Reasonable bite rate convert CD to MP3 files?

Question: Reasonable bite rate convert CD to MP3 files?

What is a reasonable bite rate (i.e. keep as much quality as can be) to convert CD to MP3. My ears are not very musical.

Preferred Solution: Reasonable bite rate convert CD to MP3 files?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Reasonable bite rate convert CD to MP3 files?

128kbps at 44kHz is the norm and sounds good enough to my ears.

Pulling my hair out here...

I just got a new monitor, and while installing that accidentally uninstalled the network card. Whoops. Talked to tech support and they said I had to do a reinstall of Windows to get it back, pretty much. So I did, checking "keep files". All went well, until I tried to get into my files. I used to share this computer with others so all of my files under "My Documents" were unshareable under the old system - I'm assuming that's why, when I tried to get to *my* user data, it kept telling me no. After some searching, I found a webpage telling me to reboot in safe mode, go into the folder properties, and reset the owner of those files to my new profile. I did, and everything was restored - except that the files in My Pictures and My Music are all still unaccessible. I can get to them, I can view them, the properties show that they have sizes which seem reasonable for full, normal files - but when I open any of my photos I get nothing - in the Windows Picture and Fax viewer, for instance, I get "no preview available". I've tried renaming the files, moving them, copying them, e-mailing them - nothing. The music files are the same - look normal, but when I try and play them they open up as a 0 second music file. Name and info is available, but no music.

In short: any help vastly appreciated. This is the second time in two years I've lost my vacation photos, last year my camera got stolen Maybe I need to ... Read more

Answer:files present, have a reasonable size, do not open

As an aside, save all your pictures to CD or some other source, and then you can access them with almost any viewer...

Don't know where to put this, so I"ll put it under software.

I have an external drive where I've archived my CD collection at 320 kps to maintain the sound quality. I want to reduce the bit rate to something like 64 or 128 kps in order to put them on my MP3 player, since it's only 1 GB in size (it's a flash drive) and I can't afford 12+ MB size songs. The only way that I can think of converting them to a smaller size is to burn a CD, then turn around and rip it at the lower bit rate back to my drive.

Can anyone tell me an easier way to compress them without having to burn a CD?

How do you change the star rating?

Answer:How to 'rate' media files?

If you right click the file, select Properties, Details tab, You can click on the star ratings. You can also click on the stars in the information panel at the bottom of the explorer window.
Or you could use the rating system in Windows Media Player, same sort of thing.

Hello. Every time I download a file, can it be direct from a site, or from torrent, when I copy or movie to another place ( another HD, same HD, External USB 3.0 drive etc ... ) , the transfer velocity is very low (10-15 MB/S ). Making some tests, I discovered that after the first time I copied the file, if I copy it back to the same location or another , the velocity comes back to normal ( 90 -130 MB/S ) most of the times. I am on Windows 7 SP1 , all drivers installed and Windows update up to date. My antivirus is MSE , but i tried with it disabled, no success. Sorry for the bad english and thank you for any help you can give me.

Question: SP2...bite me M$

Ok just installed SP2 off the CD...nothing much different except for the security center. Because its wailing right now that i have the MICROSOFT firewall turned off and my zonealarm on, I have some doubts about SP2 (and some questions). First, it seems I can't D/L shit AT ALL no matter what browser I'm using. I have autodownload in IE enabled so i can't see any obvious problems. Second, it seems that the security center is dumber than a pile of bricks. It's upset that i don't have autoupdate on (on 56k, so i've got "notify b4 D/L...go figure) and its ranting that although Norton antivirus is on, there's problems w/ it (none I can see). seriously, this is irking the hell out of me...

Answer:SP2...bite me M$

Go into Security Center in your control panel and disable automatic notification regarding your firewall. Internet Explorer settings of all kinds are also found in the control panel under Internet Options.

When you say "download shit", please elaborate. HTTP? P2P? If you cannot DL from any browser, then it is more than likely ZoneAlarm. Make sure you are running the latest version, and that it is configured to allow inbound HTTP.

We understand that SP2 tightens some settings up. We also understand that this may annoy more experienced users. But those default settings are there for a very good reason, and if you can handle your own security, then you are more than capable of turning default safeguards and reminders off.

Hello! I'm looking for a program that converts files from Corel Draw (.cdr) to Illustrator (.AI), I know that I can do that using Corel but I don't want to install a full program for that. I've been looking all over the internet for such program but no luck so far . Does anyone one know of a software that can do this type of conversion? Thank you very much.

Vane

Answer:Convert Corel files to Illustrator files

No, you can't do that. As these are vector graphics programs, any software dealing with either format needs to know all the maths involved in constructing things in either program, to convert it needs to know both. If you've got a tool which converts between these two formats you've essentially got another vector editing program with all the capabilities of both programs. There's no such thing.

You can use Corel to write (older) AI-files or Illustrator to read (older) CDR-files, and vice versa, but that's about it.

Acrobat Elements 6.0 came installed on my Dell Dim 3000 in 12/04. I have no installation disk for it. It worked fine for some months. Now when I try to convert a Word file (using Word 97), I get a message with blue title bar ? title bar says ?Microsoft Virtual Basic?, message says ?Ambiguous name detected: TmpDDE? I click on help and it says ..?Can?t find file VBA\VEENLR3.HLP?

It's possible that this problem started occuring after I upgraded to Acrobat Reader 7.0.

What should I do about this?

Also, the file that I am hoping to convert is 486 megabytes. I?m hoping the size won?t be a problem. Will it?

I receive .txt documents as compressed zip files in my go-daddy web e-mail. When I unzip the file and click on the document icon, the icon has been changed to a Word icon. When I open the document, it has been converted to a Word document.

I then have to 'select all', copy and paste to notepad and save it as a text document before I can use it.

What could possibly be causing a zipped text file to open as a word document?

Mp3utility and Encspot will give you that info on mp3 files.

I am not sure if Encspot will work with other file formats and I assume mp3utility will not.

Hiya and welcome to Tech Support Guy

Sounds annoying, may only be good for those that are addicted to online shooter games (like me )

Anyway, lets get on with removing this problem

Download Security Check from here.
Save it to your Desktop.
Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Hello and welcome to TSF.

Sorry for the delay in response. If you're receiving help elsewhere, please let us know. Otherwise, we will begin with ComboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.
When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

Hi, I'm in networking and RF communications.

I've wrestled with my own bleeping computer problems. Usually I can catch viruses in the act, especially the fake virus protection programs, by bringing up windows task manager immediately after bootup before the virus gets a chance to load then tracking down the suspicious processes. Sometimes the legit virus checkers will flag it but not clean it, even though it says it has. After that, in safe mode, search and destroy through the system until you kill it.

But that seems like old school. With rootkits hiding in legit processes that block anti-virus programs, ugh...the bad guys have upped the game.

Do anti-virus programs suck, or are they so good that you only notice them when they fail?

Answer:Greetings! Does anti-virus software just bite?

The latter. So good you only notice them when they fail. Avast! is a great tool, usually even gets the rootkits.

Hi,

I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction to learn how to make sound bites.

I have music on my system that is mp3 and i want to use it for my pc sound scheme. You know, so when I turn on my system I hear that music piece.

I have a notebook and I tried using sound recorder but I am not sure what I am doing.

I can hear it play but when i try to add it to my sounds, an error comes up it may not be a valid sound file.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you.

Hallo all,

I have a question regarding my usual virusscanner (KPN Veilig)
During a scan of my c:\drive this virusscanner comes across a virus. It signals it's there, but it isn't able to actually delete the virus.
The virus found is:
"
C:\Users\DT_HP_BEHEERDER\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Low\Content.IE5\KYMC74OC\video.hd_23508[1].zip\video.hd_23508.exe
"

I have manually deleted this file, but am in doubt if this is sufficient.

I received a tip that the programm Malwarebytes may be a good programm to get rid of this virus.

Can I use 2 of these programms simultanuously?

Thanks in advance
Hein

Answer:Do virusscanners bite each other (KPN Veilig and malwarebytes)

Yes you can run MalwareBytes safely alongside any AV suite. It's probably best practice to in all honesty.

I cancelled a program called moviepass.tv after a 3-day trial period and $1.95. However, they not only didn't acknowledge my cancellation, they send me regular pop-ups, claiming I failed to cancel (untrue) and telling me I must pay a $29.95 cancellation fee! Even when I minimize their anoying pop-ups, I get a continuous, annoying sound track, which I can only mute by muting everything. I tried deleting their programs using Search, but coudn't delete every one.Any suggestions?

So if my router is reporting my max line rate is 82 mbit/s but the actual rate getting to the router is 55 mbit/s then what does this suggest ?

An Open Reach engineer did visit to check everything was where it should be both at my home and at the street cabinet. Resulting in moving the router next to the socket where the line comes in to the house, initially the speed was getting around 65mbit/s after he had organised things better.

He did say though the connection may go slower or faster over 10 days, its been a month now.

My ISP is Sky and I am subscribed to Fibre Pro (the best they offer) - their estimate to my house was 70mbit/s.

Since then the highest rate I've seen is 59mbit down and 19mbit up.

So since I've subscribed to the highest speeds Sky will offer me I doubt I'm getting capped.

The internet from outside has been cutting off each sometime around 9pm, maybe theres a bad line somewhere between my house and the cabinet ?

What do you guys think ? What are some possible ideas what's going on ?

Thanks,
Danny

Answer:Router reports much higher max rate than data rate

Shared line problems. It's pretty rare for you to actually get the speed advertised. There's a lot that goes into an internet connection, like the link speed for the devices. Applications that monitor, or check traffic can of course slow it down. But the most common cause is a shared line. For example:

You and 12 of your neighbors order the 100mbit service. Your ISP uses a 1Gbit line for all of you. You can get 100Mbits, as long as 2 of your neighbors aren't using it at all, even if the others are using up all of their speed. But if all 12 are on at the same time, it balances, and some people get a drop in speed.

It's all pretty standard practice with ISPs. As far as the dropoff at 9PM, that's usually caused by a gateway/modem reset. That's when they renew their IP lease. Some even do a full power cycle as well. Check your modem/gatway logs at that time to see if it shows any information about reconnecting (usually the easiest way to tell is the time is incredibly wrong until it gets the correct time from the ISP)

Maybe it's different in the UK for the shared line. Maybe there's not a questionable cloud of "Up to 100MBits!!!***" there with some bullet points saying you won't always get it. But almost every time here, that's the case.

Hey guys, I have a game called Cossacks : Back to War, and to play it my mouse's refresh rate is too high (1000hz or 1.0ms). I was wondering if there was an easy way to lower that to something way lower, just so I can play the game, then easily put it back up to 1000hz.

Thanks!

Answer:Lower Mouse Refresh Rate (USB Polling Rate) ?

Hi

What Windows version are you using?

Asking as if Windows XP you can see if the option is here Control Panel > Mouse > Hardware tab > Select PS/2 Compatible Mouse > Properties-button > Advanced Settings tab > Sample Rate and change the rate.

also knowing yoru Windows version will help if their is a registry hack or key that can be adjusted to allow you to change the refresh rate, this one I dont know off hand but likely in the registry is a key to control a USB mouses refresh rate, just need to search for this one.

What type of mouse are you using? make and model? (as this mouse may have downloadable software to help with options)

Apps like this can help PS/2 mice HERE

Answer:convert pdf files to jpeg files

Interesting question, it's normally asked in reverse - how to convert jpeg to pdf, which may need some additional software. The point is that jpeg are pictures so you cannot do the process in a batch mode, it has to be done as individual pages so it may be long-winded but it's very simple. As you are using Vista you have an built-in free tool called 'Snipping Tool', available in Programs/accessories. open the pdf page you want then start 'snipping' - capture the page and you will be automatically prompted to save it as a pdf file. I want to be able to import a DEM file from a video I recorded while playing Half-life 2 Deathmatch with the record console command, to Windows Movie Maker. But ,with DEM files not being a compatible format with many video programs , including movie maker and windows media player ,I can't. I've saw a lot of video converters that are compatible with many formats while searching the web , but none of them mentioned being able to convert DEM files to WMV files ,or any other type of file that would be compatible with Windows Movie Maker. If anyone has some good info on a good video converter that can convert DEM files to WMV files , that would be great! I don't get why windows xp comes with an audio converter but not a video converter ,but anyway. 1) When I visit certain websites, I see strange charachters. Usually an "A" with a carrot over it. (See photo at bottom)

It wasn't until I started having computer problems that I began to search for logs and found it. It was one of the very first things I downloaded when I reformatted my computer, so if it contained an infection, almost everything on my computer was downloaded after this corrupt download.

so my old desktop just doesnt turn on anymore. The whole thing is like dead
the light will light up green on the back when the power is plugged in so i know its getting power, but it wont turn on

anyone have any ideas on what this could be?

thanks

Answer:my desktop bite the dust a while ago and im trying to figure out what happened

If it's not the power supply then it's probably the motherboard. But it could be a faulty power switch or a bad component shorting the system out. Try removing any cards that aren't needed (one at a time), like a modem or sound card, and see if it starts. Then try unplugging the drives (one at a time) and see if it will start. Does it have more than one stick of memory? Try starting it with one stick, if that doesn't work try the other stick. If none of this works try unplugging every drive, all the cards and the memory. The computer won't start but it should beep. If it doesn't beep then it is either the motherboard or the power supply.

Hello, all!

I get a strange application that runs every now and then, apropos of nothing I'm doing. This application places a small blue icon in my system tray with the yellow letters FFa, plays perhaps a second or two of a woman singing (like nothing I have in iTunes), and then the icon disappears.

I have an image of the icon, captured via PrintScreen.

FFa appears randomly; on this past Tuesday it must have played two dozen times, sometimes within thirty seconds of the last time, sometimes a couple of hours after the last time. It hasn't played since.

I've looked at my start-ups, and saw some suspicious items, but before I started poking around, I thought I would come to the professionals for help.

Thank you in advance for your kind assistance.

I require a couple of short videos found ONLY on a site called "Nothingtoxic.com"to be converted from whatever format they are in to WMV so I can burn them to CD for presentations. I attempted to add an "flv" and "wmv" to their URL with no success.I've attempted to copy both the URL and the embed codes for these videos in an attempt to convert them and either received the "file has no extension" or "URL not valid".Is there anyway or any site that I could use to convert these files, or are some files simply not convertible? Thanks

As for downloading the movies from a site, you should try using software like VDownloader (http://download.cnet.com/VDownloader/3000-2071_4-10888393.html?tag=mncol)  OR if you happen to use mozzila firefox as your browser, you could try an addon called video downloader (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3590).Also if you'd like to try out an easy cd burning programming, you could google Image burn.  Good luck

Downloaded several films in AVI format, before burning onto disc want to convert to dvd type file, so I can then burn onto disc and watch on my dvd player.

Tried using Nero, Easy MPEG/avi/divx/wmv/rm to DVD & any video converter programmes with all the same results, the programme will start to convert and will then crash.

THis has lead me to the conclusion that it isnt a software issue, but a hardware issue. I have reformatted my harddisk, however still have the same problem. This is where I get confused as I used to be able to convert files using Nero on this computer without a problem, however since I started getting the problem then reformatted my harddisk , you would think that I should be able to convert again, but alas no.

Any ideas as I am going mad with this one.

Hello,
My old computer came with an ATI video card and software. My DVDs are all have the VCR extension and won't play on my new computer.
Where can I find a "thingy" that will convert VCR to ATI? Failing that is there a player like Quicktime or Windows that will play movies in this format?
Thank you,
Bob

Answer:Convert ATI VCR files

I suspect that Virtualdub may do the conversion?
