I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
With the impending closure of off-line support for W98/98SE (end June '03), if my HDD crashes I will not be able to restore the updates from Microsoft after reloading Windows. I believe there's a link to Microsoft to enable you to download all the updates in one go so you can burn them to a CD for future use. Does anyone know the link, 'cos I can't find it on the MS site?
For the main corporate patches :click hereBut better for you is via the Windows Update:click hereHere you need to select the Windows Update Catalogue and you will be able to save all the patches as required.
4 more repliesHello,
This is my first post on here so I apologize if this has been asked already. I work for a company that makes tablets that have windows 7 professional x32 installed. At times we have to re-image the tablet. The image does not include any windows 7 updates on it and as were kinda low on the totem pole I don't see that being changed any time soon for our convenience. Me and some of the other Techs working in the shop were looking for a way to install all the windows 7 updates at one time without having to monitor it all day long constantly restarting between updates. It can sometimes take a full 8 hour day to get all the updates installed on one tablet because we are not able to monitor them at all times so there is a lot of down time of it waiting to restart.
Basically what I am asking is there a way to put all windows 7 updates on a flash drive or a program online that will automate the windows update process with a fresh install of windows 7?
Thanks for any help.
Hello 7 user and welcome to Seven Forums.
You might be able to accomplish what you want with Sysprep. Or an advanced type of slipstreaming. Or see the suggestions in a prevous Seven Forums thread.
What is Sysprep?

EDIT: The brianleejackson link in the previous Seven Forums thread is broke. This is the updated link:

I'm with a computer service company and we do format/re-installs on a regular basis. Part of that process, as you know, is installing 100+ Windows updates for Windows 7 machines.
Isn't there a way I can download a "pack" of ALL of the updates so I can keep them on a Flash Drive and install them WITH EASE instead of having to manually download and install all 100+ updates for each and every computer? Updates have
been taking up SEVERAL HOURS lately for all of the machines we do a format/re-install on.
There has to be a better, faster way.
I was wondering if there is something out there that will inventory all my installed apps and allow me to perform a mass update? I remember seeing something like this a while ago but don't recall what it was called. Any ideas? Thanks.
There are utilities like PSI: http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/
The download location of updates change so it's not really practical for a program to know where each version of thousands of different programs currently exist.
There is a case, where i have bulk of user names and bulk of flat files(.txt files). I have to search each and every user name in all the flat files and if the user found it should picked up. I have to repeat this for all the user names. Is there any possibility of doing this in an easier way.. Please help..
More repliesAs the title says, I have problems with Windows Update. I tried some fixes like: Reset_Reregister_Windows_Update_Components, Reset_Windows_Update_History, MicrosoftFixit50362 (which is a Microsoft Installer Fixer that couldn't install PowerShell), MicrosoftFixit50202. But what I really need is installing .NET Framework 4. I tried forcing it to install, installing it step by step, but it couldn't go further than .NET Framework 3.5. I need that Framework, the other updates don't really matter. And the interesting thing is that my antivirus doesn't say that Windows is not up-to-date, which is not normal, in ESET Smart Security, if Windows is not up-to-date.

Hi antoniu200:
Many other Vista users have reported that Windows Update seems to get stuck at "Checking for updates..." for long periods of time, and this problem dates back to the August 2015 Patch Tuesday updates - see my screenshots in ScousaJAY's thread windows update just seems to hang while checking in the VistaForums. This month's December 2015 Patch Tuesday updates required a full hour on my machine before it finished the "Checking for updates..." phase and finally presented a list of available updates, so you might want to try running a manual Windows Update and leaving your computer alone for an hour or so to see if it eventually runs to completion.
You might also want to read Nikilet's recent thread Updates were not configured correctly in that same forum. Some Vista users, including myself, received an error message this month stating "Updates were not configured correctly. Reverting changes. Please do not turn off your computer" when they tried to install the December 2015 Patch Tuesday updates. Six updates for the Vista OS and one cumulative update for IE9 were marked as "Failed" on my machine after Windows forced an automatic rollback and re-boot of my machine. I re-ran Windows Update today and all Important updates that failed yesterday eventually installed successfully ("Checking for updates..." still took about one hour and I declined one Recommended update KB3112148 for Vista and one Optional update KB3106614 for Silver... I recently (one week ago) made myself a dual-boot to Windows Vista SP2. I installed everything I needed and set the Windows updates to Automatically install updates. When I needed to make a video smaller (no need to talk about this in this thread) on Handbrake it said I needed Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0. I was surprised to see that. I went to see what Windows updates does and it wasn't checking for updates, as I set it to do. I started the check myself. I left it like that 30 minutes. When I closed my game, it was in the same state: checking for updates. So, I went to my .NET Framework 4 installer and, after 15 minutes, it gave an error: another installer is running. There were no installers, besides Windows update. So, I closed its process and let the installer run. After 15 minutes, it gave me an error (I don't remember the name of the error, I'll post it ASAP). So, I started researching, tried everything (MS FIXIT 50202, reset windows update history, reregister windows update components which gave me error 1060 and error 5 - error 5 is after trying MS FIXIT). I tried to "force" the .NET Framework 4 install by installing it step-by-step: 1.1 1.1 SP1 3.5 4. No succes. I AT LEAST need to install that .Net Framwork somehow. And the most interesting part is that my antivirus doesn't say that my OS is not up-to-date . SPECS: 6GB RAMAMD Athlon ll X4 750K 3.2-4.0 GHzAMD Radeon R7 240 4GB GDDR3
Now it doesn't even give the error anymore. It just sits there and fake-installing .Net Framework.
14 more repliesOccasionally, I find a need to copy files from one disk to another and when I do, must answer "yes" or "no" when asked whether I want to replace a newer or older file.
This is not bad for a few files but if a few hundred files are involved, it would be nice to have a program or way to tell it to automatically replace older files.
Anyone know of a way to do this or a program that will do it.
Thanks
I'm trying to add the latest updates on my Windows 8 (64-bit) laptop (Asus Q400A-BHI7N03) and the checking for updates... never completes. I've even tried leaving it over night with no success.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

MS Defender updates from Windows Update in settings fail, other Updates successful, but MS Defender from Control panel can update the same definition updates without problems (why, oh, why? can't I just select and copy from settings? )

SFC and Dism component store health fix report no problems
Any Ideas?

This girl on our floor is getting all of the symptoms of the good ole blaster worm and it's 1 minute to reboot issues. I figured I could just windows update until I fix it.
So I install the updates. They install fine, no errors, and windows update says they're installed. Reboot, the same updates are listed. Try once again, and again it says the same ones are listed after I reboot. So I try through automatic updates, and, once again, the same thing. The updates just aren't installing besides saying that they are installed.
I then download the stand-alone blaster worm patch. Run it, and right after I click "I Agree" and hit next, the window just closes, no errors or anything. Try again, same thing. Try in safe mode, same thing.
I've never had a problem with this before, does anyone have any recommendations?
I had the same thing on a system I was working on. I ran Spybot and Ad-aware and cleaned off so much crap... But I had to let Spybot start at reboot to catch the app-killer. Try that and see if you can get those updates to take. It may be some nastiness in the box. Umm, no pun intended.
i upgraded from win 7 to win 10 in early august. no problems. i've been installing all updates since then and installed updates always showed status of updates. after installing fall update i noticed my update history was erased and any updates since, like defender definition files, don't appear in the list. only one update is listed: Security Update for Internet Explorer Flash Player for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3103688) installed on 11/14/2015.
I have exactly the same problem; no update history except the flash one.
4 more repliesT460p here. After I updated my Windows 10 to Fall Creator Update - Lenovo System Update Shows 11 Updates that are already installed - so it want's to install the same drivers over and over again. Probably a bug. Anyone with the same experience?
More repliesSo, I don't really know any details of what malware I may have on my computer other than its symptoms and the likelihood that it came through utorrent (which has since been taken off the computer). Basically, the problem began manifesting itself with the BSOD in Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit. I think I have taken care of that problem. The remaining symptoms of the malware are that windows and windows defender cannot update itself. Also, I cannot download any type of anti-virus update software or even the programs themselves. The updates just say they were unsuccessful. When I attempt to do a manual install/update of anti-virus or windows updates I get a "cannot connect to webpage". Sometimes, I will be redirected from an anti-virus download site to a random unaffiliated site. When I attempt to run a free online virus scan, the update will not work and therefore there is no ability to scan.
Thanks for whatever help you can offer. Eric

I would like to delete the failed updates list in Windows 7 Update. I have done this in the past but forget exactly the process.
I think you go to Windows Folder-Software Distribution. After deleting everyhting in the folder., i think you are to restart the computer. Once finished the list of updates in Windows Update will be cleared.
Please correct if I am wrong. Thanks in advance for your assistance.
This is the way I suggest :
Go to start > type in cmd > right click at cmd.exe > Run as Administrator.
Type in "net stop WuAuServ" without quotes > hit enter.
Type in "start %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore" without quotes > hit enter. A folder will come up. Don't close that black window.
Rename file "DataStore" to "DataStoreold" without quotes.
Go to that black screen, Type in "net Start WuAuServ" without quotes > hit Enter. After it finished you can close it.
Now your Windows Update logs will now cleared.
Thank you.
I'm currently on holiday and am connected through an expensive 3G modem plan. Whenever I try to connect, Windows update starts to download files. Every now and then I need to update MSE virus defs but Windows update downloads files GRR! What do I do about this pest? I just disabled the windows update service which obviously prevented me from downloading MSE defs
Have you tried setting Windows Update to not Download updates?
You could also set it to not check for updates while you are on holiday.
For MSE definitions, open MSE and update from there.
After installing Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade on a new seagate 320 g hdd on a Toshiba L300 Laptop with 32 bit that had Vista with latest SP on a 120gb hdd.then installing the sp1, the windows updater will not download and install updates. As it was I had to manually download the sp1 to a flash drive from my desktop and put it on the laptop. No problems there, but was hoping it would solve the Update problem, but didn't. I get the "Fail" error codes. 1. 80070570 and 2. 8007001F. I have 52+ KB updates and not one of them will download and install. Called MS help and for two days they had me try different things. They even took control of the computer and couldn't figure it out. I checked memory and did a chkdsk on the new HDD. In desperation for trouble shooting I put the Vista HHD back in and ran updates with no problems at all then I reinstalled the 320 G HHD. I didn't have a BSOD at all. But I downloaded and installed Microsoft Security Essentials and when I did that I would get the BSOD for what ever reason. I had a hard time getting it uninstalled because as soon as you would start windows, within a few seconds I would get the BSOD. When I finally got the Security Essentials uninstalled the BSOD Went away. Have no Idea what one had to do with the other. I just want to get the updater to work. Any Help
Thanks

Which computer do you want to install Win 7 on?
Do you have license?
One license = 1 machine.

Hi everyone,
A friend of mine was asking how he can purchase over 30 copies of Windows 7. I'd love to point him to my local retailer but they don't offer discounts for bulk purchases.
I checked eBay out but those stories of sellers selling fake copies is not comforting at all.
Does anyone know where my friend can safely purchase legitimate copies?
oreo
Hi there
A legal way to do this is with a VOLUME LICENSE (or VL) system. Contact Ms as they will STILL supply W7 via this route.
Large corporations do this and so they image a Windows system and deploy it on to their company computers without every one of them needing a separate key etc.
If you were buying 30 copies of Windows this would also be far cheaper than 30 RETAIL copies too.
(A trip to some outlets in the seedier parts of Shanghai might get you what you want - but I'd be a bit dubious as to the Source of the copies though).
Buying in volume by "non standard" outlets will only lead to grief in the end. You CAN use legitimate "Used copies" provided the originals are RETAIL (not OEM) and they have been wiped from the previous users machines - but I wouldn't go down that route for Bulk copies. For a single copy - nothing wrong with that if you can find a person who has upgraded to W8 and no longer needs their copy of W7.
Cheers

This guy sounds legit.
my friends computer doesnt download windows updates, the windows update thingy says that it found 73 new updates. but whenever he tries to install them it says "following updates could not be installed" meaning all of the 73 ones. what to do? :>
Have your friend go to update windows page and if he gets the error message again look in the upper right hand corner for an error code. Report back with findings.

WU tells me there's 33 optional updates available, when I click and the window to select those and install them appears I can't see any of them. =/ Check the attachment to see what I'm talking about. What version of Windows are you running? You posted in the XP Forum, but your profile says Windows 7?
What part is ugly? This shouldn't be an issue with Windows 7. You can choose to not download the update in Windows Update and put a check in Do Not Remind Me of this Update.

Hi, I am trying Windows 7 professional 64bit is trying to update my PC now for the umpteenth time. I ask it to download and update. It tells me that it has updated and needs to restart. When it restarts, it has a couple of attempts at configuring the updates and lets me use Windows. When I turn my PC off, I get a 'Do not turn off, etc'. When I start my PC and check to see if the install worked, I am told it hasn't, any clues please?
I have been through this today and fixed mine.
There are ways MS suggests when you right click on the failed updates and read the help files that contain links to MS downloadable tools of sorts.
After reading about and trying some of the tools with no success I took a hint I read between the lines about running the one with "service pack" in its name alone. I had 10 updates available one of which had service pack in its title. It was "Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB2538243)"
I ran it alone and it took. Remaining were 4 security and 4 updates for windows and an IE9 update.
I then tried the 4 updates for windows alone and they failed.
Long story short, I tried some alone until they started working and got them all in.
Look at my screen shot and see the order in which I used. The order goes from the bottom up. The Hot Fix you see is one of MS's suggestions I tried that changed nothing.
As long as this is not every time eh?
I have received a link which has 50 jpg files in it. I opened the link and all the pictures are there. I clicked on select all and all files are highlighted and i clicked on save as but only one file is saved. Could you tell me, how can i save all of the 50 pictures to my pictures in bulk at the one time please?
I would like to send a bulk mailing to 200 customers and have read that Windows Live has problems with bulk mail of any size. I can divide it into two or three segments if that would help. I'd appreciate input about this since individual emails aren't an option.
Thanks!
I have received a link which has 50 jpg files in it. I opened the link and all the pictures are there. I clicked on select all and all files are highlighted and i clicked on save as but only one file is saved. Could you tell me, how can i save all of the 50 pictures to my pictures in bulk at the one time please?
Not sure if this will work, but have you tried selecting them all, "copy" and then "Paste" them into the folder of your choice.

Do I have to go through all that a gain with my Desktop?

Does anyone have some suggestions to correct the stalled update procedure.

Hi, see mine at #137, and more - maybe #160 for example.. about download issues - if that's the stage you're at.
Cumulative Update KB3189866 Windows 10 build 14393.187 - Windows 10 Forums
Some elected to download the update and install manually.
Which update is it?
I don't want to install them automatically. I would like to delete these downloaded update files as I like to install them manually and I haven't restarted my computer yet for installation. Some of these update installation were failed, so whether these failed update files are still in my computer?
Where are all these files stored( both failed and for update files)? In which folder exactly?

hi HussinBhy,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
With Windows 8 there was a certain service that has to be disabled "Nalperion Service" then proceed with the updates manually by 4 or by 5 updates only
If Windows 7, You just have to make sure your Antivirus is not blocking anything by disabling them temporarily
and most of all Try installing it by 4 or by 5 updates only, as it may be overlapping some updates if you will install everything at same time.
Best Regards

Hi everyone,
Hope you guys won't mind helping me with this issue. I have Windows Vista 32 bit Home Edition.
I recently noticed that it's been 2 weeks since my laptop scheduled an auto installation of windows updates on Sundays so I decided to check if any new ones were available. When I clicked on Check For Updates, I received the following message:
"Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer."
I restarted but nothing changed. I also went into the settings and selected never update, applied, then exited, then went back and re-selected auto update and install and applied but again, the same result.
I have no idea how to restart or reset the windows update so it will work.
I would really appreciate if you could please help me correct this problem.
Thank you for your time and looking forward to your replies.
Best regards!

Where did you get your Windows?
Was it an upgrade?
I did a clean install of Windows Home Premium 64 bit,

I cloned from original HDD, that was fully functional when removed.
None of the. will download updates.
SURT gives me error 87, not recognized.

I recently installed Windows 7 on a new computer. When I was trying to install program, it told me that it could not proceed without updating .net and it instructed me to run Windows Update. When I tried, I got the message "Windows Update cannot check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer." I have done that several times now but still get the same message. I know how to check my services just do not know which one is the problem.

You can try the System Update Readiness Tool. It tries to fix the most common reasons why Windows Updates fail.
What is the System Update Readiness Tool?
Windows says it manage to update 2922229kb successfully but the next time it connects to the internet it says it is updating 2922229kb again.
What's going on?
This has happened to others.
When you see the update, right click and then hide. You will not be bothered again.
I see video drive updates for both Intels GPU and Nvidia in Windows updates listed. However, nothing in Lenovo updates at all for either subsystem. The current driver date is quite old as well posted at Lenovo downloads. This is with Win 8.1 64bit Will they work?

hi tripplec,
The video drivers (Intel and Nvidia) should have no problem installing via Windows Update but I'm more concern about the switching function between the Intel and Nvidia as this unit automatically switch between the Intel GPU (for power saving) and Nvida GPU (for maximum performance).
If the drivers from Windows Updates are designed for units that uses switchable graphics / optimus technology then you shouldn't get any problems. Otherwise, you may need to rollback to the lenovo (customized) drivers for the functionality to work.

I partitioned my hard drive and installed Windows 2k on the second partition in addition to WinXP. This caused the XP bootloader to get overwriten with the Win2000 bootloader. I did a restore with the XP disk, fixing that problem. Unfortunately, this rolled my .NET back to v1, which after a bit of dll trickery, I was able to get it back to v3. However, now Windows Update can't install updates! It will download them, but when it tries to install them it fails.
The only help I can get out of the program is "winupdate failed be because of a problem with your computer."
Any ideas guys?

I have disable the in the settings for hardware installations for driver installations as i like to update driver myself such as sound drivers, network and video drivers. Those are basically the 3 drivers that i update including security updates. By using wushowhide, i can see the drivers updates that have been block such as intel pci serial port root, watchtimer and lpc controller and etc. Does it improve performance or should i leave it alone? What does updating those driver do?
I can only speak for myself, others may have different views. I recently had a number of problems related to Windows 10 Updates [including drivers].
For the present my policy is to go directly to the relevant manufacturer for driver updates. A review over a number of forums, Intel in particular reveals Intel and Microsoft apparently unable to resolve problems caused by updates. I'll stick with Intel for the moment.
Hello! This is an issue that I've never come across before. When I try to update my computer (Windows 7 64bit) I get an error message stating "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer." I already tried this before, but to my disappointment I still receive the message. Can anyone help me solve this issue? Thanks! If anyone needs any further information, please do ask. I'm a bit of a rookie though, haha.

BEFORE doing anything drastic such as resetting WU, try this -
Windows Update Settings - Change
Open Windows Update
Click on Change Settings
Select 'Never Update...'
Click OK
exit Windows Update
Now open Windows update again
Click on Change Settings
Select 'Update automatically'
Click OK
exit Windows Update
Open Windows Update, and do a manual Check for Updates.

Hi try clicking " Restore hidden updates" which can be seen in your screenshots.
If that does not work follow this : Windows Update - Reset
If your problem still occurs Try pressing "change settings" under windows update change it to never check for updates, then press ok. Next change it back to recommended settings, always check.... and so on, then press ok.
Please provide feedback, with how this goes.

Hi
I have recently been having problems with windows update and many other things. Basically it won't check for updates. When you click to check for updates, the bar starts but stays stuck searching. I then also notices microsoft security essentials does the same when u try and update. AVG free failed to install and I tried installing google chrome because I hate explorer and it also failed due to windows installer error. I tried manually installing service pack 2 from windows and it also failed. Nothing windows based will update.
I first noticed all this when I moved in with my girlfriend and started using her laptop. It is a decent laptop and the first thing I noticed it was a bit sluggish and I checked the CPU usage and one thing was hogging 70% all the time. It was windows error reporting or something similar which I disabled through systems, but nothing changed. Thats when I tried to update windows and it had 1 important update and 2 optional which I did. I remember one completed and 2 failed I think and after I restarted the computer the updater has not been working at all.
I got tune up utilities but it did not change anything after cleaning up various things. I also got rid one one malware thing from a free month trial with malwarebytes I think.
I have seen people talking about command prompts and cleaning registries but I cant get them to work properly.

Hi,
I have had several problems with my laptop since I bought it. The first one had continual blue screens and other issues and was replaced within a few weeks. The second had the same problems but by that point I had moved abroad to study and work and needed it to write documents for work and write my dissertation so there was no way I could send it away for weeks to get replaced again.
I have learned to live with the blue screens as I don't know how to fix it but so far hasn't lost me any data (the ones I most often get are BAD_POOL_CALLER and sometimes PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA and maybe others but I don't always notice before it disappears). Several months ago, though, my updates started failing. First it was a few at a time, then most of them but the occassional one would work, and now for the last few weeks (if not months) every single one has been failing. I used to try searching for the error codes but there were so many and I never got any straight answers on what to actually do so I'm hoping one of you kind souls can help me!
Many thanks in advance
If it's still under warranty I'd sure try to get this resolved by using the warranty. Here's some of the information I found by searching for your error messages.

I need to work around Windows Update because it fails more often than it succeeds on one of my systems. Does anyone know how to find out what updates are available without using Settings\Updates & Security so I can download them directly from the Windows Update Catalogue?

What should I do to fix this issue?
Here ya go.
Windows Update will not update and I've tried multiple fixes
I noticed last night that Windows Update had 55 updates to download. Upon further inspection, it said updates were last downloaded sometime in November.
I have run the Windows Update Troubleshooting; it resolved some items, but not others (forgot to take a screenshot). Now Windows Update says I have never even checked for updates.
Following the advice on other threads, I selected only 2 of the updates, then let it run overnight. I woke up this morning to ZERO percent complete. Ugh.
I'm able to view pages on Internet Explorer and Chrome without issue, and MalwareBytes was able to update just fine. What next?
Download the Windows Update Readiness Tool and run it.

Use MS Update Catalog and search for the KB# you need.
Microsoft Update Catalog
Windows Update says it's Downloading Updates. It has said that more than 30 minutes ago. And it's still 0 KB total, 0% complete. What's going on?
If you have a slow internet connection and/or you have just done a clean install and there are many updates to download, you'll just have to be patient. For example, I just did a recent clean install of Windows 8.0 and there were 62 updates to download. I'd wait a bit more and see what happens if any of my previous assumption apply.
Good luck.
I've been dealing with this for about two weeks. There was another thread on here dealing with the same topic (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic473547.html). I tried everything that was suggested in there, but none of it worked.
I'm running: Windows 7 Professional, 64 bit, Service Pack 1, 4 GB RAM, Intel Core i3 2.30 GHz.
This computer is about two months old. I'm at my wits end.
This link will take you to a article posted in the Answers.Microsoft which may be of help.

The Check for Updates option in the Windows Update window, has a red shield with a cross in it, and I get the "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer" message when I click the Check for Updates button.
Coincidentally, Search Indexing is also not working.
I don't know when this all started, but it seems that it may have started when I did a system clone of my original system HDD using AOMEI Backupper Professional Edition 2.2
The new HDD (which is the clone) all works fine as far as I can see, except for the two issues.
I have tried various Microsoft Fixits, Cmd processes as well as SFC, and started services in Services (Local), all to no avail.

2 more repliesHi,
I am attempting to update a new install of Windows Vista that is currently at SP1.
Initially, attempts to run the update failed with error code 80080005, but I got by that with the help of a post on this forum. The advice there was to change the settings to never update, exit Update, re-enter it and and set it back to update automatically. That worked fine.
Now, however, when I open Windows Update and click on Check for updates, the screen flashes immediately and no update are found. I don't even think it's checking.
Any help with this problem would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Hello Everyone:
I am unable to receive Windows updates. Even manual updates won't work. This seems to have started when I upgrade my Hard Drive to a Momentus xt 750GB (Hybrid Drive)
I combed the network and try all solution suggested. I reverted to drive images made at various time. No luck.
The first message when I click is Windows Update Checjk for update for your computer. Then Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer,
It doesn't appear to be a virus: Fresh installs won't clear the and my Norton has always been up to date. I even run Windows Malicious detector. Zero issues.
What I come to think of is a compatibility issue: 512b then, 4kb now? I know there has been a patch and I use routinely external HD of High capacity.
I would appreciate some help if you can. Again, I don't think it is a virus.

Is your Windows Update service in fact running?
9 more repliesSo my copy of windows 10 is ready, and i want to update everything else beforehand. but i go into windows update, and when i hit "check for updates" it says checking, then returns an error code 80244019. i already tried running the windows update troubleshooter app from their website...no luck with that. it says fixed, but i still have the same issue.
i'm assuming this is the reason that when i click "lets continue" on the windows 10 update notification, its just says "working on it" for infinity.
i have not tried booting in safe mode yet, because the last time i tried that, something happened and i couldnt log back into windows and ended up having to bring it to the microsoft store and had to have them clean install windows.
any thoughts?

Turn off the updates (via the registry) and then on?
As of Thursday evening, Sept 28, I've read a lot about a major Windows security flaw that may just have been "fixed" by MS, necessitating downloading and installing one or more updates from the windows update site. But whenever I go to that site, either manually or with automatic updates, which I have configured to alert me but do nothing further, I ONLY get told that an update to Windows Installer 3.1 is available.
Trouble is, I've downloaded that one four times now, and it always--ALWAYS--fails to install properly. When I tried to install it manually after downloading it manually, it failed with a small error window saying "access is denied"; nothing further. I've seen that one enough, when I had trouble installing the Windows XP Home SP2 update, that I just said "to =^(*^)(&% with it".
But now, it seems, that's the only update MS says is available to me.
Using some good advice from an earlier msg, I ran Belarc's analysis routine. Among other things, it reported nearly 50 critical updates it could not verify had been installed.
Am I in trouble or aren't I?
What should I do?
Your computer specifications tell me that SP2 is installed and you said in your last post = when I had trouble installing the Windows XP Home SP2 update, that I just said "to =^(*^)(&% with it".
Question is was SP2 fully installed?
The other thing that makes me wonder is the thing about the other 50 or so updates that do not show installed in Belarc. I would like you to download this update for Belarc and install it and rerun it.

Please run this image restorehealth command............................
In the same Command Prompt (Admin) windows, copy and paste this command...........
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
> press Enter.
Again it will take some time.
When finished, it will give you a report.
If it fails to finish and you get an error message " sources file could not be found ", then use this Tech Bench link below and download the ISO file. You need to do that because you need the Install.wim file which only Tech Bench will provide.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/techbench
Once you have the iso downloaded, right click at the ISO > click Mount > leave it there.
Then open the same command prompt (Admin), and copy and paste this................
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:wim:H:\sources\install.wim:1 /limitaccess
Note : H is the drive where the iso is mounted. Change it if your driver letter is different.
When it is completed, you should get the report that the operation is successful.
Now run the sfc /scannow again. It should be ok this time.

hi guys
It seems that I am missing at least one important security update for Windows 8 pro. I checked with my friend and he said he had a security update that I didn't have. He has windows 8 too. I waited for a few days and my windows update still hasn't received it. Here's the last couple of updates i have received and installed successfully:
Security Update for Microsoft Silverlight (KB2690729)
Microsoft Silverlight (KB2668562)
Marvell - LAN - Marvell Yukon 88E8071 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller
LSI - Network - LSI PCI-SV92PP Soft Modem
Security Update for Windows 8 for x64-based Systems (KB2753842)
the first one for Microsoft Silverlight was installed the 28th of this month. and the last one the security update for windows 8 was installed the 20th of this month. i'm worried about all this cause i thought these windows updates were installed more timely than this especially since Windows 8 is still relatively new. Can someone offer any advice?
thanks in advice.
Did he happen to mention what security update it is?
I am running windows 10 64bit and it installs updates and does not install them, does not give me an error code it just says error under my previous updates.
Hi,
First basics:
From an admin command prompt
[Windows key + X, click command prompt (admin)]
chkdsk C: /F
Your PC will need to restart.
Make sure the result is clear or fixed- else do not proceed.
Post back the result, which you can get after a restart as follows:
How do I see the results of a CHKDSK that ran on boot? - Ask Leo!
If clear:
Then try troubleshooting:
In cortana's search box type Trouble and click Troubleshooting
In the Control Panel GUI that opens, click Troubleshoot Windows Updates
Post back the result
If that doesn't help try
Tweaking.com's cautious repair tool (free).
Observe the cautious stages, select only the Windows Update repair and run it.
Test the result and post back.
Windows Update has become erratic, currently gets stuck in the "looking for updates" phase. I have followed the instructions on this forum titled "Windows Update Posting Instructions." Ran the SURT with no issues reported. The SFC scan came back clean as well. There are no error codes like the example shown, on the WU screen, but at one point there was a pop-up box (I believe in conjunction with Windows Update Standalone Installer) with error 0x8024001e which may or may not now be resolved. The MS Genuine Advantage Diagnostics Tool has not helped. Also along the way I was advised to install Hotfix for Windows KB947821, which I did. Compressed CBS file will not upload to this post because it is too large (about 6MB).
All this is way above my pay grade as a non-tech user, but I think I have followed the instructions correctly. Any wisdom greatly appreciated!
I'm installing a new Windows XP on an old laptop, has mostly went well. After XP sp3 it installed a few updates, then took a good while, a couple of days while windows update would not give me the big list of updates, and I got frustrated, removed systemdir/softwaredistribution
and systemdir/system32/catroot and it gave me results I think within a couple of hours.
Then I installed Office 2007. And windows update upgraded that to 2007 sp3 as well. After that, I'm having an issue with the cpu going to 100% and it's going for days and no list ever comes up again. So I tried removing those folders again, except it didn't
work this time.
So I turned on fulll windows update logs from the registry (after restarting the windows update service and requesting update now from the client),
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Trace\Flags set to 16
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Trace\Level set to 4
and it would fill the log full the first 30 minutes, it grows some 30 MB of logs. Then nothing. It is using 100% cpu but no output.. it seems like it gets stuck in a forever loop and consumes all cpu.
Laptop is single threaded 1.7 GHz pentium M Centrino.
Since it already has all possible updates related to windows and windows update (but not office), I'm doubtful there is an update that fixes this windows update issue. I don't really understand the log, but it seems all normal, no real errors,

Hi HP experts. Last night i made a clean install with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit with service pack 1 included - when that said i can only see one update in installed updates, and its kb 976902. And i also installed the nessecary drivers, and Trend Micro as my Internet Security - so far so good. For about 12 hours Windows Update has now been running without finding any updates at all, and it keeps running. I have tried in Windows firewall to make a firewall rule for C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe - because i read somewhere that it might be the firewall that blocked Update - and i have tried to run the windows update diagnostic tool, and it said it solved a couple of things and then i restarted the laptop but still no luck. I hope that one of you can help me on the way to a functioning Windows Update, so do any of you have a solution ? It would be very much appreciated. Also i have to say that i have a reserve laptop, where i for a long time ago also made a clean install with windows 7 home premium 64 bit, and on that one it takes a very long time to run update also, but a least it finds something. So perhaps i a doing something wrong on both laptops ?
Hi: Install both of these patches, restart the PC and see if that gets Windows update to work for you. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3083710 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3102810
1 more repliesnothing serious, just a strange little problem i've noticed recently.
when clicking the start menu, I always see the icon that says an update is required on shutdown, which i click. there is absolutely no indication that any update is taking place, and when I run update manually, there is nothing available. I've tried researching similar problems but everyone seems to say that there's an update that fails for whatever reason. I do not have this issue though which is why I can't understand what's happening.
any ideas?
You can go to Win Updates> History and look for clues.
There is also a update reset Fixit

I`m having the problem... Update just hangs... I thinks it`s the latest update for the update agent... As far as upgrading to Windows 10, just use the media creation tool... As long as your copy of 7 is legit, you can just upgrade, create an iso, or a usb install.

Hey guys,
I've come across this annoying problem where, Windows Update can't update certain features/drivers. In this case it would be my mouse pad driver and integrated gfx driver... All I get is a notification saying it can't update. On the Windows Update window, this is what I get:
Once I click "Instalar Agora" (Install now), no second window appears, as you would expect from a third party update.
Any suggestions? This is really becoming highly annoying.
Have you restarted the machine yet? Sometimes that fixes update issues. Also are you sure you're actually receiving an error... Driver updates in Windows 10 are delivered via WSUS as well now so you won't see anything other than the standard windows update procedure.
