Preferred Solution: zone alarm alert OE wants server permission?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: zone alarm alert OE wants server permission?

Yes you do want Outlook Express to act as a server, go into the program window in Zone Alarm and make sure you have four ticks in OE line, have a look in Start Up (RUN>MSCONFIG>STARTUP) and see what you have running this could be causing slow download, but Hotmail is not the speediest.

Welcome to the Zone Labs User Forum

Zone Labs knows that some of our customers are having issues with the upgrade to ZoneAlarm 6.0, and is working hard to fix the situation.

The cause appears to be related to the upgrade process, not the application itself. Therefore, we recommend users experiencing difficulties uninstall any prior version of ZoneAlarm (v.2.x - v.5.x) residing on their computer system and do a clean installation of their new ZoneAlarm 6.0 product.

We sincerely apologize to any customers affected and appreciate your patience

Question: Zone Alarm alert

Hi all,
Lately I have been getting an alert message from zone alarm that a program is trying to connect to the internet from my computer.( see below )
The firewall has blocked Internet access to 216.119.235.10 (ICMP Unreachable) from your computer.
Occurred: 16 times between 3/7/2002 5:29:26 PM and 3/7/2002 5:43:18 PM
Can any one tell how to identify this address? I did a search on it and also tried to go there directly but, it came up empty. As I'm sure you know, Zone Alarm will tell me who it is if I upgrade to Zone Alarm pro.
Thanks in advance

Don

for the search, it appears to return to:

Since they are in the DSL business -- there might be some connection to your setup.

A "ping", by the way, is just a computer way of determining whether a receiver is there, will respond, and how fast. It is usually a toubleshooting or maintenance technique designed to test performance.

Zone Alarm has alerted me of WNAD.EXE trying to access the internet. I denied it and did a file search and found WNAD.EXE on my hard drive. It is my understanding that this program is spyware from "Twisted Humour"?
Should I delete the file WNAD.EXE from my hard drive or is this a needed "Windows" file for Millennium? Thanks Dave.

Question: Zone Alarm Alert

Since installing the latest version of ZA, I keep getting the following alert:
"ICMP Echo Request (ping)" which is being blocked bty ZA. Is this something I should continue to block or allow?

Answer:Zone Alarm Alert

In my opinion unless you are part of a network, I would continue to block.

This article may help you decide: http://carolinanet.helpserve.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=70

Zone Alarm is a good firewall, but when I used ZA free version, I noticed many attempted hits on my PC. I was amazed at how many there were daily. Funny, but when I switched to Kerio4 firewall the hits dwindled to about nothing. It's almost as if ZA want's to make you think it's working overtime to protect your system. I have read in other forums of folks who feel the same way about ZA.

As I stated before, ZA is a good firewall, but I would take with a grain of salt all the stuff it lists as blocking.

If one doesn't know what is trying to connect to or "ping" their system, better to be safe than sorry and continue blocking.

This of course is just my opinion.

I clicked on my program log in Zone Alarm Personal Firewall and saw the following listed twice: "Zone Labs Client requested permission to access the internet." The security rating was high, and the information was outgoing. The destination was AOL's proxy server. When I clicked for more information, I got a popup box that said: "Notice, in order to gain more information, you must grant internet access rights to the following program: AOL (default browser). Zone Alarm has automatically detected the missing component to add to your list of trusted programs. Do you wish to continue?" I clicked no.

What is happening here? Who is Zone Alarm client (me?) and why is it accessing the Internet without telling me about it? I received no alert that I was aware of. I did access a chat program a couple of times, but that is listed separately on the log just once, and I did get an alert when I signed on to that, at least the first time. Would the other times have shown up just as Zone Alarm client reaccessing the program?

Why does it say that I have to grant access to AOL, when AOL already has access/always has access on the Program Control screen? And what does that mean, about adding a missing component to my list of trusted programs?

I have this ongoing worry that someone who has threatened to hack me has gained access to my computer. Please tell me if I have anything to worry about here. I'm sorry if my questions sound stupid or naive.

About those Zone Alarm firewall alerts. I have used ZoneAlert for years so when i receive an alert, i kinda just ignore them. Zone Alarm usually says my computer is protected and it was probably just internet noise or something that popped-up the alert.

This time i am curious because the Alert gave a 'person's name-pc' plus a IP address in the Zone Alert pop-up message. Searching Zone Alarm's home page,i found the following which is related to the Alert. Any thoughts?

"ZoneAlarm blocked access to port 139 on your computer
No breach in your security has occurred. Your computer is safe.
What happened?
ZoneAlarm prevented a remote computer from connecting to port 139 on your computer. If you are sharing files on a local network, this connection attempt was probably legitimate network traffic. Port 139 is commonly used by networked Windows computers to enable file sharing and other resource sharing. However, if the traffic that generated this alert came from the Internet rather than a local network, this may have been attack on your computer..."

Hello All,

I've just started to use Zone Alarm on my computer as suggested by Major Geeks and I had question regarding a Zone Alarm Security Alert.

The Zone Alarm window comes up as: Zone Alarm Security Alert, suspicious behavior. AVG 7.1 Launcher is trying to change your network settings by modifying the file: WINDRVDIR\etc\hosts Allow? Deny?

I know AVG is my virus software, but does this sound ok? Should I allow it?
If it is ok, how do I adjust my Zone Alarm settings so it doesn't keep happening?

Thank you all in advance for your help.

Answer:Zone Alarm Security Alert/AVG

Sounds Okay and if you check "Allow" the message should not appear again, if it does there will be a box say don't show this message again check it and you should be home free. You will get a fair number of these notices from ZA during the first week of usage, that is normal as it is configuring itself. Hope that helps

I have said no as I can't understand why this has suddenly happened, when I have had Zone alarm for months and would have expected any contact between my pc and any other legit computer to have been accessed before now.. the alert was :-HP DMI. file name DmiWDog.exedoes anyone recognise this file name as it looks suspicious to me. any help/info would be appreciated as no doubt I'll be asked again at some point if I want to allow it access.

Have you run a virus scan, plus Ad-Aware and S and D 1.2?ZA quite often asks if you want something to act as a server; usually the answer is no.

Hi,

I have Zone Alarm Pro and I have been getting this security alert - The firewall has blocked access to your computer (NetBIOS Name) from 10.0.0.2 (NetBIOS Name). It does not give me any option to allow or deny, just an OK button to close the message. I beleive that it has something to do with my dsl modem. Or is this a possible hacker attack? Anyone have any ideas what to do, allow it from the alert log, just ignore it or keep blocking it. I also got this message from the free version of zone alarm. Thanks in advance for any answers.

Hi, I stopped coulomb dialer from accessing the internet thanks to Zone Alarm.

Various online scans have found up to 3 viruses.

I'm running Zone Alarm, A-squared, AVG, SpyBot, Ad-Aware, Ewido, Webroot in a bid to clean my system.

My CPU is going back and forth from 6% to 100% usage, and whenever I log in I can't access anything for ages as simply clicking on an icon sends the CPU usage to it's limits and folders etc won't open for at least a minute which is extremely frustrating.

On several occasions I've noticed that Dumprep.exe runs in Task Mgr not long after I log in and if I terminate this process sometimes the CPU drops dramatically.

Even if the CPU usage is low, nothing will open for ages.

My registry is full of crap .exe folders which if I delete just reappear ad nauseum.

I think I may have cleaned the viruses but am not sure, it's just this 100% CPU usage that's driving me insane and crippling my system.

Can someone kindly assist me in this matter.

Thanks

Today I downloaded a free trial version on a Windows 2000 computer. The internet was working fine until I did so. I got half way through the installation and I received a error saying that the installation was unable to complete. After that, the internet no longer would access. It is connected to a network, and showed that it was connected, but it was unable to find the server. The server was unrecognized. Any advice?I would just uninstall Zone Alarm, but it is not on the computer since it did not complete the process.

Answer:Zone Alarm-Server not found??

Try entering Safe Mode and reinstalling ZA. Then you can check in normal mode to see if you have net access. If you then choose to remove it, it should appear in Add/Remove, but I'd again suggest uninstalling in Safe Mode.

hello, when i get asked if i want to allow something access to the internet,i know what to do but if it then asks me if i want to allow it to be a server, what does this actually mean?thanks

Answer:zone alarm settings,allow as a server?

Server permission allows a program on your computer to "listen" for connection requests from other computers, in effect giving those computers the power to initiate communications with yours. This is distinct from access permission, which allows a program to initiate a communications session with another computer.

I have downloaded the free version of Zone Alarm and have had a few problems in that occasionally I lose internet connection and have to reboot.I also cannot get my head around the Firewall / Programme settings under the heading SERVER. There are two columns Trusted and Internet. It seems from the Zone Alarm PDF that there should not be any programme given access under those headings. I have read the blurb but cannot fathom this out. It is probably my age.Anyone advise?

Answer:Advice needed - Zone Alarm Server setup

As a new user to Zonealarm you will find you will have several popups asking for permission to access the internet,if your surfing habits are genuine and stay away from the dodgy sites...allowing Zonealarm access should not cause you any problems. Most of the firewall settings are set by default,so therefore can be trusted unless you would like to configure it to your own settings. If you are unsure, post the requests from zonealarm and im sure someone here can advise you if to Deny or Allow.Normally a little common sense and reading the destination will advise you if ok.I normally block the ones with no IP address showing, but i got to admit...i dont get many of those.

Answer:zone alarm "svchost exe" act as server

here is some information on SVCHOST
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q314056&

You don't need it to act as server. You should also disable Windows Messenger Service (NOT the same as MSN messenger; the instant chat program)
To make life easy, you can use this to disable the service:http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=3703

I have gone through all the steps to clean and protect my computer (Windows XP Dell) and thought I was really clever. Took me best part of a day. However, my partner can't now connect to the internet from his laptop, (also running Windows XP), and I am about to fall asleep trying to suss out how to find the IP address of the laptop to add to the trusted zone of Zone Alarms: which keeps flashing up messages that various addresses are trying to access my ports!! Help, before I lose all credibility. My computer is now trussed up like a turkey, and I am about to become single again. My computer is about to become disposable.Computer dunce (PS - read the tutorials about TCP and UDP. I thought TCP was good for cuts and bruises? )Moderator Edit: Moved topic to more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

Answer:Unable To Add Laptop To Trusted Zone In Zone Alarm

I'm in the same situation, and have learned a few things. Go to Start > Run >cmd. In the black box, type ipconfig. This will give you the ip address of the computer you're on, as well as the gateway ip address of the wireless router. I also have zonealarm firewall, so I added the ip address to the trusted zone. You may also want to check your wireless router's info because depending on the security you've set, it may ask you for a code (WEP or WPA). Let's start here and see what happens. Sounds like this will be one for many inputs...

Apologies for a novice's question (I am probably missing something obvious)I have an Orange Livebox wired to a desktop and Madame has her laptop connected wirelessly. I am in the process of trying to get both computers to share files and a printer. Also, I am using Zone Alarm and assuming I need to set each computer's trusted zone to accept the other machine, how/where do I find the IP address of the laptop? The Livebox configuration/settings shows the desktop address as 192.168.1.24 but for "Devices Connected" it shows the name of the laptop correctly but the address as a string of pairs of letters & figures separated by colons.

Answer:Computer's IP address/Zone Alarm-Trusted Zone

try click here or on Madame's laptop go to start, run , cmd, ipconfig and that will be her laptop ip address

As per TMacK's instructions I am moving my thread from the "AntiVirus, Firewall and Privacy Products and Protection Methods" forum to here.

I have been really happy with the security that Zone Alarm has offered me so far, but I do have a few gripes with it as of late. If I try to open Firefox while Zone Alarm is running, I will get a "this page cannot be displayed" type error. Same thing if I use Internet Explorer. If I keep refreshing or restarting Internet Explorer it will eventually work. Only them am I able to open Firefox and get it to connect (let me know if that doesn't make any sense). Sometimes I have to shut down Zone Alarm to connect to the internet on either browser and this gets quite annoying. I want to keep the security it brings, but it can e quite a hassle. It also either takes forever or won't allow me to log in to websites like MySpace.com. Does anyone know how I can fix this? Thank you in advance for all of your help .

Hello slyblackdragon,I see you have an open HJT log posted in the HijackThis Logs and Malware Removal forum. You shouldn't make any changes to your system, while your HJT log is posted, as that could change the results of the posted log, making it difficult to properly clean your system. At this point, the HJT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean.I'm closing this topic until you are cleared by the HJT Team. If, after your log has been cleaned, you still need help, please PM a Moderator and we will re-open this topic. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to send me a PM.

OK! Im happy, i just figured out how to access all my computers from just one of them. But i still need to figure out how to set it up so i dont have to shutdown firewalls on both my computers so i can access them. Please tell me step by step instructions. Thanks

Answer:Zone Alarm Trusted Zone setup

Open up the Zone Alarm menu.
Click the Firewall tab.
Click on the Zones tab.
In the white area right click and add ---> ip address
ip range
subnet
host/site
Anyone of these options. If your sharing computers on a network, something like adding an ip range would work. Add the ip range that will cover all the LAN ip's pf your networked computers.

Is Zone Labs client part of Zone Alarm Free? If so, then why does it have to ask Zone Alarm to accept incoming connections from the internet? I just denied it before but maybe it is an update or something. Is this so?

Answer:Zone Alarm/Zone Labs client

zone labs is the company that created zone alarm firewalls (all editions).

And yes, it sounds as though you are denying your updates!

Depending on how you have tweaked your settings....ZA will ask you for permission on anything that requests access to your system.

Greetings:

I'm troubleshooting an issue where IE Zones are getting somehow locked down. I can't add any sites to the Trusted Sites becuase the button is unvailable. The one thing that stands out the most is that the icons are changing for the security zones -- isntead of showing the standard icons, they are displayed as the IE icon with a key in front of it.

Any ideas where this is coming from? This is an install of Windows 2003 Server with Advanced IE Security removed. Browser is IE7.

Answer:IE Zone Permission Problem

Group policies, maybe. I'm not sure what you are describing, but if trusted zones are pushed via GPO then they'll lock down the user's capability to modify them.

Since I had my laptop set for Automatic Updates I received SP2 last night. Seems like it has more security features - supposedly better firewall, popup blocker, etc. And so far it seems to be working fine. But I noticed in the SP2 Security Center info there's a list of programs that won't work with SP2 for various reasons. Zone Alarm is on the list. I've read more about Zone Alarm, and although I tried it before and didn't like it, I might like to try it again. It gets really good reviews. And I'd like to return my ActiveX settings to Default since I continually get warnings. But what about interacting with SP2? And what about any other firewall product interacting with SP2?

Need some experienced advice (that's a given in this group!).

Question: Zone Alarm Pro

I'm using Win XP home and Zone Alarm Pro 4.5. A couple of questions you may be able to help me with.

1. If I reboot my pc and leave it at the log on screen, so that none of the users is logged on, zone alarm is not running I assume as it seems to start when the log on process runs. Is my pc vulnerable after rebooting it and not logging on ?

2. Web Filtering - I want to use expert rules to stop access to a web site that my son uses via a pc connected via ICS. I have set it up and the rules work for my pc, but not his pc. Any idea what to do ? Do I have to apply rules to ALG or another process ? Can't seem to get anything to work.

Answer:Zone Alarm Pro

I use ZA Pro as well. I've always assumed that if you didn't log in, your internet connection was never established. Now you've got me doubting, so I am going to hunt some info on it.

As for blocking the site, you may just want to modify the host file on his computer to block that site. For someone who doesn't know anything about host files, they'd have no idea why their website wasn't working... just a thought.

Question: Zone Alarm Pop-up

Running Zone Alarm 9.1 (free version) and just got a pop-up saying it said New Network Found and listed an IP address I'm not sure of. And lists a type: Public Network Detected.

Then it gives a choice of selecting whether to keep it in the Internet Zone or Allowing it into the Trusted Zone. Then I can also Name this new network (optional). Then Okay or Cancel.

Is this something new or has someone hacked into my computer and is trying to connect to the internet some other way?

P.S. The box is still up asking for this permission and not sure whether to allow it or not. Or again, have I been hacked?

Answer:Zone Alarm Pop-up

I do not know for sure you have been hacked but I would not allow it. Obviously it is not a connection you were making so deny it.

Hey folks,
I've never seen this before. Upon the advice of one of our own malware experts, I was advised to use a different firewall than the default windows one. I was so unlucky as to choose Zone Alarm free 9. This application has done nothing but reeked havoc on my applications including screen reading apps I need just to get around the computer since I've been blind all of my life as most of you may know. In fact I can't do anything with internet explorer since ZA throws up an alert and my screen reader can't read it. I tried several ways to get rid of the alerts until I find an accessible firewall that doesn't kill my essentials. I have tried using Win Patrol to delete the file that causes the alerts to pop up, I tried uninstalling ZA completely with Revo Uninstaller first, and now ever since, when uninstalling it, I constantly get the message that one of it's files is missing. I can't delete the program files folder directory since the dang thing is running. How do I get this thing out of my way? MSConfig doesn't even allow it to terminate when unchecking it in the list. any input would be great.

Many thanks,
Chromebuster

Question: zone alarm

i just downloaded zone alarm (free version) and i wondered how you can access the progam list that you allow access to. i also would like to know if you can trace an ip address and find out which program is accesing it. and i have 600k ntl broadband and i wondered what connection you would call it (asdl, cable modem, etc...)
any help would be great thanks a lot.

Answer:zone alarm

ukboy,

If I understand your question correctly the list of programs allowed access to the web will be created as you go online and ZA asks you for permission for each program.

Zone Alarm should open in its Overview window and on the left hand side you should see a reference to Program Control. Clicking on that produces two options Main and Programs-clicking on Programs shows the actual list of authorised programs. It indicates whether a program already has permission by a green tick, if you have told the program to ask for permission each time there will be a blue question mark and if you permanently refuse access, there will be a red X.

Personally, I make most programs seek permission every time. If you have a lot of autoupdating programs this will be a nuisance so it's your choice. Sorry I can't help with the rest of your query.

What does this thing do? All I have is Norton and I RARELY get a virus. My friend has Norton, Mcafee and Zone Alarm and hes constantly getting viruses..hes got his computerd rigged like Fort Knox. Should I have it or is it not that big of a deal?

Answer:What does Zone Alarm do?

i have a feeling your friend is very irresponsible when it comes to internet usage. 99.9% of the time, a virus infects a computer because the user let it in, eg open an attachment, downloaded stuff s/he shouldn't have downloaded, etc.

now for zonealarm. zonealarm is a free firewall software that basically protects your computer from unwanted intruders. think about your computer as a house. when you're computer is connected straight online (ie, it's computer -> modem -> internet, without a firewall or router), your "house" is essentially wide open. windows are open and front door unlocked. all anyone needs to get into your "house" is your "street address" (aka ip address). with the firewall such as zonealarm, it closes and locks your windows and locks all your doors. the only time it's unlocked is if you want it to, like when you check your mail or go do some shopping. it can also keep programs from accessing the internet. so the "15 year old son" (aka program) in your "house" won't be able to get out into the "street" (aka internet) and cause problems.

now, a software firewall is pretty much unnecessary unless you are connected directly to broadband internet (ie, without a router). If you have a router, the router acts as a natural hardware firewall. The only other reason to get a software firewall, then, is to keep potential trojan horses from accessing the internet and compromi... Read more

I have just finished an extensive spyware removal process with the help of chaslang on the spyware forum. My computer is now free of spyware, but I think there are some residual effects, and chaslang suggested I try the software forum. One of the things I did was install Zone Alarm. But I cannot get on the internet unless I shut down ZA. I am pretty sure I have it configured correctly. I have attached a screenshot of the program control page.

ZA is blocking outgoings to 10.0.0.2 and 192.168.254.98. I don't know what they are. It is blocking incoming from 192.168.1.100 which is my other computer. I have that IP address set as trusted on the Firewall page. Actually, I have the range from 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.120 set as trusted. I have attached a screen shot of that page also.

I was told that I should not run ZA and Windows Firewall at the same time. The problem is that I cannot disable Windows Firewall. The ON and OFF buttons are grayed out. At the top it says, "For your security, some settings are controlled by Group Policy". Well, I'm not part of a group. I have my own little home network with a Linksys 2.4Ghz 802.11b wireless router. My computer is a Dell Latitude D600 laptop, Pentium M 1.6 Ghz, 384 MB of RAM. I'm running Windows XP-SP2. My other computer is a Pentium 2 running Windows 98 SE. That one seems fine. Hi Guys. Can anyone tell me if it's better to use the Zone Alarm firewall (free version)or Windows XP's own firewall. If it's Windows how do I enable it.

Answer:Zone Alarm?

xp firewall only guards one way, there are plenty of good firewall software programs, Like Sygate personal firewall home user, zone alarm is OK until you try to un-install it

Question: Zone Alarm again

I'm having trouble with my Zone Alarm firewall. I've been getting the "Page Cannot Be Diplayed" error a lot. My son plays NeverWinter Nights on-line. He's made a module there for people to play at ( I don't know what that all is about really ). He says that since I installed the ZA his friends can't get into his module. When he tries to shut down the firewall he gets a dialog box that says that even if ZA is shut down, TruVector Monitor will still be in place, that there are other processes using it. I saw the posts below about ZA. I wondering if I should uninstall the ZA and try something different. *sigh* Anybody have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Zone Alarm again

I do not use Zone alarm, but I have heard nothing but problems about it lately. I uninstalled it from my wife's uncles computer because he was having problems using aol suddenly once he updated it.

Question: Zone Alarm

I came into the Zone Alarm scenario about six months ago with Version 45.594.00 which was a joy to use. However subsequent versions drove me up the wall,so much so that i gave the whole idea up and changed to something else.
Just recently i have revisited with Version 55.062.004.What joy it's a real cracker.
Lets hope Zone Labs stick to this version and just issue updates and not whole new versions.
If there is anybody from Zone Labs present please note and i would be happy to renew my subscripton.

If there is anybody from Zone Labs present please note and i would be happy to renew my subscripton. Since I was also in your shoes about the ZA six months ago, I am happy to hear there are improvements.I recommend free programs, though. Is the free one improved enough to warrent inclusion on a winXpsp2 machine and not cause fits?

Question: Zone Alarm Pro 5

I have installed ZA Pro 5 paid version. Frustration. Trying to read the overview and the items that have been blocked as it indicates that I can and nothing happens when I click on the icon or the dialogue. Can't read any of the statistics.
It has stopped many items but I can't read them from this site?????

Also a problem in setting a site/host in the trusted zone. I click on add type in the name of the site, type in description click ok and Apply right from the beginning was in the grey.

Windows xp firewall disenabled, pentium 4, 512 , mobile processor, 1.9 ghz.

does anyone have any ideas???? have 30 days to return this, likely will. have disenabled pop up blocker.
I hope to hear from experienced members. Thankyou

Answer:Zone Alarm Pro 5

My initial thought goes back to my initial installation of ZA.I carefully and patiently read the 135 page manual.Implemented (to the best of my abilities) the information.Met with mixed results.Hung in there for over 30 days with it. (free edition, naturally enough for me) Finally said (and to myself, initially.... pride, ya' know) Enough is enough.Heard (read) other comments to the effect that the new ZA version & winXP (expecially SP2) might be ah, somewhat problematic.Installed Sygate (free) and applied what I'd learned about firewalls in generalduring my ZA experiments in trial & error (especially error, unfortunately).Seem to have met with an additional degree of success. That's my story & I'm stickin' to it.Please forgive me if I give any wrong impressions about ZA.I admire any company that produces a needed software program.Gives it away, for the greater good of the greater amount of people.Online.

Question: Thanks Zone Alarm

Just checked my Zone Alarm log. Something I don't do often enough. 30 attempts to access my computer in 2 hours on the web, today. Thats an average of 1 every 4 minutes. 1 was rated as high risk. Thanks Zone Alarm

I want to get Zone Alarm but i'm afraid it might slow down my system. Will it?

Windows XP Professional
256 RAM
Pentium 3 996 MHz

Only have Norton, AIM and MSN running in the backround at all times. Thanks

Answer:How much RAM does Zone Alarm take up?

ZA has never slowed my box down. What really did slow it down was Norton!!

Question: Zone Alarm

I am using the free edition of Zone Alarm with my Windows 98Se and since installing their last update my shut down is very slow. It takes several minutes to shut down but if I close Zone Alarm prior to doing my shut down it closes promptly. Can you recommend another free firewall?
