Preferred Solution: memory installation: what have I done wrong?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi. I am hoping you can help with an issue I am having with memory in my sons PC. It does not seem to be running as good since I installed 16gig of memory.

Motherboard - ASUSTeK Computer INC. M5A78L-M/USB3
Processor - AMD FX-4100 @ 3.60 GHz

It had 1 4gig stick of Kingston KVR1333D3N9 but I have upgraded to 16gig 4x4gig of Corsair Vengeance 1866MHz DDR3 Blue CMZ8GX3M2A1866C9B.

OK. When I was looking into this upgrade I read somewhere that if you have an AMD FX processor then this board will manage the 1866Mhz modules.

When I run tests I get a third of that speed. (If I am reading it right)

Geekbench 2 - Memory -Memory Performance 3595
Stream -Memory Bandwidth Performance 3727

CPU-Z - DRAM Frequency 669.7Mhz (IS THIS WHAT SHOULD BE READING 1866Mhz??)
NB Frequency 2009.1

Is this the wrong memory fr this board? There are no drivers for memory are there?!?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Memory speed - wrong memory???

CPUz is showing it running at 1333. The ram is DDR (double data rate) you double the figure you see in CPUz. Does your bios allow you to set the frequency, voltage and timings? Please Post a screenshot of CPUz showing the memory tab and the SPD tab.

Hey guys, I'm a total idiot.Just got hit by some odd Trojan 'cus I suck at internets, it appeared on my screen like it was installing, I immediately cut the power off, (yeah, I know, BAD IDEA,) but I was in panic. So as I turn my computer on, it counts my RAM, blah blah blah, and then it gives me some odd message. It says:CMOS Settings WrongCMOS Memory Size WrongPress F1 to go to SetpPress F2 for Default ValuesOr something alike the lines of that. I press F2 to see my Windows boot screen and I smile in joy, hoping I got through without any damage, as the boot screen dissapear and I expect my logon screen to appear my screen is suddenly covered by a grid of purple and green rectabgles, my screen goes black for a while and it finally logs in.I've been able to boot into my Widnows this way succesfully, (if you can call it that,) 4 times now, every time I get in my clock has been reset and the date is set to somewhere around April 2003. Also since this started it keeps wanting to update Windows XP (KB896428) even though I have done it several times now. It's like my computer resets to what it was long before. Plus, at certain websites I'm not able to log in, I'm bounced back to the log in page, this happened after I deleted my Cookies, is this related or a whole 'nother matter?Anyways---I'm seriously afraid something is horribly wrong with my computer, and that's probably the case, so does anyone have info on what this might be? And wh... Read more

Some background: I recently installed a new SSD on my Dell Studio PC and cloned my hard drive to the SSD so that Windows 7 would boot from the SSD. However, to do this, I needed to delete (after backup) a lot of files before cloning so that the drive would fit.
After having a lot of issues, including my back up software suddenly not recognizing backups etc, I finally managed to restore most of my files. Part of the process I followed was changing locations of some user files (such as My Pictures) to the old hard drive.
Anyway, I have had lots of issues with Windows since, with losses of icons etc and programs not working, some of which I have now seemed to have corrected by restoring some of my files in appdata folder. However, I've never been able to bring all these files back as I get messages saying some cannot be moved due to security settings.
Now, I am unable to open files such as explorer.exe and control panel! One message said that the username I was logged in as had prevented me from access.
This all seems bizarre and confusing to me and any help would be appreciated.
Nb: I'm detailing this all from memory whilst on a train so specifics could be a bit fuzy. I can check error messages etc when I get home if that helps.

Answer:Everything's gone wrong after SSD installation! Help!

Hello, I followed the steps in the page 5 of this document: The install_id it gives me is supposed to be like : 1249679, but I've got a number with 10 digits. When I try to input it in the site to have my license keys, it doesn't work. I used my local ip for the curl command (I have no internet connexion on my HP VM, maybe the problem is here?) Maybe I need a global ip for the registration, I don't know.

I'm re-installing Win 7 64bit from the Microsoft disc supplied with my computer, and have been following the clean install tut no.1649. All seemed well, but at point 16, when I had confirmed the timezone the next screen wasn't as shown, but the desktop (pic 18 of 19), and nothing else.
The screen resolution was was 800 x 600 and the best I can set it to via display is 1400 x 1050 when it should be 1920 x 1080. Also I am connected to the internet via an ethernet cable, but my screen is showing that there are no connections available.

I was obviously in trouble to re-install, and now feel I am deeper in the mire. Can someone please advise?

Answer:Installation gone wrong? - Help please

You followed the tutorial for Clean Install, ok?

Do you have the Graphics Card's Driver CD? Install the driver.

If you dont have, Go to AMD Graphics Drivers & Software, download the required display driver, and install it.

Everything will be OK, dont worry

We have a new Dell XPS that came with XP installed. One our techs messed up the installed version of XP (long story). She asked me to reinstall XP with the disk that came with the computer. While doing the install, I accepted the default installation location, which was evidently the "D" drive. Of course, Office and everything else is having fits b/c its looks for default paths on "C".

Is there anyway to move XP to the C Drive without doing a full reinstallation? (please tell me there is)

If I do have to do a full installation to get XP on C, how do I get it off of D?

Can I change the drive letters using the Disk Mgt Option (i.e. change D to C), and is this a good option?

Thanks in Advance!!

Answer:XP Installation on Wrong Drive

Eh, with that much going wrong, might as well wipe the drive and put it all back on the right way, you'll probably just run into little nitpicky things down the road if you don't.

If there's any data on there you need, back it up and wipe it.

I have a Dell Latitude D810 with Windows XP Pro SP3. A while ago I got a 60 day trial for Microsoft Office Professional 2007 from and it has expired. As a Christmas gift my family got me the Academic version of Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 with Accounting (for my parents).
I uninstalled the trial version of Microsoft Office Professional 2007 and installed the first disk of Microsoft Office Ultimate which installs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Groove, Publisher, Access, and InfoPath.
After I installed the first disk everything was running fine, but when I tried to install the second disk I recieved a message saying that the setup failed and it told me it had something to do with SQL Server. What is this? What does it do?
I thought that maybe I had to reboot my computer before I could do anything because I had installed the first disk. After rebooting, my computer said: "SQLDUMPER failed initialization your installation is either corrupt or it has been tampered with. Please contact the package vendor or uninstall then reinstall."
I can't uninstall Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 and so under the impression that I screwed the installation up somewhere I tried to use System Restore to go back before I uninstalled the trial version of Microsoft Office Professional 2007.
The restore was successful and I no longer recieved the message reading: "SQLDUMPER failed initialization your installation is either corru... Read more

Answer:New Software Installation goes Wrong!

I installed Windows 7 Pro and by lameness checked Ultimate. Now windows pops up as counterfeit.

I really don't want to remove all my files and programs to reinstall Pro so they don't get wiped. IF I purchase Ultimate and install over what Microsoft says is the counterfeit windows 7 Ultimate version, will Windows still recognize the proper 7 Ultimate install and/or will everything get wiped anyway.

Thank you.

Welcome Pauljay to the windows forums.

If you have installed the ultimate version and you then go to MS and pay for the ultimate version, all you should have to do is to enter the code into your registration and it should then validate and you should be ok. Otherwise, I believe that you better copy all the data and anything else you want to save to an external device and then do a boot of the dvd and delete the existing partitions and then reformat and install the correct version.
Calling microsoft might help as they will be glad to sell you the ultimate version but I think that the PRO version is probably more than most people would need.

I have an old install of XP left on an additional harddrive after I got a bigger drive and reinstalled... but now all of a sudden that's the only one it'll boot to! I had some other issues (caused, believe it or not by AVG).. and in the process of that I ran a repair installation over my new and proper XP.. with all the other drives disconnected.. and it was working fine, but as soon as I hook up the other drives... BLAM it's booting into the old install again. Now in disk management it's listed as the Boot Drive and the one that SHOULD be System is listed as active... i read something about making it active to make it boot from that drive... but it's not working.. what is the easiest way to modify where it boots from? I have been trying through the recovery console with fixmbr but that didn't work... i feel like there should be something more straightforward though!

note: the drive with windows that i want to boot off of IS listed first in the hdisk boot priority in the bios...

Answer:wrong installation of XP is booting

This may help:
Be sure your "Proper" boot drive is the one listed first in The BIOS boot order. The nomenclature can be confusing. For that matter, just switch the boot order and see what happens.

Hey, guys,

I was tryin' to install Windows 7 on my laptop when it came up with a Windows Error Recovery. It told me that windows had failed to start maybe because of a recent hardware or software change, and it also suggested me to fix the problem by inserting the installation disc. Unfortunately, the disc drive of my laptop could not work any more. I tried entering the safe mode but it told me that windows could not be installe at the mode. the Last known good configuration wouldn't work, either. Would anyone please let me know what the rpoblem is and what I can do? Thanks!

I just performed a clean install of win 8.1 (I couldn't take win 10 fonts anymore). All went fine but because I hadn't loaded Dell drivers yet, my wired internet wasn't working. So in order to connect with Dell and download drivers, I connected to my wireless.

No problem -- internet access worked fine and I was able to update all my Dell drivers. This caused my wired internet access to start working. It appears that the system made the wired connection my network (which I wanted) but it is still keeping my wireless router as the network name.

For example, if I display network connections, it shows Wi-Fi none; Wired Ethernet <name of my wireless router>

Is there anyway I can change that name??

Hi all, i have reinstalled the windows XP.
When i try to update the SP2 for the system, mircrosoft told me i am not using a right product key.

Then i follow the instructoin to download a KeyUpdate Tool and i put in the product key which under my notebook, it saids it is not the correct key for the windows that i am using.
At the compare product key site, it shows:

OS Version: Windows XP Professional
Manufacturer: TOSHIBA
Model: Satellite M60
Product Key: *****-*****-*****-*****-P6R2Y

It shows correctly the manufacture and the model.
However, i am using a Windows Xp Home Edition and the key from that CD is end with *****-*****-*****-*****-Q6JWG.
And the product key from my notebook is end up with *****-*****-*****-*****-GCFKM.

Then I download the Windows Product Key Update Tool and put in both the product key from the CD and notebook.
Both of them dosen't work. I want to know how can I update the Service Pack for my windows. Can anyone help? Thx!

What can i do for that? Thx!!!!!

Answer:Wrong Windows product key during SP2 installation

I have read some threads about similar problems with the OS key and the key changing has always helped?
Sometimes Microsoft rates the image keys as incorrect or invalid. Why? I don't know... it's Microsoft you know ;)

Fact is that the key on the CD cover can be used only to activate the installed Microsoft Works or OneNote software on the notebook. The key is not responsible for the Windows OS!
The key which could be used with Win OS is placed at the bottom of the unit.

Well, according to your message you used this key and now I?m a little bit confused?
I think you should make a call to the Toshiba authorized service provider in your country for clearing this problem?

This is my first post, and I did a quick search and didn't see my problem, so I hope I didn't look over something that was already in here.Okay, I have a Toshiba Satellite S-...something or other, that, up until yesterday, was running Windows XP. I bought a usb 2.0 pc mcia card, but it wouldn't install correctly because I apparently didn't have SP-1 installed. I tried to install sp-1, and then restarted. XP loaded, and I made it to the login page, and I got an error. I forget the exact message, but it was something to the effect that it couldn't verify windows or a license I think. I clicked okay, and tried to logon, but I just got the message again.Figuring I messed up the installation, I restarted in safe mode, and did a system restore.Upon rebooting, I found that this didn't help.>.> Then I tried to tell the system to use the last known good configuration. (I think that was kinda dumb now, but I was flailing. ;_;)I restarted, and I saw the os loader screen, then a really quick blue flash, and then the screen went black, and it shut down. It stated to restart on its own, and just went in a loop. Os screen for a bit, blue flash, black, restart. It does this when I try to start in safe mode as well.Obviously, I can get into the bios and such, I just can't get windows to start.I started in one mode (I don't know which one, sorry) and it said that I had Windows XP SP-1, so I guess the installation was at least partially successful.I have the system restore discs that came ... Answer:SP-1 installation gone wrong, now XP wont start

Alicia:Yeah, when i installed service pack 2 for the first time, Windows XP would not let me log on till i activated Windows again, because it was 40 days past the date i originally installed Windows XP.  You can try starting the computer with the system restoration CD and doing a repair installation (that is, if this option is available on the restoration CD).  Then, you can reinstall the service pack and activate Windows if you are connected to the Internet (or call the Microsoft phone number indicated if you are not). the option to do a repair installation is not available, the only way to get to your files is to connect the hard drive to another laptop (or to a desktop computer with a laptop-to-desktop adapter) as a slave drive and copying the files you want to the other computer, so you can then copy them to a CD-R or DVD-R or other removable storage media.Doc

I upgraded to Windows 10 a week ago. I noticed in Control Panel / Programs & Features that about 30 programs have an "Installed On" date of yesterday when they were actually installed ages ago and another 20 or so programs have an "Installed On" date of 10 June when I upgraded to Windows 10. The rest on the dates appear to be correct. this also happens on my laptop I did a clean install on a few months ago so it looks like a bug in Windows. It's actually quite irritating since I like to sort my programs by date just to see if anything has been installed recently without my knowledge.

What's going on and why isn't Windows showing the actual installation dates?

Answer:Wrong Program Installation Dates!

You will probably find that yesterday you had a significant W10 update which has reset the dates on a number of your programs.

Hi everyone,

My computer used to have an HDD running XP. Recently, I got a new HDD and installed Vista 64-bit Home Premium on it. Since it happened a little while ago, I'm not sure quite what happened during the installation. Right now, though the Windows folder and all the program files are on the new drive, I have to have the old drive first in the boot priority, else Vista won't start up. I may have had the old drive first in the boot queue when I installed Vista, but I don't remember.

If I go to the disk manager, the new HDD has (Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition) next to it. The old HDD has (System, Active, Primary Partition). So it seems that some basic system files got on the old drive, but everything else is on the new drive.

I would like to eventually format the old drive, but I'm pretty sure that I won't be able to run Vista anymore. Any ideas what happened and how to fix without everyone's favorite cure-all: reformat and reinstall? Is there someway to move whatever system files are on the old drive to the new drive without all sorts of pathing errors?

In case you need it, here are some basic specs:
Windows Vista 64-bit Home Premium, SP1
Old HDD: Maxtor MaXLine Pro 500 7H500F0, 500 GB
New HDD: WD VelociRaptor WD3000GLFS, 300 GB
MB: Asus M3A32-MVP

Thanks in advance for any help.

I bought a Toshiba Satellite A200. During the starting I made a fault.
First screen I choosed French. Second screen I would choose french again, but as it is my first notebook I am not used to the touchpad, I made an error and the starting was made in german.Actually on the screen :
Land/Region Deutschland
Zeit und Wahrung Deutsch
Tastaturlayout Deutsch

Is there a possibility to stop the starting and begin all again in french ?
I don't understand german and everything must be in french.
Thank you for help

Answer:Set wrong language during installation on Satellite A200

Hi there,

you can do the following things:

1. Recover the machine and repeat the procedure, but this time do it RIGHT and choose french.

2. You can go to start -> systemsteuerung -> (something with "Regions- und Sprachoptionen") -> there you should be able to exchange the languages but I am not sure how to do it, because I have just Vista on english.

Good luck

Hi, i use a home made pc and running win xp pro with sp2. I recently upgraded my hard drive with a 200gb one as the previous one i had was to small. After installation the bios see the drive as 200gb but windows sees it as only 127gb. The drive has only one partition and was formatted using the ntfs. Is there any way i could get windows to see the drive at its correct size so i could utilize the unused space?

Answer:Hard drive wrong size installation

Visit the hard drive manufacturer's website.  Most, if not all, of them have info on their sites about hard drive size limitation issues and how to overcome that.

I would be so grateful if someone could help with this basically I was trying to install drivers in win7 different to the ones windows wanted to install and to do so I read a thread on changing something in a policy I had to run a command which I now can't remember and need to change it back.
it was in gpedit.msc and the command read something like enable blocking windows automatic driver installation.
I have since found I could have done this simply in system... Bit late now huh

If anyone understands this vague description of what I've done.. Please let me know.
or if there is a way to set defaults back

I had all my files saved on the secondary Western Digital 160GB Sata HDD, it was listed first at the time... But I accidentally deleted the volume on it.. Is there a way to get those files back? I had photos, movies, music, some other important files. The whole reason for having them on that secondary drive was to save them (kicking myself), until I installed Windows 7 on the new 500GB Sata HDD... I got a copy of Paragon Partition Manager 11 Personal ... and going through the Undelete Partition wizard now... Any help? Suggestions? Thanks in advance!

PS. I just did the "delete" option in the Windows 7 installation section for "advanced options", the HDDs were there.. but I accidentally hit delete on the 160GB instead... That's all I did with the drive though.

Answer:Went through to Windows 7 installation, deleted wrong HDD volume..

To try and answer your question; yes and no. You can take the drive and try to have it professionally recovered. There are some companies out there that specifically recover data from these types of situations. This can be very expensive and no guarantee. I know this not what you wanted to here.

I have 3 hdd in my system and have made notations as to the location of each drive and how the OS see's each of 0 is hard drive 1, 1 is hard drive 2 and 2 is hard drive 3, which is the way I have mine installed in the hdd cage...I know that hdd 0 is the 1TB drive and hdd 1 and 2 are 320 GB for backups and data storage. Keeping in mind each drive letter that the OS assigns to each of them. So when a re-install of the OS comes along I know what hdd is what and where.

I currently have Java 8, update 25 (64bit). If I go to the Java website and want to verify java, nothing happens. When I want to print a coupon the coupon website (SmartSource) tells me "Java not installed" even though I meet the criteria for their "supported version" of the browser (IE10) and the operating system : Windows 7. I checked the Java control panel and it is enabled in the browser and the "allow scripting" is also on. This all happened fairly recently and I don't know why. I have uninstalled Java 8 update 25 (64 bit) and downloaded the offline version for a fresh start. It installed properly and it shows in my programs and features of windows. Still problematic. Any ideas?Thank you!message edited by geekiamnot

Answer:What is wrong with Java 8 update 25 (64bit) installation?

Looks like they've changed their minds recently, only a short while back it said that 8.25 was for developers and my 7.71 still says it is up to date. I suspect it makes little difference then - they are both dated Oct 2014. When it was working do you remember what version you had?If there are still old versions around they might cause issues but the Java uninstall Tool still requires you to verify so I doubt this will work either: assume the IE10 you are using is the 64 bit version. Any reason why you prefer not to go for IE11 - just wondering if that might fix it?There are some general tips here: that they say the 32 bit version gives fewer issues - maybe it is worth a shot.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanksmessage edited by Derek

Hello, wasn't really sure where to post this

Side note:this laptop was dropped or stepped on. ill explain in post.

So my buddy asked me to fix his toshiba and i have been having a great time. but sadly cannot get any operating system to load. Here follows the system specs, what ive done so far, and my main errors im receiving.
OS: windows 7 home premium bios version/date tosinv - insydeh20 version 1.50 12/15/09 system type x86 family 6 model 23 stepping 10 Proc: intel(r) core(tm)2 duo cpu t6500 @2.10 ghz MAIN PROBLEM HD: toshiba mk25555gsx

So i started off by using f8 to access windows boot command, would not run command prompt or repair.

So....I pulled out my personal windows 7 home premium disk to see if it would respond better to that repair menu or access the command prompt with the repair tools but everytime right before the installation menu it would hang up, similiar with the f8 command.

shortly after I received an error stating no valid devices are found and it would no longer read my windows 7 installation disk....system retry failed or something..

so I pulled out a box of old crap moved aside a yearbook and found an old windows 98 cd and precided to try cd booting with that which was a success.

so then i was messing with dos and deleted my partitions and fdisk exited right after...woops thought i would be able to recreate those parts....anyways it closed down and was no longer able to read the drive. prompting a> on start haha and a si... Read more

Answer:installation or hardware, you sorry if in wrong thread

so i go to the toshiba website and they say there is a hidden partition on the drive...maybe im in the wrong forum now....darn lol so i just tried to check this x drive for errors and it says its write protected. usb ports on the laptop are failing...

Hi guys this is my 3 thread in this day sorry about that lol
anyways i was chekin my memory n there was this big thing that made me mad with my cpu sell man ....i was suposed to have 256 of memory ram installed but somehow the progrfam i run only can detet about 224 ram there a way i can activate the other32 ram left or missin ................please help im new at this n have pacience with me ...

thank u

oh here is my memory results

Answer:wth is wrong with my memory

The other 32mb of ram is used by your VIA S3G Unichrome IGP as it is a on board graphic solution it shares its memory ( Ram ) from the system ram.

and can you gain 256mb system ram back, no as then you have no graphics!

Is your PC a laptop? if yes, best bet is to see your sales man and see if another 256mb or more can be fitted.

hiduring boot up my bios reads my memory at a fsb of 166 i would like to know how to get it to run at 333 fsbHere are my system specs.. M/B Asus A7N8X Deluxe ver 2.0 Bios Rev1005Amd Athlon 2600XP 512MB PC2700 DDR-333 Ram (crucial)120GB 7200RPM HDD Geforce FX 5200 128MB Graphics

Answer:memory has got the wrong fsb

The setting is correct - DDR means Double Data Rate - which means you RAM actually runs at twice the real FSB frequency - ie 2x166 = 332

I got some ram off ebay. It was a stick of 128mb 168pin DIMM SDRAM and I put it in a HP pavilion 6545C. Turns out the stick was made by newerRam (a mac ram manufacturer). The ram worked for 1 month on the PC without any problems. I ended up replacing the ram stick with 2 other micron sticks. This is where my problem is though. I didn't realize it was a mac ram stick until after I took it back out.

I gave the ram stick to a friend to upgrade his compaq presario 5200 series (not sure of the exact model, its 400mhz processor). Since it was put in, the boot time of his computer is about 5 minutes and he always gets kicked off from his AOL dial up every couple of minutes as well. I believe it is the ram that I gave him....

I am not sure exactly why mac ram would work in my HP pavilion but not in his compaq presario. Is newerRam (mac ram) compatible with PC's?

Answer:wrong memory in PC? (mac ram in PC)

The problem with HP and Compaq is that they have this nasty habbit of only using a prapriatory ram module. Especially in their old machines. They normally change some thing in the voltage just so you can not install standard rams modules in.

Question: Wrong Memory ?

Board: K7S41GX 1.0BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. P2.00 10/28/2004My motherboard is supposed to support PC2700 DDR 333MHz memory I have 2Gb of Pc3200 DDR 400 Mhz is this ok or could this explain the occasional BSOD

Answer:Wrong Memory ?

The 3200 memory will run OK but at the reduced speed of 333mhz.First download Memtest and run that, it is best to run it at overnight as it takes a long time.If it is two seperate sticks try running it with one and see what happens, if it runs OK take that one out and try the other one.

I just bought (on eBay) 1G of RAM to try to upgrade my PC. It is 256MB/16 ECC PC800-45. The seller had this listed for a Dell Dimension 8200 8100 as well as a bunch of other models using 400mhz FSB, including my Dell Precision Workstation 340 (400mhz FSB).
When I started the computer it halted with a message stating "Unsupported Memory, replace with RDRAM PC800-40ns or faster.
The memory that is in my PC is 256MB/8 ECC PC800-40, did I get the wrong type? Is it the 45 vs. 40 ns that made the difference.

Answer:Is this the wrong Memory??

In case of RDRAM then yes, it needs to be exactly the same type and density and matching pairs to work.

How many modules did you buy was it 2 matching pairs and if so whats the full codes on the side of the memory module include make (eg Samsung etc)?

So in your PC you have 2 x 256MB/8 ECC PC800-40 to make up 512mb of ram?

How did you install them in what setup, as you "could" possibly be able to mix them but they may need to be installed in a specific order. The matched pairs need to be say the 40ns in RIMM 1 and 2 and the 45ns in RIMM 3 and 4.

RDRAM is fussy as hell stuff, know this from experience as I still have a RDRAM based PC lying around.

Question: Wrong Memory?

I've always felt like there was something wrong with my systems memory or something along those lines. I've been reading up information on memory but some of its getting confusing. Can one of you tell me if I have the right type of memory for my computer? I have a
Intel Pentium 4, 3000 MHz (15 x 200) Intel Springdale i865PE chipset
Asus P4P800-E Deluxe (5 PCI, 1 AGP, 1 WiFi, 4 DDR DIMM, Audio, Gigabit LAN, IEEE-1394)

1)Kingston ValueRAM 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200)
1)OCZ Revision 3 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200)
2x)CORSAIR XMS 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200)

I know I'm suppose to have DDR 400 but arn't I suppose to have dual channel? How do I know if I have that or not? Can mixing the different brands of memory affect my performance? Or maybe my memory is getting too much voltage because my AI booster says my memory is getting 2.75 volts and when I read the specfications on this memory I have it says the voltage is 2.6. I know my PSU (APEVIA ATX-AS520W-BK ATX 520W) isn't that great maybe its been slowly killing my memory? I've had this computer for 2-3 years now.

Answer:Wrong Memory?

I bought some KByte 512 sticks...4200/3200 PC2 533/400.

My question is...Will that run at full potential. My M 725 processor is 1.6 GHz, 400 MHz FSB.

It seems that my FSB will run slow in comparison to the 533/400 memory modules, is that correct?

I have a new pc and I installed windows 10 64 bit, it went well but there were a few thing I wasn't sure about, one being that the time was wrong and would not correct itself

In the end I decided to reinstall windows as it was very quick the first time, when I got to the part about which drive /partition to install to there was drive 0 and drive 1, I have 2 drives: an m.2 ssd and a sata HDD, the m.2 ssd is the system drive. It was cut up into about 4 partitions I think so I just deleted them all and then tried to proceed, windows wouldn't let me install and after searching online for solutions I unplugged the other HDD and windows let me install on to the ssd (I don't understand this because there was no problem having the other drive installed before).

there are 2 things I would appreciate some advice with:

1: The time is still wrong and I don't know why

2: I now have a clean installation of windows 10 64bit again, in disk management it shows 1 partition for my system drive, I expected there to be multiple partitions like before, is this right that there is only one?

Thank you

Answer:installation partition question and wrong time after install

If you post a screen shot of disk management then we'll tell you why.

I assume this is not possible anymore.
As far as I know the other languages are locked or deleted and you will be able to chose only the Dutch as language.

If you need the recovery disk in French then you will have to order it from this page:

Hi all, I have an R61 laptop that I purchased 2 summers ago and, for Windows 7, I wanted to make the jump from 2gb of ram to 4gb.  However, when I went through my account to find the RAM upgrade, I was told to buy DDR2 PC5300 667mhz RAM.  I was under the impression that my T8100 processor had an 800mhz (DDR2 PC6400) FSB.  I looked at my original build list and the PC5300 is what it is installed, but could/should I have those swapped out for PC6400? Thanks.

Go to Solution.

Answer:Wrong memory speed for an R61

Hi jmh636, Welcome to the Lenovo forum.  The R61 is built on the GM965 "Crestline" chipset, which supports 800 MHz FSB, and 667 MHz DDR2 RAM. The definitive source for hardware specs of your system is ltwbook.pdf, available from Lenovo's PSREF page (scroll down and select Withdrawn products). Best regards,Frank

Question: Memory wrong size

I have just recently suffered a pc failure, the system was completely dead.
thought it was the power supply, but it wasn't and then thought it must be the motherboard so went and got the ASUS M3N72-D and same problem no fans no post, so took out all the expansion slots including memory and got post as my friend suggested it could be a video card, and it was, 8500 gt one of two that were SLI.

I reinstalled Vista x86 sp1 int and fully updated through Win update and had some driver issues so had to scrap that install and start over, all the specs looked normal untill my second install then saw system memory went from 2 gigs to 1.7... ? ( 2 one gig OCZ gold DDR2 800) did a third install of Vista and still the same..

went through the BIOS and found nothing had been changed other than I turned the on board video to run Hybrid SLI wich slows my system worse than having just the one 8500 by it's self and lowers the vista score from 5.0 to 4.4 now.

any idea's why the System ram is only reading 1.7 instead of 2 gigs?

I have all the latest drivers from Nvidia and asus

Answer:Memory wrong size

Hybrid sli on that board is using your graphics card in conjunction with your onboard graphics. The .3 gb of memory missing is being used by onboard graphics.

Let XP run your virtual memory, you don't need to mess with it. And don't listen to posts on the internet telling you to change it, a lot of this is just from people who don't really know much about virtual memory.

Try running a memory diagnostic tool with both the memory modules installed - click here to get the tool. It can take a LONG time to complete. Make sure all your cables are secure inside the case & seat the main power cable firmly & fully into it's slot. The second memory slot may be damaged & so making an insufficient/intermittent connection. When you post again please provide your OS, type of memory, PSU power output, & mobo make & model.

Question: Wrong Memory speed

I just finished building my new christmas pc . It runs great, but the only problem is that my memory is supposed to be DDR3 1600, but when I boot my pc on the black screen ( BIOS post? Something like that ) it says something like DRAM 800. My Motherboard supports up to DDR3 1333.

So my question is, how do I overclock this memory to 1333?
On the stickers on the side of the sticks it says 9-9-9 @ 1.65v, which is the latency I think.

This is my memory.

Answer:Wrong Memory speed

Download and run CPU-Z and go to the "memory" tab. (this is a handy app to have anyway)

Make sure the memory is in "dual channel" mode and if it's 800Mhz dual channel, you have 1600Mhz RAM.

You can also go into the BIOS...if you built the computer, you will know how to get into the BIOS. There will be memory configuration options there. Make sure you are at the right speed and voltage.

However, your POST screen "should" be showing 1600Mhz. Most POST screens I have seen tell you the actual speed. You could try using the "pause-break" key to stop the POST so you can have a look at it. Use the "print-scrn" button to continue with the POST.

Hi, I've just recived my new memory today and installed it and I could'nt get a video signal. The exact message was " No Signal
Analog Signal out

I didn't know what the heck was going on. I thought my ram was defective. but then I took a closer look at the ram and it turns out Zoomfly sent me the wrong one. I have two ram slots on my motherboard the ram that I already had says
VS512MB400 on the white sticker. The new one zoomfly just sent me says VS512MB400C3. I'm not able to boot up using both chips at the same time but I am able to if I only use one of them. Dose my memory not work because of the different Cas Latency of the new chip? Is the any way I can get both chips to work together? just sent me the wrong memory.

Go into bios and set the mem timings lower and see if it will run both sticks. Then you should probably run memtest86 to verify that they are error free in your system. This is a good idea just for general maintenance.

its because its DDR (double data rate) meaning it does double the work in 1 clock so the rating is double the frequency

I bought an ideapad z510 which was advertised to be 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600MHz (PC3 12800).  I ran multiple hardware specs softwares such as CPUZ, Speccy, etc... All of them say my memory frequency is 800Mhz instead of 1600Mhz.

Answer:Wrong Memory Frequency

It's correct. Speccy, CPU-Z and others read the speed of each of the RAM modules. The reason you see the frequency is 1/2 of the rated speed is due to "Double Data Rate" (i.e. the bandwidth (measured in Mega Transfer per seconds) is 2x the frequency of the RAM). DDR3 1600 means the chip running at 800 MHz can achieve a theoretical transfer rate of 1600 MT/s. Read more here

I can fix it;however, it's a fairly large operation to change all the settings manually everytime I restart. I installed the memory interleave enabler then I must use tweakbios to enable the correct settings on a VIA MVP3(4) chipset to achieve decent bandwidth and timing. I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 15? 7000 series laptop for my niece for Christmas. After struggling with it I reformatted and reinstalled the os and put in a m.2 ssd. The attached picture is the memory module in the machine. I noticed the machine was sluggish and sometimes it just hung even before I put the m.2 in.
It looks like to me this machine has 8gb of DDR3/1600 memory vs DDR4/2400 it was advertised to have. I did buy this at Amazon but before I returned it I?d love validation the the attached picture is of DDR3/1600 memory

My toshiba equium A60 have only 448 mb ram, it shoukd have 512 what i can do?

Message was edited by: tommaz

Answer:Equium A60: Wrong memory value appears

In my opinion the lower memory value appears in the OS properties because of the 64MB shared memory graphic card.
This graphic card use a part of the main memory and therefore you will get a different memory value.

If you add the 64MB to the 448MB you will get 512MB. So everything is ok with you memory modules.

My daughter accidentally put the memory card from my camera into the CF/microdrive slot in my computer. It fell in b/c the slot is much bigger than the one for the memory card. I tried tilting to see if it would fall back out but no luck. Is there a way to get it out without  harming the computer and how hard will it be to do this? also, if not taken out can it hurt if it stays in there? I have been trying to get a answer to this problem since 10pm last night and I can't seem to get any solutions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.   thanks!!

Answer:how to get a memory card that was put into wrong place????

I'm looking at my old card reader.  It probably went up and over the CF slot and dropped down behind the slot and is trapped inside the case.  If you want to retrieve the memory card, you'll have to pull the drive out and open it up.  The reader/drive is mostly empty space.  If you don't care about retrieving the card, tip the computer backwards, so the card falls into the space and does not contact the circuit board inside.

Answer:CMOS Memory Size Wrong

by replacing the CMOS battery, or even by resetting the CMOS state. The battery is the round silver one that's about the size of a 10p coin - usually it's a CR2025 type, and available from pretty well any supermarket's bettery stand. Just open the computer's case and take a look at the motherboard - the battery is very easy to spot. Just ease it out of its retaining clips and slip the new one in - make sure to get it the same way up as the old one.Alternatively you could slip out the existing battery, wait for a couple of minutes and slip it back again. This action will drain the CMOS state and when you boot you should automatically load the default. Best to put in a new battery while the case is open though. If that doesn't fix the problem come back here for a rethink.

Ive got a bit of a head scratcher here. First some background;

I was on a quest to upgrade my storage server. Picked up a Pentium III 1ghz for cheap along with a stick of pc133 256mb. This computer was running a PIII 550 overclocked to 616, with 768 mb of ram.

I threw the new processor and ram in there, and decided to add a pci bus tweak at the same time, then i turned it on and prayed lol. I allready figured out that the pci bus tweak was the cause of my system instability. But now i have wierd ram problems. The computer came up fine the first time i set it right, and was fine for hours afterwards. But after about 6 hours or so the system will hard freeze, upon reboot it reports a ram size that is a good 2 to 3 times below what it should be. If i restart a few times, I will get sizes anywhere from 2xx, to 6xx mb. If i turn it off for a few minutes, fiddle with the ram a bit, it usualy goes back to reporting its full size again, and will run find untill its next freeze where it will go back to reporting a lower number of ram. I have played with it a bit, switching out pieces of ram. I thought i had a problem stick pointed out and i took it out. But now its back to the same problem again.

This old board is fully loaded. Current specs:

Hello there,

I am new here so here is my Question. I have upgraded my Tecra S5-13N Memory today . Installed 2 DDR2 667MHz 2GB So Dimm but I am not sure it detects the correct Mhz.

Here is what I get from CPU-Z

SMBus address 0x50
Memory type DDR2
Module format SO-DIMM
Manufacturer (ID) Kingston (7F98000000000000)
Size 2048 MBytes
Max bandwidth PC2-5300 (333 MHz)

In the specifications of the Laptop it says the following
standard : 2,048 (1,024 + 1,024) MB
maximum expandability : 4,096 MB
*technology : DDR2 RAM (667 MHz)* <---

I have made a BIOS Upgrade but still the same. Is there anything i missed while upgrading?

Thank You.

Answer:Tecra S5-13N - Wrong memory speed

Which modules have you installed exactly or let?s say what the exact part number of them is?

Generally these tools like CPU-Z or something else are not so important. If everything runs well, forget this. ;)

Hi. Im a Spanish user of IBM/Lenovo ThinkCentre 8188 KGF. At first i had 1.5 Gb of RAM and I decided to install four ddr400 1gb modules. I quitted all old ones at once and then replaced all modules in one time. At attempting to boot, i got the some beeps but it couldnt boot So I uninstalled the new modules again and reinstalled them one by one, and it worked perfectly detectyng except when the size is bigger than 3gb. In that case, memory checked in the post is 3.25GB (3306 mb or so) instead of 4Gb. I thought it was a BIOS problem so I updated, but i get the same memory size error. Its like it detects a module as a 256 mb (but memtest and other applications shows addresses of full 4gb, but i think it hangs while trying to access them).Im using a NVIDIA FX 5950 AGP and WinXP/Ubuntu 8.10. Both OS says that modules are ok and 1gb each. BIOS Video settings are 4mb aperture size, 64mb System shared memory, and AGP is enabled. BIOS doesn't show any option that says that the on board video card is off, but i think that it is. If i change system shared memory to 256, POST detects 2.75Gb of RAM.Please help.

Ok, so im running this RAM -
times 2. In everest its saying
Field Value
DIMM1: OCZ OCZ26671024VP 1 GB DDR2-667 DDR2 SDRAM (5-5-5-12 @ 333 MHz)
Field Value
DIMM3: OCZ OCZ26671024V 1 GB DDR2-667 DDR2 SDRAM (5-5-5-15 @ 333 MHz) (4-4-4-12 @ 266 MHz) (3-3-3-9 @ 200 MHz)

i dont really understand it, but the speeds and latencies all dont match. Ideas?

Answer:Memory speeds, whats gone wrong?

For the DIMM3 stick, the 1st bracketed values indicate what it is running at, while the 2nd and 3rd ones indicate other possible speeds and their corresponding timings.

And the discrepancies between DIMM1 and DIMM3 probably just indicate different batches of the RAM. Did you buy the 2 sticks at different times?

Shared system memory is dynamic, it changes with how you use it.

Because of the extensive use of graphics in the Windows Vista and later desktop and DirectX games, software that runs on Windows Vista and later should be able to accurately determine the amount of available graphics memory. WDDM manages the virtualization of graphics memory in itself and also ensures accurate reporting of various aspects of graphics memory. Application developers and software vendors should take advantage of the DirectX version 10 APIs for retrieving the accurate set of graphics memory values on computers that have Windows Vista display drivers.

I just upgraded my Compaq laptop from 512mb pc2700, 333MHz DDR sdram (2-256mb sticks) to 1,280 mb (as shown in "system information") by removing 1 256 mb stick and adding a 1 gig stick. To make sure it was working properly, I ran Memtest 86+. It reports the memory settings as 132MHz (DDR 264), rather than what I expected -- 166MHz (DDR 333). The wimpy Compaq bios has no place to change the settings. Should my memory be running at these settings , is Memtest in error, or is there some other software that is downloadable to make changes?

Answer:Laptop Memory settings wrong?

Having 2 memory sticks with different clock speeds can lower it. Try removing the other 256mb card and see what it says.

I used a program called CPU-z to check my memory configurations and for the ram it is 8GB with 667MHz max bandwith. When i ordered the computer it was supposed to have 1333MHz as its max bandwith. Then my CPU is a Intelģ Core? i7-720QM Processor ( 1.60GHz 1333MHz 6MB ) but the speed that it is operation on is only 133MHz. I feel that Lenovo has messed up my order and i wish for an answer on whether i am correct or incorrect on the matter

Go to Solution.

Answer:Lenovo gave me the wrong the memory

Is it your RAM frequency that is showing as 667MHz?  It's DDR (dual data rate) memory, so the bandwidth is double the frequency.   Bus speed of 133MHz is also correct, if that's where you are seeing the 133MHz. Maybe post a CPU-z screenshot to clarify? Z.

Hey guys.
So I live in Ireland and when installing Windows 8, I set some language choices to Irish (keyboard and date/time), but language to English UK. In previous installations of Windows, such as Windows 7, this did not make apps show up with Irish language titles.
After removing Ireland from the Language options > Control Panel - Language, some apps went back to displaying in English. But other Modern UI apps, like the news still show up in Irish titles.
Have I missed a setting of some sort? I have attached a screenshot of my language options, just in-case i'm missing something.
PS: I have already rebooted a few times since changing these options.
EDIT: Fixed. The latest batch of Windows updates seems to have kicked it back into English. Thanks anyway!

I hope someone can help. Just purchased the L30-101 with vista home basic and 512ram (ddr2 pc2 4200). The specs say it can take up to 2 gig with a max of 1 gig per slot.

Went to Crucial ram website and used there memory advisor tool to source a compatible 1 gig stick for the other slot, and purchased a 1 gig stick (ddr2 pc2 4200). This was put into the laptop but instead of showing 1.5 gig of ram it was only showing just over 900MB - so it was recognising the new stick and using a small part for shared graphics etc but was totally ignoring the original 512 stick.

I have tried swapping over to opposite slots but still get the same result. Also tried the two sticks separately and work fine on their own but when both inserted only the 1 gig stick seems to be recognised. Is this a compatability issue?

Ive tried contacting crucial themselves but as yet have had no reply, so thought I'd try and pick someones brains on here.

Any ideas anyone?

Answer:Satellite L30-101: system shows wrong memory value

It's a compatibility problem, I think you should get a new memory.

Sometimes it's a problem if you use different modules (size, brand, speed).
Usually these problems come forward if you have a noname memory.

You should buy another 1gb module instead the 512ram or replace the 1gb stick with a new one.

I heard about a user how has Samsung 512mb and Kingmax 1gb ram in his L30 and everything is fine, he has no problem with it.
I have two 512mb Samsung modules and have no problem.

I never touched the processor or anything else and i don't do any overclocking. Help! I can only boot into safe now...

hi there all, im running a dual boot configuration with xp64 and vista 64 ultimate i have just updated my processor to dual core amd 64 4400.
wonder if any any 1 can help me out please? i have just flashed my bios (had to do this to get vista to recognize new processor dont ask but it works now) Cant work out how to change my bios setting to say ddr400
ihave 4 strips of ddr 400 installed and when i boot up screen comes up ddr333 i have never had problem before till flashed bios! im running a dfi infinity nf4 sli motherboard but cant figure out what setting in my bios to change to get it to say ddr 400 instead of ddr333. my pc keeps freezing randomly in vista with a clean install but when i boot into xp64 it runs fine.
Please help thank you.

Answer:Memory problems !!bios detecting wrong ram

There is not a significant detectable difference between DDR333 and DDR400.
Does it work ok otherwise?
You might want to try flashing the BIOS one more time to see if it will accept the BIOS update. Often the motherboard will reject the flash if the BIOS is the same.

I just installed 8800GTS 320MB and downloaded the latest driver for Vista 32bit from NVIDIA's website. In the adapter section it shows the following:

Chip Type: GeForce 8800GTS
DAC Type: Integrated RAMDAC
Adapter String: GeForce 8800 GTS
Bios Information: Versio 60.80.d.0.1

Total Available Graphics Memory: 1023 MB
Dedicated Video Memory: 256 MB
System Video Memory: 0 MB
Shared System Memory: 767 MB

Now when I dual boot into XP and install the latest XP driver, it shows this:

Chip Type: GeForce 8800GTS
DAC Type: Integrated RAMDAC
Memory Size: 320 MB
Adapter String: GeForce 8800 GTS
Bios Information: Version 60.80.0D.00.01

Does that mean that Vista is not seeing the card memory as it should? Before this I had GeForce 6800GT 256MB, and I uninstalled the driver using windows control panel before installing the new one, could it be that it is not completely gone or something? I know Vista reports video memory differently from XP, but I would think that the 320MB would show up somewhere...

Also, the card works just fine. I played Company of Heroes that came with the card, and the game worked fine on my system, getting well over 30FPS with everything at max, with AA turned on at 1600x1200.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
