Looking for reasonable PC with extras around £400

Question: Looking for reasonable PC with extras around £400

Do you think it`s possible? My friends mother is asking me if i can get a PC with the usual extras (ie modem, keyboard, mouse, speakers etc) with reasonably good graphics, cd re-writer, dvd rom, 17" monitor & printer....I`ve been looking but I don`t seem to get [email protected] the moment I`m trying to build another very basic computer for my wifes friend....(she only wants to pay 150---no monitor) & that`s been hard enough.Thank you in advance for any feedback

Preferred Solution: Looking for reasonable PC with extras around £400

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,

I'm currently looking into buying a new server for the company I'm interning at. The issue is I'm somewhat clueless about IT in general, so I'm concerned an offer I've received for a Dell PowerEdge T430 server which I've pasted below is a rip off. The price I've been quoted is $4020,10.

Here are the specs:
"Server Dell PowerEdge T430 8B, (1)*Intel Xeon E5-2630v4 Processor (2.2GHz, 10C, 25MB, 8.0GT/s QPI, 85W), 32GB (2x16GB) 2400MHz RDIMM, PERC H330, DVD+/-RW, (2)*1TB SATA 6Gbps 7.2k 3.5" HD Hot Plug (up to 8x3.5"HDD), Broadcom 5720 GbE Dual Port on board, IDRAC8 Ent., (2)*750W, No Rails, 3y NBD"

Any advice would be very much appreciated!

Also if it helps the initial uses of the server would be secure data storage, hosting an email service for 12 staff members, and if possible setting up a hybrid disaster recovery solution, for instance linking the service to a cloud based service like Microsoft Azure.

If anyone out there can suggest a cheaper and viable alternative that would be ace!

Best regards,

Good Afternoon, Gentlemen,
I am sorely, at least I think so, of the sound advice that you hand out, on a very regular basis.
I have had an Acer Aspire One 722-C62kk with an 11.6” screen and 4GB for a couple of years. And it has done – and is doing – the job I wanted it to do; namely to take on holidays with us so we can keep in touch with friends whilst on the holiday. But we are just back from 2 weeks in Lanzarote and I must admit that I have found it s-l-o-w. I do not know anything about chips and, therefore, would be very grateful if someone could recommend a notebook with a faster chip in it. This is where I will probably annoy some of you: I would like one that is 5 to 10 times faster!! Also I am not looking for a new notebook – these all seem to come with Windows 10 which I do not like – but a second hand one with Windows 7 preferably 64Bit Home Premium or similar with USB 3.0 port(s). I am quite willing to go to £100, but for a good one am willing to stretch up to £200. If a company that trades in second hand notebooks has options and any of you know a reasonably reliable one that would also be helpful.
I know I am being picky, but at my time of life I am getting more and more specific and that is why I am asking you gentlemen.
Any and all – no matter how rude – replies will be very gratefully received.

Hey all,

I've been running my system under full load for twenty minutes.

I've got RMClock, CPU-Z and ATITool open to monitor, and I'm also using Orthos to stress my RAM and my CPU.

LeadTek 7950GT TDH 256MB -- 90 degrees
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 2.4GHz -- 48 degrees [won't let me overclock yet, it's running at stock speeds with a Zalman heatsink].
Transcend 1066 2 x 1GB -- 64 degrees

These temperatures seem all right for twenty minutes of full load? I'm scrambling to find a VGA heatsink at a local store, but I've been told a graphics card of this power can safely handle temperatures of up to 100 degrees.

Question: Reasonable prices?

What would be a reasonable price to "reimage" a machine?
(ie wipe off all the trojans/adware/spyware)

Reimage including databackup and a reinstall of the os and drivers.

Data backup being a loose sense of the term and including just music, photos, documents, email, and favorites, and just to be nice also throwing on a few apps that are essential...itunes, aim, firefox, spybot, antivirus of choice.

I know geek squad's prices...and they are...about on par I'd say for the amount of time it takes to do all of the above but what do you guys think?

I keep hearing people who have fairly modern PC's (although perhaps lacking a good graphics card) talking about buying a PS3. I would like to tell them that they should really consider spending $200 to $250 for a new video card and using their PC to play games thereby saving themselves the much larger cost of a PS3.

Is this reasonable advice? If they were to upgrade an Intel P4 (3.2 MHz with adequate memory, hard drive, sound quality, etc.) by buying a fairly good quality video card, would that put the machine into a comparable quality such that it would run most games available for the PC such that it would compare fairly well to those same games running on the PS3?

It doesn't have to be extremely high quality. I'd just like to know if it would be reasonably accurate to say that upgrading a fairly modern PC (with a P4 CPU - not a Celeron) with a good quality video card would put it into roughly the same level of performance for playing games as the PS3.

edit: maybe there are just rear stacking ports? The fronts must just be sfp 1 GbE?

A long tale of woe that ends with some questions. Please bare with me in the background explanation.

For over a year I've been having occasional flurries of crashes, hangs and (rarely) BSODs. Months would go by with no problem, then dozens of crashes or hangs in a week. The event logs and rare dumps have not been helpful. People here said it sounded like hardware problem, but no diagnostics I ran could find a problem.

I took it to a pc repair shop which could find no hardware problem (and of course it would not crash or hang for them). The suggested (as did people on this forum) that it probably was ZoneAlarm Internet Security. They installed the Kaspersky Internet Security product (for a fee, of course) and said that should fix the problems. 2 days later it froze 3 times and did automatic reboots 5 times.

I took it back. It still wouldn't crash or hang for them. They said Windows probably needed to be reinstalled - that my update from Win7 Home to Pro corrupted something. Rather than mess up the installation again I asked them to do it (for a fee, of course).

During their attempts to reinstall Windows it started crashing for them. They succeeded on their 3rd attempt, ran some more tests, checked the configuration, and found problems with the ram. They said ram I had was incompatible with the mother board and buggy, but the problems could not be detected by the diagnostics. They also said they had to reinstall Windows a 4th time because the 3rd reinstallation ... Read more

Answer:Reasonable explanation for crashes?

OCZ is high quality, but it is also one of the least compatible memories on the market (meaning it works properly with the fewest hardware configurations)
I use it personally and have for years with no complaint. ...and certainly without the problems you describe, though I always verify the motherboard/ram compatibility before I purchase a motherboard.

If the ram is actually bad it can cause any number of seemingly unrelated problems and errors. Since basically everything processes through the ram and it can be only one stick or one specific memory address on a stick that actually causes the problem. It's possible this bad address can go for months without being used until a specific set of circumstances pops up.

This is NOT a serious problem, just more of an annoyance which is intriguing me.
With 4gb ram, a reasonable dual processor and graphics card, one would expect a reasonably good performance whatever the case.
My automatic startup consists of just Avast AV, Java, and Malwarebytes although l also get additional icons on the taskbar for the Network and Sharing Center and Action Center.
I use Firefox as my main browser.
I also use SuperAntiSpyware, CCleaner, and Defraggler reasonably frequently, so l know that my system is clear of any junk, malware, spyware, and that no viruses are present.
I fire the system up in the morning, bring up Firefox and all is fine, and reasonably quick.
Do a fair amount of downloading using the MiPony download manager to access rapidshare files, but with my crap connection, the max download speed seems to hover around the 280kbs mark.
I may also have two FF sessions on the go, as well as the downloading, so whatever l do after that seems to really slow the system down.
I have even run ConvertX at the same time as all of the above and the system came to a near grinding halt.
Now l know that all of the above are processor/ram hungry but surely with my specs the computer should more than cope?
Maybe l'm missing something obvious or my dual processor system just cannot cope with more than two ram hungry programs running at the same time.
Has anyone got any ideas or do l just have to live with it.

I wanted to hear some opinions about the situation in the office I work in.

Recently we changed accounting software and my advice to change to Office 365 was rejected. Still all 15 employees want their emails to be safe and backed up.
Some employees don't delete their emails, so I end up with approximately 10 GB PST-file size per year per user. Of course I split them year by year. The problem is that they want to keep even pst files from 5 or more years ago. Always available. My idea is now, that I make a one time backup copy of recent years and a daily backup of the actual year.
I made some tries already with EaseUS. But I'm not satisfied.
I'd prefer not to schedule it and leave it up to the employee to decide when to make the backup. So, let's say the employee leaves earlier for some reason why leaving the PC on until 7 pm or so? Also a power cut could prevent that scheduled backup entirely from happening.
Here's a list of what I need the backup software to be able to do:

- Start the whole backup process with a double-click on an icon (on the desktop). EaseUS needs more steps incl. always having to set the Shutdown option manually.
- On the destination file storage or NAS I want to overwrite the previous file, not to create version after version. Or even better: Create a new version but delete the old version afterwards. PSTs are really a hard case since you can't really make incremental backups. I also doubt that some employees will understa... Read more

About 2 minutes in total here. Is this a reasonable graphics card?

ATI RADEON 9800 Pro 256Mb AGP

It will be used with a Gigabyte 8VM800PMD-775 mobo

on a 2.8ghz celeron with 1gb Ram, 200gb hdd

Answer:Is this a reasonable graphics card?

How much does it cost?
I recommend a 6600GT video card. It should costly almost the same, and you get a lot more performance.

The two bad things are these:

a) You must have a good, quality 300-350 power supply, from a good, well-known manufacturer, with at least 20 A on the 12V rail, in order to have a stable computer.

b) The performance of a 9800 PRO or a 6600GT will be limited by your current CPU (is it a Celeron D or a Celeron?).

Good luck!

I subscribe to Norton 360 but have got the trojan Antivirus XP 2008 with its annoying porn popups and messages. Via the chat facility, Norton advisors have removed part of the problem remotely but the popups have come back and other irritations, like slow running remain. They have now escalated my call to their virus specialist and want to charge me 70 for a detailed consultation plus check of the PC and clean up. Am I being reasonable thinking that Norton 360 should have stopped the trojan in the first place and it's a bit much having to pay them to clean up. The adviser was quite aggressive saying that I should have this done straight away otherwise I might spread the virus on the internet and my ISP will cut me off.I'd be grateful for views on Norton's stance.

I have four rather old HDDs that are either not recognized by the system or that cause computer shut down when connected.

Is it reasonable to attempt to repair these? It is my understanding that the majority of all HDD failures are electrical and not mechanical. If this is true, then I would conclude that most problems are caused by the replaceable control board on the HD.

BTW I have a circuit board on order to attempt the repair of a 250GByte Seagate HD (a Barracuda 7200.10).

This HD seems to be an ideal candidate for home repair because it immediately shuts down the computer when power is applied. There is a direct short from the HDs' 5 volt input pin to ground. That short circuit exists even when the board is removed from the HD.

Obtaining an exact replacement seems to be the trick. I 'think' I have done that.

Answer:Is It Reasonable/Sensible to Attempt to Repair a HDD

It's not as simple as replacing the PCB on most modern drives, you may also have to move the original ROM chip or firmware that contains the specific drive parameters to the new PCB. Unlike older drives, new drives are all slightly different and unique. With the 7200.10 a PCB swap may work because its an older drive.

A four month old mid-range factory built computer.Functions exactly as it should, but ignoring the sound advice "If it aint broke don't fix it" i would like it to sound less like a collection of busy fans, which it has!I am prepared to spend some more and replace the PSU, CPU's fan and even the case fan.The video card fan seems blameless, stalling for one moment doesn't change the rushing noise. The PSU is probably the most justifiable replacement. It is a bog standard ATX of 300w.I wonder if click here will do the trick. (5th down the list) the 435W job)? The case fan is a standard affair drawing warm air and pushing it out of the back. It is possibly an 8cm fan (approx 7cm between screws) and draws its power from the mobo.Probably not contributing much windrush but suggestions welcome? The CPU fan sits naked on a sort of 4 legged gantry over a very elaborate dome of fine fins and Intel trade mark. Question: extras

Okay I had Microsoft scan my Asus laptop to upgrade to W8 and one thing that came up was that I need to pay extra on top of the upgrade cost to download a new Media Centre. I can't find what the media centre download would cost? Any ideas thanks.

Also I have Office 2010 is that compatiable or do I need to purchace an upgrade there as well?

I run Windows 7 premium 64 bit.

Thanks for any info.

I wasn't aware that the new media center is required. I knew they were charging for it, but there are plenty of freeware alternatives that can get the job done just as well.

Office 2010 is compatible with Windows 8. Generally, although not in all situations, programs that were Windows 7 compatible should be Windows 8 compatible.

I have a very annoying issue wherein the small rubber V-shaped or triangular pegs attached to the base of the extended battery of my U150 have come off; so now the laptop wobbles when I type. I've called the service center (Philippines not India), they were very nice and courteous, but had no replacement part number so they cannot replace the part even if I am under warranty! How ridiculous is that?!?!  It would be so easy to mail me a pair of pegs and I would simply superglue it on the base.  What they offered is even more absurd!  They want me to give them a $90+ deposit to send them my whole battery pack (that is working just fine) which they are willing to replace in order to get the new legs on it.  We're talking about a pair of pegs worth no more that 25-US-cents!!!  Does anyone have any solutions? Or is there some other mystical resource to get these rubber pegs replaced? This issue has been going on for two months, and Lenovo has not replied, emailed, nor called as promised by the customer service receptionist who said they would refer my claim to Lenovo.

I am trying to find a touchscreen monitor that is actually priced reasonably. It needs to be between 10 and 12 inches and the pixel resolution needs to be at least 1024x768.

I can't find any for a fair price. They make all kinds of good ones though... for $250 and up! They can't be THAT expensive since you can buy android tablets for like $150. Even mouser doesn't carry touchscreen LCD panels anymore that have a greater resolution than 640x480.

I have managed to find ONE that has a somewhat reasonable price but it's sold by a shady looking seller. Half of the reviewers didn't receive a working unit and the other half did.

I call ******** on these prices. They don't cost that much to produce. Something like that shouldn't cost more than $100. I'm not willing to spend more than $150 on a touchscreen monitor unless the resolution is 1280x720 or greater and even then I'm not spending more than 175-200.

So where is a place you can buy these from that are priced reasonably? If there are none, can I buy a $100-$150 android tablet just for the LCD panel, take it apart and somehow re wire everything up for use with a PC?

That particular board is certainly more than you need for most purposes and would be a waste of money for a typical installation. But you may need each and every one of its features. I don't know.

I have Comcast cable. The Motorola Surfboard modem is connected to my desktop via Ethernet cable. I occasionally have to work with friend's laptops, and need to connect to the Web wirelessly, so am considering getting a wireless router. Trouble is, I can't find much info on the Web that tells me what I need, and prices go from $25 to $1200. I figure I only need something very simple, since I have no home network or multiple computers throughout the house.

So, can anyone recommend a good and relatively inexpensive router? Review in PC World liked the Belkin N, but have no idea if that's suitable or overkill or what.

Ok, I am basically new here and have a system I built in the middle of 2007. I am trying to see if it is viable to upgrade any of the components to make it a little more competitive for the rest of this year, but I don't know that there is much I can do with it without buying multiple components.

I have:

MSI AM2 Athlon 64/X2, PC6400 mem. capable motherboard
4600+ Athlon X2
NVIDIA 9600GT 512mb
2 gb PC6400 DDR2

I am currently running 64 bit Windows 7, and despite 2gb of memory it runs well.

Basically, I don't know if there is much that can be done with this. It's kind of stuck where it is. I could get a little faster dual core X2 processor, but I don't know that it would make much of a difference. Obviously a quad core CPU would require a new motherboard and CPU, so might as well do that with a whole new computer build. I could upgrade to 4gb of dual channel memory, but I don't know that games/programs would utilize it enough to be worth it. Video card wise, I have a 19" 1280 x 1024 monitor, so I whether or not a better video card would get a huge difference in framerate at that resolution I'm not sure.

I am primarily looking at this in regards to games like Bioshock 2, etc. coming out this year. I would just like to run those newer games a little better for this year until I anticipate building a new system in 2011. I have heard a lot of people say that 4gb of memory isn't totally used by most applications yet. I have heard that un... Read more

My nephew suggested recently that I buy some extra memory for my Dell Dimensiion 8250 computer, which is a couple of years old. Knowing that I have Rambus RD-RAM, he searched the Net and told me RD-RAM was both harder to find and more expensive than he expected.

He went to PrimeWatch and found only two websites which had RD-RAM available. Then he went to eBay and told me I could pay $400 for 1G of CD1066 RD-RAM or $256 for 1G of PC 800 RD-RAM.

I have two slots of 256 RD-RAM -- PC 1066, unless I'm mistaken -- which means I have two open slots. My nephew told me I could fill the two open slots with 512 PC 1066, which would give me 1.5 G total. Or, he said, my PC could hold up to 2 G of PC 800 RD-RAM. (All of this terminology is new to me, but my nephew appears to understand it quite well.)

I remember hearing a while back that the price of memory was dropping rapidly, but my nephew told me that seems to have changed. Is it possible that I could find better prices for RD-RAM than those shown on eBay?

Currently I am unemployed and so when I found out that my PC broke (this is a friend's) I was devastated to realize that Windows XP (Pro or HE) both range around $100 for the standard full edition. I am currently running it off of Bart PE but that isn't much help because I can't even view pics or access the internet. My other friend told me however that you can get Windows XP as cheap as $70 for the stripped down, "No Manual, No Colorful Box," edition. Problem is... I can't find this mythical store/site. My wireless router does not seem to be working for Internet connectivty despite many reboots. It's (Netgear fm114p) been in use for less about 10 months. The only thing I can think of is I had some wiring work done to an electrical outlet. Since then, it started requiring power reboots during the day (due to losing a signal); then within the week (yesterday), the lights are not working correctly.

Answer:How to get the 'Extras' in settings?

Try hard rest again or roll back and try again. It should be under settings and if not then this is a update/preview glitch.
But now 10149 is out maybe it comes back if you install this update.

1) Tinker (a game I think...)
2) Tinker-related sounds/sound scheme?
3) New dreamscene content pack (#4 I believe).

Go get them while they're fresh! (oh wait...they are ultimate extras...they are 8 months stale already...)
update: loves to disappoint: dream scenes are of horrid quality, sound scheme is again useless. tinker looks promising, though the controls are a bit awkward (only up arrow lets you move a step while all other arrows just rotate)

It is too heavy to run bitdefender total security 2016 along with extra security software.
So what's better: BD on its own, or Windows Defender + Malwarebytes anti-ransomware + Spyshelter free?
That freebie combo runs pretty smoothly for me.
In either case, I will be running MBAE, which works well with most security softs.
WIndows 10 pro x64 stable build.

Answer:Bitdefender alone vs WD with extras

I would say that Windows Defender (10 version) + MalwareBytes Anti-Malware (Not ransomeware) + SpyShelter is better than BitDefender. For me, BitDefender has excellent signatures, but as a security suite it's buggy as all get out.

Pulling my hair out here...

I just got a new monitor, and while installing that accidentally uninstalled the network card. Whoops. Talked to tech support and they said I had to do a reinstall of Windows to get it back, pretty much. So I did, checking "keep files". All went well, until I tried to get into my files. I used to share this computer with others so all of my files under "My Documents" were unshareable under the old system - I'm assuming that's why, when I tried to get to *my* user data, it kept telling me no. After some searching, I found a webpage telling me to reboot in safe mode, go into the folder properties, and reset the owner of those files to my new profile. I did, and everything was restored - except that the files in My Pictures and My Music are all still unaccessible. I can get to them, I can view them, the properties show that they have sizes which seem reasonable for full, normal files - but when I open any of my photos I get nothing - in the Windows Picture and Fax viewer, for instance, I get "no preview available". I've tried renaming the files, moving them, copying them, e-mailing them - nothing. The music files are the same - look normal, but when I try and play them they open up as a 0 second music file. Name and info is available, but no music.

In short: any help vastly appreciated. This is the second time in two years I've lost my vacation photos, last year my camera got stolen Maybe I need to ... Read more

Hi, I've planned to buy  a  good LTE WWAN adapter for my T440 recently, but going though many negative opinions on officially supported EM7345  I think it's point less to spend many on it. I really like EM7455 but I am sure I will fall into the problem with "unsupported WWAN card ..."  which I know I can work around, but would prefer a clean solution instead. Is there any good alternative to EM7345 for T440 to get it working out of the box? Ideal would be official BIOS with EM7455 enabled in BIOS whitelist, which I believe is unlikely.

Hi guys!!

Okay, my camcorder is a Panasonic GS-150 (I bought it 1 year ago and still not for sure if that was a good purchase or not, but oh well i'm stuck with it now) and I mostly use it to make movies w/friends and family. I write screenplays and direct them, act in them, what not and I'm hoping to finally upgrade to a better video editing software besides Windows Movie Maker. Now, I have no big complaints about WMM, its been very kind to me and user friendly, but I've way over-used all the transitions and video effects they have to offer. Also, my ideal software would have the ability to put a clip on top of a clip. I don't even know if that's possible, but it sounds like a neat idea to me sense I don't have a green screen handy! I am just a meager wanna-be M. Night Shyamalan here My budget is minimal and I'm hoping not to exceed $80.

I need to replace a TP-Link N600 router that is constantly dropping G-wifi. The N seems stable enough but TP-Link customer disservice is working at it's peak. Totally hopeless. I have been trying to get them to to take it back for warranty-repairs and all they keep telling me to do is update the firmware.

I had done that before I even contacted them the first time. I am now using some of their Beta firmware and still no change. I have had it with TP-Link.

So, looking for 4 x Gigabit LAN, G and N wifi at 450 to 600 Gb. An AC-wifi might be nice, but when N is working right, it does all I need. I still need G for my windows phone. {sigh}

I have just tried Zyxel, Edimax and Netgear. Returned them all as the TP-Link when running right had much better power output on both G and N ate distances. Linksys, not even slightly interested in, so what's left? If a Buffalo, I'd want a non-DD-Wrt version. DD-Wrt is great but too time consuming to configure.

Anyone with personal experience of a router they love that doesn't cost a $100+, care to chime in here.

Answer:Decent Router at reasonable price? NOT TP-Link

I got a little-known Router from Western Digital [yeah, the hard drive company] over a year and a half ago, cost $60. When I first got it I'd have to turn the Wi-Fi off [switch on the front] about once a week to re-establish it. After about a month I got a firmware update for it and haven't had a problem since. It's been running 24/7 since 9/11 but we had a transformer blow down the road that day and were without power 6AM until about 7PM that day. Didn't help to also have 10" of snow.

I've set up D-Link and Netgear Routers and haven't had call-backs on them yet.

I essentially skipped Vista completely (bought it with the hardware, installed it, then discarded it) and started with the 7000 beta. Am currently toying with 7077 on a new, 3-week-old monster machine that needs to shift into productive use very soon.

Moving the "Documents and Settings" folder was easy back in XP days. It appears to be a lot more complicated now. However, after a bit of reading, I've come up with the following:
Clean install (in this case, 7077 x64) as user 'username'
Enable 'Administrator' account
Log out of 'username' and log into 'Administrator'
Continue with computer setup using the 'Administrator' account
Delete both the account and files for 'username'
Hack the registry to alter the location for new user accounts
-- [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList]
-- Replace '%SystemDrive%\Users' with 'D:\Users' for the 'ProfilesDirectory' key
Create a new account for 'username' with admin privileges which appears as D:\Users\username\...
Log out of the 'Administrator' account (leaving it active and located in the C:\Users folder)
Log into the new 'username' admin account and go about business as usual.
(There will be four additional non-admin accounts created on this machine -- all of them located in the D:\Users folder.)
My question is: Does this seem a valid approach to separating the Users folder from the system drive? Or, am I setting myself up for problems?

Answer:Moving \Users folder ... Is this a reasonable approach?

Answer:possible malware infection and extras!

Hello diesellady80, Sorry for the delay. We have many logs backed up. I understand that you need help in order to get rid of the malware that is present on your system - But you need to help us first. I notice that you never scanned with an Antivirus previously before starting this thread - because you don't even have an Antivirus installed :!: This is somewhat suicidal in today's digital world. That's why I want you to install one first!! Please install Avira Antivirus: is a free Antivirus :!: Perform a full scan with Avira and let it delete everything it is finding. Then reboot. After reboot, open your Avira and select "reports".There double click the report from the Full scan you have done. Click the "Report File" button and copy and paste this report in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log. Then we'll start from there, because it really makes no sense otherwise that we clean this up manually if an Antivirus scan is not presen. It should be able to deal with most and prevent further reinfection.

Answer:Extras+info app not updating

If it keeps cycling as it does for me:
You have two options
1) sysapp pusher and choose the old store (I used this)
2) Go to this link and scan the QR Code
Your going to have down load a QR scanner (I checked QR Reader) from the old store and wait for edge to load the page or go to settings once you scan the qr code, tap the edit button, click on the ie icon and choose the old store.
The extras+info app doesn't install at all via the new store.... it keeps cycling well for me anyway.

Brand new joining here tonight, but have enjoyed reading through entries in the past.
What a great place
I am just trying to get friends PC working. History of it just not starting.
CPU Fan does start up, with attempt to start CD player, and red lights on.
Tried another CPU, this at least got me into safe mode before turning itself off.
SO think I need a new CPU. However, have noticed some bulging on mobo connectors, so feel it is safer to replace mobo too.
Has anyone got any advice as to what to replace with (only uses PC for photos/ word docs etc, no gaming). Hopeing to keep original casing with power supply & modem etc (unless mobo comes with onboard modem) to keep costs down to minimum.
Present mobo is MS-6334, with intel P3 750 CPU
Any help would really be appreciated.
Many thanks

Answer:Can I buy a new mobo & CPU to go with old case & extras?

What you need is a socket 370 MoBo. I dont know what form factor you need you will have to do some research if you don,t know. It is a older MoBo, so you should be able to get a pretty decent one for around $50.
Check out or ebay, has pretty good prices too but I have never ordered from them

In my view, it remains one of the single best web development applications currently available and is suitable for beginners right through to vast projects of enormous complexity.Like most commercial web designers I have and use all the major web authoring tools and have done for many years and I can say without doubt that FrontPage, especially the current version 2003, can cut a rug with the best of them and leave most of them standing in many areas. Now, since there have been quite a few mentions of this program recently, I thought it may help a few of its users to know of just a few of the many add-in components you can get, many of them offered freely and many that work from version 2000 up to 2003.Take a look at this site: click hereClick on the Add-Ins link and spend a few happy hours being downright amazed at all the little tools people have coded to enhance FrontPage. From point and click code snippet/applet insertion and special effects through to additional menu items on right click and the File menu, or how about a Space Replacer add-in that replaces spaces in file and folder names with an underscore character ?The Microsoft site has many add-ins available but the excellent Jimco site deserves serious attention (and an award). It is packed with some really ni... Read more

Answer:FrontPage extras - read all about it... ;o)

don't talk to me about FrontPage add-ins, I'm the add-in king. I have a special folder on my drive for nothing but FP add-ins, I love 'em.I probably use FP 2003 more than any other of the mainstream design applications. That isn't to say I forsake DreamWeaver entirely - I've used it for so long I couldn't part company now - but it's not dusted off as often as it used to be since FP 2003 came on the scene. Adobe software isn't my forte - I stick to FP, DreamWeaver, and the excellent and somewhat addictive NetObjects Fusion for pretty well everything. These applications are tools - they earn me a substantial part of my income - but if I'm honest with myself I can't deny that I have a distinct bias towards FP 2003. It's just so versatile, and those add-ins.............When you work with software on a daily basis you develop funny little affections, and sometimes they're difficult to justify - I love Ulead PhotImpact for image editing for instance - but in the case of FP there's no such problem - it can hold its own (and more) against anything on the market.

Hi there, sorry to bug all you guys, but I've got a question I was hoping you could help me with.
Two weeks ago I had a crcdisk.sys error which resulted in the need for a clean format. Geek squad installed windows 7 and it works fine. I have a G50V asus laptop 64-bit. Due to the clean format, I lost all of the extra functionality, such as the turbo mode, enhanced power management, and power display on the keyboard. The problem is the asus website offers many downloads but I don't know what to download in order to restore what I want to use. Unfortunately also, the driver disk the laptop came with will only work with vista. I would appreciate any help you guys can give me, and I'd be more than happy to supply any other necessary information needed.

Answer:Restoring Asus Extras

Okay, first question, I would state (and many others)......

check your device manager.

hit the windows key + R. at that prompt type in:

devmgmt.msc (press enter)

Do you have any yellow ?'s?

Also, welcome to MajorGeeks. Someone here hopefully, will get your issues fixed.

I built my computer, and apparently I thought it could handle more than it was able to... I was doing Windows Update for the Extras (mainly Dreamscene and Texas Hold 'Em) , already had the other stuff updated, and simultaneously running my motherboard drivers installation disk and my video drivers installation disk while downloading some other applications and woe and behold, I got the infamous Blue Screen 'o' Death... now, all my extras installed correctly except Dreamscene and Texas Hold 'Em (the main two I wanted....). In the Windows Update it says they were cancelled and Update doesn't allow me to redownload/reinstall the two extras I want.

Any ideas?

I was recently unfortunate enough to find Security Suite on my PC.I followed the instructions on the forums on how to remove it (including downloading and running TDSS Killer), but it has clearly brought along a friend that is not so keen on going away:My google searches still often get hijacked (but not to any obviously malicious sites), and System Mechanic now tells me my Antivirus (AVG Free) is inactive, although the program itself tells me otherwise. Ever since getting Security Suite, I have been unable to use IE (that said, I started using Firefox in the interim and probably prefer it anyway). Coupled with this, the computer sometimes slows right down without warning - unless I start up with my broadband connection unplugged. For a brief period, Windows firewall went haywire and blocked everything. I managed to reset that, but nothing else is fixed as yet. Tried running rkill again since removing Security Suite - nothing detected now, though.I have managed to run DDS at last - reports are enclosed. I ran this as an administrator in safe mode; for some reason, if I logged on normally, DDS would not run. I did run GMER, but didn't get a 'save' option. I can run again, if requiredIf anyone can shed a little light on this, I would be eternally grateful.DDS Report------------------------------------------DDS (Ver_10-03-17.01) - NTFSx86 NETWORK Run by Administrator at 21:53:14.04 on 08/09/2010Internet Explorer: 7.0.5730.11Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600... Nero services not needed.....I have researched this a bit, but never found good advice on these two services. I do not use any Nero photo service or monitoring, so I am pretty sure these two memory hogs are not needed. Can someone here tell me if that is true, and how can I safely remove them so they do not start up every time. I did not include these functions when I installed the program, and tried to change set up of Nero, but still no luck, they always remain. It is a waste of good memory, I think.

Answer:nero 7 extras services

Hi wheresjerry,

If you want the definitive answer for yourself, you could set the services to manual for a few days and see if they are called, and started by anything, If they are not started from manual after a week you should then be able to safely disable them permanently.

From what you say they should be safe to disable but it's always worth testing on your system

Background Themes

You can still customize the look in Norton Internet Security 2012 with four different background images for the main UI. Just press one of the following key combinations to choose your favorite:
Shift + 2 = Rays
Shift + 3 = Animals
Shift + 4 = Floral
Shift + 1 = Default background
Crazy Flip

If you like the way the main UI flips to reveal the Performance screen, try this variation: Hold down CTRL + Windows key + ALT and then click Performance on the Main User Interface.

Answer:Fun Extras in Norton 2012

I do wonder how many times would an average NIS user open the UI in 1 year..hmmm......

I recently switched from my old Lumia 900 to a Lumia 822. After completing all the software updates (it didn't even have GDR1) I downloaded preview for developers and bumped to 8.1. Since then I have received official 8.1.
This problem has persisted for a while, and I have gone through much troubleshooting to no avail. When I attempt to open Extras + Info, I get the following error: Extras + Info can't be opened, an app update may be available in the Store. Seeing this, I used SysAppPusher to update it. However, it always stops installing and directs me to try again. I have also tried sideloading the app through the SD Card, but to no avail.
Any ideas?

Hi everyone. I need help! I just bought a Lenovo z400 non-touch screen laptop with two videos card: Intel hd 4000 and NVidia 635M. Im trying to use two extras monitors (laptop screen + two extras monitors), but, when i connect one monitor on VGA plug, the second monitor wich is pugled in HDMI stops working. Also, if the VGA is connected, when i plug the second monitor on Hdmi, the VGA stops working. I also have a Dell latitude, with similar video config: Intel hd4000 and Nvidia NVS 5200M, that i used to work with two extras monitors without any problems. Just plug one monitor on VGA and another in Hdmi and the Windows automatically detects them. Is that possible to use two extras monitors in z400? I have installed all the updated drivers, but still with the same problem: when i plug a monitor in HDMI, the monitor pluged in VGA stops working. Im using Windows 8.0. Thanks in advanced!! Fernando Cartaxo

My Computer recently broke down to an irreparable level, this could not have come at a worse time since I will be cash strapped for the next 6 or so months. Though I have found an AMD Athlon 3800+ X2 system for sale for only $125AUD. Pretty much a barebones system with XP SP2, I can swap my hard drives and Graphics card to this computer.

The question I'm wondering is, due to my non-experience with AMD, I'm not sure how it will handle compared to my other ancient system.

Main uses for the computer were: Browsing, Photo-editing, Occasional Video-Editing and some light Gaming(Crysis/COD/Oblivion, only with settings set to medium and not planning to purchase any more graphic intensive games) Not sure if this computer will handle them.

Oh and incase this post doesn't already show the specs for my last computer, the basics were.

Pentium D 2.8GHz Processor
320GB Hard Drive
160GB OS Hard Drive
250 Watt PSU (Yes I know, very bad considering the video card)
Asus ATI Radeon 4670

Answer:Reasonable cheap upgrade for fried Pentium D system?

Sure, it'd work fine; you'll need to reformat though.

Hi all,
I am on dial up connection now, i pay $20 a month for unlimited use to another internet provider on top of my normal Telstra bill and its been ok as far as $$ & speed for what i have been using it for, but my new computor will have a DVD & CD in it and i would like to be able to sometimes download movies and songs with it and the dialup i think will be far to slow for that type of use.
Its not only that, but when i use the internet on the same line as phone calls, i am missing a lot of calls and others in the house are getting pretty irrritated with me being always on the net.
I am a bit restricted as far as money goes because i am on a diability pension,
so i am looking for a reasonable priced provider that will suit my needs without going to overboard with the prices and will keep the phone clear for all other normal phone calls.
I have been looking at a few differant deals but i see that if you go over a certain amount of m'bytes they get stuck into you for excess, which looks like a bit of a trap to me.
I would even be happy with normal dialup speeds during the day [ when i can get on it] and downloading stuff at off peak times or during the nights.
Or am i asking for to much for to little?
Thanks in advance for any idea's.

Answer:Any Aussies know of a reasonable priced cable connection provider

Try Optus ADSL I think they have packages that include your phone and some free local calls. I'm not sure about ADSL but with cable when you exceed your limit they don't charge extra they just limit you to dialup speed.

Yes, I have a Window's Vista Toshiba laptop, Service Pack 2.  We have fibre optic service through our local phone company and a router in the house.
I have my browsers set to open to  for the sole purpose of phishing prevention.  If this is not what I think it is, please correct me on this first point.  When I don't have a secure connection, a message pops up saying the connection isn't secure.  I've assumed this was phishing.  Again, is that a correct assumption?  Second, when I have that message appear, often I've disconnected the router and plugged it in later, and for the most part that has 'solved' the connection problems......but, that gets old.  Especially since these issues happen often multiple times a day.
My current security is Microsoft Security Essentials, which I know went obsolete with XP, but is still good with Vista (?).  I also have as a back up, Emisoft Anti-Malware (free) for scanning purposes.  I tried their 'Protection' which is given in the beggining on trial with Security Essentials deleted, but stopped it before it's time trial was up because of how slow it made the computer.  Also, I've tried Malwarebytes Real Time Potection with similar results.  I then used HitmanPro, first on free trial, than after that was over for awhile, I decided to buy into it's annual cost.  HitmanPro, I have found, scare's off the 'phish'er's most of the t... Answer:Phishing trouble concerns. How do I best prevent them within reasonable costs?

I forgot to add something that happened today.
I was trying to scare the 'phisher' away by using HitmanPro as I've done before, and noticed in the screen where PUP's appear a very very brief message saying something about SUN CLOUD UPLOADING.  Of course, it was so brief, and I wasn't really watching closely anyway, so it may have said something else........I'm just telling what I think I saw.  I tried googling that, and come up with zero.
