Bitlocker Data Lost Recovery Help!

Question: Bitlocker Data Lost Recovery Help!

Hi,
Actually i saved data in partition, then after added bitlocker security.
I have password and key also.
Then I unlocked it for sometime, Due to my friend mistake, he deleted entire data from drive (which was enabled for bitlock). Data was huge so it just deleted without going to recyclebin.
So now i can recover data with DATA RECOVERY TOOL from partition.
But Its encrypted. bcuz in that drive data was encrypted.
So when i try to access its marked as not read (encrypted).
I think there is no way to put same data back in bitlock cover and unlock it or other solution.
If you have some suggestions, Please suggest.
I will be very thankfull to you.

Preferred Solution: Bitlocker Data Lost Recovery Help!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Any suggestions in recovering the key which is already backed up in the encrypted HDD.

thinking to format HDD and than attempt data recovery but not sure if i will be able to recover all or nothing.

Answer:Bitlocker Recovery Key - lost

Hello Teky, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you format the encrypted drive, it will pretty much destroy any chance of recovering the drive.

If you don't have the BitLocker recovery key or password, then decrypting or recovering the drive will just about be impossible.

Hey Guys,
Im new here so apologies if this in the wrong section.
Basically, massive problem here - I have a WD MyBook External HDD and have used BitLocker to Go on it from Windows 7 RC, and I kept the recovery key in my main HD Documents folder. (This was a x86 install).
Last night I (stupidly) backed up the key to the External HDD automatically forgetting it would be locked later (as it unlocks on startup so I forget it would be secured elsewhere) and went ahead to clean format my PC to a Windows 7 x64 RTM Install.

Now, when I come to plug in the drive today, instead of prompting for a password as it SHOULD, I instead am askked for the recovery key which I stupidly enclosed in the External HD itself.

Naturally, this External Drive contains my life, several GB of music, all of my college work, images, videos and so forth and I cannot really do with losing it all.

The only other information I can give is that at no point was the HD fully encrypted by BLocker, instead I used to cancel it at each start up and it never passed 3.5% so does this mean not ALL of the data is encrypted and maybe the key I copied into there last night may still be safe (no BL encryption went on after copying it?)

If so, how would I go about possibly finding this? Is there any other way to access the drive without getting the BLocker popup? I already tried a Live boot disk, cmd prompt etc?

Thank you.

how can i recover my data ??? i need my data
i tried drive recovering tools (advanced EFS data recovery, easeus . . ,) . but . . . it's encrypted and formatted drive.
can i undo quick format and decrypt ???
sorry my english is not good.
someone help me please.

Answer:Can i recover lost data from encrypted drive by Bitlocker

BitLocker is not the cause of failed to recover files. Format a drive will clear all data saved on the hard disk. Thus recovery formatted data will be a hard disk based technology but not related to operation system. There is no build-in data recovery feature in Windows operations. So we will needto use third party recovery tool or contact third party data recovery company for current issue.

As recovery missing data service will be expensive, we can also check emails and contact friends to see if that can help get a part of files back especially for photos, documents etc.

Ok here is the deal. I had a new laptop that dual booted vista and linux. the vista partitioned was encrypted with bitlocker. I decide to give windows 7 a try so I repartition the drive in to one large volume, format and install windows 7. Everything worked perfectly. The problem is after about a week I realize there was some important files on the vista partition before I wiped everything out. I have found several data recovery programs the can recover files after a format, however they only show files that where on the linux partition. My guess is that the bitlocker encryption is preventing these tools from finding any of the vista files.

So the question is, Does anyone know of a application or company that can recover files from a bitlocker'ed drive after it has been formatted.

I just started using BitLocker on a Windows7 Computer and am confused about one specific aspect of recovering data drives. I have read through the tutorials on here but I can't seem to find anywhere that explicitly states if this is possible or not.

From this link: Regain access to a computer locked by BitLocker Drive Encryption

I see the statement that "To unlock the drive and regain access to your files, you will need the BitLocker recovery password. If you also encrypted data drives, you will need to have access to the drive that Windows is installed on as well."

My question is if my OS drive dies, will the data drives be recoverable with the password and/or recovery key?

I am not currently in such a situation but I would like to prepare for all possibilities. Since a TPM is needed to store the encryption keys on for the OS drive (I just ordered one but have not encrypted my OS drive yet), are the encryption keys for the data drives are stored on the OS drive itself and this is the issue?

Most of the things I find on Google when trying to search about this issue discuss recovering a data drive that is failing, not a data drive that is in good health but does not have access to the system drive. Can anyone say definitively if this is possible, or do I need to be prepared to lose all data on data drives if my system drive crashes?

Answer:BitLocker Encrypted Data Drive Recovery Question

Based upon what I have read, your data drives will be UNRECOVERABLE if your OS drive dies. I would consider setting up a RAID 5 array for your OS drive for redundancy, this way if one drive dies, all you have to do is replace it and the missing data pieces will be recreated.

Answer:Lost my windows bitlocker drive encryption recovery key

Hello @Destro78 Welcome to the HP Support forum. Thank you for posting. BitLocker keys (for personal devices) are stored inside or in many case they are back-up to Microsoft cloud with your Microsoft account. Since this is a tablet, I suspect that I suspect your recovery key is available in Microsoft's OneDrive spaceHere are instructions how you can recover the key as well as how to get back to business.>> http://windowsitpro.com/microsoft-surface/locating-your-microsoft-surface-bitlocker-recovery-key>> http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/21433-bitlocker-recovery-unlock-drive-windows-8-a.html  >> http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=237614https://onedrive.live.com/recoverykey Login to the MS account there and check.Use the key to login to your PC.Eventually, if you prefer you can disable BitLocker and turn off device encryption, or save/print the key offlinePlease, note that it is very important for security reasons that you keep the encryption key (Bitlocker key) in a secure place so that only you know it.  More info - re. Hello all,
I happen to have reinstalled by mistake a new Windows7 OS on a drive (I had two drives one with an OS and another with a bitlocker drive used for back up, both drives were IDE drives and the bitlocker was under slave mode if that can be of any help... ) that hosted VERY important data and was encrypted by Bitlocker. What can I please do to recover this formerly encrypted data? The drive is now recognized as an active healthy partition with an associated drive letter (different from the original one)
I don't have the bitlocker key.

If you need any hardware info please let me know.
Help me please!
Best,
Mike

Of course there are many companies which are able to rescue the data on damage HDDs of after HDD formatting but in my opinion the costs would be immense?

Hi
I used CLEAN in DISKPART and i delete all partitions of my only disk.
Now i dont have any OS on my laptop and i want recover partition by "Partition Wizard" or "Test Disk" that can boot from CD but i fear that this bootable program overwrite on my only disk to load itself and some part of my data will be lost.
Am i right?
I must apologize because of my weak language skills.

Answer:May i lost my data in recovery by bootable recovery programs?

It depends on how valuable your data was and much you want to spend to get it back. The best chance you would have of retrieving your data would be to take your hard drive to a professional recovery service, explain to them the exact steps you did to delete your partitions and pay the professionals to retrieve your data.

I have successfully - many, many years ago - recovered a deleted partition using software that I purchased, but I can't remember exactly which software it was - I only used it once.

Software such as this:
Free Partition Recovery Software - EaseUS Partition Recovery.

Is meant to be booted from CD/DVD/USB and not write to the hard drive so that it can read possible markers left on the hard drive to indicate where the partitions used to be and restore them.

Hi,

I'm in desperate need of some help. My PC at work decided to shutdown each time it booted up and displayed the desktop it would display a message along the lines on 'Microsoft has detected an error and will shutdown...', then shutdown.

The machine was taken away by the IT guys who at first thought it was a memory issue, I was then told it was a hard drive fault and that they tried to clone the hard drive to a new hard drive but some of the windows system files were corrupt, so they gave me a new hard drive with and loaded a fresh install of Windows 7 and set my faulty hard drive as the slave drive.

The slave drive originally had XP on it.

The problem I have is trying to recover the files from the slave drive, although the drive and structure look in tact the user profile doesn't appear at all, I've unhidden files within 'user' but it just shows up as 'default' with just a bunch of empty folders.

Is there anyway I can recover my profile and more importantly recover my files?

Many thanks

Answer:Recovery of lost data

As your IT guys have tried, I would say NO.

Hi
After rebooting one of our test machines, bitlocker wanted the recovery key.
There were no hardware modifications on that machine.
Error message in event log:
Bootmgr failed to obtain the bitlocker volume master key from the TPM because the PCRs did not match

Each time the machine starts, the recovery key is needed.
Any idea how to solve that issue and why it happens?
update:
Second partition was created manually on that machine. So that's clear that bitlocker reacts...
But now: how can I confirm those changes so that the recovery key is not needed each time we boot?

Hi,

I would like to confirm if BitLocker accepts the recovery key?

Please update the BIOS to improve the stability for TPM first.

I also would like to suggest you disable and enable BitLocker again to reset the settings.

Hello and good afternoon, I have a issue where a manager started the Bitlocker process on the SD card in his Surface Pro 3

with Windows 8.1. The Bitlocker attempt failed at 3.4% completed but the SD card ended up being Bitlocked without providing the Bitlocker Recovery Key (I've never seen this happen before). He doesn't know the password for the SD card and of course
I've been tasked to somehow release the encryption so that he can get the required information off of the SD card.

Is there anything that can be done to release the encryption on the SD card or has the SD card been made non-accessible moving forward?

Hi, my question concerns an HP Pavillion Desktop with Windows XP Home Edition Operating System. About a week ago my computer was degenerating to such a condition that it would no longer start up properly: it would not load some of the host process properly at start up and the desk top would not appear. The system would hang up, and the only way I could access files was in safe mode.
So I decided to do a Full System Recovery and allow the computer to restore itself to some sort of usable condition. Upon completing the initial set up I was presented with, I pressed FINISH and the system froze again, refusing to load the desktop.
So, perhaps foolishly, I attempted a System Recovery from the Recovery DVDs the computer had prompted me to make a while ago, as well as a few more System Restores and Recoveries.
Finally after letting the computer run its course for nearly a day, I was able to use the desktop normally again. However, I discovered that some text documents which I had saved directly on to the desktop had disappeared. I scoured the directories looking for them, discovering that the old Documents and Settings from the previous user name (the one I had when I saved the files onto the desktop) would not allow me to access its DESKTOP folder, where I hoped these documents might be.
These documents were not backed up in any other folder, but saved directly to the desktop.
My question is, and I know it's probably a long shot: Is there any hope that I might be able to recov... Read more

Which means that their should be data on....  But when I click on it I see nothing.would anyone know how I can see that data and what is on the D drive?thankschris

Answer:lost data after system recovery

The D: drive probably doesn't contain any backups. It contains a recovery partition. The "backup" procedure you ran through, assuming you didn't burn any discs during the process, likely just backed up your data somewhere on the C: drive, not onto D: (since there would not be room).

yes and no depending if you've written OVER the sectors of your data. Go get yourself a program that reads the sectors on the harddrive. A simple search on www.downloads.com will show some results. I believe I used a program called GetDataBack awhile ago. Worked like a charm.

My girlfriend's laptop seems to be showing symptoms consistent with gradual hard-drive failure (she is losing random bits of data for no reason and is experiencing OS functionality slowdown as well as boot errors). One of the files that 'vanished' was her diary, is there any way to recover this by means of software? (The laptop is still functional and I can run whatever needs to be run). Please get back to me if there is any way to solve this. We tried a data-recovery program but it didn't yield any results, only something that looks like a temp copy of the file. Word couldn't open it because it was corrupted, and I don't think that's the right file anyways since it's only ~160 B, when her diary was a 20 page file (I'm guessing ~100 KB)
Thanks for any help anyone can give.

Not sure if I'm in the right place, but here goes. I recently did a partial system recovery and when I was done, everything was in it's right place except for one folder. I did a search and located it in USERDATA but was unable to access it. I managed to gain ownership of the folder but when I opened it, the folder was empty! Why would this happen and is there any way I can recover the lost files? I even downloaded a file recovery program but I still cannot find the files although I have found other crap that has been deleted. Does anyone have any advice as to what can be done? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi..

A recent attempt to install (downloaded from the HP site) printer software caused my stable XPsp3 Compaq/HP PC to constantly lock within a few mouse clicks from start up. Uninstalling the software didn't help and I couldn't restore to a pre-install restore point. Reinstalling the software from a borrowed disc didn't do anything either.

I ran the Compaq on-board system recovery software from boot up (from a partition on the disc I gather). Rather than go for the more destructive back-to-completely-original option, I went for one that said I'd have to reinstall non-factory software - but that data files would be unaffected.

Lo and behold the near-opposite has occurred: all the self-installed software remains intact but data files from my account have been wiped. My wifes account data is still there however.

I've a recent enough back-up available but will have lost honeymoon photos. At least, they're not available via XP/Explorer - though I assume they haven't been written over yet on disc. Any idea how to go about retrieving these files?

Any help would be appreciated..

Ian

Answer:Recovering lost data after system recovery

GetDataBack to recover the lost files, then I'd wipe the drive and start fresh. You may have had malware and/or HD errors messing up the repair install. The HD may also be failing; it would be a good idea to test it before reinstalling.

I purchased a new Motherboard to upgrade my computer and new SSD drive. I installed Windows 7 again on my new SSD. I had a 3TB Seagate Drive that had 3 partitions. One partition had Windows 7 and system files. The other two had data. Now, one of my data partitions shows as Unallocated. The old Windows 7 partition is totally accessible as well as one data partition. I need to recover the data on the drive from the unallocated partition. I've tried Seatools and EaseUs partition tool. I'm going to try DiscInternals next.

Does anyone have suggestions on recovering a partition that is now unallocated? I imagine the data is still there but the partition isn't being recognized by Windows 7.

Thanks

my system recently crashed,

Two of my friends have had problems with E-Machines PCs running XP. On both occasions, on booting up the PC the cursor just sat in the top left hand corner. The engineers who came out loaded the recovery disk, and ten minutes later they had what appeared to be a working system. But, all of their data was missing. Some data had been been copied to floppies, but a lot was lost. How can this data be recovered?. Does anyone know of a good, freeware, package? Thanks. Bill

My computer (running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit) can no longer access my Western Digital Caviar "Black" 1 TB hard drive that's connected, but I suspect my data to still be in there, so I wonder what data recorvery tools people have used and recommend.

This is one of the additional drives to my operating system C:\ drive. It has been formatted as NTFS and been working fine for several months until a week ago. Now it appears as the E drive on My Computer (as originally configured) but the volume label is now blank (I used to have that named as "Media"). When I double-click on it to enter the drive, I get the error message: "E:\ is not accessible. The parameter is incorrect."

In Computer Management --> Storage --> Disk Management, the drive appears but it's File System is now indicated as RAW rather than NTFS.

I have tried using Active Partition Recovery and that successfully lists my drive with the original label name ("Media") and as NTFS, and also lists the folders located at the root of the drive, which is why I suspect my data to still be in there and recoverable. However, when I use this tool to do a full scan of my disk, it freezes after scanning 35 MB. There are tools out there with varying reliability, so whch ones do people here recommend? (another tool I trired, I forget its name, was scanning my disk but prediced 43 days to go over the entire 1 TB, so that's out of the question!). I have been told to u... Read more

Answer:Data recovery from drive with lost format, software recommendations please

Oh crap. Something like this happened recently to me when I had backed up some data to an USB thumb drive. It worked fine for awhile, then some weeks later, my PC just couldn't read it anymore (kept saying "disk in drive needs to be reformatted/etc"...and the properties for the drive also showed it as RAW format instead of FAT32 like it would have been usually).

I think the issue is drive corruption, which seems to be fairly common with external devices like USB drives, but odd in the case of an internal drive. The remedy for me was to try to access it from a different system, which was easy since being a USB stick I could try it elsewhere easily. If you can use another system to access the drive, preferably a Linux/Ubuntu based one; it is likely your best bet to recoup the data before its lost permanently. An external HDD kit would be ideal, and they are quite cheap also.

Hope this helps!

Hi guys,

I have a serious problem with my Packard Bell Easy Note V7800W.

Since a few days, when I started the PC, Windows would load, then I would login, and then the PC would freeze when loading the desktop etc: I could see my desktop, see the start menu, etc. But could not click on anything. And the same situation would happen even with annother user.

So I tried different things. First, I wanted to restart in safe mode to run a chkdsk. But when I tried starting safe mode, it would just start the normal Windows.

So I saw on the Packard Bell docs that there was a recovery mode I could launch at startup by pressing F11 (or F10, don't remember). The doc mentionned that I would then be able to choose to backup my data and reinstall Windows.

I went ahead. And then things got very wired. After launching, the tool told me no partition was found, and that it was now creating one. Ok. Then I got a menu proposing me to: backup my data and reinstall Windows. Only problem, this option was disabled (radio button disabled). The only option left was to restore at factory default. Of course I didn't want to since I didn't want to loose my data.

Now what am I supposed to do ? When I restart the computer it automatically boots on the recovery partition. I can't boot in any other mode. I inserted a Windows Installation CD (from annother computer), tried running chkdsk but it only finds two partitions: C:/MININT (6GB) and annother one of 16 GB. My DD is 80 GB in total.... Read more

Answer:Serious problem with my Packard Bell - data lost after running recovery tool ?

Hey there, Welcome to Tech Guy forums.

Personally I think the best way forward with this problem is to remove the hard drive out of your computer. If it is IDE (PATA) then you will have to switch the jumpers to make it a slave drive and install it into another working computer and attempt to recover your data off the drive. If it is a SATA drive then you will not have to set the jumpers and should be able to install the drive straight into another computer and be able to access it.

The drive will show up as the 2 partitions that you have mentioned and hopefully your data will be safe in one of those partitions. The other space that isn't accounted for I can only presume has been deleted and made ready to become a partition in which case you may need to use a data recovery program to get he files back or possibly send your hard drive to a professional company to get them to try and recover it for you.

Hi, I am using a T400, window 7, 32 bits. Yesterday I accidentally clicked on  Start > All Programs > ThinkVantage> Create product recovery media or Create recovery media. I am not sure about which programs I clicked on but it appears an open up window asking me if I want to insert recovery disk, then I click no. It disappeared. It didn't tell me anything( like all the data will be lost and there is no progress box either; it happened very fast like in 5 seconds) and then I find that all my data in hard drive D is gone. I can not see hard drive D anymore in My computer. However I can find the partition titled "recovery partition" with 100% free storage in replace for my hard drive D in the storage management of  My computer and I cannot access it. I am so scared that I don't turn off the laptop 'till now. All the programs are working normal because I installed them on hard drive C but all the data on drive D is lost. Anyone has the same problems? I know a BIOS update on my Latitude with Windows 8 and Bitlocker activated on the O/S drive triggers Bit locker recovery on startup. I don't have the recovery key and so am stuck. How to recover without the Bit Locker recovery key?

Answer:BIOS update without suspending Bitlocker has triggered a recovery and on start up I am prompted for the recovery key

The solution I found was to install the previous version of the BIOS, but without being able to boot into Windows, I needed to install the previous version of the BIOS in DOS. Some server products provide a F12 boot up menu option to roll back a BIOS update, but this is not available in my Latitude.

I downloaded the correct BIOS version (the additional info section made specific reference to it being installable from Windows or DOS). I prepared a bootable USB key (to a dos prompt) and copied the bios installer executable to the memory stick.

Because secure boot (UEFI) is enabled, it is not possible to boot up from USB key, so legacy boot mode needs to be enabled. There were 3 settings that required changing in the BIOS before I was able to boot from the USB key.

Once I was able to boot into DOS from the USB key and got to the DOS prompt, I ran the BIOS update exe. The laptop rebooted, installed the previous BIOS version and then rebooted again. I pressed F2 to get into the BIOS and changed back the settings as they were (secure boot UEFI). I then managed to boot into windows without being prompted for the Bit locker recovery key.

You able to export or view the Bitlocker recovery key by going to Control Panel -> Security -> Bit locker Management, and temporarily suspend protection (until the next reboot). It is possible to run a commandlet to specify the number of reboots bit locker should be suspended for.

You may find that installing the previous version of the ... Read more

Question: Bitlocker data

Hi,
I encrypted a volume using bitlocker on windows 7 ultimate.. My cousin was installing windows 8.1 on my laptop but she may have formatted and recreated the partitions during the setup and now I have lost my encrypted volume and its data contents.. Is there
any way I can get my encrypted volume back or its data cuz they were too important to lose.. I tried using a recovery software but it didn't recover the encrypted volume contents..

Will reinstalling windows 7 show my encrypted volume/data or is there any way I can get back my bitlocker enabled partition or its encrypted data contents?
Any help would be highly appreciated and thanks in advance...

Hey Guys,
Im new here so apologies if this in the wrong section.

Thank you.

MS supplies cops with DIY forensics tool

COFEE, (Computer Online Forensic Evidence Extractor)

Microsoft has reportedly developed a USB key that allows investigators to extract forensic data from PCs.
COFEE (Computer Online Forensic Evidence Extractor) comes in a USB key form factor, and was distributed to a small number of law-enforcement agencies last June, the Seattle Times reports. The device includes 150 tools that allow investigators to extract internet history files, for example, or "decrypt passwords".

Rather than pointing to the existence of a backdoor the decrypting password feature appears to relate to password auditing tools. COFEE also allows investigators to upload data for analysis.
The device is used by more than 2,000 officers in at least 15 countries, including Germany and the US. Microsoft supplies the technology to law enforcement agencies without charge. The tool reportedly allows investigators to scan for evidence on site without necessarily having to cart PCs back to a lab.
Computer forensics is a painstaking process carefully designed to make sure data on a suspect computer isn't changed - simply plugging a device into a computer to extract data seems like a quick and dirty fix. The admissibility of such data in court in debatable even before we get into considering the possibility that the USB key might harbour malware.

I am working on a Windows 7 deployment project. We are encrypting laptops with Bit Locker. Can users restore their data from their home drives on the network if Bit Locker hasn't finished yet? I was told they can't. In other words, they can save to the hard drive while encrypting is in progress but can not restore data from their network home drive while encryption is in progress. Is this true? Thanks.

Hello,

I currently have Win 7 Beta as my main OS with a non-system partition encrypted with Bit-locker(without TPM). I downloaded a copy of Win 7 RC, but will the new OS recognize the bit-locker encrypted partitions? Do I need to decrypt this drive, re-install the OS and then encrypt this non-system partition again? (I don't have my boot partition encrypted)

Or will Win 7 RC natively recognize the bit-locker partition and I just have to provide the user key to mount the drive?

Thanks,

Question: BitLocker Recovery

I started up my unit to be confronted with a message to provide a BitLocker recovery key, I do not have one and never set this up.I have tried following the instructions to do a system reset but it doesn't work and reverts to the Choose an Option screen.I have product key ID etcHelp!!!

Answer:BitLocker Recovery

BitLocker can not be inadvertently turned on. Someone who has access to your notebook has encrypted the drive with Bitlocker technology. Unless you have the password, you do have a severe problem. Unencrypting the hard disk will be very expensive, that is, if it can be done.http://www.lostpassword.com/hdd-decryption.htm  There are companies that claim to be able to do it, but there is unlikely to be a guarantee that it will work. https://www.google.nl/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=how+to+remove+bitlocker+...

When I reset Spectre x2, it asks me Bitlocker recovery key. I don't have the key. What can I do?

Answer:Bitlocker recovery key

Hello @pcsl, Welcome back to the HP Support forum. Thank you for your post. BitLocker is a Microsoft software designed to protect your PC against offline attacks, unauthorized access typically if your PC gets stolen. BitLocker is full disk encryption software. More info:>> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitLocker>> http://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-bitlocker-encryption-windows-10 BitLocker was activated by someone and during the activation time it prompts the user to save/store the key in a safe place. If this is company owned asset/PC, you should turn to your company's IT support guys and they should be able to provide you with the recovery key. If this is your own device, most probably you use a slightly different BitLocker version for certain PCs and tablets known as Device encryption. Probably your key is stored in Microsoft OneDrive with your Microsoft account here :>> https://onedrive.live.com/recoverykey More info>> https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2015/12/microsoft-may-have-your-encryption-key-heres-...>> http://windowsitpro.com/microsoft-surface/locating-your-microsoft-surface-bitlocker-recovery-key>> http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/21433-bitlocker-recovery-unlock-drive-windows-8-a.html Please, note that it is very important for security reasons that you keep the encryption key (Bitlocker key) in a secure place so that only you know it. Let me know if this works for you ... We have setup windows 7 enterprise and have encrypted the machine. Everytime i reboot it asks for the recovery key. I have done the following. We have MBAM setup and the keys are stored automatically. I have had success with older models but this specific model
is giving me a hard time.

1. Made the C drive the first boot device

2. Paused bitlocker, rebooted and resumed.

3. Removed Encryption. Rebooted and encrypted again.

4. Downgraded TPM to 1.2 from 2.0

The point of drive encryption is to kept unauthorized people out of the computer.  HERE IS A MICROSOFT document about the subject.  Be sure to read the "I don't have a key.  What else can I do?"

Excuse me if I posted this in the wrong forum. but here is my issue.

We have bitlocker set up and every time we restart the computers, we are asked for the recovery key. Now we have the recovery key and get into windows fine. but how do we stop this from happening everytime we start the computer. We have suspended bitlocker then restarted. and restarted again to see if the situation corrects itself. Of course it does not.  Does anyone have any ideas on what I could do. Oh and it is on a domain.

Thanks for all the help and future suggestions.

Answer:Bitlocker Recovery Key

Turn off the Bitlocker this should resolve the issue.

Hi,

I have a new Windows 8.1 machine and I wish to encrypt the drive using Bitlocker. It gives me 4 options to save a recovery key
1. Save to your Microsoft account
2. Save to a USB flash drive
3. Save to a file
4. Print the recovery key

Option 1 isn't available as I'm logged on using a local account.
i. What is the difference between options 2 & 3? i.e. I could save to a file on a USB drive
ii. Does option 2 mean the USB flash drive cannot then be used for other purposes?
iii. Does option 2 also mean I could use a USB external hard drive, or does it have to be a flash drive?
iv. Once the recovery key has been created, can the key then be copied to other locations or is it only going to work where Bitlocker puts the key?
v. Just thinking about printing the recovery key - can this be used without a password to access the drive, how sensitive/important is the printed key?

N00b questions, I'd very much appreciate your answers.

Thanks

Answer:Bitlocker recovery key

hello and welcome to eight forms , my opinion , difference between 2 and 3 ,2 will create a file and put it on the flash drive for yah,3 you will have to move the file it creates to a flash drive of external drive manually 'I would think you could take the file it create and put it where ever you want , I don't use bitlocker ,if I did I would print it and put away for safe keeping ,like I try to do will all passwords .and if the drive is pass worded that you store the file on ,then yes someone would need the drive password to access the files on that drive, is not that what passwords are for ,I would assume that there are people who could hack your passwords like they do others ,good luck

My Surface Pro 3 shut down after my battery ran down flat a week ago. On trying to turn my system on, the Surface Pro 3 requested for my Bitlocker Recovery key. I was able to get the Bitlocker Recovery Key using another device and I used it and my
Surface Pro3 came on again. My only problem now is that whenever I shut down the system, it refuses to turn on, except I re-enter the 40-digit Recovery number before I have access to my files and documents. I find that as a serious inconvenience
to me. Kindly advise me on how the system will operate normally so that I don't have to re-enter a long string of 40-digit number before I have access to my Surface Pro 3 please.
Best regards

I have 2 problems, mine is recovering data from a DVD-R & a friend is looking for my help in recovering data from a "corrupted" Flash Drive.

I was burning data on a DVD-R multiple sessions disk when my Burner crapped out while using Nero. I now have a new Burner & when I go back into this disk I can only read data from my 1st session when I compare the #s from Nero's disk info tool, however it also shows that session 5 is still open?? but I cannot read anything from sessions 2, 3 & 4. Looking around I spotted CD Recovery Tool Box Free 1.1.7 is there anything more recent and or better that would let me try to recover the data on this disk. The data in session 5 is still on my HD but I would like to be able to recover the data in the other sessions, worst possible case even just the file names would be a small plus.

Now for the Flash Drive. It is a Lexar 8 Gig & what supposedly happened is that Peter lent it to a fellow employee so he could extract some data (probably a mistake). When he got it back a few minutes later & tried to use it all he got was a message that it was corrupted. As it has all of his product codes, phone numbers & personal sales data for the last year he is really desperate to try & recover the data. He does not have a computer of his own, so he has no backup (another bad idea). He has gotten a new Flash Drive a Sony 8 Gig, but I have told him that he better go out & get a 2nd one to use as a back... Read more
