Taskbar missing from users accounts

Question: Taskbar missing from users accounts

I am using XP home with 4 accounts one per familiy two for children with Norton parental control enabled. Ove the past couple of weeks the taskbar on the 3 other accounts (not mine) have been disappearing. They are not minimised etc and aside from deleting the account and rebuilding, I cannot restore it. Anyone have any bright ideas please??

Preferred Solution: Taskbar missing from users accounts

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hiii everybody,
this is my first ever post in my first forum . That's a disclaimer to ask you guys to forgive me for having very little gray matter :-( .
I have Windows XP HOME SP2 on Intel Celeron 667 MHz and 192MB RAM. I know it doesn't sound like much so I'm always trying to read forums and tweak my settings. But this time, it ended up worse.
I used a program called autoruns.exe to adjust my startup programs so it'll start faster. I'm not sure what I turned off but now
1. It takes longer to start up,
2. I don't see any accounts (not even admin) in Control Panel - User accounts
3. I can access a directory and open files but I can't cut or copy and paste them into another folder.
4. In services.msc, most of the programs under Local with automatic setting don't start and cannot be started. I can't even see the programs under extended.
5. I have a home network but I can't access any of my other computers.
those are a few of laundry list of challenges with my computer (with me ?)
I'm even ready to format and reinstall XP but I need to copy some files before I do that.
I'm sorry for this long post but can you guys help me?

Answer:locked out of all users accounts

Boot to safe mode maybe and see if you can access the administrator account. See what the status is of the user accounts.Might have to boot to a dvd and do a repair or restore point to a time before this change. Hang up and live.

Hi
I have two accounts on my laptop: Bryan as admin and James as my local account which I use for my daily workings.
All my work is save to a different partition on the hard drive.

I now notice that if I go to C:\users, I have my admin account but there are two other user accounts James and James.lenovo15.

Originally I found James and James-2 user accounts so I moved the James-2 folders and files to my work partition (just so I didn't lose the info before deleting it). When I signed in again, I could only sign in as a "guest" using the James-2 password.

I have now spent a coupe of days deleting the user account under the User Accounts setting. Then deleting the James account in the only place it appears (C:\Users); and creating a new Local User account in the user accounts (using Bryan admin). However, I find that in C drive I still have two James users - James and James.lenovo15.

I think that when I just deleted the James account in C:\Users it must have left some residual elements somewhere and it recreated itself and the new local account which I names simply James was forced to add to the name .Lenovo15 to prevent conflicts.

Although I doesn't affect the running of the computer, having both users takes up considerable space. James user 4.7 gbs while the new James.lenovo15 has 1.7 gb.

Has anyone any idea how to resolve the matter?

HI All

I have a question about installing a program in the administrator account and then using the program in the user account. The user is set as a power user and I am having some trouble getting the program to run properly. It runs fine when I am logged in as an administrator. Been doing some reading but not finding a solution to my problem. Would giving the user account admin rights, installing the program and changing the user back to power user make any difference?

Thanks, Reddoug

Answer:A question about users accounts.

when you install the program ,were you giving an option for it to be used by all users or just admin /you

did you google the problem ,some google results look promising .i only look at the second one .

Due to technical issues in the forums and to recover some very important Malware FAQs, the forums had to be restored to a point in time from Sunday morning Sept 15th. Anything posted from that time on has been lost and will need to be reposted. We are very sorry about this, but it was critical to not loose all the important procedures stored in the Malware FAQs Forum.

For additional info on what may have been impacted, see the following thread in the Lounge: Missing Posts, Missing Messages, Missing Accounts

You can post your gripes and questions in this current thread or in the one in the Lounge. While the one in the Lounge is a sticky thread, it is open for posting questions and comments. (Note:No one can post in this thread in the Malware Forum!)

Answer:Missing Posts, Missing Messages, Missing Accounts

Additional note:

For anyone who posted anything yesterday, you may need to repost. You will have to check your threads to see what may be missing. Also anything we posted yesterday is gone too. We are in the process of going thru all threads that appear to be unanswered and working up procedures as necessary to answer the threads. In some cases, you may have already seen our posts or even received and email about them and you may have even added another reply. Since all of this communication from yesterday is lost (and we cannot recall everything we did yesterday), we just have to start at the oldest unanswered threads and work our way back to the current time.

Hey all, my girlfriend is running Win 7 Home... she has always had the default Windows speaker "volume" icon down on her task bar by her clock. She uses it all the time to switch between her speakers and her headset, where she right clicks on the icon and selects "playback devices" and then changes between her soundcard/speakers and her usb headset.

Anyway, it disappeared last night.

Now open Taskbar, click on the "customize" link, get the window to select which icons appear... on the speaker "volume" icon under behaviors, it is set to "show icon and notifications"...

HOWEVER.

Then at the bottom click the link for "turn system icons on or off" and on that window, the icon is greyed out and set to OFF and it can not be changed to ON.

She's been bugging the heck out of me ever since to fix it.

We have no idea what changed it, or how it got changed.... we just know its been there and she's used it, for the past two years, and now its suddenly not there.

Any suggestions?

Accidentally, I typed in my Hotmail account details into my dad's user for XP, now everytime he looks at the User Menu, he's got a notice reminding him that MY 28 messages are stil unread.

Also, he has someone just added his btinternet.com email to this list, and now when he trys to access these emails through the web browser, they appear to be missing from his bt.yahoo.com account. He CAN however, find these emails in Outlook.

So, help deletling my Hotmail account association from my dad's XP account, and to somehow get his messages back online...

Pretty please?

Many thanks.

Today I tried to add an account to my Windows 10 computer (Version 1607 Build 14393.321). Not something I do very often so I Googled it. When I select Settings - Accounts, I do not see the option for "Family and other users" like the screen image below. This image is not from my machine - it's from a site that shows how to add an account.

What I see is shown in the screen shown below. If I click on the big + box for "Add someone else to this PC:, I do not get a screen that says "Add a child or an adult?" and then "Lets create an account".

When I click on "Other People" and then the PLUS box for "Add someone else to this PC" it takes me to the inset box in the 2nd screenshot below. From there, I can select Users, then from the Action option, New User, then fill in the boxes. I have no idea why what happens on my PC is totally different than the several web sites I found that take you through this process. Any ideas are appreciated.

Answer:Family & Other Users does not appear in Settings - Accounts

The instructions and the screenshot on the other site you mention describe how it's done in Windows 10 Home and Pro. You are using Windows 10 Enterprise by the looks of it.

On Windows 10 Enterprise edition:
Select the Start button, then select Settings > Accounts > Other people > Add someone else to this PC.

Hey
I was hoping someone can answer me with this problem I am having.
I have 5 users accounts in one network domain. I have two different location, 2 different pc. The two PC has two different email address that receive different information. I want to have one user go to the first PC at the first location and receive that location's email, I want to have outlook be configured to receive just that location's emails. The next day he will be schedule to go to the second location and when he signs in to windows I want the outlook to be configured already and have it set up to receive the second location's emails.

Is there like a log on script I have to create? or is there like something I can do in Active Directory or any other solution to make this possible or if it is possible?

Answer:question about users accounts in ADUC

just set up user accounts for those two locations. account1 set up with the email address for site1, account2 set up with the email address for site2. then give the account info to the users involved. think that would work out for you?

I am preparing an old laptop for a new employee. When I log in as administrator I see 4 users in the control panel. I can log in as a fifth user that isn't listed whose username matches the computer name. When I go to C/Users/ I see folders for the fifth user that I can log in as and a sixth that also isn't listed in the control panel. Also, in C/Users/ I don't see every user that is listed in the control panel.

I need to remove all users except administrator and the new employee as well as clean up the computer of all old, unused files and programs. How can I trim down the users to just the two that are needed, including the ones that aren't listed?

Test if this is a local rights issue by temporarily granting your wife's account administrator rights, then testing again. If it works fine on the first test, then remove the rights and see if it happens again.

Let us know how you get on.

There are other threads on this but none have provided a resolution to my problem. Running the users check indicates the administrator account exists. However, I cannot select any users except my standard windows user on boot-up, nor can I switch users from the start center, as there are no other users to select at the top right of the start center - i.e., the pix and user name do not contain other user names. The power button on settings doesn't either. When checking the task manager, there is only my own windows user name listed, so no other user to switch to. I installed various reg, bat and vbs files available for downloading on this web site without success.

I hope that there is a setting that has changed - but looking at secpol and gpedit nothing jumps out at me.

Nothing seems to correct the problem. Anyone?

Answer:Cannot log-in to other accounts at boot-up or switch users

Hello Dugly, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Please open User Accounts in the Control Panel (icons view), click on the Manage another account link, then post back with a screenshot of what it shows. Be sure to blank out any email addresses that may be in it.

When checking folder properties/security tab I noticed that there are 2 unknown user accounts in the control panel. These were probably created when I tried to take possession of a folder (Skype) that I was having trouble deleting. I changed permissions for the particular folder, at one point adding an account with administrator privileges. Want to delete these accounts, but am concerned that I might have log on issues. Would appreciate if you could point me in the right direction.

edit: nup, thought about it a moment, wouldn't work/make any difference.

Can't see you'd have log on issues with your current account if it is an admin though. Do you have backups... is always a good idea, though probably irrelevant in this situation.

only work around we have found is to remove the folders and the registry entries. Anyone else seen or know how to fix this?

In accordance with regulatory instructions, PayPal is about to change their withdrawal functionality in India starting on August 1, 2010. At present you can request for either an electronic or cheque withdrawal of funds from your PayPal account if you are an India user.

From July 29, 2010 onwards, you will only be able to request for a cheque withdrawal of funds from your PayPal account.

In a mail to me they said, “While we are working hard to restore the electronic withdrawal service, in the meantime, we are bringing this matter to your attention so that you can plan your future withdrawal activities accordingly.”
To request for a cheque withdrawal:
1. Log into your PayPal account, click on ‘Withdraw’.
2. Click on the ‘Request a cheque from PayPal’ link.
3. Enter the withdrawal amount and select your mailing address, then click ‘Continue’.
4. Click ‘Submit’ to confirm your request. In order to help you with this change and until further notice, Paypal will refund the $5 USD cheque withdrawal fee to you for cheque withdrawals made on July 29, 2010 onwards.

I went to Administrator Documents, then I Right clicked on a folder, then I clicked on Share With>specific people> I click on the user account and then I get a box saying my folder was succcessfully shared, and now I need to email a link to the specific user account.

I do all this and then switch user. I go to the users email and try to click on the link and it wont click. I try to copy and paste into the users documents, but it will not copy and paste.

I go to the user's Documents and try to see if there is a link there....but nothing is there.

I deleted one of the user accounts, and they both disappears, so now I'm left with just the built in Admin account, and I can't add another account. When I click on Add Account, it just buffers and times out. I'm going to try the solution on another thread.

Hi there

seem to have found a SHOWSTOPPER on build 10158 -- If I try and add an account (or a user) I get a quick flash on the screen and then it disappears and I'm still in the settings menu.

The PC has always had just a LOCAL account.

There's obviously something wrong if I can't add users .

I think that as it's a VM I'll ditch it and go back to build 10130 on a REAL machine and try the update again. Then I'll create a NEW VM hopefully with build 10159.

Cheers

Yo guys I Have two accounts on my pc My main one wich is a administer account and I also have a guest account for my little sisters to use. One thing tough is I want them to see basicly only A new install of windows and just paint and stuff. I dont want them to be able to get to my anime or any of my games. Right now the gues account is practially the same as mine just limited stuff you can do. Thanks

Answer:How to Not allow Guest users to see programs and files on other (admisistor) accounts

I have 8x users and I successfully prevent some of them to see the same stuff as the main user/admin can, and did it roughly as follows:

Chose the directory you don't want them to see, then rightclick and chose properties or found your way to security. The trick is to add the name of the user in security to that directory, and then block it ....Deny Access...You can now further hide that directory, and the user will normally not see it, but if he view it, he will get message=Access Denied.

The Guest:I would treat the Guest in similar way.

Hello,

We are currently in the process of updating the Windows machines at the university that I work up to Windows 7 from XP. Recently we have been noticing issues when students log into the machines where it might randomly login to a TEMP profile over the Domain Profile.

Any ideas on why this might be?

Answer:Temp Profiles being created on Domain Users Accounts Win 7

I would check to see if you are using redirected folders on the server for the users in question. I have seen problems because of the different folder structure for the "?sers" folder in xp versus win 7.

Answer:Admin Accounts saving on other users on Vista Ultimate

You are going to need to save it to a shared folder and then log out and into the other account, then you can move or copy the file from the shared folder to the current users Documents folder.

By the way, you are NOT "The Administrator" but a member of the Admin group.

People:

My Win7 Pro 64-bit machine has garbled names for accounts, users, folders, and user profiles.

I have looked into my copy of "Windows 7 Inside and Out", by Bott, et al, but can't dope out what to do. I'd like to keep the log-on screen names and conform other names to them.

In this forum's tutorials I found #147545, "Windows 7: User Profile Folder - Change User Account Folder Name" but it describes a problem much less messier than mine, so I am asking for help.

Obviously, a man who can make such a hash of things needs a problem-specific, step-by-step fix. Please, someone?

Hi ALLI'm about to go OS for a month and have a house sitter coming to stay who will feed the fish and email me from my own computer with updates... I've set her up a password protected user account in XP and passworded my own acount, but I want to make all my own files and folders inaccesible to her... currently her account can view everything in my C and D drives, this no good! I'll need to spend a day burning and saving emails, photo's, chat conversations etc that I'm not keen for her to stumble across... is there an easier way to make all my folders unavailable in her account? I've had a good look around Windows XP with not much luck...thanks... !

Are you using Vista? If you are, just hide all the folders you don't want them to see, and then turn on User A/C Control.

With ATA, it is licensed per user. Is that the number of people in our company? or is that also the number of user accounts that were created to run services. For example, I have an user account in Active Directory that is used by our backup software to
access servers. Do I need to license that user account in ATA?

Hey,

My office has requested a simple IM service for interoffice communications, and i have installed openfire on a Centos 5.5 server and configured clients with pidgin, and it works great.

however i noticed several staff members adding accounts for MSN and AIM to their pidgin as well, which does not go over well with management.

while installing pidgin there were check boxes where i unselected all the IMs thinking it would prevent them from being added but i was wrong.

does anybody have any experience with this? perhaps something i can do to disable the adding of new accounts in pidgin, or another IM client that only supports xmpp/jabber

Its a great office resource and i would hate to have to scrap it because i cant prevent the staff from chatting with their friends at work.

thanks so much

the im client we use is called neos, for our jabber server

doesn't seem the creators of the app are around anymore... can't hit their domain.

However, Neos is no walled garden. It allows you to gather all your contact lists from different messaging networks (ICQ, MSN, Yahoo and Jabber) into a single window -but that depends exclusively on the plug-ins you install on the server, so everything remains under the Administrator's control. That means you can use it just as an internal communication tool and add support for other networks as it is needed.Click to expand...

Hi,  I manage several labs, whereby currently machines are in a workgroup, and users use a shared account to log in and and attach to a profile that is running tests.  We want to up the security, bring these lab machines into a domain structure, and
enforce each user to log in as themselves, but they need to all connect to the same desktop process which is running the test suite. Is this possible, and how do we go about it? We are using Windows 7 and Windows 10

Right, for a start off I don't think I explained myself very well in the title - so I will have another go here.

I have a table of users that I have created (imported from a spreadsheet) to the tune of about 25000 users.

I have a list of calls from the IT Service Desk - however they have not linked the users active directory account into the call, just the callers surname and forename(s).

I want to link all the users calls to the possible users in the database in a separate table.

The tables I have are laid out as follows:

Users Table:

Code:
UserID - Autonumber [b]PK[/b]
User Active Directory Name - text [i](Actually their email address)[/i]
IT Calls:

Code:
Callid - number [i]Unique[/i] [b]PK[/b]
FirstName - text
Surname - text
Call Details - text
Linking Table:

Code:
UniqueID - Autonumber
UserID - number [b]FK[/b]
Callid - number [b]FK[/b]
PossibleDuplicate - Yes/No
Basically I want to write some sort of script that will go through my IT Calls table and query the users, at the moment I am doing it by hand using the query:

Code:
Like "*" & [Enter Name] & "*"
And I am having to enter users names like this, joe*bloggs (as some users Active Directory accounts have middle initials and some don't.)

I want all the users that return more than one result to tick the Possible Duplicate box so I can go through and look at these manually later.

Does that make sense? Any ideas on how I would go about writing a script for this??... Read more

My name is Jake and I have recently enrolled in a college. Woohoo!

The college I attend uses a modified version of gmail that is monitored for security purposes. I noticed that when using Google Chrome I could click my name "Jake" in the top right corner next to the minimize button and select "Switch Person". I have set up two people; one person is "Jake", who uses my personal gmail account and has the settings I want, the bookmarks I want, and I can do whatever I please. My other person - more formally named "Jacob" - uses my university email and gmail account and has its own settings, and it is where I will conduct schoolwork. I decided to keep these people separate so that I would not get distracted by YouTube or anything fun when it's business time. I wanted two separate profiles so that I could keep whatever random stuff "hidden" from me.

I noticed that when I opened Chrome as "Jake", the account I've had for several years, the taskbar 'expands' the small shortcut I have of Chrome to display the page as pictured here: http://puu.sh/izSAw/c4397afd0b.png

However, when I opened Chrome as "Jacob" after having 'Switch(ed) Person(s)' in Chrome, a new window opened and displayed on the other side of my taskbar, indicating that it was not affiliated with the first shortcut: http://puu.sh/izSGa/c266dbe0cc.jpg (note that Jacob's New Tab appears on the far right, while this forum post I'm typing as Jake)... Hello, I have quite a doozer for anyone willing to help me out... I consider myself very tech savvy but I'm out of ideas.

I am getting the classic issue of not being able to use the start button and windows taskbar icons.

Symptom: Clicking start icon (or pressing windows key) does nothing. Taskbar windows icons (ex: time, wifi, battery, sound) does nothing. Right-clicking on these icons work.

While the right-clicking works, this is insanely annoying. I have to open every program using a search program (Ex: Everything), and logging off/shut down/etc requires using ctrl+alt+del to access the button. This is slowly driving me mad.

Preface (Yes there's a preface!): In original account A (administrator account), the search wasn't working. So I made a new account (Account B) after giving up and moved all my files there, including files in AppData. Stated symptoms did not exist then.
A day ago, suddenly, the symptoms started. I have no idea why. I searched many forums for possible solutions and tried most of the common ones:

1. sfc /scannow -> Nothing found
2. Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth -> Successfully run but didn't change anything
3. Powershell: Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"} -> Did not change anything

At this point I activated the original "Administrator" account that all win10 installs come with and tried that.... to be surprised St... Read more

Problem with user accounts:no taskbar, no explorer.exe (it isn't running), no desktop icons

Hi I'm having trouble when I load my side of the computer and the only way I can access programs is through Windows Task Manager. All that will load is the desktop background picture. I have looked up various solutions - it seems the explorer.exe process is missing or unable to be located when I try to run it. I have ran an AVG scan and two infection were found and supposedly healed. These were C:\Programfiles\MicrosoftCommon\wuauclt.exe (Win32\Heur)and C:\WINDOWS\System32\ntos (trojanhorsePakes_c.RZ). Have not yet ran any other scans and really need futher advice on what to do next! I have Spybot and Adaware but have not yet ran a scan since before the computer started playing up. I've also had to manually open Zonealarm so that I have a functioning firewall :/

I've only had this problem once before - I think it was yesterday and I panicked and just turned off the computer at the switch. Restarted, everything was fine and the toolbar &desktop was there. Today it was working fine until I turned it on about 2 hours ago

Hello,
I'm having a problem:

After installing a new programm and rebooting, the following probelm ocurred

1) the "all users" icons on the desktop and the "all users" programs on the startmenu are missing.

2) the desktop font has been changes to this awful typewriter style (I think it's courier or something). this font is now everywhere, in all the menue bars, it'sTHE standard font on the xp system.

3) i can't find the little icons, that have been on the logon screen, anymore

4) when i tried to change desktop>appearance, came an error message, that rundll32 is missing in system32
so i found one rundll32 file in the system folder which i moved to the system32 folder. i could use the desktop>appearance then but it didn't solve my initial problem.

5) i then got the tip to check the registry>group policies>nocommongroups settings, but it didn't help

does anybody have an idea????

However, any additional user (standard or administrator) is unable to unlock the taskbar. We have tried right clicking on the bar and clicking Taskbar Locked (which should unlock it) but when it brought up again, it is locked. We have tried right clicking , opening ?Properties? and then clicking unlock taskbar with the same result. Finally we have gone into Control Panel, opened Taskbar, clicked Unlock Taskbar. My laptop battery ran out and it must have shut itself down. When I restarted the following symptoms appeared.

Taskbar:
icons left of the clock disappeared
the taskbar changed from the standard task bar (green start button, blue bar) to a plain gray bar with a gray start button
if I right click on start > properties > taskbar tab > customize - the icons do not match up with the descriptions, for example the yahoo messenger icon has the description "wireless network connection"

My Computer:
If I click Start then right click mycomputer >properties I would expect to see a window with tabs "general, comp name, hardware.... etc" instead nothing appears

My network places > then View my network connections I would expect to see the network connections I have defined. its blank

I can't use my wireless connection because I can't see it to connect to. Other than that all programs seem to be working fine. I get to the internet using a hard LAN connection.

I don't even know where to start. I have read many of the posts regarding taskbar problems but none seem to fit. Any help greatly appreciated
System Information:
I just tried to open the system information icon in the control panel to get the info to put here but nothing happens when I double click it.
I am running XP SP3 I am current on updates, AVG Free (tried uninstalling just in case)

Answer:How do you prevent other users access to programmes running in taskbar?

Disable the guest account on your computer and log out of your account when you leave the computer. That will remove the desktop and anyone going to your computer will have to log in to gain access. With no account and the guest account disabled, only an authorized user with a proper password will be able to log in and see the desktop and programs.

Alright, I've recently upgraded my HDD because my old one was dying and running out of space. I copied the whole drive over using EASEUS Partition Master. Afterwards, I rebooted (on the old drive) and expanded the Windows partition (on the new drive). I did not bother to test the installation after this. Hello. My mother called with a problem and I don't really know where to start. I'm sure she has some kind of virus or malware, but I can't log in to try to remove it. She rebooted her computer today and when the login screen appeared, her account and the administrator account had disappeared. There is now an account for someone else and it is password protected!! I thought she could reboot in safe mode, but this also requires her to log in and she only gets this random person's account.

Has anyone seen something like this before? Is there a way to log in and delete this new account and restore her account as well as admin? Is there a way to perform a system restore without being logged in? I'm lost.

Thanks.

Answer:XP Pro user accounts missing - new one added

Use this to clear the password from that account and then log in. I would unplug any network connections as it appears she has been compromised.

Have upgraded windows 98 to 2000, however my Outlook Express account details did not get converted.
I want to copy all my Outlook Express account details from wherever the old 98 folder is to the 2000 location.
One thing I need to take into account is that I cannot remember one of the email accounts details (server, password, etc..) so I really want some way of copy EVERYTHING.

Thanks

Several weeks ago I noticed a system perfomance graph that covered several months, start to take a slow dive. The only milestones note were standard s/w updates, and an occassional IE lockup. Several days ago my user accounts have been blocked from logon, with a message that the user profile policy cannot be found. I can still access the system through the admin account. I ran Hijackthis and notice there are a lot services that seem to be missing files. The startup log file indicate a lot of missing register keys. I have been able to backup most of my userdata via the admin account. Do you have any suggestions or advise beyond start over? I'm not sure my sysstem restore points go back far enough to find a clear system.
Thanks,

DW

I reloaded a machine for a customer today, I did the same thing about 8 months ago. Th problem is when she turned on her computer the user accounts they would normally choose from were gone. No way to log in.

I am stumped as to why this would happen. She did have limeware on here machine, the best I can think of was something came from there. Any ideas?

I had one administator account & I guest account. Now, having created a second admin account both my user logins for admin have disapeared & I'm only left with a limited guest account! How can I find or use my admin logins ?

Answer:XP Pro admin user accounts gone missing - Help

You may be able to boot into safe mode and log in to the administrator account from there. It does not normally need a password. Safe mode can usually be activated by pressing F8 repeatedly during boot up at the black screen.

I added a networked MFP printer/scanner to a small workgroup running Win XP on 4 workstations. The way this MFP scans is to create a shared folder and give the folder permissions for the MFP to access the folder. One of the requirements for setting up the scan template on the MFP is the need for a username/password. This workstation is not password protected at logon so I added a new user..computer adminstrator.. and created a password. Usng this info I setup the MFP and tested the ability to scan into the folder. This worked just fine (as it has many, many times in the past). The customer used the workstation for the rest of the day, turned it off and came in this am to get some additional work done. Now, the PC is asking for a logon for the user I created, and all other accounts except guest are gone. Again, none of these accounts were passowrd protected. What can I do to fix this issue? Thanks is advance. Ed

My parents gave me their pc to sort out as they couldn't log on to windows. Tried everything to get it to log on but couldn't even get it to boot into safe mode.Had to boot from the win xp pro cd and ended up installing the os again. Now all seems to be ok but the original user accounts are missing from the log on screen, the only account is the administrator account which I was asked to set up during installation. There was no format of the hard drive and I have noticed that from the administrator account all of the original programs are not available from the start menu.I have looked in the program files folder and the missing programs are still there, also in the docs and settings folder still contains the missing user accounts folders and contents.Anyone got a clue what went wrong and how I can get the user accounts and program short cuts back to original settings please?

Answer:missing user accounts in winxp

If you start/control panel/user accounts/a new account you can set up accounts for you parents. I am a little puzzled about what you have actually done so far. When you installed the operating system again did you go for a repair or a new install? During a new install of XP you would have been given the opportunity to set up user accounts. If you manage to set up new user accounts then you can simply drag and drop the files and folders from where they are to the new files and folders. Why or what has gone wriong I have no idea but this should help you get back to normality. Other posters may offer you alternative guidance or comments which may help you further.

Hi,Hope you bright minds can help. No longer have the administrator account and my user account showing up on the welcome screen in safe mode. It just enters my user account rather than give me a choice of the administrator account or user account. A system restore didn't help. Also in normal mode with administrator account showing with my user name on welcome screen administrator account is asking for a password. None was ever set. Leaving it blank doesn't work. By the way my user name has administrator rights. Thanks in advance.Os windows xp sp2 home Frank Pepper: ?Professionals built the Titanic, amateurs the ark?

This picture shows how my name has been changed in User Accounts and in regedit, as displayed by running winver, but yet all my files are still found at C:\Users\Owner.
When I go to C:\Users, the Owner folder is locked and cannot be renamed even though my account type is administrator, as seen here.
How do I really change the name from Owner to a name of my choosing?

pop up keeps re-appearing.  Windows 10 pro.  It says: "user accounts...use the list below to grant or deny users permission"
How do I deactivate it?  It's not the one that notifies me if a program wants to make a change to the computer.

I have tried changing passwords, etc.

On Windows 7 that I am having here I have number of users using it and they have their account as well on it. Well that is not the issue there. Now I have seen that when the user tries to login to the account he can see a message saying that the user profile is not loaded correct manner. After that it just gets the user logged in an account. After seeing the login I have seen that Windows make the loggin for that user in with a temporary profile. Please let me know if there is anything with which you all can help me. I will be really glad to have any help in my case above.

Answer:Windows 7: User Accounts Profile missing

Well let me tell you that you will be able to get the user back but for that you will be required to see for changes in the Registry and then for sure you will be able to have the user profile working in your case and that too without any issues there. You will be required to login as ADMINISTRATOR and then you will be required to make the necessary amendments in the ProfileList. Open up the RUN Window by clicking the Start icon and then clicking on the Run option there. Hello all,

Today I was installing some programs I typically like to have on my computer that I have not had a chance to do so since I got this new laptop a few months ago.

Short story: I installed Anti-Hacker 13.0
http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/anti_hacker.html
http://www.host.890m.com/anti-hacker.html

It's an all-in-one tool. I was attempting to follow the instructions to uninstall it as I found nothing I would use personally.

It said to click "Standard Account" once. Well after 3 coffee's and a 5 hour (at coffee shop studying) I managed to click it twice.
Before I know it, it says it's saving data and needs to reboot. I thought maybe it was uninstalled and just needed to reboot, so I click yes.

Now the issue I have:
I have only 1 user account: Administrator
All my settings/Windows Settings/Personalized stuff is gone
Download Folder is empty
Chrome History/Settings/Bookmarks are gone
Boot Programs/Apps/Services are defaulted

Basically it's like a whole new user account except my Program Files are still the same/there.

No CLUE what this thing did. I read some things to see if I could get the user account back, not sure if I was using just a User Account or Admin Account as it came to me setup and I never made a personal profile.

Under Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\User Accounts\Manage Accounts
Only Administrator

Run > CMD > lusrmgr.msc
Nothing there - blank, no users. Says "This Snapin may not be used with ... Read more

Ok so my Mum called me up today. She had turn her computer on this morning after it working fine yesterday to find the login Window only showing the option for "Other user" and that was it.
Normally her account would be the only account on the screen and she would simply eneter her password and be done.
When she called I presumed she had just entered her password wrong too many times and the account had been locked or something.
Upon getting home I entered Windows 7 recovery mode to use the command line the enable the Administrator account so I could get logged in as typing her username manually into the "Other user" dialog along with the account password didn't work.
When prompted to enter a valid user to use the recover mode it was strange as her User was listed here but nowhere else. Entering her username and password here got me into the recovery mode options fine.
First I used net user to see if her user was listed which it was not. (Yet I had just used it to use the command line).
I then used this command to enable the Administrator user:

Code:
net user administrator /active:yes

and set a new password using:

Code:
net user administrator test

I then restarted the computer in safe mode and attempted to login as the Administrator user. Upon typing in the user information I was again greeted with a message saying the Administrator user was still disabled.

After a bit more research I gave up and used a System restore point to th... Read more

Answer:Missing/disabled user accounts after restart

I'm not expert but yes it could be a infection. Some infection try to stop admin. accounts so you can't download help or use some programs to clean the computer.
It never hurts to scan for infection with several programs.

I would also look in user account and see if their are strange account that haven't been there before.

I am in desperate need of help. My Windows Xp Home Edition Sp2 (up to
date) will not boot. I turn it on, and it comes up to the welcome
screen, the screen looks as if it is still loading, but i click on my
account (1 of 5 others) to login, and suddenly the other icons
disappear and the hour-glass appears as if loading, but it just stays
that way. I was able to logon prior to this and the characteristics
were similar, some of my desktop icons were missing and my norton
internet security came up with an error report saying something about
not being able to properly run along with my mouse driver and my free
ram xp pro came up with errors. I shrugged it off and went to look at
the event viewer, but before i could start it up the blue error screen
came up. I didn't copy down the entire code (figuring it would come up
again), but i was able to get the first series of numbers: 0x0000008E.
After that, I couldnt even log into windows. I was able to login under
safe mode (after pressing f8 at start up) but i was unable to run my
norton and the event view would not come up. I am in desperate need for
answers, because I am working on a project for work and the dead line
is July 8 and my team and I are nearly a week behind! Thanks for the
help in advanced, and I will try and either paypal the person who is
able to solve my problem (if i still have a job by then).

I am unable to load Windows XP- I get as far as the Welcome screen which should show 2 user accounts, but no accounts appear.
When I installed XP (on a brand new hard drive, nice clean install with SP2) 4 months ago, I did not specify a password for administrator. When I tried to boot from CD and go through the repair console, pressing <Enter> at the "Enter administrator password" gets me an error message and locked out after three times.

I would appreciate any suggestions

Thanks in advance

I setup a shared printer for a classroom here at school. The shared printer shows up for the account on which it was installed, but when another user logs in it is missing. Anybody know how to fix this?

I have shared many printers on our network and never had this problem before. The printers always showed up before for all users. This has me stumped.

Answer:Shared Printer missing on other user accounts

Nevermind, I fixed it. I just went and created a new local port with the UNC path to the printer.

OK, full story. I was meddling a bit with the security settings for my C: partition (where my Windows 7 resides) by right clicking the drive and selecting properties > security. The reason for doing so was because I thought someone had meddled with it first, so I was trying to get it back to the default settings by using the same settings as my other two partitions. It turns out the settings for Authenticated Users for C was different from both the other partitions, so I changed them to reflect the settings from the other two. Later on I found out nobody had tampered with the settings before me (but why then did the security settings for different partition differ? Can someone explain?), so I attempted to revert the settings by using system restore.

After the system restore, my main Admin account was available but the other accounts (there were 3 others) were missing. I tried system restoring back to a few days, didn't solve it. I ended up using system restore a few time (back and forth between a few restore points), before it suddenly turned up again. Why would this happen?

Also, the system restore did not change back my security settings for Authenticated Users. Do you think this will affect anything?

This is my current security settings: (Note the "special permissions" under "write" is unticked)
