Sony DSC-P8 Camera Driver Fault in XP

Question: Sony DSC-P8 Camera Driver Fault in XP

How is it possible to get windows XP to load the device driver for my Sony DSC-P8 cybershot camera? The instruction manual claims that a seperate driver does not need to be installed if the camera is to be used with XP. However, XP realises that a USB device is attached but will not do anything without a driver. I have the sony driver but XP does not recognise it and will not find it to be present in a search. Please help, I have just bought the camera and would dearly love to be able to tansfer images to my PC.Thanks...

Preferred Solution: Sony DSC-P8 Camera Driver Fault in XP

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Sony DSC-P8 Camera Driver Fault in XP

Question: sony camera driver

I've Sony Vaio model: PCG-5l2l VGN-CR520E i've installed win7 but though it had the driver cam already by windows but it didn't work. I tried to install one of the 2 drivers from the support site but in vain, in the device manger it had a driver but when i try to use the cam it doesn't see it.
also not all the functions are working.

Thanks

Answer:sony camera driver

"I tried to install one of the 2 drivers from the support site but in vain"

You need to download and install both files listed for the camera on the Sony website.
They are both applications, not drivers. Both are required to make the camera usable in Windows 7.
The driver is already installed from the Windows 7 DVD, which is why Sony don't provide one.
They just provide the camera applications which have been updated to make them Windows 7 compatible.

Hi, I have a SZ340P, installed on W7 pro 64 bit, and I cannot install the drivers of the webcam.
The model is not supported on Sony website for Windows7, but many folks around managed to install it anyway. I did install it, and managed to install the appropriate drivers for anything but this webcam. Somebody was successfull installing driver from Ricoh (but for different models..VCC3-8).

The device ids are:
USB\VID_05CA&PID_1830&REV_0100
USB\VID_05CA&PID_1830

I tried all and every driver available online, but none of them work. I also tried to extract driver from installer that only worked on Vista or XP compatibility mode but no luck.
I replied to an old post, but im reopening a new one as well.

Any hint would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Sony Vaio SZ340P VCC2 camera driver

Have you tried this already?

Uninstall any and all webcam drivers and and then scan for new hardware changes.

Before doing this be sure that the following is set:
Start > type: "hardware" > choose: "Change Device Installation Settings"
Select: "No, let me choose..." > and then either:
"Always install the best driver software..." or
"Install driver software from Windows Update if it is not found on my computer".
Probably the first one is best for this. Then set it back to where you had it afterward.

I have a Kodak SD camera card that my Sony A230 stopped detecting when inserted. I have been using this card for a year with no problems till today. I can plug it in a card reader in any of my computers and remove or send photos to it so I don't think it is a contact issue. I was using the camera today when the battery became exhausted and it shut off during a shoot. Since then the camera won't detect it. What could the problem be?

Answer:Camera Card Not Detected in Sony A230 Camera

Just a wild guess at this point ... Might need to have the camera reformat the card

Hi Folks,
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FS640/w which will power on but fails to display on LCD. I have tried using the external graphics port to an LCD monitor which still doesn't work.
When you switch the laptop on it appears to go through its normal processes, checking for boot devices. Could the onboard graphics have decided to call it a day.

Also, anyone know where to get a service manual (free) for this laptop. It is a friends I said I would look at and would like to download the manual to make a start in taking the case apart.

All comments appreciated

Answer:Sony Vaio Display fault

Folks, got a bit more of an update on this. I thought that the laptop was still booting up in the background of no display. This doesn't appear to be the case. I removed the memory from the system to try and get some form of beep code to give me an idea of what the system is doing but got no beep code with memory removed.

Does this sound like a system board failure to anyone?

Hi,I have a sony vaio pc about 3 years old. The DVD burner will burn data dvd's but only with the Veritas software that came with the pc, not with any other of the many programmes I have purchased and downloaded. More importantly It has never burnt a video dvd. Whenever i get to the start burn part the computer asks to insert a blank dvd and never recognises anything I put in there. I have updated the drivers which were very difficult to find and this has made no difference. Is there anything I'm doing wrong or has missed?it is a sony DVD RW DW-U12A 2.0eAny help would be great. Thanks!Michael

Answer:Sony DVD Burner fault - why won't it work?

What are the OTHER programs? What type of Video content, home movies or something else?Obviously the drive recognises blank DVDs otherwise Veritas would not use them. Are you sure you are using the correct type of disk - PLUS or MINUS format?

Dear all,

My 8 months old Sony Vaio Z laptop is broken. The screen has gone completely black.

Sony says it my own fault and won't let the warrenty cover it. They says it coursed by a "fysical damage". But it happened while I was sitting in the couch opening the computer, which I think is normal use.

I think the enclosed images (provided by Sony) supports my case, showing that the damage happened in the lover corner of the screen exactly where you normally open / adjust the screen with your thumbs.

What do you think?

Thanks,

Andreas

Answer:Broken Sony LCD Screen - my fault?

To be honest it looks like you've pressed the screen to hard or put some weight on it. That can't happen from day to day use really.

Sony Vaio VGN-FS215S CDDVD RW fault Hi wonder if anyone can help.Have a Sony Laptop as above with a internal Sony DW-D56A CDDVDRW - The laptop recognises it and device manager says its working but it is not at all - the only thing it does is spins(when a cd is in) and ejects(when prompted)Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling without success and actually taking it out and putting back in.Have also tried to replace with an identical drive and also the updated DW-Q58A - whenever i put in a new drive and try to boot up the laptop i get a black screen and the message - operating system not found. The laptop will then not work at all - it will only work without the drive or with the supposed faulty drive installed or disabled - it will not work at all with a new drive and i've tried 3!! - the new drives do work as have passed them on to other people but am not sure if the original will work in another laptop.Think there must be something wrong with the laptop - has anyone got any ideas?thanks in advanceChi

Answer:Sony Vaio VGN-FS215S CDDVD RW fault

The problem with laptops is that they are so compact it is almost impossible to do any physical repairs to them without very specialised tools and equipment. If the machine is still under warranty then take it for repair at a Sony specialist. If not, consider how much you would be prepared to pay for repair and take it from there or, buy an external USB drive and use that. An external drive will most likely be almost as large as the computer but it will get you out of a fix without too much expenditure (probably cheaper than a repair).

Device Manager
Post back the results in device manager
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the screen shot and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

Hold the Windows key and press Pause key, should open to allow device manager to be seen, menu on the left hand side

Hi,Iam on holiday in California and my digital camera has decided to play up just as we have arrived at the Grand Canyon. It is a Pentax Optio 430 - about 3 years old. When I try to take a picture it switches on OK, the lens powers out but then it automatically powers down again.I can review pictures that I have taken OK but am unable to take any fresh ones.I have tried different batteries, CF cards etc to no avail. It is as though it times out straight away and shuts off before I can use it.It cost me about four hundred pounds three years ago after a recommendation in PCA. Is it possible to repair it myself? If not who would be a good repairer?Or shouldI just bin it?Thanks for any suggestions.Bob Swanson

Answer:Pentax Optio 430 Digital Camera Fault

Does it have any sort of reset option - reoving the battery overnight, for example, might reset it.Just a thought...Somehow I don't know about the viability of repair - the cost is likely to exceed the value of the camera.

I installed software named "Picture Package" and the manual says that USB driver will be installed at the same time when PP. But when I use the USB cable and connect my camera to the computer, it says "Windows was unable to locate the software for this device". Oh and I use WinME.

I tried to reinstall it a few times, but no luck. Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone know how to solve it?

Can't I just remove the camera from the cradle? Answer:Sony Vaio Bad Web Camera Quality

Although this Microsoft hotfix is for Vista I would imagine it would be OK for Windows 7 as well.

It can't hurt to give it a try, just create a system restore point first, in case you need to undo the fix.

You may find some support here too:

http://esupport.sony.com/EN/VAIO

And don't forget, as it is a new computer, it'll be under warranty, so you could also ask Sony to sort it out for you.

I have a brand new DSC-W350 cyber-shot digital still camera.I've only had it for 3mths now. Some days back,I removed the battery from the charger as usual and fixed it into the camera but the LCD screen just showed uniform whiteness when I put the camera on.At first I tot it was the brithness control of the LCD which I adjusted to the minimum, but the problem persisted. I have switched off the camera, removed the battery and have also done some trouble shooting but all to no avail. When the camera is powered on,all you see is uniform brightness, though you can make out faint images when focused on an object.I took some snap shot and imported them into my computer only to realise that the shot appeared okay when downloaded, the only problem been I didn't get a good shot since I couldn't make out from the LCD what I was snapping.I have gone through the entire manual and still could not find a solution to this. The trouble shooting steps on the manual rather instucted I looked for troublshooting icons on the LCD,but non was present. It's like there is no icon on the LCD suggesting a fault yet the LCD is uniformly very bright. Can you guys help out or is this really a major issue.

Many thanks guys.

Is it possible you cracked the LCD screen? It might look all white if cracked in the right place. Well, if it's not cracked, it still sounds broken, and Sony will fix it under warranty, although I bet you have to shop it there yourself.. Give their repair center a call.

Are you still running vista?

It may be as simple as re-installing the software for the camera. Your computer may have come with a cd containing the software, If not you can go to the sony site and download it

Let us know if you need help

Hi,

When I checked up it seems that there isnt a japanese make for the above Series. Is this information correct , if so what's the make I should look for if im buying a DSC-W230.
Is this a good Camera for its price.

Or is there any other camera I can look for, for the same price which has better specs/features.

Thanks.....................................

Answer:SONY W230 Digital CAMERA

The Jap companies seem to have good quality control over cameras assembled elsewhere. I haven’t encountered a quality control problem associated with where the camera was assembled, and I peruse the camera boards often.

The Sony W series has been good and are usually highly rated. Steve didn’t seem too impressed with the W230 though: http://www.steves-digicams.com/camera-reviews/sony/dsc-w230/sony-dsc-w230-review-6.html

You might read through this: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/Q408budgetgroup/page15.asp Unless you plan on making large prints for the wall or doing extreme crops you can easily get by with seven or eight Mp. I would personally prefer the W120 over the W230 because of the optical viewfinder. It also seems to have good optics and performance.

If you want a sub-compact 12Mp in that price range the W230 is probably as good as most.

I'm attempting to use my camera (Sony DSC-W5) with Win 8.1. The device manager tells me that the driver is up to date but then I get the message(below). Initially after boot up when I check the device manager there is no yellow triangle next to Sony DSC. But as soon as  I try anything the yellow triangle appears.I've uninstalled the driver and reinstalled etc.,etc. to no avail. The PC will not recognize the camera except it does make a noise(beep?) when turning the camera on and off. The other thing that seems odd is that when booting up the PC the mouse is not recognized if the camera is plugged in and turned on. Immediately upon removal of the camera the mouse works fine. My understanding from Sony is that this camera should work with this O/S.Any ideas would be appreciated. Thks. overthehill_________________________________This device cannot start. I have a sony cybershot DCS-T9 digital camera (6 mega pixel, MPEG1 compliant). I was planning to buy a video camera but some one adviced me to buy a memory stick instead and use it for video recordings. The cost of the memory stick is much less as compared to a new video camera. What are the limitations in using a still digital camera as a video camera.

I am posting this after reaching the point of frustration and having spent 2 days trying to find a solution.

I have a Sony VAIO VGN-FZ140E Laptop and after doing a fresh XP Pro SP3 install can't get the camera to work. The chipset is Intel(R) GM965 Express Chipset. I have tried

1) Installing SODOTH-12946300-US.EXE (Version : 1.1.07.04020, Last Modified :05/14/2007) - Problem remained
2) Downloading and installing the Camera Driver from
Code:
ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/pub/OS/XPDOWNGRADE/FZ19/DRIVERS/
but the problem remains

When I click on the USB Video Device in Windows Explorer I get the message
Video Preview Failure
Creation of the video preview failed.
Please check the device connection and make sure that the device is not being used by another application or user.

In Windows Explorer, when I right click on the USB Video Device and from the resulting dialog box, I click on Diagnostics, I get the following message
Your imaging device successfully completed the diagnostic test.

Can someone help me please.

Hello,
I have had a Sony F717 camera for more than 5 years now. Everything had been perfect until yesterday. When I turned on the camera, the LCD display does not show any images in any of the still-image-shoot mode.
The AF icon had turned itself on. But other than that I did not notice anything unusual.
Any suggestions on what might be going on ?

Thanks,

Hi,
Apart from trying fresh batteries and a new card, there is nothing else you can do other sending the camera for repair.

Recently, I turned on my Sony camera and it told me it was low on batteries and shut down, leaving the lens still out. Okay, well thats happend before and it'll fix after i replace the batteries. So i replace the batteries turn it on, and on the display it says "Lens Error, Please Shut off and Restart Camera" and I do that, and nothing happens.

Any Help?

Answer:Sony Camera Will Not Close Lens

Not a good sign on that one. I do know with Sony and Cannon cameras that you can push the lens back in manually and that will sometimes reset it. I don't recommend doing this unless it's a last resort. If you have a local shop that does camera repair they may be able to tell you if it's going to be expensive or not to fix.

Hello. I am running a stripped down version of WinXP Pro. When I connect my Sony DSC-W7 it recognizes the camera but does not have drivers for it. On other winxp machinces it reconginzes the memory stick as a removable drive. I have tried installing the Sony USB drivers, but that hasn't worked. Does anyone know what files I need for this to work? Are they generic camera drivers, or specific memory stick drivers?

Answer:Sony Camera usb problems: WinXP Pro

Let me guess.....this was a "stripped down version" built with Nlite? If so, this is just one more thread of many where people are left with a system less than what's needed.

You can check with Sony's website, but I've never found anything useful. Before you go rebuilding your system using a full disc, like it should be done, have you tried plugging in the camera and then running Windows Update?

For Christmas we purchased a Mavica FD75 that was accompanied by Photosuite software. We are operating an HP with Windows 98/SE along with Internet Explorer/Outlook Express.

The question I have is when I insert the floppy disc into the computer to download the photos - how can I simply e-mail them to our friends (e-mail size instead of gigantic size) instead of inserting them individually into my e-mail message? It is time-consuming inserting each one individually.

Also how can I edit out red eyes in Photosuite?

Thank you so much for any help you can give me.

My son recently bought a Sony DSC P 10 digital camera. It operates properly but he cannot get the software to load onto his computer in order to view etc the images. His OS is Windows XP Home Edition.Partway through installation of the software he received a message to install winaspi (whatever that is) and then reboot. He did this to be told it had not initialised and to try again. He rebooted again and this time the image icons appeared on screen. He then plugged in the digital camera via USB and was told it had found the new software. The Found New Software Wizard appeared but it said it could not find software on the computer for Sony DSC. He tried another USB with the same result, but this time a note appeared saying the problem occurred during hardware installation, hardware may not work properly. We later installed the same software onto my computer which has OS Windows Me and it installed and operated properly with the camera via USB.Can anyone suggest what the hardware problem might be, if indeed it is the hardware, and any suggestions for overcoming it. I hope I have explained it coherently enough to make some sort of sense. He has contacted the camera store but they are not helpful, blaming his computer.

Answer:Sony digital camera - software will not install

hi, i think that you dont need to install hardware, i may be wrong but when you plug the camera in via usb, xp should recognise it and load what it needs, then a window will appear like it would with a cd offering 'what would you like to do' simply click on the digital pictures wizard and wollah! away you go. failing that you may need to visit the sony website to download any software relating to xp. good luck!

Here is my problem: The tape will not insert into the camera. When the tape cavity is empty, the cavity closes and the camera is ready to operate (except for the message that there is no tape). When a tape is inserted into the cavity, however, the cavity remains stuck open and no further operation of the camera can be performed. HELP PLEASE. No matter what we do, we cannot get the tape to go into the camera. We have tons of tapes of our darling boy that we have been transferring to DVD, and if I can't play the tape, we won't be able to view them, let alone transfer them. Please don't tell me to take it to a Sony repair center. I have had enough trouble with this camera and Sony's service to last a lifetime. I recently had my Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W30 6.0 MP camera dropped and broken... I just purchased a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W100 8.1 MP camera on ebay, which includes battery, battery charger, 1GB memory card, memory adaptor and 12 in 1 USB 2.0 memory card reader - but NO USB cable.

Could I use my old USB cable to download my pictures from my new camera or are the models too different? If I can't, I was told that this memory card reader works for downloading pictures but I have no clue what this is or how to use it. Could someone let me know as well?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Sony digital camera USB cord question

Yes you can use the old USB cable, as long as you have the small USB connection on your camera ....

The memory card reader is just a slot on the front of the computer,as a rule, and you can remove the memory card from the camera and plug it into this slot, provided its a "newish" computer you should have this slot ...its quicker than using USB too ....

Hey everybody.
I've been trying to return my little Sony Vaio VGN-UX380N Micro-PC to a close to original state. I have downloaded almost all the drivers that available for this machine, but the back camera still will not work. This is one of those little hand-held vaio's that has a camera in the front and one in the back, but when I load the camera capture software, the one in the back does not show up. I've actually gotten everything else to work properly (finger print reader, bluetooth, touch screen) but just not that back camera.
Does anybody have any insight into these machines or know what could causing the driver not to install correctly?

Answer:sony camera creating random files

Not sure if it's a fault with the camera or maybe the card needs replacing. Obviously, a new card will soon answer that one.
Make sure you format the new card with your camera, even though it may already be formatted. Formatting it in the camera will ensure that it's recognised and prepared properly.

Hello,

I'm experiencing problems when I plug in my sony DSC s-70 camera (via usb) to my computer. I'm running Windows XP home. I had been using the camera for months with Windows XP with no problems, but 2 days ago (after I installed a service pack update that I downloaded from mircosoft) Windows begin to recognize the camera as a "new device" every time I plug it in to my usb port. I get the "new hardware found" message and then the camera wizard pops up. Before I have time enough to click on the camera wizard and dowload photos the computer automatically reboots. I have tried switching usb ports, closing out the "new hardware detected" message, not using the wizard to download photos, but I cannot stop the system from rebooting a few seconds after I plug in the camera. I'm trying to avoid a reformat, but I don't know of a way to remove the service pack I installed, and I'm not familiar with any way of defeating plug and play while still being able to download photos via usb. Any ideas? Thank you

I recently received a SONY DSC-N2 Digital camera which I used to record a video image of my son's wedding vows. It turned out GREAT, but it's also too large to Upload to his Picasa Web site. The Picasa limit is 100 MB, and my file is about 160 MB.

Does anyone know of any Freeware that will allow me to split the .mpg file into two smaller files, each of which will still maintain the video and audio of the original recording ?

Hey, guys. You are my last hope on this one!
A friend has some flood videos he took with a Sony Video cam, which records to mini DVDs. He asked me to transfer both to a standard DVD. I foolishly said: "No problem...if I can see it, or hear it, I can copy it!" LOL
That has always been true, up to now. I will refer to them as DVD 1 and 2, with DVD 1 appearing to have the actual glitch, about 2 minutes into the movie.

Both original mini dvds will play on my computer with Windows media player, but dvd 1 usually hangs in the Nero player, about 2 minutes into the 12 minute video. Dvd 2 plays fine in anything.

I have late versions of Nero, Ulead, and Creator. No matter what I copy with, somewhere in the copy of dvd 1, either the video or audio (sometimes both) will hang, sometimes stopping the movie entirely, or if just the audio hangs, the video continues. I can make an exact direct copy of each mini dvd to standard DVDs, (however, dvd 1 still hangs in some machines) but not both on one. I have tried copying the copies I made of each, onto one. No dice. In some of the copies, the video will continue, but the sound will become garbled, barely understandable. In one copy, everything worked till about halfway into the second movie, where the sound quit, but the video continued.
I even transferred dvd 1 to a VHS tape on my DVD player/VHS recorder combo, then sent through my capture card to the computer. Plays fine till I transfer it to DVD!
I have reformatted each into Av... Read more
