Deleting emails - without having to read them

Question: Deleting emails - without having to read them

In Hotmail if I want to delete unwanted emails without having to read them first I tick the box and click delete. A similar system works with AOL.Just click the email and click delete. Now that I am not on AOL but am on Broadband (using outlook express) if I click an email it automatically opens in the lower half of the window. Is there any way I delete email in Outlook Express without having to read them first???Thanks

Preferred Solution: Deleting emails - without having to read them

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Deleting emails - without having to read them

Go to View/Layout and remove the tick in the Preview Pane (in Outlook Express).

MS Outlook 2007 automatically deletes emails once they are read. The only way to save them is to move them to a folder other than the inbox. I felt there was probably a setting for this but I have been unable to find it. My older version of Outlook did not do this and I am at a loss. Thanks!!

Answer:Solved: Outlook 2007 deleting read emails

Hi JARUKA
Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

Are the messages appearing in the Deleted Items folder?

In Outlook 2007, set your view to this:

Computer running XP and emails read in Outlook Express;
but compacted email are in recycle bin

Computer requested I compact the emails which I have done at least twice

However, on checking the recycle bin I note that there are items in there from the OE

I have been checking my recycle bin  and have done a' compact 'of the OE but it seems that the compacting sends things to the recycle bin?

What should happen if the computer asks for the  OE to be compacted? where does it send the compact?

I am having to go through the recycle bin line by line to see what I can safely completely delete but also when I try to restore an item it seems to  make a duplicate in the recycle bin !!

I can still read the emails in OE but where should the compacted emails  actually be saved? And how if at all can I get this corrected?

How if at all can this be corrected or resolved please?

I already know how to create a "read" receipt for sent emails. From my understanding, when you set the function, I will received read receipts for all email that was read. I was wondering if this setting could be set on individual emails instead of all of them. Thanks!

Answer:Read receipt for read emails in Outlook 98

In the compose area of Outlook go to Options and check the box for that email.

Question: deleting emails

I am very concerned about my email/broadband provider. I asked them to transfer my emails to xp mail. Everything was going ok. Then when I bought a new laptop. The mail did not appear on Windows 7 mail so I asked why this was not shown on Windows 7 mail. Only some emails were transferred whereas all should appear in either. Today all my emails from XP have been deleted by my provider. Is this allowed. I have had emails with other providers and this sort of thing has never happened. Please help. Liza

Answer:deleting emails

I don't know if this will help you but have a read here enter link description here
Did you have your email program set up to leave mail on the Server and for how long? Maybe this is the reason you have only got some emails - maybe they were the only ones left on your Server - I may be entirely wrong in my assumption of course.

All of a sudden, when i open WLM all the emails in my inbox, sent, deleted and other folders i have created are deleted. Instead WLM loads 819 'unread feeds' from Microsoft, NHS Choices and Mahmood Al Quadsi???

Luckily i back up but if i manage to replace the newly-created store folder with the back up files WLM just obliterates them again. If i remove the storage folder and then open WLM, much the same happens except that WLM creates a new folder with the following structure and some flies/folders in blue??

And my email account window is now empty.

Can anyone please help?

Can anyone please help! Only recently, my PC is deleting emails by itself, once they have been read! It does not matter if it is in the inbox or whether it has automatically been mnoved to a folder. However it does not go the deleted items folder but just disappears.Regards

Answer:Emails Deleting Themselves

I had this problem too - they'd disappear as I was reading them, then I discovered that somehow I'd managed to copy the Inbox as a sub folder to somewhere else. Send yourelf an email, then when it's vanished, use the search facility to see if it turns up elsewhere!Just a thought, and if it's wrong, I'm sure someone else will be able to help.

Question: Deleting emails

Although I regularly delete unwanted emails and ry to maintain a clean Inbox I keep getting messages from my IDSP (onetel) sating that my mailbox is 80% full and I should delete further messages. Of course I also delete stuff from Sent and Deleted folders, but I still get ISP messages telling me to get rid of stuff. I then checked my email folder on the Internet, and discovered all the emails that I thought I had deleted sitting there as bright as day. How is this possible? I realize I can delete them from the mailzone on the Internet, but it is very time-consuming as well as frustrating. Can anyone tell me what, if anything I am doing wrong? Thank-you.

Answer:Deleting emails

I do not know how your ISP works things but it could be the web mail part of your facility also needs clearing down. It is also possible that your e-mail (is it Outlook express?) has been set up to save a copy on the ISP server. they will not like that. Have a look in your settings to see.

Question: Deleting EMails

If I want to delete a suspicious email how do I do it without opening it because as sonn as I select it the little envelope opens. Does that mean that the email is open or not. Sorry for being so thick but I am worried about these viruses.I have got AVG installed by the way and I am running XP Home

Answer:Deleting EMails

I assume you are using Outlook Express. the envelope icon just indicates if you have read it or not. Closed means unread and open means read. Now if you single click on an e-mail does it open in a window? Or do you have to double click to open in a new Window?Make sure Preview pane is OFF. View Menu, Layout, Uncheck Show Preview Pane.

Question: deleting emails

I am using Vista Home Premium 32 bit - when I click on an email to read in the preview pane it opens up the email - this does not happen every time. The other problem is that when i delete an email the next email is deleted also - again does not happen every time. Obviously not life threatening - just annoying. Hopefully this is not a virus?

Answer:deleting emails

Hello, and welcome to the Vista Forums!

I do not mean to be rude here in any way. We just have to check every aspect, as somebody somewhere has made every mistake possible! Are you single or double clicking on the Delete button? The delete button should be SINGLE clicked. If you double click on it, it can have this sporadic effect.

Thanks!

Hi Guys,

first post, I have tried searching to find a solution to this problem, but couldn't find anything.

Basically one of the guys at work here is having trouble with his Outlook deleting random(well not entirely but will get to that) emails.

this is the situation, he checks his email on his iphone, or webmail and there are emails there. (doesnt matter if he reads them or just sees the headers) he then gets to work opens outlook and they are not there. In terms of what emails aren't coming through seems to be random senders, but all of the senders emails.

We can see the emails in "recover deleted items" but once they are recovered they just get instant deleted again (you dont even see them in the inbox).

he is on windows 7 and we are using outlook 2007.
not sure what exchange server we are running, if its relevant let me know and ill work it out.
thanks.

hi i have dell notebook running XP home/office XP networked (wireless) to to a PC also running XP home/Office XP and i use synctoy loaded onto the notebook to sync outlook emails between the two.however syntoy seems to be deleting some emails from the inbox every now and again, some of the emails i can retreive from the deleted pst file in the recycle bin but not all, it's a real pain!anyone got any suggestions or know of a better sync. app?thanks

Answer:synctoy deleting emails

Looking at it from a different direction, I use the same set up as you (inc SyncToy) but leave emails on the servers so both machines get their own copies via their own Outlooks. It does mean that every so often I have to manually empty the server inboxes. I really use SyncToy for folders sync'd between the 2 and an external drive. There may be a better application that can handle the process with emails but you may have to pay for it.

Answer:Deleting unopened emails

First of all turn off, and keep off, the "Preview Pane" by going to View/Layout and untick the "show preview pane".Now when you left click a mail it will be highlighted but not opened. To delete a message left click on it and click on Red cross to delete it.You have to double left click messages to open them with the preview pane unticked, which means you won't open a message before you delete it.Hope this helps,Regards,Sapins.

I have a Sony Vaio laptop (using Windows 7) which has recently developed an odd fault. When I click on a specific email in order to delete it, the email below it will also be deleted at the same time. Also, when clicking on an email to open it, it will often keep opening it without actually displaying it on the screen, rather it just minimises them at the bottom. I have searched through the computer settings to see if I might have accidentally changed something to cause these problems but have found nothing. Can you help me sort this out, as it is time-consuming and frustrating to deal with! Thanks.

Answer:Outlook Express deleting emails

Normal behaviour with Outlook Express is to connect to the mail server, check for new messages, download them and then delete them from the server. They will therefore no longer be available using webmail, but should remain in the Outlook Express "Inbox". Is this what is happening? It is possible to configure Outlook Express to leave messages on the server, so that they can be retrieved again with a different computer or accesses by webmail.

My sister?s ISP is Blue Yonder (now taken over by Virgin)& she has cable broadband. She reads her emails in OE (her OS is XP). Before Virgin took over, any emails that she had downloaded were deleted from the server ? and that?s how she wanted things to be. But now they are all left there. I suggested maybe she had ticked by mistake ?leave a copy on the server?, but she hasn?t.Are there any Virgin users out there who know how to make emails vanish from the server when they?ve been downloaded?

Answer:deleting emails from Virgin server

Has her email account been set up as IMAP in OE? Clue is if the incoming mail server in the Account settings is IMAP.XXXXX where XXXXX is the mail server id e.g imap.viginmedia.com. Should be set as POP account if she wants the emails deleted from the server when they are downloaded into OE. Think she would need to delete and reset up the account to make a POP but as emails are all still on the server they should download to the new account when set up.

Hi
I have recently had a complete computer crash and had to reinstall my programs/files etc.
Since I reinstalled office I have this problem with outlook. i have an exchange account. Prior to this outlook and my iphone reflected the information on the exchange server, so if I read and deleted an email from either my pc or iphone it deleted it from both. Now, however, if I delete from outlook, it doesn't delete from the server so it still shows on my iphone. Deleting from my iphone still has the desited effect of deleting from the server and hence outlook.
Is there a setting somewhere that I need to change?

I have windows 7 and am using Windows Live Mail on my HP Pavilion g7 laptop. Every now and then a message that goes to my sent file cannot be deleted. For many of these messages, the original body of the communication is no longer displayed. What I see when I click on it is the wording:

Message cannot be found
The contents of this message cannot be found.

Some of the emails however, still have the original body of the message. In both cases, when I click on delete, either from the pop up list or from the delete symbol in the top menu bar I get a single beep and the message: "An unknown error has occurred."

This has been going on for several years and I have contacted the Microsoft people to assist with this, but they have been unable to help me delete these messages. As of this writing I have a total of 86 of these messages I cannot delete. There seems to be no pattern to what will delete and will not re the people I have sent the messages to. This is not something that is causing any slow operation or other problems, but I sure would like to know how to get rid of these emails so I can keep this box cleared out. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

I would usually say that you do not have outlook set to delete them off the server after downloading them but later you say they are not still on Google mail. This is perplexing but just in case, see settings in Outlook and make sure it is set to delete mail off server after downloading. Also clean out trash/deleted item folder in Outlook, Recycle Bin in Windows, and run Disk Clean Up. Then restart the machine. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

hello,

It seems that outlook will pop up a warning box only when permanently deleting emails, if I just delete a email in inbox, there are no any reminding for me . But as I have a lot of folders in outlook, it will be so much trouble to me if I delete or move a email by mistake, and want to find it back.

So can I get a reminding even when deleting or moving emails in Outlook? That will be good to me. Thanks.

By the way, I'm using outlook2010.

There's got to be an easy answer to this, and I know one or more members will resolve a query.Been having problems with Tiscali Webmail, and in their actions, emails are now sent from their server to my Tiscali account plus Outlook Express 6 on the computer.I now want to delete all the emails from Outlook Express 6, and there is well over 2000 by a quick delete method. I have looked how to do this , but have ended up with a negative solution.Any help would be appreciated and very welcome.Would perhaps mention that I am having problems deleting email from the Tiscali Webmail account as well. But thats possibly another issue that I will have to take up with Tiscali (dread!).

Answer:Outlook Express 6- Deleting bulk emails.

Not sure I fully understand the problem but in OE select one e-mail, Use the CTRL + A keys together which will select all and then SHIFT + DEL keys together to get rid of them all in one go bypassing the deleted items folder. If you say that the items are still on your server and duplicated in OE, check that under the Advanced settings for that e-mail account you haven`t got the "Leave copy on server" selected.

I've some old sent emails saved to My Documents from Live Mail.I can't delete them.I tried moving them to the recycle Bin,but they wouldn't go.I open them, but no option to delete as with old received emails.I sent them to myself after deleting the original address, but on deleting them in Windows Live mail, they stayed in My Documents. Can anyone help, please ?

Answer:Deleting Windows Live saved emails

Try Unlocker, this version for 64-bit and compatible with win 8. You'll need to search for the 32-bit version if that is the version of your OS. You will get a right click context menu which includes Unlocker and what you can do with the file or folder using it.

I am running outlook express and my OS is Xp pro. All of a sudden have difficulty deleting emails. The only way they delete is by using the shift+Delete keys. And when I delete emails from the deleted items folder, they only disappear when I close out and re-open outlook. I searched the forums and found one and tried it. I followed the instructions to compact the delelted items folder offline, but it says it is being used by another application, right at the very end. I verified this 3 times that I was working offline. Do all internet windows also need to be closed? Please help!!!

For some reason my e-mails are disappearing in Outlook Express and the program says that other messages which have been downloaded have not been. Any idea why this could be happening??? It's very unnerving. I have a lot of e-mails that I have kept unread to come back to when I have more time. Now everything after July 2005 is gone.

does any know how do I delete emails in my gmail just by using outlook?

thanks

Answer:deleting emails in outlook, not connecting with gmail

Depending on how you're connecting to gmail it may not be possible. I know it's not possible to delete emails on the web server if you're using an HTTP or IMAP connection. By default, most tutorials tell you to use IMAP and POP isn't enabled be default on a gmail account.

To Enable Pop in Gmail:

Quote:
1. Sign in to Gmail.
2. Click Settings at the top of any Gmail page.
3. Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
4. Select Enable POP for all mail or Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on.
5. Choose what to do with your messages after they're accessed with your POP client or device.
6. Configure your POP client* and click Save Changes.

To Configure Outlook 2007 to connect via POP:

Quote:
1. Enable POP in your email account. Don't forget to click Save Changes.
2. Open Outlook.
3. Click the Tools menu, and select Account Settings...
4. On the E-mail tab, click New...
5. If you are prompted to Choose E-mail Service, Select POP and then select Next.
6. Fill in all necessary fields to include the following information:
7. Click Next... You're Done. (Manual Cofiguration)

Update Outlook for Good Measure:

Now that you've enabled POP access via Outlook and Gmail you can set your client so that it will delete email from the server:

Hi guys,

This might seem a little strange...

I bought a new laptop - long story short, its dead. I know the hard drive is fine though.

I have to take it back to where I bought it to get a replacement laptop, however ALL my files are on it and I'm not happy about just handing that over.

I know I can hook it up externally to another computer and wipe all photos, documents, music, videos etc. but my question is how do I wipe my emails.

I was running Windows Live at the time with my hotmail account and I don't want this accessible to anyone.

Any help would be much aprpeciated.

Thanks

Answer:Deleting emails off my hard drive externally

On Win7/Vista, the WLM mail store should be in C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\. (Where username will match the name of your user account)

Is there anything preventing you from cleaning the drive entirely? If you really wanted to be sure, a tool like Active KillDisk might be advisable.

gmail is malfunctioning, I need to completely delete it, then reinstall. BUT, I need the emails saved in my filter folders. How can I save the folders and delete the program on my laptop?

I use gmail on my phone and my desktop, too, but, those versions seem to be working. I think there's corruption in the file on the laptop.

I really don't want to lose the folders, they contain old legal info, business communications from years ago that will be invaluable if I need to contact familiar professionals, and so forth.

But, with gmail sticking things in the trash, refusing to use "sent mail", behaving exceedingly strangely, I know I can't keep it as it is...I missed a reply to a letter to my lawyer today.
Thanks for your help...

Some emails sent through to my client aren't getting deleted off the server. I think there might be a problem with her Outlook Express.

Because the emails wont delete, Outlook Express keeps trying to download them and then fails...

When the email that appears to be stuffing up is deleted, the emails come through normally again until another one clogs the server.

Is it Outlook Express? Is there a known fix for this? I've asked her to run a windows update...

Hi,

This issue has been happening for over 2 years, Godaddy can't help so I thought asking other members for help.

It seems every few days I lose emails, I also spent $80 last-year for Unlimited emails but nothing changes.

The first Month it happened I connected Thunderbird and Godaddy reset the servers and all my emails appeared again. Its a endless battle and the topper was my Unlimited service expired so they closed my email address.

I currently have 5000 emails in my Thunderbird program but 38 emails when logged into the Godaddy client? The funny thing my sent emails don't get deleted have everything from 2011.

Thunderbird downloads everything automatically and doesn't delete a thing.

Hoping a few members can help me.

Hi all.
I use Thunderbird for my email and it's showing as 90% full. 1,800 MB used with 200 MB free. This is according to an email I had from 1&1 my host.
I do have sent emails for business mostly going back to 2010 and once in a while these are useful to search back on, so Ideally I'd not have to delete anything. It's the big sent list that is using up the memory I'm sure.
Is there a way to archive say the oldest 2 years worth and then delete them? This I realise might be more hassle than it's worth and to just delete them?
Your thoughts or advice is welcome.
Thanks.
Nick

Answer:Deleting-Archiving old emails to free space...

Check your account settings - under server settings - there will be a tick in a box "Leave a copy on server" untick this and messages will download to your PC and free up the space on your server.
Do not follow any links in the eMail from 1&1 - it may be a scam. Instead log in to 1&1 from your browser and check out your account from there.

I have recently installed Windows 8.1 and use AOL for mail. If I use the 'Search box' located on my inbox page to find a website and then return to my inbox and try to delete the text from the 'search box' - emails in my inbox get deleted instead. I have checked that I am placing the curser in the "search box" but it still deletes one or sometimes several emails. Does anyone know why this would happen.

This is one of three quirks that I am experiencing - another is that having opened an email from a website e.g money supermarket when i click in the right hand corner to maximise the page size it opens full size then immediately reverts back to the original. And finally when I go to return an email and start typing the message it will type the first few letters and then stop. I have to replace the curser, click and start typing again.

These are all annoying, they don't happen consistently and I have no idea if they are related or not. Can anyone give me any pointers as to what might help.

I have Outlook 2010 running on Windows 7. I'm a remote worker and use it for my work email and on a day I can't remember making any changes (updates, downloads, etc.). After months of running perfectly, all of the sudden, deleting emails is taking up to 24 seconds each. No error message, and no other speed issues when performing any other functions. This includes Shift+Del which is lightening fast. (I'd just do this all the time, but I choose to keep my deleted emails for several months. At the end of every workday, I move them to a folder I created.)

I've been though every troubleshooting guide I can find online and even called my IT guy at work. He had me give him remote access and he tried a bunch of stuff. Nothing fixed it. He downloaded Windows Live 2012 and it does NOT have a speed issue when deleting. He did rule out any problems with my HP laptop. We are at a loss. His solution is for me to start using Windows Live, but I paid for Outlook and it makes integrating with Salesforce so easy, I want to continue using it.

I have:
2 .pst files (511MB and 16MB)
zero RSS feeds
used the Control Panel to "repair"
tried safe mode with the same results/problem
disabled add-ins manually with the same results/problem
installed all critical and most recommended updates (2 security updates for Windows have repeated failed attempts)
run Microsoft FixIt
run defrag
compacted

Thanks in advance. Any ideas appreciated.

Answer:Outlook 2010 - slow when deleting emails

There are a number of variables in play here. How congested is the VPN infrastructure, with road warriors like you, what kind of hardware is your employer using for their modem, router, managed switches, speed of their connection they are paying for, how much traffic is going in and out of that connection, how are they running the Exchange server ( is it in a Virtual Machine), what kind of hardware are they running it on.

Then there is the factors of how many emails are in your inbox, in your archieve, have the system admin tried to do a Post box repair on your .PST & .OST.

Now of course, when was the last time the machine you are using, defray was ran, Disk Cleanup was also ran. How much memory is in it. What is the manufacturer & model of the computer you use?

Really in your situation, they should be using a Webmail solution for the road warriors, then using Outlook on it, while you are connecting from outside the domain. They can still allow you to use Outlook 2k10 when you go to the office and connect directly to the domain.

There is some really good information at Slipstick.com, regarding Outlook, Exchange, etc..

I know that with most companies, the IT department will be hard to find a lot of the stuff out, that I inquired about, but they are there to help you resolve problems between you and the servers. That is what they are getting paid to do.

Also make sure you have no issues with your own connection, if these issues are happening from your home. ... Read more

I've been experiencing a weird issue with Office 2010 v14.0.7173.5000 (32 bit).

Whenever I try to delete an email from my mailbox (which is stored on Exchange but cached locally to an OST file) Outlook crashes.

It generally happens on the second deletion of an email within a list - Outlook halts for a second and then crashes out, closing the application altogether.

No event logs are left by Outlook or Windows system itself.

Any help on the matter would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello

I'm a an IT consultant for a public relations company who lives and (hopefully not) dies for their email. What some of the users are experiencing are issues relating to the inability to delete random email messages. There's no rhyme or reason for it, at least it seems that way to me. This could be any particular message; so it's sporatic in nature. I interact directly with the CEO who has this problem most often.

Before I go too far let me say that they connect virtually to an Exchange 2007 server over their WAN connection. They don't own their own Exchange server. They have had this trouble in the past so what I've been doing is to delete and re-create the user profile of the user who is having the problem. Then the user re-synchs with the Exchange server and is back in business. This seems to help but the problem reappears again after some time; (no time frame for that). Some of these folks have rather large OST (not PST) files. In fact, the CEO's OST file is over 9 GBs. Well, back in the day when I worked at AT&T, if we had a client with a 2 GB pst file, Microsoft would not even support you. These days however, starting with Outlook 2003, PST and OST files can be much bigger; how much bigger is the question.

So, if anyone has ever experienced such a thing and found a solution, I'm all ears.

Thanks for any help you might be able to provide.

When I acquired my new computer, I moved from Win 98 to XP. I have a couple of CDs with pictures downloaded from the internet, some of which I wish to delete as they are .art; I have changed these to .jpg but I find I cannot remove the original .art files from the CD. If I try, I get a message saying they cannot be deleted as they are read only. I have gone into Properties and tried to change them from read only but I am denied access when I try to do this. Answer:Deleting 'read only' pictures

You can't delete files burnt normally in the way you want, even from a CD-RW disk. You can only delete files from a CD-RW, if you have burnt the file originally using packet writing software such as Roxio's DirectCD or Nero's InCD. To do that, you need to format the CD-RW for packet writing first.

in outlook 2010, i understand one can use a gmail account without actually opening up the gmail account, that is he can run the account from outlook, does that mean one can delete messages also, just like a regular account.
when i try to delete a message, it deletes it from the inbox of that gmail account in outlook 2010, but under the gmail folder it updates itself, and downloads it again, even after i delete it from the gmail folder also.

thanks.

Answer:deleting gmail emails from outlook 2010 folder

Hallo tapuz, you may have to sign into your gmail account and delete all your old messages.
From there select settings in the top RH corner
Then select Forwarding & pop/imap tab
In the pop download column go to option 2 and in the drop down box select delete gmails copy
Then select save changes.
This will stop gmail saving a copy once Outlook has downloaded it to your computer.
I hope this solves your problem, if not post back

i have office 2007 using outlook and when i delete emails one by one because i need to read them and confirm i can delete them. it seems after deleting like 10 or so the Focus higlhight of the email moves back up to the top of the inbox and i have to take the mouse and move it back to the one i was looking at or i push the down arrow key to get me back to were i was. WHY does outlook do this. the view i have is Window view on the bottom and emails above this window in category just emails no preview pane.

Answer:outlook 2007, deleting emails one by one focus moves to top

Outlook does a re-indexing of the Folder just like Windows Explorer/File Explorer sometimes will, just refreshing its 'mind'. There's not been much change in that process over the past versions. A couple of my Webmail accounts do the same and that's with messages on their Server.

When I delete an email received in my Win 10 Mail App inbox, the same email is also deleted in my Gmail inbox, automatically. I would like to prevent this. Emails deleted from my Mail App should be left behind in my Gmail inbox. Could I prevent this deletion from happening by changing an IMAP Access setting in my Gmail settings?

I attach two pictures. In the one, you can see how my Win 10 Mail App was configured by Windows when I added my Gmail account. In the other picture, you can see what I consider changing in my IMAP settings at GMail. I have no idea if this will help and whether I should make this change. I am fairly computer-illiterate.

I also get +"Fatal Error"+ messages each time I open my computer saying this program will be terminated, which I "OK" as I've not opened anything ! This has been a feature for many months now.
Has anyone any hints for how I might overcome this?

Hello,

I use Mozilla Thunderbird for my e Mails.

Their support forums, at least the ones I have found are not very responsive, if at all.
Have Always gotten really great help here, so let me ask:

I cannot figure out how to automatically have Thunderbird place an eMail that comes in, and had previously been "marked" as a scam, directly into the Delete or Trash Folder without it ever showing up as an eMail in the "Inbox" Folder.

If I "Mark" an eMail as a scam all that seems to happen is that it then goes to the Trash Folder.
But, I can do this with the normal Delete function.

Nothing in their Options/Security menu seems to accomplish this.

I get a few eMails every day, each day, that are scams and/or msg's with likely virus's.
Same Senders.

I would like to have them "deleted" automatically and safely before making it to the Inbox.

Any way to do it ?

Thanks,
Bob

Every time a friend of mine opens OE it downloads previous messages that have already been downloaded, which is a big problem as he is on dail-up. It must be an OE setting, but we can't find it. Any Ideas?

Answer:Read mail not deleting from server

If a POP3 mail account is configured to leave a copy of messages on the server (Tools, Accounts, [the account], Properties, Advanced), OE downloads the same messages during a send or receive session. Duplicate message will also be downloaded which can occur if the file Pop3uidl.dbx is corrupted. This file keeps track of which messages on the server have already been downloaded and should therefore be skipped on subsequent downloads, [Q216366] and [Q314578].
