Preferred Solution: Windows 98 colour

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Windows 98 colour

If I remember 98, try right clicking the Desktop, Active Desktop, Customise Desktop, Settings. Increase the screen area and choose High Color 16 bit.

Hi there gurus.
My pc doesn?t show certain colour objects in Publisher 2007 and some on-line sites. Overall, the screen colour is very good. I know the fault is localised, because when I switch to Print Preview in Publisher it looks fine and I can see all the object colours. (I only lose the colour with objects, not text)
Also, when I send a copy of a Publisher page to my partner who is on the same PC, it looks fine on her screen.
I?ve tried going to Install/uninstall programs and run the Repair, but to no avail. The guys in my computer shop are clueless without seeing it. Anyone who can help solve this for me is a gem.
Cheers!
David

What's cheaper: colour laser with genuine ink or colour inkjet with compatible inks?

I'm happy to invest in buying a colour laser: but I can't find any refills for lasers
At least they don't seem to be widely available

So, my choice is: colour laser + genuine inks or colour inkjet + compatible inks

From what I know, side by side: laser's are cheaper
But, how about when compared to genuine laser ink to compatible colour inkjet inks?

I should stress that for me needs, I am not overly concerned if using compatibles doesn't give me perfect results - just close as possible is fine for me

What's more important probably is speed of print at highest quality

ANY feedback would be great

Thanks
OM

Answer:What's cheaper: colour laser with genuine ink or colour inkjet with ink compatibles?

Finding Compatible Remanufactured Color Toner cartridges can be dicey. While they may be available, the problem may end up being the company tht does the remanufaturing. It is also dependant upon the model printer you get. I have noticed that the savings on my Black Canon X-25 toner cartridge is only about $12 lower than the cost of a Factory original cartridge. There are sites that I would save up to $30 per cartridge, but part of this is eaten up by the shipping charges. For my toner cartridge, I am about 1/2 mile from the store that does nothing but ink and toner refill services, and their garauntee thier cartridges 100%. In 3 years I have only had to return one cartridge and it was an HP #17 Color cartridge.

Now per page printing cost on a laser is much cheaper than on an inkjet. Though the printer cost itself is usually much higher for a Laser. Personally I use the laser much more than than my Inkjet, but I do use the inkjet for all color printing. But then 95% of my printing is monochrome text.

Hi, I'm using the Aerolite theme with Aeroglass, and want a consistent colour for the borders. So I set accent colour from background 'off' and choose the colour. Fine so far.

Now that's ok if I log off and on.

But if I sleep or hibernate (not personally ) and then resume, the colour and setting are lost.

I noticed that on resuming, the border colour is present until the 'Please wait' screen appears, after which these settings are lost.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Hello.

I seriously need help with my PC. I've reinstalled Windows XP and Service Pack 2, and I can't chnge the Screen resolution or the colour quality. It sucks. The resolution stays at 800x600, the lowest possible, and the colour quality stays at 8 bit. I think I have a ATI 128 MB DDR Radeon 9800 Pro. I dunno whether thats a driver or what. And I also don't know my graphics card, or whether that will help at all.

I would swear at this point but I'm too young.

Oh but I'll use this instead

Has anyone got any help for me that I can understand. I'm 14 but I still can understand most computer talk.

Anyway thanks very much for reading all this crap and please try not to point out all my spelling mistakes.

Alex Jordan

Answer:[resolved]Help with resolution and colour and colour quality??.. anyone??

Heya, welcome to the forums

Okay, it has to do with your drivers. Go to ATI's website and find your driver.

Here's the link

http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/xp/radeonx-xp.html

Please download and install both the Control Center as well as the Display driver. Then restart your computer and try to change the resolution.

Cheers!

Help please...I do cartoons in Photoshop for magazines...how can I adjust my screen, so that what I see on the screen will match what is printed in my client's magazine? Thanks.click here

Answer:Screen colour to match magazine colour?

I found the easiest way to achieve this was to print the picture and then adjust my screen to match. Once you've adjusted the screen all future pictures which look too light or dark, on screen, can be adjusted to suit within your software.

Hi Allhope someone more knowledgable can advise - I recently purchased a Lexmark x500n multifunction colour laser printer - I had a big black print job to do excel and word - 2000 pages - i was shocked to see that - ok the black starter cartridge of 2500 pages was nearly empty- fair enough - but all three colour cartridges (1500 page size) were nearly all empty too - I hadn't done any colour printing but when i contacted the manuf they advised that the printer uses colour also to print black!! - it's getting returned to them - but do do all colour lasers do this - obviously this quadruples the costs of printing and has put my costing out of the window!! - any advice would be great - it's a network colour printer, with copier and scanner that I need - a fax would be great but not essential.thanks in advanceTrifly

Answer:COLOUR LASER - PRINTING BLACK USING COLOUR!!

That would pee me off no end. How in God's name can it use colour to create black when there's a black cartridge in there? A cheapo mono laser seems to be your ideal tool. I know nothing about colour laser printers, but is there an option anywhere in the settings to print using only the black cartridge? Does the printer still work if you take out the colour cartridge while printing only black text documents?

Hello friends,
I was just thinking that wouldn't it be great if we get more color options to change the background color on our Windows Phone devices than just black or white as we get on Windows 8.1 devices to customize background color along with tile colour?

I personally like the black and white, but I saw a mockup of a dim tropical photo in place of the black and it looked quite beautiful.

Recently the colour (background colour it seems) has left any window i bring up on XP, but the strange thing is, the windows still show images and icons in full colour. Does anyone have any idea how to solve this? thanks very much for any help!

My computer has blue screened a couple of times recently, if that helps.

Answer:Please Help: No colour in my windows

Check on the Manufacture site for your Video Card for any update drivers.

Also go into Safe Mode and see if it is the same.

How to Start in Safemode

1. Restart your computer.
2. Before the windows logo you should gently tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with a Windows XP Advanced Options menu.
3. Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
4. Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode.

Question: Windows 8.1 colour

Hello Everybody, i recently had a issue with the colour of my taskbar. I want to change mine but it said "there was a problem loading preset colour. please help
thanks.

Answer:Windows 8.1 colour

Hi, Welcome to Eight forums.

I would suggest to create a new account and try if the issue is solved. Here's how you can do that. User Account - Add a New User in Windows 8

If new user account fixes this, then you can check for any third party app that can cause this issue in your main profile.
You can start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "Clean Boot." A Clean Boot helps eliminate software conflicts. Here's how to perform Clean boot.

Run a system file checker scan and check if that helps. Refer the following steps to run SFC scan.
a) Move the mouse pointer to bottom left of the screen where you see preview of start menu and Right-click to bring up a list of Windows settings.
b) Click on ?Command Prompt (Admin) to bring up elevated command prompt. Note: Click ?Yes? if it prompts for permission.
c) In the command prompt type in the following command: ?sfc /scannow?.

Let us know if it helps.

Hi Everyone

Does anyone know of a way to customise windows explorer columns to show folder size as well as file size and also change font colour dependent upon a category.

For example in my music folder I have 2 artists that contain adult mp3's so just to remind myself I would like their names to be say red. Also I have some empty folders as I have not yet obtained the albums and those would be say blue.

Example of what I am after :

Is it possible to download new Windows Colour Schemes....... do they have them anywhere online?

I mean the colour scheme of the taskbars and windows that you change in the appearence settings. (Windows classic, Teal, Brick, maple etc.)
I don't really like any of the schemes, but I don't want to bother with Style XP, or Windows Blinds or any of those programs again.

I wrote a quick application, Windows 10 Color Control, which allows you to modify the Windows 10 colors, and to get this alternative color calculation algorithm. The original Windows 10 calculation algorithm is referred to as the ?New auto-color accent algorithm?, according to the undocumented registry value name.

hi, ive recently gone back to using windows xp after my vista home premium messed up, and since rolling back my colour has completely messed up, i edit and create videos for my youtube channel and since rolling back the BLACK in them is brighter than it should be, ive read numurous forums and found my video editing software is not the problem as nothing had been changed in their settings so my only guess is that windows xp doesnt like the color black, when editing the videos they look almost perfect but when theyve finished there is no contrast and brighter than should be. also, when viewing the preview box when highlighting over a picture or video, the preview box shows no black, it just shows a blank background,

please if anyone coudl help id be ever greateful.

First check Device Manager for any driver errors related to the graphics card.
If it shows an error condition, re-install the Windows XP graphics driver for that PC model (from the PC manufacturer's website or from the graphics card manufacturer's website, whichever is appropriate in your case).

Hi folks,
I have just got a new comp, HP pavilion, it came with windows 8 and I then upgraded to 8.1
The colour of the screen is horrendous and every time I reset it, even though that doesn't turn out the best, the next morning it has reset itself.
The display adapter is: HP Graphics 4600.
It's very annoying. Before I updated from Windows 8 to 8.1, everything was fine and it looked good. Now I can't get the bloody thing to look anyway half decent and if I get a little bit close it resets the next morning.
The graphics card says it is updated. I am using a normal TV for monitor, but remember it looked OK BEFORE I "upgraded" to 8.1.
If I disable the graphics card it reverts to some other card and looks fine, except that the resolution is stuck on 1690 - 1080 and therefore too big for my tv display.
Is there a fix for this?...it looks terrible and is really annoying.

Answer:Windows 8.1 colour display

Have you been to the HP Support website Click Here where you can use their automatic detection system to discover if you have their correct driver for your graphics card with Windows 8.1? You cannot always rely on the Microsoft drivers to be correct for a specific machine.

Hello everyone,I just set up my new rig (not really gaming) and after installing w7 i saw that running on the chipset , it does some weird red dots on the screen sometimes (not while loading windows)
The story goes on and installed my Gainward GT630 driver ,and it seem'd that the Windows problem is solved , but it still gets the weird red dots and blue stripes on browsers..
So my question is is the chipset the fault for this? NOTE:It never does stripes in loading windows or bios just in browsers and videos on youtube, havent tried out yet the games.
Also in windows it shows my Athlon ii X4 641 having 4 cores ,and in PC Wizard it showes 1 core only.

Answer:Windows 7 colour problems

Hi, The fact you can take a screen grab of the issue means it is not a monitor problem so that can be ruled out.
Since this is a new build do you have all the latest motherboard chipset drivers and codecs? Get the latest video card drivers here Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers. Failing that it looks like the video card is bad or your power supply is underrated for the card.
Everyone on here is going to ask you to fill in the exact details of your rig to assist in troubleshooting further.

[The following are not the problems i faced on Windows XP]. I've connected my PC via HDMI 1.3!

I installed Windows 7 x64 in my PC. The real big problems i'm facing is with Nvidia.
1. First thing scaling didn't work i tried to fix it but no hopes. Good my monitor had built in scaling.

2. 59hz monitor refresh rate is another pain. My display works perfect in 60.001hz @ 1920x1200 resolution but it still resets to 59hz. Nvidia in there latest driver has informed that its the problem with Windows 7 OS. And microsoft says there is no theartical difference from 59hz and 60hz. Well there is huge difference especially when your play movies via DXVA in Media player classic home cinema where you your full colour range and shaders which causes some kind of boxing and not artifacts! Everything was proper in Windows Xp

3. Finally i don't about other but i've noticed massive difference in colour depth which is set to 32-bit but its showing only 24-bit colours which can easily be noticed in movies and games like Crysis. HDMI 1.2 supports upto 24-bit colour. But PC or PS3 has HDMI 1.3 which support 32-bit same as DVI connection. My monitor has upto 48-bit colour depth so the difference in colours while in 24-bit can be easily noticed.

Seriosuly is this a design flaw or enabling these would cause different problems. If any one has got a solution for this i would be happy to hear!

Answer:Windows 7 no 32-bit colour support???

I had some problems like your's when I was using the betas or RC, but in the RTM, I'm not.

About a week ago, when I open certain programs, the background colour isnt there.

For example, when I opened Virgin Wireless Manager, instead of the usual red background, it was white. The only thing with colour was the option buttons.

This happens with most of my programs; windows live, media player, some internet pages, and ms office 07 looks terrible (see attached pics below - they take a while to load) and i cant type anything.

My first thought was a possible virus, but Kaspersky Antivirus found nothing.

HI chaps,

HP have responded and said tough luck we dont intend to provide one, just but a new printer,
very sustainable!
On MSoft windows 7 compatibility site, MS just say HP1500 Laser Colour = not compatible.
Anyone out there found a solution that works?

Answer:Hp1500 Colour laser and Windows 7

The last known drivers for your 1500 were for XP. There were many who went to Vista only to find out there were no Vista drivers for the printer.

Here is a solution that worked in Vista which I;m pretty sure will work for you as well. Place the CD that came with the printer in the drive. Unplug the printer from the PC, run the CD software and when it gets to the part to plug in the printer cancel it and pull the CD from the drive. Plug the printer back in and tun it on, W7 will search for the driver on the web and won't find it and then give you some options. One of these options is to load the driver from your PC, point it to where you placed the software and XP drivers and it should pick up the driver and load. Good Luck....

I installed Windows 8 on an ancient tablet PC, namely the HP Pavilion TX1000 with an AMD Turion X2 inside. My brother used it back when he was studying. It ran Vista (what a nightmare) and was a horrible thing to use after a period of time. I shoved it to one corner after my brother passed it to me using his new W7 machine.
So cleaning my room, I dug this up, and thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to install W8 on it. After some fiddling around, I got the release preview version of W8 up and running. It was a smooth process too. All drivers were there with W8. I just popped in the disk, did the usual selection stuff, waited a bit, then Windows 8 goodness.
I will note the following first. I am a L900 user who is used to the UI and actually like the UI for its uses. I also read up on the quirks of the UI so I know a little of the OS and how it operates.
I got to say, this 5 year old laptop still has something in it. Apps actually run pretty well. I ran ARMED! on it, and it worked like a charm. IE isn't all bad, video player is cool, and I actually like how Windows 8 feel on the whole with the start screen. Touch was quirky, but it is a resistive screen, so I gave it a pass. Most importantly, it gave life to a machine thought gone. Yes, it is a Vista tablet PC, but MS did do some great work under the hood with Windows 8. The UI is an acquired taste to some, but it fits me.
I haven't even go into the desktop yet with Windows 8. This did excite me a bit for the wave of W8 device... Read more

I am trying to modify the box that contains the text "search programs and files" within the start menu search bar - this box only shows until you actually select the section to type in an item to search - while this currently shows as white I wish to change it as so it shows in a cyan colour.
I have tried modifying the themes however these don't appear to have had any effect on the issue - similarly going into the registry and changing the RGB values under "HCKU/Control Panel/Colours" & "HCKU/Control Panel/Desktop/Colours" doesn't seem to have had any effect.
I've included a link to a screenshot below which shows the box in white while using a "high contrast" theme.

Hello everyone

Is there a way that I can control the colour of the active window's title bar and border?

I've noticed that if I select a solid colour as a desktop background colour, then both the active and inactive windows have a light grey title bar and border. But if I select any picture as my desktop background, then Windows adjusts the colour to suit the picture.

Now, I want a solid colour as a desktop background, so I made a BMP in MS Paint that is the size of my screen and contains just the colour that I want... but unfortunately then Windows makes the active window title bar and border colour the same colour as the desktop background, which makes it even harder to see. It would make more sense if that colour was a colour that contrasts the desktop background.

I have just installed Windows 8.1, so I have all default settings. What can you recommend?

Thanks
Samuel

Actually, it's not the application background colour - but I'm struggling to know what it is. I've attached two screen snaps. 001 shows an image (the block of colours) as seen in Corel Photopaint. 002 shows how it looks in "Full-screen Preview" from that application. It's the second image I'm concerned with. I would like the space beyond the image when seen in "Full-screen Preview" to be #000000 (black) not #F0F0F0, as you see it. This may be specified by the application (Photopaint) but nothing seems to control it there. Is it a Windows thing? Can it be changed?

I have a number of programs that I wrote myself, In Gupta SQl Windows, originally for a Windows 95 environment, which display .jpg files and for best results really need to be run in at least 16-bit colour. Under Windows 98 these applications continued to work perfectly. Under Windows XP, there is a problem, as for some reason Windows XP feels it has to run them in 8-bit colour mode, and so changes the colour depth on entry from my usual High Colour 16-bit setting, restoring it on exit. As a result the displayed .jpgs look awful. Although I can change the colour mode back manually to 16-bit while the programs are running, the programs continue to display in 8-bit colour. Note that it makes no different whether or not I use the Windows XP ‘compatibility options’ accessible by right-clicking on the executable. Would be most grateful for any ideas how to get round this.

My windows 7 colour calibration is wrong somehow.

Blacks look grey, everything looks very washed out. With linux there is no problem.
I have used f.lux (but uninstalled now) and also run an eye one colour calibration (which I have uninstalled now) in the past (with old monitor).

How can I reset the colour settings in windows completely? I looked at the colour calibration dialogs but they are very complicated for a newbie. Is there some easy way to just reset everything all at once?

In the "Color management" "advanced tab" everything is on "system default".

Answer:Reset Windows 7 colour calibrations/settings

Click the Start button or tap the Windows key on your keyboard and type "calibrate" - when the option for "Change advanced color management settings for displays..." appears, select it. On the "All Profiles" tab, scroll to the bottom to the section labeled "ICC Profiles" and delete whatever happens to be there but only in that section, then reboot the machine. That should be a total reset of all color management settings and options.

You were in the right place, just looking at the wrong tab.

Hi Guys!
I need help for my computer, I thank whoever takes time and afford to reply.

I have been using my computer over 8 years and suddenly display to  go off after running couple of minutes opening all the files. Suddenly screen goes blank. But the processor is running.  I can't shut it down using power button so I unplug power cable an turn it on with safe mode I did system scan, found and fixed this problem "CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log" but problem still persist, screen goes blank and grey. I did the scan again and found no fault.

Answer:Screen goes blank to grey colour Windows 7

Welcome,
If all of your components are 8 years old I suspect that they are at the very end of their life cycle. Before things get too much worse be sure to back up everything in the way of data and documents you have to have. Then I would recommend an easy fix - a new computer.
If I were to guess about the weakest components they would be the power supply, graphics card, and possibly the monitor.
Keep us posted

So i have had this for only about an hour, but it is really bugging me. I have also read through other posts on this site and they haven't helped. I used a program which changed my colour scheme to basic. This wasn't the first time a program had done that, but when i closed the program it did not change back. I have tried turning off the computer and that sort of thing, but to no success. I also have right clicked desktop, gone to personalize and tried to change it from windows basic, but it did not work. The basic scheme has changed my windows, so when i hover over an icon in the taskbar, the box thing doesn't appear, has changed my taskbar colour to non-transparent and my log on screen (or the screen when you hit ctrl alt delete) to a different colour. Sorry i don't know much about computers, but i would love to get this fixed. thanks

Hi guys, is it possible to change the colour of the white start button in Window 8.1?

My screen is suffering from screen burn because of the bright start button and I'm thinking it would be less severe if the button was a darker colour.

The button does change to black though when "High Contrast White" is selected in the personalisations, but I can't find a way other than that to do it

I don't think it's possible to change the color other than what you found. There may be some 3rd party app to do so. I know of none.

Answer:Bold and Colour Filename in Windows Explorer

Just off the top of my head I don't think Windows offers this type of setting but I could be wrong. There are third party File Explorers that do it I believe but you would have to use their explorer.

If you compress a folder, the filename defaults to blue. Not the greatest workaround but its something.

My main consideration in choosing the appearance of my desktop and windows thereon is clarity, ease of reading any text, and distinguishing between windows at a glance, and also keeping performance to a maximum. To this end, having tried various Aero themes, although I did like the rounded corners of windows, for the sake of clarity I abandoned Aero for my own customized Windows Classic appearance. Not flashy but at least clearer for me than any of the other themes.

Okay, so far, so good. When I installed Win7 I quickly reverted to Windows Classic, and chose for the active window title bar colours dark green as Color 1 and a lightish blue for Color 2 (with yellow text), so there was a gradient from green to blue along the title bar. I'm not bothered about whether anyone else likes that - it's served me well for the best combination of clarity and agreeableness through various Windows versions.

Yesterday I followed a tip from a magazine and ran the Win7 screen colour calibration facility. After I'd run that I noticed that all my active windows had just the dark green and no gradient. When I went into the Personalize facility to change that back, I found that Color 2 was greyed out, so that I could not set it again.

I know this is a silly little point, but actually the gradient did make the active windows look less severe and 'blocky', and I'd like to restore my ability to set the second colour. Reverting to Aero is no option as far as I'm concerned, for to me multiple win... Read more

I've been using windows classic over basic/aero due to streaming purposes (streaming with aero creates issues and I'm not a fan of basic), I like a darker/dark grey theme most of the time as it's easier on the eyes and the bright white windows classic taskbar is a bit of a pain, but I can't figure out a way to change it via personalize\windows colour or anything else.

I recently reinstalled Windows 8.1 after having my hard disk replaced. Everything has been alright so far except that my taskbar colouring seems to be off.

The jump list (popup) menu of my taskbar icons has the same background colour as the background colour of the start screen. As a result, this popup menu is not white but instead the same colour as the start screen background colour. (I have verified that
changing the start screen background colour changes the popup menu too, but white is not an option for the start screen and I would prefer to have them as two different colours.)
Furthermore the "X" for closing all windows and the "pin" for pinning the program to the taskbar do not seem to be in the right place.
Thank you.

On my wife's laptop, updated from windows 7 , the windows logo, if the mouse is hovered over it, changes to a sand colour, not blue as it did at first. The same applies if I "personalise" the screen, when the bloc with "1" is sand, not blue. All but one tile in the start screen, when one left clicks on the windows icon , are sand, not blue. I did try Google, and only found one reference, whose issue disappeared . I am loathe to do a clean install, as I have programmes such as Photoshop CS5 that I do not want to loose. reference was to do with the user issue. I've successfully updated to the November Update. Cortana for Australia, New apps and UI improvements, as well as under the bonnet improvements? Great. But there is one small issue that I just noticed.
Under Personalization > Colours > "Show colour on Start, taskbar, action centre and title bar", I have always left that off as I felt the same colour in the start menu didn't make the tiles stand out. But now it changed the colour of the title bar, so I was intrigued and gave it a spin again.
Left it switched on and I went on to do other things. I decided to sign in to the Xbox app for Windows 10, and everything was going good until I decide to minimise the app: the minimize buttons were not in the upper right hand off the window where they usually are.
Then I found them, in the same place coloured black, against the dark title bar of the Xbox app.
When I turned off the "Show colour on Start, taskbar, action centre and title bar" option. I clicked back on the app and I could see them more clearly, now coloured in white. I didn't take a screenshot of it, but the effect also was visible when I use my Edge Browser since I selected a dark theme for that as well. I took a screenshot of that and I'll post the two here.
Notice the highlighted red boxes and the difference between the two, both times the Edge browser was selected.

Answer:Windows 10 November Update: Title Bar Colour Issues

It needs to be reported to Microsoft via the Windows Feedback app so they can get a fix out for this as soon as possible.

I am running windows 7 pro 64 bit on 4.4GHz 6core Intel with 16GB RAM, 400Mbps SSD drive, water cooling and 2 quad output Firepro ATI graphics cards.

I want to run in windows 7 basic colour mode.

Why? Because aero really sucks in my opinon.

1. Being able to see through the top bar to what's behind is not important
2. windows key tab is way slower to find what you want than alt+tab
3. screen capture software doesn't always like it
4. whilst deciding where to put an app it thinks i am shaking it and everything disappears
5. when i move stuff, it snaps to full height or left right when i don't want that (make it with the min/max/restore options please)

There is really nothing in it that I can see if of any real use, other than just bling.

However if you set to "adjust for best performance" that version is a bit too old looking.

Basic is perfect for me, however it does not persist on reboot.

Any ideas how I might do that?

Thanks

Hi all. I am John, new to the forum and unfortunately not at all computer 'minded' when it comes to a problem, so, can somebody help me please?

Our old PC runs windows 98se, and has decided to loose its colour and picture clarity. There are still some colours there, but its like even those have lost their depth. The pictures seem very 'grainy', like the pixels are far to large, and the image is difficult to see. When the machine starts up though, the windows logo 98 comes up fine, with the right colours and clarity, but after that everything alters.

The PC has a standard VGA graphics card, and when the main screen comes up with the 'icons', i get a message saying ' youmust be running 256 colour mode or higher. I am unable to alter this via the control panel, the adjuster wont work. The motherboard has the following on it;FC Canada close class B ICE5, EA00D009323332 and P8HC006604.

Please help, bearing in mind that I would sincerely appreciate simple and easy to follow instructions.

thanks very much,

To find out what kind of video card you have, go to control panel->system->hardware->device manager->video adapters(or something like that) then open up the thing inside the video adapter and it should tell you what your video card is. Go to the card manufacturer's website and look up your video card and download the driver for it.

Is there any software which makes it possible to make folder names in windows explorer differentially coloured?

Answer:make folder names in windows explorer in colour

Hi Fly,I'm not sure if this will help,as you say it's just the folder "Names" ie text you wantto appear differently as is possible on msn etc. However if you are just trying to make folders different rather than the yellow colour, you can change the folder appearance by going to the particular folder:- Right click > scroll to Properties > customize tab > down to change icon > then scroll to a suitable icon of choice, music for example....Sorry if you already know this,as I know its not EXACTLY what you asked.Depends how much you know I guess :-) Ma6ician

All my specs are on my profile (this isn't a new computer btw, it's about 2 years old). I've been trying to install windows on my computer after a drive crash (bought a new SSD) and after the initial loading and the windows logo this shows up.
What seems like a RGB calibration screen, a completely white, a grey and a black screen alternate over and over in a loop. This is the only over instance of the problem I've been able to find, but nothing useful came out of it (I have the same screen, but it doesn't seem relevant since it works fine).
I'm currently using the computer in question running Ubuntu 14 (installed off their live CD) and it works like a charm. I have also tried different install CDs and the same problem occurs. The only other thing which seems remotely relevant is that during the bios screen, the aspect ratio is wrong and part of the text is cut off because of it.
Please. Help me SevenForums. You're my only hope.

What happens if you boot to Safe Mode or select Enable low resolution video (640x480)?
If it boots then try installing a different video driver, newest or an older one.

Right so, anyone here know where in the registry one can find window colour and appearance entries?

It's probably customizable, and a ripe opportunity to enhance windows look.

And if you know some alternate way of customization please post below.
>the default built in thing just doesn't cut it<

Thanks,"TrashZone" much appreciated.

Edit:
Hadn't found registry location for window colour and appearance by sourcing General Tutorials yet, if you know it please post below.

Dear all,
I have my friends Whatsapp chat text file with me. I am unable to see the emoticons inside it using Notepad, Wordpad, MS Word, Notepad++. I came to know that emoticons are encoded in UTF-8 font. Can anyone please help me in solving this problem? I want to view the emoticons with original colour. Is there any software for Windows that do this? Or is there any other method so that I can see my Whatsapp chat with my friend on PC and that too with all emoticons.

Operatins System: Windows 7
