I still cannot install the printer because halfway through installation, I have to plug in the printer to the computer and it cannot be recognized. I went to Sony Vaio's website and updated a few things. I believe I'm working on SP3 right now. any advice or suggestions?

I need to add that I cannot find the XP disc. I'm not sure whether it came with my computer when I bought it but I just can't find it.

So, my computer suddenly started finding a handful of devices it can't find drivers for. I didn't add any new hardware. After trying all I could think of I resorted to trying a clean install. Sadly that did not help.

Can someone advise me on where to begin to diagnose this problem? Obviously I'm not very experienced with this.

I'm sure you'll need more information to truly help with this, but I'm not sure what to provide or how to obtain it.

Answer:No new hardware, can't find drivers even after clean install

Please provide more information. What do you mean your system is finding devices for which it can't find drivers? Please explain IN DETAIL.

Also, after the clean install did you download and install the chipset driver followed by all other appropriate drivers? Look in device manager - any yellow or red symbols?

Hi all, until last night everything was ok. After I'd cleaned the computer and plugged everything back in windows decides it can't find drivers for any of my usb devices (keyboard, mouse, camera, gamepad, joystick).

When it finds them it says new hardware found. with 3 choices:
Locate and install driver
Ask me again later
Don't show this message again

So I click the first option, and it searches for drivers but...'Could not find driver software'. I then click 'Check online for a solution' with no luck.

These devices are so basic that the manufacturers don't supply drivers for the products; they should all be with the OS.

What can I do guys? I'm a keen photographer and not being able to upload my photos via the camera or card reader is a real issue for me.

By the way the above process happens for all the usb hardware I have except the printer, usb flash drive, mouse and keyboard (luckily!)

But this time, after installing my printer (Epson Stylus R300) & rebooted, the add hardware wizard pops up 'new hardware found, Epson R300' & then proceeds to tell me there was an error blah blah. The printer is working fine though & know it is installed properly. Can i turn off this pesky wizard alert? & how please? Thanks in advance ppl ;-)

Answer:Add hardware wizard

This can happen if the sequence of adding the drivers for a piece of hardware is not followed. For many printers and scanners the software is loaded before the hardware is plugged in.If you think this has happened to you simply unplug, uninstall the drivers and reinstall in the correct order.

Is there any way to convince my computer that I do not have a new mouse, that I have the proper software installed for this mouse and that it should stop asking me to install it every time I boot up?

Answer:New hardware wizard

Have you gone through the Wizard at least once or do you cancel it each time? You MUST go thru it at least once, even if you installed the "proper" software. Sometimes the 'proper' software causes problems and is best left off as it can cause odd Windows behavior.

I have tried letting the wizard go through the process and search online for driver. I tried windows installer cleaner. I have tried registry fixes. I have deleted sipix files from registry (some I have been unable to remove. Nothing has worked. The wizard still wants to install the sipix camera (not even connected to pc). HELP

Culver

Answer:New Hardware Wizard

Download & install RegSeeker.

Run a search of the Registry for "sipix". Post screen shot of the results here. Wouldn't advise deleting any entries. Stay away from Reg Cleaners, they cause more problems than they solve (which is none).

Are you absolutely certain the device that is being found is the one that has been long gone ? I've been in situations where it turns out that what I thought was an old device was actually something built into the motherboard.

I had at one time tried to install a Xircom 10/100 card in my old crappy laptop, couldn't do it, now I just use the USB port. Anyway everytime I turn this antique on the add hardware wizard tries to prompt me to install "net" how do I turn this off? Also I have I have tried to install upgrade ram chips in this machine and nothing will work, most recently it was a 64 mg edo ram (IBM) chip and all this thing will do is beep and shut-down. I have an old Dell CPi, pentium 2, I have also tried to install a 128mg cp100 and it barfed that up too. I am running XP professional.

Thanks

Answer:Add hardware wizard won't go away

Try going to Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Services and disable the Plug And Play service. You will have to re-enable it if you want to install new hardware at a later date.

Does anyone know how to remove the different items in Device Manager? Everytime I boot, the new hardware wizard tells me I have new hardware. It tells me I have a UMAX scanner when I have a HP. In device manager under Imaging devices I have 4 unknown devices listed, 3 with X's through them and 1 with a yellow exclamation point. If I try to uninstall them the unit said the devices are in use. You don't have a remove key in device manager like in 98 or ME. My scanner isn't listed but it works. Anyone with any opinons? The scanner is a HP3200C parallel port.

Hi,

I bought a SATA/USB 2.0 external hdd. Every since, whenever I turn on my computer, I receive the Add Hardware Wizard for a SATA RAID array. When I click on "No" (I don't want to add new hardware), the next window asks me how I want to install it. I click Cancel.

But the next time I reboot, I have to do it again.

Is there a way to stop the Hardware Wizard windows from opening for this and any other SATA/USB 2.0 drives?

I have just installed XP Pro on a new PC. As expected, the Hardware Wizard popped up wanting to install things for me. If I let it search it autmotically, no drivers (for printer, scanner, external usb drive, etc) were ever found. If I then let it go to the internet, it also can't find them. To get it to work, I have to tell it to search in a specific directory and type in "C:windows/inf". Everything then loads fine so the drivers are there.Obviously this work around is ok for me but I'm curious now. I would expect the wizard to look in c:windows/inf for the automatic seach. Any idea why the hardware wizard does look there?

Answer:Hardware wizard and XP

Did you have the CD supplied for each item in the drive at the time? I think that the drivers in c:\windows\inf are possibly the generic ones so may not be the optimum ones to use.

Hi,

I'm been dealing with this pesky problem that I can't seem to put my finger on. Anytime I install new hardware such as a usb memory stick the new hardware wizard does not pop-up and Windows does not see the device. The work-around I've been using is to insert the stick and reboot...only then will Windows see the drive.

Now I just installed a scanner, all the software and appropriate drivers and I still can't get Windows to see the device...even with the work-around.

I never have these problmes on my home computer as the wizard automatically pops-up. Can anyone give me any insight on how to resolve this?

Thanks,
Chris

Every time I turn my computer on the add hardware wizard is on . I tried to install a printer, but it didn't work out. Now everytime I turn on my computer the wizard is there. How do I get rid of this?

Answer:add hardware wizard

What is the make and model # of your printer? Go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. In the Device Manager any device that have yellow flags need to have drivers installed. If there is one for your printer, right click it and Uninstall it. Now, unplug the USB cable from the computer end and restart the computer. There should be no new hardware wizard. Now go to the printer manufacturers support/download drivers site, type in the make and model # and download the driver for the printer. During the install it will tell you when to plug in the USB cable to finish the install.

any help

Answer:new hardware wizard

hello shaun ,

this is just for starters on the issue / it may fix it / starter steps for trouble shooting

now what i need to do is go to your (device manager)

now once there you will want to select from the toolbar of the window(veiw) then a drop down menu / from it you will select (show all hidden devices)

now if you see any (red or yellow) quotation marks , make a note of what they

now go to the (event veiwer) this is thru the (administrator tools) in the control panel
here you will find 3 to 4 subcatagories

you will want to check each of them for this is where windows keeps track of all errors
now you will want to make notes of the errors that have been recorded ( you do not have to make notes of double entries just of the dates of their happenings & how many there is)
you will get more information on the errors if you (right) click them / then select properties

also

do you have a Windows Xp cd, not the restore cd's that come with some systems, the cd will have the Windows logo & 3D hollowgram/image on it

if you do not maybe you can barrow one from a friend/family member/co-worker as long as it is the same version that is on your system

if you have (Windows XP Home Ed. sp2 ) then the cd will have to be that / if you have a cd with (Windows XP Home Ed. )you will have to slipstream (SP2 ) onto a disk that you create

this also applies to (Windows XP Professsional )

hi crosboro7,

Welcome to the Forums.

Just to verify, are you having this issue on all USB ports? Is the issue isolated to flashdrives / external drives or does it also happen on other usb devices (i.e. corded / wireless mouse)?

If it happens to all USB ports and on other usb devices, try to boot in Safe Mode and observe. If everything works fine in Safe Mode, there's most likely a third party app or a security software that's blocking access to the USB ports. Try to perform a clean boot and observe the system in normal mode.

If it is a USB printer, make sure you didn't change the USB port. You might have to save the driver you downloaded to your computer and then go to the device manager, select update driver and point to the saved driver and let it complete the update and then reboot your computer.

Hi~

My question is everytime I start up my computer I get the Found New Hardware Wizard that pops up for my printer. I've had my printer for about a year now, its an HP All-in-one 2355 series, I've never had this problem before, it just started happening a couple weeks ago. I tried to cancel or select option no to install printer but it still pops up every single time I turn my computer on. I've asked HP they've given me microsoft websites to go to delete a certain registry key, but there was an error message when I tried that. They've told me to try to unistall the printer using the printer cd and reinstalling it and update it with the appropriate drivers and updates for the printer, and it still keeps popping up every time I turn on the computer. How do I rid of this annoying problem? By t he way my printer works fine no problems using it.

Ok so I did a dirty install of windows xp pro, into an existing partition on a dell pc. The reason for the dirty install is there is no motherboard chipset disk that came with the pc, the drivers are stored in a folder called Dell in C:\. I start up the computer notice that many drivers arent installed including ethernet, usb, sound and graphics. These drivers should automatically detect from that Dell folder.

So I go into add hardware wizard and do a include this location in search, but anything inside C:\ is unable to be included, the ok button is greyed out.

If i simply type C:\ into where D:\ is it says it is unable to be located or something similar.

I have a feeling this came about because I installed onto an existing Partition but it is the only choice I have at the moment.

Thankfully most of those drivers could be set up with .exe files included in the folders but this computer is going to be a pain in the *** for plug and play devices otherwise (not my pc). Help??

After installing a new joystick (some problems initially but since resolved) I went to the event viewer in Administrative Tools and saw the following message. Plug and Play user-interface dialogs have been suppressed in Factory Mode. It appears as a warning and uses an event ID code of 270. After checking Microsofts Knowledge base (to no avail) I checked the event log back for several months. This same event is the first item listed every time that windows boots. If you try to open the Add Hardware Wizard it opens a window that reads Cannot run two device installations. You can only install one device at a time. Another device installation is underway, when it is finished you can try this wizard again. The joystick installation is the first hardware I have installed since the system came online. No problems noted in device manager. Any one have a solution to closing out a non existant device installation?

If you installed a new motherboard, then you need to install the drivers for that board. It should have come with a CD for that purpose. Check the Device Manager for any problems because if you are getting that error then Windows is not setting up the hardware properly. And..it would be nice if you posted what operating system you have.

I am running XP Home with SP 2, all up to date. Problem started when some USB devices stopped working. Scanner, printer are OK, keyboard, mouse and camera are not. So we must find whether these annomalaies are hardware or software related. What spyware/virus solutions are in place and being used? Do you have the Windows CD to reinstall if needed? Any problems showing in device manager? When did this start? If you haven't run the scans, I would start there. http://www.computerhope.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1134123580Since Add New Hardware doesn't work, I would quickly move to a Windows reinstall as that does not sound hardware related.

Hello all,
Whenever I plug anything into my USB port, whether it be my iPod, digital camera, or printer, I constantly get the "Found New Hardware Wizard". Is there any way to fix this? Thanks

Answer:Found New Hardware Wizard

Bump please.

I think that there might be something corrupt. Since I have recently had troubles with this laptop, I have rescanned my computer using DDS. Attached are the two log files it created. If anything else is needed, please advise. Thank you!

Re: OS Windows XP Home E

Recently installed Lexmark 2400 series(printer/scanner/copier) followed instructions about cancelling add hardware wizard and inserted installation disk. It froze after it prompted it would install automatically . So I went to device manager, updated the driver, and proceeded to install through add hardware wizard; having felt I had no other choice. Its working fine...I can copy, scan, and print.
The Only thing now is I keep getting the "Add hardware Wizard has detected new hard ware do you wish to install now" every time I open my computer. How can I have something to install if I already installed it ?
Thank you.

Hi all,Had a problem with XP media edition laptop and had to uninstall an anti virus software program in safe mode.Part of the problem caused by having two programs loaded was that "the found new hardware" icon in the system tray popped up and the add new hardware wizard also came up. (this happened in Safe mode aswell)Problem is - I haven't - as far as I know added any hardware and the wizard and notification in the system tray keeps coming up.Any one know how either how to prevent this or ascertain what the hardware is so i can download the appropriate software drivers.Any help would be greatly appreciated

Windows XP with Canon Pixma ip4200.
USB printer.
After installing the drivers and going through all the Canon instructions, if we unplug the printer and plug it back it, the found new hardware wizard comes up and asks for drivers. Even if we plug it back into the same port it keeps coming up. If we cancel out the printer won't work.
According to Canon it is something with the registry. What the heck is going on?

Answer:Found New Hardware Wizard

Do you have rights to your registry? What OS are you using? Is it in a networked environment? Do you have the latest drivers for the printer?

What happens if you tell Windows to just install the default Windows printer drivers?

Hi,Anybody experienced problem with New Hardware Detected wizard appearing every time PC started for a device that is already installed and working? For example I uninstalled my hard drive in Disk Drive-Device Manager and restarted my PC so that XP would re-detect it. The PC boots up OK and the HDD works just fine and the Drive again appears in Device Manager, but now New Hardware Detect wizard comes up everytime I start the PC statingthat it has found my Hard drive. Is this a duplicate driver problem? How do you stop Windows XP generating this wizard for no reason?Any advice appreciated.

Answer:XP Pro New Hardware Detect wizard

You will probably find that this goes away on its own.Marvin

Every time I boot up now I'm getting that popup.
I haven't installed or uninstalled Any Hardware lately.

When I tell it to look for the software to install it....it always tells me it can't find it.....and to put in the installation CD. (??)

What the Heck is it "talking" about?
How can I find out WHICH hardware specifically it is refering to??
(to know WHICH CD to put in !!))

Hello All and thank you in advance.

I have a Toshiba LapTop, 1135 S155
I have had this computer for a few years and have reinstalled the OEM OS a number of times, so I am somewhat familiar. I really don't like the OEM OS (Windoze XP Home) because I end up spending about a whole day uninstalling all the fluff.

I went and purchased Windoze XP Pro with SP2 and all the updates etc..

Things were fine for about a week or two then and now everytime I start the LapTop up The "New Hardware Wizard" appears. I have not installed any new hardware with the exception of a Wireless card it installed and works just fine. I have also installed a mouse, installed fine and works fine and I use one of the USB ports for a jump drive which installed and works just fine. I have gone through the wizard and it can not find any new hardware drivers so it wants to go online to search for one. Still can't find whatever it's looking for.

My first questions is - is there a way to find out what hardware it thinks it needs to install?
I have already gone through the device manager - all is fine. No cautions.

My second question is how can I stop this from happening? At the moment I click "cancel" and the wizard closes. The Icon in the system tray says there may be some troubles using the new hardware and the new hardware was not installed.

Just cancelling is just fine for me and I have been doing so for over a week now trouble free. But something is wrong somewhere. ... Read more
