New hardware instal fails to find drivers

Question: New hardware instal fails to find drivers

PC with Windows ME. When instaling new hardware, system searches for drivers and frequently fails to find them, apparently because it is looking in the directory. For example, I was installing a USB linked magnetic card reader and the following message appeared in a window headed 'New Hardware Found'."File USBNTMAP.SYS was not foundWindows needs the disk labelled Windows Millenium Edition to continue. This disk may be provided by your computer or device manufacturer.Copy files from C:|Program files\Creative\....."If I then use the browse button to point the system at C:\Windows\system32\driversit sometimes works, and anyway the files it is looking for are invariably some within the Windows directory. Is there any way I can get the system to look in the right place automatically in stead of looking in the Creative soundblaster directory for a standard Windows ME driver??!!??Any help will be gratefully received.MJ

Preferred Solution: New hardware instal fails to find drivers

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: New hardware instal fails to find drivers

sorry i dont know why its not working.i would download them from the manufacturers website that way you will get the latest version of the driver.the ones on the disc will be out of date.

I am getting BSOD at random times, although I think I get them more when I'm watching videos on VLC (a lot of times VLC will just crash, other times it will BSOD). I also get BSOD while doing other things, as well as crashes on other apps like Firefox as well. I also recently replaced my HDD to a SSD because the HDD started giving SMART warning, however I'm still getting BSOD/app crashes.

I looked online at the BSOD error messages, and decided to try the Driver Verifier tool. When I run with only non-Microsoft drivers, nothing happen (still got one crash, but I think it was just a normal random crash). However, when I ran verifier with only Microsoft drivers, I can't boot. I will BSOD right after my Asus logo, and the error will say DRIVER_VERIFIER_DETECTED_VIOLATION.

Some of the BSOD crash errors I've gotten:
BAD_POOL_HEADER --> ntoskrnl.exe

I got driver_irql_not_less_or_equal three times in the past few days, and bad_pool_header twice.

I also have an entry on BlueScreenView that is blank under "Bug Check String", but points to driver ndis.sys.

Things I have tried:
sfc /scannow
Memtest86 (6 passes)
Replaced HDD (to SDD)
LinX (Around 70 minutes)
Heaven Benchmark (Around 40 minutes)
Swap RAM slots (this is a laptop, and I only have 1 RAM piece)

Hi i just put a new copy of windows XP on my dell optiplex GX260. I do not have the driver disk but i think i was able to recover most the drivers online. The reason i am telling you this is because i think it might be a missing driver problem but i am not sure. Any ways.....

I have tryed 3 diffrent pices of hardware. 2 of them being USB internet adapters and the other one is a pci wirless internet card. Non of them will install the drivers. Its kind of weird the USB keyboard and mouse worked. I go to the device manager and it shows a ! icon.

It says the hardware has not been installed because it cannot find the necisary software. Well I did install the CD's one of the adapters does not even come with a cd its just supposed to be poped in, instaled and ready to go. I tested them on another comp and they worked fine.

my astranet ia101 scanner has a problem. i need to reinstall it to my pc, because of a hard drive crash and the techs had to wipe and reformat my drive, so i have to put everything back on it. i have reinstalled it before many times with no problem, but this time for some reason, my computer won't find the device driver for it now. i installed it with my disc that came with the scanner, and i also tried with a download from the umax website. when i restart my pc, windows recognizes that there is new hardware, but cannot find the driver. when i click on the vistascan icon, it tries to find it, but says, error, scanner access failed. everytime i run the windows add hardware wizard, it says cannot locate drivers for the scanner. the windows hardware wizard always asks me to put the windows 98 cd in, but the drivers aren't there. they are on the scanner cd and on my computer somewhere. after i installed the vistascan from the disc, it said successful install. the vista shuttle and the copy utility are fine- just the vista scan. how do i solve this? i have windows 98 on my pc.

Been dealing with a dozen different issues to get my new PC working. I'm finally just giving in to repairing Windows XP. However, my Windows XP installation that I want to repair and use is on a SATA RAID. Just 2 HDDs. Despite my motherboard recognizing the healthy RAID, the Windows XP install doesn't.

Of course, I figure it's because it needs the whole F6 + floppy disk thing with SATA and RAID drivers. Well wonderful, because I can't make the floppy because the only PC I can make the floppy with... is the one I'm trying to put Windows XP on. To make matters worse, XFX decided to make it impossible to simply access the SATA and RAID drivers, they need to be directly written to a floppy.

Solution? Virtual floppy disk drive. Ran the "Create RAID Drivers Disk" option on the XFX Driver CD. Transferred the drivers out of the virtual floppy disk. Used nLite to integrate the drivers into a new Windows XP install disc, based off of the one that came with my HP Laptop through my college. Viola, no longer need the F6 + Floppy Disk step.

Except I still get "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.". What the bloody hell? Was that not the entire point of the driver integration?

Motherboard is XFX GeForce 8200. Two 150GB SATA drives in RAID 0 connected. OS is Windows XP SP 2. Motherboard recognizes the RAID but Windows XP SP 2 installer doesn't despite slipstream integration of drivers with nLite.

Answer:Slipstreamed SATA/RAID Drivers on Installation - Setup fails to find HDDs

Well, more wonderful news. Used a public PC to make the RAID disk, since the slipstreamed CD is being a POS. Tried the original CD *and* the slipstreamed CD: Press F6, press S, press enter. Says "Please wait..." then it returns to the previous screen... so I press enter again. Same thing. Thought maybe the diskette was FUBAR. So I used a blank one and it responded with not finding a "txtsetupOEM" or some such, which is good, because that's true. Except that means it's clearly finding it on the RAID diskette but it chooses to be a ***** and not do anything more than that.

So this is bloody pissing me off because I haven't had a single thing succeed here. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them, because I'm 100% out of ideas.

So, my computer suddenly started finding a handful of devices it can't find drivers for. I didn't add any new hardware. After trying all I could think of I resorted to trying a clean install. Sadly that did not help.

Can someone advise me on where to begin to diagnose this problem? Obviously I'm not very experienced with this.

I'm sure you'll need more information to truly help with this, but I'm not sure what to provide or how to obtain it.

Answer:No new hardware, can't find drivers even after clean install

Please provide more information. What do you mean your system is finding devices for which it can't find drivers? Please explain IN DETAIL.

Also, after the clean install did you download and install the chipset driver followed by all other appropriate drivers? Look in device manager - any yellow or red symbols?

Hi all, until last night everything was ok. After I'd cleaned the computer and plugged everything back in windows decides it can't find drivers for any of my usb devices (keyboard, mouse, camera, gamepad, joystick).

When it finds them it says new hardware found. with 3 choices:
Locate and install driver
Ask me again later
Don't show this message again

So I click the first option, and it searches for drivers but...'Could not find driver software'. I then click 'Check online for a solution' with no luck.

These devices are so basic that the manufacturers don't supply drivers for the products; they should all be with the OS.

What can I do guys? I'm a keen photographer and not being able to upload my photos via the camera or card reader is a real issue for me.

By the way the above process happens for all the usb hardware I have except the printer, usb flash drive, mouse and keyboard (luckily!)

I've tryed to get the driver for my T43 laptop from this page: My  machine type is 1871-A32 and in this page it says:  - *2 Machine Types 18xx of ThinkPad T43 family are not supported. After try to install the Net Framework 2 it ask me to restart, but when I start again the installer, it ask me again to install the framework. Checking the contents of the driver installation folder (C:\DRIVERS\WIN\DISPLAY) I notice a folder NET32 which has the Net Framework installer (dotnetfx.exe). I try to install it manually and I get the error "Setup cannot continue because this version of the .NET Framework is incompatible with a previously installed one." and that's because my framework version is SP2, but the installer fails to detect it and stops all the installation process. I want yor help to get a link to download the correct driver and/or get this driver installed. Thanks in advance.

Hello, I have tried installing Windows Vista SP1 roughly 8-10 times now, with no luck any time. It always gets to 98% complete on the first stage, then sits there for awhile before reverting, rebooting, and trying again.

First time I got error code 0x800F0826, and Microsoft directs me here: Error message when you try to install Windows Vista Service Pack 1: "Installation was not successful" or "An internal error occurred while installing the service pack"

None of the resolutions work.

Then I got this message a few times 0x800705B4
Which I have read is a "Timed out" error.

Its always at 98% on stage 1 of 3 that it hangs up before it fails and reverts.

I have given my manufacturer remote access to my PC, they re-registered the windows update dll files, removed any pending/queued updates that may have been causing it to fail(which also cleaned out my update history) and had me download a file titled Windows6.0-KB936330-X86-wave0.exe from Microsoft.

Still no luck, same errors, same time of the install. I have also download and burned to a disk the .ISO file Microsoft has to download of SP1, with no luck still, again same errors at the same time.

If someone could help, it would be much appreciated.

Here is some information from my computer I think might be useful, let me know how to get more of what you need to know if there is any.

I use the MS Wireless Keyboard 1000 and MS Wireless Optical Mouse 2000 with my HP HDX 16t (dual core) notebook running Windows 7 x64.

I installed both Intellipoint 7.0 and Intellitype 7.0. About 50% of the time when I boot, the mouse driver fails ("This device cannot start"). I have to manually uninstall the driver and then search for new devices. It re-installs the driver and then the mouse works fine.

Windows update had 3 recent files--update to Intellitype and to Intellipoint I think. Also a MS Mouse and Keyboard Detection Driver (USB), Driver ID = 20305405. It fails to install after many attempts. I've tried turning off all start-up programs without success. Error code 80070103. I think if this could get installed it would end my mouse driver problem. Try uninstalling Intellipoint and Intellitype. Reboot, and let Windows find the drivers automatically. You shouldn't even need those installed.

A while back i posted a thread for help, unfortunately i cleaned the computer before hand with cc cleaner, so all logs where gone. BSOD occured randomly while using the computer. Only browsing etc, no gaming or heavy programs.

Because of deleting all the logs i decided to update all drivers, clean the pc and try again. (The computer is not mine, parents in law. They only use it for internet.)

They told me it was still getting BSOD, so i decided to give it a fresh install.

I installed an MSDN version of Windows 7 Professional with a legal key. The computer ran without any problems, updating drivers untilll suddenly a BSOD occured. The fresh installation was only 10 hours old, with a total use of maybe 2 hours.

I now installed a 86x OS, before the clean install it ran a 64x OS of Windows 7. It only has 3GB of memory.

Anyone have an idea of what the problem could be? I think it hassomething to do with the hardware.

Thank you in advance!

Hi Guys,
This is my first post on here so hopefully i've provided enough detail!
I upgraded my U410 to Windows 10 a few months back but decided to do a clean install yesterday as i wanted a fresh OS.
I deleted all of the partitions as required and the installation proved to be a success.  However now i can't find the SSD anywhere: bios, disk manager or device manager and i want to install Intel RST so that my laptop runs quick again.
I have read through all the posts on here and have tried loading the default settings in the bios but i always end up with a blue screen error message saying: EFI network 0 for IPv4 boot failed.
The second recommendation i saw was to set the SATA controller mode from RAID to ACHI but, this may be me being stupid, i can't see this option anywhere in the bios?
I'm at a bit of a loose end now as i don't know what else to try so if anyone has any ideas that would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

Answer:Can't instal Windows x64 need Drivers

hi Tokarq,
Welcome to the Forums.
If you're getting the "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing" or "A media driver your computer needs is missing" error when installing Windows then you may want to check this microsoft article as it maybe caused by one of the following:
 - The installation DVD is removed during the setup process.  - A low-quality DVD was used to create the installation DVD.  - The speed at which the installation DVD was burned was too fast.  - The DVD drive cannot read the media.  - The ISO file is corrupted.
In addition, you can also try these steps:
1. If you downloaded the Win7 64-bit ISO from the microsoft website, verify that the ISO is not corrupted by comparing the MD5 / SHA1 Hash from the microsoft site. To get the hash, download and install the Microsoft File Checksum Integrity Verifier and foillow this guide.
2. If you're using a Win7 64-bit DVD installer, try to follow this guide on how to create a bootable Windows 7 64-bit USB installer and use the USB 2.0 port to install Windows.

Hi! I'm new to the forum. Maybe someone can help me with this "pickle" of a problem.

I am running x64 version of Windows Vista Business and I've discovered that I need to install some x86 drivers. However, when I do I get this message:

[The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.]

The error message occurs when I try to execute the setup program for the Microsoft Sidewinder Pro Force Feedback joystick. I know its old and came out before there was even such a thing as x64. I would like to know if it is at all possible to still install x86 drivers by overriding or disabling the security in Vista with the slight chance they may work, even if it is only partial functionality.

I've tried running setup in XP Compatibility Mode without success.

Am I just being silly here or can it be done? Somehow I thought it might be backwards compatible.

Answer:Instal x86 drivers on a x64 Vista?

You can run most 32 bit software but when it come to drivers they have to be 64bit.

I have upgraded an esisting installation with a new MOBO (Abit AV8) and CPU (3500+ Skt 939). I retained my XP installation on one 30GB WD HDD and data on anothe 120 GB WD HDD, both HDD installed on PATA IDE channels. All was fine

I then installed a SATA drive on SATA1 and formated it and all seemed OK but startup slowed, programmes in the startup tray did not load and occasionally the drive vanished. With this set up I assume that XP is using default drivers not the VIA drivers and that may be my problem. I have read to install the drivers I need to re-install XP!(f6 at the blue screen install SCSSI etc). If I do this can I just install the new drivers or do I have to re-install the whole of XP as that seems OTT for just one driver

Answer:Instal SATA DRivers On XP (SR2)

Before you get any farther, I want to warn you about something pretty critical that another user learned the hard way.

If you have SP2 installed on your computer, you cannot do a "Repair" installation on the O/S without an installation disk that has SP2. I advised one user to do a "reinstallation" and didn't mention this and he "forced" it and overwrote all his data because of this. If at some point in the future you need to do a "repair" installation, and if you don't have SP2 already on your Installation CD, you need to make a new installation CD by "slipstreaming" the Service Pack into the old install data. It's not hard to do, and a very handy thing to have anyways.

I have read to install the drivers I need to re-install XP

Please post a link where you read that; that does not sound right. HD drivers are no big deal and that just sounds wrong.

Have you read your HD installation manual/guide or readme file ? I am sure they should have specific installation instructions for getting SATA drives to work with Xp.

Hi I recently had to complete a fresh OS instal following the PCI card which ceased to want to be recognised by Windows. That cured the problem but am left now with two devices not being recognies by the syste. One is SM Bus Controller and the other just states Unknown device. I also note that it is only seeing one of the hard drives now and none of the ThinkPad short cut buttons work. However, the lap top is funcioning normally. Does anyone have any idea what could cause this, have I missed a step somewhere. Thanks in advance, Liam

Answer:Two missing drivers after instal

It sounds like it may be your Intel Remote Systems Management, if I'm correct then try rebooting into your BIOS menu and find the Intel SM manager menu and disable it at the low BIOS level. At next boot, the devices should be hidden from the OS and the new hardware detected issue / devmgmt.msc unknown devices should be gone.

Hey Guys, I have a Gateway ML6720 notebook that came with Vista ( processor: Intel® Dual-Core Mobile Processor T2310 1.46 GHz and memory: 1024 MB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM (2 × 512) Operates at 533 MHz). I would like to "UPGRADE" to win XP Home but the hard drive isn't seen because it's missing the xp sata drivers. I already went to gateways driver site and downloaded the 32bit sata/ mass storage controller, the chipset wich supports XP and the Sigma Tel Audio Driver. I am going to use "nlite" to slipstream the drivers into the XP install disk but have a few questions because I have never done this. First, do I need to insert all drivers into the xp install or just the sata/ mass controller? And If anyone has ever done this could I get you to walk me through it? I appreciate your time and effort! By the Way, the laptop doe NOT have a floppy and I do not have a usb floppy.

Answer:Solved: Help with slipstreaming drivers into xp instal disk

I think you're making a big mistake by downgrading from Vista to XP.

I don't see XP drivers at the Gateway site for that laptop for the wired adapter and wireless adapter and display adapter, so you're going to have a connection problem and a display problem after you get XP installed.

It may not be necessary to slip-stream the SATA drivers into the XP CD. Examine the settings in the BIOS setup screen and see if there's an option to enable IDE support.

I recently bought a used Sapphire HD7970 GHZ Edition 3GB, which I got quite cheaply but it did need a little work doing to it.

Firstly the fan cable had, in the hands of the original user, somehow snapped and they had repaired it to run on a normal motherboard 4 pin fan lead. When I got the card the DIY repair had practically fallen apart but I was able to reconnect it all and both fans do spin (not sure if they are running fast enough but they are spinning and moving a little bit of air).

Anyway, second problem was the card had one of the two BIOSes flashed with an incorrect BIOS (seller said it was a BIOS of a different model of 7970) and needs reflashing.

So I fixed the fan lead, verified at least some cooling was happening and was able to get to Windows (8.1 64 bit) with it. However, in the device manager the card has the yellow exclamation mark and says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)". I tried installing the AMD drivers regardless but they fail with warnings though still prompt to reboot, I rebooted on the hope they might have still installed but next thing Windows blue screens (well the Windows 8 version of it) with an unhandled exception warning and does this every time until I make it do a system restore then the card operates like it did before in that it outputs a picture but won't take the driver and fails to run anything more than 2D applications.

The seller has confirmed the good BIOS is already selec... Read more

Hi there, Hopefully you can help.I recently purchased a S500 notepad for work and have installed windows 7 and all drivers have installed fine.  However I cannot get the wireless drivers to instal and make teh device work. After many hours trying to fix this I have come to a dead end.  I know I need one of the power management tools but I'm not sure which one to get.  I have installed a Windows 7 64bit version but the fn f5 key does not work so i assume i have installed the wrong one.  Any thought on which one to get?I have downloaded the windows 7 drivers and process through the instal as far as I can until I see a cmd style window pop up and dissappear then nothing happens after this and hte drivers seem to not complete installation. If you can shed some light on this that would be great and if you need any more information please let me know. Many thanks for your time.

Answer:S500 Notepad Downgraded to Windows 7 now cannot get Wifi drivers to instal

I have S300 but I already see S500 download page. You mentioned that you want- WiFi Driver- on Windows7- 64 bit It has only one option on the page so I think it unlikely you got the wrong driver by clicking a wrong link. make sure that the downloaded file has correct content. The simple way to verify this is see when Windows7 ask for administrative privilege the dialog box is blue (not yellow) so you can verify that it was digitally signed by lenovo. If the driver is fine you can check in Device Manager if it installed correctly. If not you may see Unknown Device in the listcopy the Hardware Ids of unknown device and paste it heresomeone may able to help you out.

Hi so my old GT240 card died on me so I bought a new Sapphire HD5770 1GB Vapor-X card. It arrived this morning, I uninstalled the old Nvidia Drivers, put the card in the PCI-E Slot, booted the computer, put the driver CD in, ran the installer and I got a message at the end of the install saying there were problems, I opened up the log file and nothing seemed to be wrong. But the drivers or the Catalyst Control Panel didn't even install! Im stuck on this really rubbish resolution and can't play games. I've tried driver sweeper to get rid of nvidia drivers and then tried reinstalling and that didn't work.

I have an old dual core system which I bought about 6 mths ago with win 7. *Has 3mhz dual core, C drive 50 gb space, 1 GB Ram.
-As it sluggish, I installed XP after using UBCD to partition and used my laptop's XP slipstreamed CD with its drivers to install.

I do not have an original xp cd as it got damaged but have a license and registered at Microsoft to enable. Had a couple of driver Ethernet & graphic problems but resolved. Its now working smoothly.

As I have to send it away to my hometown for work use where people may not be expertised, I have to give them a bootable CD in case of trouble.
So from my old xp cd saved on HDD, I used imgburn to create a bootable CD following all parameters and needed to test.

Now when system starts (cdrom first boot enabled) it goes to "Setup is inspecting your hardware..." screen and subsequently its just blank.
Could someone help as I need to resolve this.

Answer:[SOLVED] XP instal stops at "Setup is inspecting your hardware..."

used my laptop's XP slipstreamed CD with its drivers to install.

So, did you create an ISO image of your XP CD with IMGBurn? If so, it may not have gotten all of the files. Try it again.
Using an OEM XP CD from a different manufacturer is also a bad idea, as it loads drivers not specific to your hardware and may not load
But since your computer was Sluggish, I would expect that your HDD has some issues. Download the ISO image for Seatools in my signature and burn the image to CD with IMGBurn and boot off of the newly created CD and run the Short and Long tests on the HDD. If either test fails, the HDD needs to be replaced.

I've been experimenting installing Windows 10 FCU on an old 2004 PC (see System 2 spec).

I originally installed a cheap Windows 7 licence then did an in place upgrade to Windows 10 which is activated with a digital licence linked to my MS account.

I then found some cheap RAM to increase the memory from 2GB to 4GB and replaced the HDD with a cheap SSD. Windows is still activated. I've also found a cheap CPU upgrade for the same motherboard. Do you think Windows will stay activated if I upgrade the CPU or am I pushing my luck?

I read somewhere the PC's activation signature is determined from the licence code and hardware configuration. Is the hardware configuration always referenced to the initial installation of Windows 10 or is it amended as you make changes to the hardware?

Answer:How Many Hardware Changes Before Activation Fails?

From mine and other peoples testing, it seem there is a limit of three times a digital licence can be transferred.

However, if original 7 key is full retail (unlikely if cheap), you can install windows 7 an unlimited number of times (only on one pc at a time), but will need to use telephone activation periodically.

Once windows 7 licence is transferred to a new pc, you can install windows 10 and use windows 7 key to activate.

so i decided to build my first desktop since win 98 was a thing. Not working out great atm and looking for some help before i throw it out the window (like i did 15 years ago when i had my last windows computer)

i built my system approx 4 weeks ago and i worked perfectly the first 3, it contained:
I7 8700k
Asus z370-e motherboard
2x8gb Gskill tridentz 3200mhz memory
evga gtx 1080 sc
evga supernova 650w g2
samsung 960 evo 240gb
Some SSD 500gb
AIO from corsair

a few days ago my screen started to freeze, i updated drivers and eventually reformatted my computer, didnt help so i went to my retailer with the GPU and they tested it and found i broken. i was given a new GPU, a gtz 1080 from Asus this time.
all was well for a day but suddenly i was getting shitloads of bluescreens, the kind internet said update drivers do some tests or reformat - i reformatted the hard drive but it didnt help so i suspect more hard ware is broken, is that even possible?

i have to write this on my mac so i cant provide event logs but the blue screens said (among many other things) :
kmode exception not handled
DPC watchdogs something
IRQL less or equal
intelppm.sys something
kmode exception not handled

I did memtest, chkdsk, sfc scannow, full update windows and drivers up to date.
any idea what can be wrong? PSU killing stuff off? MoBo?

sorry for the long post

Problems started after the last hard-drive partitions adjustments using 'Partition Magic 8.0'. Microsoft updates also occurred unintentionally during the reboot. The'Found new hardware wizard' now pops-up for each partition during 'start up' but says it failed installation. However, the computer seems to generally function OK, but another problem is 'new flash memory sticks' do not show up in 'my computer window' although the 'new hardware wizard' window opens it fails to install these USB items. (They do show under 'unknown items' in the 'device manager' along with the nine partitons plus yellow '?'.) Flash memories previously used on my computer work normally.
Also my Keyboard keys do not work during booting?

"We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this"

Do I need to install the new mobo's drivers to get Win Xp to run? If so how to I get the machine to boot from CD?

Is it better to use the drivers provided by toshiba (nvidia, synaptics,...) or should i install it from the official hardware manufacterer as they have more recent drivers than the one on toshiba site.

Answer:Question about drivers (hardware manufacterer vs toshiba drivers)

Generally speaking the drivers from Toshiba page should be used since such drivers are tested by Toshiba.
For example the display driver from Toshiba supports some kind of overheating protection and clock down the GPU if the temperature would be too high? in such case the performance would be decreased for a short time but this would lower the temperature? as far as I know the drivers from chip manufacturers don?t support such feature?
So the usage of such drivers is your own risk?

At the other hand you can install Synaptics drivers from manufacturer page. There is no risk.

Hey guys, theres something wrong with my pc and i don't know what it is. When i press the power button the pc starts its cycle but nothing is displayed on scren, this continues for about 10 seconds and the in restarts and the second time it boots (nothing displayed) it hangs in cycle endlessly. I swaped out graphics cards and thats wasn't the case nor was it the ram. I doubt its the processor. I'm left to believe its either the mobo or the harddrive, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

Answer:Computer fails boot (hardware related)

Disconnect everything except the video, memory and graphics. If it still gives no display, you have a bad board, bad CPU, bad graphics card, or bad memory. If you have more than one memory chip, try them one at a time. If it still doesn't work, try another video card. Then you're down to CPU and board.

Hey, i know im new here but i am having some very serious problems with any usb devices that i hook up to my motherboard. it is a brand new copy of windows after my last hard drive crashed. I try to connect my ipod after installing up to date itunes and ipod updater but found new hardware wizard pops up asking if i want to install, i click next next and then it says there was a problem while installing your device.

then with a brand new hp all in one printer, the software installs fine and then when i connect the printer the "FNHW" (FOUND NEW HARDWARE WIZARD" pops up and says there was a problem while installing your new hard ware, a inf file couldn't be extracted or something like that.

same thing with a different printer. i can't use anything via usb right now.

my specs

ati 9600 video card
1 gb patriot pc3200 ram
creative sound blaster 2zs platinum

Answer:found new hardware wizard fails for anything connected to USB

Do you have the right drivers for your devices?
When you get the error message of the inf file couldnt be
extracted that is probably the problem. If the device brought a install CD make sure this is inserted before clicking next on the New Hardware Wizard. If you downloaded the drivers or something make sure you are giving the correct path to the inf file.

Ok so a while ago my computer randomly refused to turn itself on. The computer would power up and the fans would run, however all I would get is a Long beep followed by three shorter beeps from the computer. This would repeat over and over whilst nothing would boot up - no image displayed on the screen - nothing.Upon some reasearch about my motherboard it appears that the beeps are reporting a graphics card linked problem - so I tried removing the graphics card and RAM and reseating it - however that still failed to produce any change. I then tried resetting the motherboard by remove the battery for a few moments - since then the unit now shuts down after each series of error beeps and restarts - to again beep and then shutdown. From what I have found so far it appears to be saying that either:1) the motherboard is dead2) the graphics cards is dead3) both components are dead. Sadly I don't have a second compatable computer to try testing the graphics card in - however I was wondering if any here would beable to shed some light on the situation and maybe suggest some possible alternatives before I try replacing the components. For reference the components I have are :Asus P5B Delux motherboardAsus Nvida Geforce 8800 GTXIntel Pentium duel core processor (I've honestly forgotten the details and unless I can only read the front of the fan component details on this)Any help would be greatly appreciated. At the moment I am thinking that I will have to search out a replace... Read more

Answer:Computer fails to start - possible hardware problems

After doing some reaserch, there are (I think) two possable problems:1) Bad hard drive. To test this, try swapping hard drives with another computer. If it does not boot, you have your problem!2) If you have an extra RAM stick, try taking out all the current ram in the pc, and swap them for just that one stick. If it boots, you have your problem!

I have a Lenovo T61 with over a year of warranty left.  Earlier this week the laptop crashed about 10 times over two days.  In addition, if I move the display back past a certain angle (not very far past 90 degrees) the display corrupts.  Today it crashed once.  A blue screen appears that says this exactly: *** Hardware malfunctionCall your hardware vendor for supportNMI: Parity Check / Memory Parity Error*** The system has halted *** On Wednesday and today I attempted to reach Lenovo support via phone (the only option I could find).  Both times I gave up after more than an hour on hold without having spoken to a single human, even to be transferred.  I desperately need this issue resolved (it's for a client) and Lenovo quickly slipping in my eyes as far as customer support goes.  My company has many clients in the DC area, and we procure a very large number of laptops per year.  We're quickly determining that other brands will replace Lenovo unless this terrible service stops. What do I have to do to get Lenovo to honor their warranty and stand behind their product?

Hi guys  I am new to the forums and I don't know much about computers but they are interesting.I think my computer got a really deadly virus as when I try turning it on, it just goes automatically to system options. However no drivers show up and it tells me to click on load drivers for my hard disks. I'm using vista and I don't know where to click on as system32 comes up with many other files in it. I have researched a bit and I think it is a corrupted  file but I still don't know anything. I went next without loading a driver, I tried to click full restore, systemrestore etc but it won't let me. I repaired it but it still won't work. I just don't know what driver my hard disks runs on and how can I fix this? Thanks.

HP Spectre 14t-3200
Earlier today, Steam was refusing to open so I did a hard reset by disconnecting the battery. Steam worked afterwards but now my computer has no sound. There is a red x next to the speaker in the task bar. When clicking on it it goes directly to "detecting problems" and then states "troubleshooting cannot find the problem."
I did a system restore to 4 days ago and it did not solve the issue.
I downloaded the IDT driver off of hp's website and I get the error message "The hardware detected is not supported by this IDT Software Package" when I attempt an install.
In device manager, under "sound, video and game controllers," I have "intel display audio." When clicking on properties for that it states "the device is working properly."If I go to volume mixer it says "no audio device is installed."
Bluetooth speakers DO work.
My computer has beats audio and the little light under the "b" is not lit, but the computer is running pretty warm underneath the right palm rest, where the audio knob is located.
I have absolutely no idea what to do.

NOTE: I have severe eye problems. If I do not respond to your postings, please PM another staff member for assistance.

I cannot understand what you've posted.
1 - make sure that you have your recovery disks
2 - backup your data
3 - wipe the entire hard drive with DBAN or KillDisk (both are free). Disconnect any otyer hard drives
4 - reinstall Windows from the recovery disks

Report any errors and exactly where they occur in the installation process.
In most cases it's either the Hard Drive, Memory (RAM), or a bad CD/DVD
Run diagnostcs for Hard Drive and RAM, try another CD/DVD to see if it's the recovery disk that's bad.

Hi there,

I have an HP Pavilion DV7 2185dx laptop running a freshly installed windows 7 upgrade from windows Vista. Ever since the upgrade my CPU is constantly running at 98-100% all the time meaning I cannot do anything on my PC. After researching a bit online it could possibly be the driver errors I see in device manager?

In device manager I see that I have some drivers missing and all attempts to update these have failed and i've seen other users here post the missing drivers and be directed to the fixes.

My installation of Windows 10 Pro is a free upgrade from Windows 8.1 Pro but now fails due to the hardware change. So I've run in to a bit of a problem. I've inherited a network that has over 250 nodes on it, and it basically completely flat and un-managed.

I'm working on sorting out this mess however I've run into a snag, I've got a number of hosts which will respond to ping requests, however they will not return any Hostname or NetBIOS information which makes it rather hard to determine what/where they are. I'm wondering if anyone knows of any tools out there which may assist me in this as my searching so far as turned up pretty much nothing.

Thanks in advance

I am trying to do a Repair Install to clear a problem I having with Windows Update.
When I boot from the Win 7 SP1 DVD it starts OK and then stops asking for the driver for the DVD Writer.
This is the DVD writer that was installed OK the first time I installed Win 7.
The DVD drive has been functioning perfectly but I need to get the driver to satisfy the Install process.
The drive is a TSST corp CDDVDW SH-224DB CDRom
The driver that is currently running the drive is cdrom.sys according to the device manager properties display.

If the driver was found the first time Win 7 was installed surely the driver must be on the DVD so what is wrong?

Answer:Win 7 SP1 install fails to find DVD driver

You do not need a new driver for your optical drive. Either your optical drive needs a firmware update which can be found @ or the drive has a problem and needs to be replaced. Please remember to click ?Mark as Answer? on the post that helps you, and to click ?Unmark as Answer? if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hi ,
I done bad.
I've been creating system image backups on a network drive and copying them to different directories to keep multiple backups. I copied the files and directories in the <Computer_Name> directory somewhere else and removed the original WindowsImageBackup and sub directories. I know now I should just rename the WindowsImageBackup directory!
When I copy the directory back, the date modified is wrong on the WindowsImageBackup, <Computer_Name> and Backup 2012-05-06 191946 directories. Recovery doesn't find any system images.

I have verified that I can connect to my network share and can access the directory (boot rdisk, net use from command prompt and cd to directory).
Recover asks for credentials which I supply but then shows a blank form (no images). My guess is the modify date is wrong on the directory but I can't find a way of modifying this to the original date.

Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Restore fails to find backup images

Hello Cagey, and welcome to Seven Forums.

With moving the system image's WindowsImageBackup like that, it may not be able to be used to restore from anymore. Renaming would have been the way to go instead.

However, if the WindowsImageBackup folder is still fully intact, then you may be able manually extract any files that you need or want from the VHD file in it using the method in the tutorial below.

Hi all
I've got an ISOLATED machine which I use sometimes for specific AV testing.

Anyway I decided to "Infect it" deliberately with some spyware and a key stroke trojan and then take an image of the system with Acronis True image.

For example this one amongst others.

JS:FakeAV-W [Trj]

These "Archives" are .TIB files.

I then "uninstalled" the Acronis true image product (so the Archive can't be read via normal progams such as Windows explorer).

Now I then booted up a Clean computer (installed directly from the MS RC 7100 official CD with NO extra applications installed. I then installed only drivers from the Mobo CD and the AV software and copied the .TIB file on to a second partition on the "Clean computer".

Kaspersky, AVAST, etc all failed to detect anything on the .TIB file.

I only tried 3 AV software packages so the problem *might* be fixed in other systems.

This seems to be to be a HUGE flaw in some of these AV programs -- if you are restoring an Image you DEFINITELY want it to be clean.

However unless some of these archiving programs open up their formats to the AV companies this is a real potential risk.

So when choosing AV software make sure that backups / image files in the format of your backup software is also handled by the AC software.

Note I only tried "Free" or Trial editions so the "PRO version" might work.

Answer:WARNING AV fails to find Viruses etc in .TIB archive

Did you add that extension when testing with Avast?

Asus Maximus Ranger VII mobo Intel Express Z97 chipset Insider 16193 pro

I have several USB drives and devices and since 16193, a notification repeatedly pops up to say that the last installed usb device could not be connected. However all appear to be working.

I downloaded and reinstalled the latest Intel driver and inf file. No change.

I can find no reference to this in Event Viewer. Where else can I look for the source of this or does anyone have a solution please.

Answer:16193 repeatedly fails to find usb device

Start off by physically removing all USB devices. Next, try going into device manager and deleting all "inactive" (eg, greyed-out) appearances of USB devices. You must enable the show hidden devices (drop down menu) option to see them. You will need to look in 3 places as shown:

Once done, your USB devices should be properly rediscovered without conflct upon next insertion.

Hope this helps.

Hi all, I am working on a system which I am trying to install SP2.

Half way through the installation I get an error saying "setup cannot copy the file tcptest.exe" and asks for me to direct it to the file.

I tried to copy same from some other system but its not visible from my system! I also located it in a cab file but whenever I extact this cab file
manually tcptest.exe never appears in extracted files and even on giving
path of cab file for tcptest.exe yields no results.

If I copy the file onto a USB jump drive for example as TCPTEST.EXE, it is visible on a good PC, but to the PC in question ("PC2"), the jump drive is blank. If I rename the file on the good PC to TCPTEST1.EXE, I can see it on PC2, and if I go to rename it, the file disappears. Hidden files are selected to be shown.

Any help with this issue would be GREATLY appreciated. I can't find a thing on the net regarding this problem.

Thanks very much!

Whatever is wrong with this computer, I can't figure it out, and neither can AVG and SuperAntiSpyware. Normally I am capable enough to remove a virus on my own,
the key is in identifying it and looking up the right fix... but I can't identify this, it doesn't show a name or link, and if my antivirus software can't name or find it either I
don't know where to start.

Basically the most obvious problem is that when I am in either IE or Firefox (both do this) and basically just open or go to any page, another browser window opens with
about five tabs of non-existant links and nonsense. See here, a screenshot of the names of the sites it opens:

Also, sometimes this will randomly launch me into a blue screen which looks like the blue screen of death, but it's not, because the computer doesn't nearly die and it has
white lines all over it (small vertical lines).

My anti virus programs have caught quite a few bad cookies and some Trojans, but they always successfully remove so I am not sure why this isn't stopping. I don't
have the Windows Install CD or Boot Disc, and this laptop belongs to my mother so she will not be happy if I hand it back all infected and stuff.

The infection might have happened two weeks ago when I reconnected the laptop to the internet for the first time in ages, without having any firewall or protection. It's
done that pop-up thing before, though, according to my boyfriend.

Can someone help me figure out what is going on, what's it's called a... Read more

This type of infection allows hackers to remotely control your computer, log keystrokes, steal critical system information, and download and execute files without your knowledge.

Have spent all day trying to set up a digital projector for someone else's lecture.
Used my laptop and a borrowed cheap-o projector which has not been used for so long that the owner had almost forgotten he had it.
It is possible to play with the basic settings button on the case, but I've tried three different VGA cables and finally in exasperation connected it to my PC monitor.
Whatever I do I have a persistent screen (or wall) announcing No Signal.
When first tried this morning the friend whose projector it is managed as far as desktop, where it stalled and didn't show any icons.
This afternoon it wouldn't even do that, and settled for No Signal
Since a digital projector is only an elaborate monitor, stopping at No Signal means some failed internal circuit, or does it?
I have this feeble hope that someone can suggest a cure or at least a confirmation that this is dead. System is XP

Answer:Digital projector fails to find signal?

Does the projector's menu show on the screen?
How are you connecting? Connecting to PC monitor probably would not work.
Are you using cloned or extended desktop from the laptop to the projector?
No signal means what it says - nothing is getting to the projector. Check cable connections and output is correct.

Having an issues with my Lenovo Y580. I recently put a mushkin 240gb SSD (primary hard drive). I did a fresh install of Windows 8 using the laptop key on the device. Copied the drivers folder from the original HDD and then installed all the drivers. No issue installing the drivers. However what ends up happening is that when the laptop is shut down or in sleep mode when it starts back up the SSD cannot be found.Hitting the power button again then finds the SSD and boots back into windows. This does not happen every time. Only when the laptop is 'cold' (has been shut off for > 1hr). It doesn't happen all the time when going to sleep/hibernate/or shutdown. Are there any drivers someone could recommend updating in order for the drive to be seen?Firmware update for the bios?Could this been an SSD issue? Are there any checks I can run on the SSD in order to ensure its integrity?

Answer:Y580 Fails to find boot drive.

It's certainly not a driver issue or OS issue for that matter. Perhaps it's a bad SSD connection or SSD itself. What happens if you put laptop to sleep without shut it down? What if you reinsert SSD after 1+ hour of shut down?HD Tune can show S.M.A.R.T. status and has ability do surface scan.

Or is that License Key not going to work with the install from a DVD? Thanks!

I've only recently realised that my Windows 7 computer will not allow Windows Update to basically, run.

The last time it successfully ran was late August and every attempt since fails with Error No: 80096001

I cannot even run the SURT tool as requested by the Windows Update posting Instructions thread. Same error number in fact.

I have run the sfcscan as directed, and the logs are attached.

Once again, I look forward to some nice lady or gent offering help with thanks in advance.

When I type a search into either the start menu or a folder search or anywhere it fails to find files. I tried re-indexing, but it actually reduced my index from ~3500 to 279 files. I don't understand why it won't find anything.

I transferred a lot of folders from my old computer (Vista) to this one via my external hard drive. It will not find any files from those folders. For example, I have MS Word documents from school and even if I open the exact folder its in and search the exact name it won't find any results.

Worse, I have an extensive library of public domain books in various folders but I used the search to find things. Now, even if I'm in the exact folder a file is in it won't find it. For example, if a file is named "JJ Blunt, Undesigned Coincidences" and I search that exact phrase while looking at the file in a folder, it will say no results found. If I search "Blunt" or "JJ" the same thing happens.

I've searched google for hours and found no answers that worked. The only thing that has done anything is if I right click an individual file, go to properties, go to details, tell it to remove all personal information, and then it will index and search for it. But I have literally 10s of 1000s of files I want to search, and to do this manually would take at least a full day. Is there any way to make this work?

Even more startling, documents I've made with this computer and put into folders from my old computer to maintain my s... Read more

Answer:My windows 7 search function fails to find files I know are there.

Here's what i have tried: redoing the index; moving a folder into a folder created on this computer; adding folders to the library; changing folder properties; changing the index to index file properties and file contents; etc.

Please, someone help!

Guys this may be the edge of a HDD failure but so far I can't tell.
Got a call on a WinXP Dell desktop I recently rebuilt with a fresh install of xp pro sp3, it all looked fabulous. but "out of the blue", it went to a no boot condition with a couple of the "corrupt or missing" messages: the current one is "ntoskrnl.exe" missing or corrupt, please replace file.

so I amended the attributes of the boot.ini file and deleted it.
Ran chkdsk /R/F and completed that.
and after trying unsuccessfully got the "failed to find" message.

My questions: should I continue to try command-line fix of the boot files, or try a "repair install" or just start over from scratch? Or none of the above?

Answer:Rebuild Bootcfg fails: scan does not find Windows

From the Recovery ConsoleI would try

The former resets the disk boot sector and the latter resets the boot partition boot sector

In Windows 7, hitting the Windows key would bring up a search field, just as it does in Windows 10. Included in the search results would be matching entries from Microsoft Outlook 2010 (contacts, tasks, e-mail, etc. that contain the search string). Now in Windows 10 the search results do not include anything from Outlook. In order to find something in Outlook , I have to search for it from within Outlook.

Looking at the Indexing Options, I see "Microsoft Office Outlook" listed among the included locations. I have deleted and rebuilt the index a couple of times, but still nothing from Outlook ever appears in Windows Search. Wondering if some indexing feature has been disabled, I went to the Control Panel and looked into "Turn Windows features on or off." Unlike in previous versions of the OS, I could find no option for turning on or off Windows Search or Indexing.

Whenever I search for something in "My stuff", the results window displays this message: "These results may be incomplete, search is still indexing your stuff." Yet, when I pull up Indexing Options, it shows "Indexing complete." Is there something I have missed, or is Search seriously broken in Windows 10?

Answer:Windows Search fails to find any Outlook entries

On my Win10 computers pressing the Windows key by itself brings up the Start menu. Can't answer to most things but Cortana is involved in the change of Search, I haven't gotten comfortable with it yet. I usually Right-click the Start button/icon and choose Search or Run from the list depending upon what I want to do but Search may still bring up Cortana.
