Preferred Solution: Video Playback & Streaming in XP - Problem

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Video Playback & Streaming in XP - Problem

Try using winamp to watch them, full screen,if it still does it,then its likely the monitor. If is goes away, then its something with WMP and the cure is already installed on your machine(as I haven't the faintest howto fix WMP)click here

I recently installed Windows Service Pack 2, actually three times after reinstating my computer software to the original state by erasing and reinstalling the full software install CD on my computer's hard drive for Window XP Home. I have no problems playing games with my new FX 5200 Ultra video card by BFG, but I am at random times getting the annoying green screen that blanks out my videos I am streaming or playing(happens when I am streaming more often). Then after that happens usually, the computer reboots or shuts off. I never had this happen before. My computer's memory tests ok so why can I play games with this never happening but when I am streaming or watching video through Windows Media Player, etc do I get the "green screen blankout" and then often the shutdown of my computer? I have 512 MB of system memory and 128 MB of video memory! I use System Mechanic and it shows I have at least half of my memory even during playback so what is the problem here? I can attach my system computer file of my information if you like in an e-mail if it will help. AND YES I HAVE THE DIVX CODECS. I thought about that to and uninstalled and reinstalled them with the same random problems. PLEASE HELP ME. This is really annoying.

Answer:video playback and streaming. Video card problem or software?

Well, it seems u dont have a hardware problem. this problem occurs only when u r watching videos. so i guess its the media player. take my suggestion, stop using it. Download this pack: KLite Codec Pack. I think the latest version is 3.2. Its got all the codecs u need to play compressed videos, and dvds. Its also got an advanced media player which can play any video u open it with like wmv, dat, mpg, rm, mov, avi, divx..... of course, the codecs for these formats r included in the pack.

For the last month or so online video has been choppy. In troubleshooting the problem I've found that another computer on the same network doesn't have this problem so not the network or internet connection. Neither is the problem about buffering since it'll still be choppy after the entire video has loaded. As well, I can download and save a choppy video and play it back on VLC or even open and play it from within Firefox and it works fine. The problem is only when streaming videos from a website (all websites) whether in Firefox, Chrome or IE.

I've tried updating the Flash Player, DirectX and video card driver, I've tried turning on/off hardware acceleration in Flash, Firefox and Display within Control Panel, I've tried disabling my virus protection and firewall, I've tried locating and disabling startup programs and services associated with none running software programs....Nothing works.

Does anyone have any ideas I could try to fix this?

Answer:Choppy streaming video playback within browser.

Is this happening at Youtube or elsewhere? Is it just happening at one site or several sites? Link please so I can look at it myself. How much RAM do you have? Be aware that random buffering and choppiness on streaming video sites can be normal even if it doesn't seem normal. One solution is to pause the video and allow it to load completely before playing it.

I've been using it for a long while now...and it is finally ticking me off. What is with Windows 10 and awful streaming video performance on certain sites?

And before you say anything:
-Same LAN/router/modem
-Same ample bandwidth to work with (30 megabit)
-Same website (Eurosportplayer, specifically-they're the only tools left streaming Silverlight BS)
-Same wireless connection
-Same video quality selection
-Same (if not similar browsers)

Windows 10 rig is my sig rig in this test (i7 and GTX 980 with latest drivers every time I've tried)
Windows 7 rig is a cheapo Lenovo laptop with I think an i3 and integrated graphics

Windows 7 will play Microsoft Silverlight video just fine. Windows 10 will not.

I've tried Opera, Chrome, Internet Explorer, and Firefox....the trend is the same. W10 is unusable, video seems to buffer/freeze every 3-10 seconds (varying on browser) for 3-5 seconds. Windows 7 plays it fine-all browsers. Shoot my sig rig played Silverlight Eurosport fine before switching to W10. Anyone know how to fix this, from what I've read it has been an issue on W10 from Day 1 of RTM?

Answer:Annoyed enough to ask: W10 and horrendous streaming video playback?

Your machine hates Windows 10, simple, you should listen to it.

/me ducks and covers...

Looking at your sig you're using... Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB. Well there you go, it's not really a "multimedia friendly" OS to be perfectly honest, and out of the box it's not designed for such purposes as people seem to think just because they can use it and they can strip it down a bit in terms of the privacy issues and some others.

I'd make an image of that installation, install Windows 10 Pro (or Basic) and see if things are exactly the same on the exact same hardware - I'm willing to bet $1 (Mortimer brothers be damned) that you'll have somewhat better performance with streaming.

I know this has probably been asked here several times, but I have been looking through the web for all sorts of little tips and tricks and none of them so far have worked. Any hulu/youtube/etc. streaming content type videos, even on the lowest hd setting (288p, for ex.) just ends up being choppy, worst in full screen. Here are my specs:

AMD Athlon XP 2600+ CPU
1.0 gig of Ram
PNY GeForce FX5200 256 mb PCI Graphics card
Windows XP Home Ed. w/SP3
160 gb HD

I am aware that this is definitely an older computer with an older processor, and if anything, it's probably the cpu that is preventing me from having normal playback with streaming content. I had a laptop with a Core Duo processor that worked fine with this type of video, but I fried it so I am stuck with this for now. Haven't used this PC in a few years so now I am noticing it's limitations as far as this stuff goes. If anyone has had any luck with an older machine getting relatively normal playback with these streams, please let me know. I have tried reducing hardware acceleration, drivers are fully updated for graphics card, hard drive is formatted so no viri are causing this, reinstalling flash, changing settings on monitor, and playback is the same. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated

My dell 4500s has choppy streaming video playback and dropped audio
in full screen mode when playing video from fox.com or hulu.com
When I play in the small window mode the playback is fine so I tried lowering my screen resolution from 1680x1050 to 800x600 then played
video in full screen mode with no problem other then incorrect aspect ratio.

I believe I have most of the latest dell drivers installed and did a speed test
2480 kb/s way faster than recommended by fox

My native res. is 1680x1050 for Samsung sm 2232bw .

Hi everyone. I’ve been having a big problem with viewing video clips on my pc. I’m running XP Pro and the only software that is installed on my pc is Office 2003 Pro and Project 2003 and Visio 2003.

Every time I try to open a video clip, it freezes the picture and all you hear is the audio for the clip but the video doesn’t play. When I “end task” the program, usually windows media player, it locks the computer up, mouse keyboard, everything.

I have a program that checks all of the codecs on my pc and none of the codecs seemed to have had a problem.

I also uninstalled media player and installed it again from Microsoft’s website (latest version).

Anyway my computer locks up whenever a video clip is played, even if I go to a website that uses my media player as opposed to running it from their server.

Any thoughts? I’m beginning to get a little desperate.

Answer:Video Playback Problem

first thing i'd do is reinstall my codec pack. your app could have just looked to see if the codec was installed not if if has any errors.

i'm having this problem when i play video files on my computer, where the picture will occasionally freeze for a moment, or lag during playback while the audio continues uninterrupted. I don't know if i'm explaining my problem clearly. i know it's not a problem with a particular piece of software, because this happens on any program i use, be it WMP, WinAMP, or whatever else. I don't think it's my codecs either because i always keep them up to date and pretty organized.

i have four 80gb hdd's in my box right now, one for the os and program files, one for backup, and two set up in a JBOD where all my media is located. could the JBOD affect media playback? i use DIRMs almost on a weekly basis to defrag all four hdd's so i don't think its a fragmentation problem either.

anybody know what's going on here?

hmm, on second thought maybe i should have posted this in general hardware...

Answer:Video Playback Problem (lag?)

I don't care if the codecs are up to date uninstall them and then try this one:
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/codecs_and_filters/ffdshow.cfm

If the problems still occure then it's something else.

Hey there,

I am having troubles getting the playback of videos working on my laptop. Every video I play with any player (windows media, media player classic, real player, ect ect) will sometimes freeze the video (the sound still goes) when I either first play it or full screen the video. The only play it will not do this with is Winamp, but with Winamp there is a problem with my videos when I fullscreen them using Winamp that two black bars on the right and left won't disappear but do not completely touch the bottom and top of the video (so it looks like the video kind of sticks out when its in full screen, very annoying).

I have no idea what it is, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling my codecs and video drivers (I use Combined Community Codec Pack for codecs and Omega Drivers for video drivers).

Hey guys I have a problem playing videos on my hard drive.

I am 99% sure I have a codec needed for the videos.

When I play a video it is either in BLACK AND WHITE or only some color with a pinkist shadow in the video player background.

I can play video off the internet such as youtube 100% with no problems.

I have the latest video card driver, and my windows version is up to date.

Answer:Video Playback Problem

Hi Pilot724..

To be honest, it does sound like a codec issue. It may be an idea to try something like K-Lite Codec Pack as they have a pretty comprehensive set for most video types. Also, Ace Mega Codecs Pack v5.93 is very good too. I have had it installed for a couple of years and I never have any problems with any video content.

The only video files my computer is allowing me to play is DivX files. On top of that it is only letting me play DivX files in DivX player and nothing else. When I try to play .avi, .mpg, .wmv files in WMP 11, Winamp, or Real Player I only hear audio but see no video. However, I hear audio and see video while playing a DivX file in DivX player. I believe this problem started when I upgraded to WMP 11 or up to DivX 6.8. I have uninstalled WMP 11 and went back to WMP 9 but that didn't change anything. I uninstalled DivX 6.8 and reverted back to DivX 6.6 and it worked. I could play my video files in WMP 11. That lasted for 2 weeks and then it happened again for no apparent reason. I have audio and video in DivX player but only audio in WMP 11 etc. The driver for my video card is up to date and I think I have all necessary codecs. If anybody can think of what might be wrong and have a solution for me I would really appreciate your help with this.

Thank you,
Kevin

A friends PC worked fine, played back standard def and 720p HD without a problem.

Then it stopped, and started using 100% CPU for either type of video file and staggers/pauses.

For what appeared to be no reason at all.

We reinstalled Windows XP, all current drivers etc and still the same.

We changed the Hard Drive and still the same. (in-case of PIO mode)

We changed the memory and still the same.

We changed the GFX card and still the same.

Thing is it worked perfectly fine before it started craping out.

Its a dual core 3.2ghz processor with a gig of ram, it worked perfectly before!

We dont know what to do anymore other than change the CPU and/or Motherboard!

Any help would be very much greatly accepted!

Thanks in advance

Answer:Video Playback Problem

You'll want to put it back into DMA mode (PIO is slooow).
dual-core should be plenty of horsepower for HD.
First thing I'd try to do is get the latest drivers for the graphics card (generic drivers from Microsoft probably aren't optimized for DXVA)

Have you tried Media Player Classic HC?
http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/
You'll definitely want to read this though:
http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/DXVASupport.html
DXVA is a technology that allows for the GPU to offload video decoding from the CPU. It requires proper codecs and players to work. (and naturally for proper graphics card and graphics drivers)

Can you list additional specs? GPU? Do you have the latest drivers for GPU? Media Players and codecs installed.

Answer:Video(any) playback problem

Have you checked your video card drivers? Can you play DVD's? What program are you using to check the codec of the file you are trying to run?

If you can play a dvd, then you should be able to play avi and mpeg files assuming you have the codec needed and that the files are proper mpeg and avi files and not hoax files. If you dont have it try Avicodec. If this can't read the file then it's a duff file. But I don't think thats the problem in your case. It will be a codec problem or a video card/driver problem. Installing to much codec can be problematic also.

Hi guys.

I am running an i3-2100 using built in graphics. I have the latest driver installed, as well as adobe flash, but youtube videos are not playing smoothly. This happens both in fullscreen and the normal size.

I noticed in my Sony laptop there is java, MSXML 4.0 SP2, microsoft visual c++, directx, shockwave player, and .net framework 4.0. These programs are not installed on the pc in question, because I built it myself and used a windows 7 x64 fresh install.

How can I get smooth playback?
Do I need any of these things installed? Can anyone suggest trying something else?

btw, 1080p movies in vlc play no problem.

Thanks in advance, very appreciated.

Maybe internet connection? I would say you may just want to install those programs and see if it works better. All of the programs are less than 50 megs and should take less than ten minutes to install all of them.

Right. I have a 700Mb avi file on my PC, and a nice big lcd tv downstairs with a VGA input thingy.
I copy the avi file onto my external hard drive (It throws up an box saying 'Are you sure you want to copy this file without its properties', whatever this means). I then copy it from the external drive onto my laptop, and give it a test play to make sure it works. It does.
I go downstairs, plug the laptop into TV, using the Nvidia control panel to set the TV to display the same thing as the laptop monitor. Then I try and play the video. Media player opens, sound comes out, but no picture.
Try media player classic. No picture. I've unplugged the TV, installed the latest ffdshow, restarted, but nothing works. Since plugging into the TV, I'm unable to play any video files, they just display nothing.

Before I plugged it into the TV, I could play all video files. After, I can't get the video for any, just the sound. Plus, the playback is rather laggy.
The laptop is running SP2, using the cccp.

Thanks :)

Hi everybody,Can anyone offer any advice or suggestions regarding the following media player video playback problem? Before continuing, it may be worth mentioning that the above problem first appeared immediately following a computer-hanging-at-shutdown problem which I finally managed to fix via, I think, a Windows update!I say I think because I'm not exactly sure what it was that fixed the problem as a result of trying a number of things including:1 ? After clicking to allow Windows to connect to Windows update to search for software, which shows as ?Unknown?, I get a ?Hardware not installed because Windows can't find new software? message. Please note that this problem only affects video playback. how do i stop those windows installer screens from poping up.

Hello all,

I've got a new built computer, with a brand new used 22" Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2040u monitor (with WAY more gizmo's, gadet's, buttons, and knobs than I know what to do with! See my post in the hardware forum). My problem is this. My computer screen looks great! Huge, actually. And the colors are fine. *Until,* that is, I play a movie. Then it gets dark. I have WMP 11 installed. I can't find my PowerDVD 5 disc anywhere, so I went looking for a free DVD player, and came up with VideoLan VLC 0.8.6b. Installed it, and now the DVD's I play in addition to the mpg's I play are very dark. Color's all wrong. I do have the newest update of Divx on here (just updated today, after this problem, and didn't fix this problem.) This didn't happen 3 days ago, but that was before my monitor died. So its either my monitor that's a problem, but I doubt that cuz everything else looks just fine including movies played on MSN, or some sort of codec or something problem. So I tried uninstalling VLC, still problems. Currently that's where I've stopped.

SO, summary: New computer w/WMP 11, and new Divx and VLC no longer on, but on for awhile, just DVD's and mpgs played in WMP or VLC (while it was on) or Divx Player look dark. Anything played online is fine.

I should clarify. VLC was installed just today. Before it was installed mpg's worked fine, couldn't play DVD's...

Any thoughts anyone??

TIA

Hello everyone,

I've got a problem with trying to watch streaming videos, they run for a couple of seconds and then stop as they try to buffer.

The thing is, everything was running fine up until a couple of days ago and then this buffering problem happened. I recently did a fresh install of everything, running XP with service pack 3 and the newest version of Firefox. I'm pretty sure my flash player is also up to date. Is anybody else having this problem? Thanks in advance for your help.

Is this just on Youtube? Try a different viral video site like Daily Motion.

I am having problems with streaming videos from some, er, adult sites and also, intermittently, from the eminently respectable BBC iPlayer. The problem is continual buffering so the video plays in short bursts, which destroys the impact. Sometimes the buffer counts down which is equally odd. It does not seem to affect YouTube though. Is this a problem for my ISP, which is AOL? Suggestions welcome.

I've got a PC having video problems streaming but only with these sites that stream live football games and sports events. It runs fine with youtube etc. No problems with movies or anything like that. All the basic stuff checked like updated video drivers, disk space, flash etc. Also tried disabling hardware accelerator. The sound works fine but the video runs in slow motion. My thinking is the on-board card or lack of memory but the fact it runs other site such as youtube I'm doubting this. BB speed is excellent so this is not the problem. Any ideas?

Answer:Video streaming problem.

Look to the web pages FAQ's and see what the minimum requirements are. You may need a video card with separate video memory to play this site. Also when streaming, stop the video from automatically starting, and let it buffer for a few minutes (there may be a grey progress bar ahead of the actual playing progress bar)
Be sure to update Java and Shockwave.

Hi there :)

I'm running into an odd problem. It started a couple days ago for reasons unknown. If I try to play an embedded video, such as this, the video will begin to play in media player as normal, but a download progress window will also open. This didn't use to happen, but here's the really weird part- if I cancel the download progress window, everything is fine; if I let it go the video will either restart, or stop playing all together along with an error message stating that the file cannot be found.

I tried clearing my TIFs, relocating my TIF folder, checked and rechecked every setting I can see, and everything looks fine. It's kind of baffling =[

Any ideas?

Hi @AKKIP, Welcome to the HP Forums! I read your post and wanted to reach out to help you! In your post, you had said that currently your HP Pavilion 14-b003tx Ultrabook is having sound issues.  You could try: 1. Right click the Speaker icon in the bottom right corner by your time.2. Click Playback Devices.3. Click Speakers.4. Click properties.5. Click the advanced tab on the Properties window.6. Change the Default Format drop-down to the highest quality.7. Apply the properties.8. Click OK to close the properties window. Restart the Notebook and test the sound. Here is a link to help troubleshoot the sound. Please let me know how this goes. To simply say thanks, click the Thumbs up below!  Thanks.

My system specs are below. I use XP home SP1 everything updated execpt SP2, including video and audio codecs. My browser is MSN premium and I use to be able to use MSN priemium to stream online video via mediaplayer on my last comp with XP home. Now when I left click it gives me three options: open file (which fully downloads in to a temp folder), save file, and download file later. There is no stream option.

How do I set left click to automatically stream with media player the video or even the audio link?

I have a client with a Q-See DVR that they would like to access remotely. The web interface works fine internally (192.168.x.x). I opened up port 80 and 2000, and setup dynamic dns for them. I can connect to the web interface remotely, but none of the video shows up. Any ideas?

Answer:Q-See DVR Video Streaming Problem

Maybe a browser issue? I have a client with a different vendor's DVR, but we can only view the video in Internet Explorer. It installs an ActiveX component, which then makes everything work. Firefox, Safari, Opera - none of them work.

I've been having the same problem for a while now. When I try to watch a video online, I can only load a small portion of it at a time. The progress bar will only move part of the way (usually only a minute or two out of a 30 minute video) and then completely stop. I've tried waiting for several hours to see if it's just slow, but it just stops.

It's not a matter of a slow connection--mine is very fast.
This happens both in IE and Firefox. I have cleared my cache and reinstalled Flash Player, but that didn't help either.

Any ideas???

I am having issues with streaming video from my PC to my TV by means of an HDMI cord. It used to be very simple: I would plug in the HDMI cord to both the PC and TV, change the settings on the T.V. to "HDMI", and on the PC press the "windows key + P" to change the settings to "duplicate" or "extend". I tried clearing everything up with my Norton services, but I can't find any issues.
Now the streaming won't work and I am not sure why. If I create another account on the computer it sometimes works but after enough times of streaming video, that stops working as well. The last time I tried the visual part worked, however I couldn't transfer the sound to the T.V. even when I tried adjusting all the settings. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

I'm running Win XP Home with SP2, fully up-to-date, with WMP 10. I had no prior problems with streaming videos. However, I recently installed Nero, after which I find that streaming to WMP 10 no longer works. Instead, the files have to be downloaded first. I've checked the file associations in WMP 10 and Win XP, and ensured that .wmv and .wma files are to be opened with WMP, but that doesn't help.

Shall I try re-installing WMP 10? Or is there some setting in WMP that was overwritten by Nero?

Thx for any advice.

I am trying to stream video from music.yahoo.com and other sites with embedded video. Media Player just locks up or says "Buffering" or "Connecting" forever. It works fine on any other computer in my house just not mine. I am using media player 10, I also tried installing 9 and had the exact same problem. I don't know if it is a Codec problem or what. I can't figure it out. It has nothing to do with my firewall since the other computers that work fine are on the same firewall. Even reformatting does nothing! Is there a substitute for Media Player that I can use? If I download the file first then play it, then it works fine, I just can't stream direct.

Hello,

I recently did an upgrade on my laptop, just so I can have a clean version of Windows 7 ad start from scratch as the system was feeling a bit clunky. I m planning on doing a clean install and formatting soon (maybe tomorrow), but for now I currently have a problem.

So before the upgrade, I had no problem playing YouTube videos, or any other videos on streaming sites using both Mozilla and Chrome. I could watch videos on wither piece of software at 720p without any problems with lag and stuttering. After this upgrade, nothing seems to work. When I try to watch YouTube videos, even on 360p I will get major slowdown on the video itself and when using the laptop. Thos only occurs when the videos is playing, and when stopped it goes away. I have looked at task manager to see the CPU usage and when playing videos the usage of it is in the high 80s and lower 90s percentages.

The current actions I have taken are these:
I have disabled hardware acceleration in both Adobe Flash Player and Mozilla.
Removed enhancements on audio in case it was audiodg tampering with it (had this problem before)
I have disabled all of the add-ons I have present in the browser, including Adobe Flash Player
When I did this, the Mozilla's own container was still giving me high CPU usage
I have tried booting with just Microsoft applications and drivers running and still get the high usage
I am currently doing the following:
Running a MalwareBytes scan
Running a MSE scan

ok, so far i've only noticed this to happen with .asf files, and i have no idea why it's happening. when i open the .asf files, windows media player pops up and then starts buffering, which is normal. but then after it buffers some, it will start to play the files but i can only hear it. there is no video whatsoever; just a black screen. i've tried downloading codec packages, opening it with other players, upgrading my windows media player, and some other stuff. i think my player just can't recognize that file format for some reason because i have streamed other VoD files before that had the extension .asx i think it was. if anyone has had this happen and knows wtf is going on, or if anyone just has any ideas that might help, plz help.

I have a Dell SC600 tower computer, several years old. It has a P4 with 2.66 GB speed. I have 2 GB ram, 7200 rpm hard drives and an Internet Connection that varies between 2 and 5 MB. I'm guaranteed 2 MB...but most of the time if I check it, it's a lot faster.

This particular problem has started since I installed Windows 7...I never had it in XP. When I installed Windows 7, I didn't have the problem, it seem to have started recently. It could have started when I replaced RC with the Release version.

When I try to play a Video...regardless of the source, it plays for a few seconds, then stops, then plays for a few seconds, then stops, and never just plays. The Video buffer never fills up...it just stays at the current location. \

I don't mind waiting till the buffer reaches 100% and then start playing the video...but no matter how long I wait, the buffer indicator doesn't move.

Any ideas?

However, I thought I might need an update, so I downloaded the newest version (9) and it still didn't help. As you know, this version cannot be uninstalled, so now I'm stuck with it. I think there may be a conflict between Media Player and Real Player, but I'm not sure. Can anyone please help with this???

I just set up a brand new computer that is having problems across all browsers streaming video from sites like YouTube or Facebook. The video appears to be in slow motion/stuttering.

The PC is a Dell Precision 3620, intel (quad core 3.2 GHz, 3.6 Ghz Turbo, 6MB, w/ HD Graphics 530); 16 GB RAM; integrated graphics card. Windows 7 Professional.

Here is what I've already tried:

*I disabled Hardware Graphic Accelerator on all browsers.
*I made sure Adobe flash is up to date.
*I cleared internet history.
*I made sure windows is totally up to date.
*A different computer at the same location (network drop) did not have trouble streaming videos. Other computers on the same network are not having trouble streaming video.
*I checked memory usage and performance when the videos are stuttering and nothing appears to be taking up an exorbitant amount of resources.
* I checked to see if there was an update for the graphics driver (there wasn't)

I rebooted the computer and for a little while, videos streamed ok, but after a few hours, the user reported that videos were once again stuttering/ appear to be playing in slow motion.

I consider myself to be quite good with networking, but I have stumbled across a problem which is starting to bother me. Basically what is happening is when I play any kind of video stream from any given site on the net, my internet connection drops and the only way to revive it is a power cycle of the router. I haven't had this problem until recently (past few months) and I have owned this current router (Linksys Wireless B router) for 3-4 years. I've gone over all of my router settings and everything is set properly. I thought to myself perhaps my router was blocking that video stream via a port block on my router. But this can't be since I even tried opening every well known port on my router (0-50k) for a few minutes to see if that would work but to no avail. Therefore I believe it could an actual router hardware issue. The conclusion I've come to is that I think the router's buffer is recieving the video stream packets in the router's buffer but cannot handle the flow and is discarding them, which in the process locks up my router and thus requiring a power cycle. I think it may be time to buy a new router! What do you guys think?

Answer:Odd video streaming problem...

Put a hub on the outside of the router and sniff the traffic. You might see something in there.

Answer:Streaming/Video problem

Google for "Broadband Speedtest" and see if your data throughput is what you paid for. If it is OK in the test, it could be that the slow down is at the other end.Major sporting events may have peak viewing audiences too big for the service provider, though you would think that since Setanta's business is based on this, they would have adequate bandwidth.

hi, need help..

i'm experiencing a major problem with video streaming or watching videos from sites such as yahoo, nba for morethan a week already; but has no problem watching videos from youtube, metacafe, & the likes or flash videos.

everytime i click a link to a video it doesn't load, and it will stay 1 or 0% all the time. clicking play does nothing. it's just stuck at 0 or 1%, play state is always stuck at "ready". whatever browser i use the result is still the same.

from what i know, nba & yahoo (like featured videos, news) either use Quicktime or Windows Media Player to load & play videos. my prob is it suddenly stopped playing videos for no reason. my media player is upto date, quicktime, realplayer & other codecs are upto date. just wondering why i can't view a video from those sites? does anybody know a solution? anything i need to do?
my OS is XP pro, connection speed is ranging from 700+ to 900+ kbps (dsl connection).
i use IE 6 & Firefox 1.5

Windows XP SP1 with patches dating up to SP2

Router disabled for this problem
Pentium III 1.7 ghz processor
1 gig ram
300 gigs HD's, partitioned, 150gigs free
Windows media player 10
DSL internet connection

When tring to stream a video, any video, any web site, though to the windows media player, it doesnt connect. It tries at first then just returns to the ready option. Refreashing the page does nothing but agravate me further. So here is where I started.

First I checked my nic, ping 127.0.0.1 -t, tried the video with that running and I got complete replies to my nic, the video never came up.

Then I thought, maybe my router is going bad, I removed the router and went from extenal modem strait to pc (rebooting of course). Tried the video again, nothing.

Thats all the hardware I can test, thus I moved on to software tests. I checked windows media player. I uninstalled it, and reinstalled WMP10. Once again, nothing.

Here is a stumper and maybe a root cause, while downloading the WMP10, I noticed I was only downloading at 40k/sec. Slow for even dial up, however I'm on DSL. AND the connection status screen shows a 100Mbs/s connection. Could have been the servers I was connecting to, but it was 1:30 in the AM, so I ruled that out.

I clear my cookies and it doesn't help. I can't get the page to work. I've tried rebooting and that doesn't help. I keep fiddling around and finally it will work.

I have had a problem for some time now with WMP9 and streaming video. the problem is with all formats EXCEPT .asf and .wmv. those two work fine, all others crash WMP9 with an "unknown error". After this had happened a few times I decided to send an error report on it to see if it might find a fix. It came up witth an article that said I needed to update my copy of MPEG Encoder. I do not have that application(yes it was refering to an application, had a link for me to dl it)
I did at one time attempt to install Adobe Premiere but it did not install correctly and I uninstalled it. it included a version of MPEG Encoder in it, so gave that app a shot, it did not fix the problem.

I can play all media formats if they are on my machine. I can also stream these files using Quicktime or RealOne(but I don't like those apps)
The problem also seems to occur in K++(Kazaa) If I try to preview any video types other than wmv or asf, I get the same error as when streaming.

As I said, this has been going on for a while now, I've looked around, asked around and searched old threads here. I can come up with nothing and no one seems to want to help me other than suggesting a format. I do not subscribe to the theory that a format is a fix for anything, so that is not an option. I need to fix this, it has gone from being a slight annoyance, to being a huge headache.

Answer:Streaming video problem

Adobe Premiere is known not to uninstall the codecs it has installed and I personally have had problems with this. IIRC all i had to do was to delete the offending files from windows system folder.. I'm sure you can find the exact instructions how to do this if you search the web (that's how i got them).

Answer:MPeg video playback problem

well, i really dont think its possible for that to be caused by the video card. more likely the drivers or the media player or a codec issue... try vlc player - it uses built in codecs to play almost any media type. or maybe try a different output mode? like rgb instead of VMR for example. if you had an ati maybe you should uninstall any ati stuff and run the catalyst cleanup tool from the ati website too.

Any time I try to play a video; from the net or something I saved from years ago the video will run all chopped up, the sound and visual will start and stop.

It used to be that I had that problem one out of a hundred times, I now have the problem ninety-nine out of a hundred.

I have Windows Media Player which I've re-installed many times to no avail. Anybody have any help? thanks.

So lately I've been noticing that within 15 minutes of starting up my PC audio and video playback works fine. From time to time it works perfectly longer but it's once in a blue moon. But normally once the 15 minutes (or so) are up, audio playback stops working entirely. Recently it's been a problem with video playback too! Like I would go on youtube and the video I would play would be stuck on 0:00 or whatever time I may or may not skip to.

The sound problem is not limited to files on the web because when I open videos in VLC media player the video remains silent despite the sound being on. However, the video usually still plays.

Something else I've noticed is that when I go to the Control Panel > Sound > Configure > Test, it tells me that the device (speakers?) are being used by another program. And if I have headphones plugged in while the audio is still working, a message will eventually pop up telling me that the headphones were disconnected (despite them sill being in there) when the audio stops working.

Oh and this thing is an ASUS Vivobook S400CA, all hardware is the normal factory stuff. I've tried fixing my drivers by downloading those on the ASUS website. I was going to run drivertoolkit to update multiple drivers that may or may not have been problematic but I didn't want to pay the $20-30 before I know that this will fix things.

Any idea what this could be?? Any idea of what I can do to fix this? I don't even kno... Read more

Answer:Audio and video playback problem, please help

What is the status of the audio chipset in Device Manager when the error occurs?

Device detection is a function of the audio drivers. You can try manually updating/reinstalling the audio drivers.

It's also possible there is a hardware fault.

Hey, first time post, go me.

I have a client that recently came to me with a computer problem. They have multiple pcs with cookie cutter builds. Custom-built P4, at 3.0 Ghz, 1gig of DDR1 memory, 60GB Sata Drives, and an MSI RX9250 (ATI chipset) at 128 MB shared DDR. He has several of these pcs running on his office network. They run Windows XP Pro, 32-bit edition. For the most part these computers are only running Office 2003, and their web browsers.

Okay, thats the detail, here is the problem. The computers have problems with video playback. It doesn't matter what the file's source is, whether it is from a dvd, a clip from somewhere like youtube, or an animation from accuweather.com. When a video is played it runs fine for a few seconds, then it sticks for a few seconds before it resumes, it does this the entire length of the video. The jerky video playback happens on Windows Media Player, Nero Media Player, Realplayer, Quicktime, PowerDVD, and Divx. I have ensured that the video card has had its most recent drivers installed, as well as made sure that there is a working Video Codec, but the playback remains the same. This is happening on each of the computers we tested.

So, is this a software problem with the XP installation, or is it related to the video card? I wasn't sure, I have "borrowed" the video card from one of these pcs and put it in a generic office pc with a completely different software package and have the same problem, so I'm pretty sure it... Answer:Interesting video playback problem

Hello,

I would bet that the Video Card can not handle the video processing and is causing this. But from the details this card is a shared device. Which takes the RAM from the system. Only way to really fix it would be to get a dedicated gfx card.

Maybe get more RAM for the system. But i highly doubt that would fix it.

Cheers,
Mak

I bought a brand new Mesh PC about 3 weeks ago, and ever since I first turned it on Ive had trouble playing video. Most of the saved video files played with awful quality and bad colouring, when on other macines they were fine. I have since been trying to play DVDs on it and the same problems occur, overall poor quality. The screen is fine, and the video files play perfectly when editing on Adobe premiere, so I have no idea where the problem is. The files and DVDs play dodgy using Windows Media Player, Cyberlink Power Cinema and Power DVD, even DivX 6.0. Although I can play one or two video files on quicktime and they work fine whereas the same files are bad quality on other players. I havent messed with my video settings whatsoever and Media Player is on its default settings. Someone Please help me!!!!!ThanksAdam

try typing dxdiag into the run dialogue box, click the display tab, and click disable for direct3d and directdraw. then try your video files. this is not a fix as such, but it worked for similar problems i had on an older machine. however you have to keep switching if you want to play games. what graphics card/chipset do you have?

When playing any sort of full-motion video, be it .mpg, .wmv, .avi, .mov whatever, my CPU load cranks up to 100% and my system slows down to a halt, and there's no way out of it but to reboot. Games work fine. Everything else works fine, in fact. And this is with all players, not just WMP. I hear it's a problem with Nvidia's recent drivers, but even when I roll back to 71.89 or 71.84, drivers supposedly without this problem, it persists. Anyone got a line on a possible fix for this? All drivers and codecs are up to date, AdAware scan, virus scan, Nortons scans, all done, no problems.

Answer:Nvidia video playback problem

The more I read about stories like yours the less I like nvidia.
I have a crappy FX-5200 and I get a lot of blue screens if I use
Windows Media player 9
I wind up having to use media player classic from
Real Player alternative and Quicktime alternative to avoid
the blue screens. And it was twice as bad when I was running
service pack 2!
I've probably had a half dozen different nvidia drivers at one
point or other, and none of them helped.
Fortunately for me, media player classic works pretty well.

Please help! I have a music video which someone has given to me on a DVD. I'm the web editor for my local paper and need to get it uploaded to our website today.

Thing is, I have no idea what format it's in. When I check under "properties" it says only "File".

I can open it in Windows Media Player - but I only get the audio. I can open it in VLC Player - but I only get the video and no sound.

If someone could help me out here, I'd be eternally grateful!

Cheers

Answer:Video file playback problem

By the way, WMP says I need a codec. I click on more info and get the following:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file (or cannot play either the audio or video portion of the file) because the DV Codec (dvcp) codec is not installed on your computer.

Anyone know where I can get this? I've Googled with no luck.

Hello all,

Whenever I playback an audio or video file, regardless of format or player involved, I get skipping and pauses whenever the hard drives are accessed or have anything running in the background. An example is if I start listening to music or watching a video file, I can't do anything else without it interrupting the playback. The video and/or audio stops for a split second and all I hear is a playback of that split second for a second or two and then play resumes. It is completely random as to when it happens but it seems to happen most when the hard drives are accessed. I have tried reinstalling Windows and removed all process that I am able to. I try playing them off both hard drives and that doesn't make a difference. Nothing is working.

I'm pretty sure my specs are fast enough to multitask so if anyone has any suggestions, I would love to hear them. Thanks!

Answer:Audio and Video Playback Problem

mmm...

This is a nice problem, I'm glad I don't have... Well the first thing that comes to mind that could be the problem would be your inferior onboard sound card...

But there are a couple of things you can try before buying a SB! live...

1) Run "msconfig" and remove EVERYTHING from startup, restart and test
2) Press ctrl+alt+del and click performance and play your media again
3) If your CPU usage isn't 100% all the time it might be a software problem then...
4) Find updated drivers for your sound card...

Okay it does seem that everything is on par but I'm going to speculate here that sometimes I have found to be the problem with some of my clients...

1) Remove your secondry HD and any CD/DVD drives
2) Put everything on CS (cable select) and your primary HD at the end of the ribbon cable on your primary IDE channel
3) Test

Tell me what you've found...
Good luck...

Hi, I have a R500 - 2714-34G, 4GB Ram, Vista Business 32bit (original OS). Since about 2-3 weeks ago, playing flash videos (youtube, yahoo movies, nfl.com) is not as smooth as before. I get horizontal lines, similar to a v-sync off setting and if I play in full screen it slows down. I have updated to the last video drivers, the lastest BIOS, latest flash... it used to play the videos with no problem. Thank you. UPDATE: I ran the Lenovo toolbox stress test and Full system test and everything is ok hardware wise. Is this a software problem? How to I revert the BIOS update?

Answer:R500 - Video playback problem.

I reinstalled Vista and now it's working fine. The reinstall was overdue as this pc is over 1 year old and you know Windows OS.

Hello all!

Not sure if this is the right forum, but I have a little problem with Windows Media Player, or just any other player in my PC while playing MPG's.

Movie and sound play just fine, no fast forward, no distortion, etc.. but the time bar goes on quicker than the actual timing of the movie. For example, for a 5 minute video, WMP only plays 1 minute. If I try to stop the time bar from its quest to the finish line, then I get to see the part that was supposed to be playing at the place where I stopped the time, but it continues runnin quickly to the end, making it impossible to see the whole video.

I have downloaded Microsoft's Codecs, and some others, but the problem still continues. Please help....

Thanks!

I built a PC in August and it runs very fast and plays games, videos and audio without issue. However, I have been getting occasional BSODs during youtube playback or when playing a video from my hard drive, even if i played the same video moments earlier without issue. I have updated all drivers windows updates, memtest to check ram but nothing seems to explain my PCs sudden desire to BSOD me.

I would be very very grateful if someone would have a look at some min-dumps for me and see if they can identify the issue as i have reached the limit of my computer diagnostic knowledge.

Answer:Intermitent BSOD during internet video playback or avi playback (Win7 Pro 64)

How many Passes did you allow for Memtest? I read your five most recent dumps and the were all of the same error as described below...

Your error is 0x124: WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR and is described as "A fatal hardware error has occurred."

This error code and definition has replaced the older XP code 0x9C: MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION and though it is older the definition still is applicable: This is a hardware issue: an unrecoverable hardware error has occurred. The parameters have different meanings depending on what type of CPU you have but, while diagnostic, rarely lead to a clear solution. Most commonly it results from overheating, from failed hardware (RAM, CPU, hardware bus, power supply, etc.), or from pushing hardware beyond its capabilities (e.g., overclocking a CPU).

Honestly, this is a very difficult error to work with because as it says a clear diagnosis rarely comes forth and I have never seen a minidump with either error codes give a definitive answer. I know IT techs that don't like working with it. What makes it so difficult is that it can be any hardware in your system -- and I mean any. Your dumps simply cited hardware as the issue and nothing more definitive.

Here are some of the causes that were determined to be the source of 0x124/0x9C errors from posters here and abroad: NIC, DVD/CD drives, dust build up around the CPU that caused overheating of said CPU, bulging capacitors hidden by heatsink, corrupted memory, video card, psu, mo... Read more

I have searched many forums, including Microsoft's, and have read various reports of problems streaming video after SP2 has been installed, but have found no solutions. HELP! This is driving me nuts. It doesn't seem to be a universal problem, but in the cases I found, we all have the same symptom: After installing SP2, streaming video with WMP10 no longer works (it just stalls out while trying to connect). If given the option to choose RealPlayer, streaming video will work. So, it appears it's a conflict between WMP10 and SP2. I tried rolling back to WMP9, as it worked for some, but it did not work for me.

Hello. I've got a Lenovo G585 that's about 4 months old. I've already had a few problems with it but they just seem to fix themselves.. But for about a month now, I go on youtube and try to stream a video, and my internet cuts off immediately! Literally. I can't go on any website after this, all I can do to fix this is turning my computer on and back on. I tried logging out but that doesn't change anything. It's very annoying because everytime this happens I have to drop everything I was doing to restart my computer. You could tell me "Just don't go on youtube" Buut I love youtube and I use it quite a lot. Please help! Thank you

Answer:G585 Video Streaming Problem

hi itszoegee,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

What you're encountering is really weird as your internet connection just cuts off when you go to youtube. Perhaps you have a security software that automatically locks down your internet connection when you access certain websites? It'll also be helpful to know if your IP address gets change, the security software that you use, or the internet goes from Internet Access to Limited Connectivity during the incident.

Also, try to boot in Safe Mode with Networking and see if the problem persists (this will isolate the issue of a third party software that might be causing the issue)

Let me know your findings,

Hey,

I'm trying to watch an online stream on http://www.theyoungturks.com/ (the one on the homepage). However, I always get a problem where it just doesn't load. WMP tries to open it but stops after about 10 seconds. Sometime the stream works perfectly though, which perhaps means its not WMPs fault, but theres something wrong with the computer. I've tried searching for a solution, but nothing is working. Any tips?

I'm using XP media centre.

Hi, i got this new computer about 3 weeks ago. When i watch streaming (twitch.tv mostly), sometimes it will freeze my browser for 5sec-10sec (but the sound is still going) and come back after. When i try to watch it in 720p or HD, it will lag but only the video 1/2 of the time, while the sounds is just fine.

I updated all my drivers and reinstalled my firefox/chrome.

Over 720p will work for 15mins then starts lagging like crazy. A

Also, when i open anything (i think with ''Flash'') my browser will freeze for 5sec. The chat from twitch.tv beside the video will take for ever to load and make my browser lag.

Thank you.
