I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an nvidia 6150 on my hp laptop. the sticker on the front said up to 559mb shared video ram , vista display settings says I only have 399. 128 is dedicated from the bios 271 is shared system memory. Nvidia control panel says 128 dedicated and 256 shared system which equals 384 turbocache. How do I utilize the full 559mb? I have 2 gig ram so I want it go to video if I am playing a game. My computer couldn't run halo1 on lowest settings at 640x480 without slowing down, but I got 28fps on half life lost coast stress test.

I'm trying to persuade my Dell Inspiron 7537 laptop to use the Dell provided v353.24 NVidia driver since this is reported on the Dell forum to currently provide better compatibility. This version installs fine , but after a few minutes Windows updates it to v 353.62. This happens even when I select No to "Do you want to automatically download manufacturer's apps and custom icons that are available" under Device Installation Settings.

I've done a clean install of the older v353.24 drivers twice but they always upgrade to v353.62.

So... Before anyone tells me to send it to Logitech for repairs, I should mention that there are none that I know of in my area, and I'm not willing to pay R300 (ZAR) postage to send a big box 600km away to get my wheel 'checked'. Other than that, it's already nearly 3 years old and way out of warranty...

Now, onto the finer details. The force feedback suddenly stopped working one day a few months back. There was no funny smell or smoke or unusual amount of heat, etc.. Anyways, long story short: I suspect the motor is the culprit here, I can't see any damage or burn marks on the IC boards..

A Google search for the details on the side of the motor returns nothing even remotely related to Logitech or electronics in general, so I'm hoping someone can help point me in the right direction here.

Markings on the side:
RS-545PH-12320
* Made in China
TD417427
50.0V

The * above is a symbol, almost like a logo, but I don't recognise it... I've redrawn it in Paint (see attached), perhaps someone else knows it...? Other than that, I've also attached a photo of the motor with a CD beneath it for a size reference.

I don't play racing games enough to warrant buying a new wheel, and everything else on the wheel still works, I simply don't have any force feedback and the wheel obviously doesn't center itself anymore (no springs, all done with the motor). If anybody can help point me in the right direction with looking for a way to either test / repair / replace this motor, I would be eter... Read more

Hello, I am also facing the same problem as faced by you. The wheel is working fine but there is no ff. I dont know whether the fault lies with adapter or with motor or it is a circuit problem. Could you please tell me how did you manage to solve your problem??

I have a dell Vostro 3500 which was released early 2010. The windows 10 upgrade app tells me I cannot upgrade to windows 10 because of the NVidia GeForce 310m driver is not compatible.
I also have an inspiron 1545 released late 2008 this can be upgraded to windows 10.
I have looked into this driver issue as I have been running windows 8.1 on the Vostro 3500 laptop for sometime. However the graphics driver sometimes crashes and has to recover. While this is useable it is not ideal.
In order to run windows 8.1 I had to download and install the old XP 64bit driver and run it in compatibility mode and as administrator. This took some effort and messing about to get it to work as well as it does.
However I have tried to install windows 10 preview on the system it will not let me install at all so I cannot even get to the point where I can try the windows XP driver. When I try to install directly on this system.
However I did install windows 10 preview on a different dell laptop the is compatible and them moved the hard drive into the Vostro 3500 to see what would happen.
Windows 10 worked on the laptop except for the GeForce 310m which had a exclamation mark in device manager. and it too sometimes crashed and had to recover
This is telling me the only thing stopping this laptop running windows 10 is the lack of a dell GeForce 310m driver
Will dell be releasing an updated driver for this graphics card as it seams very unfair that one laptop over a year olde... Read more

Answer:Vostro 3500 NVidia ge-force 310m windows 10 driver

Hello
there is a work around for this problem. go into your device manager, select Display adapters.
where you see Nvidia go into it and click on the driver tab. at the bottom uninstall the driver, remove it completely.
your screen will go black and flash but don't worry, it comes back in 640x480 ( hehe )
restart the laptop, you will now have no drivers at all. come back to dell.com and download the video driver again, you are looking for this file only R287485.exe
www.dell.com

these are the Intel HD video drivers and are more stable then the Nvidia drivers too.
Happy Windows 10 dude.

Hi all,

I am trying to rotate some video files. For some reason my cell phone recorded all the videos 90 degrees counter clockwise even though it was displayed the correct way on the cell phone screen. I know there is an option in Windows Movie maker (which is free) to rotate these videos to the right orientation.

When I try to open Windows Movie maker it states "Move maker has stopped working" and then it closes. I have tried these steps and nothing has worked:

1. Uninstalled, re-downloaded and reinstalled "Windows Essentials" (which has movie make in it) and restarted PC.
2. Attempted to start Movie maker in safe mode (command prompt, type CD \program files\movie maker, and then press ENTER - Type moviemk.exe /safemode, and then press ENTER.
3. Uninstalled and re-installed the latest driver for my video card (GTX 560) and not mess with any settings.
4. Double checked I have all of the most recent Windows updates.

Here are my specs:
OS - Windows 7
Processor - Intel i7 3770k
Video Card - Ge Force GTX 560

The other interesting thing is Firefox will not open regularly either unless I start it in safe mode (hold down the shift key). It will run ok when started in safe mode. FF gives me the error message when not started in safe mode ("Firefox closed unexpectedly while starting. This might be caused by add-ons or other problems....")

Hello everyone!

I am looking for information on a issue I have when I open Delta Force Task Force Dagger.

The game will actually open two instances of itself, I will be able to play in the one that pops up but when I click on the Exit button there is still a instance on the start bar. I have to maximize that then it goes back into the game which at that point I have to click the exit button again and then the program is closed.

I checked on Novalogic's web site support and even emailed them but no resolve either way.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Windows 10 won't install on my machine because it has a compatibility issue with my Nvidia GTX 780m graphics card. There are signed drivers for my gfx card available on the Nvidia website, which I have downloaded.
It there a way I can force Windows 10 to install, overriding the issue it has with the gfx card?
Before anyone suggests, I'm not removing the gfx card because it's in an Alienware laptop.

Delete everything out of C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download
In Windows Updates, Click to search for updates, leave the window open but dont hit search yet
Open command prompt as Admin and type "wuauclt.exe /updatenow" but DONT HIT ENTER
In Windows Update, Click to search
While it is searching hit enter on the command prompt
You're now downloading W10

This is so you can force the update if your wave has been selected yet.

Answer:How to force nvidia to use 1680x1050

Try using the Nvidia control panel and select the native resolution setting and use monitors built in scaling, I think you may have to use a DVI cable to get that option though, which is the best option anyway if you have it.

Yeah, I can fix it no problem for you.

Right click on the standard vga in device manager. Properties. Details tab. Change dropdown to hardware ids. Copy and paste results to here. No screenshot as alternative, please.

I'll make a custom .inf for you and tell you what to do to install.

In the meantime, download latest NVIDIA driver package from their site for any desktop card, like an 8800, doesn't matter.

Extract to C:\NVIDIA and await further instructions and my edited .inf.

Also, are you running x86 or x64 Windows?

Source : Olhar Digital: Notícia: Usuários dizem que Microsoft instala Windows 10 nos PCs à força

full article detailed in English : Microsoft upgraded users to Windows 10 without their OK

Internet users of predecessor versions of current Microsoft operating system are reporting on the Internet that the company is installing the new version of Windows, 10 without their permission.

According to what was reported in forums like Reddit, some computers are automatically restarted and then Windows Update starts the upgrade process of the Microsoft product without any chance of hindrance by the user.

According to InfoWorld, the update may be being automatically recommended by the program in the Windows Update list, update center that usually search for drivers and minor repairs and modifications to the operating system.

Microsofthad reportedin February that itwas ready tolaunch a generalupdateofthe planfor the newWindowsversiontoput it asrecommendedin theupdate center. For those whodo not want toinstall, just go to theWindows Updatein ControlPanel, notethe nextscheduled updatesandthenclearany operatingsystem upgrademention.

Even evaluated by critics positively, Windows 10 does not please everyone. The main fear regarding the update is compatibility with software running on versions 7, 8 and 8.1, but it may fail if the operating system is updated.

To check what updates have been installed, or have failed to install open settings > Update and security > Advanced options > View your update history

From what I've read here on the forums W10 does a cumulative update, meaning all things needing an update/patch are done every time you update. Ideally you would have the most recent updates and OS version/build after updating.

While you're in settings click System > About to see what version and build you have, the most recent for W10 Home and Pro are version 1511, OS build 10586.494. I've included a screenshot snip of mine below:

Hi guys.

I just installed a new hard drive in my uncle's desktop. The drive is a 320GB Western Digital E-IDE.

I installed XP Pro and it turned out that it was on the 'I' drive. Why did this happen, and what can I do to force it to install on 'C' next time (ie, today). I have already fubared the install by attempting to change the drive letter from the OS.

Thanks.

Answer:How to force Windows to install on drive letter C:?

The only sure way to fix it to pay attention during the setup process. It shows you what drive letter will be assigned, so I never understand why there's shock and surprise at the end if it isn't C. Chances are, he has other hard drives and/or a card reader in this computer as well. Since it sounds like you need to do a fresh install again, unplug those other drives, and you should be using the C.

I set everything in the the Nvidia Control Panel to force the system to use my Nvidia Geforce 850M GPU, since I noticed that it wasn't ever switching. I also set it to display on the screen what GPU the Physx engine is using, and it always uses the onboard Intel GPU. I also checked my system information, and the Nvidia card is listed as a render-only card. From what I've googled, that means that it isn't being fully utilized. Does anyone have information on this? My games seem fairly slow compared to what a couple of sites have said my card should be able to handle. For example, Arkham Knight has to run on low graphics for my FPS to be decent and not lag. I know I'm on a laptop, but my system specs should be able to handle more.

You need to go into the BIOS setup and disable the onboard graphics. While there check that BIOS is using the correct PCI-E socket.

Hello all,

Got a little problem with my display. Once in a while, upon starting XP, my screen size would look like it was around 800x600; even though my NVIDIA setup was assuring me the actual screen size was 1024x768. This was simply fixed, 'cos I just restarted Windows and everything was sorted.

However, now the same thing has happend and I can't change the resolution back to the visually correct size!

I've downloaded the lastest drivers for both my CRT monitor and graphics card and that still won't help!

Anyway got any ideas?

Now my laptop too slow and restart every time. Now When I run windows 10 TP SetUp, it always failed to install. The set up says, " we can't tell if your system is ready please try again", can you give more tips to install windows 10 TP to change the expired evaluation copy of product key?

Answer:How to force install Windows 10 technical preview to my laptop?

Do a clean install from ISO - format the machine.

Hi,

I'm try to run Steam VR Performance Test software on my P40 Yoga, but it fails to see my Nvidia graphics adapter. I found a topic which describes how to set Nvidia adapter per application, but this did not solve case. Also, I disabled Intel 520 adapter from device settings, this did not help either as the system did not find the Nvidia adapter after disabling Intel adapter.

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Switching-between-Nvidia-and-Intel-onboard-Grap...

I wonder if it is possible to somehow set the Nvidia adapter to be the one and only available adapter for the system (W10 Home). Has anyone tried this?

I bought the Acer Aspire 8920G and it comes with the the Nvidia Geforce 9500M video card, the website i bought it from said it is full hd 1920x1080 as well as all the reviews i've seen on it, however the resolution is maxed out at 1680X925. My friend has the 6920G with the same video card and his will do the full HD res. The weird thing is that even the sticker on the laptop it's self says it's full HD?

OK, just a quickie here. I really want to get an N-force mobo. I have heard good things about them. However, I will probally want to put an ATI card into it. Will it make any difference what so ever to the performance of games etc or do NForce 2 boards simply prefer Nvidia cards?

cheers
Tom

Answer:Will an N-Force Board work better with an NVidia gfx card?

None whatsoever. It will work just as well with an ATI card as it will with an nVidia.

So, i have a laptop with optimus graphics (intel/nvidia), and i'm looking for a way to run windows system files with nvidia graphics. Small info : laptop bios doesnt have any settings about optimus graphics, so we are talking about in-windows solutions only. The thing is, that its not only windows system files (windows desktop manager, i.e.) that does not run on nvidia graphics, its also some programs, like windows experience index. Nvidia control panel doesnt work in this case - i can select i.e. wdm.exe, but intel graphics is selected and the option is greyed out and it doesnt let me change it, setting preferred graphics and restarting pc doesnt work either.

Answer:Force system file to use nvidia instead of intel

Where did you get your graphics drivers? IMHO For the dual graphics to work as intended your normally have to get the driver package from the laptop manufacturer. Especially if its mixed like Intel NVidia. Installing separate drivers from say Intel and NVidia doesn't always work out as it should. My laptop is AMD APU and AMD discrete graphics so I can go right to AMD for my driver.

Hai everyone,

I have a problem that's bugging me for a pretty long time.

I have a Lenovo b560 with Intel HD integrated and nVidia GrForce 310M. I haven't found the option to change my primary display adapter to the nvidia one anywhere.

Is it anyhow possible?

Answer:Force nVidia GeForce 310m over Intel HD

Just found out that disabling/uninstalling the Intel HD adapter won't switch to the GeForce one for primary either, it goes to VGA graphics adapter or smth like that but just can't get it on the nVidia one :/

As some of you may remember, back in December I was in a quandary about buying a new video card. I was looking at a pair of SLI GTX460 cards, or the new GTX570. I went with the 570 with a bit of trepidation because I knew the GTX560 was on its way, but only knew it was to be released in "Q1 2011" which could be as late as March. Well, the GTX560 was "rebranded" as the GTX560Ti, resurrecting the "Ti" moniker from the old Geforce 3 & 4 days (think waaaay back to the AGP days of 2001-2002), wouldn't you know it, Nvidia released the card to the public just yesterday, Jan 25 2011. The price is certainly right (+/- $260US), and after reading a few reviews, I REALLY wish I would have waited a few more weeks and grabbed a pair of the 560s for an SLI set up. Several reviews show the GTX560Ti outperforming the (formerly) legendary GTX480 in some benchmarks, sometimes by a considerable margin. So, enough of my babbling. Here's some links for those interested in this new rockin' card from Nvidia:

I have a 8500GT Graphics card
On my Acer flat screen monitor (viewing area 33.5cm across x 27cm down) circles do not appear round, except at a resolution of 1280x1024 where the text on menu & tool bars, dektop icon descriptions, etc appear tiny, almost impossible to read.
All other resolutions circles appear as ovals.
I have set the screen font size to 96dpi as a result of this advice:

Any advice to have this problem solved will be appreciated.

If the circles are proportional at 1280 x 1024, they should be proportional also at 1024 x 768, 800 x 600 and 640 x 480.

O.K., I bought a NVidia GE-Force 8500 a few hours ago... But when I opened my PC the PCI Express Bus Port was not installed (better usage - THe slot doesn't exist... I Have a spot to place one, but not one installed)... Is it possible to install the Graphics Card in another Bus Port (I have one other one, looks sort of like so:----  ----------------------However the graphics card is too long for this port and placed the other way around             ----------------------  ----(NOTE: The uninstalled bus port is placed further back and the graphics card looks like it would fit right over it if a Bus Port was there)Or do I have to get the port installed? If the latter is required, Where do you suggest that I get the Bus Port installed?Hope I provided enough information,~SimiP.S. If your going to suggest a store, please use a common one (such as Circuit City or Best Buy, etc.)

Answer:PCI-E Bus Slot for NVidia Ge-Force 8500 not installed?

You may have to get by with a Regular PCI Graphics Adapter, but standard PCI will not work well with todays games. Your system is lacking a 16x PCI-E slot which is required for the video card/ graphics adapter and you cant just add PCI-E slots. Easiest way to upgrade and get PCI-E would be to replace the motherboard with one that does have PCI-E 16x.Sorry for the bad news!

I recently saw an article from Jez illustrating how to use the Nvidia Control Panel to force games like Halo Wars: Definitive Edition to use the Nvidia GPU rather than the integrated graphics. Using the "add" function, I could not find Halo Wars or any of my other UWP games in order to make those changes.
I asked about this in the comments section and Jez responded by telling me to use a file path search rather than searching for the title. I must admit, after trying to do exactly that, I don't think I was doing it correctly.
I'm a console gamer and I'm just now getting into PC gaming thanks to UWP and Xbox Play Anywhere. So I have no idea how to do any of these tasks that may be trivial to people who have gamed on PC before. The upcoming Game Mode update will likely solve this problem but until then I would like to ensure that my games are using the proper resources.
So i guess my question is: Can someone please give me a step-by-step on how to find the UWP games using Nvidia Control Panel?.. Please explain this under the assumption that I know absolutely nothing. Simply saying "search the file path instead of searching the title" didn't seem to help much since the Windows Store games/apps seem to be locked/hidden by default. When using the "add" function and searching under user profile (where the Windows Store games/apps are supposedly saved), all the folders are seemingly empty. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I have a problem.

I run a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine that amongst other things, acts as a media store/server. I recently got a Windows Phone 7 handset that can only synchronise content via Zune (ridiculous, I know), but Zune refuses to install on Server 2008 R2, saying it can only be installed on XP and Windows 7.

I have installed most of the Win 7 components missing from Server 2008 R2 so I'm not worried about compatibility, I just want to know, how can I force install an application to an OS that it is not 'allowed' to be installed on.

If I can't get Zune onto the Server, I'm effectively barred from transfering music and video to my phone. Please help.

Hi,

I'm not sure whether this issue should be listed under the Programs and Apps category. Perhaps you could put me right here.

I'm finding my WMP is not able to play my Audible .aa and .aax audiobooks, and will not import them. This has been a problem for the past 3-4 months, before that WMP (v12) worked OK. I've removed its library so that it can rebuild it suspecting a corrupt library, but when I point it to the area where my audiobooks are located, it does not recognize them. It's probably a DRM issue, and I was hoping that a re-install of WMP might help fix the problem. I believe this is best accomplished by letting a Win10 update to run, but perhaps this is wishful thinking. Alternatively, does WMP need to be authorized with Audible in order to play these files - if so, how do I do this?

I can't find WMP in the Programs and Features system tool, so can't remove it. I've tried installing WMP11 but this fails because the version in my system is a higher number (v12.0.14393.82). I've tried downloading WMP12 but the sites that claim they have it available, cause either my MacAfee or Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to block the download.

I would appreciate any suggestions you can offer me.

Paul.

I think MP12 is part of Windows. Go to Turn Windows features On/Off, deselect MP12, reboot, reselect it then reboot again. There are also 3 Troubleshooters for MP12 you can try.

Hi all,

on my girlfriend's pc I just installed a Nvidia Ge Force 6200. After rebooting, Seven installed the driver "Nvidia Ge Force 6200 - WDDM etc."
I instead installed latest Nvidia drivers from website (280.26). After this, windows performances show a score for Windows Aero only of 2,0. My question is: installing the latest drivers from website, is really better than keeping the ones installed by Seven? Thanks in advance and sorry for my English. Bye.

Answer:Doubt about best drivers for Nvidia Ge Force 6200 AGP 512Mb Ram

lucatomjoad, welcome to the Seven Forums.

Just installed one of those in my kids computer to replace a dying 9800 Pro (step backwards in performance, but $30.00 was cheaper than a new computer), and it gets the following,

Can't say how it would do with the latest as I avoiding using it after seeing some of the comments about the 280.26 here and elsewhere so went with the previous WHQL driver,

NVIDIA DRIVERS 275.33 WHQL

Also what was in it before and did you remember to uninstall the drivers for it before making the swap? If you did uninstall the previous cards driver, depending on which chipset is on the motherboard it may also take a re-install of the AGP driver (part of the chipset drivers, not from the cards driver) for the new card/drivers to work properly.

The good news - if you grab the latest drivers then you will have noticed that GeForce Experience has received updates. If you are up-to date just hit check for updates in GeForce Experience. The bad news, Nvidia is forcing (in the near future) its Game Ready drivers to be downloaded through GeForce Experience. That means the software (which the majority of people feels is bloatware) will become mandatory to be able to download first wave drivers.

Firstly i'd just like to point out im not the greatest with computers, but i am a fast learner

Basically i've been using my computer with its onboard graphics for the last six months. I decided i wanted a seperate graphics card for a game i wanted so i picked up a g-force fx5200 128mb.

Put it in, left my monitor plugged into old port (expecting to install software when i rebooted) ...started up my computer and the monitor stayed black, so i plugged it into the new fx's port and it came on...

...however even though my monitor is now running through the new card my computer seems to have no knowledge of it, it doesnt show up in control panel or on any hardware scans. Tried just running the disc that came with the card but that seems to just quickly run through the install process but no icons appear like it has properly installed and still unable to play the game?!?!?

So if you could put me on the right track it would be much appreciated!! If theres any specs you need to know just gimmi a shout.

Thanks guys!!!

Answer:BIG problems with nvidia G-Force FX5200 graphics card- Help!!! Plz

depending on your computer type, ther eare several ways of disab ling the onboard graphics adapter (you want to do this). this can eb done via the bios, or by disabling it in device menager. then you need to download and install the latest nvidia drivers (www.nvidia.com) for your card. upon the prescribed reboot you should have full functionality.

PS > i hope you don't expect to play anythign special, because the fx5200 is a lackluster card.

I have all of the latest updates from Microsoft and run AVG Anti-Virus FREE program. I just scanned my computer and it was 'clean'. I use CCleaner on a frequent basis, at least once a week, to keep 'junk' off of my computer.

I have searched all over the Internet for a solution to my issue, including the Major Geeks Forum and can't find anything that even addresses this issue. Mind you, my video card has been working just fine, until about a week or so, ago! I don't have a clue what has happened.

Bottom line, I have NO 3D capabilities on my video card and until a week ago, I did. Everything else works, my video displays a good, clear, crisp picture on my monitor and I can set my resolutions to the proper ones for my monitor and the refresh rate is just fine. But, no 3D capabilities!!!

I put in my husband's video card, thinking it would maybe help, nothing, still no 3D capabilities. That card also, has 3D capabilities.

I am getting an Update message from my Nvidia Gforce Experience Software , regarding a New Game Ready Driver Version 355.60

I currently have a Game Ready Update , Version 353.62 which i updated on 20th July 2015.Just so you know , i also updated my Nvidia graphics Driver (Nvidia Gforce Experience forced me to update Cuz it stopped me from doing any editing in Nvidia Control Panel. So after i accepted the Updates installation , i was allowed to edit Nvidia Control Panel again) , which is now letting me play games at their MAX.For instance , i am playing Assassin's Creed Unity , with TXAA Anti Aliasing ON.

So , anyway , do i really need to install this latest Nvidia Gforce Game Ready Driver Version 355.60 update ?

Answer:Are Nvidia G Force Game Ready Drivers Updates important ?

You don't have to install it if your current drivers are running fine, however most gamers like to keep their graphics drivers up to date. If you decide to udate the drivers follow NVIDIA GeForce Experience: A Beginner's Guide to perform a clean install.

Personally I like to update my graphics drivers manually, but if Experience is your preferred method then that is the best route to take.

When i click on check for updates it says no updates are available & none of the recently installed updates had that name. When i looked at the update history it says it failed to install this update 8 times between yesterday morning & today. I tried uninstalling the updates that added the free upgrade to windows 10 thinking it would make it stop but it didn't because windows update tried installing windows 10 before it asked me to reinstall the updates that i uninstalled. I reinstalled the updates because removing them didn't solve my annoying problem. Is there a way to force a program to install in the x86? I have a program that worked great in XP and would like to run it in Win7 Ultimate. I can't get it to install. What I have found in different articles is that some get it to work and some don't. I have tried all the compatibility tweeks and several things found online. The error I get is "create fail for window VuePrint, 0,TVuePrintWin". I thought maybe if it was installed in the x86, that it might work.

Answer:Force to install in X86

I assume you have set the XP SP3 Compatibility on the Installer exe?

Allow it to work as admin?

If this fails then

Look at the original Program requirements. As it seems that it is expecting another sub-Library to be installed that may not be functional in Windows 7.

Otherwise, back to the author I'm afraid. (

64 bit was unstable on my other computer so it was installed in 32 bit mode which worked great..

both 32 & 64 bit are on in install file.

The IT guy got it installed in my Win 7 setup but I can?t get a hold of him to see how he forced the 32 bit install

Any ideas

Short version:
The problem is, that even with the XP cd shipped with my computer, I am NOT able to choose to make a repair install!

With background information:
My XP has, since my computer was brought to me by HP, shown ambiguous properties. It functions as a XP Home, not allowing remote desktop connections, editing of security settings etc. Nevertheless the cert. of authenticy under the laptop states a serialnumber for Win Xp Pro.

And, when trying to repair install xp on top of the existing one using a XP Home disc, I wound up in a dual boot-state, being able to choose from XP Home (newly installed) or XP Pro (existing, broken install).

Also, the XP installation cd shipped with the computer is of type XP Pro sp1...

The problem is, that even with the XP pro sp1 cd, I am NOT able to choose to make a repair install!

Now is there any way to force this option available? I personally know these systems are the same, while the Windows installation program does not!

Important info:
The reason the installation is broken is that I moved the hard drive to another (this) computer, where I want to do a repair install to be able to use it. Standard procedure ey? (Followingly, the cd came shipped with the first computer, not this one)

PS. I do have a another partition on the disk containing another XP-installation, but as it is "truly hidden", the windows installation program interprets this partition as unallocated space. I case you might think this might be a part of ... Read more

How do I do that in XP? I have a memory card reader that HAS to have specific drivers from a floppy I have. XP keeps automatically installing its crappy ones. I click Update Driver and choose the floppy ones but it says the ones installed are a better match. I know it can be done. How?

Answer:Force Driver Install

pay attention when it forces you to use the crappy driver
note its location, navigate to it, rename the driver
(just add "old" to the back before the extention)
then uninstall the device in device manager
Start > Run > (type) devmgmt.msc

then reinstall it, this time when it looks for the driver it wants it cant find it and you can make it eat the one you want

then go back and name the driver back to its original name, just in case you need it at some point

its never failed me yet, Ive had to do that for one of my NICards a couple dozen times
and it also doesnt "have" to be on a FDD it can be anywhere you like as long as you can navigate to it
I have a central repository of hardware drivers organized into a folder heirarchy
provided I have LAN access and the drive is mapped with that box I can grab them off the NAS itself
otherwise I generally employ a flash drive

Does anyone know how I can force install AMD 11.6 Mobility drivers for an unsupported card? AMD's normal installers haven't been updated for my card (6750M) and as a result the installer just skips the driver install part. Can I just use the Windows driver installer and manually locate the driver files? Or is there some stuff that I have to fiddle with in the installer files? Thanks.

Answer:Force Install Drivers?

Going to be a long wait if this is the Macbook in your specs. Not likely to ever get the Windows driver even running in Bootcamp to install without adding the DevID for the mac version of the card to the INF, which you can do yourself. If you didn't delete it after attempting to install, you should have an AMD folder in C:\. If it is there go to,

C:\ATI\Support\11-6_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl\Packages\Drivers\Display\W76A_INF

or similar depending on what it shows on yours. This is where the downloaded exe extracts the install files. Once there open then INF there (there is two of them in mine, and if two on yours open both) in Notepad. Next open Device manager and locate the video card; right click and select Properties and click on the Details tab. From the dropdown select hardware IDs and then go back to the INF(s). From there add or modify one of the lines under,

[ATI.Mfg.NTamd64.6.1]

This is a good one to change,

AMD Radeon HD 6750" = ati2mtag_Evergreen, PCI\VEN_xxxx&DEV_xxxx&SUBSYS_xxxxxxxx

replacing the xxxx with what it shows from Device Manager. Save the changes and then run the setup.exe in the main AMD folder. No promises but that should get the driver to install.

Hi,

My motherboard supports UEFI but I find it to be buggy and rather unstable. I would like to do a clean reinstall and go back to legacy BIOS+MBR. I don't have any drives over 4TB so this should not be a problem.

How can I accomplish this?

Answer:How do I force Win7 to install using MBR (not GPT)?

Far wiser techs than I will appear eventually and ask for computer specs [mobo], UEFI/BIOS version, etc. I think there is a thread or two on what to include with this type of question. I'm new here, so I can't tell you where those help threads are.

I have a Toshiba laptop that has a Conexant audio subsystem. The sound system is misbehaving and I suspect a driver issue. Here is the problem: I was running windows 7 and upgraded via the free upgrade offer to Win 10. Everything worked OK for a while and then the problem with the audio system appeared. I checked the Toshiba website and they list no drivers for Win10. I cannot find enough specifics about the Conexant audio system on my laptop to get one from the Conexant website. (if they even have w10 drivers)

My question is: how can I force Windows 10 to download and install a win10 compatible driver for the audio subsystem? Aside from going into the Device Manager and finding the device, how can I find out what driver MS is installing for the Conexant device?
Thanks
J

Answer:How to force W10 in (re)install a driver from the MS repositiory for W

Hi, rt click properties, Driver in device manager should show the version, and Driver Details more.

If you want to force a complete reinstall, then in device manager, when uninstalling the driver, tick the check box to also delete it. Then reboot.

Downloading from the manufacturer's site carries the usual caveat of it not being fully compatible for laptops, but it has certainly helped me in a couple of instances.

So I bought this TV tuner
Newegg.com - Leadtek TV2000XP RM Tuner Card with Remote Control PCI Interface - Retail

Come to find out, there are no drivers for 64 bit. So, I tried going to device manager and pointing it to the folder where the drivers are located but it keeps failing to install immediately. It doesn't even act like it's trying.

They have 64 bit drivers for a model that's similar to this one, but it keeps failing to install immediately for those too. The drivers they provide are all INF files. Any idea how I can force these drivers to install to see if I can get it working? I'll be pretty ticked if I can't get this thing to work.

Answer:How do I force a 32 bit driver to install on 64 bit Vista?

No you can not force 32 Bit drivers to install on 64 Bit. If you are lucky you might be able to convert them. But you can not force isntall them.

So I finally got Windows10 up and running. And activated even! Despite having been an insider it was looking like I was going to have to buy a license, but at the last minute it Automagically Activated itself. For whatever reason, but I somehow got "stuck" on build 10130. I finally got tired of trying the MS Staff suggestions last night, downloaded the media creation tool and did a clean install. YAY.

So unrelated completely to the OS Upgrade, I have a question without much hope of an easy answer.

I have a piece of software (We'll call it "Auntie Em's It Really Is Legal Here Casino.") When you install this package that isn't an online casino, it doesn't give any of the standard "options" most installers give (such as destination directory). The program folder--that should be located in Program Files x86 where it belongs--ends up as an orphan director in the root of C. Like it or not, there it is to annoy the crap out of you every time you look at the C drive.

During an install issue with Win10 I read somewhere somebody explained an option in installing Windows that let you specify a whole bunch of variables beforehand (options usually reserved for an Enterprise deployment but there nonetheless). Is there a way to get into this mode (PreDeployment?) for all installers or is it just a gem specific to Windows? Anyone know?

I'm going to assume this option isn't an option and ask the follow up and that is, how exactly can I move that ... Read more

Hey all...

Was running AVAST 7.x fine for years, then just updated W7 with SP1 (and all subsequent updates and patches) and afterward AVAST was causing lagged boot time up to 4 min. (Verified it was AVAST doing it by selective boot using MSCONFIG and by looking at diagnostics / event viewer.)

Have not wanted to update AVAST as I don't like the newer versions.

Uninstalled AVAST v7x and reinstalled with same result.

Uninstalled again and reluctantly installed newest AVAST, 2015 beta 10.something. (File & Web shields only, no cloud services, no participation, no streaming updates and no auto-program update.) Boot time about 1:08 but the computer is unusable for a couple minutes while AVAST hogs resources.

REALLY disliking the new AVAST, I used their uninstall tool in SafeMode to remove it, then used a reg program to seek out all instances of AVAST and ALWIL in the reg and deleted all those keys. Also cleared all left over folders, including in user/appdata. Rebooted.

Downloaded AVAST v6.01367 (last version of 6), got offline, then tried to install that. But it pops up a notice that I am trying to install an old version and it will download the newest one. It gives me no choice in the matter.

When I previously had reinstalled v7 a popup says I am trying to install an old version, but gives me the option to continue. But v6 has no option to continue.

Anyone know if a different older version won't do this, or how I can get around it? Thanks!

Answer:How to force install of old version of AVAST?

I downloaded the oldest 6 version (6.0.1270) which installed without a hitch, unlike v6.0.1367. Weird. Only thing I did different before trying to install this version was cleaning my browser cache, which I don't see how that would have made a diff since I was offline anyway. IAC this is solved. Now just hoping it doesn't cause a 4min boot problem like v7!

EDIT: Argh..... 2min boot. Back to the drawing board.

I just bought a brand new custom built PC, but upon trying to install my video card, i started getting some problems. At first it was ok, everything was all zoomed in, but i managed to make my way to the Nvida website and download the drivers and rebooted. After rebooting, i no longer got a screen. It was just black, after restarting a few times i switched back to the onboard gfx card and the screen showed. I know they are the correct drivers and i know its in the right slot. My computer stats:

AMD athlon 2800+ 2.12 Ghz Processer with 512 MB Ram and an 80 Gig Drive.

OS: Windows XP Home

Gfx card: G-Force 4 MX 400 PCI 64 MB Ram card.

Hey guys I am on windows 7 (home prem so cant do the group fix), atheros AR9285 802.11b/g/n and trying to install a different driver for it (net card)

Everytime i try to install the driver windows says they have the most up to date one and i cant force install. I have spent hours reading and have manually selected windows updates. I have backed up drivers and uninstalled the driver and tried to install but windows seems to find a way of getting the old driver.

I have also installed programs to override windows verification of drivers etc.... tried a lot and spent hours!! I have searched threads here and elsewhere and tried all people say but still windows thinks it is helpful...

Does any one have experience in how to do this as it is driving me insane!
Endlessly going on tangents to do something i thought would be simple and a bit of intellectual curiousity!
thanks a lot in advance!

I am working on a friend's PC and they tell me that IE 6 crashes frequently. I have observed it crashing on shutdown 100% of the time. They installed IE 7 and found out that it is not compatible with a payroll system that they use so they went back to IE 6. I tried reinstalling IE 6, but get messages saying that the installed version is newer and will not allow me to install. I have tried choosing "Install" from IE.inf to force a complete reinstall, but they don't have their XP Home CD anymore and it wouldn't allow me to use my XP Pro CD for this. I have downloaded IE6setup.exe and used the command line option for downloading the setup files only. I can't use this folder for the IE.inf Install either. Does anyone know how I can force XP to install this older IE 6? I personally prefer firefox and suggested this to them, but the payroll app. that they use is a concern and apparently is not compatible.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:[SOLVED] Force IE 6 to install even if it's an older version

Sorry to reply to my own message, but I thought of something else. When installing IE.inf it would read from my XP Pro CD up until one file. The filename was IEDW.exe. A Google search shows that is for crash detection. I don't have that on my XP CD or on an XP Home volume lic. CD from my work.

Conexant Audio devices have been troublesome for Windows 10 since the earliest previews, and still are. on 2 YOga 2's I config'd, on one HP AMD-based G4, on one Thinkpad I've worked with - all Conexant drivers intalled would fail sooner or later [usually soon] after installing Windows 10 drivers either/both via wupd or OEM. devices work fine under windows 8.1 and 7. The workaround was/is to switch the OEM device for Microsoft HID audio device driver.

On a UX305FA Asus Zenbook, for the most part the conexant device works under Windows 10.
But: is there a way to ALSO install alongside it the MS "High Definition" device OR the now-missing Intel HD HDMI Audio Device. [that is another issue: Intel HDMI audio only succeeds install about 50% of the time in Windows 10.]

appreciate your help
c

Answer:Can we force-install a HID Audio device IN ADDITION to OEM?

To avoid Windows Update replacing working drivers, see this tutorial how to hide the relevant updates so they won't install. As far as I know, a device can only have one driver. You cannot install OEM and Microsoft together, it is either one or the other, OEM preferred. To manually force install a specific driver, click on the search icon and type device, then click to open Device Manager. Then expand the Sound, video and game controllers. Right-click on the audio adapter and select Update Drivers. Then select the last option. Then also the last option, until you see a Have disk button. Click on this button and browse to the files where you extracted the driver files. Select the first model from the list and proceed, even if Windows may warn you it cannot confirm it is compatible. After installing the driver, restart the computer to take effect. Then hide the relevant updates to keep Windows Update from replacing it.

Good morning,

I couldnt find the question to this answer, so hoping you guys can help me out where google failed.

I work in Germany, but my colleagues are all over the EMEA region. Most have windows 7 Pro, but finally started to migrate them to Enterprise (Volume Licensing yay), but when I image their machines here in Germany and install some custom software for them, it happens that from time to time, the application detects that I am in Germany and doesnt offer to install it in English, instead it just bangs on German.

Is there a way/registry setting, that forces applications to install in English?

Cheers!!!

Is it possible to set up 2008 R2 onto a specific drive letter?

In the past I've had two partitions setup on a drive, C: and D: both as primary partitions. I've put a bare-bones OS on C: and then the actual boot OS onto D:. This works fine. It leaves me with a working boot OS on the same drive in the even something goes horribly wrong with the actual one on D:

But this is less than practical with an SSD, as it wastes a lot of space.

In the past it's been a hellaciously difficult task to rejigger drive letters. Windows fought you on it, enough to make it nearly impossible.

But I'm wondering if it's any less worse these days.

I've worked around this somewhat in the past by using a temporary drive as C:, doing both installs, removing the C: drive and then repairing the boot loader on the 2nd D: drive. I can't recall for certain if I had to fiddle with the DOSDEVICES registry or not.

Is it possible to force use of a given drive letter on a partition? As in, just one on the drive and call it D: instead of letting it call itself C:

Answer:install 2008 R2 and force drive letter?

you can use the barebones OS's computer management console to set the drive letter and path for the 2nd drive and then run the install for the secondary OS from within the primary OS environment. the bootloader does not use drive letters anyway as it does it by drive and partition number.....

Hello, I put together a new computer, and I'm using a Corsair Force Series 3 SSD and a Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD. I set my SSD as primary boot device and installed Windows 7 on it. Last night I noticed my HDD was showing up in Disk Management as Unpartitioned. I decided to go ahead and format it. This is what is currently showing.

I'd like to have Windows 7 and 1 game, Star Wars the Old Republic. on the SSD, and have the rest of my files load to my HDD. SWTOR did manage to load to my SSD automatically. But it seems everything else is going to SSD as well. I was going to reboot my computer and make the HDD my primary boot device, but I didn't know if it was cause a failure to boot. So did I do this correctly or did I screw up? Windows and SWTOR load blazing fast, so I think i'm on the right track. This is the extent of knowledge I have with hard drives.

Hi, We got 1 set of X1 Carbon UNB with 256GB SSD, we have installed the CheckPoint FDE 74HFA3 on it. After the full desk encryption, it does shown the drive has been encrypted 100% ok. When I close down the cover and re-open it, it just keep on showing 'Windows is loading file'. As the disk is encrypted so it cannot find the recovery image (it should not be happen, indeed) I forced to restore the image backup I did before the whole FDE excerise and try it all over again (it normally takes 1 day time)... Greatful if anyone encounter this problem before and any work-around on this...  All I think is the hidden partition from the Lenovo caused the problem or in the worse case, i could erase the whole SSD and clean build a Windows 7 O/S and start over again the FDE process..... Thanks

guys i have a lenovo yoga 2 with haswell i5-4202y, HD4200, and neither the Audio driver for the device [conexant... very buggy drivers] nor the Intel install package result in a HDMI Audio Device being installed.
At one time, I think it was under Windows 8.1, it had such. Now, no such luck.

I just downloaded and installed a relatively new driver package from Intel dated 8/12, but it still did not install HDMI device even though the log shows otherwise [the Intel log I mean.]

Regular audio via speakers and/or headphone jack works ok.

any way to force the install?

So my vista ultimate 64 has got corrupted, i can boot and load programs, but i cant open the control panel *it closes* and i cant access the "view installed updates" in the add/remove programs panel... Otherwise i would uninstall sp1 so i could try to reinstall with my dvd..

I have tried system restore and startup repair to repair some of my problems but those have not worked, and i read online that reinstalling vista as an "upgrade" should solve everything without loosing your data.

Is there any tricks to forcing it? vista wont let you do an upgrade install if your OS is newer than whats on the dvd..

Answer:anyway to force vista to upgrade install over prior same version?

Have you tried making a new DVD with all the service packs and updates slipstreamed? Of course this would mean using another computer since yours won't work, haha..

Any way to force install of Agnitum Outpost Security Suite Free?
Windows 10 blocked it from installing. I wanted to use it on windows 10.

I am getting a little about windows 10. If I want to install something, I should be able to do that.

Answer:Any way to force install of Agnitum Outpost Security Suite Free?

If Microsoft has blocked it, its because there is a serious problem with compatibility, and with an anti-virus tool, that can mean corrupted files.
