I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there,

i would like to use GPS Navigation with my Nokia 6600 via Bluetooth GPS (Model Royaltek GPS x-Mini).
Prior usage i've to install the software on the MMC-Card of the mobile Phone via Nokia PC Suite (for Nokia 6600).

For BT i'm using the Toshiba SD Card 2 within Portege.

With the Toshiba Bluetooth Manager (3.20.01) i can discover and establish a serial connection via BT without problems.

When starting the Nokia PC Suite (that automatically "see's" the new BT Port ...) the connection failes.

Any idea ? Thanks ...

Answer:Portege R100 + BT SD Card 2 + Nokia 6600 with Nokia PC Suite ? NO CONNECT !

Hello

Unfortunately I can not give you a proper answer. The fact is that the Bluetooth works properly and notebook can communicate with the unit. Why the connection fails after starting Nokia PC suite is not easy to say.

In my opinion you should try to contact Nokia support. They have more experience with own software products and it is probably tested by Nokia. If you have a solution please let us know.

Good luck!

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!!! See my post in the consumerwatch forum for the background to my nightmare with the Nokia 6600.I have Nokia PC Suite installed on my computer. However it will not recognize my bluetooth enabled Belkin USB adapter i have got to connect to my Nokia 6600 via bluetooth. Does anyone have any software drivers to fix this problem? I am so fed up with this! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!! :(

Answer:Nokia 6600 and Belkin Bluetooth Dongle

I use a Belkin USB bluetooth adapter on my computer to communicate with my Sony T610, and it was fairly easy (this is not to rub the salt in).I don't know whether my Belkin bluetooth software is the same as yours. But having installed the Belkin software/drivers, I don't need any further software to connect with the phone. (Even the Nokia site doesn't suggest that you need the Nokia PC suite.)I don't know what steps you've taken (and you may have used the bluetooth adapter successfully with a previous phone), so don't get mad if you've done everything and it's still not working. But first make sure that the bluetooth adapter is properly installed. Check in Device Manager there are no yellow marks. You need to configure the bluetooth services that you want to run on your computer. You may have been asked to do this when you first installed the software or the driver, but check again. If you have My Bluetooth Places on your computer, double click that and use the Bluetooth setup wizard to find out. Select I want to configure services. Then try File Transfer first, and follow the prompts. Then activate Bluetooth on your Nokia. The first time you're supposed to give the phone a name and set visibility to ALL (you must have done that by now).On the computer, My Bluetooth Places, double click Find Bluetooth Devices. If it finds your phone, you should be prompted to "pair" the computer with the phone, by giving your computer a name, entering a pin code (any combination of numbers will ... Read more

Ok, so here is the story:
I was having a problem with my old graphics card (geforce 5700LE) when i would play world of warcraft. the game would randomly pause for several seconds, the audio would loop, both ingame and over teamspeak, then the game would unpause and keep going. every now and then when the game would start going again I would get texture errors where the game would retexture objects with the wrong textures or get all kinds of weird bright colored geometry all over the screen.
So i purchased the evga geForce 6600 hoping to fix the problem. Its only become worse. I installed the card and things were working great for a while. then the game froze up after probably an hour or so of play in the same manner it did on my old card. however this time when it started going again it was only for a frame or 2, then the whole computer locked up and i had to do a hard reset. when then i noticed my processor was posting as an athlon 1300+, not as an athlon 3000+ which is what it is.
So i put in my bios flash disk, update the bios which then sets the processor back up to 3000+. I start playing wow and it crashes in the same manner again. At this point i want to see if any other game has the same problem so i try star wars battlefront 2. As soon as the game tries to launch it crashes the computer.
I call evga. they tell me to hook the card up to its own power supply branch. i do that. the only available branch is coming of the floppy so i unplug the floppy.... Read more

When my phone begins to boot up, it crashes a couple seconds after the nokia logo pops up. Also, I don't think that the software is telling the hardware to charge the battery correctly because it has been charging for several hours but when detached from a charger, it immediately dies.
When on the charger, I tried a soft reset by holding the power button and volume down keys for 10-15 seconds which was ineffective I also tried a hard reset by holding the power button until the nokia screen appears, then holding the volume down button for the exclamation mark to appear but it shuts down before this happens.
Other notes: It shows the flashing icon light when on the charger and at times tries to boot up but when at the nokia screen shuts down.

Hello everyone!

I recently purchased a new graphics card for my built up machine (See the machine in my profile for details). Previously I had a GeForce MX 440, but it was old (the capacitors were crusty - the computer functioned fine but it would freeze and die whenever I tried to run Guild Wars or Aquamark 3 (a 3d benchmarking utility)). So I bought a new card. (GeForce 6600) I installed it, hooked it all up, but now the computer freezes or just up and reboots itself in the middle of the simplest tasks. What gets me is that it will run Aquamark brilliantly without a problem, even in the high-stress test. My hypothesis at the moment is that it's a software problem since the hardware seems to be working properly - but I've updated to NVidia's latest drivers and still nothing seems to be resolved.

After about two hours of this, I had to resort to some cathartic mass-murder on some console games so I didn't put a foot-sized dent in my case.

So in summary, drivers are updated, mobo chipset is updated, I'm going to try a firmware update tonight. I've got a 350W power supply, but I -do- have a lot of peripherals (2 hard drives, a floppy, a CD-RW and a DVD drive, and the PS isn't used to having to send power to the video card - the old 440 didn't have a power jack)

Another solution I've been considering is a driver rollback. I can't do it with my current system resources, considering the constant crashing (I mean serious... Read more

Do you know your psu's specs like the brand, and amperages per rail?

A underpowered psu can cause reboots like you say.

You might also test your memory too, make sure it doesn't get errors, try googling memtest and running it for a while.

I?m a newcomer to this board so hello to all.
A little background on my problem: I put together a new box and am having some problems playing 3d games especially Battlefield 2 with this computer. The new parts included:
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ socket 754 OEM
Soyo K8USA Dragon Ultra (ALi M1687/M1563 chipset)
PNY GeForce 6600 256mb AGP
1 gig DDR 333
C-Media 6.1
Maxtor 250 gig EIDE, Seagate 300 gig EIDE
HP DVD Writer, Light-ON DVD Writer
Ultra 500 watt power supply
Ultra Wizard case
Added one fan in front, one in rear in push-pull configuration

After a clean install of Windows XP Pro SP2 and other basic software I have been having a heck of a time achieving stabile performance. When I click to join a game in Battlefield 2 I see the opening graphics picture with high pitched beeping sounds then the computer restarts. Upon windows booting I get the recovery message and the usual driver causing the crash explanation. I am able to play some games, Doom 3, Call of Duty, but not others. I have tried everything that I can think of, upgrading and downgrading every driver I can find for all hardware and chipset. Tried to upgrade bios, but the system became unusable until I rolled it back from 8usa2aa5 to 8usa2aa3. When trying to do a DirectX 3D Benchmark in PC Wizard 2005 I get an error ?pcwizard.dll has encountered a problem and needs to close.? I have checked the RAM with Memtest86+ 1.65, and it found no problems after 5 passes. I will let it run tonight while I sle... Read more

I can purchase the following cards for the same price (after rebate):

eVGA GeForce 6600 256mb Core Clock 300 MHz Memory Clock 500MHz
eVGA GeForce 6600 GT 128mb Core Clock 500 MHz Memory Clock 900MHz

For gaming, which card is the better value? Is Clock Speed more important than memory?

definately the 6600gt, although I have it and I am not too impressed, it does play all the ne wgames though. if you cna afford it m aybe go with a 7600gt. you are actually looking at the exact same card as mine, and the fan is LOUD and ir barely keeps the card at safe load temps.I am thinking about buying an arctic silencer for it.have a look at thse benchmarks, and keep in mind your card runs at higher speeds than the cards listed here.

So apparently SC Double agent for PC requires you to have a video card that has SmartShader3.0. I have my Radeon x800Pro and it has 2.0, which means I cant play this game.

I will leave flaming of this decision by Ubi to other message boards, but here I have a question from the technical point of view - can they release a patch that would allow SM2.0 people to play? Or does that require redoing the whole graphics engine?
P.S. Sign my petition if you care http://www.petitiononline.com/sm2patch/petition.html

Downloaded this demo right. Installed and everything started out ok, the previews and such. Then it got to the point of loading the game part of the demo. The chopper is flying over the ship and such... then a popup comes up saying runtime error and the game shuts off. Now, after checking the requirements, it states 1GB of ram, I got 768MB. It says something about 3.0 shader on the video card and mine has 2.0, whatever that means. So my question is, hardware or software, windows or demo? Thanks for any help.

Answer:SplinterCell:Double Agent Demo

If it says that, and you have below, surely logic would tell you that's why you're getting the error???

I have a Nokia Lumia 635, which I bought 2 years ago. The call and message functions work well, but Internet Explorer has been chronically crashing. Also, in the past week or two, Facebook Messenger kept crashing a few seconds after startup, no matter what I did (even when I uninstalled and reinstalled)!
I was thinking that the crashing may have been caused by downloading many photos and apps that take up a lot of space. I tried uninstalling many of them, as well as deleting photos I don't want anymore. However, it hasn't solved the problem! Please help!

As the title states, I'm wondering if I should grab the 6600 256mb or the 6600 GT 128mb version. Price-wise, it seems the GT would be better, but memory-wise I'm not sure as to whether there's a big performance difference.

Looking at: http://graphics.tomshardware.com/gra...s-pcie-07.html would say the 6600 GT, but those charts don't show the 256mb version of the 6600 and I'm seeking a second opinion.

I just got a Nokia Lumia 920 (behind the times I know) and it worked great until I installed the latest wp 8.1 update. Directly after the update the first thing I tried was the camera,,, it loaded for a second then a message appeared. SOMETHING WENT WRONG cannot load camera. No camera apps work at all! Brand new phone, 1st day of use. I tried everything, hard reset, soft reset, letting the battery completely die (heard that worked for someone), resetting camera in settings, re-flashed the firmware with the Lumia recovery tool... you name it I have tried it. Any suggestions?

Formatted C:/ and reinstalled Windows. Cleaned out fan and re-inserted ram (one chip was not in properly at first.). It's not overheating, dxdiag detects my "almost-a-gig" amount of RAM I should have (Integrated Video card).

But opening programs is slower than it should be, and when I watch videos or listen to music, the sound lags, skips, and repeats as well as the video pausing about once a second. My computer itself randomly keeps freezing for very short periods of time(Mainly evident by my mouse stopping as it moves). Since the format, I have gotten one BSOD. What's happening?

Having found out that an older system currently running W7 64 bit can be "upgraded" to W10 if a clean install of W7 32 bit is used, do I have to also install all the upgrades also? I have a valid product key and a 32 bit copy of W7 sp1. Apparently my Athlon 64 X2 4800+ socket 939 does not have the instruction set to run 64 bit W10 but will work with 32 bit W10.

Answer:Upgrading freshly installed W7

Hi Tinmar,
Have a look at this tutorial,(our w10 sister forum), also check the product key link in it.

I recently finished a completely new PC, and have been having problems. I'm using a DFI Lanparty UT nf3 250gb mobo. First of all, I had a defective hard drive and Windows XP wouldn't install correctly. Now I have a new hard drive and it's acting up again. I keep getting the error: "Ntkrnlmp.exe Could Not Be Loaded Error Code 7" when I need to install the RAID drivers for the mobo. And now when I try to access the mobo BIOS right after startup, it gets as far as "detecting array" and merely reboots. Any suggestions?

I have freshly reformatted my PC(windows 7) in an attempt to nuke all the hangs and BSODs. Previously, my PC will just fully freeze and nothing will save it but a hard reset, months of troubleshooting got me nowhere. It worked, but now there are more hangs, but different from those I got before.

About every hour, any random action will send the computer into a semi-freeze. Usually it's a mouse click, but any keyboard input can also cause it. The cursor becomes the animated loading circle, and everything I click will turn into "Not Responding", including taskbar/windows explorer. (It just occurred again as I typed the previous sentence). The cursor still moves around if I move the mouse. Ctrl+Alt+Tab takes a very long time to evoke. These hangs usually last between 3-10 minutes.

The LCD display on my keyboard(Logitech G510 running LCDSirreal) continues updating itself throughout the hangs(while in the pre-reformat hangs, it would freeze up too), showing consistently low CPU and RAM usage, about 1-5% and 30% respectively(come to think of it, RAM usage seems suspiciously high at idle). CPU/GPU temps are always low, around 30 celsius and 40 celsius respectively.

Installed and updated drivers using Advanced System Optimizer 3 from a fresh, clean, driverless reformat.

Protected by Bitdefender free, scanned by MBAM, all without any reports.

so i was giving one of my various machines a fresh windows vista home premium install, the installation and after install seems to be littered with odd happenings ill throw them at you in list form.

* the installer doesnt ask me if i want to register my pc as a home computer, work computer, or public computer.

* windows has no connection when starting up for the first, or second, third, fourth or fifth for that matter! this particular pc has both wired and wireless connection capabilities.

* when i go into the network and sharing center and attempt to change and modify settings in the sharing and discovery tab it just reverts back to its original setting, for instance my network discovery is off i try to turn it on, and it does nothing but ask me for the admin confirmation, i click continue and it reverts back to the off setting.

this problem im having is most odd, if you fine people at the tech support forums could help me that would be great. thank you in advance!

Hello,

I have just installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 Pro (x64) onto an external hard drive (connected via USB 2.0). (I used a freeware program called WinToUSB to achieve this.) It now exists alongside my normal Windows 7 installation (which is on an internal SSD). My goal is to upgrade the external copy to Windows 10 without having it alter the way my PC boots normally when the external HDD is powered off.

Currently, I can switch between the two copies of Windows 7 by choosing the boot device from my mobo or just by turning on the PC with one of the drives disconnected. My hope is to keep it this way (in a "kind of, but not really, dual-booting" scenario).

My plan is to run the Windows 10 upgrade on the external Windows 7 while my internal SSD is unplugged from the mobo (an Asus "P8Z77-I Deluxe/WD").

Will this work as I expect it to? My hope is that there will be little to no evidence of Windows 10's existence when I turn my PC on while the external drive is disconnected (or powered off). Will Windows 10 affect my mobo's UEFI BIOS or anything like that? Basically, my fear is that Windows 10 will somehow insert itself into the mobo or somehow lock me out of booting normally from my SSD. (All I really want to do is test out Windows 10 for a while before I upgrade my normal Windows 7 install.)

Thanks!

Answer:Freshly installed Win 7 Ultimate Slowed Down

Question: Did you install as upgrade or fresh install?, if upgrade...that may be the culprit. In my PC repair experience many times new installs that are slow are because parties install a new system over an existing old one without removing the old one first.Hope that helps.

I'm wrestling with this issue for a week now, since I decide to format my hard drive and reinstall my Win 7 Ultimate X64.
I'm using my computer and out of nowhere it suddenly slows down drastically and finally freezes, nothing helps but hitting the reset button.
Interestingly it never happens during watching videos or playing video games, only when I browse or I try to return to Windows. I'm still looking for the pattern in the error.
I checked the event log, I saw a few error messages with the graphics drive, I have read that the latest version is unstable so I reverted to a previous version, which was said stable, but it didn't solve the issue. Nor did turning off hardware acceleration in Firefox (the issue didn't appear exclusively during browsing anyway).
Currently I'm stuck. The event log doesn't tell anything useful for me any more, so I'm turning to the experts here, maybe they can solve my issue.

Thanks in advance!

p.s.: I should add that my previous installation worked fine but it was several years old, slow to boot up etc. so I felt it's time to reinstall it. So hardware issues are most likely ruled out.

Need help guys i formated and stilled windows xp sp 3 on my friends computer and he has lag spikes every few minutes for like 2 or 3 seconds. I formated his computer b4 and everything was alright then but now this lag spikes what could be wrong?

I instaled all the drivers even downloded a driver scanner and he searched for updates and everything was update so what could be wrong?

btw i used the same windows xp version as i got on my comp and everything works fine here for months now.

so pls help

Answer:Freshly instaled windows... lag spikes

Try booting into Safe Mode and see if the problem still occurs. If not, it's a XP issue, likely with drivers. Check the Event Viewer and see if Windows is logging any issues. Aside from that, format and reinstall XP, install all MB drivers, get XP up to date, install video drivers, and then any other needed drivers.

I was using a file in OpenOffice Calc about an hour ago. (Many hours spent on it.)

I saved my work every 5 or 6 minutes. And now, I can't find it anywhere.

I got my PC from my Grandson. He broke it so it won't close all the way but it seems to work fine as long as I leave it on my desk. It was clean of files when I got it so it's easy to look everywhere. Not in the Recycle Bin. I have about 12 files in it and some are from 3 days ago so I know that I didn't empty it with the missing file in it.

How in the heck could it disappear? And is it lost forever?

Thank you

So, today I got all my parts to assemble my very first computer. After the assembling job, I moved on to the Windows 7 OS installation. I was happy it was ending, but I got a surprise

"Unexpected I/O error"

It tells me things about damaged hardware but the only hardware plugged in to my computer are:
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB HDD and an ASUS DVD writer, nothing else. These hardware are perfectly recognized by the BIOS, so I really don't know what the issue is. I even tried it with Windows XP, but now I get a 0x000007b (or something similar to that). There is no GPU installed yet, cuz I haven't got it yet (I assume I can use the intel hd 4600 onboard one since the HDMI screen pops up on my TV)

I've checked the HDD and there is no problem with it, however, I don't have a 2nd DVD writer to test it, but I assume it's perfectly working 'cuz it's only +- 15 hours old.

Any help is very appreciated,

many thanks

Try a VGA monitor.

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals,

Boot into BIOS setup, reset to defaults, save changes. (If an EFI BIOS you'll need to decide if you want UEFI BIOS vs. Legacy BIOS. If UEFI follow these special steps for Install, otherwise enable Legacy BIOS or Compatibility Support Module to proceed with normal install.) Set DVD drive first to boot, HD second, set SATA controller to AHCI, Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into Windows 7 installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here.

So I was having some problems with getting a wireless USB adaptor to work, and after talking to tech support, etc., it seemed like the problem was buried deep in Windows files, so it seemed like a re-installation was in order (though there were no other issues). I tried to just do a repair install, but computer would do everything until it rebooted for finalising the installation -- and then it would get to the splash screen (either just before or just after the splash screen), and proceed to just give me a blank screen for eternity.

Since I have files on there I haven't backed up (yes, I know, stupid of me!), I didn't want to format that drive. So I took my old 4GB hard drive with data I hadn't looked at in 3 years, and moved the cables from my main hard drive to the small hard drive (so the major hard drive is totally not connected now). I booted from the CD, chose to do a full NTFS format and installation. It went along fine as it installed all the initial files, then it restarted as it was supposed to, but the computer would display the splash screen, then crash (blank screen). I tried the same with quick FAT23 format, and with repair installation, and they all give similar results. Twice I got error messages when the thing crashed: once it said that \system23\hal.dll needed to be repaired; the other time it said that the lz32.dll header checksum didn't match the computed checksum.

In summary: The computer worked fine other than a networking bug. I switched ... Read more

Hi guys, 1st time poster.

About a month ago, i was using windows 7 and it was crashing non stop, even while doing minor tasks like watching a video on youtube. I tried to do a virus scan and it would crash in the middle of it. In the end, i decided to update to windows 10 and to my amazement the crashing stopped. However it was far from perfect, when i am live streaming from sites like Twitch my cpu usage would go as high as 80%. The intervals however are random. I could watch a stream for 2-3h and it would be fine (i would even be playing games while twitch was running in the background) and some other times my computer would start to lag (even on other sites such as youtube there would be a delay while scrolling down the page) in under an hour and the cpu usage would be through the roof. The only way i found to fix this would be to restart my computer. Today however, i was playing a game (dota 2) and my computer had a BSOD for the 1st time on windows 10 with the error "CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT".

I have updated all my drivers and BIOS to the latest versions (to my knowledge). I have ran a full scan on "bitdefender total security 2016" with nothing found. My window's update is also up to date.

Hello Everyone,

I recently bought a ton of new computer parts to build myself a new rig with my Christmas bonus. Well everything came in and put everything together and everything seemed to boot up fine.

My only issue is that my computer randomly restarts and when it loads back into windows it says that it unexpectedly shut down. I have never actually seen the BSOD, only the error report that mentions it. I clicked the option to not automatically restart so I can see what's going on, but when it crashes, instead of a BSOD I come to a blank frozen black screen. It has done this about 5-6 times on me already, and it ALWAYS does it when I am not around. I can use the computer for several hours, i.e. playing games or browsing the internet and it won't crash, only when I leave it alone idling. Every instance that it restarted on me I had my "EA Download Manager" up and running, I just want the computer on enough so I can download Bad Company 2 which takes me roughly 8 hours with my internet speed.

I have:
1. Updated ALL my drivers
2. Undone my CPU overclock
3. Ran memtest which passed 100% fine on the extensive test

My Computer specs include:
AMD Phenom II x4 965 ~3.8 GHz 35 degree stable

I'm working on a neighbors HP Netbook. It had W7 installed on it, and is almost new. Lately, whenever you try to open a file or program, it tries to delete it. It automatically pops up the confirm to delete warning multiple times. I used the recovery partition to restore the computer to factory, the problem still exists. I ran a 3rd party software called Wipe Clean from a bootable CD, deleted the recovery and other partition, re-installed W7 from a disk, and the problem is still there. I tried seeing if there was a hidden partition being missed using Gparted, and I found nothing.Does anyone have any idea what might be going on? Any thoughts are appreciated.

Answer:Freshly Wiped Drive Still Has Virus?

I googled for Wipe Clean, unable to find. Would have liked to see just what it does.Booting from the W7 CD should have given you the option to delete all partitions & that normally would remove all infections.

Hey there, after some virus problems I set up my system from the scratch, formating the harddrive and reinstalling Windows. I also downloaded the Lenovo System Updater, installed all updates and downloaded the ThinkVantage Solution Center. Now, the PC works again BUT the WiFi adapter does not work. It seems to be non-existent, if I press F9 it says I am suppossed to press the hardware switch. I have a ThinkPad Edge 15, it does not have such a switch at all. In the hardware manager i find one network device without driver, so I suppose this is it. However, no driver seems to work. I downloaded the WiFi dirver(s) from the Lenovo website and installed them, nothing happens. What can I do? Here are my specifications:-Thinkpad Edge 15-Windows 7 Home Premium (OEM)- the driver I installed which did not work: Intel Wireless LAN (bg, abg, abgn) for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), XP - ThinkPad Thank you so much in advance for you help!!! I am pretty certain that the hardware works, before I set uo the system WiFi was not at all a problem. Best Wishes Tobias

Answer:System set up freshly - WIFI not working

If it's an Intel wireless card, you could always try the auto update on Intel's website and see what it comes up with.

Hello guys, I Installed Windows 7 Ultimate and I got a lot of BSODs so I decided to format and do a fresh install of Windows 7, this time enterprise but the BSODs
continue

System specs:

Full Retail
The hardware has 3 days.
Windows was installed yesterday

Hardware:
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3
Graphics Card: Gigabyte Radeon HD 6870
Processor: Intel Core i5 2500k
Ram: Corsair Vengeance 8gb
PSU: Corsair 650W
Hard Drive: Barracuda 500GB

Please help me figure what what's wrong,
Thanks in advance

Answer:BSOD on freshly installed Windows 7

Crash points to memory problems or driver conflicts. If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

Run the boot version of Memtest86+ paying close attention to Parts 2 and 3 of the tutorial. Also, in case Memtest86+ misses anything and comes up with no errors, run the extended version of the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool for at least five passes. These you may want to run overnight since they take a long time to complete (run them an hour before bed each of the next two nights and check before going to sleep that they are still running).

   Warning
Before you proceed with the following, answer these two questions: Are you still under warranty? Does your warranty allow you to open up the machine to check hardware? If you are unsure of the answers to these questions, contact your system manufacturer. WARNING: The steps that follow can void your warranty!!!

For Part 3: If You Have Errors: If you swap any memory components, follow these steps for ESD safety:Shut down and turn off your computer.
Unplug all power supplies to the computer (AC Power then battery for laptops, AC power for desktops)
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and ensure all power drains from components.
Make sure you are grounded by using proper grounding techniques, i.e. work on an anti-static workbench, anti-static desk, or an anti-static pad. Hold something metallic while touching it to the anti-static surface, or use an anti-static wristband to attach ... Read more

I bought a new laptop, a Toshiba Satellite C855 1CW. I installed Win7 Ultimate x64.
I can connect to the internet through an Ethernet cable, but cannot receive any WiFi signals.
When I go to "Manage wireless networks" it says that Wireless is not currently enabled, how do I enable it?

Thank you.

Answer:Freshly installed Win 7, cannot receive WiFi.

You probably need to turn it on using one of the touchkeys above the keyboard? Usually it lights up when it is turned on......check that in the manual.

Did you install the laptop specific drivers, after installing Ultimate? That might also be the problem.

Yesterday I did a clean install of Windows 8.1 in order to fix a BSOD problem

All of my hardware checks out great, but I'm being very careful about adding programs and devices.

I have a few questions:

1. Should I look for updates for anything that Windows tends to miss? Dell updates?
2. I took Malwarebytes off because I heard about it causing BSOD. Any other recommendations for protection or does Windows do a pretty decent job?
3. Any other things you'd like to recommend I have on my computer to keep it running smooth and avoid BSOD are appreciated!
So far Windows 8.1 runs very smooth!

Answer:Adding anything to freshly installed Windows 8.1

hello ,I will add a few comments ,I have use malwarebytes for years ,and recently bought the pro version ,and use it along with windows defender ,all is ok so far ,but I do watch where I surf and download programs from ,I have never had malwarebytes cause a bsod ,they are usually caused by bad ram or device driver errors ,also best that you get Dell updates from dell and not windows
you should have gotten a error message with the bsod that would help with what caused it

Answer:guys i have recently updated my nokia L520 den after it my phone starts up and den shows nokia n

I just answered something similar on another thread. You can go through this.
You can try to soft reset first.
Volume down and power button until the phone vibrates. Phone will restart if it works.
Otherwise -
This is from the support site -
The problem you are experiencing may be caused by a software problem on your phone. You will need to perform a factory reset to try and resolve the problem.
Please note: All information on your phone will be deleted and anything that has not been backed up will be lost during this process. If you cannot access your phone's menu, unfortunately you will not be able to back-up any data.
Make sure your phone is powered off.
Press and hold the 'volume down' button.
Press the 'power' button until the phone vibrates, then release the 'power' button.
Keep the 'volume down' button held until you see an '!' on the screen, then release the 'volume down' button.
When the '!' appears, press the following buttons in order:
'volume up'
'volume down'
'power'
'volume down'
You should see rotating gears on your screen for around 5 minutes.
Your display will then turn blank for 30 seconds while your phone restarts.
It will take several minutes for your phone to restart. Once your phone has restarted you will need to follow the on-screen instructions and complete the initial set-up process on your phone.

Hi,I bought this Nokia Lumia 820 in Jan,2013 from Chennai,India. After 6 months I faced some issues like low battery life and also a line at the center of the screen. So I went to Nokia Care, Taramani, Chennai-India,they told me that they will send it to their head office and may take a week time.I agreed and went back on the desired date .Then they told that Company has decided to give me a new Lumia 820 instead of my old Lumia 820 as they were not able to get the accurate solution. But the warranty will be carry forward.I agreed and came back home. From then onwards, I didn't faced any issues. Now after 2 years,I broke my LCD of same Lumia 820 accidentally in San Francisco,CA-USA.I went to one of the repair center here and the first question he asked me was "Did anybody tried to open it?".I replied no after in Chennai,India and that too was new.To my shock he said "It's a fake copy ...the screws were stripped."They cheated and gave me used phone instead of my new phone.
Is this the way they are cheating customers.
I need an answer for this from Nokia India.

Answer:Fraud:Nokia Care ,Chennai have given me fake copy of Nokia Lumia 820 after I faced some issues. What do I do?

Hi guys, greetings from Nairobi. I've had my Nokia Lumia 620 for a little over 6 months now. I was on 8.1 through the developer's preview. So I was just sitting there, hadn't used my phone for around 15 minutes. When I checked the phone, it was stuck on the Nokia screen. I assumed that it was restarting so I left it for a couple more minutes. It's been on the screen for around 5 hours. I have tried the soft and hard reset several times but still nothing works. I'm still stuck on the Nokia screen and the device is not detected when I plug it on the laptop through the USB cable. Seen a couple of videos on using Navifirm but can't do much because the device isn't being detected. Hoping I won't have to take it to the care center. Anything else I can try? Looking forward to your responses. Much thanks.
By hard resetting I followed the following steps:
Turn off the Lumia,
Pressed and held the Power Button, did not release until the phone vibrates.
Pressed and held the Volume Down Button, did not release until the LCD showed the exclamation mark.
Pressed Volume Up Button Key and released
Pressed Volume Down Button Key and released
Pressed Power Button Key and released
Pressed Volume Down Button Key and released.
The soft reset was simply power button and volume down button.
I should also point out that the USB cable I'm using isn't the one that I got the phone with :) lost that one.
Thanks guys.:)

Answer:My Nokia Lumia 620 has been stuck on the Nokia startup screen for 5 hours now.

Try a different cable and use Nokia Care Suite to reset the phone, you will lose everything on the phone but it should reset it to factory settings. You will then probably need to get it updated via Developer preview again...good luck.

I've read some similar (but not identical issues) on the forum. Hopefully someone can assist.
My phone battery went dead while using GMAPS which ate up the battery very quickly.
Been trying to charge it for hours, but all I get is a flashing WINDOWS symbol at the bottom of the phone, then the NOKIA logo appears about every 30 seconds, but then nothing else happens.
Tried pressing the POWER OFF and VOLUME BUTTON simultaneously for extended periods, but no joy.
I have too much stuff on the phone to do a hard reset, and I'm on the road, so kind of in need in a quick and easy solution that doesn't affect my data (if one exists).
Thanks
Al

Answer:Windows 10 Nokia Lumia 930 - NOKIA logo flashes up, but does not boot

Maybe the device is on a reboot loop somehow, when you try to charge it keeps on trying to reboot but fails because the battery is out of enough power to finish the boot.
Leave the device connected to the charger for a while as the device is deeply discharged then try the soft reset combo power off and volume button.

Windows and android started a new beginning in 2011
Windows phone 7x
And
Android 2.3
.......
So in that beginning time why apps developer went to develop apps for android not for Windows phone?
. . . . . . . .
Because If in the beginning itself developer would have decided to go with windows phone instead of android.
Than today's image of widows would be different.
. . . . . . . .
Than why developer went with android not with windows to develop huge n classy apps .
Is there any term n condition by MS/Nokia for app development which Google didn't forced on apps designers?
Does MS/nokia harmed itself by putting their T&C which Google left n pulled the developers attention to do job freely.??
.
Hope you'll understand what exactly I wanna ask?

Answer:MS/NOKIA VS ANDROID. Does Ms/Nokia made mistake in the past for which they paid.

What was it about Android that started with 2.3 that marks it as a "new beginning"? Google Play started way back in 2008, they had a full 3 years worth of commerce and sharing the market with Apple before Windows Phone 7 came along.

Please can you help? Normally I have no troubles taking heaps of photos & videos with the Nokia Pro Camera App on my Nokia Windows phone, but last night I recorded about 3 minutes of footage and after recording it had completely disappeared. The footage was no where to be found, not in my camera roll, not in any of the folders and not on my onedrive. I thought I must have made a mistake so I took about 10 seconds of footage as a test and it saved fine. I also turned my phone on and off. This morning my friend tried to record about 4 minutes of footage, and again, afterwards- the same thing.. no where to be found :( Any suggestions?

Evening ladies and gents,

The issue I am having is a friend asked me to assist with his computer that appeared to have a virus of some sort, applications were running poorly or not opening at all, I informed him since he had his XP disk that I would just start from scratch for him.

Once the computer starts up there is a long period of time to wait when an application is opened or used. (i.e. control pannel comes up quickly but accessing system to get into device manager takes about 5 minutes to open)

I have now noticed this happens when using other applications such as installing drivers and updating windows through windows update, it took 5 hours for the validation software from windows to install onto the computer. I know I do not have a harddrive issue since I have tryed it in another PC but I don't have a spare ram, processor or motherboard to zero down the issue.

Just looking for advice on what you all may think the problem is, I am convinced that it is a hardware issue but I am getting rather stumped.

The computer is a Toshiba Satellite L35-1045 laptop with a celeron processor 1GB ram 100GB harddrive running XP SP2.

Thank you for your time and help.

Kyle

Answer:Issues with opening applications on freshly installed XP

Hello Kyle

It sounds like a hard drive problem to me. How did you check it in another machine?

I would run chkdsk
Start/Run and type in
cmd

At the command prompt type
chkdsk /r (there is a space before /)
Enter
Reboot.

You can also run chkdsk from rhe XP installation CD if it would be easier
Configure your PC to boot from CD if it isn't already set up that way. You may need to enter the BIOS to configure the PC to boot from the CD.
Set the boot order to
Floppy (if present)
CDROM
Hard Disk
SAVE and EXIT

Start your PC with the XP Setup CD in the drive. When you see the "Press any key to boot from CD..." prompt, do so and let the CD-based boot process begin.

When the Recovery Console option is offered ("Press R to start the Recovery Console"), do so. You may be asked which Windows installation to enter, in which case type the number of the Windows installation you wish to work on (usually "1").

When prompted, enter the Administrator's password for that Windows installation. If you did not set a password just press ENTER

At the command prompt, type
chkdsk /r (there is a space before /)
Enter

.

Hello nuclearz0r and welcome to TSF!

Many of the dumps attached are D1: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL bugchecks and are pointing to the driver culprit iusb3xhc.sys (Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver).

Update this driver here.

dtsoftbus01.sys is listed in your loaded modules list, this is the Daemon Tools driver. I recommend fully uninstalling Daemon Tools as it's a very popular cause of BSOD's. Optional visualization programs are: PowerISO, ImgBurn, etc.

GVTDrv64.sys is listed in your loaded modules list, this is the Gigabyte Easy Tune 6 driver. Rather than updating this driver, I recommend fully uninstalling this utility as well as any other motherboard utilities from your system as they are known to cause issues.

Patrick

Just wondering what applications people here have for building new systems and running initial tests or for testing out upgrades? I'm going to be building my rig in the new week or so and am trying to compile a decent bootable CD or DVD I can use to go in and test out my machine to make sure everything is working properly.

I have memtest86 already but would love to hear of some more tools people use for diagnostics on their rigs, preferably ones that can be accessed before going into Windows whenever possible.

Also, is there any decent free disc imaging software out there that you guys would recommend? I know of a few paid solutions but would prefer a free option if it can do a good enough job. Something I can use to create a recovery disc image once I get Windows 7 installed and some crucial apps on there.

Thanks guys

Answer:Bootable discs for freshly built systems...

I usually just load up Prime95 or IntelBurnTest to stress a new build. If it passes that stuff then it's likely OK. Sometimes though OC's may be stable in those test but crash when applications are launched. There's no one solution.

I have just installed Win XP Pro in a freshly formatted partition. It appeared to be installing properly, loaded all the drivers, and spent time configuring, but came up with a normal desktop but no Taskbar or START button. Same result after several reboots. The only thing I've been able to access is Task Manager which shows explorer.exe running even though I can't access it.

However, in Safe Mode, I appear to have a fully functioning OS ( except cannot access internet). I have read the previous threads of CHASLANG and followed his appropriate suggestions. Regedit shows the shell to be explorer.exe. But sfc /scannow says "Windows File Protection could not initiate a scan of protected system files." and then follows with "The RPCV server is unavailable" I have no way to install Hijack This. Since this is on a freshly formatted drive and can't access the internet, I just can't believe that this is caused by malware ... but I also can't believe that this is happening at all with a fresh installation of Windows.

I neglected to mention that while explorer.exe is running, it is ponderously slow ... like 10 min. per command, and it takes over 1/2 hr. to get through the driver log on startup and about 1 1/2 hrs. to get fully loaded. But I do have enough functioning that I should be able to do whatever is necessary to get it running in normal mode if only I knew what is necessary.

Answer:Freshly Installed XP Pro has no Taskbar or Start button

The task bar and start menu didn't actually get dragged down to the bottom of the screen did they? See if you can drag it back up, it is possible to minimize them.

I recently spent a lot of quality time working on a test T510 getting all of my apps and settings just right so that I could prepare an image for my company.  The image creation process went smoothly however when I pulled the image back down to the T510 upon reboot instead of seeing a Windows XP spash screen all I get is a blinking cursor. A co-worker of mine was able to take my image and use it on his test T510 that he has and it worked great for him. I didn't change any of the settings on my T510 between creating the image and loading the image so I don't know why it wont boot.  I am using Symantec Ghost 8.2 Corporate Edition for my imagaing software. Thanks in advance for any advice.

and a fresh copy of XP was put on. (cd was clean and free of scratches)

PC = 3 months old but is running like a 6 yr old computer. Amazingly slow.
eg. put in a cd it takes around 30 secs to recognize it. When loading up software alot of .dll error messages seem to come up...which is v. strange
considering it is a fresh install of windows. I've done a hell of alot of reinstalls but have never come across a case like this. Did a quick memory test and it seemed fine. 3 different tests done on HDD - all perfect results)

I am baffled.
[SPEC: dell dimension p4 3.0GHz 512mb ram, has not been connected to net since reinstall hence no AV installed or FW]

ok heres my problem, running a p3 600mhz. it was running xp fine for awhile, then encountered some probs so i booted to dos, fdisked it and formatted. now i cant seem to get it to boot from any floppys and have cd rom support and whenever i restart it i get this error "Partition doesent exist, save to disk feature disabled" i have one primary dos partition on the drive, so its there, but it says that it doesent exist when i first boot up. when it boots and loads from the bootdisk, i get the option of starting with cdrom support, or w/out. it boots fine w/out cdrom support, but i cant do anything without a cdrom. when i select w/ cdrom support it hangs when it tries to load the cdrom driver. can anyone plz shed some light on the problem? i really need to get xp loaded on this. also if i go into the bios and try to get it to boot from cdrom first, with the xp cd in the drive, it just hangs too. I hope this wasnt too confuseing

hey,
i'm in the process of sourcing out parts for a new PC. I'm wondering two things:
a) What should i install? Windows 7 or Mac OS X?
b) on that idea, which video editor would provide better performance? Adobe PPro (Premiere Pro) or Apple's own Final Cut Pro?

thanks.

Hi,

I just finished installing Windows 7 Enterprise x86 on someones PC, and installed some drivers and applications.

However, I've gotten 2 BSOD's (so far) whilst browsing with Internet Explorer, the computer was not stressed. Another one was during an online ESET Virusscan.

I don't quite feel like installing Windows 7 YET again, so any help trying to locate the error and fixing it is much obliged.

Answer:Multiple BSODs on freshly installed Windows 7

There has been a third BSOD when the computer was idle, for about 2 hours.

I really don't know what's causing the BSOD because they appear so randomly

Hello Sevenforums

Just got my system ack up and running, and now i have run into a bit of an issue, preventing me from validating my windows and doing most things.

I made a total restart, and have only stock windows 7 HoPr installed. When i tried to install a missing screen driver, i noticed that i was unable to go to the internet. I apparently have missing Ethernet and network controller drivers. Obviously, one would normally hit the update driver button, but since i do not have any means of getting the computer connected to the internet. i cannot.

So put it simple: I need to know how and where to download the missing drivers. And if there are any specific procedures, i will need some kind of tutoring, as i am kinda new to most of these things.

Additional info: It is a Desktop pc. The green flashing light where the cable goes is not flashy, at all. its solid green.

Answer:Freshly installed win 7 Missing drivers. (not sure if correct tab)

Go to the Support Downloads webpage for your model to download the ethernet or LAN driver to stick or CD, install as Admin on the PC.

Then go directly to Windows Updates to do all of your Important and Optional Updates which should deliver any newer drivers.

If any drivers are missing after all Updates are done, import them also from the Support Downloads webpage for the PC or Device model.

All of this is in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Hi all,

I really don't know what's going on..
I had vista installed for a while...then got these popups appearing and what looked to be an antivirus tool started to scan (i'm sure its some fake thing).
windows froze, couldnt get to the toolbar etc.
I got sick of it, formatted and installed XP again.

AS soon as I got the drivers installed etc. wireless connected, hadn't really downloaded anything too much (msn messenger...drivers from legit sites...that sort of thing). It pops up again.
I try to run lavasoft ad aware, again task bar goes missing all this stuff.

I format again, this time not downloading anything. Ad-Aware picked up a few things, i got rid of them (can't remember what). now it's coming back again after i've just browed to one or two pages (hotmail, and this page). Ran ad-aware again, something from

From 'general objects'

'virtualmonde' of category 'malware' is coming up.
Its all in the registry key,
Root: HKLM Path: software\microsoft\aoprndtws
another one..
Root: HKU Path: S-1-5-21-(bunch of numbers)

Then in 'privacy objects'
There are many 'tracking cookies' from internet explorer , c:\documents and settings path\index.dat etc.

Also an MRU object, with MRU registry key.

What is going on?! I can't beleive it's happening after a format...

Ive got another pc running the same copy of XP fine. Same wireless network etc.

I'm not going to to... Read more

Answer:Popups 'antivirus 2008' Etc. Freshly Formatted

You can get assistance in cleaning the system up in the Am I Infected forum located here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/103/am-i-infected-what-do-i-do/Or, you can do this:1) format your hard drive with a "low level"/initialization tool usually available for free from your hard drive manufacturer's website.2) Reinstall Windows using a known legitimate copy of the Windows installation CD3) Reinstall any applications/drivers from sources that are known to be good - and then scan them with updated antivirus software on an operating PC before installing them on your system.4) When you download anything from the internet, DO NOT let it Run or Open - ALWAYS choose Save. Then scan it with an updated antivirus program BEFORE opening it.

I have just completed a burning operation using Nero 6 which apparently finished with success. The problem is that my laptop's DVD player cannot read the burned files but when I try the DVD player on another computer, the files are there and can be read.

My DVD player is working in that I can watch films but for some reason, not the burned files that it made itself.

Can anyone tell me what is going on?

Hi

Last day I just installed Windows 7 Ultimate on my laptop.

Model: PCG-6WFP
VGN-SZ75GN

The problem is the laptop has nVidia graphic card in it but after I install Windows 7 have detected it as Intell graphic card. How can I fix this?

I think it has GeForce 8400 GS

I also tried http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_winvista_win7_186.81_whql.html (it does not have "M", I dont sure if it has to be "M")

It failed to install because the installer already detected it as Intel graphic card.

Please help.
Another problem is I can't find the driver for additional function of the laptop's keayboard. The Fn-Volume, Fn-Brightness..all that.
What the name of the driver for keyboard function button?

Thanks for read my problem, please leave message if you have any suggestion.

In a nutshell, I had a PC with a Windows 7 install for the last two years that had a motherboard go bad. I ended up buying a Tigerdirect combo (hardware specifics below) and just decided to reuse the case with my original install drive. After taking some time to retune itself to new drivers, the computer kept freezing at random times. In some other forums on this site, I thought it driver related (even though I had updated everything including new MB bios). To make things easier, I installed a new 80GB SSD drive and put in a fresh install of Windows 7. Have updated everything to the nines and avoided adding any additional software until I had data and stuff organized from my previous install. However, the randome gremlin seems to have come back at random times.

I've tried setting memory frequency from auto to the speed in the BIOS, but found this thread and have attached the BSOD zip file for some help. Any thoughts on what is the issue? It may be a hardware problem, but I have run memtest on the memory and just can't seem to find the culprit.

Specs:
MB = MSI H61M-P23
Processor = Intel Core i3-2100
Memory = Patriot 4GB DDR3
Windows 7 Professional 64bit

Thanks

Answer:Random crashes on freshly installed Windows 7

As an exmple, If I'm inoutlook and open a new messge, it it opens in small window, which I know I can correct, but as soom as the mouse pointer moves from task bar going towards new window the wndow instantly minimizes so as no work can be done on that window. If I reopen the window the windcow appears but as soon as the mouse leaves the taskbart the window disappears to the tray again. If I open calender and want to set a time for a meeting, as soon as I move the mouse from the calender area to the new window it immediately minimizes. When I brinkg it up again from the taskbar it shows on the screen until I move the mouse towards it and it instantly minimizes to the tray again. If I open the window and hold the mouse down until I'm on the new window it will allow me to work. If mouse pointer strays from small window it will immediatley minimize to tray.
Bought new mouse yesterday and no change.

If you have an item in the task bar and move over it, it pops up as preview only. you have to click on the item in the task bar in order for it to be fully displayed. Your using windows 7 correct?
