Can anyone shed any light on my problem?click here

Preferred Solution: Good web page... but no image.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Good web page... but no image.

You spoke of a place holder with a red cross in it, Right click on this and make a note of the URL, then compare and check the the image file is where is say's it & that it's the correct format eg *.jpg, *.gif or *.pngPost the URL of the problem page if you would like further advice

Hi guys,

I recently installed a new graphic card - new Gigabyte HD585OC. Prior to that I was running only integraded chipset HD 3200. Of course Im very happy with my new graphic (I also installed new PSU - Corsair VX550 550W) and the difference is remarkable.
But.. I thought that with this graphic I would be, for example able to run LOTRO at full details at my current crapy resolution 1280x1024. but if I turn on Anti-Aliasing x8 instead of x4 the game runs good (fps metter 40-50) but it lags. Like the FPS is still up and high, but the image is tearing a little. Also my copm makes this tear-noise for example when the far textures are loading and Im sure thats the noise comming out of my procesor or whatever but not the graphic card.

Here are my specs:

1. Motherboard - ASUS M3A78 PRO
2. Graphic interface - Gigabyte Radeon HD 585OC
3. Memory -2048mb (dual)
4. CPU -AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+
5. CPU Speed -3111 (overclock from 2900) / bus speed: 213,6 MHz
6. Power Supply Make/Model - Corsair VX550 550W
7. Watt output/Amperage -dunno where to find the one, because there are so many displayed in AMD OverDrive / other programes
8. OS: Windows XP Prof. 32bit

Now, I know that my procesor is slowing the card down, thats obvious, But I though that if I added maybe some aditional RAM it might have helped a little (even though running XP with 2gb, resp. 1,75gb should be allright).
So do you have any suggestions on what should I do to get rid of this tearing ?
Thanks f... Read more

Answer:FPS good, but the image is tearing

Tearing is typically caused by 2 things (that I can think of); 1 - drivers, 2 - heat.

Drivers being the more likely of the 2. So I'd make sure you have the most up to date drivers for the card before getting concerned about heat. If you have done that, then I'd look into something to speed up your GPU fan (RivaTuner?).

i see people sackriding True Image everywhere and never understand it.
I have tested and compared True Image 10 vs Ghost 12 vs ShadowProtect. and if not for the fact that Ghost 12 does not do backup from boot CD, True Image ranks last in every single category. the most terrible thing is that True Image's boot CD is very slow to backup/restore to USB drives because it does not support USB 2.0. you have to build a bartPE bootCD with USB 2.0 plugin to use it .
on the other hand, ShadowProtect is extremely fast, even faster than Ghost 12, and has almost no flaws. but i dont see anyone using it

Answer:what's good about True Image??

okay?? And your point is? Did acronis crash your system and you had to buy or build a new pc???
For me, i have acronis 8.0. It works perfect, and thats all, why consider the alternatives when this does exactly what i want it to do????
And second, I dont care about speed, because it takes a while (about an hour for 50 gigs) to do a full backup without compression. So, i just find something else to do, or hop on one of my two laptops.

Also thats a lie about not able to backup via usb2.0. As i have stated before i have 8.0, and you see the time i posted for 50 gigs, thats to my external usb drive that you see in my sig. Hell i remember when i had to move just 25 gigs of music from my old pc via IPOD (using usb1.0) it took the whole night. So with 50 gigs in 1 hr is using the usb 2.0 feature.

As I dabble in art/photography I find I'm rapidly gaining hundreds of images on the pc, some of which I put on cdr and many of which I would like to have better track of.I'm looking for a catalogue program which will support tif, jpeg, psd and ideally but not urgently Canon RAW still formats and maybe avi too. I've already dismissed Iview Media because although it says it supports Photoshop post 3.0 it turns out that that's only in it's Mac Pro version. I've heard some pretty poor reviews of Adobe's new program and Jasc's PhotoAlbum4 doesn't specify what format it covers.Any other ideas would be much appreciated.Dan

Hello Guys,
I am just in the process of producing a (ghost) image on a Samsung p500. This is for our student Higher Education courses at our college. What came to mind was that i have never seen a post that specifies the features of a good (ghost) image. Im a trainee Helpdesk Engineer at the moment so im sure my images could be improved! But what i usually do with my images is this:

Install Fresh Copy on unpartitioned Drive of Windows XP Professional with SP2
Install Relevant Drivers.
Add Remove Components, Outlook Express, Msn Explorer and Windows Messenger.
Windows Update - All Updates.
Install Nero Burning Rom + BurnRights
Install Microsoft Office 2003 with SP2
Install Acrobat Reader 7
Disable Error Reporting Service.
Install our Student VPN Software.
Make a new Admin Account for ourselves (Students use the Administrator Account).
Sysprep the Machines.

We also support Apple Mac's at the college for student Media Courses and make Images for these. so if people could feed back on what they put on their Apple Mac images that would be great.

So there you go, if everyone could feed back on what they do with their Images and if there are any improvements you think we could make to ours. This would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I am in the process of changing from a Dell Latitude E6430 to a Dell Latitude E7450 due to an ongoing warranty issue. I did a system image from the old computer, but when I tried to do the system restore from this to the new Lappie, all hell broke loose. Obviously some of the hardware had changed, making the drivers irrelevant.
I have had to re-install Windows 7 pro from the DVD supplied by Dell to start again.
What do I do now? And how do I get the backup active on the new computer???

I ran across THIS and downloaded it, I was quite impressed for freeware , it seems to have many of the features of the big boys, but it's totally freeware, no nags, no spy ware.

It's available in several languages, and you must get the help file in a separate download, but, unlike so many of these programs, the help file actually tells you what things do ! There are also forums available for help, as well as plug ins and development options, something for the beginner to the expert...check it out...Rhett

Hello there.

Does anyone know of a good free image printing utility? I would like to have more flexibility than the XP pro photo printing wizard gives. Perhaps I'm missing something obvious but the image printing that comes with XP pro seems to force a particular shape of rectangle on you and forces you to have your image stretched or cropped to fit. I just want to be able to print my images in their original shape at the size I want. Printing several images on one page would also be good.

Does anyone know of such a utility? I'd be very grateful if you'd let me know.

Thanks.

Hello:

First, I got Mike Cermak's OK to post this request for someone comfortable with Photoshop to improve my image.

I lack the skill and the patience. My impression is that it would be a fairly short job--perhaps 1/2 hour at most -- for which I would be willing to pay some reasonable price up front.

If some such person should be interested, perhaps he could contact me through the private messaging system and give me his email address in that message. Then I could email the image I have as an attachment explaining what I wanted done and we could discuss things via regular email at that point. It is a 4.73 mb file as I want to make an 8 x 10 or even an 11 x 14 print. (I photographed the picture with a 5 megapixel camera.)

Edit: corrected spelling of Mike's last name

Hi,

Running windows 8.1 which came with the laptop.
New out of the box.

As per title.

I find the image quality of the camera image to be very grainy, poor color etc.

When I start the web camera using the search bar on the right, it starts using the Microsoft application, when you scroll down to settings all that is available under settings/options is Photo aspect ratio, Grid lines, Location info.

I have been in touch with Toshiba Tech support who advised to do a Laptop refresh, which I did.
This made no difference.

After which they asked me to find the Toshiba web camera application on the laptop, this should have been in the Program Files folder in the Toshiba folder.
This application does not exist on my laptop.

The tech checked the same model laptop that he had available, which I was told when he selected the web camera, it opened using the Toshiba Web camera application, not Microsoft.

I have looked at other Toshiba laptops with web cameras, and found the image quality to be better. Unable to get to settings as these laptops were on display and in demo mode, hence locked down to some extent.

I can't believe that a web camera in this day and age for this value of laptop to have such poor image quality. My digital camera from 10year ago has better image quality.

I have checked through the laptop, and I do not have this application installed.

The Toshiba webcam application is available for Win 7 system but the Win 8 and Windows 8.1 system use the own Microsoft webcam application.

> I have looked at other Toshiba laptops with web cameras, and found the image quality to be better.
Different Toshiba notebooks are equipped with different webcams.
Satellite S70-A-11H was equipped with a *0.92 mega pixel webcam*

A Satellite A660 for example was equipped with an _1.3M mega pixel webcam_

So there is a difference in webcam resolution

Hi,

We have a Epson Prolite 76c that does not give an image. We changed the bulb and that did not work. We tried the old bulb in a different projector and it was good. It is only a year old but sadly out of warrenty... Go figure.

After being powered on for about 5 min the Power LED will turn Steady Red and the Bulb LED will flash Red. According to the manual this means the bulb is bad. But its not we have tried 3 different bulbs 2 of which we are positive were ether brand new or not over 5 months old.

We do not want to buy a new one. If we could we are wanting to try to repair it ourselves.....

I'm looking for a good Windows 7 image viewer/organizer. What I would like is something that is as good as iPhoto on the Mac. Also, it MUST have the ability to "pin" the image to stay on top of other windows so whatever images I open are always in front of every other window.

I have 150pix/inch pic, size 21.51 x 29.6, which I scanned in, copying the original A4 pic. I want to print it so that it completely covers the A4 sheet I'm printing on, except for a 1cm blank margin down the left side( I want to bind it). I thought all I had to do was to insert into Powerpoint, match it to the A4 size, then move the image to the right, to create the gap. Then print. Not so. It always gives me a border. This happens in Photoshop and Word, also. Be most grateful for any advice.

Answer:Resizing an image to fit A4 page

First of all your printer must be able to print borderless. In general terms Photo printers will but others need a border so check your manual. In Word when you paste in the picture you need to right click it and select format picture. On the layout tab select "behind text". You can now resize the picture using the "Handles" in each corner and centre of each edge. Check that you have set the margins of the document to the maximum in File>Page Set up. Then look in print preview to see what will be printed. (Is all of the original picture there for example. Post back if this doesn`t work with your version of Word details and the type of image. (jpg, tiff etc)

Hey hey. Quick querey. How good is the page file? When I read that it just uses cpu memory as RAM memory, i was a bit suspicious. Does page filing exactly use cpu memory as RAM, or are there drawbacks to it? Currently i have 38 or so GBs of memory and have increased page file to a minimum of 512, and couple it with 192 system memory. Is it basically running programs at 704mb RAM now or what? Speed.

the Pagefile/swapfile/virtual memory is a file or space on your hd that is allocated to storing things that RAM usually holds. Using it yes it does in effect give you more memory, but its "virtual" since your physical ram isn't increasing.

But physical ram is MANY times faster than anything you can pull off your harddrive. So that is the reason you want to have more physical ram rather than relying on virtual.

hi there. If you've taken the time to read this, first off, thanks! There seems to be a multitude of different ways to structure a web page and i'm (like many people) looking to learn from good practice.I now keep my web layout simple to avoid issues of designing for multiple screen resolutions (redirect scripts etc), so i...1)Set a table fixed to 780 pixels - centred2)Use CSS and set font size 12ptsthat's pretty much it (i use dreaweaver). i was happy with this until someone asked me to edit a webpage see click herei've noticed a multitude of nested tables which has thrown me - just moving content really seems to muck up the layout (trying to make a table smaller sometimes seems to make it bigger!). If this is the best way of designing pages and you know why i'd really appreciate your words of wisdom! i've noticed the 1st (underlying) table is set to autostretch, the next table (for the logo) is set to width 772 (fixed) but when i change my monitor's resolution to 800*600 the fixed table values change?? huh! some java script doing this...reason?thanks in advance for any help!kevin

can be a web-designer's friend, but like all good things they should be indulged in with a degree of moderation. All my images are clear & the quality is really good, however whenever I upload them to photobucket the quality of my images will be destroyed! they look GRAINY, BLURRED, even the COLORS look different!
I realized that what they are doing is COMPRESSING my files!! I don't think this is OK
I'm so tired of deling with this, they will not offer a good solution, even when I'm paying for a PRO account.
I don't care what size the image is "stored" at, I care about how it is displayed.

I will try to upload a sample here so you can see what I'm talking about and the difference of how my images look after they have been uploaded to photobucket

Any suggestion or ideas of what I can do?
Most of the iamges I upload are small because they are "samples" of my work so they measure approx 550x350 ...
Thanks!

Answer:I need info about a good Image hosting, Photobucket PRO disappointed me! :(

I run a custom community with over 80,000 active members. A few months back, I started getting quite a few complaints from members that said my website was causing their browsers to crash. I could not recreate the issue on my computers so I couldn't figure out what the problem could have been.

Then, a few weeks later, one of my computers starting having the same problem. After removing pieces of code to try and pinpoint the problem, it came down to a non-existant image... blank.gif. It seems I needed a fake gif image for certain parts of the website to display correctly, however, since the actual image file did not exist, it caused the browser to crash.

Did something change in IE6?

To correct the problem, I added a fake blank.gif image file and it worked.

However, now, I am realizing that if for some reason, I visit any site where an image is supposed to display and it doesn't exist, it causes my browser to crash again. The same for my website, if someone somehow uploads an image and it doesn't take, and then you go and display the page that is supposed to contain that image, the browser crashes.

Any ideas? Is this something that anyone else is experiencing?

Answer:IE6 Crashes When No Image Exists on Page

Hi and Welcome to TSF

Sorry for the delay in replying, your issue seems to be within the code on your website. I have had issues with websites in the past that made the browser crash and it was indeed a code issue

Thanks for any help.

My PC is running Netscape 7.1 on XP Home. I used to be able to save an image to a HDD from a page following the procedure below:
1. Position the mouse pointer over the image.
2. Right-click the image to display a pop-up menu.
3. Choose Save Image As. You see the Save File dialog box.
4. Choose a folder in which to save this image.
5. Type a file name for the image and click Save.

This no longer works for some unknown reason ... Have checked 'preference' setting box with no clue and settings looks okay.

Note that when saving the very same image when running MS Internet Explorer seems fine.

Your help is much appreciated!

Hello,

My system is windows 7 64 bit. I use Google as my search engine,

Let's say I do a web search for spaceships. I get the results and want to look at the images so I select images.

I scroll down the page with the images and select an image near the bottom of the page. I get a brief flicker on the screen and I am returned to the top of the image page. I must scroll down to the area where the selected image was in order to view the enlarged selection.

This just began two weeks ago. I've scanned the system for rootkits, malware, and spyware with the Emisoft Emergency Kit scanner, Malware Bytes (free) Panda Cloud Antivirus, gMER, Rkill, TDS Killer,
ADW Cleaner, SuperAntispyware, Herd Protect, Junkware Removal Tool and Free Fixer. Nothing except a few tracking cookies found by SuperAntiSpyWare and some false positives from Panda.

Have there been other reports of this issue? Is there a fix?

Thanks

Hi,I am trying to figure out the best way to load an image on a page without having one image per page. The person I am working with wishes to have one image at a time shown on the page with a previous/next to load the previous or next image respectively. I assume this can be done in PHP. I have limited knowledge of PHP so any tutorial that will be good in helping me to achieve this would be much appreciated or just any general help too. I have tried to search for one but none seem to be what I am looking for. I thought perhaps someone on here may know of one.I could probably do it in JS, but I have no knowledge whatsoever of JS and thought that it would be best to to PHP and store the images in a table in a MySQL database and load it from there.Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advanceAde_1

Ok, so walked in this morning and found a laptop on my chair with a sticky note "computer crashed, please fix" yeah... Anyways, I fired up the machine and received a BSoD 0x50, Page Fault. Attempted to boot into all 3 Safe Modes, Last Known Good Configuration, and Normally, all with the same BSoD. Swapped out the RAM, no luck received same stop error. Swapped out the HDD, machine booted just fine, put "bad" HDD in identical laptop and received the same error. So, obviously its a bad HDD, but is there anyway to get into the OS?

Dell Latitude D600
1GB RAM
40 GB Hitachi HDD
(Model # HTS548040M9AT00)
Win XP
(Unknown SP, should be 3)

Oh yeah, P.S., this user is know to never update her AV. Has had to swap out laptop 4 times in the past 6 months b/c of virus infections. So that more than likely that is the cause, but just wanted to ask the hardware guys here first.

Any people got any advice on a good program to use to create web page. Just i am a new to web site design. As i havent covered anything to do with web site design in my comp sciesnce degree.wots the best package to help me? ThanksAbbas

Answer:Wots a good web page creation program?

It depends on what you mean by good. There are lots of options. I got NetObjects Fusion 2 free on a Magazine cover disk more than a year ago and am still using it, though it is already up to version 7. It is simple to use, just like a DTP package, and it creates frames with navigation bars that are updated and relinked automatically as you add, remove, or move pages to your site. My site is over 100 pages now: click hereIf by good you mean free, try Arachnophilia. If you want to learn more about HTML coding this might be better for you. click hereAnother way is to use Serif Page Plus DTP which has a web-publishing mode. I think you need version 7.0 or later. I use version 8.0 but not for website creation.

Answer:How do I change the background image of Metro Page?

Windows only allows you to use one of the preset colors and images. You will have to use a third party solution to do this
Quoting from WonderHowTo: http://operating-systems.wonderhowto.com/how-to/add-custom-background-image-your-windows-8-start-screen-0140266/

How to Add a Custom Background Image to the Start Screen
Before you get started, you'll need to download WinRAR or any equivalent file archive extractor (if you don't already have one). Then download the Windows 8 Start Screen Customizer (link not working now, see below) from devianART user vhanla.
Alternative link from Softpedia
Once you've downloaded the file, go ahead and unpack and extract it using WinRAR (or other program). To extract, find the file location of the tool you just downloaded, right-click on the program—which should be titled (MordenUIStartScreen.ex_)—and then Extract to specified folder. Choose the Desktop for easiest access.

Once it has been extracted to your desktop, rename it. Change it from MordenUIStartScreen.ex_ to MordenUIStartScreen.exe, making it an executable (the file hosting service wouldn't allow an .exe). Now you can launch the program. It should look like this:

The picture to the right is what I want my new Start Screen background to look like. All I did was find my image, save it to my desktop and then load the picture into the program. Once it has been cropped to your specifications, click Run at startup and then Apply. You should be good to go. My... Read more

So I just got this random idea and checked google but found nothing. Can the image that prints on the printer test page be changed, and if so, how?

I'm on windows 7 64 bit

[edit]

Ok, people don't seem to get my point. You know the page that comes out with the windows logo image and a list of the drivers being used on it when you click print test page from printer properties in windows? That's the one I want to change.

Answer:Changing the print test page image

After using the print test on a HP many years ago I now just print a small text file to see it the printing is OK.

The HP print test printed out a FULL page coloured print. Never again.

Doesn't help you but I had to say something.

Good evening all!I am looking for a tool to save my unofficial academic result displayed in HTML format as an image, like .jpg or .gif. I can make request for an offical transcript, but it will cost me US $30 to do so.Could you help me please?

Answer:Is there any tool that can let me save the whole html page as an image?

Well, try simply doing a screen print, pasting it into Paint (you'll find it in Start, All Programs, Accessories), and saving as a .jpg or .gif file.  To do a screen print of a web page, hit Alt + Print Screen, with your web page being the active window.  Then, open Paint and paste.  If the web page showing your transcript data can be fully captured with a screen print, another option is "printing" the page to a PDF file.  Then, you can view that file in Adobe Reader or another PDF reader, and print it.  I'll suggest PrimoPDF for this.  PrimoPDF is a free tool for high-quality PDF creation. However, I think you need to verify that any printout you produce from the website will be accepted as an official transcript.  And, if so, what about just printing the web page?

Hi,

I have a recent issue in that on a couple of web pages that I created in Dreamweaver for my site, have images that won't display on my system. If I view the code source it is as if the image code is not there! I recently upgraded to SP2 for Xp. I have a Zone alarm firewall and NAV 2004. I uploaded these pages to my site with WS FTP95 LE. The weirdest thing is that these pages and images display PERFECTLY for others viewing my web site from their systems. It's as if the code has been 'excised' just when I view it. I don't think I have a worm or virus as I have done a scan since I noticed this. Note: it is not an issue of the little red x displaying in place of the image for a security issue. There is just no image at all for these pages. The rest of the site and images, no problem. Can anyone shed some light?
thanks,
leslie

I have been attempting to write a scrip for images on a page to change on page reload or refresh, the thing is that I dont want the images to be random, I need them to be sequential.

here is what I have, it works, but only in random order, any help would be greatly appreciated, and I thank you all in advance berry berry much.

http://youreonlinetoday.com/paramount/index-test.html

script using:
</script><script type="text/javascript" language="JavaScript">

NumberOfImagesToRotate = 7;

FirstPart = '<img src="./hpphoto/tn_photo';
LastPart = '.jpg" height="240" width="326">';

function printImage() {
var r = Math.ceil(Math.random()() * NumberOfImagesToRotate);
document.write(FirstPart + r + LastPart);
}
//-->
</script>

and then this for image display:
<script type="text/javascript" language="JavaScript"><!--
printImage();
//--></script>

pretty straight forward, nothing fancy, I think where i am wrong is the math.random, but I dont know what to put to make it sequential.

Thanks again!!!:confused

Answer:Sequential image refresh on page reload

You could store a session variable that you could look at to figure out what picture is next or use a cookie

New to posting here, but a long time reader. I recently started using XP Home after successfully and stubbornly clingling to Win98SE. After researching, etc., I cannot make XP render the primary page graphics such as are present in BC's tutorial "Enhancing Firefox with Browser Extensions". Firefox, my "download of the day", does it all nicely. My eyes glaze over at the dizzying array of options IE 6 offers in its "TOOLS" > internet browsing menu. What could be the most likely overlooked option here. Thanks in advance.Len PS: I think I'll stick with Firefox ***Mod edit - closed font tag* - rigel

Hi folks,

Long version (skip if bored by it):

I'm working on a web site (www.tuningfork.org if you wanna check out its beta) which includes a photo gallery with some pretty high-res images--around 6-700KB--because the client needs print-quality images, for newspapers...

Anyway, because I'm using the OpenWindow() procedure to pop up the photo gallery window (follow the link and you'll see what I mean), which means there's no status bar, and at least in IE 5.5 SP2, I get no hourglass, either. Which means users are sitting there for between 10 seconds and 5 minutes (depending on modem speed) with no indication that an image is loading.

Short version:

Is there a way in HTML or Java to do the equivalent of the Flash "Loading..." message, until the image appears? I don't need anything fancy, just something to say "hold on, it's coming."

Thanks very much.

Answer:BIOS - how tofind page with START WITH LAST GOOD CONFIGURATION

F8 gives you safe mode option...Last known good configuration will pop up if windows isn't booting up, so if it is, its already a good configuration. Try the system restore utility instead (start->all programs->accessories->system tools->system restore), and for normal mode...you don't need to do anything :)

Hello all,

So I'm running Win 7 x86 with IE 9 on a new Dell 790 with the Intel 82579LM GB NIC
I have an IP address (same result with static or DHCP), I can ping my gateway, I can ping 8.8.8.8 and I can ping google.com, tracert shows hops all the way to those addresses too.

My local shares are all accessible. I hover my tool tip over the LAN icon and it says 'Internet Access',

However, I cannot get to any webpage at all. Other machines going through the same connection can get out to the net just fine. I've tried a different browser and no webpages load. I've checked the driver, I've run all the diagnostics. It looks like my physical connection is good, my logical connection is good, and I can't find any setting in the browser itself that is wrong, esp since I also tried firefox to get a page. Somewhere between layer 5 and 7 I'm having an issue and I can't figure it out ;(

I am getting a page fault in nonpaged area error BSOD.Memory tests okHard drive tests okSystem repair runs but reports cannot fixRestore to last save point did not workRestore to prior restore point did not workCannot run in safe mode (back to BSOD) I believe the error may have been caused by stopping Lenovo Boot Optimizer by hitting the power button (accidentally) instead of escape key.   I did this once before and I was able to fix that time by restoring to last good configuration.   Also, I lost access to F8 menu.   Advice on what else I should try?  Don't have a recovery disk. Z370 Windows 7 Thanks!

Answer:Page fault in nonpaged area/can't run in safe mode/restore and last good config don't fix

Downloaded a recovery disk and was able to access One Key Recovery which did get everything going again but it was a brute force method without elegance. Sort of like taking a sledgehammer to a tack. And there was a time that using a real one had some appeal. Useless to add, though I will, that much better recovery options need to be available. I shouldn't have to do stuff at the DOS command level. No hardware problems. Stopping Boot Optimizer did something really bad and It's a very annoying program anyway and I had now de-installed it.

While Thinkpads have a handy program in Windows to remap the keys, there is no such program available for Linux that I know of. My problem is that my T410 has the Page Forward and Page Back keys right next to the Page Up key. I am constantly pressing these keys by mistake when I want to press the Page Up key. If I am typing an email message in a web browser, I suddenly loose all my text when the web browser goes one page back or forward.  The solution is to remap these keys to be normal Page Down and Page Up keys. I spent all afternoon searching for a solution, so I thought I would share to save others the same pain. Edit your .bashrc file (/home/youruser/.bashrc) and add these two lines:  xmodmap -e 'keycode 167=Next'  xmodmap -e 'keycode 166=Prior'The next time you start a new session, the keys should be remapped.

Answer:Browsing/page Loading Speed Is Good But Downloading Speed Is Too Slow

Have you monitored your system with Windows Task Manager while downloading? If you determine Firefox is causing the problem, try safe mode and/or a new profile. Sometimes settings and/or extensions got corrupted leading to strange behavior. Standard diagnostic - Firefox

I have this problem where sometimes for some unknown reason for me when I open Internet Explorer it doesn't display the images. Every image has a red X and it didn't even try to load. Note that I do have my browser set to view images and can view them about 2/3 of the time. Does anybody know why or how to fix it? I have the newest edition of IE. It says "Error on page." in the status bar on all the web pages I go to.

The second problem deals with a pesky russian porno site. I am a student of russian and as I was doing research for my final paper I ended up at this website http://www.pretty.ru/ which has taken over my ability to set my home page. Every time I open my browser I change my home page to what I want and every time I open it, it goes back to the russian porno site. I figured it was in the cookies so I deleted what I had and now whenever I open IE it asks me if I want to download something from the pretty.ru website. I don't understand does anybody know whats wrong?

Maybe the russian porn offended my browser and that's why it won't display images.

Hello,
I am new to the forum, but not new to computing. I recently started having problems with this Vista Home Premium box not being able to resolve DNS names for only computers on my home network (all others XP boxes or Windows Server 2003). It can ping the IP addresses of the local boxes. It doesn't have a problem connecting to the internet. But this is a big problem when it comes to sharing files within my local network.

I have disabled Windows Firewall and McAfee Firewall and Services to try and diagnose the problem.

I have been googling this for a couple of days looking for ideas, but I have none. I have validated that DNS is running. NETBios over DHCP is enabled. Subnet mask is 255.255.255. DHCP and DNS server IP is correct.

Anything that anyone could point me to try? I am out of ideas.

Answer:Ping on Workgroup Computer Names Bad / IP Addresses Good / Internet Good

Unless you've got a DNS server running at home, it's rather unlikely that DNS is being used to resolve names of your home computers when pinging by name. Instead, the machine does a broadcast (on the local segment) to the effect of "if you're called XYZ, please get back to me and tell me your IP address".

If that's not working for you, my first inclination would be to suspect firewalls on the other machines - not necessarily on the machine exhibiting symptoms. Try disabling and even uninstalling (3rd-party) firewalls while you're troubleshooting, and also test what happens when all machines are booted to [safe mode + net].

I currently use the Microsoft Works Calendar as a PDA keeping track of appointments, birthdays, etc. but find that I can't print out reports according to categories. I can only print out days, weeks or months. Is there a good, free calendar that I can use and be able to import the information that I already have in the Works Calendar into that calendar?
Thanks in advance.

Answer:Solved: Microsoft Works Calendar not so good. Are there any good desktop calendars out there

Hello! I am moving to a quasi remote area - I say quasi because it's a place with nothing but rich people who own horses and a lot of land and a cool central town, but because of the remoteness of the area, NOBODY - yes I checked and I do mean NOBODY - can provides internet access to the place I'm moving into.
Therefore, as someone who uses the internet a lot for everything from my phone to pc/xbox 360 gaming to work on my laptop to simple browsing, etc., my only option is to change my current phone plan with AT&T to on of their Mobile Share plans, which will allow my pc/xbox to access internet through my phone (a Lumia 1520), either wirelessly or plugging the phone directly into the devices.
All of that is fine. EXCEPT.
I visited the place last week and while I get reception out there, at least that day it averaged about 2-4 bars of 4g reception, whereas in my current apartment/area I can get 3-5 bars of LTE.
Now, I still have to test how well my laptop and xbox perform on the 2-4 bar 4G level of reception, I came across something that recommended getting one or both of these things called "smart signal boosters" and "cellular repeaters." I know nothing about them, but if one or both can help me boost my signal to LTE-level quality, I'm VERY interested in purchasing.
That said, I don't know anything about those items, and I want to purchase the right items the first time.
So, my question is, does anyone have any experience or knowledge about signal boosters and/or cellul... Read more

But for now, in case anyone comes by needing one as well, here's what I found to be the best one out there.Amazon.com: Wilson Electronics - 460101 DT 4G - Cell Phone Signal Booster for Small Home or Office: Cell Phones & Accessories Just as an update in case anyone in the future comes to the forum with a similar issue, I purchased the above booster (used but in "Like New" condition, for about 50 bucks off) and just set it up today. So far, at least in my room (where for me it really only matters since my office and gaming stuff is in here) I have gone from an average of 1-3 bars with an occaisional 4th bar to now averaging 4-5 (full) bars with the occaisional 3rd bar. All still 4G, which is a tad disappointing since I was hoping I'd get boosted to LTE, but after testing it out on a few of my pc games it is totally sufficient and my games play great - with perhaps the occaisional crazy lag that lasts all of 5-10 seconds and hasn't happened all that frequently.
Overall, I would say, at least so far after a few hours of use, I'm satisfied with my purchase. If anyone has any questions, post them below.
