Lumia 920, 3 years old, battery drains 4% / hour with no use, but resets battery life when restarted

Question: Lumia 920, 3 years old, battery drains 4% / hour with no use, but resets battery life when restarted

Hi all,
I've owned my Lumia 920 for 3 years now, purchased brand new and always looked after it. I've had no issues until yesterday, except for about 2 months ago the side-camera button stopped working to load the camera app and take photos (app tile and on-screen capture button now).
The night before last, I put my phone on charge whilst I went to sleep and when I woke up in the morning I found that the battery was showing as being in saver mode. I thought the lead had come loose so I let it charge again and confirmed it had the charge icon. When I took out the lead 30 mins later it had even less charge.
I thought the phone might just be going screwy so I did a soft reset (held volume down and power until the screen went off, and then the phone vibrated and reset). When the phone came back to life, it had 100% power.
Within 3 hours I was down to about 50% when it had just been sat on the desk, idle, next to me. I turned the phone off and on again, and the battery life was back up to about 98%.
This continued through the entire day; three times it entered battery saver, but when I reset the phone the battery life jumped back up to it's "real" value but then resumed falsely draining fast.
I thought I'd just let the phone run out of juice but I think it hangs at "5%" (false) battery and won't actually turn itself off. It was at 5% when I went to bed last night, and 8 hours later it was still at 5%. I reset it and it went back to 41% (having not been charged in just over 24 hours, AND seen some use through the day, though being manually reset 3 times in that 24 hour period because it said I was in battery saving mode).
I think I'm going to let the battery ACTUALLY drain and see what happens, but I wonder if you guys have any other ideas, or have experienced this yourself?
Can you get new batteries for Lumia 920s? I thought the phone was entirely sealed.
Thanks

Preferred Solution: Lumia 920, 3 years old, battery drains 4% / hour with no use, but resets battery life when restarted

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My Lumia 950 will not charge or be recognized by the pc until I restart. I have done a Hard Reset (turn device off and on with volume down, followed by volume up, down, power, volume down again) and Windows Device Recovery. My last attempt restoring my Lumia 950 was installing the latest Release Preview of the insider program. I was not installing any insider updates before.
The battery drain is quite consistent. If everything is turned off (wifi, bluetooth, glance, cellular data, no apps open in background) it almost uses the same amount as using the device, roughly 10% drain per hour.
Any advise what to do?

Answer:My Lumia 950 drains battery by 10% / hour since last week, even after Windows Device Recovery Tool.

it is recommended to start afresh after a hard reset , to prevent any bugs. Your battery drain could be because of background syncing of one drive. Photos, mails ,appdata are by default set to sync and upload to one drive to and fro. so could be a reason behind a rapid drain, also i would request you to monitor the behavior for a few days as these devices take a while to sync and set up after a hard reset and consume a lot of battery at first because of background tasks setting up the phone which is not visible to us.

Hi there,

I bought a new Toshiba Sattelite A200-1H2 2-3 weeks ago. Its got a T5440 Core3Duo, 2 GB RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon HD2600GT 256 dedicated (up to 1025 with turbomemory).
I am aware that i got myself a pretty good CPU and GPU and that they cost power.

But is it normal when on POWER SAFE mode my battery drains completely in just over 1 hour??

Elwin

Answer:Satellite A200-1H2 - Battery drains in 1 hour

Hi

The battery working time depends on the notebook usage!
But as far as I know the A200 runs about 1.15h on battery power

Furthermore the notebook was delivered with a standard battery.
If you need more battery power you should buy stronger Battery Pack with 6000mAh or higher.

Hi, I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Y400Intel i7-3630QM 2.4GHz8GB RAM1TB HDDnVidia Geforce GT 650MWindows 8 64-bit This is the first laptop I own (I've always been using desktops) and I first noticed that leaving my laptop in sleep would drain the battery at 10%/hour, so I decided to leave it in hibernate instead. Same thing happens, the battery drains at 10%/hour, so I try Shutting it Down... Same thing happens, Battery drains at 10%/hour. So I removed the battery waited several hours, plugged it back in, and noticed that it does NOT drain to any noticeable amount. All of this is happening when the laptop is not being charged by the way. Any help would be appreciated!

Hey everyone,

I have Windows XP SP2 on an Acer Aspire One A110, 512MB Ram 8GB SSD, Intel Atom, 1.6GHZ Processor, 3-cell battery blah blah...

We'll i used to have 2:47 battery life etc. I have a USB Mouse but the USB is only an adapter not one of those massive hub things... I've decresed my brightness to it's darkest, muted my speakers, cut down on as most apps as possible (Firefox and MSN and ManyCam only running.) I've also applied that hotfix which was supposed to help, but no luck. When i run on battery I get 1:26...MASSIVE difference. I don't think its the battery as I put my brothers battery in and he gets 2:30 on his battery but when it was on my laptop it went to 1:57 Don't know what to do...I don't have an anti-virus EITHER because i was so mad on getting my battery life back up.

Thanks

Answer:Battery life drains quickly!

Most likely your battery might not bre charging fully due to the A/C adaptor plug may be loose and or the connection on your board is loose (common problem with laptops). Another thought is that over a period of time laptop batteries get weaker due to their nature. It may be best to take your computer to the shop and let an expert technician look into this. Really doesn't cost an awful lot...If you are handy you may be able to check this out yourself but sometimes laptop cases are a little difficult to open (without damaging)...I know from experience (cracked my Sony Vaio case when trying to attempt fixing the very same issue)...

Hi, I have had my T430 since August of 2012 at the start of college. I am currently running windows 8.1 pro and I recently just noticed my battery life issues and after installing lenovo settings I discovered that my battery's capacity is at 27% of the original capacity. The battery life is really bad, e.g. it says 15 minutes remaining at 25% on POWER SAVER mode.  I have google this and it said to "reset my battery" but unfortunately 8.1 Lenovo power manager doesn't have that feature.  I am just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for what to do?  Will I just have to get a new battery?

Answer:Lenovo T430 Battery Life 1+ hour on life saver

you would have to have a pre-Windows 8 OS to gain that crucial battery reset function. This is one reason why i dislike running Win 8 on ThinkPad.

More of a heads up than anything. Been using the laptop now for 2 years. Extra-super-special care with the battery, following all tips. Battery lasted about 7 hours at the beginning, after 2 yeards it hardly lasts 4. I know that batteries are not forever but this seems excessive degradation. And no, the battery is not a RECALL.Not sure how it will be for someone that gives it a REAL "portable computer" use.Good luck with yours.NOTE FOR MODERATORS, HP WORKERS ETC: Please don't tell me "I have forwarded your concern blablabla", you guys are awful as a company and already treated me like crap too many times. My laptop is still in warranty and I wouldn't dare let your technicians touch it again after the last mess they did.

Answer:Battery life after 2 years of use

Hi, After 2 years and getting 4hrs is above standard actually but please try the following check to see how good, bad and ugly now.     http://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c04700771 This may also do a recalibrate for battery and give some more breath. For NORMAL batteries, over 400 charging cycles can reduce a lot of power that why vendors only guarantee batteries for one year EXCEPT some workstation and business classe models. Regards.

i am having a nokia lumia 620 since 1 year , i was having developer preview it was running quite good but instantaneously it started to heat up like hell and started causing battery drain . but later i did a software recovery by nokia software recovery tool and got the official 8.1 . even after that it getting hot and causes battery drain . plz help me its out of warranty i even went to 2 nokia care but both of told me different reasons for heating up off the phone .... what should i do

Answer:nokia lumia 620 getting hot as burning pan and battery drains a lot

Use a dark theme, switch off apps that run in background, switch off glance if not required! Turn on location only when you need it! Disable the app sounds, vibration etc from notification centre! Keeping data connection on always drains a lot of battery, so switch it on only when required! Double tap to wake phone also drains a lot battery, use power key instead! Turn off the live tile option for the apps that you don't use much! Lower the lock screen timeout, lower the brightness! Turn off the vibration of Windows keys! Try these, if it could help

Thanks Welcome to Windows Central.
The battery life indicated in the Battery Saver app is just an estimate designed to give the user just an idea on how the apps that are currently allowed to run in the background affect battery life. These are not exact values. What really matters is how long the phone lasts with actual use.
How long does your phone last before you need to recharge it (based on actual time, not the estimates of Battery Saver)?

I have a new M4800 with unbelievably bad battery life. I'm lucky to get 1 hour on battery, sometimes as little as 30 minutes, on light usage (Word, web browsing).
I've gone through the BIOS and power settings and this is the best I've been able to do. Googling hasn't turned up any solutions, so I'm hoping someone here can come up with a solution.

Hello,
I have Lumia 620 and I've just updated the firmware to Lumia Cyan& WP 8.1... After a few minor lags and glitches , the latest is very concerning. Last night my battery was 30%. Normally, it would've lasted for another 10-12 hrs normal use. But in the morning, the battery was "extinct"! What is the problem? I had to recharge it, even if before this recent update, at 30% battery, I was still able to use the phone for another half day or something. I must add, I never let the WiFi / 3G ON, location service is off, and all the background apps are disabled. My Lumia battery "taught" me these hints looong time ago.
The point is my Lumia 620 phone didn't make it thru the night, and that really bothers me. Please advice!!

Secondly it would help to reduce battery consumption by changing EMAIL sync frequency.
Lastly just make sure battery charges to Full and give some settling time.
Just for ur information, "My lumia 620 on WP8.1 with Developer Preview gives around 13 hrs with WiFi full ON and chats [whatsapp, messenger and Hike]"

So I updated my nokia Lumia 525 to the latest software update (WP 8.0). Before update the phone was very good condition, it did not heat up ad battery used to last more than a day. After the update phone gets very hot and battery drains within 4 hours. I have only installed few apps Whatsapp, Viber, skype, weather and Shazam. I close all background runnings apps, and it gives me this issue. First I thought it was email because it kept syncing. I stop email syncing and it is having the same issue. I bought this phone brand new 2 weeks ago. Can anyone from microsoft please check this bug?
P.S. I have deactivated bluetooth, NFC everything else. The phone is used by my mother so she uses only phone calls, whatsapp and Viber. Nothing else.
Thank You.

Seven years ago I bought a Tecra 780DVD, five years ago a Tecra 8100, and two years ago a Tecra S1. They?re all still in regular use and I?ve now used six lithium ion battery packs. My experience suggests these four guidelines are worth observing:

1. It's best to hibernate and remove the battery if the laptop will be idle for more than 2-3 days.
2. Operating lifetime varies quite a lot between battery specimens even with the same operating conditions.
3. Leaving the charger plugged in with the ?fully charged? light on doesn?t seem to do any harm (despite some recommendations).
4. Best not to junk the battery the first time it fails to charge. The trick described below may reset the battery and get more useful life out of it.

Tecras show ?end of life? for the battery by making the battery lamp flash orange or stay off when you try to recharge. Last week when I got back from holiday this happened to the 780 (now a WiFi print server) and it felt like d?j? vu because all four batteries (three on the 780 and one on the 8100) that I?ve previously had fail expired in just the same way ? they failed to charge after 7-14 days of hibernation with the battery left in. I feel this can hardly be a coincidence.

I still had another old 780 battery and an old 8100 battery that both failed about two years ago, so I did some tests. The two 780 batteries showed 10-11 volts on a voltmeter but when I put them in the laptop and connected the charger the charge light still fla... Read more

Hi all, A few months ago I installed Windows 8.1 on my T400 (Type 6475) and ever since have experienced abysmal battery life. I have a 9 cell battery in good condition that gave me at least 5 hours of moderate usage when I was running Windows 7 on this machine. Now I'm lucky to get an hour running Windows 8.1 which just isn't really viable. I've checked the battery on my backup T61 running Windows 7 and still achive perfectly acceptable lifespan with that  - so the battery's not the problem. This is my second clean reinstall of Windows 8.1. I've checked all of my drivers are up to date and are Windows 8.1 versions where they exist. My T400 doesn't have switchable graphics so I don't think it's that causing the issue. Bluetooth is off. I've got Power Manager 6.32 installed and working flawlessly. All settings are as they were when I was running Windows 7 (optimised for battery life when off of AC). Before I give up on Windows 8.1 and return to Windows 7 is there anything else I've missed? Is there any way I can check what's using the battery? I'm not a massive tech-head so be gentle if possible... Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that you are getting a poor battery backup in your Lenovo ThinkPad T400 after upgrading to Windows 8.1.

May I know which power plan you are using in your system?
What Lenovo software dependency package is installed?
Have you updated all the Lenovo resources (firmware, BIOS, drivers, software)?

Refer this document and see if it helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

Answer:New Y510P with poor battery life (less than 1 hour)

Nvidia SLI does not support optimus so you're always running the Nvidia card whether plugged in or using the battery. Sad to say there's no way for Nvidia SLI and Nvidia Optimus to coexist. Nvidia GPUs are optimized for raw performance rather than efficiency so it's completely reasonable to have 1 hour battery life. If you want to get 4 hours of battery life, you have to remove the ultrabay Nvidia GPU. Then remove the Nvidia drivers. Download Intel HD drivers from Intel download center and install it. Then install the Nvidia drivers after you installed the Intel HD drivers. By then, Nvidia Optimus will work and the Intel HD graphics will be used when running on the battery. You can still play 3D games with Nvidia Optimus since the 750M will be activated when the game requires directx. Note that if you decided to put the 2nd 750M back again while you have the Optimus setup, the Intel GPU will be automatically disabled and you'll be running Nvidia SLI again. Also note that disabling SLI in Nvidia Control panel will not enable Nvidia Optimus. You have to physically remove the 2nd GPU for Optimus to work. Sadly, when it comes to performance, you have to sacrifice efficiency just like automobiles. Hope this helps.

I've heard others say that it eats battery, so you're not alone. When installing Facebook and Facebook Messenger, my Nexus 5 froze...the only time it has done so. I'm not saying it was because of Facebook, but it was odd. For that and other reasons I deactivated account and uninstalled.

After 1.5 years, the battery life dropped from about 100 minutes to less than 30 minutes.

I suspected the battery was bad, but after Windows automatically shut down because it thought the battery was empty. I plugged in the power cord for about 10 seconds, started the laptop, unplugged immediately and let it run in the BIOS screen. It was running for more than 45 minutes until the laptop turned off. So

I guess the battery still has high capacity, but somehow the calibration data became invalid.

Is there a way to recalibrate the battery? I did not find such a feature in the BIOS, where all my other notebooks do have such a feature (although I never needed it for the others!)

Regards
Thomas

Answer:Satellite A100 - Battery life dropped from 100min to 20min after 1.5 years

Hi

I think you are a little bit confused regarding the battery life time and the battery performance.
But you shouldn?t be confused because this is nothing unusual.

After about 500 times of charging/discharging, the battery will start to lose the own performance.
This means that after a longer time of usage the battery performance will decrease and someday you would need to replace it.

My 7 years old notebook doesn?t run on battery anymore. The battery power lasts for about 2min even it?s fully charged. I know I should replace it but i use this notebook as ?desktop Pc?. It?s always connected to the mains.

So don?t wonder about your battery performance. It?s a normal behavior.

The HP spectre x360 is advertised as having up to 12.5 hours of battery life. I was so excited when I got it until 4 hours later when it died. So I set out to maximize its battery life to get the advertised 12 hours. Yet, after taking ABSOLUTELY EXTREME measures to extend its battery life to the fullest, I was ONLY able to get 8 hours of battery life. Here's what I did (My laptop is fully updated latest drivers and everything): Generated a Battery Health Report (everything looked good)Used HP's 'Support Assistant' Battery Check and it came back "OK".Turned on 'Powersave Mode' (this dims the screen even at 100%)Reduced the screen brightness to 70%Limited my use to just ONE program (Microsoft Edge) with super quick use of a few other programs.Disabled Cortana.Disabled One Drive sync.Disabled Desktop Slideshow.Disabled ALL auto startup processes services that I knew to be safe to disable. (I disabled things like Bonjour service, google update, microsoft update and adobe update services). Went into advanced power options & set the "Maximum Processor Performance" to 60% (this caps it at 1.48GHz)Even set the WiFi to "Maximum Battery Savings".Then thought "Oh what the hell" and set EVERYTHING to "Maximum Battery Savings" (things like the GPU, the hard drive, etc).Went into the BIOS and disabled the 'eternal flame' LED indicator  on the F5 key. After exactly 8 hours of use I was down to 14% so I turned off the wifi a... hi, I just bought a new ideapad 100s-14ibr 5 days ago [4-24-2017], I noticed seomthing about the battery life that gave me a hunch: Usually when unboxing a new laptop smartphone, etc., it comes with 40-70% of charge from the factory as industry practice. My laptop had 0% charge and could not power on until after 35 minutes of charging.(lithium-ion batteries only lose only about 1-2% of charge per month in storage. Usually a lituim-ion battery that loses its charge (or doesnt hold its charge) is defective.) My laptop only holds a charge for 5 hours on 75% brightness. Im concerned as most review sites, testers and many credible sources indicate that this laptop has a 7+ battery life and some have even got uo tp 9 hours of battery time. Please let me know if this is normal, if this battery life of 7+ hours is reached only on lowest brightness, etc. Because one tester indicated they reached 7 hours of battery on highest brightness and another had the same time with 70% brightness looping a video. any help/feedback is very helpful as quickly as possible. I have a small window to return laptop for an excange. i dont want a refund as this machine exceeded my expectations in performance and other areas. But I need a laptop that give me a ChromeBook battery life of 7-8+ hours but the flexability of having Windows 10.

Lumia 920 got hot and battery drained by 60+%. All apps closed, wifi off, blue tooth off, 3g off, location off, no apps running in background. All off during today, then switched on 3g at lunchtime, surfed the web, then the phone got hot and lost lots of power. See attached image. Has happened 3 times last couple of days.
Any ideas? Phone is less than a year old.

Hi everyone! Since some weeks, I'm facing a big problem with my Lumia 1520. My battery drains too quickly and when I plugged it to charge, it charged to 100% in less than 5 mins. When I take photos also with Lumia Camera, my phone reboots and the battery gets down. I already reset the phone and also use the recovery tools to flash it, but the problem is the same. Somebody can tell me if it's a battery problem or firmware?
Many Thanks

Answer:Battery drains too quickly and Battery gets charge 100% in 10 mins

If you reflashed, sounds like the battery cell has failed.

I'm interested to find out what kind of battery usage people are getting out of their 640.I upgraded from a 630 couple of weeks back which I had charged every second morning.Battery life was great.Im struggling to get the same out of the 640 even with turning off most features, glance, vibration etc..It only lasts a day or just over with medium usage.
Anyone else notice a drop or improvement on battery from their older phones.
I'm now tending to charge my 640 more, like plug it into my laptop while I work,Is this bad for the battery ?

Answer:Lumia 640 battery life

I do not believe that comparing battery live with other people is helpful because what is medium use?
Is 20 minutes playing a game low/medium/high usage and which game?
Could I be that you use your 640 more because it's new and "faster" then your 630? (like playing a game which was not available on the 630)
No problem to charger your battery whenever you want.

Hi
I know people talked a lot about this, but I couldn't find anything that gets close to my usage so let me ask.
How is battery life on your Lumia 730 while browsing web. Because mine drains 6-8% every 20minutes on wifi up to 9% every 20 minutes on 3g. Same goes if I use tubecast. Everything else seems to be fine though. Is this usage normal or could I do something to lower it?
Thanks in advance.

I didn't calculate it, but GSMArena has pretty comprehensive battery life data. Nokia Lumia 730/735 review: Golden mean - page 3 - GSMArena.com
Are the numbers here consistent with your phone?
Although the phone's display uses more power displaying white as is the nature of the tech, you could try enabling battery saver.

Hey, I really need help. I'm having problems with my laptop. It's a dell inspiron 7559 and was bought around January. Recently I have seen that the battery has no longer been as hot as it used to be when I first started using it. Along with the sleeve on the tip of the screen power adapter (below the part where the adapter lights up) has started to come off, exposing the wires. The battery has continually dropped down its percentage rate ever since I bought it, and it won't go back up. It is currently at 0% battery life and it says when you highlight over the battery icon ( plugged in, not charging). It also happens to show the BIO setup when I start the computer and shows that the batteries wattage and type cannot be determined. In the BIOS setup, the ac adapter type is unknown. The battery has not been through any harsh conditions along with the laptop. I have tried removing the battery, starting up the computer with the ac adapter (which is 130 watts), then adding the battery back, and ac adapter, then turning it on, but it had no effects. If I remove my ac adapter while my computer is on ,it instantly turns off. If someone can support me with this issue, it would be gladly appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:Laptop battery not charging, battery not identified, 0% battery life

It sounds likely the charge circuit on the mainboard is damaged.  Contact Dell to have the mainboard replaced under warranty.

Hello, I currently have a 720 and I am planning to buy a 830.
My biggest concern is the battery life.
Usually my 720 lasts for a approx 20 hours.
Should I go ahead with 830?
Thanks

Answer:Need help related to battery life of Lumia 830??

The 720's battery is 2000mAh and the 830's is 2200mAh. However, those numbers alone aren't sufficient because there are other factors to take into account like screen resolution as larger screens tend to require more power.
As ever, the biggest challenge with estimating battery life is how much you use the device and what for. I've just started using a 830 and its battery does seem to be lasting longer than my 925, which also has a 2000mAh battery. I don't know if that is enough help to answer your question, though :-).

Hello. I have a 3yr old Toshiba Satellite laptop that I use every day, on avg. 8 hrs per day for school. The battery used to last about 2.5 hours without needing charging. In the past couple weeks, it only seems to last about an hour before needing to be charged.

Even more troublesome is its action when the charge is gone. I have set the power settings to pop up a notification message at 22% battery level and take no action, then at 10% battery level, pop up another message THEN go in to hibernate. However, last week it would give me only about 20 seconds' notice of a critical battery level, then it would hibernate. It wouldn't give me any notice before the critical level.

Now, it has taken to just hibernating, with no warning notice whatsoever. I could keep it plugged in all the time, but my concern is there's something more at issue that will get worse over time. I don't need any crashes at finals time.

Any suggestions? Could the battery need replacing? Thanks.

Answer:Battery drains in 1hr; No low battery warning before hibernate

Li Ions really start to lose capacity at 2 years. By 3 years, they can easily be at 50% of their original capacity.

I'd go for a new battery.

Answer:Why does my Nokia lumia 630 keep turning off with battery life?

I would suggest either a soft reset (hold the volume down button and power button simultaneously for 10-15 seconds or until the phone vibrates.) and if that doesn't work try a hard reset (this will make you lose your personal data on the phone but is more likely to solve this problem - go to settings>about>reset your phone.

Hello guys, I recently bought a second-hand Lumia 640XL as my only phone from a guy. I do have warranty and all the things the phone had when he bought it just 6 months ago. I bought this phone for the battery life, although I know such a large screen does consume enough power. However, he claimed that he gets about 2 days of battery use, which is indeed really great. I do get about 15 hours, with about one hour of video-playing, half an hour of actually calling, about an hour of messaging, two hours or so of browsing the internet, and the rest of it being standby. Yesterday, I left home at 8:30 AM, and returned at 4:00 PM with still 61%, and after that, I've used to respond to messages, calls, and sometimes on Viber. At 11:00 PM I was having 45%, and at 1:00 AM I was having about 32% after an hour of browsing. The whole paranoid thing comes from my IPhone 4S, who used to drain in about 4 hours of stand-by. Do I have any problems with my battery ? I have brightness set to automatic, data set to 3G ONLY, Wi-Fi off when I do not use it, NFC off, BT is off also. As for background apps, I only have messages and phone, nothing more. Glance is also off. Looking forward to an answer. PLEASE!
Regards.

No idea what has caused this. All battery apps give the same wrong estimate of time remaining. Over 6 days when it should be something like 1 Day xHours. The battery discharge rate seems to behave as normal percentage wise.
I've just updated it to Windows 10.0.14393.321 - still the same.
I've done a soft reset (power + volume down button) - still the same.
What else can I do? Is the OS dumb? Is the battery screwed?
The phone is under a month old.
p.s the battery gets quite hot under any semi intensive load but this seems to be a very common trait of the phone.

Hi there. I recently upgraded from a lumia 1320 to the new lumia 950 however this phone requires a charge twice over a 12 hour period(i use my phone moderately throughout the day). The 1320(3400mAh) gave me 2-3 days baterry life with a single charge, i have expected the 950(3000mAh) to give me atleast a day and a half due to the new software and the 1440p screen but thats not the case i lost 40% battery in 5 hours while on standby. Please note that the phone is only 4 days old and i have read other forums that suggested i do a reset of the device which i have done to no avail. On a full charge battery saver says it will last 16 hours after the reset it stated one day and 17 hours, short while later(78%) it stated that it will last only 17 hours. I really love the 950 and its awesome features but this battery is kiling me. Especially when theres a sony xperia m5 that lasts 2 days on a single charge. Nokia/ Microsoft phones were built on great Camera's, awesome sound quality and thee never ending battery life. i would be please if i can get through an entire day of use and still have 40% left over at the end of the day.

And my phone is just 5 months old. You could have a faulty handset which is something I'm wondering about mine, have/had similar issues as yours but not near as bad... From all my reads I'd say Nokia missed the mark on this phone in regards to hardware, since haven't had an updates since Sept 2014 to see if that may help all I can go by is the hardware.
Can fully charge my battery (100%), turn off my phone then turn it back on in 15-20 min and it is down to 96%, sometimes it can be as low as 94% but never any lower no matter how long its been off, it's like the top end of the battery is wonky... Battery drain isn't too stellar either in my opinion, my Ativ S and 1020 are considerably better.
My capacitive buttons have gotten a tad better over time which is strange as nothing has changed, back button was the worst in the beginning.

So today i was testing my laptop with other searching some troubles on main board. Tension was not stable until battery was fully charged. Then after 5 minutes (time needs to drop battery level under 60% from 93%) i was again not stable (+/- 1A). I wanted to format battery from my BIOS but there is any option to do this. Is there any software which allows to format battery manually without BIOS? Or just I must upgrade BIOS? Hello

I just purchased a Satellite L775-15q and I want to know the best plan to charge my battery, so it can last as long as possible.
Should I leave the laptop always connected on the charger power cord, no matter if it has full battery or not? Should I always let the battery drop to 10% and then charge it up to 100% and then remove the cord? Or should I do that from time to time and not every day?

Thanks!

I think the best that you can do is discharge the battery two-three times a month not everyday.

Despite the manufacturer's claim of 7 hours battery life on my Lenovo Ideapad 320S-14IKB - 81BN (S/N: MP1CHQTJ), I only get around 3-4 hours. This is with light usage, Reddit, a little bit of youtube etc. CPU usage was mostly around 0-5% the entire time. This was with the max CPU state in power settings reduced from 100% to 85%. However, I do have the screen at 100% brightness. As a different test, I tried doing (almost) nothing (apart from keeping the screen bright), and got 6 hours out of the battery. Is there a simple solution to increase this? It's only a 30 Wh battery (2 cell). Maybe in the future, a 60 Wh (4 cell?) one will come out for this model?

My old T42 had an option to only start recharging the battery once it fell below a specifiable threshold - like 75%, using the battery maximizer tool. This reduces the number or cycles on the battery, and extends life if you frequently unplug your computer for only a few minutes at a time. I can't seem to find the same option in the lenovo energy management application. HAs anybody else seen, or know of a way to achieve this?

Hi There! Some Questions:1) Is the CPU of the Z510 on a socket so I could upgrade it?I saw a dissambling video, that looked like you could do that. And if one can do that: If you place a i7 on that board will the cooler be strong enough and is the battery able to keep up with the power needed from that i7?And if I'd go totally crazy and replace the i5 4200, upgrade that thing to 16gb ram and change the hard drive to an ssd: Will the battery just vaporize? SO: Is it possible to upgrade the 4cell battery installed in my z510? Thanks for your responses! Regards from Germany,Ruforion

Hey there,
Yes you read it correctly: I have just received mine, which I purchased because of battery life and overheating and fan noise issues on the Dell XPS 13 i7 7th gen. The 8th gen was supposed to have solved all the issues the previous version was plagued with...
Well... I unboxed it, loaded all of my softwares, installed all the WIndows updates, Dell drivers, you name it. Charged it and started using it. When I unplugged the power cord, first estimate was 4hrs on the Windows battery indicator. Then I installed BatteryBar to have a more reliable estimator. Same.
Later on, I discovered a very strong and very loud fan. Unsurprisingly, the underneath was burning hot.
Got the support team on the phone, whilst I was talking with them, the fan kicked in and I even could give them a glimpse of how loud that was over the phone.
Has any of the lucky owners of the XPS 13 i7 8th gen come across similar issues?
Sometimes, I am just baffled by the world there is between the promise and the reality....

Answer:XPS 13 8th gen i7 16GB RAM QHD+ Battery Issues 4hrs battery life tops

A brand new system may have an unusually high level of background tasks running simultaneously, such as Windows and other applications checking for and downloading updates, Windows monitoring your usage to optimize technologies such as PreFetch for your usage patterns, etc.  You might want to conduct a battery test after things have settled in a bit more.  The QHD+ display takes 2-3 hours off of the expected battery life, but you should still get 7-8 hours under normal use.  Then again, if you're heavy on WiFi and max out display brightness, you'll get less than that.  The fact that the fans are kicking on also suggests there's an unusually high level of background activity running, so check Task Manager to see if you can find out what's responsible for that.

On windows 7 this mode on Energy management software limits the charge percentage to 60% on Z580 But the charging doesnot stop it keeps charging and discharing to keep the level stable at  60%. Does that not void the whole point of running this mode?

Answer:Optimizing battery run time and battery life Faulty setting

Welcome to the forum toxicdevil.

The Energy Management for Win 7 is behaving normally. There is a 5% range, for when the system will initiate the charging sequence. It should begin charging when the battery gets down to 55%, and stop at 60%. If your gauge does not stop charging at 60% (Plugged In, Not Charging) you could have a problem.

Also, I noticed in your other post, you had upgraded to Win 8.1.

EDITED: Here are the Energy Management drivers for the Z580 under Win 8.1:

Hi guys,I am very happy user of Lenovo T520. I have upgraded to Intel 520 SSD disk and ram to crucial 2x4GB DDR3 and laptop is performing very well ! When I bought my T520, I bought one replacement battery- 9 cell battery(laptop came with 6-cell). I have used it about 10-30 times only and kept it always only 80% charged in cool place(actually at room temperature 22C approx). After one year of no-usage I wanted to start using this replacement battery again. I am very disappointed and confused. I have inserted my 9-cell battery with only 20 charging cycles and it has very low capacity and runtime. Please help me? What happned with my nearly 3 years old, but never used battery??? My 6 cell battery(about 200 cycles) is like new and performing very well(3 hours runtime and 95% capacity) See attached Many thanks for any useful advise

I finally upgraded from the X201 to X270. This is a refurbished mahcine from lenovo. My internal battery discharges very fast. I ran through the utilities. I was on for 2.5 hours surfing with Google Chrome and only had 20% left. Is this normal? If not, I will need to buy an extended battery. My X201 lifespan is much better.

When running on the battery, at the start it suggests some 3 hours of life with 100%, but after less than an hour the system suddenly goes into standby.

I get no "low level" warning any more. The Toshiba Power Saver actions are set up to alarm at 20% and go to standby at 10%. This matches the settings under control panel / power options.
I tried a new battery but the symptoms are exactly the same.

Any ideas?

Answer:Tecra M2 - battery meter/ battery life problem

Nothing immediately springs to mind, but I have a few questions which may help to elicit more information:

- Do you need to plug the M2 in to the charger to make it come out of Standby?
- What happens when you come out of Standby? Does it indicate near 0% of some other value?
- Does it recover from Standby or has it lost any BIOS settings (e.g.) wrong timedate?

Might be worth checking to see if you did anything prior to the problem which may be a factor.

I updated to 8.1 and noticed that the orange battery light now blinks all the time (about 1 per second) and the battery only charges 50 - 60% range.  I have Lenovo Energy Management enabled and set to maximize battery life (power plan=balanced).  Tried running the Battery Gauge Reset - it ran for 10+ hours before I had to cancel it to use the laptop... how long does it take to run?? Any fixes? Anyone roll back to Windows 8.0 with any success?

Hi all- I've had my X201T with core i7/2.13GHz, 4GB RAM and 8-cell battery for around 2 months now, and I'm only seeing about 2 hours of battery life before I need to plug-in. I'm running Windows 7 x64 with power options set to "Energy Saver." Is this normal/expected battery life for this configuration? Thanks,Darren David

Answer:Poor battery life on new x201T w/ 8-cell battery

That's not very good. My 4 cell battery gets 2.5 - 3 hours with typical use (wifi on, OneNote, firefox, screen backlight set to 9).My 8 cell battery gets around 6 hours under the same conditions. Video playback can kill those numbers though.

My X1 is about a month and a half old: 1. Battery life on a charge appears to be a little under 3 hours without changing the settings it came with. I know there are setting to maximize the time on one charge but for normal factory settings is this time normal? 2. When I check battery Power and Performance it states that the battery is at 85% of its original capacity. To lose so much capacity in just a month and a half seems odd. Is this normal or can this measure vary? All in all I am having a very positive experience with this computer however I am a little concerned with these power readings I am getting. Thanks in advance.

Answer:X1 Battery Life on a charge and Battery Health Questions

hey bbfolgart,1 - since you did not change any setting, the hours of usage in my opinion is about right; though this also depends on the battery you are using as well as other factors such as screen brightness; application that you're using, if the wireless is on, etc. all of this plays a role on the how much power is left for the battery.2. battery going down to 85% capacity is weird. for this try doing a battery gauge reset from the Power Manager. At the same time, do fully charge the battery and then use your unit without the AC adapter until the battery fully discharges.Recharge the battery and do not use it at this time. Once fully charge, use it again without adapter and see how long the battery last and check the capacity as well.while you do all of this, do check on http://support.lenovo.com if there is any updates for the Power Manager software that you are using and update if applicable.

So I reinstalled Vista the other day, and even before that a bit, my battery life was simply terrible. At one time, I was able to get 5 hours maximum. Now, I can (at max) get 2 hours and 15 minutes out of a 9 cell battery. There was a previous topic on this forum, but like many other topics in the Lenovo forums, the topic was deleted. Nearly everything that I've searched for regarding problems with my thinkpad, I have found a topic that linked here, but was since deleted. Very annoying.   So, I have power manager 2.41a. The battery is correctly listed,  (86 Wh Li-Ion). I powercycled it one night, and it changed to 3 hours, but it went back down to 2. I should be getting at least 5, but I've heard reports of people getting 10 hours. I'm no where near that! I'm on power saver setting, and my brightness is at about half. I have all the latest drivers, System Update didn't return anything.  Also, my switchable graphics has stopped working, as it has with plenty of other people. Any word on when a fix for this will be out? It's disappointing to spend $1400 on a laptop, only to have key features stop working. My first experience with Lenovo has not been a good one so far. I thought these things were supposed to be rock solid? That's why I bought it... the keyboard on this one sucks, it's matte instead of rubberized. It's plastic everywhere.... Why spend a premium on something that gets me the quality of an HP or a Dell? Why not spend half the price? &n... Read more

Answer:T400 Battery life very poor. 9 cell battery.

Okay, a couple of things. First to address your battery life. If you are using the latest ATI Switchable graphics drivers then do this: Start -> Run -> type 'MS Config' hit enter. Go to the start up tab and uncheck the following:  igfxpers.exe; igfxtray. For whatever reason, the new ATI switchable graphics driver when on integrated mode hangs the processor causing it to use 50% of the CPU resources. I found my power usage went from 14-16 watt draw back to 8-9w draw. Next for the switchable graphicsdo this: Lenovo just released Power Manager 2 on 1.5.09. So far, I didn't see it available on the Auto Update utility but I found it when browsing the downloads page. So me being OCD about having the latest versions of software/drivers, I decided to download it. After the install, I found that my switchable graphics wasn't in the left click menu as it always has been. I right clicked and did not see it there either. Remembering what I did for the clean install (I went back to factory install), I did the following steps.Restart computer -> go into BIOS and select Discrete graphics only. Let windows start and re-install the drivers. Did another restart to ensure functionality. Then I went back to the BIOS and selected Integrated only. I let windows start, and again it had to re-install the drivers. Once this was done, I entered the BIOS again and put the display to OS detect function and booted windows normally. Thinking I had it fixed, I left clicked on t... Read more

I have a 2013 X1 Carbon.  The battery had originally given me 4-5 hours of life on normal settings.  Recently it had gone down to 2 hours, close to 3 if I used power saver mode, dimmed the screen, etc.  So I got a replacement battery -- and it made no difference.  The battery was installed by a service tech, since it's not user-replaceable.  I thought maybe it was a defective battery (or the tech put the old one back in by mistake), so I called, and they sent me another new battery.  SAME THING.  Battery life is still about 2 hours.   I installed all updates and ran a complete virus check (no viruses).  I run a normal amount of programs and nothing crazy - Chrome web browser, MS Office applications, Skype, and a few others.  I can't understand this at all.  Any ideas would be most appreciated!

Answer:Battery life terrible even with replacement battery

BatteryBar Pro helps me monitor how much battery I am using and how much I have left.  I tend to average about 8 watts of drain when I'm using my 2015 X1 which translates into about 6 hours of use with a 50 watt hour battery.  Download it (they have a free version too which is a little more limited in functionality) and that coupled with your Task Manager should help you quite a bit.  Task Manager allows you to sort open programs by how much CPU they are using so you can figure out the offender.  Chrome is a notorious battery suck but I doubt even Chrome could cause the severe drain you are experiencing.

The 6 cell battery for my t500 has a first used date of June 2010, and it currently has 298 cycles on it.   (This is my second battery for the machine.) The condition says fair, and says it currently lasts for up to 30 min full charge, and a new battery would give me up to 1 hour of battery life. Is that normal wear?  How many cycles do you usually get out of a battery?

Hi, I recently ordered and started using a T500 with P8600 processor and 9-cell battery (the one sticking out in the back). After adding 2GB extra memory and an Intel x25-m g2 SSD, I started using it with Windows 7. I have been using it for a little more than a week now, and I've noticed that battery life seems quite bad. Granted, I've only run it on battery for a longer period once, and then I got about 3h 10 min running time on battery. This was with graphics switched to intel, optical drive turned off, wlan and 3g-card off, screen dimmed to half, power plan set to power source optimized.Usage was fairly light, editing code inside Visual Studio. Would this be expected running time? It seems quite short to me, considering my old HP nc8430 with T7200 processor (34W TDP) and 7200rpm disk got nearly 5 hours when it was new.. Is there any kind of extended battery available?

Answer:T500 battery life and extra battery

Heoo hugohallqvist, welcome to the forums, You should see this link here http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T400-amp-T500-Battery-size-what-sticks-out-... Battery life wise, I can get around 1:30 minutes, pure gaming to about 4 hours. If you have battery issues, get the larger 9 cell and 3 cell one that fits into the Optical Drive Slot so you can get double battery life. It will be a lot heavier but except 6-8 hours.

hi guys, i want to get a battery for my acer aspire 5315 laptop that will give me the longest possible time on the go.

what will i need 4 cell, 6 cell 12cell? which one?

ps. and i know that i can change powerplan and tweak some settings but i think a new battery would be best.

Answer:best battery to give longest battery life?

Assuming that they are all designed to fit your laptop, you need to look at the ratings. Basically, you want the one with the greatest Ah (amp?re-hour) as that should last longest. Although this usually means the battery with the most cells, it doesn't always follow. Check their specifications.

My family, myself are long time Lenovo Thinkpad T users.  I currently have a T 520.  It's fine as it always has been and quite pleased,  but I would now like something much lighter and it has developed a little glitch that doesn't seem reparable.  I will still keep it as a second, back-up laptop.  I just ordered the T460s that is to my liking and right in my price range (got the basic one new from Lenovo for under $800).   But to my dismay and amazement, I keep reading and hearing about lousy battery charge times ranging from 4 to 7 hrs when it is suppose to be at least 10 hrs.  And about all kinds of efforts and ways to increase it with apparently little success.   I have searched several times in this Thinkpad T forum (and elsewhere) on the latest, up to date info and experience regarding the battery and maximizing, extending battery life for the T460s.  I have not found anything beyond around 10/16/16.    As of 2/12/17, I am wondering what battery is now going into T460s, like the one being built for me.   Is it the same as always or something diferent, new, improved? Are T460s users still having the same problems and issues with the length of the battery charge? Has anyone found something, anything that really does maximize, improve or extend T460s battery life? Thanks, Randy

Hi, I recently purchased an Ideapad y560 and I was just wondering how to maximize the battery life and the Laptop's wellbeing. I read the thread http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Value-line/HOW-TO-MAXIMIZE-YOUR-LAPTOP-S-BATTERY-LIFE/m-... which has a lot of information on battery life except it is 2 years old. With my current Hp laptop I take the battery out at 35% and leave it in a ziploc while running the laptop on AC power with no battery connected.  I then try to charge the battery to full after 2 weeks and then kill it back to 35% to restore it.  Is this still the best way to run laptops if the laptop will not need to run on battery power for 1-2 weeks?

Answer:Maximize Battery Life Run on AC Power No battery?

You can try this option:http://drop.io/c6qriao/asset/battery-settings-pngIt's on the Lenovo Energy Management (the bright button on next to the right speaker) --> Click on the "mechanical weel" on the bottom --> Choose the second option.... And read the hint on that screen for more information.

This is with wifi on and surfing the web.

Hdd shuts off after 1 min, display brightness at minimum.

Just want to add that this means the laptop is using approx 18 watts, which seems to be a very reasonable number, given that just the processor has a tdp of 35 watts. These Core 2 Duos with speed stepping really reduce their energy consumption.

By the way, display is 1280x800, and the wireless adapter is the realtek rtl8781lb, not the intel one.

How to understand your thread?

If you can work so long with battery power supply only, that is great. Almost 4 hours.

Hi all,
I just upgraded from a Lumia 640 to a Lumia 950 (second hand) and its great so far (well I like both phones but the 950 takes the cake ofcourse). The only thing that I would like to increase is my battery life a bit. Especially when the screen is on the battery seems to drain quite fast (even with screen brightness set to low). I think the main culprit its the high resolution screen. Though I gather its probably not possible to lower the screen resolution? (cause honestly I don't think I would see the difference anyway if e.g. it would be set to fullhd or such)
So I have been thinking about alternative solutions. Perhaps the Lumia 950 can charge when I connect it to my laptop usb 3.0 port? I tried that once with a Chuwi (vi8 plus) tablet which worked but I don't know if the Lumia 950 also supports it?
If that isn't an option, are there perhaps other tricks out there? Maybe some huge battery or perhaps removing backgrounds from start etc or such?
Also please note that I already turned of most background apps and the battery info says the drain is mostly from 'start', 'note tiles' app, mail & agenda, what'sapp.
-edit; forgot to mention that I am running version/update 1709.
Thanks for taking the time.

My gripe is that my T61 drains the Ultrabay battery first and drains it to ZERO before going to the main battery.  It substantially reduces the lifespan of the Ultrabay battery.  It's really a shame that Lenovo cannot/will not provide a decent BIOS or driver to allow the user to select how the batteries are used.  Why is it so difficult to provide this capability?

Answer:Ultrabay Battery is used first and drains to ZERO

Agree 100%. When I'm out and about I have two 7-cell standard batteries and an Ultrabay Advance battery. I want the standard battery to drain 1st, so that I can swap it out when it has run down and the T61 switched over t the (standby) Ultrabay battery. Surely the primary battery should be drained first followed by any accessory battery? What 'branos' designed the power schema in the BIOS to operate this way? Or as you say, why can't there be a section in PowerManager tha allows you to customise the discharge order? The way I HAVE to work is to ensure that the Ultrabay battery is out of the machine when running on my 1st primary battery, and when that warns me it's going to run flat, I then have to install the Ultrabay battery, wait for it to switch, and then swap out the primary battery for the 2nd charged one. Come on Lenovo, please fix this idiotic situation. Write and issue a BIOS update and PowerManager update. I mean, in the year that I have owned this T61, there must have been 4+ BIOS updates and perhaps the same number of PowerManager updates for trivial fixes.....

Answer:battery drains while turned off

elienaoum,

Just to make sure, if you are shutting down completely you are following this method and holding the shift key down when doing so?

There should be "some" discharge while powered off, nothing really significant, but there should be some.
