Norton /Work Suite problem.

Question: Norton /Work Suite problem.

A friend of mine has not long bought a second hand system running Win98SE.Out of the blue he gets a long error message on start up that tells him Norton Antivirus has interfered with his attempted installation of Work Suite 2003.The error messagaes are C:\PROGRA"1\SYMANTEC\SYMEVNT.386 and C:\PROGRA"1\NORTON"1\NAVAP.VXD .I have tried the microsoft support site and it gives you the remedy to the problem but you need the Work Suite 2003 CD-ROM for it to work.Firstly he does not have the Work Suite 2003 CD-ROM , and also he doesn't have Norton AntiVirus installed. I had a look in the add/remove programs for any trace of Norton and it is there but it will not let you remove it, when you try it gives an invalid path message. Also it will not let him access the Internet , so what do we do ?PS To understand better what I amrefering to goto question 331086 on hhtp://support.microsoft.comAll help gratefully accepted as always.

Preferred Solution: Norton /Work Suite problem.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've never had a problem with Norton Suite until a couple of days ago when it prompted me to download the latest definitions (or whatever it was, I didn't pay as much attention as I should have), after downloading them and installing them, I cannot use my internet connection without shutting off my firewall. Anyone know what I have to do to have my security and internet access happily married again? Thanks ya'll.

Hi All,
I have Zone Alarm Pro as my firewall, and Norton 2003 as my Anti virus. I probably should update my anti virus but was thinking about purchasing the Zone Alarm Security Suite and then add a spyware program. The one thing I do have trouble dealing with, using Zone Alarm Pro is that I use a VPN to login to my employer's client systems (different IPs depending on the client's sites). I can't have Zone Alarm Pro up and running when I login. I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to firewalls and because I'm a contractor I do not receive much help from the employer so not sure if Norton Security Suite would be a little more user friendly when it comes to adding IPs that I login to.

Any opinions on ZA or Norton SS would be greatly appreciated, as well as any input with using VPN with firewalls.

Thanks in advance,

MB

Answer:Zone Alarm Security Suite or Norton Internet Security Suite

I woul keep Zone Alarm Pro. Was posted someplace thatwith Zone Alarm Security Suite so of the options of Zone Alarm Pro are not the same so that Zone Alarm Pro alone is better.

Here is a link. Bet it is something you need to setup up right.

I have NOD32 Eset Security Suite installed, and whenever I have the firewall enabled and try to use a web browser (any web browser), I get the page not found error. I have to right-click the icon on the taskbar and click "Do not filter network traffic", which of course disables the firewall.

Anyone have any ideas as to how I could fix this problem?

Need a new antivirus/security suite soon and see BB has the NAV 2009 for $20, or I could get the full NIS 2009 for $10 at a different site, but with $50 of rebates plus shipping.

Is the NIS 2009 worth it? I am very computer literate and know the difference between phising scams, website that you shouldn't download from, etc.

I hate nothing more than screwing around with rebates, but I will if the value is really there.

Anyone have experience with both of these?

Answer:Norton Antivirus 2009 or Norton Internet Security Suite 2009?

Neither is worth the $$$$$$$$. If you want to buy something go with AVG, NOD32, etc.

AVG also has a free version but whatever you do, don't buy Norton, others will agree

I am trying to delete all files relating to Norton Internet Suite. I did it by removing it through the Control Panel. However, I noticed that not every file was removed. When trying to remove "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\PIF\B8E1DD85-8582-4c61-B58F-2F227FCA9A08\Alerteng.dll" the following message pops up in a window: "Cannot delete AlertEng. I purchased a new computer a week ago. Since I am a Comcast subscriber I get Norton Suite for free. I've been running Norton for the last week.. Today I ran my weekly SuperantiSpyware scan and it detected 25 items. I have never had this amount detected before, it has always been one, two or none. Can anyone give me some thoughts on this?

Answer:NORTON SUITE IS IT ANY GOOD

That is surprising, as SAS never found anything on my computers since I started using Comodo Internet Security since it's first beta 2 years ago. I bought a new Windows7 machine 2 months ago so decided to download and run SAS, but nothing found after a full scan now.

Maybe you are keeping tracking cookies on your computer? If so you could prevent those if you are using Firefox, by setting it to delete cookies when it closes except for those you choose to allow.

If that is all SAS is finding I don't think you should blame Norton.

Finally moved to win7 but now my anti-virus doesn't work. Apparently comcast gives a freeby version of norton security suite. I never used that before and I wondered if there was anything wrong with it, and if it'd be enough protection for me and more importantly the downstairs computer, some people in this house will click on just about any shady link.

However, the latest version of Norton Norton Security Suite is available through Comcast, which is basically the 360 version. I just wondered if it's worth switching to Norton? My Xfinity (Comcast) internet includes free Norton Security Suite and I believe Win 10 includes something like it. Should I continue using Norton Security suite or do I remove it?

Answer:Do I still use Xfinity Norton Security suite?

That really depends on you, whenever you like Norton or not, but generally Norton is quite heavy, especially on laptop.
If I had to choose, I would get rid of Norton and use Win Defender instead. Then again, it would be waste not to use it.

Hello,Now that you have posted a topic here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/340187/security-suite-tried-logs-stuck-in-safe-mode/ you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a MRT Team member, nor should you ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show in the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. From this point on the MRT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the MRT Team members are EXTREMELY busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the MRT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. Hello, Friends! We have CA's Internet Security Suite on our desktop and laptop. We have had a nagging problem with our wireless printing. Simply put, my desktop works fine (WinXP Pro SP3) but my wife's laptop (Windows7) won't print wirelessly. We've determined that the CA suite is the culprit. And CA can't seem to get around it, they've tried. The CA Suite has been provided free thanks to our ISP, Time Warner Communications (RoadRunner). The CA suite sure does have a good antivirus and spamware capability, but it's a pain for Mom to have to hook up with a USB cable to print anything. Our printer is a Kodak 9250 all-in-one. Before that, we had a Lexmark AIO and it behaved the same. I thought that perhaps the wireless protocol that Kodak used might be newer or more robust than the 3-year-old Lexmark. No dice. So, we're going to bite the bullet and purchase a security suite that WILL work. I had Norton for years (before wireless printing) and wonder if anyone on the Forum has had any difficulty with wireless printing under Norton Internet Security?Hope that someone might have good information for us. Thanks for your help!Sandy GerliDurham NC

Hi, I had problems with my computer starting after a Norton update restarted when I chose not to restart. I uninstalled Norton with the Norton Removal Tool. It has the same problem of not wanting to completely reboot without restoring the computer to an earlier date. I tried to reinstall Norton and it said it can't install it because there was one running already yet i removed it. Is there some way to stop the one they say is running so I can reinstall Norton Security.

Hello
I was attempting to image Windows 10 as a backup. I went to the Backup and Restore app in Control Panel to create the image. Windows would not complete the image stating that "a lock on the EFI partition could not be done. I suspected that Norton Security Suite I installed was interfering with creation of the image.
So I uninstalled Norton. I then attempted to create and I was successful. My suspecting Norton was just a wild guess. I have been aware that Norton over the years was said by many to cause problems with Windows. Does anyone have any idea why Norton caused my problems?

Answer:Windows 10 and Norton Security Suite

1. I am sorry that your post has not been replied to before

2. IMHO and I have posted it many times on this site, good as Norton maybe as an anti virus, it is installed in many different system locations, possibly more than many other AV programs

3. Another aspect of many third party antivirus programs and again, in my opinion Norton is included in this, is there incompatibility with Windows 10.
The AV company work extremely hard to try and ensure that their product is compatible and indeed it is usually so when installed. It appears to me that what then happens is that Windows issue an update which involves system changes to data in an area WHERE the AV has also installed some control method.
This is when the incompatibility occurs.

4. Windows 10 has a unique file system and many third party applications can cause havoc. This aspect of 10 is not limited to AV programs. Third party disc defraggers can also cause problems. In fact they can actually result in greater fragmentation.

5. Here is a post I recently made and then are many more
https://forums.techguy.org/threads/...alling-norton-antivirus.1178941/#post-9299555

6. Finally if you bought Norton from their site as a download be aware that there has been strong criticism of their automatic renewal policy. If you provided card details UNLESS you opted OUT you agreed to automatic renewal and I believe that your credit/debit card will be debited at renewal time. YOU may wish to check

Decided to download a free trial of Norton 360, ver.3.0 much touted security suite as had had such bad luck recently with anti-malwares. This 'solution' would cost $80 if I decided to buy it, but I figured at least it would clean up my machine. So I'm on the page where you type in your personal information, including credit card nos., ect. I'm a good typist, and typed all in correctly. When I clicked on submit, got a message saying I'd done some entry(field) wrong. Redid it, got another message saying something wasn't filled in that I had filled in; redid that; got another message saying something else needed to be done or was in error when I had done it correctly. This incorrect message came up seven times before I decided that if Norton couldn't even get the page with my payment information correct, maybe they weren't my best choice. So I gave it up or I'd still be cycling around trying to enter my payment information. I saw alot of positive things about them on trusted net sites, but negatives too.

Answer:Funny story about Norton security suite

It really happened, domluc. Believe I have found some choices with much lighter footprint and still effective. Norton 360 was rated high by PC mag and it said it was light on resources and I was frustrated after the Avira thing and needed to get back on the net but not without protection, hence my decision based on fear and inexperience.
Thanks for the tips, will check out Comodo. Would like to run more than one security program, but have found, as its been said on this site, that they do fight with each other, and in my limited experience, even with xp.

What is a very good system suite to do it all, virus , spyware and utilities. In the utilities part I need something that will clean up hard drive, defrag, clean up registery. I here all kinds of horror stoires about Norton and McAfee and some on Kerpersky. Right now I using Norton trial that came with computer, 50 days left. I don't like it. Any suggestions on something that is very good and not a resource hog.

Answer:system suite...ie norton, mcafee, karpersky

I'd go for NOD 32 Antivirus or even better the entire security suite from ESET.

Personally I chose BIT DEFENDER INTERNET SECURITY for one year license, but I'll be buying the NOD32 suite pretty soon.

One alternative - light on system resources is the Avira Premium suite. Quite good too.

Hi guys,

Been having problems with my laptop running Vista Home premium svc pack2.

One day, a month ago, Norton was not updating properly. Upon the next boot-up windows would not start and I was forced to restart in safe mode with a system restore. This was successful but Norton Security Suite was still not updating properly.
Since then, on a few occasions, I have attempted to uninstall Norton without success thru the program uninstaler. Norton is unresponsive. I even got the Norton rep. to do a remote deletion of all registry files of Norton. But they all returned after the reboot of my PC because windows would not open and I had to start-up thru system restore.

Since then my yahoo email been hacked and spam sent to the contacts of my address book.

I know I got something but I don't know what.. Can anyone take a stab at what I might need to do?

Thanks,

AV-Comparatives Comparatives Reviews - AV-Comparatives

Test antivirus software for Windows 10 - October 2015 | AV-TEST

Norton Security Suite definitively offers more features than WD, in terms of protection.
Even when talking about detection, WD always scores as the worst AV from all known brands.
As far as I know, Norton is somewhat resources heavy, but if it runs fine on your laptop then go for it.

I have been using Avast for several years and it has generally been good for me. It has missed a few things which I have ultimately fixed through the support of this website, and it does slow my system down at times, but for the price I can't beat it.

Anyway, my internet provider has recently offered up Norton Security Suite for free as a benefit to its customers. My question is are there any benefits to switching? I would appreciate any feedback from anyone with experiences with the two, or just some honest opinions. Thanks

Norton was the product of 2009 for detection rates (av-comparatives tests etc..), it is light as avast and they claim they have advanced technologies. I believe you wouldn't go wrong if you choose norton.

Norton Internet Suite (Firewall Question)

Another question, this time regarding the firewall included with my new Norton Internet suite installation. How exactly does it work? In the past I used Zone Alarm FREE which I liked very much (but for some odd reason, a popup said that I could not continue with the Norton installation until Zone Alarm firewall was removed - bummer!) Anyway, while using the Zone Alarm firewall; it used to warn me any time a program or program installation file tried to access the internet and then it showed a pop-up which gave me the option as to whether or not to "allow" this. Thus far the included Norton firewall has been oddly missing in action; (apparently running silently in the background?) in that I have not received a single warning in 4-5 days of use, since I first installed it?

How exactly does this Norton firewall program get the attention of the user when a program .exe wants access the web? Does it "trust" certain programs or does it have to be "enabled" to work. Another question is: The Zone Alarm program kept a list (in the options section) of program installation .exe's as well as entirely installed programs which had previously asked for access to the internet. This was a particularly handy feature for me to utilize because I test freeware and shareware programs as a hobby and the list could be categorized alphabetically, by time of installation, by permissions granted and stored there. In the end, I was told that with the norton security suite update to 4.3; that for live update to run, that computer needs to be associated with a DMZ.Product Name: Norton Security SuiteVersion: 4.3.0.5Serial Number: 123Media SKU: 20999865Current SKU: 20999865Family SKU: 0000000End Point ID: {11FF74F0-9B11-11DF-B554-000E35613068}OEM Partner Name: 123Vendor Name: ComcastI explained to him that I had 3 computers, and only this one wasn't updating. He said "each" computer is unique, and some must be associated with a DMZ. So, I checked the other laptops, desktops, and sure enough they wouldn't complete a live update either. My question:- anyone experienced a problem running live updates on norton security suite?- is it typical to require a DMZ (open to the internet connection) for any purpose other than gaming or videoconferencing?dwEdit: Moved topic from XP to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

Answer:Norton Security Suite 4.3 requires a DMZ to update?

HelloI recently changed my internet connection from DSL to Cable internet. The DSL had its own security suite and now the cable one has one of its own so I uninstalled the DSL one and put in the cable one. The one for the cable internet is Norton Security Suite, so shortly after I installed it I noticed that every time I go on my browser (Firefox) it keeps popping up a Norton messages saying it has just blocked an attack on my computer. I would look at the details of the message and it would say the attack would be from a website that was a bunch of random numbers and letters that was different every message. I ignored it at first but then decided to check it out and I first ran the virus scan and it picked up 3 things which I had the program deal with but it didn't fix the pop ups and then my computer started running extremely slow. I have Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from some problems my sisters computer had in the past and I ran that and it found nothing. So I looked around on the internet and someone was suggesting to us the free scan at PandaSecurity.com. So I did that and it returned a few files that it said were torjan viruses. I couldn't just delete them cause it wouldn't let me. So I wrote them down and went into safe mode and then ran my normal virus scan to see if it could find them like that but it didn't. So I just searched out the files that panda had told me and deleted them while running safe mode. Thinking that would have got rid of it I tu... Read more

Your post does not make sense!!If you want to replace Norton with another Anti-virus then you need to use the Norton Removal Software.http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080710133834EN&ln=en_USThen download another anti-virus. I use Avast.

Hello, my name is Jay. I had some trouble lately with the Svchost.exe process. It was using excessive amounts of my CPU. I do not exactly know what stopped it from using all of my CPU, but it stopped. As an attempt to fix it, I stopped the proccess for automatic updates from starting when I boot my computer. I haven't used automatic updates in months. Yesterday I was trying to upgrade my Windows Media Play to version 11. It said there was an error and the reason for the error was Advpack.dll. I guess that has something to do with the TEMP folder. I went to my C: drive and created a folder called TEMP. After I did that, I was able to install the new software for Windows Media Player. After I used the automatic updates (It installed 70+ new things) I found out that when the process for my Norton Security Suite starts (ccSvcHst.exe) it makes my computer reboot. Apon booting, My screen flashes black then after about.. 10 seconds I get this message -

"Windows has recovered from a serious error"

^The above is a picture of the error report^

If anyone could help me I would really appreciate it. It's been driving me crazy.

Thank you , Jay

First of all, I'd like to thank Cheeseball81, Cookiegal, and Rollin' Rog for helping me with my malware problem. I've been thinking of uninstalling Norton suite from my PC and replacing it either the 90 day trial of Windows Live OneCare (another suite) or AVG free and the ZoneAlarm firewall. What are your suggestions? Oh, and I found another problem. The undeletable "xerox" folder containing another "nwwia" folder is back. Every, single time I boot it returns, even when I boot to safemode and ran Killbox on it! Any suggestions about that?

Hi there,

You guys have always been amazing in the past, and here I am again with problems. (Which is really weird as I have not really been using my laptop for ages - I've been using my tablet.) Anyway, I don't know when this occurred, and I know you need to know that. I'm sorry. I can tell you that at first I thought it was a system issue since I hadn't been online much, so I did a system restore back to 12/19/2013. It didn't fix the problem, and it was then that I realized it was highly likely a virus of some sort.

I'm attaching the logs as requested.

For the MalwareBytes program, please be advised that it would not let me update the program or definitions (even after following the alternate link shown in the instructions).

For the Hitman Pro program, please be advised that even though I was using the internet, the scan wouldn't begin because it said it was awaiting internet connection. So, I followed the scanning procedure given for people with no internet connection, even though I did have it. I can only assume the virus was blocking it in that manner.

I have IObit on my system as well, and it hasn't been able to update for a long time (again, I'm sorry for not knowing exactly how long), stating it was unable to connect to the server due to no internet connection. (But again, I was able to connect and utilize the internet.)

Essentially I am unable to use or update any anti-virus program. My compu... Read more

Answer:Norton Security Suite Errors, No updates to AV Programs

I am not seeing any signs of malware in those logs at all. I suggest that you post about this in the software forum.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.

Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.

After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

I can't believe I'm the only one in the world that this happening to.Comcast has just begun converting its customers out of McAfee and into Norton Security Suite.  I ran the conversion on 2 desktops, a laptop and a netbook.  The respective operating systems were:  XP Pro, Vista Small Business, and XP Home.  All 4 are experiencing the same problem.  The Norton installation has knocked out Windows Explorer functionality.  Trying to do simple file movements, or even simple deletes, stops and recycles Windows Explorer.  That Norton Security Suite is the culprit has been confirmed by uninstalling Norton Security Suite.  The problem goes away.  Re-install:  the problem returns.Does anyone have any experience with this type of thing, or have any suggestions on how Windows Explorer functionality can be retained in a system protected with Norton Security Suite?

Answer:Conversion to Norton Security Suite Causes Windows Explorer to Crash

Check Add/Remove programs. Is McAfee still listed? If so, remove it.

Hello, I'm new here. I just clean installed Windows 10 and am wondering what AV to use. I've used avast! free for the last 3 years (windows 7 and 8), but now that I'm on a new sparkly clean OS, I've decided to reevaluate and survey the field for cheap or preferably free options. Panda , Avast, Avira, BitDefender, etc.

It seems to me, from what I've read, the most balanced in terms of zero day and general protection (online or off) is Avast (talking about across the board protection, heuristics/behavior/signtatures/yada yada, avast just got HIPS too). Comcast offers Norton for free though, a full security suite. Norton is never mentioned as a top contender nowadays. However, how does it compare to avast free? Thanks folks!

Answer:AVAST Free Antivirus 2015‎ vs Norton Security Suite

Hello welcome to MT

I 'd pick Avast free, I'm used to its settings... and with hardened mode can protect more effective. Its been a while since I used Norton. It was pretty good when I used it.

It depends on if you want a change or go with what you know... but both are light and decent choices.

Hi Folks;
I saw someone post a similar topic on this and I was hoping that somebody could help me out.

It looks like I have an instance of "Nice-Doggy" (?) on my system. I've tried the usual Malwarebytes, AdWare, Spyhunter and RogueKiller. Norton Secuity Suite doesn't find anything either.

Norton firewall is running and stops the program "Updater.exe" from accessing the internet. The virus tries to connect every 10 minutes.

I've run FRST64.exe and I am attaching the requested files. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Issue: Norton Security Suite blocking edits in Win Photo Gallery (Win Vista 32 bit) - unresolved by Norton support tech

Norton Security Suite is blocking a ""heuristic virus"" which in the most recent incident is labeled as file "a&j\appdata\local\temp\~pi193a.tmp" and in 23 instances over 3 days was referenced by Norton as "~pi(individual number).tmp (bloodhound.Exploit.13) .

Despite working with a Norton tech via live chat and remote desktop, the same error is occuring where Norton is blocking me from saving edits in my Windows Photo Gallery.

All of these blocking actions happen while I am attempting to edit/save a photo in Windows Picture Gallery.

Prior to May 3rd I was able to use Picture Gallery without issue. Since working with the Norton tech I succeeded in saving two edits, then BLAM! Norton pops up a notice that Auto-Protect blocked a heuristic virus. As before I contacted Norton, when I try to save an edit (or delete a photo) in Windows Picture Gallery, the Gallery shows a message that "changes cannot be saved..." so the normal automatic save of an edit or deletion in Windows Picture Gallery is prohibited from working.

Yes, I have checked all the administrative options for each file and photo. There is no property issue here.

I went on live chat with a Norton tech last night and he asked permission to connect remotely. I watched as he checked EVERYTHING and I gave permission to remove 3 progr... Read more

Re: Issue: Norton Security Suite blocking edits in Win Photo Gallery (Win Vista 32 bi

One possible workaround that springs to mind is to turn off Norton's scanning on saving/writing files when you're using that photo editor, just allow it to scan on opening/reading. Make sure you turn it back on when you're back to browsing the 'net.

Have you tried using another editor (Paint, for example) to see if the symptoms are the same?

As the title suggests, I'm struggling to get my outlook 365 to work with my G Suite gmail account.

I started a small service business 2 years ago and have got to the point where I am doing well but want to grow things. I have been managing with my free gmail account but want to present a more professional image so I went and registered a domain name and signed up for G Suite so that I have an @businessname email address.

I have set it up fine with the domain and can send and receive emails through the webmail thing but I want to be able to do it through my Outlook 365. I am so used to using Outlook that I get annoyed at other client software, plus I paid for 365 so that's another reason I want to use it.

I had zero problems setting up my free gmail account with outlook but I can't figure out this paid version of it. I enter my email address and password in the Auto-Configure part and it finds the account settings and then asks me for username and password again.

The server name is the domain host I bought my domain registration from and I have tried, for user name and password, my g suite details and my domain host details but neither work. I have tried setting up the IMAP myself using the details in my DNS management settings and that seems to cause outlook to have a seizure and stop working.

I have tried googling for answers but I feel like I'm fumbling around in the dark here. Any and all help will be appreciated greatly

Just purchased a new laptop - which runs Windows 8. Will I be able to run Microsoft Office Suite 2002 on this? I love using "Money" which is included in this Suite. Unfortunately the computer doesn't come with much software (Dell). Also I'm wondering what mail program is included in this Inspiron 15R Windows 8 (Inspiron 5521) . Right now I use Windows Mail.

Hi all,.
My wife has a new laptop running Windows 7 and has migrated from Xp (which she loved) I have transferred most of her files and she now has a problem. Before on the xp laptop she used to work with Microsoft works Suite 2001that ran Microsoft Works 6.0 and mainly the Picture It part of the suite using the Picture It, Publishing 2001 Set up Design and Art.
She still likes this prog as she is very comfortable with it and it does just what she wants it to do. The problem was that when she went to open one of her files it was a php file and tho she has got Office 2007 on her new pc it will not open the file. I tried to install the worksuite 2001 onto the new pc from the original discs that we have and after a while an error comes up unable to load dll file ?? Does this mean it is not compatible and if so can anyone reccomend a (free if possible) program that we can use to open/use the php files
Kind regards Ian n Jackie

Answer:Is Microsoft work Suite compatible with Windows 7

The actual error message says (after it says it installed it ok and requested a restart)
Setup is unable to ofind SETUP.DLL which is needed to complete the installation Error 103
I have tried to run/install in compatible mode

Hi all! I have a Toshiba Tecra notebook running Windows XP. Prepackaged with the notebook is the Protector Suite software which handles the enrollments and other information for my fingerprint reader, which opens the My Safe folder.

I had been having some problems sporadically lately with my fingerprint reader having trouble reading my fingerprint scan. This wasn't a huge deal to me, as I could always access my backup password to open the folder.

A few days ago, I double-clicked on my My Safe folder...and nothing happened. When I attempted to open it again, it said "My Safe is busy. Please try again later." I right-clicked on the folder, and the "Unlock my safe" option was no longer listed, leading me to believe that the application was open, but unviewable for some odd reason. The option to enter my backup password no longer appears either.

I reinstalled the Protector Suite software, but when I attempt to enroll my fingerprints, I get an error message. When I double-click on My Safe, nothing happens. I don't even get the "My Safe is busy" message anymore, and there is no longer an option to lock or unlock My Safe when I right-click on the folder. It would appear that, somehow, my fingerprint reader has become detached or something, and the software can no longer read it.

I tried restoring my notebook to my previous saved state, but nothing changed.

Hello! A couple of days ago I unfortunately got infected by the Microsoft Security Suite malware. It was completely blocking my Internet capabilities and even preventing many of my programs from working (including antivirus), and of course there were all the annoying pop-ups. In Safe Mode Networking, I was able to install Malwarebytes and run it, and after running a complete scan of my system, it solved MOST of the problem. My non-Web-based Internet software is working again (like Skype and POP3), and the pop-ups have disappeared - everything else seems normal. But whenever I open any of my browsers I get an error message that says that says "The proxy server is refusing connections." Then I tried running my usual antivirus (Microsoft Security Essentials) and it did find one file that Malwarebytes seemed to have missed, but when it tried to remove it I got an error saying that it couldn't be removed. Now the file itself seems to have vanished (although in my MSE log it says it was cleaned - not sure how that was possible given the error message). And still, my browers won't work. My question is, is there still a trace of the malware on my system and if so, how do I remove it? Or is this all just the result of some sort of damage that my programs sustained when the malware was present?

Answer:Got Microsoft Security Suite mostly off my laptop, but browsers won't work

"The proxy server is refusing connections."Click to expand...

Check the Control Panel->Internet Options and delete all proxy settings found.

Then check each Browser: Tools->Options and remove the proxy setting from there too

Hi Guch. . .

Good to see you again back here at the Tech Support Forum.

What exactly is the problem that you are having? Also, is the issue with Spaywareblaster 4 or with Spyware Doctor 5.5 or all?

One thing that I can tell you is that running more than one installed anti-virus package often leads to one labelling the other's files(s) as viral - a false positive. They are in competition.

I removed Security Suite 2012 over the weekend following the instructions on this website. It appears to be removed, but I am now having problems with using any search engine. When I attempt to search using Bing or Google, the computer just sits waiting for the website. It does not connect to the search engine nor does it redirect to another site. I saw someone else had similar troubles after removing Security Suite 2012, so I'm suspecting I may not have completely removed it or that it left behind some damage.

Thank you for being here and being so helpful.

Hello,Please download the TDSS Rootkit Removing Tool (TDSSKiller.exe) and save it to your Desktop. <-Important!!!Be sure to download TDSSKiller.exe from Kaspersky's website and not TDSSKiller.zip which appears to be an older version 2.3.2.2 of the tool.Double-click on TDSSKiller.exe to run the tool for known TDSS variants.
Vista/Windows 7 users right-click and select Run As Administrator. If TDSSKiller does not run, try renaming it.To do this, right-click on TDSSKiller.exe, select Rename and give it a random name with the .com file extension (i.e. 123abc.com). If you do not see the file extension, please refer to How to change the file extension.Click the Start Scan button.Do not use the computer during the scanIf the scan completes with nothing found, click Close to exit.If malicious objects are found, they will show in the Scan results - Select action for found objects and offer three options.Ensure Cure (default) is selected, then click Continue > Reboot now to finish the cleaning process.A log file named TDSSKiller_version_date_time_log.txt (i.e. TDSSKiller.2.4.0.0_27.07.2010_09.o7.26_log.txt) will be created and saved to the root directory (usually Local Disk C:).Copy and paste the contents of that file in your next reply.~BladeIn your next reply, please include the following:TDSSKiller Log

I currently have the Norton product installed on my system. The subscription will run out in about a week. Time Warner offeres the EZ Armour suite at no charge for customers. Is there any major technical or quality reasons to not switch to the EZ Armour?

Also, if I do switch, are there any suggestions for fully removing the Norton Product? I have heard that this can be somewhat difficult.

I have a person who fears his computer has been compromised, and he's using the "Norton Business Class" (his words, google told me it was Norton Business Suite) software to protect his system. Over the phone, he was able to tell me the firewall detected traffic to his computer after he thought he'd shut it off and gone to work.

I've never used the product, and I'm not finding documentation on how to use the software when I search the net. (I'm finding lots about the service, and standard information about what it includes, features, etc to sell the service. But no particular help documents or user guides.) Does anyone know how to pull the firewall logs from the software so he can send them to me for review?

Hi, I'm new to internet security systems so please bear with me as I explain, Which is considered the better choice Norton Security Suite or CA Security Center? Can I have both on my computer? Also I clicked on the link for "Antimalware, And Antispyware Resources" and I am wondering should I add some of these applications in addition to the Norton & or the CA:
- Spyware & Malware Removal Utilities
- Spyware Protection Programs
- Online/Virus Scanners
- Malware/Virus Specific Cleaners or References
- Spyware Removal Tools
- Tools to help prevent Spyware
Or are these types of applications all a part of the Norton & or the CA.
Any help will be greatly, greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Answer:Which Is Better Norton Security Suite or CA Security Center?

You ask a common question for which you will receive varying opinions and recommendations. There is no universal "one size fits all" solution that works for everyone and there is no best anti-virus. Please see Choosing an Anti-Virus Program. Before to read the note why using more than one anti-virus program is not advisable. After reading that, scroll up to the first topic posting and read Best Practices for Safe Computing - Prevention.

Trying to sort through some problems on my father-in-laws pc running 2000 professional and I am visiting and here only once a year. Three Norton issues:

Norton Internet Security 2006 shows a trojan horse C:\WINNT\system32\delttsul.exe
It says access denied and can't delete it. I have read up on it on the Norton site and I am going to make a registry backup and then follow Norton's instructions to get rid of it.
Any problem/suggestions concerning me doing this?

Norton also gets a message during live update. : security update 1 of 1 failed LU1801.
Is this related to the trojan horse or another issue? All other updates seem to be ok and virus definitions are up to date.

When I run system scan and then tick full system scan, the scan is short and only scans 676 files and it used to scan thousands so I know this is wrong...what is up?,,trojan horse again?

Any suggestions appreciated.

To site administrator, sorry, I previously posted this in the all other software forum by mistake so I re-posted it here.

I installed microsoft suite 2000 on my new pc which is running xp. The installation went fine; however, I do not have the codes to make word, etc. work. I tried to uninstall suite 2000; however, I get errors every time and it will not uninstall all the way. It is currently in add/delete programs section but it will just not uninstall all the way. What I am attempting to do is add suite 2002 to my xp. When I try and install the suite 2002, it says "installing suite 2000" and then it messes up and I get some more errors stating its unable to install it. I found the program that uninstalls suite 2000; however, it does not work with the xp operating system. Is there any way I can manually remove suite 2000 and all of its contents so I can install suite 2002? I hope someone can help me with this. Thank you very much. (Email removed by Moderator.)

Answer:Removing suite 2000 and installing suite 2002

Hi, Airbag. I removed your email address 'cause you'll likely end up getting spam. There is software out there that searches the web for email-like strings... If you want to put your email on the web, you might try something like me-at-isp-com, so it's not recognized as an email string.

Anyway...

This is a task and a half. Start by going into Windows Explorer and deleting all Office stuff; probably C:\program files\microsoft office.

Then you need to delete it from the registry. Hit Start-Run and type regedit and hit enter.

Delete the 9.0 folder:

hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\office\9.0

If you have any other numbers, like 8.0 or 10.0, delete them too.

Close ALL programs. Hit Start-Run and type %temp% and hit enter. Delete all the files in there. If you have Windows 2000, there may be some folders you cannot delete, and that's okay. If it says there's hidden files, delete them too.

Try the install of XP.

This is probably a dumb question, but hopefully easy to answer. It is about my Norton security. I have the 2004 internet security, and when I do the scan, there is one threat. I am advised to delete this threat, but when I try, the thing just doesn't work. Getting help from Norton seems to be impossible. I have tried the delete button and the others, nothing works. I do my updates often and my scans once a week, but I cannot delete the threat. I think it's called trojan. I have a new computer and don't want to mess it up. Can someone please help? Oh yes, I guess I should say I am probably computer illiterate.

Hi FolksCan someone please ecplain what is Norton 360 and how does it work? What is it's purpose? Do I have to do anything to make it work once it is installed on the computer?Thank You.

Answer:What is Norton 360 and how does it work?

It's a comprehensive package of antivirus, antimalware etc that has to be paid for. Many users of these forums prefer to use freebies which seem to work equally well (MSE, Avast!, AVG etc). It pretty much runs itself once installed.

I recently have been having trouble when running live update. It would just get hung up and nothing would happen. I uninstalled Norton. Then I tried to reinstall Norton 2004 from the cd, I cant install. I double click on the exe file and nothing happens. Tonight I downloaded McAfee virus software and the same thing happens when I click on update. I get a message that says McAfee security center failed to initialize correctly.

Any ideas on what could be the problem? I'd appreciate any help you can give!

I am using Norton 360 Version 2.5.0.5, and currently have my subscription active through November of 2009. Ever since I upgraded to Windows 7 RC about a week ago, Norton 360 reports that everything is turned on and 'protecting me' - AV, Spyware protection, firewall, Identity Protection, etc., however the Windows 7 Action Center has always reported that I do not have any Spyware/Malware protection, AV protection, or a firewall - All things that I have through Norton 360, and are all currently running just fine. Does my version of Norton simply just not work with Windows 7?

Answer:Does Norton 360 work with Windows 7?

I think this an issue with Norton 360. They have to use the API which is provided by Windows to notify the Action Center that everything is working correctly. I think you'll have to wait for an update of Norton 360 which support this functionality.

I noticed yesterday that my Norton Anti-Virus and Norton Internet Security were not running. When I go to Start menu and try to open them, nothing happens. I can not recall exactly when they quit working and I have rebooted and still nothing. Another, possibly related or unrelated problem...When I try to run the Norton online virus scan or Windows update on internet explorer, they will not run and a pop-up states that I do not have Active X enabled and that my security settings are too high. However, I followed instructions to fix this and didn't change anything because according to internet options, my security is at medium and Active X is enabled. I have no idea what happened or how to check since my virus software isn't working. Does anyone know anything about this?! or how I could find out what is wrong?? Thanks in advance if you can!

Answer:Norton won't work...IE problems

go to http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip it and make sure it is unzipped & placed into it's own folder, not a temporary folder. Then doubleclick the Hijackthis.exe.
Click the "Scan" button, when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.
Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.
It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required,
so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

I am in desperate need of some help. I'm running Windows XP (no SP2 installed yet) and I can't install Norton Antivirus 2005 which I just purchased and downloaded. Here's my complete story, I'll try to keep it brief.

I had some spyware/viruses which had taken over Internet Explorer and my old version of Norton AV didn't catch them. I ran Adaware and cleaned everything which worked until I rebooted and IE was hijacked again (I did this several times). The culprit was in my startup but I couldn't find the process.

So I purchased and downloaded Norton AV 2005. I removed my old Norton AV (through Add/Remove Progs) and then I installed the new. 1/4 way thru the install it froze. I had to kill it. Now it won't install. I've removed every piece of Norton from my PC. I've followed all of their instructions on the Symantec website. My registry is free of Nortons and so is my harddrive. I did a selective startup and tried to install but the same result. The initial install window pops-up, I push 'Install', the completion meter goes to the end, and then the window disappears. I never get to the main setup/install window anymore. I've ran Adaware and it comes up clean. I found the culprit in my startup and removed it. I'm virus free now (I think) but I now have no antivirus software.

Has anybody seen this or can anybody help me? Symantec wants $30 for tech support and I have a feeling they will just walk me through wha... Read more

I have a PIII866 Running XP. Office 2003

-A large email won't be downloaded from the server. (using outlook 2003
-Web surfing seems extremely slow (seems like there is a worm sending mass mail possibly)
- When I try to run any application, there is a considerable time delay before the program runs. This may be up to 1-2 minutes (with no other applications open or running)
-Can't download Norton updates or Mcafee updates. It just hangs.

I tried to download the SOBER worm fix from Norton's site and it wouldn't let me download it. I then downloaded it to a floppy on another computer and it wouldn't read it unless i ran XP in safe mode.
I ran the Sober fix and it found nothing.

I took the HD out of my PC and connected it to my windows 2003 server Enterprise edition, running Mcafee 8.0i with up to the minute updates. I scanned the newly installed HD 3 times and it found nothing. I've run spybot 1.04 and ad-aware 1.06 as well.

Answer:problem with the office suite

Wow, this could be a million different things. Does your CD/DVD drive show up in "My Computer"? If so, explore the disk and find the setup.exe. Then install it manually. Also make sure that you're running as an administrator. Hope this helps.
