None responsive at switch on

Question: None responsive at switch on

My daughters pc will not respond when it is switched on. There is power going to the speakers via the kettle plug lead for the speekers, but Windows doesn't boost up at switch on. The monitor works as there is power going to it. The processor is a CYRIXIII,64ram,4gig hard drive,SIS530 CHIPSET. Win98,WinOffice2000 & 32ram have just been fitted in the last few months. It also has Norton Antivirus2001 installed. The CDrom does not respond either. PS PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN THANK YOU..........

Preferred Solution: None responsive at switch on

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: None responsive at switch on

firstly check the lead and fuse in the plug, check the switch on the back of the power supply if there is one, is the power supply starting?(fan spinning)

I have been troubleshooting this problem for months and I cannot figure out what's going on.

Problem:

The computer randomly freezes and becomes unresponsive. It also makes or horrific sound (like loud glitching static). Every time this happens, I have to flip the switch on my PSU to reboot. This happens while internet browsing, leaving the computer at idle (with minimal applications running) and ironically has never happened while gaming.

I'm running windows 10 and have this hardware

I5 2500K
8GB RAM
Nvidia 770 4GB
MSI P67A-G43
Kingston SSD 120GB

Things I've tried:

At first I thought it was audio drivers not playing nicely and noticed that Nvidia constantly had installed drivers thanks to windows 10. I disabled the Nvidia driver and left the HD Audio driver enabled. That didn't work.

I tried various memory tests, Memtest86, windows memtest etc.

I even did a fresh install of windows 10 and that "seemed" to help but the problem's back more than ever. With windows 10 auto driver install it still could be driver related. I even disabled the feature in windows 10 preventing driver downloads and installs but that doesn't seem to prevent W10 from installing more driver updates. I even changed the regedit to prevent this and W10 went and updated the registry for me.

Here's where I'm stuck.

Since I don't get error logs (that I'm aware of) I don't really know how to troubleshoot here. Most problems tend to go towards software but I don't know how to pin it d... Read more

Answer:Random Freezing (non-responsive) that requires PSU switch reset

In 99.9% cases it's hardware failure. Lack of power, overheating etc. With OS/SW/drivers failure, you'd get BSOD/GSOD errors and would show in error logs.

Hey everyone.

So my PC began acting up and I have a feeling it started when I was looking for video editing software and came across a video editor called "softonicdownloader_for_Windows-live-movie-maker.exe" I'm sure it's a virus or something because problems with my PC began shortly after getting this.
I deleted and uninstalled what I could, went into safe mode and ran the latest updated version of malware bytes. It got 5 infected files that were deleted.

After doing so, I had little success. Here are still the issues with the PC

#1 Desktop and start menu programs won't respond. Can be clicked and the arrow with hourglass will show up, but with no response. Sometimes clicking on them will freeze and lock up. Sometimes they will, but it is only after several manual shut downs. If it does respond (such as clicking on internet explorer), upon closing out the program it will not respond again without a manual shut down.

#2 Boot up is a lot slower, will stay on "Loading your personal setting... Read more

which one would be better for fps gaming (more specifically cs:s)

since they give you the option of changing the responsiveness, i'm guessing this doesn't matter? or does it?

i have a A4 tech mouse that's more very sensitive, while a logitech optical mouse (i think nubius has it, he recommended it to me when i asked for a mouse) that's less sensitive

which would be better (or it doesn't matter?)

Need to no if I have this right

they have a dsl modem going to a Linksys router to a 24 port switch then to a little 4 port switch. sure, so then Would it be modem to router then router to any port on the big switch or is there an uplink port on the big switch it should go to? then you would hook a cat5e from one of the regular ports on the 24 port switch and run it to the uplink port on the 4 port switch need to no if the whole sequence is right. Hope someone can help, john will told me the cable would go from the big switch to the uplink on the small switch but I am wondering if I have it all right or not and wonderiing about from the router to the 24 port switch does the cable just go in a regular port in the big switch or if there is an uplink port does it go there. Hope you can understand my rambleing here. Thanks (please don't send me to a link) just need to no modem to router to regular port or uplink port on 24 port switch then from regular port on 24 port switch to uplink port on the 4 port switch. Thanks

Answer:Solved: Windows xp hookup question for modem, router, switch, to switch?

Router to uplink port on 24 port switch, and then normal port on the 24 port switch to uplink port on the second 4 port switch. An auto-MDX port on a device negates the need to worry about uplink ports for that particular cable connection.

I have Windows 7 Professional on my PC. In the first load I had, the PC should automatically detect if the LAN cable was plugged in, turn off the wireless radio, and change the network icon in the right bottom corner to reflect the cable was now in use.
Unfortunately, I had to reload my PC, and since then I can't get it to do it again.
So, what I'd like to achieve is this: Have Windows automatically detect when the cable is plugged in, turn of the wireless radio, and change the network icon in the right bottom corner to reflect the cable is in use - and, obviously, vice versa.
Can someone tell me what I need to do, please?

Answer:Have Windows 7 automatically switch to LAN when cable is plugged in and switch to wireless when it's removed

Hi,
There are two methods can help you.
1. Go to <Network and Sharing><Change Adapter Settings> and right click your wired and wireless adapters one at a time to change the properties. Select IPv4, click <Properties>
then click <Advanced>. For each one, clear the "Automatic metric" check box and assign the metric value manually. Setting your wired adapter?s metric value lower than wireless adapter one, such as ?1? for wired adapter and ?2? for wired adapter.

2. Go to <Network and Sharing><Change Adapter Settings>,
hold down 'alt' to bring up the "File" menu, select "Advanced", select
"Advanced Settings" from the dropdown menu, adjust the priority of your wired adapter higher than your wireless adapter in the "Advanced Settings" window under the "Adapters and Bindings" tab.
Hope this helps. Please remember to click ?Mark as Answer? on the post that helps you, and to click ?Unmark as Answer? if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

Question: XP non responsive

Hi

Earlier today I installed Outpost Free Internet Security, it crashed my network connection so I uninstalled it, then had to perform system restore. Then I opened MS Outlook and PC turned itself off immediately and restarted. Message came up that Windows had recovered from a serious error.
Came on tonight no programs would open, i have put Xp disk in to try and fix and it seems okay(ish).
Other anomaly is that i keep getting message " this computer has undergone significant hardware changes since Xp installed and XP needs reactivation within 3 days. I have had to do this on average once a month including today.
I rang Microsoft to activate over the phone and spoke to a real, very helpful person who also found it strange that it keeps asking to reactivate.

Anyway I have attached the logs from event log, dont know where else to look for errors. Please if you can help i would appreciate it as I am pulling my hair out.

What is Okay(ish) really mean? does the computer work properly, and do all of your programs work? You do not have to include all of the logs. Just instances with a red X the yellow warnings don't mean that much, and the logs are too long to read through.
You can do some maintenance. Go to Start/Run and type chkdksk C: /R and press enter. Then press a Y for Yes and then restart the computer. Check Disk will run at next bootup to fix any file errors. You can also go to Start/Run and type SFC /scannow and press enter. Put the XP CD in and it will replace any missing files from the CD. If you don't have a current Anti-Virus Software, download the free Microsoft Security Essentials (do not have more then one AV software program on your computer at a time) and do a full scan. Also go to Start/Run and type dfrg.msc and press enter, highlight the C: drive and press Defrag Now.

My friend finally brought his pc into me and asked for my help in fixing it as he has not been able to use it for the last 2 years!!!He blames virus infections and he is not wrong. He keeps getting the dr watson postmortem debugger message and I have turned this off in the registry by changing the Aeopen value to 0 from 1.I have instaled most of the recommended fixes from a previous thread and run sfc /scannow.Over 1500 objects were detected by a-squared and I've not been able to run a AVG virus scan yet as the main problem is that now I'm getting an Explorer error (explorer.exe - application error)and cant open any explorer window or control panel in normal boot, but I can in safe mode. The pc is running windows xp sp2.Your suggestions would be most appreciated please.

First, turn off the caps lock key, unless it is broken too. That is considered rude.To get any meaningful help you need to give some information about the system, how old it is, when the problem started, other problems with it, what happened unusual right before it.So info on the computer including the make and model number and the power supply, including maker and wattage (it's on the side of the power supply inside the case).See below. Windows GDI update for 2k3. My IIS 6.0 server just started getting flaky on me. Only one website - all ISAPI shutdown - only .asp extensions allowed. URLScan 2.5 installed.

No notice in the logs - just an unresponsive IIS 6.0 server. Doesn't appear crashed, and no insane processes - i.e. no hogs. However, it just goes down - and I have to restart IIS 6.0 to get it running again.

Nothing has changed- except for a patch from microsoft a few days ago that was a "GDI update". Anyone else seeing IIS 6.0 flakyness in the last 2 days?

I thought it might be a DOS or something - but wouldn't a syn attack shut down all my interfaces? Or just the interface in question? What kind of logs would I look for to see some kind of attack? I have Scan Alert which scans my server and reports 0 vulnerabilities. So - at least I have taken care of some of the obvious attacks.

anyone have thoughts for debugging or unravelling this issue?

Thanks

Ok my brothers PC is having some issues. It will load into XP and all the desktop icons will pop up but you just cant click on anything. I am not sure if it is supported by the forum but I used the latest Hiren's Boot CD 9.9 to boot into mini xp ran spybot search and destroy and kapersky - came back with nothing. Also tried other programs but no others seem to work. Anyone know anything about this and the PC problem? Thanks

Answer:XP Non Responsive

Try booting into Safe Mode. If that works, you can try running MalwareBytes and SpyBot Search & Destroy from there.

If it doesn't, try booting from the XP CD and performing a Repair.

The F11 key does not let me get to system recovery and the computer goes to a black screen with a blinking cursor - Windows 7 Operating System. Question: Non-responsive HDD

(I'm sending this from wife's laptop so TSG Sysinfo not much use!)
System: 'Advent' tower PC, Intel Core i7 3440 3.4Ghz Quad Core CPU; 12Gb RAM (DDR3); 2Tb HDD (Seagate)(SATA), using Windows 7.

Sequence of events:
1 Attempted to reboot PC following a minor update but PSU did not power up - it wasn't a particularly quite unit so silence pointed to a PSU fault. On removing the cover, the CPU cooling fan was not operating either, confirming no power.

2 The OEM PSU (CWT GPA450P) was not easily replaceable. Having had to replace PSUs in earlier PCs, I opted for a Corsair CX500M. At this point, I committed the cardinal sin of not practising what I used to preach before I retired - having replaced PSUs before, I did not think I needed to RTFM! Having removed the faulty PSU, I unpacked the replacement and fitted the black box in position before noticing that there were some significant differences between the OEM PSU's 'open' cable loom and the Corsair's sleeved loom. One of these difference was that instead of the 'old fashion' direct cable links to the SATA devices, there was a variety of alternative modular connectors. Had I read the Manual, of course, I would have seen that these plug into the PSU via black sockets on the face of the black CPU box but at this point, they were now hidden in the dark depths between the PSU and the back end of the DVD drive housing. Instead, I looked around for a connector that fitted a 4-pin ... Read more

Answer:Non-responsive HDD

Hello, unfortunately there is a very good chance that the HDD was damaged by the psu incident. The easy way to determine that would be to remove the hdd and then hold it while the pc is turned on. You should be able to hear and feel the platters spinning. After that, just to make sure, you can use a sata to usb adapter and plug it in to a different computer and see if it detects it.

Question: IE Not Responsive

I hope I am posting in the right place. My Windows 7 pc has been acting up for quite a while. I am not sure if it's an ISP issue or just my pc. When I am running IE or Firefox or Chrome, my websites become non-responsive. Or I will click on a link and nothing happens. It is very "jumpy" meaning pages seem to lock and then switch to new pages after some time has passed. I get the message box pop-up saying that IE is uisng so much RAM and it is usually over 250 MB. I am not sure if it's a hardware issue or internet issue. I did a speedtest and came back over 4 mbps. My issues seem to get worse by the evening. I don't have many issues when using software...just internet websites.

Hi, I have a Lenovo t420s with dualboot win7 and Ubuntu. I never had any problems until now and could switch on/off my wireless and bluetooth connections via the Hardware Switch (right bottom left of the notebook) or via FN + F5. However, without any specific reason the wireless and bluetooth was switched off and the the system tells me that I have to switch on WIFI via the Wireless Radio Switch. However, although I can move it, it doesn't make any difference for the Switch. I tried to reset the BIOS to Default and changed the network settings, and also rebooted several times. I won't work with any of the two systems. Any advice would be greatly welcomed!!! Any suggestions?  Thanky so much! Best, Ernest

Answer:t420s wireless radio switch doesn't switch on / broken

Welcome to the forum.

It's possible that the switch is broken. IIRC the switch is installed on a small circuit board that connects via a ribbon cable. It's also possible that this cable is not making good contact. I would suggest that you examine the switch and board for these sorts of issues.

You can get detailed instructions for opening up the T420s and locating components in the Hardware and Maintenance Manual.

I am not sure what happened here but I have been using Local User to sign in for a couple of years since I installed Windows 10 but suddenly after a reboot, I am now forced to use MS account login. Note, for my initial install, I did use a MS account but then I did not like it and was able to change it to Local user and was using that ever since.

I have searched for solutions but can not find anything that works. Trying to change it directly via the settings/account results in:
Error code (0x80004005) and message: "We're sorry, but something went wrong. Your Microsoft Account wasn't changed to a local account."

I have also tried adding another 'family member' account and get this error:
"We couldn't connect to Microsoft family right now, so your family on this device might not be up to date."
Clicking on add a family member at this point anyway, opens a box that says 'Something went wrong'.

Any solutions that I did try from other sources have not helped.

Does anyone have any idea if this suddenly came with a Windows update, or something I did to myself? Any armstrong ways to fix this and get back to a Local User for sign on to Windows?

Thanks,
Larry

I just got an alienware 13 r3 laptop w/ win 10 pro pre-installed. The hard drive is one 500gb ssd drive. I wanted to partition the drive so that my OS was on a 140gb partition, and then the remaining volume for a media drive.

I wasn't able to shrink the original install volume down enough so I had to do a clean install. I used the media creation tool to create a bootable usb drive. The usb drive was bootable and setup would load but at the media selection page there were no drives visible.

After some research and whatnot I was able to determine that disabling Secure Boot and switching the sata mode to AHCI from RAID did the trick. I was able to re-partition and install win 10 pro.

I have turned Secure Boot back on and I got a warning when I made the change do but the system still boots fine. I haven't changed the sata mode back to RAID because I get a similar warning message and I'm not sure if it will have any effect.

Do I need to? Does it matter? Will it cause a problem? It's a laptop with one drive, does raid even matter in that situation?
This is for UEFI boot systems not legacy BIOS but it may still apply. I don't know.

Thanks for your help.

Answer:Had to Switch to AHCI to Do Clean Install/Re-partition, Switch Back?

I don't see any reason to use RAID if it has only one drive. Maybe I am missing something, though. I would leave it on AHCI.

The way you would change it, though, would be to boot into Windows in safe mode. Delete the device manager entry from the AHCI drive controller. Reboot the computer into UEFI settings and change the mode to RAID. Reboot the computer back into Windows safe mode. Turn off safe mode, reboot the computer back into normal Windows and hope for the best.

I have a wireless router connected to my modem, and ALL PC's connect to that for internet.

I also have a gigabit switch I use to transfer data in between several of the machines. I do it quite often and I don't want it eating up the wifi bandwidth.
I have done it before, but it has been a long time and I cannot remember how I forced internet traffic over the wifi and local traffic through the switch
Is the only way to do it to specifically tell Windows to use the IP address of the LAN connection? I know it will work that way, forcing local traffic directly to that IP, but I seem to remember there being an easier way to do this.

Thanks.

One question I need to know

If you go from DSL modem to Router then Router to switch
my question is then
If I wanted to hook another mini linksys switch into the bigger switch would you run the cat5e cable from the first switch to a reg port in the second switch or would you run it to the uplink port and then hook the 1 or 2 computers into the reg ports of the second switch.??

Answer:Solved: Windows xp-question of hookup switch to switch?

Obviously, run it to the uplink port if available.

Is it possible to switch off a laptop screen - laptop runs Windows 7 - and prevent it being switched on again, without inputting a password?

I need to keep the laptop running, therefore I can't put it to sleep and logging-off has become a pain.

I've tried the Power Options, but the display comes on again when the mouse is nudged.

I've also tried "Fn + F6" on my Acer laptop, which switches off the screen, but an accidental key press brings it to life again.

Any ingenious little prog around? None I've seen have that crucial password privacy aspect.

Hi everyone, I searched through the forums but couldn't really find what I was looking for.

Currently we have a DHCP server set up to a switch, that has a special line connecting to a switch in our shop which is just across our back lot, giving network access to the few computers over there. They recently put in a new machine that needs network access, but they have already accidentally cut two ethernet cords. I'm looking to provide a wireless solution for the machine, but I don't want to have to spend a few thousand dollars on a large wireless switch.

Can I plug a wireless router into the switch in our shop, and essentially turn it into a wireless bridge, or is there another, simpler way to do this?

If this has already been answered, sorry for missing it!

Thanks!

Answer:Solved: DHCP Server -> Switch -> Switch -> Wireless

While you could use a router, or even configure the router to act as an access point, why not just buy a true access point? They start at $27: http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCate...ame=Wireless-AP-Bridges-Repeaters&Order=PRICE

We have 3 16 port switches connected to our router. Everything has been in place and working well since last May.
Beginning this week, as soon as one employee arrives and turns on his pc, every pc on that switch loses internet access. Not network access - can still see other pc's - just no internet.

The pc causing the problems is the oldest on our network, but it is running Win10 like the others. When I check the stats on the router for his IP address, his has the highest transmission numbers.

We are scheduled to replace that pc within the next 2 weeks, but is there something I can/should look at doing in the mean time?

I've currently got a router setup with a 10/100 card as the external NIC, and an Intel 10/100/1000 card as the internal NIC, and am running a pure Gigabit network (through a Dell Powerconnect 2608). Yes, I know, without jumbo frames the performance won't be nearly as good, but I got all of the hardware cheap, so isn't a big deal, and I do do very large file transfers regularly between my file server and desktop.

I've also got a Linksys WRT54g right now that I want to setup as a WAP/switch, ignore it's routing capabilities. If I were to plug the WRT54g into my gigabit switch, and have my Xbox and wireless laptop running off of it, would it adversely effect the gigabit network? I know in wireless networking, having an 802.11b card hooked up to an 802.11b/g network will force all clients down to 802.11b- will the same happen here? Will my gigabit clients be forced down to 100mbit, or will they still run at gigabit speeds to each other, just not to the 100mbit clients?

Answer:Plugging 100mbit switch into gigabit switch effects?

mpeg4v3, it shouldn't affect gigabit-to-gigabit traffic, only traffic going between the router and the gigabit clients won't be at gigabit speeds. Think in terms of 10/100 switches. Plugging in one 10 Mbit client isn't going to force the whole 10/100 network to 10 Mbit, only that port.

And your statement about mixing 802.11g and 802.11b clients isn't necessarily true. 802.11g clients connected to a 802.11g access point with 802.11b clients also present may experience some degredation, but the typically the whole network doesn't slow down to 802.11b speeds. mixing b and g client

I just noticed recently that when I tried to switch from from the Intel Graphics to the Nvidia card, the light didn't come on. Also I don't know if its related, but there is a weird slowness overall with the computer. Everything seems clean and ok. However I thought it be odd the the switch isn't working any longer and I can't access the Nvidia options either because it isn't connected according to the device manager. I can't find any related issue so I decided to post. Any thoughts or recommendations? Thank you for your help.

Answer:Y570 Not able to switch from Intel to nvidia. Switch not working.

I would get it to service if you still have warranty and don't want to possibly void it. Does the silver switch button jump back to its place when you press it? Or does it feel like it hasn't got a spring to push it back?

I am trying to accomplish this:

That is, I have an existing network connecting an office to a colo to the internet. I have a range of public IP addresses assigned to the public interface of a firewall.

I am trying to set up a "public" wireless access network in our office that is completely seperate from our corporate network that we can use for consultants, iPhones, etc that cannot in any way access resources on our corporate network without using VPN.

I envision adding a second loop to our existing network that lives on a seperate VLAN on our switch at the colo that would not have access to our existing VLAN network. I would somehow pass that VLAN traffic across the gigE link to a seperate VLAN on our office switch that would connect to the WAPs of the public network.

Any idea how do do this?

I cannot figure out how to send separate VLAN traffic over the L2 point-to-point link.

My first guess might have to be talking to the people providing you the l2l link between the color and the office.

Would it potentially be easier to just write acls around the "guest access" traffic since you are sharing bandwidth with your production network anyways?

EDIT:

IIRC you are using that sonicwall right? Couldn't you turn one of those ports into your guest access firewall and then do your content filtering and etc with those? Just another thought

Hello, all!

A few weeks ago, we got in a shipment of a couple of Trendnet switches to replace ones that died over the summer.

I hooked one up, absolutely no problem (this one: http://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-16-P...F8&qid=1376386527&sr=8-1&keywords=trendnet+16).

However, when I plugged the other one (http://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-Unma...TF8&qid=1376386720&sr=8-1&keywords=trendnet+8) into the SAME manageable Netgear GS724T V2 that the 16-port Trendnet was working fine with, it wouldn't communicate.

At the time, I didn't think much about it. I just plugged it into the 16-port Trendnet (which it communicates with fine), and went on my way.

However, tonight I have been working on setting up VLANs. All of the devices plugged into the 16-port switch need to be on one VLAN, while the 8-port Trendnet needs to be on another... Since it doesn't communicate with the Netgear (what I am using to manage VLANs), I am unable to do this directly.

Currently how I have it set up, is I took a 5-port Netgear switch we have here, and just used it as the mediator between the two switches.

Does anyone have any idea why this could be? Even for switches that it does communicate with, it takes a good 15-20 seconds before the lights come on. I'm hoping it's something I can fix locally... With the cost of shipping from here to the states, we m... Read more

Answer:Trendnet Switch Not Playing Nice With Netgear Switch

I'd get used Dell, HP. or Cisco gear off eBay before I'd buy new Trendnet, D-link, or even netgear.

Are you passing the traffic to the Trendnet tagged or untagged? If it is tagged, is it passed as a .1q trunk or simply as tagged packets?

Hi Everyone

I have a Toshiba Satellite P200 and there is a problem with the Display , it works and it does not work .

I have done some checks ,the backlight is on , and it works ok with a second monitor .

The question I really want to ask is , where is the switch or contact on the Lid or body of the Laptop that shuts down the screen when I close the Lid?

I have the Laptop stripped down and I can not see anywhere , where there is some sort of contact mechanical or magnetic between the Lid and Palm rest .

I thought that there me have been something where the Lid Latches close but can not see anything around there .

I know there must be something that puts the laptop into Hibernate when I close the Lid , but where is the sensor or whatever located .

cheers

spike

Answer:Satellite P200- where is the switch that makes display to switch off?

I think the sensor is part of the motherboard but cannot say exactly where it could be located.
But as far as I know the JP9 connector (40pin) is used to connect the display.

However, in my personal opinion its not a sensor issue?
If something is wrong with display, you might need to replace either, LCD panel, FL inverter or should check the connection from display to motherboard

Hi,
I am looking to source the switching cable for above. Basically it is a rotating on/off /volume switch on one end of a cable and a 9 pin din type thing on the other that plugs into the bass speaker. The on off part doesn't work and the green on light does not illuminate. I would be willing to pay for such a cable but Maplans etc. haven't got one and Creative no longer manufacture or produce the Creative Inspire T3000 parts and replacement as it has reached its End of Service Life (EOSL)
I'm based in Ireland. any help welcome

Answer:On of switch Creative Inspire T3000 rotating switch /9 pin din?

You could do worse than keep an eye on eBay. There's nothing listed for the T3000 at present, but it could be that other speakers in the Inspire range use the same controller.

I recently was given some extra RAM by a friend. I wasn't sure if it was the correct size for my PC, so I removed the RAM to check. It indeed was the wrong size, so I replaced the RAM and tossed the extra RAM given to me. I'm sure that the RAM stick was placed back into the computer the right way and is fastened down tightly. When I reconnected everything, the computer turned on fine. But it didn't seem to be recognizing the monitor. Nothing was coming up on the screen and instead of the power light being green, it was orange. So, I checked all my connections and tried again. It still wouldn't do anything. So, I checked all the internal connections as well. I hooked a different monitor up and got the same result. At the moment, my situation is the same. Both power lights on the tower and the monitor are orange instead of green. The computer won't respond to any key commands, nor will it even try to initiate opening Windows XP.Anyone have any ideas on what is wrong? Could I have damaged the RAM when removing it? Any help or ideas would be amazing. I have no idea where to start or what to do. I've got a lot of work saved on my computer that I really can't stand to lose. -Thanks

Answer:Non-responsive programs

Hiya

Lets see what you have running, as you may have some background things running causing this problem.

Lets take a look at a log. go to http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please copy & paste its contents to the forum.

It will possibly show other issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

Regards

I originally thought maybe it was some kind of connection issue, but after having both AT&T and the communications company that originally setup our connection come out and verify there is nothing wrong, I'm stuck searching for answers. I know it's not the "temp" or "offline" files as we delete and refresh the pc's all the time.

My computer is Non-Responive more then it is working.  If my memory is correct, I went into the Bios et. al. and set all to maximum performance years ago, as I am a firm believer of keeping the computer COOL!.  I am **bleep** retentive in using cans of compressed CO2 to blow out the computer.  In reading I find that if the Cooling fan is part of the problem that I should get a warning that the fan has failed to perform to spec's.  But my interpretations of this gives me the impression that this is tied to the Intel processor, and not looking at the AMD Radeon GPU 6770M.  As a side note I have also been uninstalling programs at the same time. At first I thought I had a failing CPU, and or a clogged Heat Sink.  In looking into the replacement of a CPU Fan, which I mentioned earlier I should have gotten a warning from the Bios that the fan was failing, I found it was the same cost to buy a new fan as it was to buy a Heat Sink with a new fan.  Once I realized what the Heat Sink looked like, I got to thinking the GPU may be the actual problem of the computer becoming unresponsive, which is why I started wondering if I should replace both the Heat Sink and the AMD GPU. Does anyone have any suggestions, advice other then to throw the computer away.  I would rather to spend some monies and at the same time upgrade the computer to higher spec's CPU and GPU and get another year or two out of the computer as this computer ... OK where do I start

Yesterday (sept [email protected] around 8pm) evening I was prompted to update Mozilla, to the newer 3.5.3. I did just that, after the update it required a restart, did that, I clicked on Mozilla icon to continue my browsing, Mozilla would not load. So now I go and click on the Norton icon to run a scan and see if everything is ok. Norton will not respond either, just the hour glass shows up and then disappears. I go and click on IE and see if that will run for me, it does, and it is slow real slow, I have not used IE for at least 2 years, I figured it was the version I am running.

I decide to restore the laptop back 2 days to get my old browsers versions back, no dice, that was all for last night.

Today I restore the laptop back to AUG 18 and it told me nothing had changed, I was left scratching my head, I installed at least 15 updates the past 3 days, so something should have changed. I tried Norton again, no dice it wont even allow me to get support. I decided after chatting with a fellow fisherman to un install mozilla, and download and run Malwarebytes Anti- Malware. It pulls 268 infected files out, 3 of which are trojan files I restart the laptop and rerun this again and get 42 more files.

I try Norton again, nothing, I re install Mozilla nothing, I try Opera, nothing. Next I download and install Super Anti Spyware save it on my desktop, and restart the laptop in safe mode and run a full scan with SAS it gets 49 more files one of which is a Trojan.media-cod... Read more

Now don't get me wrong here. I like Emsisoft and how it operates. But lately I've been playing my usual games from Steam and from some of my online games like Mortal Online and Elsword, when Emsisoft suddenly steps in saying they're giving off suspicious behaviour.
This has gotten my interest piqued as to why Emsisoft would react to my games like this, especially my Steam games. I recently got Planetside 2 and during play Emsisoft came up with 2-3 reactions.
Is this to be expected of Emsisoft? or would this be a cause for concern?

Answer:Emsisoft being a tad too responsive?

Hi IllusionEclipse,If these games are official Steam games then I'd tend to say that these are false-positives. Any change you can upload the flagged file(s) to http://www.virustotal.com and post a link to the scan results here? I can then have a closer look at this.

Okay, I've Googled this and tried a couple of websites looking for an answer, but so far no luck. At times, for no appartent cause, everything in my taskbar will suddenly become completely non-responsive. I can click away all I want on "Start", on quick launch items, on minimized programs, on icons in the system tray ... nothing, nada, zilch. When I go into the control panel and click on "Taskbar & Start Menu", the same ... no response. It just sits there in sullen indifference (that last bit is peotic licence). The only cure is a reboot.
Can anyone shed some light?
Thanks!!

Hi,

As in the heading of my thread...my PC keeps freezing and is Non-responsive. I have just formatted the HDD and reinstalled WinXP.

It takes forever to open some pages and I have 1gb of ram. My HDD is 120gb and the motherboard is 3.0ghz.

I have a LG DVD burner which is another problem.......and a Nvidia video card

Major software installed is

Win XP home edition with SP2
Bullguard Anti virus
Opera internet browser
PC on point registery fixer
Assorted Popcap games
Microsoft Office for XP
Limewire
Messenger
123 copy dvd

I only know the basics about PC's but I thought that my PC should be a lot faster than it is. I have downloaded all updated drivers for everything.

I am hoping that someone can point me in the right direction to fix whatever problem my PC has.

When it becomes unresponsive and I manage to get the task manager oopen..my CPU usage is only about 5%

Thanks
darby26

Answer:Freezing and Non-Responsive PC

It might be that registry fixer you got there. I remember at one point i had one and after i ran it, my computer would let me logon, but after a few mins it would restart, and i couldnt get it to stop, until i reformated. So you might try re-format again and dont install or run that registry fixer. If that don't fix it try hitting it with a hammer :knock: !!

Best of Luck.

I think I pretty much know the answer to this question however I'm in a slight dilemma.

I have an HP laptop here with the trackpad not responding at all. I dug all of the viruses out of it and reinstalled the drivers several times, as well as a system restore from 10 days ago. But the trackpad still didn't work. I considered re-imaging it since it has a recovery partition with a factory-loaded default image, but instead I decided to pop in a Linux LiveCD.

Upon booting Ubuntu, the trackpad still didn't work.

I checked all Fn keys. Nothing helped activate it. There's also a dedicated on/off button by the trackpad. It of course is enabled.

I think it's pretty safe to say it's hardware related, but my tools are at work and this is bugging the **** out of me. Is there anything else you guys think I should try before I crack this thing open tomorrow?

Answer:Trackpad Not Responsive.

There is a cable that connects that trackpad to the MB, while you do have to take a lot of the laptop apart to get to this cable it isan't as hard to get to as the processor. I agree, it does sound hardware related (assuming you've hooked up an external mouse and it worked) and if the plug is fine, you may need to replace the track pad.

My Pavilion laptop has a button right above the trackpad that turns it off - stupid i know but just make sure that light is on if your laptop has that button.

Hey everybody this is my first post on Techguy,

The reason Im posting is because My Laptop, which ive had for about a year now, Is an HP dv1000 model if I remember correctly( im in the library right now) and when I went to turn it on saturday afternoon all it did was turn on and stay on a black screen, it did not respond to me pressing any button at all and even my wireless usb mouse didnt get signal. I left it on untill the batter ran out to see if that worked and when I turned it back on it was still the same. I also tried putting a music CD in but that didnt affect it at all. Sorry if this is in the wrong section but Im not sure where the problem is coming from.

Thanks in advance

Hi i've encountered an issue which I can't solve by myself.

My PC has been incredibly stable up until today - booting suddenly takes forever, explorer takes ages while loading icons on my desktop, trying to use right mouse button or open folders results in complete hang of the system. If i wait long enough until all desktop icons are loaded, i can even open browser and some folders but eventually explorer or PC hangs anyway, not to mention that everything is working sluggish.

I can open the task manager and check resource usage, also AIDA actually load successfully and according to them - there is no increase in CPU or RAM loads.

I've tried running Eset online scanner and I've checked my system disk with Avast! - they didn't find anything. I've used hijackthis but found no suspicious entries. I've also used combofix but it found only some harmless .dlls none of which were unknown to me.

I am able to load Vista in safemode without non essential programs but the issue exists even there, despite slightly faster booting and icon loading times.

Unfortunately I cannot use system restore and even though I do have complete pc archive - so far I wasn't able to use it, since it's not available in safemode and during normal boot my PC usually hangs before I am able to get to control panel.

At this point I've exhausted all known options and solutions and would welcome any help or suggestions whatsoever. Could it be sudden hardware issue? If so - what could be respons... Read more

That brought up several major areas or topics with the option to select one by cuing on a "button" for that one.
However, that accomplishes nothing, regardless of whether I click with the left or right mouse button. There are no url's, (?) to copy or select, nor could I find anything else to select or cue to open the sub category.
Not sure what is going on! Why set things up so one can select a topic if selecting does nothing.

For the past week or so, I have had problems with a computer, and browsers and webpages becoming slow or giving error messages. Trying Microsoft Fix-It the whole system froze. Tried to do an XP repair with nil results, so did a full format. All seemed well until I tried to do updates,Avast Ok, connection to internet Ok, then on reboot, goes as far as the XP motif and then shutdown, with repeating events.
Trying now to boot with the original XP disk, so as to try a repair or reformat, and the computer will not boot from disk. Previously the computer use to ask 'Boot from disk-None' and went into start mode. Now no message.
I hope that I have explained okay. Any help would be appreciated, so as to get the computer working again..

Last night I was showing a young child my FSX, and all the things that you could do with it. Somehow he started playing with the keyboard and the next time I opened up FSX the joystick movements were not responding in the aircraft. I checked it out by using FS 2004, and no problem, it worked fine, so the connection wasn't the problem. I think it must have been due to the kid playing on the keyboard which made the jostick unresponsive when using FSX. Can you help please.

this happens to me alot using my flight stick and xbox360 controller. when you start up fsx keep your flight stick unplug till you get passed the loading screen. pause your fsx plug in the flight stick and wait for a minute for the computer to load it in now go to your controller and see if it is active you might have to select it rather then the mouse for controlles. also add if you have fsuipc. cause it could be the problem as well always good idea to add it when asking for assistance. because it has speacail key and joystick assignments as well

I have a problem that I've not had before.  My desktop monitor shows the screen that it would show if I had pressed the monitor button that controls the brightness, width, height, etc. of the screen.  The desktop computer will not respond to ANYTHING, including keyboard, mouse, ctrl-alt-delete, etc.  I turned the computer off and re-started it, and still no change.  I turned off the power strip, waited a few minutes, turned everything back on, and still no change.  The only thing working is my internet connection, and I know this because I can use the laptops in the house with the wireless card.  At this point, I can't use the desktop computer or the printer.  Any ideas?

Hi,
I have a system that when you log-off of a user to get back into the start screen to log in as another user, the keyboard is non-responsive but the mouse works. You have to restart to get the keyboard working again.
I am logging out of a limited rights account into an administrator account
or visa versa.

XP Pro with all updates
no name clone
AMD Athlon 1.16
2GB RAM

Does anyone have any thoughts as to how to fix this bug.

TIA

Nick

Answer:non responsive keyboard after log-out

Almost sounds like the drivers for the keyboard are not on the other user's account. Be sure that it isn't some software that was set to -only- the administrative account. I've never encountered it doing that myself, as I only use one account, but that's my best guess. Anyone else have a suggestion?

This normally takes a couple of days for it to start occurring but after that when I lock the system when I log back in explorer.exe is non responsive. Once it becomes unresponsive once though every time I lock the system and come back it is unresponsive again.

None of the apps running at the same time seem to be in common. I think the only app I have not eliminated yet was Chrome.

I ran memtest overnight and it didnt have any errors. I also ran MBR Check Super Anti Spyware and TDSSKiller and they came up clean.

I disabled all non ms apps using shellexec and action center is clear. I also verified and made sure all drivers are current.

The event viewer doesn't show anything of value. Just that it become unresponsive.

I am pretty much stumped at this point. This is a brand new system too.

Any advice would be great.

Recently had problems with computer flashing multiple windows of emails or advertisements.  Thought the was computer infected so I just reformated the HD and reloaded XP Pro and SP2.  After what appeared to be a successful load, I went to load the two programs, which also appeared to load successfully.  When I went to load the new printer drivers, the computer became non responsive.   It appeared to lock up.  When I went to see if one of the new programs would boot up, I double clicked on the desk top, and mouse pointer/hour-glass would constantly flash at different points on the screen.  So I went to the Start menu and went to 'all programs'.  When I attempted to leave the 'all programs' to select the program I wanted, it would send me back to the dest top, and I couldn't get either of the programs to start.   I tried a different video card but the problem is the same.  I can't get any of the programs to respond.    Appreciate any advice.

Hi! I have been having an issue with my touchscreen... it doesn't respond at all. My laptop is the HP Pavillion Notebook 15 in touchsmart (N5P48UA#ABA). As of recent it has not been functioning period. Everything else works fine on the laptop, and there are no damages or cracks in the screen. Steps I have taken to resolved the issue (all have failed):I cleaned off the screen with a screen-wipe I restarted my laptopI restored the laptop to factory settingsI received chat support and then remote support from HP (didn't do anything)I spent over an hour on the phone with HP support (wasted time)And of course, I have done plenty of research on the internet. Conclusions that may aid a solution. After spending a ton of time trying to fix this, I know what the problem is not. In Device Manager there are only two drivers listed under Human Interface Devices (HID- compliant wireless radio controls & HP Wireless Button Drive). Its almost like the touch screen driver... doesn't even exist. As a side note, while the touchscreen was working, There were several more drivers listed under the HID section... its almost like they dissapeared. On the HP site, there are drivers that you can download, but the HID drivers that I need are not listedThe touch HID drivers are not ... My pc has lately as expected gone very slow and not as responsive.
At the start-up especially. I have to wait a good 2mins before touching anything or things start to 'Not respond' and such.

I was wondering if you guys could recommend me ANYTHING that I could do to speed up my pc significantly.
Exclude, formatting my pc / buying new parts.

Thanks for your time.

Answer:Slow/Not responsive

First verify you're defragging your drive regularly. Vista is normally set to do this automatically so I doubt fragmentation has anything to do with it, but you should check to make sure.

Second, run antivirus. Sometimes a virus can slow a PC down. Again, I doubt this has anything to do with a slow PC, but it might.

Third, check your startup programs. If your PC is running slow at startup in particular, one real possibility is that you have a bloated number of programs and services starting up. Go through the list in msconfig and see if there's anything you can disable. Also use the Services console for the same thing.

Post PC specs. You might be low on resources.

I have a computer running XP SP2 + all updates to date, for a few months now when you go to press the start button the system can take upto 30-60 seconds to respond, once it does your right for another few minutes then stop's responding for another 30-60 seconds and keeps repeating this cycle. I have checked all running processors and there doesn't seem to be anything there that should be.

My initial thinking is that it's trying to check something which holds the system up regular???? Anyone else have this or seen this problem???

When I click on the hub icon (favorites, reading list, etc.), I get no response. It's stuck on reading list. Clicking on favorites does nothing.

Answer:Edge Hub is not responsive

Does Edge totally freeze up then too(happened to me when viewing Downloads). The only thing that eventually helped was clearing everything(nuking the cache). I suppose it was a corruption.

OK, I booted up my computer and then left it for several hours, working on it from my laptop with remote desktop. When I came back to it(never left the house) it was off. I said to myself, thats weird and tried to boot it up and nothing happens except when I flip the switch back and forth on the ps, I get a brief light to flicker next the power button. The lights are all on on the mobo, it just won't boot. I can't get any fans to turn on, no sounds at all.

What do you think my problem is???

Answer:Computer non responsive

Sounds like the power supply might be shot. Incidently flicking it on an off can cause surges which may cause more damage.

I have An ECS K7S5A Pro mother board with a keyboard that won't respond. This is one of the stangest issues I have have ever come across dealing with keyboards. When the computer boots it will boot into Windows XP and the keyboard will not respond but the mouse responds and device manager shows no keyboard listed and no conflicts. Then when you reboot the computer and try to access the bios the the key board still won't respond and the computer boots into Windows as before. No "no keyboard" errors are posted on boot up. I have tried all of the standard trouble shooting techniques (trying different keyboards switching cables etc...). Is the anybody that has come across a systoms like this? I am reluctant to condem this MB because I don't know for sure whats wrong Thanks Scott

Answer:Non responsive Key board

Is the keyboard standard PS/2 or the USB kind ( too lazy to check on the specs of the board).
But let's assume that the keyboard is the PS/2 kind. If you tried the usual "song and swap" and still no response, then it's the board chip that is messing up. I would give it a last shot, but looking on the mobo and trying to clear up the CMOS if you haven't tried it yet.

Hello guys.

My first post on here.

I have a real problem with my laptop. It started playing up a few weeks ago, and would freeze after clicking to open a picture.. The egg timer would come up but it wouldnt open the picture.. After tapping the touchpad a few times, the message would appear "not responding" I then would have to clixk the red x and it would then bring up another box saying do you wish to end this not responding program..I click end now and it would then shut down internet explorer.. Doing this and starting again seemed to work, but it started to get more frequent.

Ive now got problems trying to sell things on ebay. The program freezes on the add picture page on every attempt.

Ive used my symntec antivirus and that says things are all ok.. Ive bought this registry cure thingy and that hasnt helped either.. Its now doing my head in.. Any ideas?

Ive tried scandisk, defrag.. but still to no avail, and the computer is defo slower than it used to be..

Im not the most intelligent pc lad.. so be gentle...

PLEASE HELP>>

George

Hi, I cleared a trojan out of my system about 3 weeks back and for some reason I can't use the taskbar whenever I restart. I've downloaded TaskbarPlusRepair tool program and the only way I can actually use the taskbar is by using this program each time I restart, which is beginning to get quite tedious... Each time I use it, the program restarts the Windows Shell thing, does anyone know how to just have this start up along with everything else?
Thanks

Hi Tech Guys!!

This probably seems like a trivial problem to you.

when I try to run certain apps from my desktop, the desktop just crashes

I have tried reinstalling Windows twice now and have come across the same thing on each fresh Install!! THE PROBLEM IS FOLLOWING ME

When I start in safe mode the problem does not occur at all

It is not just the desktop though, if I go to my docs and to the desktop folder, they dont load from there either, just crashes "my computer"

Its the same for any app I try to run with a few acceptions, i.e itunes, Firefox, MSN

Cheers for your help guys!!!!

i was repeatedly getting kicked out(nonresponsive programme error) of Microsoft IE so i switched to Mozilla FF, however i can't access some sites from Mozilla(security reasons(?)) so need to go back to M/soft. Is there a way i can access these sites from Mozilla or can you help me fix my M/soft IE?

Answer:non responsive programme

Like which sites cant you get into that you would in microsoft? There should be no difference if u import ur settings from internet explorer to mozilla. I would check ur Internet Options.............. start...settings...control panel...internet options...in there is security and all the stuff u need to adjust.
