Where does Windows Update store the updates in XP?

Question: Where does Windows Update store the updates in XP?

I need to format the HDD and re-install XP. But I don't want to have to download all the updates again. So how do I save the downloaded files before I format?Cheers

Preferred Solution: Where does Windows Update store the updates in XP?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Where does Windows Update store the updates in XP?

Hey,

Just installed a clean boot from an ISO I made via the official download and everything is great apart from downloading - its really slow and seems to take ages downloading any upgrades from the Windows update section or even the metro updates ?

What gives any anyone else had this problem - solutions?

Cheers

Answer:slow downloads from windows update and app store updates

Hi,
I am having the same problem. I went to download some apps and hit the update button on the existing apps. That was 3 hours ago and nothing has changed. All the apps still say downloading.....

Any idea why they are not downloading? I have a fairly quick download speed. Hour long episodes download in around 10 minutes.

My Windows 8 Pro Store lists 4 available App updates: music, video, games and mail. When I select STORE and chose to update, the apps attempt to download and install the updates. They have failed to update for 4 days now. The error codes are either 0x80070002 OR 0x80246007.

I have previously downloaded and followed the instructions for apps.diagcab, rebooted. Nothing seems to resolve my inability to update these recently released App updates.

I have not installed any new software. My other Apps, including Bing, News and Finance continue to list current updates without any exceptions.

Whenever I attempt to open music, games, video and mail, they fail to open and revert back to START.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Is Microsoft aware of this issue and attempting to resolve it? Thank you.

Hello, I am trying to figure out why Windows Updates suddenly stopped working in Dec 2015...This is my sons laptop HP G60 235DX and I've corrected several issues, but cant figure this one out. Started with screen backlight issue, changed screen...noticed prompt at bootup asking to allow VZ something to update...he said was related to some app to pull data off his old phone, so I removed the app. Activated Norton 360 key and ran scans...nothing found. Researched issue with updates not working..everything I found said possible virus, or missing/corrupt registry keys. Downloaded Malware Bytes and ran that...found 171 occurrences of some junk..."ASK" somthing so deleted all that. Downloaded CCleaner and ran that to clean up reg keys. Still wont update so continued researching and finally found your posts on similar issues. I've run System Update Readiness Tool, Fixit Tool, and SFC Fix. Narrowed down to 17 errors with Component Store, but not sure what to do with them: CheckSUR.txt attached. SFCfix log just references these 17 errors, so I didnt upload it. I even went so far as to check updates on my Win 7 SP1 laptop and try to force once update using MS manager....Now walla...miraculously I am getting a msg stating that updates are avail, so I'm gonna try to pull a few of them and will update with status whether they are installed or fail. Hi, I have a problem with a Windows 10 store on my desktop PC. This is not a phone.
I have the latest build 10240 with all of the updates installed. The last few updates installed over last night and then my Store app stopped working.
I searched reddit and found some guys have a similar problem:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/3ej38n/store_update_stuck_on_00mb/
The thing was that when I tried to open the Store app this morning I've got a message: Before you can shop, we need to update the Store
I then pressed Update button and then It tries to update the Store app.
But then it just says Pending and it doesn't do anything for the whole day now.
I think there must be some other applications waiting for an update and they all got stuck.
Does any have any idea how to open the store?

Answer:Windows 10 Desktop (not for phones) Store update pending. How can I open the store?

Exactly the same problem here in New Zealand on 2 machines. 10240 is installed on both PCs and they simply refuse to download any data from the store that will perform the store update. One PC is sitting on the "pending" which the other gets a little further to "0.0 MB of 40.1 MB...". It is only a few days until official launch so these basic bugs really ought to have been sorted by now :-(

I'm tired of downloading them over and over on our crappy Internet here at work. I found a hidden folder in Program Files called "WindowsUpdate" but nothing is inside there.

Anyone have any idea where Automatic Download stores them? Or if it's even possible to copy them over to an external or something?

Thanks for the help!

Answer:Where does Windows XP store updates?

If an update has already been downloaded, Windows Update will detect it and show the file as 0k on WU screen.

What are you doing to cause to have to download and/or reinstall them all the time?

Is anyone else finding the store nothing short of hopeless with regard auto app updates. The process works because some apps do update. But the amount of times they also get stuck is ridiculous. I'll often go into the store on my PC and sometimes manually do a check for updates. But as I go to the downloads and updates tab I quite often see a couple of apps stuck updating at 0.1 and nothing seems to bump the along (even exiting the store) unless I press the cross to stop it and then recheck for updates whereupon said updates will re appear and I can initiate a manual update which seems to work. I notice the actual native MS apps are the most prone. I even got offered an update for Twitter which was stuck. I don't even have that one installed! It just seems plain buggy to me. Do you think I am better off turning auto updates off

I'm not sure if it's a Surface 3 specific issues and the S3 has been one problem after another on Win 10 but my store downloads and Windows Update downloads just seem to get stuck and never complete. WU never gets off of "Waiting for download".
Every so a store update may start to download. It can take a good 4 to 8 hours, if at all, for all the updates to process. If a download does start it seems to run normally.
Checking my task manager shows the CPU and network are mostly sitting idle.
I've cleared out the SofrwareDistribution folder but it hasn't helped any.

Answer:Both Store and Windows Updates stuck

I had this same issue (I didn't realize that the store updates didn't work either until reading this) and managed to fix it with the steps below.
Google "trouble installing microsoft surface and windows updates" (I would give the link but I don't have enough posts) and click the result that matches this. Go to the section about manually downloading the updates and follow the instructions. I had to restart my computer several times for it to work (once for the manual update and once because my Internet adapter malfunctioned), but afterwards, all the updates started downloading.

I just upgraded my OS to Windows 10 from 8.1 a few days back, and the Windows Store is the only thing giving me issues at the moment.

It shows the Progress Bar of the download but frequently it just stays at 0.0MB / ???? MB downloaded for the apps and doesn't move at all. I tried to clear the Windows Store Cache even the command prompt of sfc/scannow (sfc/scannow says no integrity violation) but still there was no progress.

I tried googling for answers but none to avail as most of it are for windows 8.1. So if have any tips to solve it, it will be much appreciated. Thanks

Answer:Windows Store not Downloading Updates

Got the same problem and tried already several solutions, which are mostly applicable for Windows 8/8.1 btw.

- Troubleshooter doesn't find anything wrong
- Did delete several times the SoftwareDistribution-folder, after disabling the services (BITS, CryptSvc and Wuauserv) and enabling again
- Disabled some services via msconfig and restarted, but also that didn't help.
- Did even uninstall all McAfee-software (which was crap anyway)

Thanks, I'm sure I'll have good use for that thread. Until now I used to just look around the store (Window(s) shopping ?) but it has so many APPs in there so have to check just for interesting sounding ones.
Apart from few games, just couple of days ago, I installed VLC player APP and it's pretty good although with less options than in desktop version. It's good enough for fast opening of MM files so I made it as default player.

So, just discovering that with Windows 8 modern apps (Metro apps), when a new user logs into a machine for the first time, the default set of Windows 8 modern apps are installed (including the old version). Then, each person who subsequently logs in has to run the updates from the store to get onto the latest versions.

What is the Microsoft thinking here? We want to build a master image, update it (including any store apps), and then have it deployed in an updated state for all users.

But as we found out the hard way, you don't update store apps before you run sysprep or you are in not going to be able to even run sysprep to capture the image;
Sysprep fails if Metro Apps have been "updated"

Then, on a machine that is used by multiple people, each has to update the store apps on a per user basis? Really??? Are Windows updates on a per user basis, no. Are service packs on a per user basis, nope. What the hell Microsoft.

Hello, since last fast ring insider update my App updates are stuck in windows store and won't install. All I get is an error that doesn't help me any further with my online search. I already restarted my device and canceled the update's and started them again without any success. Anybody got an idea? I don't want to factory reset unless I really have too ?

Answer:App updates are stuck in windows store

I am on insider fast aswell and at first it was the same for me (all updates failed) but then I just paused the few that were ongoing and the rest updated then, including the ones I paused. I did press check for updates again though, just in case. Maybe you could retry to update the apps one more time, if it doesn't work then maybe just signing out and then signing back to store may help.

Hello, Everyone -

Please forgive me if this has already been asked in a thread, but I did search through the forums quite a bit and could not find anything pertaining to this.... So again, I apologize if I am being repetitive...

Can anyone shed some light on a strange issue?

Currently, I have an ExoPC with Windows 8 RP 32-bit, a Dell Inspiron Duo with Windows 8 RP 32-bit, and also a Dell Latitude E6520 (i7 quad-core) with Windows 8 RP 64-bit.

I use the same Live ID to log-in to these machines at various times.

I have the exact same apps installed on all three, and I keep all three synced with my Live ID.

Normally, updates are never an issue. But recently, in the Store Metro UI Icon, it indicated that there was 1 update to an app. I would launch the Store, and on the Store main page in the upper right corner, it did indeed indicate that 1 update was available. Then, when I click on the "1 update available" link on that page, the next page of the Store loads, and inidicates "App updates - No updates available." and the only option is the back-arrow icon to go back.

This happened on all three devices, as I would log on to them at various times. The same message.

Well, now this is up to showing that 3 apps need updating, but when I follow the link I get the same message - "App updates - No updates available." and the only option is the back-arrow icon to go back. And, this is now on all three of my devices.

So - what on earth am I doing... Read more

I have Windows 10 on PC and Laptop and I found out that two Widnows Store updates ago I made on PC, Windows Store stopped working good, since in the opening screen it does not have small banners of individual apps as it should be but it has only greyed and empty big boxes. When I press button Games on the top, it shows pictures on same game banners but more than a half boxes are still greyed out and empty. Yes I did try wsreset.exe and Powershell trick to fix it, but nothing worked. I recently submitted Feedback about it, but it still not working as it has worked before.

On Laptop I did not make Windows Store update and it still works good, everything showed up correctly as it should.

Could someone confirm this issue and possibly give some direction to fix it if it is possible at all or to ask from Microsoft to make another Windows Store Update which will be working good.

Thank you.

Hi dzigibau.

You might try the in place replace / upgrade. This will upgrade you to V1703, just an FYI.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

Before trying diagnostic procedures I always recommend that you create a backup of your data off machine, create an Image with a tool like Macrium Reflect and have bootable media that matches your current Windows environment.

Answer:Why are all my windows store apps updates stuck at 0.0 mb?

Hello and Welcome to Windows Central,
I have experienced this but only for a few moments - it's possible that the servers are currently busy with the release of the Windows 10 to users worldwide. You may try any of the following:
- wait a little while, e.g. around 30 minutes, before trying again
- restart the Store App
- restart your PC
Should you wish to provide us with more details or ask further questions, please don't hesitate to create a Windows Central account and respond to this thread.

I'm running Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview Build 17063.rs_prerelease.171213-1610. Starting with the last release (I don't know the number. It was the one that I received immediately after that Fall release was official), the Windows Store (Is it called the Microsoft Store, now?) is completely missing. If I try to launch any Windows Store apps, they're missing as well. This includes the calculator and the feedback hub.If I type "calc" into Cortana and click on the "Calculator+HD: Install App" that appears, I get the message: "You'll need a new app to open this: ms-windows-store". If I go into settings:Windows Insider Program and click on the "Give us feedback" link, it says "You'll need a new app to open this: feedback-hub"I thought that perhaps the first preview after the Fall release had the store intentionally absent for updates. I it seems strange that it would still be missing with the latest update and that the Feedback Hub is missing from the Insider's Program.I have tried numerous things that I have found online, including WSReset.exe, without any changes in the problem.

I go to Metro Store because it shows there are 3 to update: Skype, Norton Studio and Kindle.None of these applications appear in Control Panel's Uninstall Program list nor are they found in the Programs folder.I don't know why the updates are being offered and don't want to install the apps.Anyone know how to get it to stop offering the app updates?I searched Google and Here but find nothing related.(It is possible that this HP Pavilion came with Norton Studio and was removed on day 1 but find no remnants of it)

Answer:Windows store offers updates for apps not installed

These applications may be on the All apps start menu. Right-click a blank portion on the start menu and click show all apps on the right bottom corner. Now carefully scrutinize all the apps that are installed. These app may not be in the Program Files folder ( and/or Program Files (x86) Folder ).You may stop the updates being offered. All Windows 10 lovers,
I just got an update of windows 10 on my Lumia 535. I found few issues. I hope i'll get some solutions here.
Problem: When i visited into Store -> Downloads and Updates, it shows me list of all the apps which needs to update. But the worst part is that there is no way to view/find out that what is the updates available for a specific application. I tried long press on the list, but no luck.
Please let me know, if anyone has any other way to get the updates information.

I have noticed over the past 4 weeks that my Windows Store App Live tile displays a number of updates for example 19 - when you go into the store and click on updates there may be only 14 or 15 updates.

I know changes have been made to Skype updates and this is no longer available to update via the app - have there been any other changes I should be aware of? This is not just on one device but 4 in the same household. None of the Live tiles display the number of updates actually being available?

Previously the live tile and actual updates available have always matched?

Confused and would appreciate any help

Thank you

Hi everybody.
I have searched now for the last 4 hours every forum, but I did not find a solution. I just bought today a lumia 550 with windows 10 (10.0.10586.0).
If I want to download an app from the store (e.g. whatsapp) the download starts but than it remains at 0.0. However the connection is good, I can surf in the internet, update my mails, etc. but the store downloads don't work.
Does anybody have a solution? I?m pretty desparate. I also did the region and time setting thing, but it didn?t help

If someone knows about a registry edit or a group policy for this, please do share.

Read more at Microsoft will separate Edge browser updates from the Windows 10 OS with Redstone 3

Chrome is updated frequently and seamlessly by Google; however, Microsoft's Edge browser is only updated - aside from security updates - in new feature builds of Windows 10, which only happens twice per year.

But according to internal sources, that's all going to change in September, when the next feature update to Windows 10, codenamed Redstone 3, is released. Users will finally be able to get updates to the Edge browser via the Windows Store, which will allow Microsoft to add new features more frequently.

Answer:Edge Browser Updates to be delivered via Windows Store from September

It sounds like a good idea, but if it a manual update how many average home users will search the store updates. Microsoft needs to make it more automated I think.

Hello!
It looks like some new issue because there is new thread in Microsoft support with more and more people reporting this.
OneDrive, Dropbox, Creative Cloud (Adobe) and Mail app, Skype, Windows Store and Update is not connecting to the network only in affected wifi network. Web browsers are working like always.
I'm sure it's source might be on Microsoft side or in router because it affects all Windows PC/laptops in one wifi network, everything works fine just when you connect to different wifi (from smartphone for example) or sometimes for few minutes after router is reset or when I change router DNS.
Store gives 0x800704cf error, same for Windows Update, OneDrive sometimes shows 0x8004de40 and that is how I got to thread where more and more people are reporting this: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...f-56517a0e6d57
Is there any hope for us? :( What could be wrong, maybe MS is just limiting our services somehow but why router might be a target? I have to say that all my content is legal and from decent sources (Netflix, YouTube, Showmax), all software is legit + OneDrive is premium.
BTW: Europe, Poland but I see that people from different countries are affected.

Every night I wake up to my PC being in sleep mode because Windows has decided to update my PC during the night. The only problem is I end up losing any work or downloads I had going during the night, I put Steam on and oh look I'll have to wait to play a game I was downloading. The other night I was uploading WoW Classic client to my friend and oh look it cancelled. Windows 10 has no respect for anything that you're doing, it just forces these updates on you... some of which give you driver issues, I use a specific driver for Rainbow Six Siege as the game is broken for me, but oh look Windows don't care...
I use the store to play Gears or Forza, however disabling these updates then kills that off as they're stupidly forced online play and require the latest update like the anniversary update which breaks my mic and sound drivers.
I just want to be able to turn automatic updates off and manually install them myself.

As the title says, I have problems with Windows Update. I tried some fixes like: Reset_Reregister_Windows_Update_Components, Reset_Windows_Update_History, MicrosoftFixit50362 (which is a Microsoft Installer Fixer that couldn't install PowerShell), MicrosoftFixit50202. But what I really need is installing .NET Framework 4. I tried forcing it to install, installing it step by step, but it couldn't go further than .NET Framework 3.5. I need that Framework, the other updates don't really matter. And the interesting thing is that my antivirus doesn't say that Windows is not up-to-date, which is not normal, in ESET Smart Security, if Windows is not up-to-date.
If specs matter:

Answer:Windows Update stuck at Checking for Updates and can't install Updates manually

Hi antoniu200:

Many other Vista users have reported that Windows Update seems to get stuck at "Checking for updates..." for long periods of time, and this problem dates back to the August 2015 Patch Tuesday updates - see my screenshots in ScousaJAY's thread windows update just seems to hang while checking in the VistaForums. This month's December 2015 Patch Tuesday updates required a full hour on my machine before it finished the  "Checking for updates..." phase and finally presented a list of available updates, so you might want to try running a manual Windows Update and leaving your computer alone for an hour or so to see if it eventually runs to completion.

You might also want to read Nikilet's recent thread Updates were not configured correctly in that same forum.  Some Vista users, including myself, received an error message this month stating "Updates were not configured correctly. Reverting changes. Please do not turn off your computer" when they tried to install the December 2015 Patch Tuesday updates.  Six updates for the Vista OS and one cumulative update for IE9 were marked as "Failed" on my machine after Windows forced an automatic rollback and re-boot of my machine.  I re-ran Windows Update today and all Important updates that failed yesterday eventually installed successfully ("Checking for updates..." still took about one hour and I declined one Recommended update KB3112148 for Vista and one Optional update KB3106614 for Silver... I recently (one week ago) made myself a dual-boot to Windows Vista SP2. I installed everything I needed and set the Windows updates to Automatically install updates. When I needed to make a video smaller (no need to talk about this in this thread) on Handbrake it said I needed Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0. I was surprised to see that. I went to see what Windows updates does and it wasn't checking for updates, as I set it to do. I started the check myself. I left it like that 30 minutes. When I closed my game, it was in the same state: checking for updates. So, I went to my .NET Framework 4 installer and, after 15 minutes, it gave an error: another installer is running. There were no installers, besides Windows update. So, I closed its process and let the installer run. After 15 minutes, it gave me an error (I don't remember the name of the error, I'll post it ASAP). So, I started researching, tried everything (MS FIXIT 50202, reset windows update history, reregister windows update components which gave me error 1060 and error 5 - error 5 is after trying MS FIXIT). I tried to "force" the .NET Framework 4 install by installing it step-by-step: 1.1  1.1 SP1  3.5  4. No succes. I AT LEAST need to install that .Net Framwork somehow. And the most interesting part is that my antivirus doesn't say that my OS is not up-to-date . SPECS: 6GB RAMAMD Athlon ll X4 750K 3.2-4.0 GHzAMD Radeon R7 240 4GB GDDR3

This girl on our floor is getting all of the symptoms of the good ole blaster worm and it's 1 minute to reboot issues. I figured I could just windows update until I fix it.
So I install the updates. They install fine, no errors, and windows update says they're installed. Reboot, the same updates are listed. Try once again, and again it says the same ones are listed after I reboot. So I try through automatic updates, and, once again, the same thing. The updates just aren't installing besides saying that they are installed.
I then download the stand-alone blaster worm patch. Run it, and right after I click "I Agree" and hit next, the window just closes, no errors or anything. Try again, same thing. Try in safe mode, same thing.
I've never had a problem with this before, does anyone have any recommendations?

Answer:Windows Update installs updates, but they're still listed under updates

I had the same thing on a system I was working on. I ran Spybot and Ad-aware and cleaned off so much crap... But I had to let Spybot start at reboot to catch the app-killer. Try that and see if you can get those updates to take. It may be some nastiness in the box. Umm, no pun intended.

Dear All,

1. I asked a similar question recently on Apple Forum here.
2. I personally understand perhaps the reasoning, not to debate here. It does pose certain challenge in certain scenario. Just need to know more basis due to future work area deployment. If you need to ask, I only have one Windows 8 computer at work now and I have never touched that unit from start because the user is particularly sensitive towards that computer.

3. For Windows 8.1 (completely new device), is normal system /application software updates going through App Store? Do you need to enter credit card number in order to complete the update process? Or is it very similar to normal Windows 7 style traditional Windows Update?

Answer:Windows 8.1 App Store Update?

To update Win 8 to 8.1 you go through windows store, no credit card.

Win 8.1 updates go through Windows Updates.

hello i have update win 8 to windows 8.1 via windows store.i noticed today when cliking pc settings-restore &recovery-advance startup the option refresh and restore option isn't enable anymore.i see only these options:
1)shut down 2)logoff 3) advance startup.in microsoft community told me that if i dwonalod win 8.1 with windows store maybe the refresh -restore option isn't enable anymore .is that true?
1)can i downlaod win 8.1 without windows store?
2)with win 8 i choose refresh option or automatic repair by itself.now i need a disk for this job?sorry for my bad english

Answer:update win 8.1 from win 8 without windows store

you can download windows 8.1 setup media > http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...-refresh-media
you can choose to upgrade to windows 8.1 by running Setup.exe from within windows 8
or you can boot from the setup media and do a clean install of windows 8.1 (preferred method)

either way you will knock out the factory windows 8 recovery options

on-disk recovery is an OEM feature as windows does not set up the required image partition or capture the recovery image - so the setup media disk is required..
unless you create a recovery image and a recovery partition..

Okay now, today is October 18th and I've not got a Windows 8.1 update in store yet. I've Installed all the updates that were available for windows, restarted my PC several times but I still don't get it. What could be the reason and how do I get it?

Answer:Why don't I get a Windows 8.1 Update in store?

Have you checked with any of your friends locally to see if they have the update in the MS store? If not, then it's a problem with your country. If your friends, locally, have it then it could be any number of things....internet blockage, a data cap from your ISP, your computer and it goes on.

Is there something specifically from MS about your Country as to what version of the OS you get to install?

Seems like a minor thing, but it's driving me up the pole. Any advice is welcome. On all of my PCs save one the store live tile shows at boot, as it should, and works fine. On one, however (was clean installed at W10 release), the tile usually launches with no live tile content. It won't get the content either, however long I leave it to sit, unless I run up the app and switch off live tile updates in the app settings, then exit the settings page, then return to the app settings page and re-enable tile updates. Then they update straight away.
I can then even reboot if I want and the live tile will (usually) still be showing. After a while though, it'll revert back to an inactive basic plain tile with no live content requiring the same process again.
All other live tiles work fine (weather tile needs a jab very occasionally but that's always been the case with Windows). I have tried the trouble shooters for both apps and store as advised for W8 (not much W10 guidance available), tried turning the background task on and off, tried removing and re-adding the tile and the tile's live on/off switch (which doesn't even temp solve the issue like the in-app setting does), no luck.
With any other app I'd just uninstall and reinstall it. Does anyone know how to fix the store tile? Or anything I can try? There's no way I'm going to reinstall the whole of Windows because I can't uninstall and reinstall one app, that's just not sensible, so what can be done? Any way to delete the app file... Read more

I just ran a full system driver scan using this program, Driver Agent - http://driveragent.com/affiliate/aida64_b.php?ref=794. It has reported 114 drivers installed and 0 out of date or missing. Even the OEM doesn't have all the reported drivers I would have needed to sucessfully complete the upgrade. The windows device manager does not report any problems or missing drivers either. A little late on this report but, just saying what I have and it has primarily been supplied by Microsoft. As far as I am concerned, great job MS and windows 10.

Hello everybody.

I've got windows 8.1 with the yesterdays update but the problem comes before this update.

Wen I open the Windows Shop, it always on the green screen and does not advance. I've done the following steps: 1 - I did WSReset.exe as administrator but the store is always like this. If you close and re-open the store, I get the same green screen;
2 - I downloaded the tool Windows 8 App Troubleshooter which tells me that I have an outdated graphics driver. Is not true because I have installed the latest version.
3 - UAC is turned on but without success;
4 - I've turned my account as a local account and tried to open the shop but with the same result. I've reverted my account as linked to Microsoft.
5 - I created a new user account and with that account the store opens. I returned to my account and nothing.
6 - Finally I ran the SFC / SCANNOW and gave me this picture.
Does anyone know how I can solve my problem

Thank you, kodiak

do i need to install the store windows 8.1 update ?
as shown in another thread this looks like it has the update
advice required pls.

Answer:Do i need to install the windows 8.1 update from store ?

You don't get Windows 8.1 Update from the "Store". It was released through Windows Update.

Have you checked Windows Update for new updates? If updates are listed, look for KB9219355; which is the Windows 8.1 Update. Allow Windows Update to install all the updates shown (if there are any).

Looking at your screenshot, I don't see anything that tells me whether you have it or not. One way to tell if you already have the update, is to go to the Modern (gotta remember it's not Metro) interface and look for a power button and a search button. If you don't see either one, start typing "Windows Update" (without the quotes). If you don't see the buttons and/or can type there, you probably don't have the update.

easiest workaround I've found, is to uninstall the apps, make sure you mark down somehow what you own.. you'll need this list..

reboot the computer, load the app store, download the apps again.

it should download the app with no problem.

load the app as you would normally and have a nice day.

i upgraded from win 7 to win 10 in early august. no problems. i've been installing all updates since then and installed updates always showed status of updates. after installing fall update i noticed my update history was erased and any updates since, like defender definition files, don't appear in the list. only one update is listed: Security Update for Internet Explorer Flash Player for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3103688) installed on 11/14/2015.

Answer:Windows 10 fall update erased the Windows Update history plus new installed updates don't appear. What do I do?

I have exactly the same problem; no update history except the flash one.

Hello I have just upgraded to Windows 10, and I was trying to install Netflix and Skype and both of them weren't downloading. Then I clicked on the download icon in the top right and it showed a lot of downloads pending and a few were "Downloading" it said how big the install was and the progress. 0.0MB even after waiting it didn't go up a bit.

The situation:
I have an Ethernet connection directly to my router. I use windows 10 64 Bit version Home. I live in the Netherlands but in order to use Cortana changed Region to United states.
I have tried changing it back to Netherlands seeing if that would change anything but it didn't

I hope someone can help me fix this problem or let me know if it is a known bug.

Thanks in advance,
Pygesux

-=Edit=-
I have left the store running for a few hours now. Still nothing but I did get a message with a few apps "Give us a few minutes"
And when I click see details it shows an error code 0x8024001e

Answer:Can't download and update anything using the store in Windows 10 Home

Same thing here: 50MB cable connection (using WiFi). Other programs have no trouble downloading at high speeds, Windows Store just hangs there. I can browse it and choose apps, but they never download. Updates are also not downloaded.
I've tried pausing all pending downloads (4) and restarting a new app download (Gmail Calendar), but the result is the same. It just hangs, waiting for nothing in particular.

Here?s a small tip:
If you are a Windows 8.1 user, you might have noticed that you are not seeing any app updates count on the Store Tile, that is no Store tile notification is seen. Because with Windows 8.1, store apps automatically update in the background & this feature its quite useful.
Earlier in Windows 8 one used to get Store tile notification as and when any of your installed Store app got any updates.
In Windows 8.1, Store is by default configured to automatically download and update the app. And many of us prefer this as we know that our apps will always be up-to-date. But for those interested in what?s and which apps were updated will have no idea with such auto update. But we can turn off this default auto update of Store app feature.
So for this Open Windows Store , from Charms settings> App updates
and set ?Automatically update my apps? to No

Answer:Disable Store App Auto-update in Windows 8.1

No reason to disable auto-update - but useful if you are travelling or on a data plan!
Thanks for the tip!

I'm having a little trouble getting some updates to install. I think the downloaded updates may be corrupted, as the install always fails. I did a little googling, but have not been able to come up with the answer I need. Can anyone tell me in which directory and folder they are stored?

Thanks!

Can anyone tell me why this review was blocked on Windows App Store for violating the Windows Store Terms of Use?
Original review for Windows 8.0 - My review for the Microsoft Music application after an update removed a feature -
Apparently there was an update that removed the full screen animation for now playing. To bad, that feature set it apart from the others. Now this app is just like any other Ho Hum player.

After update to Windows 8.1 there was an update to the application so I updated my review which was blocked for violating Windows Store Terms of Use -

Seriously - Advertisements while I play music I own, I don't think so. Everyone keeps saying how Zune was much better. Zune is still available so I will go back to Zune until you get real.

Hi

It is possible update for all users the Windows Store apps with a local account belonging to the Administrators group?

Then, I believe that the management of updating of the Windows Store apps can also be managed only by administrators. Right? If so, how do I do this?

Thanks

Bye

Answer:Update the apps of Windows Store for all users

Hello Balubeto,

Store apps are owned by each specific user account, and must be updated in each specific account as well. User accounts do not share Store apps, so they can not be updated for all users from another account.

However, Store apps have automatic updating turned on for all users by default.
Windows Update - Automatic Updating - Turn On or Off in Windows 8
You could disable or enable the ability of all users to turn on or off automatic download of app updates though.
Store - Enable or Disable Automatic Download of Updates in Windows 8

Hope this helps some,
Shawn

Windows Store won't launch. I had it open, checked for updates (I have pro and it set to not install them automatically). It found an update for the actual store so I pressed to download. It went through it's thing and then closed the window automatically. I then tried to relaunch it but it just flashes for a mili second and refuses to open. What should I do?

I logged in with my wife's user id and it is launching ok from hers. It's my user id that is creating the problem! Trouble is I cannot start using a new id as everything is setup for mine.

Thanks
Wayne

Answer:Windows Store won't open after update this morning

What a nightmare but I think I got somewhere. All can say is NEVER try and update the store like this when open. I tried the tutorial on repairing the store using the BAT file. Just got far worse as store corrupted for all user accounts. Luckily a restore point from last week got me back in business. Although the other users were still corrupt. As they are seldom used I removed these family accounts and later recreated new users for them. All seems ok.

then I changed store updates setting back to auto. I think the store update then silently installed in the background and things seem OK.

Hello all...
I had finished updating the Windows Store app on my laptop, usually after the update, store immediately closed itself, and wait for about 5 minutes, and finished ...
But why, I now want to reopen it always force close? Only up splash screen, without error code, and force close
There is a solution other than in reset?
Thanks :)

Answer:Windows Store force close after update

Press and hold Windows key and R on your keyboard. In Run menu type wsreset.exe and hit enter.

After a recent Windows Store app update, when opening the Store it always reports at least one app is available for download and update even when there are no app updates available. When there are apps available, the number of available updates is always one more than the actual number available.

This occurs on my desktop, Surface Pro 4, and my Windows Phone (Lumia 950XL). Is anyone seeing this mismatch?
