I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Not very fluent in Excel. I am setting up a positive pay format for my company to transfer check information from my PC to a bank via an ASCII Flat-File. Question is, I have so many columns that need to be set at 10 characters fixed length.

Is there way for this to be done? Example if I key in a check for $1.95

I want it to automatically put it as 0000000195.

Can this be done?

Thanks

Comp shut down on me yesterday. No blue screen, just restarted. Went about my business and it happened again, but this time I had this thing pop up yesterday saying I was infected (under taskbar, NOT the net).. So I didn't click on it. Just shut the WLAN off. Windows security center popped up saying I was under attack. (Also under task bar).. Didn't touch anything.

I couldn't do anything. Was trying to shut stuff off when the screen went black with a warning that I was under attack. Restarted to see what I could do and it shut down again (3rd time.) Started in safemode and it was running fine so I did two scans. one MWB scan and another Microsoft Security Essentials. MSE only found one file, Malwarebytes didn't find anything.

Usually when they don't find anything you can find some suspicious files under Msconfig > Startup and trace the item and delete it. Did that and couldn't delete a couple things, so I shut it off in MSconfig and startup (restarted), so it disabled it and was able to delete the files. Restarted > Safemode > MSCONFIG > Startup and ANOTHER one was showing as active. This time the warnings popped up again. :eek2: Got it just in time before it shut me down again.

Did the same thing again, traced and deleted sections until the file was gone. Restarted, scanned twice again, CHKDSK, and CC Clean. Here I am.

Got it. Prolly some lingering files, but I can't get that one out of the startup menu. It was some "AivL virus scan&q... Read more

Answer:Excel spreadsheet into ASCII format

Hi Danell, and welcome to TSG.

MS-Excel allows you to export the contents of an Excel spreadsheet as tab delimited text files and also as comma delimited text files. Each row in the sheet is a line of text and either tabs or commas separate each column. If this is not what you are seeking, please provide a more detailed explanation of what you mean by ASCII format.

I have an Excel file which I have to convert into ASCII.

In the converted file, each record should consist of 296 characters, for e.g.,

Positions 1 - 30: Surname
Positions 31-50: First name
Positions 51: Initial
Positions 52 - 75: Address Line 1
etc.

My problem is that if the surname is less than 30 characters, it has to be padded with spaces and if it's a numeric field it has to be padded with zeros.

As I mentioned, I have an excel file. Is there any way I can format the excel file to automatically put in spaces or add zeros whichever the case may be and then I can just save the file in ASCII format? Is there any other program I could use to accomplish this task?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Can you tell us from the start what happened please.
What do you mean by "lost part of several files" how can you lose part of a file?
What are the file types you lost? (if excel then they would be .xls file type)
How did you lose them (What happened to make them lost)?
How did you manage to recover them? and what file type are they?
What program are you opening them in to discover they are ASCII symbols?
If you give us as many details as possible we may be able to help.

Answer:how to convert excel data to ASCII comma delimited text file

you should be able to save as CSV - Comma Separated Value . which will produce a comma delimited file

ASCII is how a computer uses characters
so a letter
A in ASCII can be a number of different codes , depending on what the computer uses
I used to work on computers that uses octal numbers
The octal numeral system, or oct for short, is the base-8 number system, and uses the digits 0 to 7.Click to expand...

and an "A" was 101
I dont know if you are trying to change the letters and numbers into ASCII code
this maybe HEX base 16
The hexadecimal numbers are 0-9 and then use the letters A-F.Click to expand...

Here is a table of ASCII codes
http://www.asciitable.com/

if you had
cell A1 with
H and
A2 with 20

did you want to show
H,20
or
change the H and the 20 to an ASCII code
say HEX
48,4

I saved the excel file as a csv, opened the csv with wordpad and did a 'save as' from there to get the .txt extension. The data in the text file appears to be in the exact format I need
(0, "Text", 1, 3, 0) but the program I am trying to import it into doesn't like it ('invalid record' or something like that). Did I do something wrong in the process of arriving at my .txt file?

I have 2 Excel files that I create for my company, a list of items we sell, one with prices and one without.  I use 2 columns on a page for both of them.  Other than the prices, they are exactly the same.  However, when I print them out, the one with prices breaks one row lower than the other, even though the margins, row height, and other page setup settings are exactly the same, as well as the printer.  I would like to make them the same, as it makes it easier to copy and paste new data between them.  Any help would be most appreciated.

Answer:Excel worksheet page length

A suggestion for a quick and dirty fix !  You say it is the list with the prices that is breaking one row lower. Go into 'Print preview' and 'Setup . . .' and increase the bottom margin very slightly, say by 0.1 cm. this should make it break a row earlier to match the other.

Apart from the elegance aspect, does it make a difference that it is the printed version that is showing this behaviour ?  Surely, any copying and pasting you are doing is done on screen and you imply that any misalignment is only showing up in the printed version.

Hello,
I recently had to do complete re-install of my forum(phpbb3) and my ftp (and me) didn't know that the files without extensions were binary and it downloaded them as ascii. those files contained picture attachments to posts, they are real important to my forum. phpbb3 says they cannot be fixed, but it seems to me a utility program should be able to reverse the damage, anybody know of one? plz?
and:
No there are no other backups other than these corrupted ones.
Phpbb3 is of NO help, they say they are toast.

Okay, here's the deal:

Our users run reports using Terminal Emulation on our UNIX box, and the report generates a file. Easy enough.

We need to give users the ability to FTP into the box (I set that up already) and transfer the files to their local machine, but the files have to be transferred in ASCII, not binary. I've tried with both Netscape 4.6 and IE 5, and can't figure out how to make it switch between ASCII/Binary.

Answer:Find length of side of triangle in Excel

Welcome to the forums Jo.

Having the length of two sides of a triangle isn't enough to calculate the length of the 3rd side, for a non right-angle triangle. You'll also need to know one of the angles.

My lady wife is having a small problem with a formula she is trying to use in an Excel spreadsheet.

She is trying to make a formula that she can copy and paste into various spreadsheets she utilises to organise her staff's workflow.
The five staff deal with about 30 suppliers and she wishes to be able to associate each supplier with a particular member of staff, so, for example, if column A is 'Suppliers'and column B is 'Staff Member', a formula using the IF function is placed in column B using the following syntax:
=IF($A1="aaaa","Rashmi",IF($A1="bbbb","Laura",IF($A1="cccc","Linda",IF($A1="dddd","Denise",IF($A1="eeee","Mark","")))))Click to expand...

This works just fine with only a few suppliers, but if the string is lengthened to more than about 9 suppliers, as here:

Hi all,
I am wondering how to overcome the problem of Excel chopping off data.Is there a way to set a large limit or possibly keep the record length unlimited. This data is the results retreived from Access queries. The data after querying is exported to the Excel sheet via the following do command:

DoCmd.OutputTo acQuery, "queryName", "MicrosoftExcel(*.xls)", "Report" & ".xls", False, ""
Thanx

Answer:Exporting from Access to Excel-length limits?

If you are trying to put the entire string as one line it will never work. I believe the charachter length is 255. You can however create a new cell in Excel for each record like a line break.

DOS is not dead, at least not yet for me. However in Windows 8 a useful utility has been has now been lost with the elimination of EDIT.COM.

I use batch files for a variety of purposes which are much faster than mousing through a GUI, for example to archive, backup and move files using xcopy and it's switches to make conditional backups of files, excluding files which do not need to be overwritten because their date or archive attribute has not been changed. No problem there, I can still use notepad for these basic batch files.

HOWEVER: The problem comes when I want to include ASCII characters within the batch file to echo to the screen as information text boxes. Example below.

echo ╔════════════════════════╗
echo ║ Backup completed ║
echo ╚════════════════════════╝
echo.

Since EDIT.COM has now been eliminated from Windows 8, is there any 64-bit text editor editor out there that anyone knows of that will allow the creation and saving of ASCII special characters in a batch file?

I have tried "Vim", "Nano", "Notepad++"... NONE of these work! They all completely obliterate the ASCII characters replacing them ... Read more

Answer:Replacement for EDIT.COM for creating batch files w/ASCII

It's all to do with character sets, I believe.

I think Notepad++ may be useful after all. I pasted your few lines into a text file, and it looks strange.

However by changing the character sets, it seems to work better.

So changing to OEM-US here

gives something like this.

And it works in a batch file when I tried it. (This is after I put @echo rather than echo at the start of each line.)

Note I picked the character set OEM-US more or less at random so it may not work for everything. But it looks promising.

Edit: forgot to say - when I opened the file again it again looked odd, but it looked fine after changing the character set back. I don't know if it's possible to automate that bit so it always defaults to that character set.

This problem is really starting to wind me up!

When attempting to play downloaded Mpgs on windows media player the legnth shows as only a couple of minuites (The time is not a constant with all the mpgs which do this).

This means that the video only plays until the time-bar gets to the end. I Hear everyone saying "The video is just that long short"!...

...Well if i click into the time-bar to skip ahead i can view parts of the video which would otherwise not play if i let the video play in full, as they are past the Total length time. For instance if i click right near the end of the time-bar i can catch the credits of the film but only briefly as the time-bar oviously still moves and because the total time is so short it quickly stops.

It is kind of difficult to explain other than this, but if it has happend to you, you will recognise the symptoms.

As i explained above i am using windows media player, however i have also tried the video on real player and the problem remains the same.

My system is a 2gig athlon xp with 512 ram, radeon 9200se, globalwin water cooling and 140 gig of Hard disk space.

Hope somebody can shed some light on this annoying problem.

Thanks

To see the properties of all media files, there is a utility that is usually installed alongside K-Lite codec pack. If you haven't any other codec pack installed, it is a good idea to install K-Lite codec so you can play almost any audio and video format available and also have this utility. Then you can right-click on the file, select Media Properties (or similar) and see all the data you want, like resolution, frames per second, duration, video codec, audio codec etc.

i always got an error message - filename.xls is not a valid win32 application. thing is that office was looking for "excel office component" - whatever that is.

So I went to Control Panel>Programs>Default Programs.

Tried to change the default program for xls and xlsx files to excel, but it would not show up.

So I went to start and searched for excel.exe. that gave me the path to the actual file.

copied it down - went back to the control panel >programs/default programs > change and scrolled down to the file types, clicked on change > browse . and pasted the file path there.

problem solved. should work for the other office programs as well.

I have a programme called Clonemaster which scans for duplicate & zero length files. Anyone had experience of this software? It has found a lot of files but I wonder if they are actually safe to delete??Thanks.

Answer:SPRING CLEAN: delete duplicate/zero length files?

I would leave zero length files well alone alone, some are intended to be that length and although if you remove them they may be re-created you are tempting fate. As regards duplicates it does depend on what your removing, removing duplicate 'Dll' files can cause programs not to function, speaking from experience some while ago while I decided to have a clean up I would leave those well alone. Other duplicate files such as ones you have created, picture, text files, etc you should be ok with.

Is there a quick way to find files in a folder whose file names exceed 64-characters in length? I'm trying to burn a CD of a large (over 500MB) photo folder. The CD burning program appears to alert me of SOME long filenames when it starts up, and I tell it to "Change All." But it's not finding them all until it starts burning.

During the burning it tells me certain file names exceed 64-characters and the path may not be found and do I want to proceed anyway. I can't go through the whole folder looking for the few long names because it's enormous, it would take hours.
I don't know why it doesn't detect them all.

As I started writing this thing, I thought back to some of my program language classes inwhich my professor always told me "think like a machine, not a like a human" when writing code. That comment helped fix my problem. So for the sake of anyone else, I will post my problem and then my solution.

My problem:
I have 2 spreadsheets worth of information. I used 3 columsn to determine if certain information matches in both spreadsheets, and then a 4th column with a nested if to provide a result of the matches. The first 3 columns would return with a FALSE or TRUE. I would then use a 4th column to collaborate the information from the 3 columns into a common result. The problem existed when I tested for "TRUE" AND "FALSE" answers in each of the 3 columns. In thinking like a machine, I remembered that if it returned those answers, it did not do so in a text format that you can compare text to, it did so more as a logical statement.

The formulas I was using in the first 3 columns (or a derivative of):
=ISNA(MATCH(A1, Sheet1!$C$2:$C$50, 0)

The formula I was uing in the last column:
=if(or(a2="FALSE" and(c2="FALSE", d2="FALSE")), "Site is built", "Site is not built")

The problem existed when I tried to match the logical statement result with text instead of another logical statement result.

How the fomula should have looked:
=if(or(a2=FALSE and(c2=FALSE, d2=FALSE)), "Site is built", "Sit... Read more

right now i am using excel 2010. I have a file created in excel 2003, which has many filters set to it. when i work on the file from the pc where excel 2010 is installed and try to save the work i get pop up saying FIXED OBJECT WILL MOVE.I can't understand this error. what do i need to do to resolve this issue.

Answer:fixed objects will move error in excel 2010

Do a Google search on "FIXED OBJECT WILL MOVE".It appears to be a somewhat common issue and could be caused by a number of things, such as comments, buttons, shapes, etc.Read some of the posts in other forums (found via Google) and see if that helps.Click Here Before Posting Data or VBA Code ---> How To Post Data or Code.

I am trying to write a macro in Excel... it's fairly simple, but I can't figure out one part. I used the record feature to get started (I'm quite rusty in writting macros)...

What I want to do:
I have lots of data in one worksheet. I want to pick out some of it and put in into another worksheet. I want the row to be variable, the columns set.

For example, I want the info from row 26. I want take the info from worksheet "pricing" cell F26 and put it in worksheet "report" in cell B5.

Excel gives me:

Range("B5").Select
ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = "=pricing!R[21]C[4]"

For whatever reason, using the record feature, it's selecting the row and column in reference to the cell that the data is going in to! (B5 + 21 rows + 4 columns = F26)

What I would like is it to pull info from a variable row and fixed column... can you help me with the scripting? I know how to set the variable and such.

Hi everyone,

I'm sure everyone has experienced the inconsistent structure of pivot tables. I wasn't able to figure this out in Excel 2003.. but hopefully Excel 2007 has an updated functionality?

To illustrate: I have a monthly sales report that reports #s by employee in the column header. So it looks like:

Albert Brian Charlie
Sales $100 $150 $200
Expenses $50 $70 $100

Now, if Brian does not work one month, his name will not be shown when the pivot table is updated. Is there a way to set the pivot table to show the same columns regardless if the data is blank or empty?

I've explored simply adding fake data (i.e. Brian has 0 sales and 0 expenses into the database) but wanted to know if there was an alternative method.

Thanks!

Simon

Answer:Solved: Excel Pivot Tables - Fixed Column Categories

"I'm sure everyone has experienced the inconsistent structure of pivot tables."

Not really. I read:

"By default, the Pivot Table shows only the items for which there is data."

Having said what it does, if it (then) only did it sporadically then ... that would be inconsistent.

TBH I can't get a handle on your data layout from "reports #s by employee in the column header" -- to me, that doesn't really sound "pivot table friendly".

Nevertheless, you can read about the "Show Items with No Data" option (available in, and maybe even from, XL2K) here. HTH

Try as I might, I can't seem to find a solution to my issue.  I have a spreadsheet and would like to save the spreadsheet dateas text and have the data output as a fixed column width with no delimiters (like an implied table) . I've tried altering each column in the spreadsheet using data, text to columns..No luck. When I copy and paste the data into a txt doc. the data remains as delimited. The original input to the spreadsheet is in delimited format.Anyone have any ideas for this?  Thanks

Answer:Excel - 2003 - save a spreadsheet in a fixed column text format

You can use Save As and choose "Text (MS-DOS) .txt" but you still have delimiters. I think you'd need a VBA macro such as the one in the spreadsheet on this page linked to here:http://www.databison.com/index.php/export-excel-as-fixed-width-text-file-format-using-vba/But I would prefer the time-honoured method of installing, as an additional printer, the "generic/text-only" printer and then, from the Excel print menu, choosing (1) that printer (2) checking the "Print to file" box, and (3) supplying a file name. The output will be a non-delimited text file. You may still have to do a bit of editing (e.g. in Notepad) but it gets you nearly there.Code: [Select] First Name   Surname   Date of birth Sex       Start Date

Hi to the forum:

I am starting a new thread on this sfc/scannow topic because i have encountered a whole new problem.originally i posted about the scan detecting corrupt files but could not fix them.i was advised to do a REPAIR INSTALL which tonight i finally got around to trying having got a loan disc(my system came with pre-installed win7)from a friend.i inserted the disc but "set-up.exe"failed to appear after waiting several minutes.i clicked on DVD drive and my option was run as administrator which i did----still nothing.it "whirred and chucked" but no message to advance(i tried this many times)still same result.totally frustrated i reverted to trying a restore point but apparently they are all on the HDD which is out of order.among the restore points was the following: which i do not understand because nothing happened.i am really depending on you guys to sort me out (again).thank you for all your magnificent help in the past few weeks.

My desktop (Dell Optiplex 755, W8.1 Pro 32-bit, 4GB RAM, Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E6550 2.33GHz) has been playing up over the weekend.

1) Have run restore point 30 June.
2) Sometines beeping (seems like 3-2-3) & not starting. Have removed the 3 RAM sticks, & replaced one at a time. All allowed it to start, so put all back & now booting OK.
3) Ran SFC /scannow, and reported corrupt files found and unable to fix some of them

I am attaching a screen shot of the sfc report, and also attaching the SFC log file.
The latter is many pages if info reports. Can anyone suggest how to interpret the log, and/or how to repair the system please?

As the lpg file CBS.log is nearly 5MB I have split it into 3 files named CBS20140707-a.log.txt, CBS20140707-b.log.txt & CBS20140707-c.log.txt to fit within the 2MB limit for attachment size.

Answer:Corrupt files not fixed by SFC

sfc /scannow sometimes requires to run multiple times to fix the problem. FYI, you can delete the contents of the CBS folder before running sfc so that it will create a new up to date CBS.log with much smaller size.

If Windows is not booting, I assume that you are running System File Checker (sfc) from the recovery options area? At the same place, you can repair the MBR. Try entering bootrec.exe /FixMbr. You can find out more information about bootrec.exe on this Microsoft article.

I recently removed XP Defender Pro from my machine using this help thread. The malware was removed, however, most exe files cause the "open with" prompt to popup, and consequently will not run. Firefox, IE, notepad, DDS, and a few others work fine. I searched the forums to see if anyone else that has removed XP Defender Pro had similar issues and found a few but no fixes. Any ideas as how to fix this?

Hello everyone,

First my SFC scan was done after image (just as a caution) I am not experiencing any problems (it had been a very long time since I did one).

I used the sfc /scannow command from an elevated cmd in normal mode and it completed fine (I did re-run it several times as in tutorial) but indicated it could not fix some items. So I ran the command to save log to desk top and in review there are no entrees showing any flagged files (what files it could not fix).

As a note: I don't remember running the utility since changing over to Kaspersky Internet security last year. I also recently removed EMET 3.0 being carful to ensure default settings with re-boot before removal via add and remove.

I am just wondering if this is of any concern for further investigation, again everything seems to be working fine at this point.

Many thanks to all on the forum -- Bill

Hello:

I am new to this site and have done some various reading throughout and am having an issue with the sfc /scannow files not being fixed. Unfortunately I am VERY computer novice. What I have done at this point is I have figured out how to save the CBS log on my desktop, but I have no idea at all how to show it on here. I have also found & deleted the two updates that are KB3022345 & KB3068708 that appear to be issues, but deleting them both made no difference. I hope im posting this in the correct thread and definitely will look forward to hearing responses. Thank-you.

So I don't know how to manually fix corrupted files, so I'm wondering if you guys can help me. I have my sfc details here. SFC Details - Pastebin.com. Thank you.

(Sorry if I put this in the wrong thread, I don't know where to put it.)

Answer:Corrupted files not fixed through sfc scan through CMD.

Hey, there is a known issue with a recent Windows Update (KB3022345), it causes an irrepairable corruption warning (which is a false report, the files are not corrupt in reality). If you have this update installed then do one of the following:
- Uninstall this update (it is Windows 10 preparation update) or
- Run the fix from The Tech Cookbook – Windows 7 update (KB3022345) causing corrupt files

After the above, run another SFC /scannow. If you still get a corruption, attach it in your next post.

Hi

on my windows 8.1 x64 PC I am having a lot of problems with programs hanging or not starting etc

I ran SFC /Scannow and got this message

"Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some
of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log."

The file will not open and also how do I get the corrupted files fixed.

I have run a Kaspersky 10 Boot Disk anti-virus scan and no issues were found.

So how do I fix the corrupt files?

Thanks

Daniel

Answer:Corrupt files found but not fixed in SFC /Scannow

Run:

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

in administrator command prompt & reboot.

Then run sfc /scannow

Corrupted files found by sfc /scannow cannot be fixed(please see attachment). Have gone through the sfc tutorial. The attached files cannot be fixed with chkdsk /r/f. I believe Windows7 SP1 is corrupted as my laptop cannot implement many of the current updates, and have errors when attempting to update (please see attachment). The laptop is from CyberpowerPC thus Microsoft will not allow me to download a Windows 7 SP1 ISO, which would allow me to perform repair install.

Any suggestion greatly appreciated.

Answer:Corrupted files found by sfc /scannow cannot be fixed.

Run this command in CMD as administrator.

dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

This should repair the corruption.

Also when this is finished, perform a Disk Cleanup. Select "Clean System Files". Check the Windows Update box, and whatever boxes you feel need cleaned up. This may take a bit of time to complete if you've never performed this task, overnight while you sleep is not a bad option

Please let us know if this gets you sorted.

I am running Win XP Pro and have been fighting an infection for a few days.

Was running Symantec EndPoint Protection, but it got past that.

Uninstalled and installed AVG Free, ran full scan

Ran Malware Bytes, Super Anti Spyware, Spybot Search and Destroy, Advanced System Care, and Glary Registry Repair.

Found and removed a number of virus files:

tpsaxyd, wiwow64, pp10, and many many others.

At one point, networking wasn't working, USB ports not working, programs freezing up, system resources overloaded, low RAM, processor running forever, and one BSOD.

I've gotten everything back, but am not sure if it's completely gone or if it's still hiding somewhere and will come back. I do notice what appears to be the processor coming on and off very slightly based on the light on my laptop. That seems strange.

If someone were willing to assist me in checking if I'm truly clean via hijack this or combofix, I would sincerely appreciate it. Also, I'd love to know why my supposed "latest and greatest" Symantec Endpoint totally blew it.

Thanks again

Hi, My computer was infected with the Virtumonde virus until I used Vundofix which found some files then had to use VirtumundoBeGone to clear the rest since I still got pop ups. It's been a day so far after using those programs and nothing comes up on adaware or Spy Bot except for cookies from places like advertising.com, fastclick and Doubleclick.net along with 3 files in the registry Spy Bot refers to as Virtumonde. I used Uniblue's RegistryBooster 2 to clean up but those 3 reg files are still there. It did clean up after the WebBuyingAssistant files though. Hi, I recently had a malware problem dealt with on this forum, but as there were a lot of corrupt system files I restored the system to a point it was early last month. I didn't restore the system before as I was having great difficulty doing so with the software I was using, but now I've worked it out. The system files are no longer corrupt but as the malware problem maybe still there I'd greatly appreciate help in interpreting the log files again. SAS has detected somethings that sound familiar from last time and combofix seems to have quarantined some files. Thanks

Ok, one of our computers was infected. After a quick goodle, I found a tutorial that used Stopzilla to fix. Which it seemed like it did. However things were still acting funny and then I found the tutorial here. I followed instructions malwarebytes, rkill, unhide etc... Everything "almost" seems fine, but there is one program that will not install or uninstall. It keeps saying files/location is missing.

When trying to reinstall the software (quick depost software for chase bank) the error message states files or install package location is missing. I'll get a screen capture of the msg shortly. Presently installing host file fix.

i have been having problems with windows update not running.

I did the automatic repair thing and it gets to 'starting bits service' and just hangs there no matter how long I leave it.

After a bit of searching for things to try I did:

sfc / scannow

It says there are corrupt files which it cannot fix. I can provide further details from windir/logs/cbs/cbs.log if that would be useful but its quite big so I'm not posting it straight away.

Answer:Update Porblems - Corrupt Files Found But Not Fixed

In the elevated command prompt type Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
It will take a while to run and appear to be stuck at 20%, let it complete.

Then run the sfc command again and reboot when completed.

Run the Windows Update troubleshooter if you are still having problems:

I am running Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 on Windows 7.

When I open Excel my personal.xlsb opens fine and my macros are available and I can create new macros. No problems.

BUT when I open any existing Excel file the pesronal.xlsb is not opened and therefore no macros and I cannot create new macros as I get the error "Personal Macro Workbook in the startup folder must stay open for recording." I have been trying things all night with no luck. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I will list the things I have tried or checked with no success below:
In Options>Advanced Tab>General Section....the box for "Ignore other applications that use DDE" is NOT checked.
In Options>Trust Center>Trust Center Settings>Trusted Locations... I have C:\Users\Nick\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART listed which is where my personal.xlsb is located
In Options>Trust Center>Trust Center Settings>Macro Settings ...Disable all macros with notification...selected and not selected neither way solves the issue.
In Options>Add-Ins>Manage: Disabled Items ...There are no disabled items.
I have deleted HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Excel in the registry editor
I have deleted C:\Users\Nick\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART\PERSONAL.XLSB and then run excel to create a new personal file.

Hi,
I transferred all my old Excel (2003 and before) files to my new notebook which has Vista HP and Excel 2007. I open an old Excel file and it looks OK but when printing or print previewing, every line appears double-spaced and the document runs over to a second page.
If I change the row height it prints the squeezed up text but still double-spaces. If I copy the whole content of the spreadsheet into a new blank spreadsheet it prints normally.
Is there any setting in Excel 2007 that I might have missed ?
Thanks.

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help me. I need to extract data from multiple excel files into a new excel file and sum the values. The data comes from excel files that are made from a template so the data is always in the same place or same cells. For example, i have data saved daily in excel files with the following naming convention 080204, 080304, 080404,..... and so on. What i would like to do is have a macro that will create a week ending sheet by importing and summing the data from that week.

Thanks for reading!

Ok this is a weird problem I ran into in the past with Word, and I'm having trouble finding information on it, because of the details involved.

What's happening is if i load up Excel and then goto file/open and load an excel document it comes up.

If I goto Start/Documents and try to load it from there Excel seems to hang, also if i Browse my computer and goto any excel file same thing happens, and of course it happens over a network share as well.

I didn't give it more then a minute or 2 to come up (We are talking small Excel files here nothing huge) On the last computer this happened on with Word, the documents would eventually come up, but it would take 5 minutes to load this way.

Anything I load withen Excel (Meaning I load excel and then goto File/Open, comes up instantly)

Windows knows how to handle the excel files and what program to load them with, I tried deleteing the (Is it called a mime?) entry in windows that tells excel how to handle the .XLS file, then held shift and Right clicked a .XLS file to re-enter it into Windows, just in case Windows wasn't opening it right but this had the same effect.
Any ideas?
Thanks

I need help to create an Excel macro that would

1. ask users to select x number of rows to be copied from one worksheet of one Excel file
2. once users have selected the rows to be copied, then the rows are copied from the one original Excel file into X number of target Excel files

Notes:
the target Excel files are all based on the same template
there is one worksheet in each of the target Excel files

in the target files, the rows should be copied from the first available empty row, going down

Looking forward to your help!

Hi everyone who is having this isse, I got this issue for months, I spent alot of time to search for the solutions, I found a lot of here but can not fix my issue, I think you did, too. but today, when I decided to remove all of the FingerPrint softwares, you guys please notice that, when the Fingerprint software is disabled, your login windows will become normal as windows XP style. If it apprears in your system, the log in windows can be looked different. When I removed all of that software, I restart and problem has gone. But I am not sure 100% that it is the problem or not. May be we should report to LENOVO or IBM that they can upgrade the driver for Fingerprint or fix the bug in the fingerprint software. Please try this then let me know the result. Thanks.

Answer:FIXed:T400 Lenovo can not log in when wake up from suspend or sleep time FIXed ( but not sure 100%)

I forgot to let you know about how was the issue: - When we leave the laptop for about 45 minutes or more than that, and we wake it up, the windows showed the "this computer is being locked by <account> only that account or Administrator can unlock" etc... - Then we press Ctrl + Alt + Delete, and then nothing happens, only a blue screen without anything, the only way that we have to do is hold the power button until the laptop is off then back on. and I fixed that problem via uninstalling all of the Fingerprint softwares. I hope that LENOVO or IBM can upgrade the software and fix that bug.

I'm having a problem with Excel 2000. Randomly it corrupts the file that I save to a network drive...I can save it but I cannot open it again. I get an error message "Out of Memory" It doesn't do it all the time and generally with large Excel files. I'm running Win98 and have installed all the Service Patches for both Win98 and Office 2000. Other people in the office can save to the same network drive with no problem.

7. Uncheck all programs that you do not need running when the computer starts.

10. All you can do is uncheck them one at a time until you get the one needed.

I'm not sure if it because the files are 2003 or not? When I try to open them an error message appears stating, "...the file you are trying to open is in a different format than specified by the file extension. Verify file is not corrupted and is from a trusted source..." These are my files. The interesting thing is that if I try to open the same file that I have saved within the last year (before I got 2007) then I can do it? That is, I have a cache folder of files that I go get to do calculations then save in a new job folder. The ones in the new job folder will open (also 2003), but the ones in the original cache will not? I would truly appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.

Answer:Can't open 2003 Excel Files in Excel 2007?

Have you attempted to set them up in 'Compatibility Mode." Not sure if this will help, just hoping it will. I have been testing the new Microsoft Office 2010 Beta 64 bit, and have yet to have this problem, and like you I have a great deal of files in 2003 (never used 2007)'

I think you can still download MS Office 2010 beta from Microsoft's download site. Good Luck.

I have a similar problem as the previous posting but my problem is with Excel not Word. When trying to open any Excel file I receive the message: "There was a problem sending the command to the program." My computer is a three month old custom unit built with Windows 7 Professional. I am using Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007. There have been no problems until this week.

Once upon a time I had Excel 4.0 & I upgraded to Office 97. This odd 'Old Excel Files' folder was left behind which I eventually deleted. After this I used to get this error message when I double clicked an Excel file to open it saying "the file C:\My Documents\[filename] could not be found and one of its components or library may be missing". If I clicked the OK button it would load. Recently I upgraded to Office 2000 and now when I double click an Excel file it comes up with a similar error message but now does'nt load the file or the software. I have used the "open with" dialogue (Click file to select, then right click while holding down the shift key) to point the file to use C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\EXCEL.EXE but now all this does is load Excel software but not the file. To access the file it is necessary to open Excel, then use the 'File>Open' dialogue. Any ideas out there?

Answer:Opening Excel files loads Excel but not the file

Right click the file and, under the general tab, change the "open with" option to open with Excel 2000.Think that might solve the problem (hope so)

Hello all, This is my first post, so I'll start by apologizing if I have put this post in the wrong section. I'm a recent thinkpad user... as a longtime desktop user I have become accustomed to moving my Virtual Memory / Paging FIles to a disk that did not contain anything but storage - certainly not with the operating system or any other disk that was used for frequent writing or editing (audio, video files, etc). I have achieved great results that way on my desktops - and there are of course many other posts here on that subject. I now have two Thinkpads that I prefer to work on (X40, and R60 - both wonderful machines). I would like to do the same trick re the virtual memory on these. I have maxed out the memory on both machines. Of course I don't have extra fixed-discs to work with for doing this the conventional way with laptops. Any hard drive addition using the ultrabay on either will be used for frequent editing. My X40, with an 8gig SDHC card, and my R60, with a Lexar 4gig Expresscard seemed to be the best options for those Paging files. Although the kind folks at Lexar claimed to have accomplished this, I still have my doubts, as I was not able to. My question then is in two parts: is it true that WinXP will refuse to read & write those files to a removable disk?.... and, if so, is there some way to trick WinXP into recognizing either the SDHC Card or Lexar Expresscard on these machines as fixe...
