Preferred Solution: Why am I recieving message that 2 apps are preventing me from shutting down on my Windows 10 P.C.?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Why am I recieving message that 2 apps are preventing me from shutting down on my Windows 10 P.C.?

When it says that, it shows you what the apps are... this is not uncommon if you have unsaved work and the app prompts to save it.

Hi, just switched from Win 7 to 10. I had initially added a Chinese keyboard setting for writing or reading Chinese (taking Chinese classes) and also a Chinese software. The software was uninstalled just prior to the update and the 2 keyboard things were removed after. Anyhow, that's it, I did nothing 'Chinese after that, and yet, when rebooting I got the above message, "this app (in Chinese characters) is preventing you from shutting''. How can this be? Where does it come from? Since my keyboard no longer has Chinese, actually doing a search for such a file will be impossible--besides the fact that I can't really read Chinese anyways. So how do I find such an app and get rid of it?

(BTW, unlike Win 7 now on boot I get HP Solution center loading as well and don't know what to disable since doing so may actually disable the printer.)

Hey guys, I've got another one for you. I'm not too familiar with e-mail and the alike. I have 2 computers, one upstairs, and one downstairs. Both have the same e-mail address configured to recieve messages from. If I recieve a message upstairs, and then I check e-mail downstairs, I can not recieve that message again on the downstairs computer. Is there any way to configure the computers so that the e-mail message will be sent to both computers?

Answer:Recieving same e-mail message 2 different places

The only way I know to do this is in outlook or outlook express. You can set the send/receive options in outlook (express) to leave the message on the server. I do this on my PCs, on my main PC, I allow it to delete the messages after downloading them. When I pick up my email on my laptop, it leaves a copy of the messages on the server so that when I get home, I can download them onto my desktop PC too.

The only problem with this scenario is that if you pick up the messages on the main PC first, the laptop will not be able to retrieve them.

You can also setup outlook to leave a copy of the message on the server for x-number of days and then delete them afterwards. This way, you can pick them up on both systems no matter what.

Drawback to this one is… It depends on the size of your email account from your provider. If you have a small account, it will fill up quickly and then your messages will bounce back to the sender stating your mailbox is full.

The choice is yours! I prefer my method to ensure my mailbox does not get too full. If I need an email on my laptop, I simply just forward it to myself and pick it up on the laptop.

Hope this helps a little.

"other people are logged on to this computer data maybe lost"
What could be causing this and how do I remedy it?

Answer:Recieving error message when trying to shutdown

Oooh you are a meanmom! Kidding

This message is primarily seen when other users haven't logged off their profile with a common, or shared PC. Since they didn't log off, whatever they have pending could potentially not be saved. (They're the bad guy.) If they can't save and log off, Meanmom can't be responsible. A few iterations of this works well; just tell them you didn't know better.

If you have a gateway configuration -- meaning you have 2 or more computers that share a connection, when you turn off your computer all others disconnect, you might see this message. This means you're the bad guy. They were transferring something and you shut them down cold. I toss the typical 5 minute warning "Hey!! You have 5 mins and that's it!!"

PS: If you have 1 PC and you're the only user, we can help with user accounts; just holler.

Greetings. So, last night I was about to go to sleep and began to shut down my laptop, which is running on the latest version of Windows 8 and IIRC is an Asus G750, when I noticed something called Coloruservice was preventing me from shutting down. I cancelled the shutdown because of the paranoid person I am to see what it was and if it was harmful. As I was looking up what it was it popped up that Avast blocked a trojan that was originating from coloruservice.exe in some folder in x86, I immediately proceeded to run a Hardened Boot time scan using Avast free 2014 and supposedly nothing was found. I googled this for hours and couldn't find anything about it being that harmful, but I had never seen it before, and have never run it on my laptop, unless something else causes it to run. Does anyone know what's wrong? What do I do? I have classes in a few and i'm going to be going nuts until I can fix this.

Answer:Psuedo freaking out, coloruservice.exe was preventing me from shutting down..

At around May 30th Outlook 2003 at the receptionists desk started to receive thousands of mail delivery failures. At least 10,000 by now. Every time send/receive is hit we get a batch of a few thousand. Here is an example of one of them:

Someone has access to your email accout and address book, IMO.

On a much smaller scale...same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago...I started receiving these notices of undeliverable email to persons in my online address book...which I had not seen.

I changed the login/password for my online email account...and it ceased occurring.

I think the app suspension feature as implemented pretty poorly without the option to disable this behaviour for select apps. I'd like to use the apps but I simply can't seeing that the main programs I use break when they're suspended.

Skype stops all contentions and will rarely give me message notification on new conversation, and while most types of downloads in Chrome will break including streams and sometimes even normal http downloads. If I want to check on another app like Skype or my email I'd like to switch from Chrome and come back hoping my stream be complete or download still working. Instead I have to juggle my apps around to make sure Chrome never leaves the screen for more than 5 seconds or I'll have to start all over

I wouldn't mind if Skype and Chrome were in the background using memory 100% of the time. I know this should be left to the developer to improve the background app functionality, but for the time being is there any way I can prevent suspension?

I recently had a couple of trips back and forwards to a high street shop. The first copy of Railroadtycoon 3 installed successfully but the play disk was not recognised. The replacement cds had different symtoms, the install disk setup.exe would show up in the task manager but no subsequent cd reading activity would occur.Has any other people discovered problems with new software's copy protection preventing new installs potentially due to over zealous copyright protection?

Answer:CD/DVD burning apps preventing game installs?

Yes - I had this with FS2004, though I'm not sure that it had anything to do with copy protection. Go into Device Manager and find your IDE Controller (this is easy to accomplish using "view by connection" mode; it'll have your drives hanging on the end of it). Select the channel that your CD/DVD drive is on (most have it on secondary - you'll know) and have a look at the transfer mode. I solved all my problems by amending this from "BIOS default" to "PIO Mode".

Maybe one of your services or process is not shutting down properly. Try to identify when this issue occurs and then maybe you could isolate that process.
Also see if Download details: User Profile Hive Cleanup Service helps you.
Or else then it could also be a hardware problem ...

So as usual my ex husband promised my daughter something he didn't deliver. He had said for over 6 months he was going to get her a phone. Finally did. (said he had to wait to add her, turns out it's Prepaid, lol) Then says he is going to get her into a new phone he bought which was an actual smart phone (8X) as apposed to her basic one. Months later it finally arrives. I activate it (wasnt new, it was his gmas old one on another carrier) and no matter what I do it gives me an error message once it tries to have me sign in, in order to download off the app store.
1. He didnt think to call and inform AT&T about her switching phones. Obviously kind of important. So that has been done.
2. He never verified her email since she is underage. Thats done as well.
3. All the APN setting were wipped so i called to get those. She does finally get MMS.
4. Took into the store and also talked with tech support for ATT about 10xs.
5. Ive tried multiple other emails that have been used for years and still will not allow it.
Im at a loss and this poor girl has been waiting months for this to get straightened out. Of course dad wont help or bother so I really dont know what else to do.
This is the error message: " Can't connect, We're having a problem signing in. Make sure you have good reception. If you do, the problem may be on the other end. Wait a little while and try again."

Answer:Windows 8X. Cant get apps from store. Error message. No one seems to be able to help

Let's rule out reception as an issue. Are you on Wi-Fi? I'd try on Wi-Fi to make sure it's not the carrier that's causing the problem. What carrier are you using? Second, you have to use a legit Microsoft account to access the store.,, etc.

I'm wondering if someone could help with a problem I have with some apps on windows 8.

When I click on an app, for example the weather or sports app I get a message on the screen to say "you are not connected to the internet, please check your internet connection", however I am connected to the internet and can use some of the other apps fine.

I have done the following:

Checked firewall settings, the apps in question are set to allow through the firewall with both public and private ticked.

AV is AVG however I have refreshed my PC and the problem occurs without AVG installed.

Logged in as another windows user, same problem occurs.

Uninstalled/reinstalled the problem apps, same problem occurs.

The only thing I can think of is a complete reinstall of windows but just wanted to put the question out there in case there is something else that I can try.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there,

Apologies if this issue has already been covered elsewhere but I can find no trace of it.

I recently updated from Windows 8 to 8.1 and am mostly very happy with the changes that have been brought in, I am however having one problem that I wasn't before. While using my laptop I tend to have two apps running simultaneously (usually the desktop with radio playing through IE in the background, and Google Chrome for browsing the net in the foreground- Chrome doesn't seem to like the radio website I use) and I used the touchpad left edge swipe to efficiently switch between the two. However since upgrading to 8.1, any apps that are in the background appear to shut themselves down if left there for a certain period of time. This of course means having to reload them from the Start screen each time- an annoyance when I've got so used to a simple touchpad swipe. I also know that it is not a touchpad issue as the apps disappear from the left side bar- the bar itself will not show up as there are no other active apps to be shown.

I've been doing some research into this and read about tombstoning, this appears to be what is happening to me and the app is still running according to the Task Manager. I've also seen something about Windows shutting down unused apps after so long in order to save memory. I don't know if this feature is the culprit or not, but if it's a possibility then is there an option to turn this off, at least for certain apps? Also was this function present ... Read more

Answer:Issue with apps shutting themselves down.

Further to this, after running a third app recently, it's become clear that it's only the desktop app that closes itself down after a period of time. I still have no clue as to why this is.

I have an iPhone 3g, version 4.2.1 on AT&T.

How do I shut down an app? I've just been exiting the app, but I was using the Texas Fires App tonight and got a message to close some apps to improve memory space. This sort of shocked me--I've had this phone for 2 or 3 years and never have known about shutting down an application. I do hope this isn't as dumb as it sounds to me!

Thanks in advance!

My computer is an XP home edition I believe, and it asked me to install some important updated. After doing so, it told me that I needed to restart or shut down my system in order for the updates to take place. When I tired doing so, It gets stuck. I get to a blue "log-off" screen, and it says 6 out of 14 updates are being installed... do not turn off your computer. But it stays like that for hours, and never updates, so I end up having to shut off my computer by hitting the power button. :/

I tried doing a system restore, but those updates have to be installed first. Before it even tries to restore, it deals with the updates. I'm not too sure what to do. Is there any way to bypass these updates, or get them installed some other way? I'd really apriciate the help. Thanks.

Answer:Updates for my computer are preventing me from shutting down my computer

Is this a new system? When you go to updates have you validated your copy of XP with Microsoft? Once you do that and make sure your settings are correct in your browser for downloads it does take time but not hours. Are you running firewalls, Zone Alarm etc., anything that would block the updates? Jazz

I'm using an OKI B4200 mono laser printer connected via USB 2.0. The PnP device recognized and installed on my HP Media Center running Windows XP, but test print page failed.

Now all MS Office S/W automatically shuts down 5-10 seconds after opening the app. Message is "MS Office Word has encountered a problem and needs to shut down."

We experienced a similar problem previously w/ the same printer only it affected the Media Center software (critical error 3?) and found a fix on the TechSupport Forum site.

Also rec'd following error "Setup.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" when running the OKI B4200 installation S/W.

Any help is appreciated before the printer goes to the curb...thanks,

P.S. MS Office apps are affected whether printer is off/on/disconnected.

Answer:OKI B4200 drivers shutting down MS Office apps

Uninstall the driver and reboot. If the MS Office programs are still affected, go to Add Remove Programs, scroll down to Office and choose Change, and do a Repair. Once office is running good again, install an updated OKI Driver If test page won't print, then try a different driver from that page.

Everything worked fine until I read one of the messages in the system tray in the 'flag' area (action center).

It said I had to restart the computer immediately or there were going to be trouble I am not sure it was the line "Restart to repair drive errors" or something else. I did it, it took a while, it wasn't your simple restart, since it was on a black screen with my acer logo on top and not the typical blue one.

After this, the store is broken and won't open and most of the apps (I have around 70, haven't tested them all) show a x sign on the bottom right corner and will not open.

I have tried a lot of stuff (clear the store cache, some powershell scripts) but the only thing that has changed is that the store number of apps listed in the bottom corner was zero and now it is 37. I have tried the apps.diagcab but it just tells me that I have the windows updates set on do not download. (I download them manually)

But I cannot get the store to open. Please do not ask to check the screen resolution since it worked fine with the same screen resolution until yesterday.

any idea?

I have this X53U Asus laptop running win7 home premium x64. I have a problem when I reboot the laptop after installing the windows updates. Everything is fine, the "configuring windows update.. 30%" message is fine.. but right after the shutting down message is done, the laptop goes into a "fans still spinning, power button light is lit, but nothing on screen" phase. To get out of that phase i have to force it to shut down, holding the power button. When i boot up after that, the windows updates are successful.

Did this happened to someone here?

So new build, E6400, Asus P5B-E mobo, Buffalo DDR2 667 Value ram, 7600GT, WD Sata 250HDD.

The computer will sometimes boot into windows fine and then just it shuts down randomly. The message "Windows is shutting down" comes up and it plays the shutting down sound. Shuts down all the programs properly. We try to boot it up after that and sometimes it will load, most of the time it just power cycles and never boots.

This is the 2nd motherboard, we had grounding problems but those have since been resolved. TAT is reading about 42/40c for the chip, under load it gets to about 60c using the stock cooler. This sounds like a heat issue but those temps are no where near the 85c threshold of the chip. Any ideas?

Is the Fax number the same as the line I'm sending them using?

How does the PC know that a fax is ringing through and not a phone call? I wouldn't want friends/family ringing yp and getting computer noises.

Do you need the fan console up or does it just print automatically on my assigned printer?

I get the 0x7665BE16 message when I am shutting down. Additionally I am very slow starting up and getting on the internet and tells me that the programs are not responding. Could take several minutes. I purchased a computer in Oct and had the same problems until eventually it was not responding at all. I purchased a new computer and put it in the same place as the other computer. The old computer was reformatted and is fine now. (was reformatted 2x in the old spot and continued having the same issues then reformatted it in a new location and it runs fine) The new computer continues to do the same message. I believe it is something to do with either my router or my dsl since the only difference between this and the other computers in my house is that the computer I am having trouble on is hard wired to the dsl and router. I have spoken with Verizon and they say it is not their problem and netgear says the same thing.

I recently updated from Vista to Win 7 (both 32-bit Home Premium). It was a simple upgrade, not a new install.

I've noticed with Win7 that when I go to do a shutdown, while the desktop is shutting down, it grays the screen and says a program is is not shutting down in a timely matter. I never saw that with Vista. It doesn't appear to tell me WHAT program is the issue. Also, it usually clears itself within a second or two, barely giving me time to check anything.

I've seen various WaitToKillApp and HungApp notes about speeding up shutdown. I'm not all that worried about making it shut down fast, but would like to know how I could find out WHICH program it is. If anything, I'd increase the time before it complains so it shuts down cleanly. I think older Windows would list the name of the program in a standard dialog box, but not this full-screen thing.

PS: I'm mixed on Win7. I've had to 'undo' alot of things and rely on 3rd party software like ShellFolderFix to get back 'power user' abilities. Stupidification is the keyword.

Answer:'Stuck' program message when shutting down

Hmm - if it was an upgrade, I would strongly suggest you make sure all of your drivers had been updated to the latest versions that supported Windows 7 (either before or after the upgrade), make sure your BIOS was at the latest version, and removed any OEM applications (if they were preinstalled on a purchased machine) before re-testing.

Have been getting a message last 4-5 nights when trying to shut down, saying that "The following programs are still running: SUPERANTISPYWAR. This program is preventing your computer from shutting down." The message persists for a few moments and then the computer finally shuts down.

Could not find any such "superantispywar" (note: without the "e"). Hmmm. It feels like I'm being used as somebody's server perhaps.

I ran the recommended scans, but could not get MGtools to give me anything. I also tried to run GetLogs.bat as administrator and got nothing either. User Account Control is off and AV and firewall are disabled so I'm stumped and need help with that one.

Please find attached:

I appreciate your help. Thanks much,

Answer:message that "SUPERANTISPYWAR" is preventing shutdown

Please click Start, All Program, Accessories and you will see ( among other things ) a Command Prompt entry.
Right click the Command Prompt entry and select Run As Administrator.

It is critical that you run it this way.

If you do this properly, a command prompt window will open with a title of Administrator Command Prompt.
Enter the below commands at the command prompt each followed by the enter key. The bold black are commands. The purple/brown is merely informational.

cd \MGtools <-- this changes to the MGtools folder and the prompt should change to C:\MGtools>
GetRunKey<-- this will try to run all one scan from MGtools. Tell me what error messages, if any, you see.
ShowNew<-- this will try to run all one scan from MGtools. Tell me what error messages, if any, you see.

Hello and Welcome to TSF

Are you sure that is the error message you are recieving?

check for overheating. Open the case and blow out the dust bunnies using canned air. Boot it back up and physically look to see if ALL the fans are spinning.

Also run some antispyware and virus scanners.

Scan your pc with 2 of these free online scanners:
Panda ActiveScan
RAV AntiVirus
Housecall Be sure to put a check the box beside AutoClean

Download / Install / Update / and Run:
Adaware SE check for any updates before running it.
Get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. You can download it at this SITE
To run this tool, install to the hard drive, then open Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection.

Download and install Spybot S&D . Run Spybot and click on the 'Search for Updates' button. Install any updates that are available. Next click on the 'Check for Problems' button. Let it run the scan. If it finds something, che... Read more

So I did a search in windows explorer for 'qook' and found a bunch of files and folders which were all recent and didn't look like they're needed for operational purposes but I wasn't able to delete almost all of them because they're all being used. Do you think it's a virus?

My daughters having some problems with her laptop and is going to bring it back from Uni at the weekend for me to have a look at.

Basically, it keeps shutting down sometimes with an ATI Graphics Driver error message. I had upgraded the memory last Christmas and resinstalled from scratch.

My initial thoughts are it is overheating and I probably need to clean the fan out, just wondered if anyone else had any thoughts?

Many thanks
Keith (Southend)

Answer:Satellite Pro A40 keeps shutting down with ATI driver error message

Satellite Pro A40 is about 3 years old and it is possible that unit should be cleaned up. If the unit is used intensively I presume there is much dust inside. By overheating the unit shuts down suddenly without any warning.

As first step clean the unit up. I do not know if it is good idea to do it alone but if you are familiar with notebooks you can give a try. After doing this, your daughter should watch carefully what will happen next days.

Windows frequently shutsdown by itself (while closing my laptop)... and when I shutdown, it restarts itself... And my video options in skype frequently changes to Livecam avatar (and i have to change it manually to integrated laptop)

I have Mcafee Total protection and run MBAM once a week... and it shows no malicious items

Is this a windows vista problem or something deeper?

When shutting down laptop, get Program Failure to Close windows. When I hit end process, it does shut down. I looked up some of the various ones I get (not same every time) and they appear to be part of system32 driver strings - I searched on 2 of them and they were in one of the blogs. 4e8 and 8d8 were 2 of the recent "programs that failed to close. Happens most every time I shut down. Any suggestions?

Answer:Shutting down get error message program failure to close

Let's find out which specific programs are the problem

Open msconfig and on the General tab choose "selective startup" (uncheck all three items) and reboot. Does the problem still occur? If not, start adding items back to msconfig one or two at a time, rebooting after each change, until the problem reappears and you'll have identified the offending process. This is clearly a time consuming procedure, but it is the best way to determine if some process loading with the system is the cause of your problem.
After you've isolated the cause, do not use msconfig to permanently disable the process. Instead, if it is a service go to START - RUN and type: services.msc (then press enter) and disable the service OR, if it a program, you can download & run a simple app such as Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel ( to enable, disable, or otherwise manage startup programs.

I've had this first person shooter game called "Contract Jack" installed on my pc for about 2 and a half years now. The game has always run smoothly without any problems whatsoever. Now for some reason every time I try to host a multi player game of it online the game the game runs fine for 2-5 minutes, and eventually shuts down and gives me the following error message on my desktop.

Hosting an online multi player game works 100% well the second time I load the game thereafter. I don't have any idea why it would be doing this?????

Can someone help me troubleshoot this problem please? BTW the error message has a long error report I can post [at the blue "click here" on the image above]. I can post that long error report but it's quite long.

Anyways please help... It's weird how it always happens when I turn on the game once, and than doesn't the second time around.

My son's computer had virus issues, and wouldn't connect to the internet, uninstall unwanted programs, etc.  Went into safe mode and deleted temporary files and unwanted programs. Connected to internet and installed Malwarebytes. Ran scan and found several viruses that were quarantined.  Restarted and got a message saying the computer was logging off due to Dell Management Agent Services. This continues over and over.  How do I get rid of this doom loop? Thanks

Answer:Laptop shutting down, Dell Management Agent Service message

Welcome to BC !
If you can boot into safe mode with networking...then install and run the programs below.
Use CCleaner to remove Temporary files, program caches, cookies, logs, etc. Use the Default settings. No need to use the
Registry Cleaning Tool...risky. Pay close attention while installing and UNcheck offers of toolbars....especially Google.
After install, open CCleaner and run by clicking on the Run Cleaner button in the bottom right corner.
CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download
Download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
Close all open programs and internet browsers.
Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.
Click on Scan button.
When the scan has finished click on Clean button.
Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
Please post the contents of that logfile with your next reply.
You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.
Download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator".
The tool will open and start scanning your system.
Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
Post the contents of J... Read more

'Move installed apps' and 'New apps will save to' setting is greyed out for me, after upgrading to Windows 10. Anyone else seeing the same way?
There was a way to Move Windows 10 Apps to Other Drive and Change Install Location.

Answer:Move installed apps & New apps will save to settings greyed out - Windows 10

It appears that this decision has been postponed by Microsoft:

We have actually made the decision to postpone the apps on SD functionality to a later release. While I know this feature excited many of us, we didn't feel like it was ready for prime time. Our goal is to delight users with everything that we build, and we truly feel that that is what will happen once we have fully built our vision for this feature.

if you simple check the Whatsapp it is double in size than the apps in Andriod store.
is not this a issue. it is eating too much of internal memory

Answer:Why are Windows Phone apps larger in size as compared to Andriod apps?

If true, then the app will occupy more space in storage (internal or SD card). There is however no direct relationship between file size and RAM usage. You can't tell, just by looking at file size, how much memory will be required.

I've tried doing a search in this forum, and didn't find anything relating to my problem.
I hope I'm posting in the right place.
I have a problem with my XP Pro. All patches are applied, no spyware/adware of any kind. I've scanned with AVG, TrendMicro, and used Spybot and Ewido, and on that score I'm clean.
My problem is when I'm trying to install an application, I get an error message that says 'the connection to the server was reset'.
I'm on dialup.
Is there a solution to this?
I appreciate any and all help.
Thanks and have a great day.
I have IE6.

Everything was working fine on my pc until the last update.
I am using Windows 8.1.
Suddenly I have about a dozen apps that worked perfectly for 2 years not working. Error is beside the ones that won't work for example Weather, CNN News to name a few. I uninstalled each one and attempted to install again but then get a error message that
they can't be installed due to failure 0x80070002. I searched around and did as what was suggested to correct the issue but still hasn't fixed the error or the app.
I have not changed any settings on the computer. When I did attempt to follow the suggested fixes for this it stated there were issues with the store and I did as stated to fix but still nothing.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
