Question: Best Program to Mirror Hard Drive?

Preferred Solution: Best Program to Mirror Hard Drive?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Best Program to Mirror Hard Drive?

I have a 20gb drive with Windows 2000. Taking advice from a recent PC Advisor Mag I want to install a second drive & create a mirror image of the first as a foolproof backup. Any experience of a good program that will work with Win2000 or Win NT please?

Howdy,

I currently have a 250GB IDE HDD with 2 MB of cache and I bought a new 250GB SATA drive with 16MB of cache.

I'm going to be using the SATA drive as the boot drive and the IDE as a secondary drive.

What's a good program to use to mirror my current hard drive to the new one?

Also, could someone point me in the right direction for an online guide to how to install a SATA drive?

Any advice is much appreciated...

Can anyone help me to mirror my hard drive so if one fails i will have the second as backup!!!

Answer:How do i mirror my hard drive????

RAID1 will be a constant mirror (what is on one will be on the other.) I am not sure if you can start doing that one day.

On accessories, system tools you can backup there and do that regularly.

Question: Hard Drive Mirror?

Someone told me that If you get 2 identical hard drives, you can mirror them and have your main one automatically copy everything you do to it onto the second, so that if the first one burns out the mirror (the second HD) will automatically boot and act as the primary until I can replace the old one. Is this true? If so, how would I go about doing it? Its worth an extra 75 bucks for a 320gig drive to save all my stuff in case of a burnout. Thanks.

Hi to All from new member,
I need to wipe my hard drive and re-install; if I do a mirror backup of the hard drive to an external drive using my Acronis software, will I be able to restore the entire c drive including various applications I have installed over a period of time. Unfortunately, I no longer have original or re-install disks for some of my apps. My computer is an HP pavillion d4100e with windows xp.
Thanks in advance,

Greetings to all,

I was wondering if someone can tell me what programs are out there that would allow me to mirror one connected hard drive to another. I am not looking for raid but rather an exact one time copy of a hard drive. I am not looking to do this in Windows (as in Acronis and Norton Ghost) so much as looking to boot off a floppy or cd or what have you to do this task. Any thing like that out there?

Thanks,

hey,

my old hard drive was getting too small, so, I decided to upgrade it,

I used norton ghost to mirror it and put it onto a larger drive,

I did that and disconnected my old hard drive, then left the new one connected, I started up my comp and it came to the Windows xp normal black background then it came to the light blue background, just before you log in, and it just freezes, and usually it will say "windows is starting up" but it just has a windows logo without those words,

If anyone has any ideas of how to fix this it would be greatly appreciated,

thanks in advance,

Indyroo

I am currently upgrading an ATA133 hard drive to SCSI Drives. I started with a 40gb ATA drive and have run out of room and want more performance so I did what any man would do and I have installed a SCSI card and an 18gb and a 73gb SCSI drive. I have accumulated lots of information and small programs on the old ATA drive so I have installed all 3 in the computer, moved all my non essential programs and games to the 73gb disk and am left with my OS and essential programs on the old ATA drive. Can anyone advise me on the best method if any to transfer the remaining programs and info to the 18gb hard drive, I have about 12gb of programs to transfer, including my OS with all my drivers and settings. My problem is that I need to do it this way and not delete and setup the programs again if possible ( i have done this once a while ago when I crashed my HDD ) it took about 3 days straight to set up all the programs up again, I don't want to do it again if possible. Files and settings transfer wizard will not copy the vital parts of my OS and I do not know of any programs that can do this does anyone know of one, also I have thought of fooling my computer or using a program to setup the 18gb drive as a raid drive mirror copying the ATA drive over then reverting it back to a normal drive, would this possibly work, Hellppppp!!!!!!

I recently bought a new computer with an approximately 550GB hard drive. After I bought the computer, I basically transferred all of my programs/files from my older computer to my new computer. I would like to create a back-up of my computer to a portable hard-drive. When I tried to make a mirror copy of my new computer to the portable hard-drive that I had used to back-up my older computer, the back-up program (Acronis) told me that I didn't have enough space. This does not seem right because I was able to back-up my laptop and my desktop computers on the same portable hard-drive. I think what is happening is that Aronis is trying to back up the entire 550GB's and not just the programs/files that are on the new computer. Is there a way that I can back up just the programs/files that are on my new computer and not the entire hard-drive? (There is an option to back up files on Acronis, but I didn't see an option to back-up files and programs, i.e., everything that I have on the computer and not unused space on the computer's hard-drive. Thanks in advance with any and all recommendations.

Question: Mirror Hard Drives

Went to a small business yesterday which used mirror hard drives. Seemed like a good idea as one of the drives had failed and they just switched to the other. As a small (non-IT related) business myself it would seem to solve all the probs of back up also. But was told that the second HD would have to be not less capacity than the original HD. As I have a 120Gb drive this would be expensive. Is this right, bearing in mind I am never likely to fill more than a half of this drive?

Answer:Mirror Hard Drives

Its usefull although it slows the system a little. It also works best if you use two identicle drives.

So currently my gigabyte motherboard has 2-1TB drives in a mirror raid as my secondary drive for data storage and 1 250GB single drive for my OS. In the BIOS I have the setting set to RAID for my hard drives, which I set this after I loaded windows when I first started, but now my 250GB single OS drive needs to be reloaded, but my XP disc will not see the drive since I have it set to RAID. I'm having trouble loading the raid drivers from gigabyte and I thought it would be easier to set the hard drives to AHCI mode and unplug my 2-1TB drives, reload windows on the 250 then plug my 2-TB drives back up then switch the BIOS back to RAID, but I am worried that this will mess up my RAID on my 2-1TB drives?? I would hate to experiment and lose the data on those drives. Will switching modes mess up my RAID???

Answer:Gigabyte Mirror Raid on backup drive need to reinstall XP on single OS drive question

Pull the drives off the system, do whatever you need to do to get XP installed. When that is working, change the settings to RAID, then reconnect the mirror.

It's best to install XP with nothing else on the system anyways, otherwise you risk having XP decide to install your O/S on drive "D:".

Started with Windows and apps successfully running on Disk 0 (1TB Seagate). Bought an exact duplicate HDD, recognized as Disk 1. Followed instructions and used Windows Disk Manager to convert Disk 0 to Dynamic, and configured as a mirror with Disk 1. Everything still worked perfectly. Physically disconnected Disk 0 to test booting from the Disk 1 mirror. Boot failed, and upon reconnecting Disk 0, the PC rebooted (from Disk 0), but mirror was broken.

THEN, my error, instead of properly re-establishing the mirror, I "imported" Disk 1. PC still boots (from Disk 0), but now Disk 1 appears with a drive letter, and Disk Manager does not offer the option to break nor re-establish the mirror. What steps must I take to re-establish the mirror?

Neither Seagate DiscWizard nor the Dell Backup utility seem to work with the dynamic disks. The running application is mission critical, so I hesitate to use "unbranded" utilities.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Mirror to Mirror Ghost drive, in case of HD failure:

I want a secondary drive in my PC such that,
it is exactly Ghost copy ( mirror to mirror ) of my primary drive including programs and all operating soft wares )
and it copies every once, in a month, to keep it updated
so that when the primary drive has crash / fails,
I can simply replace with the other one,
and computer will start working normally without any problem.

How this can be achieved?

Is it possible that Norton Ghost Utility can do that?

What is the best program for this? Anyone has done it?

The copy program should not use any window utility files
in order to make mirror to mirror copy of the primary drive.

I am dying for this kind of facility.
Pl. suggest me this remedy, about how it can be achieved, and which is the best software for this.

HD are pretty cheaper now a days.
Pl. narrate yr experiences in this regards.

Thanks.

Answer:Mirror 2 Mirror - Ghost Copy of a HD, in case of a failure !

Why not buy a RAID card -- unless your motherboard already supports RAID. You can run two drive in RAID 1 configuration (mirrored), and if one drive fails you can continue to use your computer. After you replace the failed drive, you can have the RAID array rebuild (re-mirror) to the new, empty drive.

Using a RAID 1 configuration, you are always backed up. The only drawback is if you have a file corruption problem or a virus -- then it would be on both drives.

Long story. Ready??? Any and all help is appreciated.

We will start with labels. I have 2 80 G Seagate HD's. We will call the one I have been using forever #1HD and the one that was the back up #2. Both hard drives are partitioned into 3 separate partitions C/D/E. Running XP Alienware with RAID (I think). System is almost 4 1/2 years old.

About 2 years ago I had a buddy array and mirror the two hard drives. Something happened about a year ago and the mirror fell off line. I didn't notice it and it continued that way until 6 or so months ago. Then I called my buddy and told him. He said that if I wasn't worried about a mirror then just to make a new array and that everything would be alright and I would have 80 G of extra hard drive space. Cool. So I did that. Then I started it up. Well on first start it booted to #2. (neither HD is set up as a slave). So I thought cool I will just swap wires and off I go.

Not so much. Well it booted up to HD#1 because some of the old users weren't there, but once I got into my user it went to my old desktop with all the old stuff. It had renamed #1 HD F/G/H and had made the #2 C/D/E even though I swaped the wires. So utterly confused I disconnected HD #1. I just wanted to wipe the #2 HD. But now it will only start up and run in windows for a minute or so before initiating a shutdown/restart. I turned off the automatic shutdown feature in the properties and at the point where it shuts down it just freezes.

Ok so I will try #1. It... Read more

Hi, last week I had a lot of help re my failed hard drive, SeaShanty gave me a lot of info which has enabled me to get this system up and running again he has also suggested I get Maxblast(which I have done) to "Clone" from one drive to another. what I need to know is what is the difference between Maxblast, a free download and Mirror Image or Norton Ghost which have to be payed for, I feel I am in another minefield and need to learn more and tread with care. Answer:Hard Disk is fine but need info on Mirror Image

With Freeware, you don't usually get the same level of support that a company like Norton can provide should things go wrong.Hard Drives fail for a variety of reasons including overheating, being mounted upside down, excess vibration or knocks and excessive access.

Question: Mirror Drive

Having suffered a hard drive failure I have installed 2 new identical hard drives in my computer. How do I make one of them a mirror of the other?

Answer:Mirror Drive

Imaging software such as Norton Ghost, Acronis True Image, Paragon Exact Image etc, will let you either create a backup "image" of your hard drive, which can be restored to a new drive in the event of failure, or "clone" an existing hard drive. For everyday backup purposes, it is more usual to make regular "image" files, although "clones" would allow you to swap over drives in the event of failure.

My old self build computer has come to the end of its useful life and is not worth upgrading so I have now ordered an Acer Aspire M3802 with 2 x 1TB SATA HDDs. Question: Mirror Drive

Today I noticed an extra drive under My Computer. After some investigation it turns out that the drive is a Mirror of one of my usb drives. I tested this by creating a txt doc on the drive and it shows up on the mirror. I also tried it the other way (create a txt file on the mirror) and it also shows up.

How do I get rid of it?

I have been searching around a bit. Tried Mountvol. It will get rid of it but the mirror pops back up when I reboot.

I recently hooked up this drive to my Dish DVR but the drive goes to sleep and the DVR doesnt like that so I put it back on my computer. I deleted the partitons and rebuilt the drive with vista. I think this is the problem but fdisk /mbr does not work under vista.

There may be something that I am completely forgetting and being stupid about but I cant figure it out.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I dont know if this would go in gaming or not:

Ok i have my OS on one hard drive. I have another free hard drive (exact same kind as the OS is on) that i can put programs or what ever into.

As far as speed goes (least lag, load times, etc.) would it be best to put the application.... for example a game, onto the hard drive that carries the OS or into the empty hard drive?

Or would it be best to put the game onto the OS hard drive and then put the paging file into the empty hard drive (non OS)?

Answer:Running A program from Non OS Hard Drive

I personally have Windows XP on one harddrive along with a "storage" partition, then I install all my applications and games on the separate hard drive. Im sure it would load faster as it doesn't have to load OS stuff from the same hard drive. My pagefile is on the windows partition i guess. I didn't know you could change the pagefile location?

It was suggested that this type program is essential because it can not only provide you with the condition of your HD but also give you a "heads up" as to when your HD is in trouble and about to fail.

I was wondering if any of our group use such a program and, if so, which one, and the pros and cons relative to such a program.

Answer:hard drive program transfer

You can't! You can move files, but the registry and file assosiations need to be set on the primary system partition and also have the support files installed. The install program will install dll's and other system files in many locations so it is more than a matter of just moving them.

Read the license agreement you OK'd when you installed it, I am pretty sure that you are not allowed to reinstall it on a different system. If you install it without activating it, it is a trial version and I believe it will work for something like 30 days and bug you periodically to activate it.You can download and install free of any charge Openoffice.org for any system (Windows, Mac, and Linux). It can open MS Office formats as well as many others. You can set it to save in MS Office formats by default so everything is more portable. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

2. Update the cloned drive with all subsequent changes made to the primary hard drive.

Answer:Program To Clone Hard Drive

Sounds like you are asking for RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks).

The level of RAID you are referencing is RAID1. This mirrors 2 drives so that if one fails, the other still works, and data is not lost.

Kind of expensive to implement though, you will have to judge if it is practical for your situation.

Unless of course, you don't need to make the changes constantly. If you are just looking to update daily rather than real-time then norton ghost might be all you need.

Also it measures the hard disk transfer speed in real time which can be used as a benchmark or to detect possible hard disk failures, performance degradations.

Hard Disk Sentinel can be used to prevent serious damage or data loss. It warns the user if there will be a problem occur and this gives opportunity to backup important and valuable data. Click to expand...

I have an old Thinkpad that I'd like to give away. I deleted all the files, but they can be recovered with Unerase. I could download something like CCleaner on my other computer and copy it over, but I don't have another PC with a 1.44 drive and the USB drive doesn't recognize any of the USB drives I've tried.

I tried using the oldest (and newer) USB drives I had.

Add New Hardware Wizard
Found PC Multimedia Device or USB Mass Storage Device
Search in C:\Windows
Windows was unable to locate a driver.

Under Device Manager, I have a ? next to USB Mass Storage Device

Systemworks doesn't have anything.
I tried installing WIn 7, but the drive doesn't recognize the CD.
I tried installing Win 8, but I need to update Windows first.

Does anyone have a way I can permanently wipe the empty space through Windows or am I going to have to take out the hard drive and tell the person they have to buy a new one?

Thanks for any help.

Answer:Need to wipe hard drive w/out being able to d/l a program

How about download something to another computer and then burn it to a CD or DVD disc? You mention the Thinkpad has a DVD drive, so you should be able to then copy the installer off the optical disc and then install it in Windows XP on the Thinkpad.

I want to change my set up so that I can run 2 windows os's 32bit & 64bit on seperate hard drives whilst using a third hdd for program files. note: I have never run a 64bit setup so I am not to sure

hdd0 - 32bit
hdd1 - 64bit
hdd2 - Music, Videos & Games and other Programs

The intention is to install the game/program on to hdd2 and be able to run it from both hdd0 and hdd1 (if the program is compatible with both that is).

Can anyone give me advice on whether this is possible and the potential complications/pitfalls that I might encounter?

Hello all, I have just installed a hard drive monitoring program called HDD Health 2.1. Soon after I installed it an alert popped up on my screen advising that my hard drive (C) that contained my OS, programs and data had reached 46 degrees. What was worse however was that my other hard drive that only contains backups was reading 49 degrees. At the time I wasn't using that one at all, because I wasn't restoring or backing up. What is going on?
Thanks for your help!

Anyone know of anything?

Answer:Hard drive backup program

well, you could use a cron-type program to initiate a backup.

For Windows, this could be pycron (check Google) calling xcopy (in your dos window)
Not a formal software backup app, but it would do the trick.

Sometimes randomly my HDD starts doing crackling noises alot and especially when i do something. This may last for like 5-20mins. Is there any program to check what program or other is using up all the bandwidth going/coming through to my HDD?

Answer:Program to check what is using my hard drive much?

You have one way already in your pc. Go into 'Task manager', then 'performance' tab, then 'resource monitor'. The 'Overview' tab tells you what is happening. It is very useful to show if you have enough RAM installed for the programs you are running.
*One idea though, do you have a defragmentation program installed, which is set to run in the background or 'smart/auto' mode ?

**If you want to try a more detailed program try; http://systemexplorer.net/download.php
Click on 'Download' tab.
(The link for the download is near the bottom of the site, just above the blue advert. 'Download installer version' is the one.)
Run it 'as administrator'. This program highlights the programs which have just been active with a coloured background, which may help you .

I have the Pinnacle Studio Delux which I use to put still photos with transitions and music and burn to DVD or vhs tapes. In Pinnacle booklet, it says it will work better if it is on it's own hard drive, so I had someone install a second hard drive for me, but it does not work.
1. I cannot download program to this second hard drive (no programs), the only thing I have been able to use this second hard drive for is for storage (photos/documents, etc.). I am think ing this second hard drive has something missing, is the second hard drive suppose to have it's own operating system?
2, I install the Pinnacle to the master hard drive and it is now not working correctly there either, it runs real slow and when you go to render the video, it keeps crashing. The program worked fine before I installed a secondary hard drive, it was a little slow but it worked fine, now I cannot get this to work correctly at all. I had the person who put the second hard drive in come to check it, but they said it is not the computer, it is the program, but, my question is why did it work before and also why can't I use the second hard drive for anything but storage?
If you can solve any of these problems, it would be WONDERFUL!

When you go to install the program, you should be able to select the hard drive to install to, you'll have to make that change manually. Once the install process starts, do not choose the 'standard installation' routine.

Hello,
I searched but I can't find the same issue. I know how to reconnect a drive in a Mirror raid when the previous has failed, then the system will copy all files and rebuild the Mirror.
But my problem is the following:

- I had on Mirror raid consisting of 2 identical drives, for data security.
- Yesterday, I put a new drive in the system (not for the Raid array, just a regular one for other purposes)
- I had to rearrange all the drives inside the pc and redo all the wiring and plugging.
- When I started Windows, it said one of my two raid drives was missing and that the redudancy failed. I thought the drive was dead but it wasn't.

- I actually right clicked on it in disk management and did a "reactivate volume", then the drive went back online and worked, it doesn't seem to be damaged at all and is marked at "healthy". I did a quick scandisk and everything is fine.

- Now my raid Mirror is broken, I have the 2 drives but they aren't connected together.
- They are still marked as "dynamic" while being separated.
- When I right-right on one of them I don't have any option to reconnect them into a Mirror. Extend volume" and "add a Mirror" are greyed out.

I seem to be stuck. Any idea of what should I do?

Thank you for helping.

Answer:How to re-mirror a drive to RAID

We see nothing but problems here with RAID ever since Win7 beta. Not a single good report of RAID, almost daily reports of disasters. It isn't even redundant - the very first letter of it's name! - since users often lose everything when a drive fails or crashes.

You are best off to unRAID your drives and install Win7 to the fastest drive, or to an SSD which is the best upgrade you can possibly have - even better than buying a new PC without one. Then after install add back and format the other drive(s) for storage, data and the all important and reliable backup images taken just after install and setup and then regularly.

Then focus on doing a perfect Clean Reinstall Windows 7.

I wish I had better news for you, but it is not something I mess with because it only gets worse, never better, compared to the perfect installs we have helped millions get here.

Hi I have never used a flash-drive as yet, or Raid but....Is it possible to copy/save your work on a Laptop hard-drive and have it mirrored onto a flash drive at the same time when saving.I think its possible where you can use raid with a PC or lap-top with two drives, asuming it has raid. but not to sure how or if with a flash-drive.Or is it a matter of using the flash just to make a back up of your work after saving on the main Drive of PC.

Answer:Mirror onto flash-drive?

I think there is backup software for businesses that will backup a server to more than one drive simultaneously, but I've never heard of this on a standalone home computer. But that's not to say it can't be done.I suspect that the solution (if it exists) may be quite expensive. Certainly more costly than just copying your backup files across to a second drive!

Early build of v9 had a few major bugs. The latest build seems to have resolved these issues. BUT..... this is not a program for the faint-hearted. I believe I can save it to the hard drive and install it from there instead of having to keep running the cd, but am not sure how to go about it. Pointers would be helpful. P.

I have a new hard drive. I was hoping to use the Ghost Symantec program to copy my old hard drive on to the new one. It appears to be more difficult than originally thought. Can anyone walk me through this please. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Installing a new hard drive using ghost program

I do not use ghost, I use acronis true image however the steps should be about the same. I am assuming these are ide drives you are using.
To clone a drive.
1 Install the new drive as either a slave on ide1 or you can put it as the master on ide2 for now. Do not partition or format the drive; just install it like it came out of the box. If there is any partition info on the drive, delete the partition in disk management before you begin.
2 Boot with your clone CD ie the ghost CD. Select source [old drive] and destination [new drive]
3 Complete the clone process
4 Shut down the system; do not reboot with both drives connected. This will cause drive letter problems.
5 Install the new drive as the master on ide1. Be sure to set the jumper to master. Pull the power connector from the old drive.
6 Power on the system and make sure it boots and drive letters are correct. If all is well, you can shutdown and connect your old drive as a slave device for storage.

Note you may use CS [cable select] instead of master / slave. One other caution. If one of your drives is a WD western digital, they have two master settings. One is master single drive and the other is master multi drive. You set the jumper to what ever you have ie one drive on the ide channel or two drives on the ide channel. If your disks are not WD, disregard the above.

Well, I FINALLY have an extra hard drive exclusively for the purposes of backing up my main hard drive. I want a program that will make an image of my entire C: drive (windows XP 64 bit) and dump that on my G: drive automatically, every night. Are there any good, simple, and hopefully free programs that will do that? I want the image to be in some kind of standard format (iso?)so I'm not locked into one kind of software if I have to restore...

Answer:Good hard drive backup program?

Acronis True Image.

Imaging software doesn't make "ISOs" unfortunately, that's not how they work. They all use proprietary image formats for themselves, but you typically get some way of making a bootable recovery CD as well. True Image allows "live imaging" meaning you can back up/image your system without needing to shut down - although a restore operation (if required) will.

There are several different apps out (True Image, Ghost, DriveImage XML, etc) but, for the feature set, ease of use, stability, and general reviews, nothing beats True Image.

you can get a free demo of Easeus data recovery wizard which you can use to look at the data and see what it could recover. I used it to recover the data from an external usb hard drive with a master boot record failure.

Hi!

I have windows 8.1 and c-drive is system drive.
Programs are mainly installed to C: but I have also some programs installed to E: Program Files, Program Files (68), Program Data etc .
Now I want to to move E-drive contents to another hard drive (all files stored on e-drive).

I think the safest way is to reinstall all programs, but I don't want to do this. Also it is possible to move files to new partition which has another drive letter than e: and create link, but this I don't want to do either.

Can I do it like this:
1) Change e-drive letter to x
2) Create new e-drive to another hard drive
3) Copy e-drive contents to new e-dive
4) that is it?

Can I use normal copy - paste to copy all files?
I think register references are the same after these steps because drive letter and content of the e-drive are still the same.

Does my method work? It sound so easy to do. Is it "too easy"? Does it have any risks?

Best regards
Laakspen

Answer:Move program files to another hard drive

Yes, it should as long as the drive letter is the same and also I would move instead of copy to retain the ownership of the files.

Hi,

Getting a new and larger hard drive, to replace existing C: Drive where my main operating Win XP (SP2) is located.

Could just rebuild, but as system is working fine (just a lack of drive space.) a pal suggested:

Temporarily take out my existing slave drive as it won't affect anything else as it contains non essential programmes.

Load the new hard drive as a slave. Then using a "Drive Image Programme" copy my existing C: Drive to the new slave.

Then replace the existing C: Drive with the new one. Obviously changing the jumpers to Master. Then put back in my old slave.

If you think this would work and be relatively simple can anyone reccomend a good, uncomplicated, simple Drive Image Programme to use. Freeware would be good but suspect i may have to buy.

Thanks

I've installed a program (Adobe Premiere Pro) onto an external hard drive and I'm trying to run that program on a different computer. When I try and run the program on the new computer it comes up with an error message telling me that the Registration is not valid and that I need to reinstall the program. Can anyone could tell me how to edit the registration code or how to fix my problem?

Answer:Running Program on External Hard Drive

That because the registry entries arent on the hdd. Have you done this before on a diferent pc and did it work?

I recently got a Solid State Drive to replace my other HDD & kept the HDD as a secondary storage drive.
Can I move the program files folders (Program files, Program files x86 & Prgram data)to the secondary drive to free up some space on the smaller SDD which has my windows installation on & Warcraft.
If I can, can I just drag & drop them?
I'm assuming I'll need to replace my desktop shortcuts as they won't follow the programs.

Answer:Move Program files to 2nd hard drive?

You will need to uninstall the programs you wish to remove from the SSD and then reinstall from the setup files to your secondary drive. Make sure you use custom install selecting the secondary drive path as your target for installation.
The reason you cannot just move the folders is that the program installations involve registry entries and by moving the folders these will be corrupted and the programs will not work.

Hello all,

I am wondering if anyone out there knows of a program/download/software, preferably on this website, that will do the scan my hard drives, log what is on them and show me how much space it all takes up, where the info is or something similar. Reason, I have so many files on my hard drive and I would like to see them all in some organized listing to choose what I want to keep and what to delete. My main concern is to log and locate all the mp3's that I have. They seem to be all over. I am running slow azz vista so have mercy on me.

Thanks everyone! :major

Is there a program that logs every registry entry and hard drive files when a new program is installed. I need a program that shows every instance of an install. I have UNINSTALLER on my computer, which indicates it will do this...but it seems to miss files from programs. Is there a way to log every, single entry??

Answer:Registry/hard drive logger program

Revo Uninstaller Pro have that feature.http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.htmlBasically, you want a program with an output like the one Metallica uses in his Malware Removal articles on Malwarebytes?https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/topic/177872-removal-instructions-for-splendor-search/#entry1015081Someone told me the name of that utility once, but I forgot it. I'll ask in the IRC tonight, if no one replied here by then.
