When will 640XL get Windows 10 update Officially (not insider's)?

Question: When will 640XL get Windows 10 update Officially (not insider's)?

I would like to replace my current WP with 8.1 Update 2 with a W10 phone. Should I buy 640XL & try to update to W10 (by Insiders or wait for Official) or else i wait for a new W10 phone which has the similar price & specs of 640XL?

Preferred Solution: When will 640XL get Windows 10 update Officially (not insider's)?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You'll wait a few months for a device from MS with similar specs. However, there have been several new models released that run W10M. If you're not particular about getting a microsoft branded phone, you could purchase one assuming it is available in your region
You could also test with insider after buying 640xl. But you'll have to do upgrade process carefully. Check the forums for guidelines

Answer:windows 8.1 update 1 availability officially to non developers

We don't know. Certainly not in the near future.
Just use the Developer Preview if you want, its fairly painless.
Also, its Windows PHONE 8.1 Update 1, Windows 8.1 Update was released months ago for PCs. Easy mistake, but it makes all the difference.

In April, we released a bigger, more comprehensive package of improvements to Windows 8.1 called the Windows 8.1 Update. We did the same for Server too, with Windows Server 2012 R2 Update. As we said at the time, our goal is to continue to deliver improvements to Windows through regular updates in order to respond more quickly to customer and partner feedback. After all, we already have a regular monthly update process that includes security and non-security updates.

With the above in mind, rather than waiting for months and bundling together a bunch of improvements into a larger update as we did for the Windows 8.1 Update, customers can expect that we’ll use our already existing monthly update process to deliver more frequent improvements along with the security updates normally provided as part of “Update Tuesday.” So despite rumors and speculation, we are not planning to deliver a Windows 8.1 “Update 2.”

We’ll continue to use our normal channels such as Windows Update (WU), Microsoft Update (MU), and Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) to deliver updates to Windows. These updates will include security updates to help keep you protected, as well as non-security updates that can bring a range of improvements to your PC or tablet running Windows. Examples of some of these non-security updates are the Windows Store Refresh in May and the June update to OneDrive to improve your control of sync. Some of these improvements might be more visible or even new features, whi... Read more

Answer:Microsoft Officially Addresses Windows 8.1 "Update 2" Rumors.

That's because they are saving those large updates for the upcoming Windows 9 and bailing on Windows 8.1. Just release tiny nibbles, and any major changes go into the new version rather than putting bandaids on the 8.1 Update.

(that's not true, or at least I don't think it is. I just made it up...).

Hi folks,
I recently updated my Lumia 1520 to update 2 via windows insider trick. Now I pretty much want to receive normal updates that are pushed to my device in the future and not windows 10 TP and all. So can u guys suggest me what to do in order to receive normal updates? Currently the update setting shows windows 10 update ready to download... Is there any trick that can help me?
Thank you.

Answer:Some help regarding wp 8.1 update 2 (via windows insider app)

I believe you will have to hard reset the device since you aren't supposed to stay on Update 2. It was supposed to stay there for a little bit, then upgrade to 10 automatically. Erase the device to "forget" that whole plan.
However, there may or may not be a less destructive solution since while I know when the device is asking to install it's too late, but I don't know about asking to download.

Plz help me...i don't know the difference between windows insider and update advisor.
I updated my lumia 640 by windows insider...is there any problem?
Plz help me

Answer:Windows insider vs update advisor

Update adviser is to let you know whether or not your phone is compatible and for when MS/Carrier have the official WM10 update ready for your phone. Windows Insider is so you can preview pre release builds of WM10 on your device. Which ring did you choose? I updated my wife's 640 to the insider release preview ring for the .242 update(which will be more stable than the slow or fast rings) then removed her from the insider program so she'll get the next production release. I hope this makes sense, let me know if you need me to clarify anything.

Hello!
I am enrolled in the slow ring of the windows insider preview. I have a Lumia 640 . The internal storage available in it is 7.28 gb. To update, it requires 1.22 gb. I have removed all apps and documents I could have removed. Now only system does and the (uninstallable) Microsoft apps are left. How do i get the else required to update?
PS: The mail+ messaging shows it is using 103mb space. Can that be removed?

Im currently using 6.12 gb of 7.28 gb. It says i require 1.22 gb which comes around 6.06 gb. So i just need about 70 mb more space

Answer:Windows 10 insider build update stuck on 80%

The Insider Previews aren't stable releases they are test builds... you shouldn't use them on a primary machine. If you need to recover files follow this guide:
http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/data-recovery-using-fedora/
You can download Windows 10 and clean install:
http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/download-windows-10-oem-and-retail-iso/
If you want to remain on the Insider Preview. Use the Insider Preview .iso:

I like many others have been having a problem getting my Windows Update set up to get insider builds. Even though I had signed in using my Microsoft account, I get getting the "Fix me" button which gave me a message about stopping insider builds. I think I identified the problem. I did a clean install of 10162 on a spare drive as a stand alone system. Update told me I was all set to get insider builds. Then I reattached my drive with Windows 8.1 and set it up for dual boot. As soon as I did this I got the infamous "Fix me" button. I then disconnected the Windows 8.1 drive and update told me I was once again all set to get insider builds. Strange - when Update sees another windows install on my system, it disables insider builds.

Answer:Problem with getting Insider Builds thru Windows Update

Yup that is unfortunately what happens if you dual boot with another version of Windows.
I get exactly the same scenario dual booting Windows 10 and 7.
If I want to update Win 10 I have to disconnect my Win 7 drive then all goes well until I reconnect my Win 7 drive and boot up, then follows a sequence of CHKDSK.
All part of the fun

Hi everyone,
Before heading off for the holidays I wanted to give a little bit of an update on how things are shaping up for Windows 10, especially since we don?t have a build for you this month. I know that some of you are disappointed that we didn?t release another build (though we know some of them escaped?.I?m looking at you 9888 & 9901?)* but now that we?ve announced our event on January 21st I can finally explain why we didn?t. We?ve been very hard at work putting together a great build for you that includes a bunch of new features and improvements. As all of those payloads came in we needed to stabilize code, fix any integration issues, and ensure all of the new UX is polished. We?re really focused on making the next build something that we hope you?ll think is awesome. In fact, just so that we have a *daily* reminder to ourselves that we want this build to be great, we even named our build branch FBL_AWESOME. Yeah, it?s a bit corny, but trust me that every Dev that checks in their code and sees that branch name gets an immediate reminder of our goal. We?re super excited to show you what we?ve been up to! Look for a follow-up blog post from us on where to tune-in to the live webcast on January 21st.

This Windows Insider thing seems to be gaining momentum

Hello, I've been trying for hours to get my HTC One M8 to run the Windows 10 preview, but I'm having some issues.
- As most people have suggested, I've hard reset my phone, not used a backup, then installed the insider preview and signed up for fast ring (I hear the newest build is great).
- Once I've done this and the phone has restarted and everything, I go to check for updates and.... nothing. Says my device is up to date.
- Tried resetting (twice), using the WP recovery tool, and still no updates come around.
Any suggestions? Could this have anything to do with my carrier (Verizon)? Am I out of luck? Thanks in advance.

You will not get an upgrade using the fast ring on the HTC, that is just for "supported" devices. You can get the very good 10586.218 release using "Insider Release" not "slow" or "fast" though. Not sure if "production" ring will get you anything either.

My wife is using a 640xl that's still on 8.1. If she initially updates to win10, will she lose kids corner or does she need to a second update before it disappears. We are trying to keep kids corner if possible.

I don't remember whether Kids Corner was removed from the beginning or not but I can certainly say that if she upgrades to 10, Kid's Corner's days will be numbered if it's not already removed because Windows 10 Mobile updates are mandatory and cannot be stopped.

Hello all,

Real quick, I'm having an issue where I try to update from Build 15031.rs2_release.170204-1546 to the next rs2_release available via Windows Update. The update downloads, does the pre-install, boots me into the traditional blue screen of updating, finishes, then reboots me to get back into the OS. At this juncture, I am at a blue flag and white dot circle, which has stopped spinning (it spins for approx .75 seconds) and halts, machine stays in this state ad infinitum. I can reboot it, at which point it goes back to the same state. If i shut down, then power back up instead (cold boot), the machine reverts the upgrade and goes back to the previous build and everything is honkey dorey.

Thing 1) I do not have a wireless USB mouse/dongle. Please don't recommend I remove it as one does not exist.
Thing 2) I have removed two possible culprits (Creative SoundBlaster Z card, Asus Wireless-N card). No change.
Thing 3) I have unplugged all video (except 1 Display Port), all USB connections, and the Ethernet cable. No change.
Thing 4) I even went so far as to disconnect my NZXT water cooler USB connector from the motherboard header and reboot. No change.

Most posts I see, it's a "Oh, your wireless usb mouse is causing issues" or, "the PC is having issues discovering USB devices during it's boot process, disconnect them". Well, I've done it, and it's still busted. This has happened with /every/ developer preview update since Win 10 was release. The first... Read more

If you missed it, Tab Mix Plus went GA over the weekend. Many consider this an essential add-on extension to Firefox. I personally use it in Firefox on Windows Vista and Ubuntu Linux.

previously I enrolled in Windows Insider and upgrade my lumia 1020 to win 10 but then dg to win 8.1 ( at least 2 time )
yesterday I decided to update to win 10 again, so I installed Windows Insider and enrolled in " Insider Release Preview ", then I downloading the update file, I saw it till 88% but then I was forget to check on it and when I checked it, it was stopped. when trying to update again ( with check for update button ) it said that your phone is up to date ! since then I tried so many times to check again but still can not update my phone, even I tried soft reset and hard reset and also Flashing via Nokia care suite to win 8.1 ( cyan update and then to denim ) but still can't ( and also I changed my Insider ring to slow )
The windows insider said that your phone is ready to update and when I want to stop insider builds ( to do it from the beginning again ) it said that we can not do it right now because you have an update to get
can anybody help me ?

Answer:I can not update my lumia 1020 to Windows 10 via Windows Insider

Whilst attempting to update from build 16176 to 16179 it fails with error Windows 10 Insider Preview 16179.1000 (rs_prerelease) - Error 0x80070005

Finds this update and downloads a KB then starts to install 16179 but quickly stops with this error. I've tried stopping all non MS services and startup programs and rebooting but it still fails. I've also followed numerous different suggestions which got extremely complicated but had no effect.

DISM restorehealth can't find the files and I don't have an ESD/ISO for build 16176

I tried to reset my windows but it only offers a total reinstall losing my software and settings which will be a PIA to rebuild.

I could wait for the next insider release and see if MS have fixed it or is it a problem on my particular PC?

Answer:Update to Windows 10 Insider Preview 16179.1000 - Error 0x80070005

I had the same problem, see here: Get out of Insider updates.

I am in the process of trying to leave the Insider Program for my Laptop but not having any success.

Answer:Windows Insider only option is Insider Fast w/ Lumia 830 RM-985 CA-00

Microsoft (Gabe Aul) stated that they don't have anything for slow ring until next build at the soonest. You can try to get it through fast ring though.

Hello everyone,
I've already upgraded to Windows 10 (from W7) around August 18th, and still didn't get the Fall Update.
That was fine, I tried using Media Creation Tool and installing the upgrade manually. After "Copying files" was done, at about 30%, right before starting to install drivers and features, it will stop installing and "restore to previous version of Windows", which is Windows 10.
I decided two days ago to join The Insider program on my laptop too, and after couple hours, I was able to download the latest build of Windows 10.
Again, same problem, it wouldn't install drivers and features, and restores the previous version of Windows.
I read somewhere that turning Wifi OFF might solve it but no solution.
Any suggestions?

source: Insider Preview Update KB4046355 Silently Uninstalls Windows Media Player

After Windows Insiders installed update KB4046355 for the Insider Build 16299.15, they discovered that Windows Media Player had been silently removed from the computer. As Build 16299 is the Fall Creators Update that is scheduled to come out this month, it is unknown whether the removal of Windows Media Player is intentional as part of this large update or a bug.

"Microsoft will deliver a release candidate of Windows 7 in about two weeks, the company's Web site revealed Saturday. According to a page posted on Microsoft's partner program site, Windows 7 Release Candidate (RC) may be available to paying subscribers to Microsoft's developer and IT services before May 5. Partners will be allowed to download the release candidate on that date, the first Tuesday of the month. 'Partners: If you have a subscription to MSDN or TechNet, you can download Windows 7 RC now,' the page read Saturday afternoon. 'Otherwise, you can download Windows 7 RC starting May 5, 2009.' The link to the download, however, shunted users to the TechNet download page, which did not list Windows 7 RC as one of the available files. This is the second time in just over three weeks that Microsoft's Web site has leaked information about Windows 7 RC. Accidental, or buzz-builder?"

Slashdot | Microsoft Leaks Windows 7 RC Date — Before May 5

Answer:Windows 7 RC is officially due out in about two weeks.

Read the date of this from the original source. March 26, 2009. Old news mate.

Was never confirmed either. After this hit, there was talks of it being released to testers in April.

As of today, Windows 8.1 is out of offical mainstream support from Microsoft. The deadline has passed which means most of us still running the last-gen operating system won't see updates or be able to call support.

Of course, the code crunchers in Redmond might tap out the odd update, just as they did last year for Windows XP following the WannaCry outbreak. If you're eligible for extended support then you've still got another five years to go before you're totally out of help.

Windows 10 is a little tougher to keep track. With two major releases per year, it's not a version number or service pack you need to keep track of, but a specific build. Build 1607, which was released in August 2016, is tentatively scheduled to leave mainstream support in March this year, with Build 1703 getting the support bullet in September this year.

With Windows 10, the rule of thumb seems to be that each build gets about 18 months of mainstream support. If you stick to an approximately annual update cycle then you should be able to stay supported.

We've received word from Microsoft that WSA version 9.0.0.64 has received approval to be officially compatible with Windows 10. That means that there shouldn't be any more Program Compatibility Assistant warnings when upgrading or installing on Windows 10. We won't support WSA on Windows 10 until the release date, but for those of you on the Windows 10 beta, please let us know on the community if you run into any issues.

The WSA 9.0.0.64 update is a rolling update - if you haven't received the update by the time you plan on upgrading to Windows 10, then you can force an update by right-clicking on the system tray Webroot icon and selecting "Check for updates".Click to expand...

So, I just built a new PC. So, I thought what the hell, install the latest build of Windows 10 onto this new PC and check it out. See if there is any hope whatsoever of it being a replacement for Windows 7 as my main OS. So, I put the Windows 10 .ISO on a flash drive. I installed it to the only storage device in my new PC, a 250GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD. Power on, Windows 10 installs flawlessly and without virtually any intervention on my part. So, that's the good of the Windows 10 experience with my new PC.

The bad is, from the few minutes I did spend using Windows 10, the UI is STILL a complete....what's the appropriate word....disaster? catastrophe? nightmare?

They promised to make Windows 10 appropriate to the device it's running on. Why are menu's still sliding in and off the screen as though I am using a tablet...when I am not using a tablet??? *face palm*
It seems the tweeny bopper dumbed down UI is going to run its full course at this point.

But another thing that bothers me is the fact that I have been shutting down my new PC with Windows 10 when I am not using it. Because I still have more work to do inside on the antennae that attach to the mini-PCIe network card. I didn't tighten the washers enough. And I figure why let Windows 10 burn out my new SSD by running it 24/7. So, I got a couple of good reasons for shutting down when not exploring the new crap Windows 10.

But what bothers me, is twice now, twice, 2, 2 *#^%^# times, I come back t... Read more

Windows 8 RTM for IT Pros and developers will be coming August 15th (via Technet and MSDN). I wonder if Lenovo officially supports upgrading our PCs to Windows 8 then. I have the A720 and mysteriously, the C: drive is the larger, HDD whereas the D: drive is the smaller, SSD. I don't want to simply start the installation from within Windows 7 because then it will install on C: drive which is not what I want. I could blow away the entire existing install and start from scratch with the SSD for install but I suspect there is some Lenovo magic happening behind the scenes (as in, it is using the SSD for system use even though Windows seems to be installed on C: drive). I don't want to mess with that, if I can avoid it. Is there a Lenovo recipe for upgrading to Windows 8 on this PC?

Question: Insider update.

Have windows 10 1511 with digital rights. At 7 am NY time this morning I changed my settings for fast ring, I am a registered insider. How long before I get 14393.5 update?

Henry

Answer:Insider update.

Usually takes 24-48 hours after switching ring. There is truly no rhyme or reason to the exact time MS clears you for the download. You will get 14393.0 first and then a Cumulative Update to 14393.5 if and only if you are set to the Fast ring. So be sure to check which ring you have after you get 14393.0. For me it was initially set to Release Preview.

I have read some articles saying that the Windows Phone actually gave up on developing their phones but will still support the users from different kind of issues, but not on new ones. We think what doomed Windows Phone is that it lacks applications that other competitors are intelligently maintaining. One thing also, Microsoft has not exposed Windows Phone extensively unlike when you hear Samsung or Apple. Joe Belfiore along with Bill Gates has also shifted to Android.
The truth hurts, but we are glad that Microsoft is done with denial and is on the 5th stage of moving on, acceptance. You will be remembered.
