Virtual device driver failed Dll initialisation

Question: Virtual device driver failed Dll initialisation

Periodically, I get a message which states:C:\Progra~1\Symantec\S32EVNT1.DLLAn installable Virtual Device Driver failed Dll initialisation. Choose close to terminate the application.I think this happens when my screen saver starts.i have recently uninstalled Norton antivirus as I was getting problems with my PC looping on shut down, I believe this was due to "common client" updates not installing.Any ideas please?

Preferred Solution: Virtual device driver failed Dll initialisation

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, guys.

When I want to install certain programs, there is a set of error messages that makes the installation fail. They're as follows:

"c:\PROGRA~1\Symantec\S32EVNT1.DLL. An installable Virtual Device Driver failed Dll initialization. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application."

If I push "ignore" then this message appears:

"c:\Windows\system32\autoexec.nt. The system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. Choose 'close' to terminate the application."

I have a feeling that this is caused by a Norton antivirus program I installed couple years ago that I had a heck of a time removing. Could there be a chance that some parts of the program is still lingering to cause this?

I've been having this problem for the longest times and threw away a bunch of software because I simply couldn't install them. It's soooo frustrating. Please help!

Answer:Error Message: virtual device driver failed Dll initialization

It's a fairly common problem with an easy fix.

Download and run the file in this post from Elvandil:

http://forums.techguy.org/2178768-post2.html

It will fix the second error -- I'm not sure about the first.

I had Norton Internet Security 2006 on my PC, uninstalled it and also ran the Norton Removal Utility (Ver.2008.0.1.19)

When I try to install a program, (Presto PageManager 7.15), at the end of the install I got 2 error messages:
The 1st is "AddPrinter Error: 1796".

The 2nd is related to Symantec: (16 bit Windows Subsystem)

?C:\progra~1\Symantec\S32EVNT1.DLL. An installable Virtual Device Driver Failed DLL initialization. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.?

I?ve researched the problem extensively. It relates to registry key Virtual Device Driver VDD. I tried to delete the key, delete the data value, etc. Nothing helps. When I remove Page Manager & try to reinstall I still get Error messages telling me the Virtual Device Driver is not setup properly or it?s data is wrong.

Below is my HJT log file.
Please let me know what I need to do.

Try running SymNRT, the Norton Removal Tool from Symantec. It works better than any of the 3rd party Norton removers. It may be too late, but it might still be able to clean up any remnants. Get it here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/Norton_Removal_Tool_SymNRT_d4749.html You should probably also run a registry cleaner. CCleaner has proven itself both safe and effective; run both the disk cleaner and the registry cleaner using default settings and be sure to save the reg when prompted by CCleaner (just in case ). You'll be required to reboot after SymNRT (if it runs), and you should probably reboot after CCleaner. Then retry your installation. Download CCleaner from here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_Slim_No_Toolbar_d4191.html

....and Welcome to Major Geeks! :major

Hi.

Just cleaned my computer in the security section. The thread was

http://www.techsupportforum.com/showthread.php?t=116081

After cleaning a problem came out and they told me to post in this section for solving this other problem.

Basically when I shut down/log off my computer, a Dell Latitude D610 running win XP (with Dell stuff in it), shows me the following message:

In the header (title) of the window:
"dwwin.exe. DLL initialisation Failed"

In the window:
"The application failed to initialize because the window station is shutting down."

Moreover, when cleaning up system restore as suggested by the Fred in the other topic I get for 4 times the same error message when I right-click on My Computer --> Properties. The message is:

Header: "runddll32.exe - Unable To Locate Component
Body: "This application has failed to start because framedyn.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

After hitting OK 4 times, I get the property window. Then, when checking System Restore off (in order to turn it off and delete all previous restores as suggested by Fred) and then Apply I get "System Restore encountered an error trying to enable/disable one or more drives. Please restart your machine and try again."

Obviously the thing persists when rebooting.

Can you please help?

Thank you very much in advance.

Answer:dwwin.exe. DLL initialisation Failed

Run the System File Checker

Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc /scannow ( sfc if not reconized) (Note that there is a space between sfc and /scannow)

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem.

In all likelihood you will be prompted to insert the Windows XP CD.

Tried to turn on my laptop tonight, and got the blue screen. Have googled what I can and I think it is due to some sort of virus. So far have been able to start windows in safe mode but any kind of scan (AVG 8, Malware bytes, CC Cleaner has crashed. System restore didnt work either going back two weeks.

No, now wont start in safe mode either, just sits there after a certain point. Same file each time. ANY help would be apprieciated! Thanks

Hi - yesterday I tried to install some software which Eon, my power company, sent me. It wouldn't install and threw up a message, 'Microsoft SQL server setup has encountered a problem and will end'. At Eon's request I sent a screen dump of the various messages and they said they'd tell me what to do. This morning, on starting up, I get the message, 'Sql dumper library failed initialisation. Your installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with. Please uninstall then rerun setup to correct this problem'.Rerun what? Is it serious? How do I get rid of the message? Will a system restore cure it?Please! So many questions...

Answer:SQL dumper library failed initialisation

System Restore to before you installed the Eon software.

Hi - Can anyone help

My netbook is only two weeks old and the webcam was working perfectly, but now I am getting the following error message on startup: "Webcam initialisation failed".
I have tried reloading the driver, but this does'nt work. Also I cannot see the webcam appearing in the device manager?

Any suggestions would be gratefully received - Thanks

Answer:NB250-108 - Webcam initialisation failed

Hey,

Hmm? It seems that something has muddled up the webcam driver?

You wrote that you have reinstalled the driver but how? In your case I would remove the driver from control panel > Uninstall software and then restart the computer. Now run ?CCleaner? and check for registry issues and clean it (very useful and freeware tool). Restart again and install latest webcam software from official Toshiba website.

By the way: What OS you have?

Hi, I just bought a new Toshiba laptop. The guy at the store loaded Windows 7. When I got home there were more things to enter such as Username, computer name etc. I set the date and time, username and pc name and shut it off to go to bed. This morning the first thing that showed was a box that said something to the effect 'Inialisation failed....go to events log.' I pushed 'OK'. Now all I have is a blank screen. I don't have a clue as to what 'events log' is, what is does, how to get it up etc. I really need to get the laptop up and running. Please help!! Thank you in advance for any help!! Best Regards - Nazarene

Answer:Initialisation failed loading Windows onto new PC

You will be unable t get to the event viewer as you do not seem to have access to the desktop for a start.I would have thought that the simplest solution would be to take the laptop back and have them reinstall windows, but this time make sure all is working before leaving the supplier.

Hi all,

I cannot get the integrated webcam to start.
I have downloaded and installed the latest bios and webcam drivers from the toshiba website which promted the cam to start to initialise.

Now i have an error which says "webcam initialisation failed, please check your device...."

The problem is that there is no listing for the webcam on the device manager screen.
I am at a loss as to how i can get the webcam to work, any suggestions?

billy

Answer:Satellite C650-1CR - webcam initialisation failed

> The problem is that there is no listing for the webcam on the device manager screen.
Usually the webcam should be listed in device manager under ?Imagine Devices?
In my case it?s USB Video Device? this is the usb Chicony webcam.

Do you have any unknown devices marked with yellow exclamation mark?
If yes, then this is probably the cam?

As last option, you could try to recover the notebook using Toshiba Recovery disk which you have created... hopefully...

Hi - I wonder if anyone has any advice on this particular problem.

I am trying to fix a Microsoft Windows XP computer for a friend. The only thing he can tell me is that it was working fine and the last thing he did was download iTunes which worked fine for a few days and then the computer developed the symptoms. he is not sure if he had anti-virus installed which probably means he didn't.

Anyway. The computer will not start up at all either in normal or safe mode. It just flashes up a BSOD so quickly that you can't read it and then goes back into the startup screen and repeats.

He hasn't got the original XP disc although he does have his key. So what I am trying to do at the moment is experiment with some official XP discs I have to see if his key will work with them. But I don't get that far.

When I try to load from windows I can get to the recovery console fine. But if I actually try and install windows I get a BSOD error.

It tells me session3_initialisation_failed and then gives a string of stop codes.

Can anyone suggest what might be the problem? The machine is about 4 years old and has never developed a problem before now.

Many thanks in advance.

I've just finished doing a boot time Avast scan on my nephew's laptop - but now after it finishes that and continues to load Windows, I get this message:

Sounds rather serious to me - can anyone help? I hope this doesn't involve having to send the machine away. I recently had to do a factory default reinstall as the system had stopped responding - no matter what I did (it started doing that after installing the Norton crap that came with it, so Norton's going nowhere near any system of mine in the future.

I'm going to try Windows' repair options, but I'm not too hopeful.

Edit:OK - after a couple of restarts (before trying Windows' repair options), Windows has loaded successfully. What could've caused this and what can I do to avoid it happening again?

Answer:Interactive logon process initialisation has failed

No one at all? Has this been posted in the right place, if not could a mod please move it? Thanks!

Hello everyone,
I was setting default to file extensions and came across a few in which I have no idea what they are for. I've googled them and all I find is 'malware' removal, and what the extension is, which I know that part, but I want to know what it's FOR.
.386 Virtual Device Driver
.a A File
AC3 File
.CRL (the default is Crypto Shell Extensions) is this correct?
.CRT ( ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ same as above)
.DRV (Device Driver)

I'll start with those, I don't want to list them all. ....Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much.

I have recently been given a new Satellite L750 Laptop with built in web camera as a gift by my parents, who live in the UK so I can keep in touch with them from Ireland. We had hoped to call each other via video calling but I cannot get the web camera in the laptop to work. When I click on the Web Camera Application a message appears saying " Web Camera Application Initialisation failed; restart computer or web camera."

I have tried downloading the web camera driver from the toshiba website and have updated the BIOS, but this has made no difference.

What can I do to get it working?

Answer:Satellite L750 - Integrated Web Cam - application initialisation failed

I presume you want to use Skype or some other messenger, right?
For this purposes you must not start preinstalled Webcam application. You can even disable it from start-up.

Can you please check if cam is recognized and listed properly in device manager and check if certain messenger recognizes cam.

Please post some feedback and we can continue this discussion.

Hello. I've recently installed a USB 2.0 card with a 4-way powered hub(supplied with the card)on my PC running XP Pro. I have my printer/scanner plugged into one socket on the card, and the hub into the other socket. Plugged into the hub is a joystick and a card reader. I have a problem in that the joystick, nine times out of ten, fails to initialise on startup, showing the exclamation symbol in Device Manager. I can disable/enable the joystick which solves the problem, but it would be nice not to have to do this. Could it be that the system is trying to initialise the joystick before the hub, or something like that? Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I am seeing several of these Warnings in the Event Viewer, Windows System logs. These are Event ID 219, Source Kernel-PnP.

That said, I am not experiencing any crashes, freezes, BSODs, and everything on my PC seems to be functional. So perhaps I can safely ignore these warnings, but I prefer to get to the bottom of something in case it will lead to problems in the future.

I have done some online research on this event, and none of the suggested fixes seem applicable to me. I have been vigilant in keeping all drivers on my machine up to date. I've checked, and there don't seem to be any newer drivers available for any of my hardware. I also have the Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework service set to "automatic" startup.

The details of this event are below.

Any suggested action to remedy my problem? Thanks!

I tried to update my older Radeon ATI 5450 GPU via windows update...

I received the message from windows update, and showed it failed update with the 0x800706be

However when I go to device manager and check the details of the installed driver it clearly shows the new updated version? So I wonder which is correct the device manager showing the new version of the driver or windows update?

Answer:Failed Update 0x800706be driver...but device mgr shows updated driver?

You can identify the problem using Device Manager, which you can access by:
Opening the Control Panel Window
Selecting and double-clicking System
Clicking Device Manager
In Device Manager check if there is an exclamation point, a yellow triangle, or a question mark against your Dell device. If there is, there is a problem with your Dell device.

Earlier today, I had my computer running as I always do. I left the room for about 15 minutes, and returned to find a blue screen. I don't remember everything written on the screen, but I do remember one line said something to the effect of "If this is your first time seeing this message, restart your system now." Another line said that if I had recently installed any new software or hardware, I should check it out. I haven't installed anything new in the last 2 weeks. At the bottom, it also read "Beginning physical memory dump." I restarted my system, and I began hearing a loud clicking noise followed by a very loud screeching noise. My first thought was that it was my hard drive. About 5 minutes after rebooting, the blue screen appeared again with the same message. At this point, I called the company that handles the warranty, and explained the situation. The system was going wild by now, clicking and screeching extremely loud. Then, something weird happened. The tech asked me to move the system to see if the fan in back was running. I moved it, and ever since that time, the screeching and clicking just stopped. It's been quiet now for the last 8 hours or so. I have absolutely no idea what happened, but out of that I discovered something else.

During our conversation, the tech had me run the command prompt "mem/d." The first time around, it popped up a message related to Symantec, which I uninstalled about 2 we... Read more

When I try to use disc mounting software, on Windows Vista 32 bit when I try to open a virtual disc, it comes up with an error. The heading is: 16 bit Windows Subsystem
The body is: SYSTEM\currentcontrolset\control\virtualdevicedrivers. Virtual Device Driver format in the registry is invalid. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

I have done some poking around the internet, and it sounds like the solution is to use regedt32.exe and find the VDD value in the registry and change it. I don't have regedt32.exe, but I used Regedit, and couldn't find that value in the registry at all. I can get to SYSTEM\currentcontrolset\control, but from there I don't have the virtualdevicedrivers folder.

I have been trying to resolve this issue for a while now. When I open a new window in IE 8.0.6001, I get the 16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem Pop Up box which I can close or ignore.

First the error was for the Virtual device driver format in the registry is invalid. I went to the MS article on recreating the VDD in the registery and followed directions numerous times. When done correctly, I get another 16 Bit Pop up with The NTVDM has encountered an illegal instruction error with various CS address errors.

In my reading, I know the NTVDM has a relationship with the VDD. This is confirmed by when I remove the VDD from registry, I get the original Vitual Device Driver pop up.

After exhaustive time reading and re-reading, I am not able to find a good solution short of a re-install, which I do not want to do. I want this annoying 16 Bit MS-DOS pop up to stop.

Running XP SP3, AVG, and scanned numerous times with S&D and Malwarebytes (ALL UPDATED)

Thanks!

Is this the error message:16-bit MS-DOS Subsystempath to the program that you are trying to start or installC:\Windows\System32\Autoexec.nt The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application. If so click here and scroll down to XP_FIX.EXE to download the fix.

Whilst trying to "De-Demo game" my cousins computer I think I got a bit carried away and deleted one file too many! It is a Compaq Presario 5456 466mhz, windows 98se ( never updated, never modified) machine.I used the Add/Remove utility on the conrol panel for most part, i installed Tweakui for other parts and then manual deletion from Explorer for the stubborn programs. The problem is with a virtual device driver scsi1hlp (version 4) Now every time i put in a cd/dvd into the drive i get the following Blue screen warning after a few seconds and i cannot eject the media or do a Ctrl + Alt + Delete closure:data cd=an Exception OE has occured at 0028:000000c4 in VxD ---. This was called from 0028: C1832738 in VxD scsi1hlp(03) + 00000508music cd =an exception OE has occured at 0028: c18327B3 in VxD scsi1hlp (03) + 00000583To remedy this, is it a simple case of renewing the driver from Microsoft or is this just the start of a cascade of "Blue screens"?

Answer:virtual device driver problems

Hi presidente. I've done a bit of research via Google. It appears that the loss of scsihlp.vxd shouldn't give any problem unless you have a scsi drive. If you need to, you should be able to replace the file from your Windows cd. I found a reference to almost exactly your error message in a Google translation of an Italian web site, but the advice given was that either a badly connected ide cable or a faulty cd drive was the most likely cause.

I am trying to open money matters software - (windows XP) and keep getting a message;

system/currentcontrolset/control/virtual devicedrive.vdd - vdd format in registry is invalid.

I have tried the regedt.32 route as advised - but couldn't delete what was there (default) and added reg_multi-sz and it still made no difference.

Could this be anything to do with the registry patrol software I paid for, downloaded etc to speed my pc up ? the techies there are not responding to my e-mails - help please before my wife commits homicide because we can't do our accounts

Answer:Virtual Device driver - notice

Are you using this program?
http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/image...2b4ae010.L.jpg
Notice it says requires Windows 95, 98, Me. It mentions nothing about pure 32-bit Windows OSes like NT 4, 2000, or XP. It must be really old.
You might still be able to run it though. Go to your program files folder and find where the program executable is at. Then right click it, and look under the compatibility mode tab. Try Windows 98 or 98SE and see if that works.

Alright here it goes.

Some time ago i installed a symantec security suite into my computer, i don't remember which one, i had to uninstall it manually because after the installation it did not work correctly and refused to uninstall in the add and remove programs.

After few reboots and fighting i finally got all the pieces of it out of my comp, and it had also taken the virtual device driver dll under its control - now i don't know what it exactly does, but i do know that now my 16-bit setups won't start.

I have tried removing the whole VirtualDeviceDrivers key in the HKLM\Sys\CCS\Control\ - i have tried to remove only the VDD multi string value in it, but this results in error message of it missing when i start to run a 16-bit installer - now if i recreate the key and the value i don't get the error of course but instead of giving error message it gives nothing.

When i start any 16-bit setup i have seen it start a process called ntvdm.exe for a second and then it closes instantly after starting up.

That's all the info i can figure out, and i'm running XP SP2.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Virtual device driver issue?

here is the explanation of that ntvdm.exe:

Windows NT Virtual DOS Machine (NTVDM) for running 16-bit tasks on the 32-bit OS's (Windows NT, 2K and XP). Required if hardware on a machine with these OS's needs 16-bit DOS drivers.

That is courtesy of http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php?filter=ntvdm.exe
as for your other problem i can't help wait for the expert

I got a Canon Printer which have no Vista support from official site which I wish to use it in W7. I know it's an old AIO printer but sometimes the scanner comes in handy, but problem is I only get hold of XP driver for it. I tried installed the Virtual XP mode beta and I try to setup my printer, but my driver setup won't go through, it said it can't detect my printer.

So just want to ask is it actually possible to install XP-only device in Virtual XP mode so I can use the device in W7 environment ? I didn't use much of Virtual PC so I am not quite sure. Thanks for any help !

Answer:XP-only driver/device in Virtual XP Mode ? Possible ?

Tell me the name of the driver file and let's see if we can force an install in Win7/Vista. Better yet, just send it to me.

I am new to vmachines, but it seems reasonable that the vmachine cannot use a device that the host cannot attach.

I am trying to run a program, which has worked fine for years on this PC and did up through 3/6/13, but on Friday began having this problem.

When I click on the program to open it all I get is a window popping up that says
"SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDri vers. Virtual Device Driver format in the registry is invalid. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application."

The window is titled "16 bit Windows Subsystem"

I have tried 'restoring", however the "restore" said it was unable to complete and that no changes were made.

This PC is running Windows Vista, the program is called Professional Real Estate.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Thanks,

Mike

This has been a problem for over a year now. 140+ identical PCs running identical images, with identical keyboards. Some have the problem, some do not, and it's incredibly unpredictable.

PCs are HP Compaq Elite 8300 SFF running Windows 7 x64 Professional.

People will be working at their PC, hear the USB disconnect sound, and their keyboard will become unusable for 30+ seconds.

Re-imaging the PC has no effect but that same image running on another PC with the same hardware can run without ever experiencing the problem. The system I use has not experienced the problem once in over a year.

I have rebuilt the image from scratch and pushed it out to a group of people experiencing the error. It seemed to resolve it for a few months and then the errors inexplicably came back. My PC started BSOD-ing a few days ago and now does it every few hours.

It starts with this error:

Then:

Hi,

Since the 11/18/2012 event viewer (Event ID 219, Task Category 212) has been posting a warning:

The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device WpdBusEnumRoot\UMB\2&37c186b&0&STORAGE#VOLUME#_??_USBSTOR#DISK&VEN (followed by name of USB device)

It only occurs on start up if I have a USB memory device plugged into a USB port. The USB memory device functions perfectly and the error never occurs when I plug in and out a memory device after boot up.

The error only occurs for memory devices like memory sticks, external USB hard drive does not cause this error.

Checking back to around the 11/18/2012 I see nothing that I have changed/installed that might indicate something that has caused this. No other Windows 7 failures or issues.

Booting a second hard drive with windows 7 on the same system (I have this second installation for testing faults etc), the issue does NOT occur.

From checking forums and searching I have found a few others with this issue and a few articles on its cause

WUDFRd failed to load for the device

Event ID 219 is logged after you install Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

I was just curious as to why it would suddenly start occurring after a particular date when as far as I can tell I have not made any changes to anything around this date.

Also I wondered if there was a fix to stop this, other than removing a memory stick before boot up!

Any thoughts?

Answer:The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device... error

I just started getting this exact same error message logged in Event Viewer when I plug a USB stick into a USB port. It happens with two different sticks from two different manufactures, but it does not happen every time I plug them in. It seems that it may mostly happen the first time I plug a stick in after I have booted up my PC.

Have you been able to find a solution to get these error codes to stop logging?

Full event error: The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device {C5A047D8-CB5B-40E9-B9E3-316AB06B5A18}\WirelessKeyboardFilter`

Driver environment:
Windows 10 x64 desktop
I have a wireless Microsoft mouse
I do not have a Microsoft wireless keyboard
I have the associated transceiver that should work for both (if installed)

This problem started when my Microsoft wireless mouse driver was updated to version 1.0.102.0 (dated 3/16/2016).
This driver update also appears to be responsible for a few other device errors as well:

I believe this new driver assumes you have a wireless keyboard (without checking) and just tries to load a driver for it.

My temporary fix is/was to rollback the driver to the previous Microsoft version 10.0.10586.0 (dated 6/21/2006):

Anyone else run across this condition or have a known solution using the latest driver?

Thanks,

At Windows 10 startup this Warning appears in my Event Log as Event ID: 219.

The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device SWD\WPDBUSENUM\{a1c931b2-3b00-11e5-9c14-806e6f6e6963}#0000000008100000.

I know why this happens. The device in the message is an internal SATA AHCI hard drive. All AHCI drives, even internal ones, are considered removal or hot swapable. It even causes the safely remove icon to appear sort of like it was a USB drive. It happened on Windows 8.x. Don't remember if it happened on Windows 7. I can't make any changes in my BIOS to make it not hot swapable as there is no option for this drive.

The fix to get rid of the message in W8 was to modify the Service 'Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework' Changing the Startup type from Manual to Automatic fixed the problem. However, on Windows 10 this method does not work.

I can't disable the Service as it's needed for other devices. Just wondering if anyone found a nice clean way to get rid of the warning message like in W8?

Hello all,

My computer is running Windows XP 32 bit.

I've recently been suffering through the issue of my computer constantly rebooting when I try to run it normally. I can run it in safe mode no problem though.

When I clicked the "Use last known configuration" option I was presented with the error "C:\WINDOWS\system32\command.com
SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers. Virtual Device Driver format in the registry is invalid" then the option to close or ignore. Ignore causes the warning to keep appearing until eventually the computer reboots anyway and the cycle continues.

When I looked in the registry for that pathway I found that I had no "VirtualDeviceDrivers" path in my "C:\WINDOWS\system32\command.com\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control.

I only have MalwareBytes, Spybot, and Microsoft Security Essentials. Never had Norton. No firewall.

I have no Windows XP disk and my search has turned up that most people have different fixes for this issue.

A majority of these solutions were found in this forum and I'm hoping to get some as well.

Thank you for any help and I apologize if I left anything out.

I have a couple of problems with Win2k. Not sure if they are related. Occassionally I get an error message that says the following:

d:\Docume~1\Ran\Desktop|Shortc~1.PIF System\Current\Controller\Virtual\Device Drivers. VDD. Virtual Device Driver in the registry is invalid. Choose 'close' to terminate the application.

The most recent instance of this message was when I clicked on the dos prompt in Win2k.

The other problem I am having is that when I choose the "restart" option instead of shutting down in Win2k, Win2k doesn't restart. The monitor shuts off, but not the power to the monitor. I end up doing a hard reboot to get the computer to return to Win2k desktop.
Also, when choosing the "shut down option" instead of 'restart', the monitor shuts off, but not the power to the monitor and the hard drive doesn't appear to shut off and won't respond at all to me pressing the on and off switch. I end up shutting the hard drive off with the surge protector after I have turned the monitor off.

I do not have any screen savers turned on nor any green functions. And have my power management set to "desktop status".

System is not prompting me to run scandisk at startup.

Any idea what is causing any of this?

I was Trying to Put in Some of the Old 16 bit Games into my computer the other day and Got this Message saying that the Virtual Device Driver Could Not Be Found, and got the same little GLITCH when I tried to Install a program that Defrags the Memory called MemTurbo. It is a Good Program Also but got the same Error Message when I was trying to install this program. So I went into the HELP Files in the Start Menu and it told me to go into the Reg Edit Program under the Run in the Start Menu. So Did This and Cruised Thru the RegEdit could not find the VDD file. So I was Wondering if there is a Proram to get to put this back in ?? Then I would be able to put the old games in! !

Answer:WinXP Home_VDD_Can Not Find the Virtual Device Driver

It should say which VDD is missing in the error message. If it does, google for the file, and DL it. Should come with a self-extractor.

Hi guys. I have recently purchased 2 SSD drives - 1x64gb & 1x128gb. I have the 64gb hooked up to the home pc and is running as the C:\ system drive. I wanted to hook up the 128gb drive to my notebook, but I keep getting an initialisation error (2100) - I have tried AHCI and Compatibility Mode, as well as look up various firmware upgrades and hdd firmware upgrade options via Lenovo. I was just curious if anyone has had problems with this on there system, and if so, how did you overcome it. I have tried both drives on my notebook, both providing the same error, but both work on the desktop system. I have a strong feeling it is to do with a firmware upgrade through Lenovo (ibm), as I have the most recent upgrade which is already a few months old... Hope to hear something good soon... Thnx guys in advance.

Answer:SSD Patriot Warp V2 64gb & 128gb & Lenovo T61P - error 2100 hard disk failed initialisation

Hello everyone. Had the same problem Yesterday. Tried several times without luck. Then I read another thread on the Internet regarding this. It stated that there is a little inconsistency between the SSD SATA plug and the recieving plug in the laptop. I removed the IBM Disk bezel and put the 2 rubber guards directly on the disk and slipped it in. BEFORE this, I have put the SSD in an external USB HD Case and via Windows Diskmanager, deleted the partition on the drive. After putting it back in as described above it WORKED :-))) Please write back if anybody tries this and it works for them BR Jakob

Hi, critical one this for me and desperation is setting in.

I have an application to load and assess for work before the end of the week. As a new expensive app it is USB "dongle" protected. When I try to run the setup.exe to install it I get the following error word for word:

"SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers. VDD. Virtual Device Driver format in the registry is invalid. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application". That address is reported incomplete without HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\, and why is VDD displayed unattached to its address, or am I just being too paranoid? I am then offered Close and Ignore as options.

The entry under VDD in the registry is:

"VDD, REG_MULTI_SZ, C:\Progra~1\Symantec\S32EVNT1.DLL" presumably a Symantec NAV dll. Symantec's support system is of course no real help.

Not being a registry wizard. can anyone else offer any insight as to what is wrong here?

Windows says device driver installation failed for hp laserjet 1012. This despite printer working correctly. Every time on reboot I get this message. How do I stop windows from trying to install driver for a working device???

Answer:Windows says device driver installation failed

You have to reinstall your printer drivers or you're probably going to continue to get the error. If you are unsure how to go about updating your device drivers for the printer, I would suggest you start here:

Windows 8.1 Pro x64 - please find the complete system log warning details below and a (related or not?) disk controller error below.  Motherboard is an ASRock B75 Pro 3 with an Intel B75 Chipset.
I keep getting these warnings.  I get them for all my Windows Portable Devices (disk drives) on boot up.  Here are my disks:
Disk 0 on internal SATA 3 connector off an
ASMedia ASM1061 chip on motherboard (internal drive, but enumerated as removable) - Seagate ST100DM003-1CH162 D: data drive
Disk 1 on internal SATA 3 connector off the B75 chipset on motherboard (internal drive, not enumerated as removable - gives no warnings or errors - Seagate ST100DM003-1CH162 C: system drive (has Windows 8.1 OS on it)

Disk (2 or 3 - depends on order of USB connection) on external USB 3.0 connector off back I/O panel of motherboard - Seagate BlackArmor DAS35 USB device G: backup external hard drive
There are no symptoms other than another (probably unrelated) disk controller error (shown below).  The controller error is on either drive 2 or 3, but never 0 or 1, so it is one of the external back up drives (the thumb drive or the BlackArmor drive).

Hi,
I have recently bought Samsung galaxy S5 device. When I tried to connect it to my computer I nothing happend (what should have happen is that it will pop up the "What do you want to do? Go to folder/..." menu).
So I tried another usb socket. still the same problem. I have Ubunto install as a sperate OS on my computer, and there everything is working fine - so the problem is not in the cable/USB on my computer.

I went to Device manager and under "Portable devices" I see the "SAMSUNG Mobile MTP Device" icon with a yellow mark. I open it and I see "this device is not working properly because windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (code 31)". I also have "SAMSUNG Mobile USB Modem" under modem in device manager (but it says that this device is working properly).
I tried to remove the "SAMSUNG Mobile MTP Device" and double click it and choose "update driver"->"search online". It found the driver but was unable to install it (got a "access deined" screen).

**This is not a problem of registry "UpperFilter"/"LowerFilter" problem. I saw it online while I was google a soultion and this is not my case***

"The installation failed because a function driver was not specified for this device instance"
I received this message while installing a USB driver. I have an 80GB External USB 2.0 hard drive attached that was working great a few days ago. I logged on one day to find this device "unrecognized". When I checked the device manager, it said that the driver was missing (?!). I searched for the driver on the MS website, and the device manager seemed to find a suitable one, but upon install I got the message above.

I found the old driver on my system which seemed odd to me, deleted it, tried to reinstall and received the same message.

I understand that USB 2.0 is backwards compatible, plus it was working previously, so it seems strange that it suddenly died.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

For the past couple of days i have been having a problem where my computer just shuts down on its own and then turns back on again. It mostly happens when im launching or playing a game but a couple of times i was just on the desktop and it restarted. I have checked the event logs and it keeps saying this:

The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device SWD\SensorsAndLocationEnum\LPSensorSWDevice.

I have searched all over the internet for the past couple of days and have found multiple answers (all of which didn't work). Some say its the psu and others say its the gpu. I personally think it was the windows update that i did three days ago because that was the day it started but i have yet to see anything online about a windows update causing this. I have already updated the graphics drivers and chipset drivers but it didn't change anything. Can someone just tell me whats going on because is just built this pc about 6 months ago and nothing like this has ever happened.

I am using a Satellite L300 series laptop with a TSSTcorp CDDCDW TS-L633A CD/DVD drive, however the drive has presently stopped working, saying that:

"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"

I have tried uninstalling the drive and restarting the computer however when the laptop attempts to reinstall the driver I get an error message saying:

"Device driver software was not successfully installed"

Any ideas for how to get the disk drive up and running again?

Answer:Satellite L300: TSSTcorp CDDCDW TS-L633A Device Driver Failed

Hi

I think this can be solved very easily.
There are some threads which provide an solution;

Usually you need to delete this device in device manager.
Then you have to go to registry and have to remove the upper and lower filters from registry key.
Here you can get more details:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/270008/en-us

After that reboot the unit.

I was able to resolve these types of errors with the assistance of the Event Log Online Help in the past. Does anyone know the procedure to troubleshoot this error so it can be resolved?
Thank you for your assistance.

Hello everyone. Hope you are all doing good today and able to beat the heat on this very hot day. I have this really old laptop HP Pavillion dv6000. Originally it came with Windows Vista installed back when Windows Vista was first released but eventually I upgraded the laptop to Windows 7. Everything was fine and working until recently where the laptop has no sound. I try to install the sound driver from the HP website and it says "driver installation failed: could not find the device for this driver." No matter what I do I cannot get sound on this laptop. If I go to YouTube and watch a video the video plays just fine but with no sound. When I click on the sound icon next to the time on the desktop bar a window pops up that says "troubleshooting has completed" Problems found: "Hardware changes might not have been detected." I am not sure what is up with this or how to fix it but any help is appreciated thanks.

Answer:It says "driver installation failed could not find the device for this driver"

A Vista laptop likely doesn't have Win7 drivers written...try re-installing the originals from the Driver CD and reboot...Plus it's likely you are trying nVidia or AMD drivers gettin it to work which is a no-no on a laptop....

I upgraded to Windows 10 a while back. Every time I open the computer I get a pop-up notification telling me the USB device is unrecognized. I have no USB devices in any of my 3 USB ports.
I sent my computer in twice. No help. They just uninstalled everything and reinstalled everything and told me it should be fixed. It is not. I then went about updating every driver in my Device Manager. I uninstalled the Unknown USB Device and then updated
other drivers. Certain drivers (such as PCI Express Root Port #3 - 9C14) when updating would also reinstall the Unknown USB Device, which I would then uninstall and keep working down the list. At the end of updating EVERYTHING I scanned for hardware changes
and "found" the Unknown USB Device.
From what I can tell, and I know very little about this stuff, my computer can't name one of my USB ports. Since it can't figure out what it's called it can't download the proper driver for it. Since it can't download the proper driver it can't work properly.
The practical result from this is that one of my three USB ports does nothing when I put in any USB item (connect my android phone, thumb drive, presentation clicker, etc).
I've looked on tons of forums. My current thought is that if I can tell my computer what the deice is or download the right driver and tell my computer to use that driver for this device it should solve my issue. But I don't know how to know what the name
of the USB port should be (I imagine it woul... Read more

I have a Yiynova tablet monitor and its been working fine for about a month. I recently tried to download the beta version of a NVIDIA GeForce update (bad idea) and had to reinstall a previous version. After that, things started to go south for my tablet.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the tablet driver, and tried to plug it in a different USB port and it came up with the same message.

Is there a step that I'm missing?

I have dual screen setup, and that's working fine, but the driver that senses the pen just isn't installing, even though I installed the driver program.

I appreciate any ideas on how to fix this.

The problem wasn't solved, but I believed I narrowed down the problem. The driver doesn't seem to fully install.

Greetings all.

I monitor installation of apps with Systrace and Comodo Programs Manager. Using the latter, which includes the ability to uninstall Drivers, I've encountered a disastrous problem:
Specs:
Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop
Intel 2 x 2.0GHz, 8GB DDR2, 320GB 7200 HDD (20+GB free)
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, fully patched, updated and maintained
Norton IS 2012, Malwarebytes, Mamutu, Windows Firewall (regularly run Kaspersky, ESET, etc., scanners offline. No malware.)
Have 350+ third-party apps installed for reference, testing and troubleshooting others' computers.

Problem: Using Comodo Programs Manager (CPM) I uninstalled Windows Mobile 2003 Device Driver which required a reboot to complete and, now, I cannot boot the system. The Windows logon screen appears, a message displays, saying CPM's "Force delete jobs completing...". The system freezes there with a black screen, the mouse cursor responds but there is no other activity. Even the LED showing HDD activity ceases.

Attempted solutions:
-- Safe Mode(s), Last Known Good Config, etc., Startup Repair, (System Restore has been disabled.) To make matters worse, I carelessly began to run Windws 7 installation repair as though it was XP. Before I caught the mistake and cancelled, 7 had already begun to copy files. Now I have the SystemRoot as "windows\windows".

Hello,
I've been experiencing multiple bluescreens daily and what's odd about them is they occur randomly while using many programs; however, I have noticed that they occur more frequently directly after opening a new tab, loading a new site or running a game (StarCraft II).
Looking through Event Viewer. I see a list of warnings and errors immediately prior to the BSOD. In chronological order:

9:07:18 PM CRITICAL- "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

9:07:28 PM WARNING- "The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device USB\VID_0483&PID_2016\5&249af6f9&0&2."

I am tying to sync my Samsung Galaxy J7Sky Pro phone with my computer using Samsung Smart Switch Program.
When I start the Smart Switch Program and plug in the USB cable from the phone to the computer USB port, the device driver for the phone does not install properly or recognize the phone, as depicted by a yellow exclaimation point for the Galaxy J7 Sky Pro
device driver and AMDA00 interface under system devices.
I tried reinstalling the Samsung phone device driver but still get the above exclaimation for these drivers.
I then shut down and restarted the Samsung phone and the drivers reinstalled properly and the Smart Switch Program worked.

My issue is that the next time I restarted my computer, I get the same device driver errors.
Is there some way to prevent having to restart and reinstall the device drivers each time I want to sync my phone using the Smart Switch program?
Same issue used to happen with my Samsung Galaxy SIII phone, before I upgraded to the Samsung Galaxy J7 Sky Pro.
It is a real pain in the neck and time waster.

Answer:Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) A request for the USB device descriptor failed.

Hi onyx,
This error means a device driver notified the operating system that the device failed. This circumstance can occur if the device hardware fails or if the device driver fails.
Have you tried to update the device driver for test?
Please follow this guide trying t resolve this issue:

I was just working happily when my Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse just suddenly stopped working.
The Bluetooth settings page says "Bluetooth is turned off" and there are no options on the settings page or the system tray to turn Bluetooth on.
The Device Manager now has "Unknown USB device - device descriptor request failed" where it did not before.
Other devices all seem to be working fine - USB devices plugged in are being recognized and work properly. Only BT seems to be broken.
I've tried:
uninstalling the device and rebooting
installing the latest updated chipset drivers from the dell website
windows updates
pretty much all of the advice here: http ://troubleshooter.xyz/wiki/fix-usb-device-not-recognized-device-descriptor-request-failed

Any other ideas?
Thanks

Answer:XPS 15 9550 Bluetooth stopped working (Unknown USB device - device descriptor request failed)

So in desperation I just went into BIOS settings to see if there are any BT settings that may have become disabled. I didn't see any, and I didn't change any other settings.
After rebooting, BT and my mouse is now working again.
Something seems to be really flaky here, but hopefully this will help others with the same issue.

Hello, ok so after recently doing a clean install of windows 10(please don't get me started on that mess). my system has been plagued by random usb drops. it's where everything connected via USB suddenly disconnects then reconnects out of the blue. well I was using a Rosewill Transenclosure RX200R-APU-25B USB 3.0 dual 2.5 hard drive enclosure and transferring files from one drive to another (connected via USB) when one of these drops occurred. Now whenever I plug in my hard drive enclosure in a windows warning pops up and says "the USB drive that was just connected Malfunctioned and could not be installed" and in system manager it says "Unknown USB device (device descriptor request failed)". I know it's not the hard drives because I can remove them and use another connection and they work fine, all files intact. It's just now my hard drive enclosure won't recognize. This also happened to a "Loot crate exclusive Game of Thrones stark sigil 4GB USB stick I plugged in and turned into a windows 10 install drive. When I plugged it into use it after the windows media creator said it was done the USB stick was raw and unformatable. Please help. Microsoft keeps telling me it's a hardware issue even though it happened on two different systems. both operating windows 10 never any issue with windows 7 or 8.1
