I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi
Really enjoy my laptop for gaming and it seems to cope with most games, however graphics technology moves on.
I would like to update the nvidia graphics card on my satellite 5100-603. Can anyone recommend a suitable card to upgrade with (for laptop).

Answer:Nvidia 440go graphics card upgrade on Satellite 5100-603

Hi Alison

Many users in this forum ask for the graphic card upgrades possibilities. I have to say you that the upgrade is not possible. The graphic card on the notebook is different as on the desktop pc. This is a little chip which is fixed on the mainboard.
Unfortunately it?s not possible.

i am looking to buy the toshiba satellite p20-521 which comes with a nvidia gforce go 5600 64mb graphics card. I was wondering if i could upgrade the card in the future or if i would have to buy a whole new laptop.

Answer:toshiba satellite p20 graphics upgrade

Laptop's graphics cards are not normally upgradable because they are integrated part of motherboard. Some laptops use mini version of separate graphics cards which are "upgradable" technically, but they are not upgradable in practice because you cannot find any supplier to sell directly to Joe public.

Instruction for Satellite 5100-503 says that max. RAM capacity this notebook can works is 512 MB. This is strange for me. Why I can't upgrade memory in my notebook, this is efficency but 512 MB is too less for me. I use Windows XP Prof. with many programs, that's why I need more memory. Additional distributor of Toshiba notebooks in my country clamis that this model can works with 1GB RAM. I do not really know who has right. Help me, please.

I stil use very old Toshiba A350D. Notebook works fine with Office, internet browsing and other light task.
But last days i notice a problem with wifi connection. Well, the card constantly switches off automatically. I use Intel Wifi ProSET tool and Windows 7 system tools.
Windows 7 indicator shown no avilable connections and ProSET indicator shown wifi disabled and ask for turn on wifi with hardware switcher, when hardware switcher (mechanical slider with LED on front) is in the 'on' position and LED flashes.

When this happens, the wifi card is still detected in the Windows device manager. I reinstalled all drivers, but this didn't fix the problem.
The card can be switched on and off several times per minute, but most often when the card is turned off it is hard to activate it again.

Fn + F8 works well, if WiFi Link works properly himself.

Is there still someone who remembers this model and met with such behavior?

I plan to replace the failing CDRW/DVD-drive in my Toshiba Satellite 5100-503 (european version, it was sold as 5105 in the US and other countries).
The built-in drive is a UJDA730.
As upgrade I consider the highly regarded a Slimline DVD+/-RW drive. Unfortunately, some research on the internet revealed that upgrading a notebook's optical drive is not as straightforward as one might hope. I had no trouble removing my old drive (you only have to remove the keyboard and unscrew two screws), so I consider myself capable of putting in an new drive instead. However, two problems remain:

-mechanical compatibily: The 6500A appears to have a different front bezel layout. Its eject button and LED are in a different position than that of my current drive, so I doubt I will be able to use my old bezel with the other one. In addition, the bezel of my old drive has a recess in the lower right corner (similar to that found on some Fujitsu-Siemens notebooks), which gives room for the volume control of the notebook. So I cannot reuse the old bezel, and the NEC's bezel will probably not allow me to close the drive's tray. I wonder if some Dremel-work on the plastic parts of the NEC drive will allow me to fit it in physically. Has anybody tried that?

-electronical compatibility: notebook drives generally do not have jumpers to change their Master/Slave/cable select configuration. Instead this is set within the firmware, so changing it requires flashing a new firmware, which is not ea... Read more

Answer:Replace my notebook drive in a Toshiba Satellite 5100/5105 - Experience?

Hi,

at first the CD drive in a Satellite 5100 is fixed mounted and only replaceable with the same model! So another modell could work, but as you see the bezel don't fits and perhaps the new drive doesn't fit to 100%! So you will have problems all the way!

What do you think about an external solution via USB or Firewire! This is the better way to upgrade!

Hi,I've got a 3.2 ghz p4 (2GB Ram) Dell and I want to get a decent graphics card so that i can play the odd decent game on it. I was looking at either the:Radeon HD 3850 256MB orNVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT 512MBthey seem to be recommended on a few sites and the price of about 85-100 is what i want to spend. However, i've seen issues relating to my PSU, that suggests my computer might not be up to handling them. is that correct? Are there any issues a 'non gaming' pc like mine might have when getting a good graphics card that i don't know about?any help would be much appreciated. Cheers

Answer:Graphics Card for Dell Dimension 5100

Three questions:-1) Are you sure you have PCIe, and not AGP?2) What make and spec. is your power supply (open case and have a look)?3) What sort of grahics card do you have atm? It might be that the cards you list use a similar amount of juice to your current one.

Answer:Graphics Card for Dell Dimension 5100

you will have to have a look at the psu, there is info on the side of it, you will have probably have to realease it from the case, just 4 screws, be careful not to drop it onto the motherboard. switch power off and and remove plug at the back of it before you start. if it is 300w or 400w it is not enough for a decent graphics card.

My satellite 5100-201 has a HDD of 30G 4200rpm

- will I see a big performance increase while replacing the HDD by a Hitachi 60 Go 2"1/2 7200 RPM/8Mo ?

- is it possible to change myself the hdd and how ?

thanks for support

Answer:5100-201 - HDD upgrade

if you mean 8mb then the answere is yes.
You can remove the hdd and install a new one.
But I must see the Notebook to know where the hdd is installed. (in generall you finde an 6 - 9 cm long pice on the side of youre book. On the ground there should be a few screws. Remove the srews and than(!) remove the pannel.)

I hope that you can understand my English.

Hi,

I have a Toshiba S5100 201 which performed well and the very annoying problem with the Nvidia graphics driver. After much searching on the web, it would appear that a fix to the problem has not been found. If anyone has had better luck than me, please post a message.

When reporting the error to Microsoft an automatic replies states that there are no reported faults, therefore no solution. I searched the Toshiba website and they only have the original driver from 2002.

There are many posts concerning graphics problems with my particular model and several other Toshiba models but no word from Toshiba or Nvidia on the subject. This problem means that I have to shutdown and reboot many times, and often it just packs up without any notice.

Any help would be greatly appreciated - Toshiba and Nvidia are also included in this request.

Ps I have tried a couple of drivers and am currently using GeForce 4 440

Answer:Nvidia graphics driver problem on my Satellite 5100

Hi John

Usually you should always use the Toshiba graphic driver because only these drivers are designed for the notebook usage. The NVIDIA graphic driver you can use on the desktop PC.
Well, I found on the Toshiba download site a display driver update version 28.46. I don?t know if you have tried it but please check it.
Furthermore you can also check other Toshiba notebooks with the same graphic card if there is a latest version of the graphic driver.

But I?m not 100% sure if it?s graphic driver problem. Did you check if the recover procedure can solve this issue? If not, well, I think you should check also this possibility.

Hello !

I have a Toshiba Satellite 5100-201 with 256+128 mb PC2100 Ram.
Now i want to remove the 128mb Ram and replace it with a 512 mb one.
But Toshiba support tells me that 2x256 mb are the maximum for this model.
So it is really impossible to use 512mb modules or is it only "not official recommented" ?

Hope u can help me out, the new memory is already paied and on its way to me..... :-(

greetings,

JJ

Answer:5100-201 Memory upgrade ?

Hi

Well, as far as I know these modules you can use:

PC2100 128MB (PA3126U-1M12)
PC2100 256MB (PA3127U-1M25)

And how you said the unit supports max 512MB (2x256MB). This is information which I found. If you want you can try to put the 512 module. But I don?t think that you unit supports this.

Hi all, I'm Bogdan. Please help. I own an Aspire 5100 which I want to upgrade. CPU, Memory, perhaps HDD. Answer:Aspire 5100 CPU upgrade

Hello.Sorry for the delay in response.I've actually fixed and sold about 5 of these laptops. The most cost effect processor I've found was the TL-60 which you can buy off of ebay for about 5 dollars..The Aspire 5100 and 5515 are good laptops; however, a common thing I see amoung these laptops is that dust collects on the fans and need to be cleaned out ever year. The cleaning can be done with compressed air.Which means that if the laptop turns off after about a minute of use or simply doesn't turn on completely dust on the fan and heatsink grill might be the reason why.Reseating the heatsink might be required too.

As far as I know this unit was delivered with a 40GB HDD.

I have Dell Dimension 5100. Everything is stock, except GPU, Sound Card, and Cooler. I want to upgrade the CPU from Pentium 4 3ghz to Core 2 Duo E8400, but i have read forums and people say that the BIOS is older than E8400, so it wont recognize and accept it. I have A03 BIOS,  its released in 2006, the E8400 in 2008, but in Dell Dimension 5100 product page its says that A03 was last updated in 2011, does that mean it should recognize and accept E8400? I mean, the question is can i upgrade from P4 to C2D E8400 without upgrading the stock motherboard? Logically speaking if A03 was last updated in 2011. it should?

I purchased a T400 (which I LOVE so far) but like a fool, didn't opt for the 5300 3x3 WiFi for $15 more... after some post purchase research, I'd much rather have the extra antennae's for picking up those barely in wifi signals around my house.   Does anyone know if the 5300 card can simply be plugged in to replace the 5100?  It all comes down to whether the 3 antennae's are installed on ALL models, with the connectors ununsed when a laptop comes with the 5100.  Anyone know the answer to this? Regards,-Owen

Hi

Generally the CPU upgrade is not possible because of different connection to the mainboard. I really don?t know the details of your unit but if you have time you can call service in your country and pick up some info.

By the way: in the case that something like that is possible are you able to do this alone?

Am looking for a hardware solution: Pavilion DV7 1270 usUPGRADED TO WIN 10  64bit from WIN 7 64bit My current WIFI Wireless/Bluetooth card is an INTEL WIFI LINK 5100 agn. ( Original card) This is NOT SUPPORTED in Win 10... WIFI  no longer works. There are no solutions offered in HP Web assistance or via INTEL or MICROSOFT. I would simply like to find a compatible(upgrade) card that works in this system  with WIN 10? The card is accessible and replaceable ( in RAM Bay... as i remember) INTEL no longer supports this card (to and through win 10) HP Laptops are notoriously finicky with WIFI card replacements...? Short of adopting a usb dongal WIFI/BLUETOOTH option, I would like to effect an internal upgrade to the original card... seems simple enough? Thank You for whatever guidance you might afford

Answer:after win 10 upgrade, intel wifi link 5100 no longer support...

Hi: You may be able to get the card to work if you fiddle with some of the advanced settings on the advanced tab for the card in the device manager. I have 3 HP business notebooks...one has the Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3965ABG card, one has the Intel Intel WiFi Link 4965AG card, one has the Intel WiFi Link 5300 wireless card. The first two I didn't have to do anything to make them work. The 5300...device is present in the device manager saw wireless networks but would not connect when I clicked connect. I went into the advanced settings tab and I think I enabled WMM and the card works just fine and has so ever since. Try tweaking one of the settings in the advanced settings tab. I wish I remembered exactly which setting I changed that made it connect. I was ticked off, so I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing. Could not understand why two older cards worked perfectly and the newer one wouldn't. Changing the wireless card would be extremely problematic as you are limited to just the cards listed in the service manual and half the time the ones listed in the manual cause the notebook not to boot up until the card is removed. Also, if you can't get the Intel 5100 to work, you can forget any of the others listed working on W10. I am very sure that changing one of those advanced settings will allow the 5100 card to work.

Answer:Differences between Satellite 5100-201 & 5100-603

Hello

I am not technician but I have found info that those units have different graphic card and both can not handle with max RAM.

Satellite 5100-201:
- nVidia GeForce4 440Go 32 MB
- can handle with max 512 MB RAM

Satellite 5100-603:
- nVidia GeForce4 440Go 64 MB
- can handle with max 1024 MB RAM

I am not 100% sure but if you exchange the whole Mb with all hardware components I believe that other peripheral devices should work well but I don?t know how it will work with BIOS. Maybe the DMI must be rewritten.

On this forum there are few guys with very good knowledge and I hope some of them will post here and say more about that.

T410s is a good model, but I hope that Lenovo is able to provide a good reason if you can upgrade or not to upgrade.

Answer:T410s switchable graphics models able to upgrade to optimus graphics ?

If it didn't come with Optimus, then you probably can't upgrade it. Optimus configuration requires both a mixture of hardware and software. The hardware has to be internally wired to support it, and depending on the model of your T410s it either shipped with Switchable graphics support or Optimus graphics support. Since this is a hardware limitation, you aren't going to be able to upgrade.

My daughter has a Windows Media Centre Toshiba P20 Laptop and she came asking for help as the screen was totally balck except in Safe Mode when it had green lines running down the screen but at least you could see some Icons. Unfortunately she couldn't connect to the Internet in Safe Mode. After a bit of playing about I have managed to get some sort of screen by uninstalling her Graphics Card Drivers and letting Windows use the standard VGA Driver, albeit still with these green lines running down the screen. I have managed to connect to the Internet and downloaded the latest drivers for her card a NVidia Geforce FX Go5700. Problem is when I try to install teh driver the Setup programme can't find the card and if I do a System Restore which reinstalls the old driver I can only use Safe Mode which won't let me install the new driver. Can anyone give me some advice/ideas or how easy is it to replace the card? Thanks

Hi everyone....

Current PC specs listed above ..... to get it out of the way I am a gamer......

This upgrade is to allow me to play some of the newer games such as The Witcher and also to enable me to utilize DX10 when I eventually upgrade to Vista.

RAM.....this is what I have found...I do not overclock and I am very happy with the matched pair of Corasir XMS 512MB 5400C4 running at 533 that I currently have so I figured the safe bet is in just jumping to a matched pair of 1MB sticks of the same.....
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145015

Graphics card.....

I do have a budget and from the reviews I have read this card should carry me through the gaming world for at least the next year (hopefully 2) I like eVGA and I have nothing but good things to say about the eVGA 6800GS that I am currently using.

But if anyone has some input as to problems with the card listed below or if you know of another card that will perform just as well (or better) for around the same price I would like to hear about it.

it appears that it's integrated graphics. There will be no way to upgrade onboard video. (Assuming that your talking about the Sat A305-6858, with the x3100) as it doesn't have a dedicated GPU.

Okay so I'm a gamer, and I've been having trouble with my graphics, well at least I think it's my graphics. But I'm unable to find a solution so far, it's been since I updated my BIOS I think, although I don't understand if that could any any affect on my PC's performance/games.

Basically since I updated things on my laptop, my main game I play, which I had not had trouble with playing on my laptop since recently.. Has begun do spaz out, it can be fine for hours at a time, but randomly will begin freezing, making the games graphics unreadable or jumpy, and other times my screen becomes black, then comes back after a moment or two, with 'Display driver stopped responding & has recovered.
Display driver Intel Graphics Accelerator Drivers for Windows XP(R) stopped responding and has successfully recovered.' then it'll continue doing this repetitively until I have to reload the game or the entire laptop.

My graphics is Intel(R) HD Graphics, and my laptop is on Windows 7, so I don't understand why it's coming up with XP?

My and my boyfriend have been trying for a week or more now, to fix this problem and can't seem to find a solutioned, I've tried reinstalling the correct drivers, tried restoring the system back to more or less when I purchased it, also tried updating them.. Nothing seems to work...

Any help?
I've tried fiddling also, around with the settings of the graphics options but there isn't much there to go with only Performance and Quality ratio, and it still ... Read more

I know how to change this - I have to alter the resolution in the display settings, but it cant be altered! It would be great if someone could give me further instruction on what to do here.

I am using Toshiba L510 PSLGQL-002001 model. I'm having problem with some of the drivers. Graphics and web cam seem not work at their best performance.

I've already installed the latest driver for the Graphic chip set. I'm using Intel HD Graphics (Core i3) with 8.15.10.2086 driver version. when I check it using Everest, it says that this machine does not support Aero. here's the screenshot (everest.png)

Then I check it using GPU-Z tool and here's the screenshot (gpuz.png)

Please help.

Hi, i own a toshiba satellite A30 notebook. I have 512 MB of RAM, 32 of which is currently assigned to the integrated graphics chip. The maximum memory the graphics chip can have is 64MB but I do not know how to change it.I have looked in the BIOS but there is no UMA setting or anything else concerning the memory.I have also looked in the display properties and settings as it was suggested I change the frame buffer setting, but this setting does not exist on my laptop.Any help? thankyou

Answer:toshiba satellite A30 - graphics memory

How do you know that the graphics chip cn be given upto 64MB? The laptop manual?Depending on the chip and the board, not mention how the manufacturer wanted to configure it, some graphics chip RAM allocations can only be assigned at the factory. Thus rendering them unchangeable by the end user.

Hello people!

A friend of mine was about to throw out an old laptop he found in his basement but ever the optimist, I thought I might as well take a look at it and see if it can be fixed. It's a Toshiba Qosmio G30 running XP with an Intel Centrino Duo processor. The laptop turns on and is running just fine except for a crucial problem, the graphics card is buggered (at least that's what the guy at PC World reckons). The screen flickers on and off (it's off for much longer than it's on) and the resolution is completely off with several lines across the screen too. I can see that the system itself is running, I can move the mouse and open programs but it takes forever to squint and even longer to edge the mouse across while it's flickering.

My question is, was the guy at PC World right to tell me to give up on it? How long would it take to fix? Would I have to replace the graphics card? Is it worth it for this dated machine? I just hate to see it go to waste.

Thanks in advance for any help/thoughts/suggestions.

Harry

My Toshiba Satellite M60 164 developed a problem with the screen output a while ago as visible by clicking on the following link:
http://flic.kr/s/aHsjAyFKRG
I brought it to a repair place and after a long time and a lot of faffing they informed me that there is a problem with the graphics card. They quoted me a price to repair which was not too bad considering the age of the laptop and the price to just replace it, so I told them to go ahead. They ordered a replacement graphics card, fitted it and tested it only to discover the same problem appeared during the testing. They claimed that this was due to their supplier sending a slightly different part and then quoted a much higher price to source the part from elsewhere, which was however not economical. I got the part no off them (Toshiba VGA BOARD M24C 128, K000027010) and have found somewhere else to buy it for cheaper. However due to poor service and communication by them I am not for them to fix it and before I bring it elsewhere I want to ensure it is the correct part for this laptop as they did not install any faith in me! When I contacted Topaz, Toshiba's spare parts dealer, the lady gave me a different part number and said the graphics board and motherboard are all one when the repair shop had told me they were separate.
Basically I am wondering if anyone can confirm to me what the part number is for the graphic board and if it is attached to the motherboard or not? Also if you have any idea from this limited i... Read more

Hey everyone ! I have a Toshiba Tecra A3, and I got it a virus or two by mistake :-D .I couldn't clean it, as the virus made it impossible to open a window- from Windows Explorer to the internet, it just was non-responding. Eventually, I wiped the harddrive, and when I re-installed Microsoft Windows XP, I found that the graphics card and video card drivers were very hard to come by. I have tried everything I can think of, short of buying the Driver Direct programs, etc. I still can't find these 2 drivers, so I can only play games that don't require any Direct X - pretty much I can only play Age of Empires I and II. I would really like to use my computer again, so can someone show me where to find them ?

Answer:BSOD in Toshiba Laptop with AMD Radeon Graphics

Well, I used to play a lot games all together. Today I was trying Splinter Cell Blacklist. Unfortunately I could not even play for 5 mins and the bad thing just happened!
By the way I am using Windows 7 64 bit Home+AMD Radeon HD 7670M+6GB RAM+500GB HDD. In my laptop there are many installed games like Assassin's Creed III, Far Cry III, Call of Duty etc. Also I am using Clone Drive and software like AutoCAD 2013 (which I just uninstalled), MAtLAB etc.
Does it have anything to do with these? Or do I need to repair my OS?
I am really confused?

Hi all,
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, but I've stumbled across this place on the net.
I have a TOSHIBA Qosmio X70-B-112 which I have a couple of issues with.
First one being, when I start up the laptop, the boot screen with the logo 'Toshiba Leading Innovation' takes around two minutes to finish at which point I can login to windows which takes around 4 seconds from when I put the password in, until I can see my desktop. I'm just wondering why the initial boot time is so long. All drivers up-to date etc. Windows 10.
Another possible issue, the laptop is meant to have AMD Radeon R9 M365X Graphics card, however when I install drivers from AMD and Toshiba, the AMD Radeon settings screen tells me it's Graphics Chipset AMD Radeon (TM) R7 M380.
If anyone could shed any light on these issues for me, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris.

Alright, so i have had this Toshiba Satellite A40 for some time now, and it worked fine for all my school work etc. However when i started playing some videos once in a blue moon, the system crashes and i get a driver error that my graphics driver dont work. I recently tried to install GTA VC on the computer and it work until the moment of me starting new game. or any game. It crashes and either gives me a blue screen of death or driver error. The graphics card is a intel (r) 852MG/852MGE/855MGE/855MG. The system is running windows XP Pro SP3 and has 784 or something like that mb of RAM, and 40GB hard drive, and a 2.70Ghz pentium 4 CPU please help me get this running. I downloaded my driver from the Toshiba website under the drivers for this system. Any help will be appreciated, thanks

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A40 graphics driver error?

The causes for this issue can be different if the issue relates solely to "games". However if as you state it is also "videos" you could try another video player. I suggest you give VLC a try and see if it makes any difference for the videos side of things. Is the video card on-board or is it an inserted card? If you have access to another video card with associated drivers/filmware that you could install at least temporarily that could help with knowing where the problem lies.truenorth

To elaborate for others what you hopefully already knew about your setup.

Alot more trouble than it's worth since the GPU is name brand but frequently customized for the PC maker and even further customized for the particular chipset / cpu setup.
Tampering with those values is possible to varying degrees using purpose built LINUX distro's however the modifications are community based and anecdotal without manufacturers validation, the alterations can be damaging and Toshiba will be unsympathetic for rendering warranty assistance if they detect your alterations.

And that is why the process won't be as simple as upgrading a desktop GPU with a compatible boxed CPU.

I applaud your question and I'll spare you from elaborating why you want better graphics or which games you're unsatisfied playing since your dis-satisfaction and performance desires are uniquely your own.

Before you consider the tempting unsupported mod's I mentioned, you want to ensure your AMD's turbo is running full speed in the overclocked but unsupported manner AMD's are famous for and should determine if your games perform satisfactorily by overclocking the CPU's clock.

In respect for Toshiba, I'll avoid linking to the sites that describe overclocking AMD's since I personally find it unnecessary and the web has endless pages on the matter that you can assess yourself.

AS you suspect, overclocking assassina... Read more

I have been having trouble playing games on Steam and found out that my graphics driver is out of date.

Laptop: Toshiba Satellite, Model: A665D-S5172
Graphics: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series
Driver Version: 8.723.2.0

The latest driver version is 8.951.0.

The problem is that I cannot update the driver through other sources/websites due to Toshiba locking the driver updating through their site only. I checked their site and found that they have not provided an update for the latest ATI driver. I also found out that Toshiba no longer provides support for my laptop model.

I downloaded the latest driver from another source/site and tried to manually update it myself by telling it to look in the containing folder instead of online. When I do this the ATI Catalyst Control program pops up and takes over. It looks online for the latest driver and tells me I already have it. When I tried to deactivate ATI Catalyst it decided to delete the currently installed driver and I couldn't get ATI Catalyst to work afterwards to reinstall the driver from the Toshiba site. I was forced to go back to a previous known good startup point (I forget the exact terminology at the moment) to have things back the way it was before I messed with ATI Catalyst.

My question:
Is there a way to force update the driver without ATI Catalyst Control popping up and taking over?

Attached is a DxDiag text file.

Answer:Unable to update Toshiba Laptop Graphics Driver

Hello and welcome to the forums. McCrazy!

The answer is yes!

We'll do this the old fashioned way and bypass ATI's CCC and lock it down, using the good ol' reliable, uninstall, clean and reinstall method.

Before you do anything further, ensure that you have the following programs installed and at your disposal:-

1) Driver Sweeper 3.2.0 - This program will clean out all the remaining traces of AMD drivers on your system. Download and install this software before we begin.

Phyxion.net - Driver Sweeper

2) Download these 12.6 legacy drivers direct from AMD/ATI, no detection required, compatible with your mobility card also:-

http://www2.ati.com/drivers/legacy/1..._64_dd_ccc.exe

3) A system restore point handy just in case.

The Procedure:-

1) First, we're gonna take care of that pesky ATI Catalyst Control Center.

Head to your Task Manager (Press Ctrl-Shift-Escape) and terminate the CCC.exe and MOM.exe processes if you can find them. (Make sure to select Show Processes from all users at them bottom of the Task Manager first so that you can see all processes)

2) Next step, to get rid of all the existing AMD graphics software on your system in preparation for the new drivers.

Head to your Programs and Features entry in the Control Panel, find the AMD Catalyst Install Manager entry and right click on it, select Change and then select the option to remove all the AMD software on your system, and while yo... Read more

Good day All
I own a Toshiba Qosmio X870-F746 and a while ago the screen stopped going on so I sent it in to get diagnosed. They tested everything and said that it's a faulty graphics card. So they are busy getting prices for me, but I know it's going to cost me a fortune. So here are my questions:

I've seen on the web and YouTube that people are putting their graphics cards in ovens to melt connections and in some cases it worked. Would you suggest this?
The laptop takes the Nvidia GeForce GTX 670M. I don't do games anymore, so I don't really need an expensive graphics card like that. Will there be a cheap alternative that fits the laptop? Is there like standard shapes and size of graphics cards for laptops or does the manufacturer change the size and shape to fit the specific laptop?
Is it perhaps possible to bypass the graphics card? Shouldn't the motherboard have an on-board GPU like desktop computers? Most desktop computers don't need a graphics card.

Many thanks
Jacques

Hello there! New to the forums....

I have an intriguing graphics driver issue that has come up since I did a fresh install of Windows 8 Pro with Media Center on my Toshiba C655-5225... It seems that Toshiba does not have an "updated" graphics driver for Windows 8. The default Microsoft driver has a few issues. The screen likes to flicker a lot and sometimes text becomes "garbled" and such. I have gone though Intel's site looking for the driver, but the download only updates the "SATA controller," not the graphics driver. I have attached two images displaying what the graphics card is and the driver versions. I hope someone is able to help me find an updated Intel driver so that these icky bugs can go away. It's the only true thing that is avoiding me from loving Windows 8 on this laptop. I can provide more information if it's needed.

Answer:toshiba a50-106: CPU Upgrade possible???

Hi,

normally you can't upgrade a Notebook CPU. A Notebook is a complex built up machine and perhaps you could get problems with the BIOS!

I've never done this with a newer notebook and with older ones I only change the damaged CPU with the same CPU!

In the end I would disadvice you because you can damage more then it use!

Bye Tanya

PS: Why didn't you bought a faster Notebook when you had bought your A50??? ;-)

Anybody know how difficult it is to upgrade this laptop? Several websites state it will run much better by a memory upgrade (purchased with 512 MB memory)- is that true? How difficult is it to do the upgrade- DIY or not? Can you upgrade anything else easy - want to just do home pics, email, etc. - no gaming or heavy video stuff. The sites that are selling the memory upgrades suggest a 1gb stick - the specs say I can fit 2gb total -- so should I get two 1gb memory sticks. Any name brand memory will do ?? or suggest a specific buy would be great. This is a fairly old notebook- but it is still working great - so hate to trash it. Still has XP in it- upgrade to Win7 or not? Sorry for all the questions in one thread.

Answer:Toshiba P25 upgrade

How much ram do you have in it now? What operating system? what kind of ram and speed?

changing the ram is easy. If you have two slots, either they are both on the bottom, or there is one on the bottom, one under the keyboard. I put 2gb in my Dell, it wasn't that hard to do. IMO, any ram will do in laptops, get the cheapest one.

If you are just doing as you said above, you dont really need to update much more than the ram.

Hello all, this is a 6 year old Toshiba laptop that was having some general lag/bloat/popup issues so I just did a factory reset and completely downloaded all Windows Updates.. But, after the factory reset, it started having video issues. You can browse the web without much problem as long as you aren't on pages with videos or lots of images, but if you start watching videos and graphics intensive pages, the videos will (sometimes) go bizerk (like the one on Facebook posted below) or just random odd discolored/graphics pixelation in random places on the screen, or, it will just go blue screen (picture also shown of that). This doesn't happen immediately or constantly, but it happens enough to make the computer practically unusable. I searched the Toshiba site for an updated video driver and the newest file was from 2009, the year the computer was bought, and it didn't work anyway.

I have tried everything I know, but I remember having a similar issue with an XP desktop once and it turned out to be a simple patch. But, I don't know what to do with this. Is this a software issue or is something with the hardware going bad?

Answer:Toshiba Laptop Graphics/Video problem after factory reset (pics)

You are probably using the wrong video driver installed by MS under updates.
I suspect the driver from 2009 is the best driver for the laptop. It is not a good idea to simply update drivers for the sake of getting something newer. If it isn't broken, and it sounds like the video was working okay before you did the restore, then do not update the driver.

Unless you post the exact model of Toshiba, we can not link you to the chipset drivers because in a laptop, chances are good that the video is a chip on your motherboard and not a video card.

Been trying for 2 days to upgrade my sister's Toshiba Satellite P300, model PSPCCC-0K501C laptop from Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit to Windows 10 home 64 bit.
It always stops at 32% and 5% of installing features and drivers. I've tried using the upgrade wizard, Windows update and directly from the media creation tool. They all fail at the same place. Her DVD drive doesn't work so I can't try that but I did use the media creation tool to make a USB install disk drive. I removed the DVD hardware and the wifi card incase they were causing the issue and ran the install from USB, it stuck again at 32% and 5% of installing features and drivers. When I reboot Windows 7 is restored.
This morning I tried another install after running msconfig, hiding all Microsoft services, unchecking everything on Startup and Services tabs and it stopped at the same place.

I know it is not on the Toshiba supported list but does that mean Toshiba won't provide support or that the laptop will just not accept a Windows 10 installation? Has anyone successfully upgraded one of these or is this planned obsolescence?
Does anyone have any other ideas?

I am trying to help out a friend in upgrading his memory on a Toshiba Satellite 2545csd. Unfortunantly he does not have the owners manual and we are unable to determine where the chip goes. I am hesitant in just starting to dismantle the unit to try to find where it goes. Any help would be appriciated.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite upgrade

A lot of toshiba's and other laptops have an easy access to the RAM slots. This is usually on the bottom of the laptop which has one or two screws to hold in a small plastic cover. The slot will only fit a stick of RAM, nothing else. If not on the bottom it may be under the keyboard which would have to be removed, and if not there then the laptop may need to be disasembled for the upgrade. I might try suggesting trying to find a manual on the internet to assist in this.

If you have yet to order the RAM I strongly recommend using a site such as www.crucial.com where you can put in the make/model and get the correct RAM as this is very important in a laptop. The laptop will most likely take a 144pin SO-DIMM but make sure to get the right one.

so what i want to know can microsoft have done this or is it down to a virus and what can i do to reset it all so it runs ok is it just a bios reset is it software? .

i did try the drive from my laptop and still will not boot

Answer:Toshiba won't work after upgrade

What was the upgrade? How far did you get into the upgrade. Can you test by installing Windows to another Clean hard drive? Using an already installed drive from another computer is often not helpful due to Microsoft security protecting against piracy.
Doubt that Microsoft was the cause, but it would be helpful to know age and configuration of the Toshiba. BIOS reset will usually not be helpful.
Do you get lights and indications of power? Will the Toshiba go so far as to give you a screen? Does it detect a Windows install disk?

Hello,
I was recently given a toshiba a55-s106 satellite laptop and it is great! Hpwever, I purchased a game to install and it tells me that my graphics are insufficient to run it. I have an intel 852GM chipset and would like to upgrade. Any suggestions on how I can get a hold of a set of schematics for my computer or if I can just change the chipset or have to do the whole motherboard any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:wanto to upgrade my Toshiba

That graphic chipset is very, very bad indeed. Go to Toshiba's website and look under their support area. You can upgrade the graphic card, although I have no idea how (I deal with desktops). You don't need to swap motherboards. There are expansion slots inside the computer itself.

So I am over at my sister's place Friday night and she asked me if I would like a laptop. I said sure, let me take a look. It is an old Toshiba Tecra S1 (from about 2003) that she got from work a year and a half ago and it is actually in decent shape (for a company work laptop that has been passed on to several employees) and solidly built. I fiddled around with it for 2 days and suprisingly it is very stable.

It has the latest and last BIOS offered (from 2005) and I was able to upgrade the Intel wireless driver that was dated from 2006. All USB ports are working (unfortunately no S-Video or Firewire). It has Windows XP Pro and I was able to install SP2 without a hitch. The cpu is a 1.4 GHz Pentium M. It also has a DVD/CD-RW drive.

The only thing that I see as a drawback (besides old tech) is that the harddrive is a mere 40 GBs. I know very little about laptop hardware except the basics so can anyone suggest what harddrive I should consider concerning laptop especially in older offerings? An 80 to 120 Gig offering would be fine for my needs.

I have researched and I do know it is an IDE drive ATA-5. Will an ATA-6 drive work in this machine and the BIOS?

Also, there is only 512 megs of PC2100 RAM in a 2x256 configuration. I can upgrade to two gigs of PC2700. Will the BIOS give me an issue?

Lastly, I would love to be able to purchase a new laptop but finances are a no go and this offering will do what I need. Do you think the upgrades are worth it? Like I said, ... Read more

Answer:Toshiba Tecra S1: Upgrade?

First i would check:

Memory upgrades, flash media, and usb storage at Crucial.com

That will give you a accurate reading on the RAM setup and what you can do and a cost estimate.

The Hard Drive it should use any IDE hard drive that can fit into the laptop. Which would be a 2.5" hard drive not a 3.5" used on desktop PC's.

But with a new hard drive will mean a new install of Windows XP Pro. So you will need the media to install it. If you dont have one we have steps here on how to create your own as well.

Cheers,

Having requested and received the Toshiba UPGRADE DVD & Windows 7 HomePremium upgrade DVD, I came to conclusion immediately that the DVD sent was in a different language than the one requested and as for that I am unable to install it.

Shall I send back the DVD package I received in order to received the appropriate one in Portuguese PTpt?

I would like this situation to be resolved rapidly because I already had recently twice two problems with your service and unexpectedly things went wrong. ( And still I have been regular costumer of Toshiba buying 4 different laptops including this 1 and requesting a new one ).

Hope this get the resolution quickly.

I appreciate your time to read this email and hope to be contacted either through email or on this thread.

I have an old Toshiba Satellite M45-S331 with a Pentium M 730 CPU (1.6Ghz). I think the Pentium M series of processors went up to something like 2.2Ghz. I was going to give it to my daughter (10 yr) to play with, but I wondered if I could upgrade the CPU. The 730 has a 533 FSB which I think is the fastest FSB these processors came with and it is a socket 479 which I also think was the only socket used for these processors. Looking at Wiki, the core voltage is the same for the 533 FSB units (1.26?1.356 V) up until model 760 (2.0Ghz). After that, the core voltages go to 1.26?1.404 V. Would it be possible to upgrade to a 760 or higher?

Sorry if this is a duplicate post, I didn't see my first post on the forum.

Hello

What types of RAM you have tried exactly?

In user manual you can find some instructions how to upgrade the RAM. Did you exactly follow these instructions?

For NB305 you need ?DDR3 1066MHz(PC3-8500)? module and the maximum RAM capacity is 2GB that means you can install 1GB in each memory slot.

Hi,
I'm upgrading my old Tosh Qosmio F10 to 2GB (Its max capacity!)RAM.
I bought 2x 1GB KOMPUTERBAY PC2700 SODIMMs from Amazon.
With the 2 new modules in, thecomputer fails to boot.
With either 1 of the 2 new modules in alone, the compuetr boots to windows and crashes.
With the original 512MB Module in place and either of the 2 new modules in slot 2, the compuer operates correctly and windows recognises 1.5GB RAM. It runs faster than before in this state.
In my head:
I have proven compatibility and functionality of both new modules.
The system expects to see the original module - or one like it - and when it doesn't it falls over. I need to change a setting to change its expectation.
BIOS setting?
Pleas help.

Answer:Toshiba Qosmio F10 RAM Upgrade

Try disabling Shadowing and Cacheable RAM
Select the advanced settings option by using the arrow keys on your keyboard to move the highlighted bar. Hit the Enter key when you have the advanced settings options selected.
Find the options for Shadowing and Cacheable RAM and hit the Enter button.
Choose to disable both Shadowing and Cacheable RAM.
Exit by hitting the Esc key.
Press the Y key to save the changes that you have made. Your computer will now restart and boot up with the Shadowing and Cacheable RAM options disabled.

Hello all,
I recently bought myself a new laptop from Best Buy, a Toshiba laptop with a quad-core processor, a Radeon R5 graphics chip... I was happy. I was especially impressed by the fact that the Best Buy website, and in-store associates assured me that the laptop could be upgraded from the initial 4GB of DDR3 RAM to a total of 16GB.
I didn't do enough research.
I found out yesterday that my laptop is a special model which has a BIOS lock, making it incapable of user upgrades. Upon adding a second RAM chip, the laptop refuses to boot - even to make it past the BIOS.

Enough backstory, though, on to my question:
Is there any way to flash the BIOS to a point where the laptop is capable of being upgraded? Or am I just screwed?

The model:
Toshiba Satellite C55D-B5206
Link to the Toshiba website here.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite RAM upgrade?

You would have to look to see if you Toshiba has an updated BIOS on their website. Either that, or find a modified BIOS for your laptop (not very likely) that you'd like to risk flashing.

According to Crucial's website though, you should be able to upgrade to 16GB.

Does the pair you got match the speed/voltage/timings to your other stick(s)?

Hi Gang!

A helped a young lady and her mother purchase a new Toshiba laptop back on 8/8/09. The mother used her credit card to purchase said item.

I helped the young lady send in her Toshiba Windows 7 Upgrade request to Toshiba on the internet. First, I faxed the Proof of Purchase with her Account # (per Toshiba) to Toshiba so they would have it. After about 2 weeks, with no confirmation they received it, I then scanned in the Proof of Purchase and then attached that to account online.

2 days later she was denied her upgrade.

The Proof of Purchase is a copy of the Sales Receipt. From Best-Buy !!

So, the new Toshiba is running Windows Vista Home Premium, bought in August of 09, and I sent them 2 copies of the Receipt !!! Everything they asked for !!!

What else should I do? I looked online at Toshiba, and there are a lot of people upset at Toshiba for denying them also. Some legitimate, a few not so.

I don't know if this is the track record of Toshiba, in luring people into buying their PC's, then backing out of the upgrade for the PC, or not.

So, anyone else having a difficult time with Toshiba about the upgrade? what to do?

Thanks!

Answer:Toshiba Windows 7 Upgrade (DENIED!)

Not familiar with that particular offer, but there are one or two companines that handle rebates etc, for the manufacturers. They usually work the same way, the receipt PLUS proof of purchase is needed. The proof of purchase usually is the bar code from the box. Check your rules, and then try again.
