Preferred Solution: After today's update Google won't load, how can I get it working again?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Google has released several new features for its Chrome web browser - which turned one earlier this month.
Chrome users can now personalise the browser with various themes and wallpapers, and order and change the selection of website favourites that appear when they open a new tab.
Google has also tweaked its "omnibox" feature - which combines the website address bar and search bar, adding icons to help users distinguish between suggested sites, searches, bookmarks and sites from their browsing history.

Went to manually update Avast. In doing so, when I updated the Programs, it told me that a new "Nitro" update was in order. After the update, avast no longer worked. After opening avast it said that I am not protected. I hit the start avast button and nothing! I even did a repair install. Still nothing. Never had a problem until this nitro update. Does anyone else have the same problem?

Answer:Avast not working after today's update

Having exact same problem here. It also has messed with my wife's Bigfish games where they now only go half screen. I uninstalled avast and installed Avira for now; but am not happy with it, seems to use more resources and takes forever to load windows when I start up.

Try uninstalling Here Maps and reinstalling them. Same with those other apps that are not running properly.

I cannot access windows update on my computer, which is running windows vista. I also get a redirect for some Google links (usually only the first result) and when I open my browser a tab for a Walmart gift card opens as well. I don't know if its related to these but a box about my host process for windows services closing has started to appear as well.

Hello. This site has helped me many times to remove malware, but this is my first time posting for help. Running windows XP SP3. Explorer pops up an extra window on startup and randomly with random sites (adsonar comes up alot), they often have a large yellow congratulations banner on top. Google links all redirect elsewhere. Yahoo causes intermitent redirects. I ended up with the Antivirus Soft from one of the redirects. Also noticed I cannot access windows update whatsoever , the pages will not load, I get a page reset errorInstalled IE8, on startup it warns me that a program is trying to change my default search engine. Redirects persist.I installed Mozilla Firefox, and the xtra window pop ups and google redirects are happening with it as well.Ran Defogger, DDS and GMER..................DDS (Ver_10-03-17.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Owner at 23:48:24.84 on Wed 05/26/2010Internet Explorer: 8.0.6001.18702Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.1033.18.1022.652 [GMT -4:00]============== Running Processes ===============C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost -k DcomLaunchsvchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcsC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe -k WudfServiceGroupsvchost.exesvchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\PROGRA~1\CA\ETRUST~1\realmon.exeC:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxtray.exeC:\Pro... Just recently I have gotten something that I can not get rid of. I have been running Malewarebytes and it found a few things and I cleaned them, I also ran HouseCall and it found a few other things and proceeded with cleaning what that program had found. I have run Mcafee and malewarebytes several times and in safe mode and they are showing nothing is wrong at this point. I also tried to run combofix as a suggestion from another IT friend and got a blue screen after it installed the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console and will not run the scan and just goes to a blue screen. The only info that I wrote down during the process was from housecall from trendmicro when it found stuff called (Adw Maxifiles, Troj Fakeav.Smes, Expl_Passrec.A, Troj_Generic.ADV, Worm_Palevo.Au, JS_Agent.ADV) I have also run CCcleaner program to clean up any temp files.
Maleware found these
Registry Keys Infected:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\avsoft (Trojan.Fraudpack) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.
Registry Values Infected:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\ejedsdyu (Rogue.AntivirusSuite.Gen) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.
Mcafee found something called Generic.dx(Trojan) and was deleted

Hi all,

I've got a an issue with one, maybe 2 systems on my network. My PC is Windows 7 based and a month or so ago started to act strange while connected to the net. Google redirected me to pages I had not asked to go to, some pages would not load at all until I manually type the URL in & Malwarebytes would no longer update -I just recieve an error and the scan shows 0 infections.

I use McAfee 8.7.0i Enterprise as my main Anti-Virus app and this also find nothing. I work in IT so I have seen this kind of thing before, I tried to clean my system with the usual tools even trying bootable CD version of AV scanners, nothing seemed to permently fix this issue though and even when my PC showed as being infection free malwarebytes would not update so I wiped my system, formatting my C: partition and then re-installed Windows 7.

My issue now is that even after a clean install I find I have exactly the same problems. Has anyone seen this before or have any idea how I go about cleaning it? The re-install seemed to fail to remove this issue last time so I guess that was not the way to go....

Cheers!

Answer:Google redirects, Malwarebytes unable to update and webpages which no longer load...

Have you eliminated an infected router?

Did you delete the partition before formatting?

Out of the blue, I got hit with a virus the other day. The most obvious aspect was "Antimalware Doctor", which I have since removed. I've run many scans, including avast boot scans, spybot s&d, combofix, and malwarebytes' antimalware.

Now it seems I am down to the following issues:

I am unable to load the Microsoft Update website
When I run a search in Google, the result links I click often redirect to an ad site
After my computer has been on for a while, I receive a "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services" crash message, which is soon followed by a loss of internet connection

Below are the requested logs, and attach.txt from dds is attached.

Thanks in advance for any help.

My System is as follows:

Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 3

Dell DIMENSION DIM2350
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 1.80GHz
1.79GHz 1.00 GB RAM
Windows Update no longer works from Start Menu or manually from Microsoft's website. From the start menu, when selecting Windows Update, it opens IE window but IE reports that "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" and has the "Diaognose Connection Problems" box. Typing the url to Mircosoft.com connects fine. Once on the Windows Update page it starts Checking to see if the computer has the latest version and then stops and reoports "X The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view."

Connecting to internet using the Desktop IE icon works and navigates to other sites ok too but often getting a Windows box stating "Generic Host Process for Win 32 Service has encountered a problem and needs to close. Do you want to report this to Microsoft..etc." I have selected to report it many times and then IE will usually shut down. Typing a search phrase in the IE search box returns Google results to the page but when selecting any of the search results it ends in a redirect to some unrelated page. This does not happen if you type the url for Google in the address box and then do the search. All of these things happening seem... Read more

Answer:Windows Update Not Working/Google Redirects

Good evening. Download TDSSKiller.zip from Kaspersky from here and save it to your Desktop. You will then need to extract the file(s) from the zipped folder.

To do this: Right-click on the zipped folder and from the menu that appears, click on Extract All...
In the Extraction Wizard window that opens, click on Next> and in the next window that appears, click on Next> again.
In the final window, click on Finish

Please close all open programs as this may result in a reboot being necessary.
Double click TDSSKiller.exe to begin. Click Start scan and allow the tool to do just that. One the scan has completed, if the tool has identified anything allow it to carry out it's default action(s) - you'll need to click Continue where appropriate. Finally, if it prompts you to reboot your machine, please click Reboot Now and ensure that your machine does so.

If the scan finds nothing, please click the Report button and let me have a copy of the text file that opens. If you reboot your machine, the log, which i'd like to see, will be located at the root of you hard drive as C:\TDSSKiller.Version_Date_Time_log.txt.
Please check that you get the one with the right date and time.

I also can't seem to get to a number of webpages, including mcafee. I have run Avast to search for viruses, SuperAntiSpyware, Malwarebyte's Anti-malware, spybot, and installed Zonealarm firewall.

Hello, I got a malware. MBAM said it was rogue.av, and ave.exe, and it removed it. But my google results are still redirecting, I cannot access any microsoft website, I can't use windows update to install hotfixes, and I am still getting popups. Now, MBAM, Spyware S&D, ESET, are all saying I'm clean, but the aformentioned stuff is still happening. I even ran combofix scanner, and it did a bunch of things, but didn't fix my problems really, besides my internet is a little bit faster now (webpages were going very slow).

I need to get this fixed if I can without reformatting, I have important business stuff on my drive for my company, and it's not backed up, I do backups monthly but the one time I didn't do a backup this happens! Ugh.

I got a virus about 4 days ago. After I got the virus, it said that my computer was infected and brought up a window and simulated a scan of my computer using the Antivir Antivirus program which I don't use. I use AVG and it is up to date. I closed the program and it kept telling me that it wasn't safe to not scan my computer. After that, any program I tried to open I would get a message saying that the file was corrupted, etc. This is what I've done so far to fix it.

1) I booted in to safe mode and restored the system to the last restore point. That allowed me to boot normally and download some antivirus/anti-malware programs.

2) I ran AVG and it didn't find anything.

3) I then ran malwarebytes and it found a few items and deleted them.

4) Ran Avast! antivirus and it also found a few infected files and deleted them.

5) I then ran both of those programs again to make sure everything was gone and neither found anything, so I assumed everything was good.

Over the next few days the Antivir program never came up to try to scan but I'm sure the computer is still infected. Every so often (usually after a reboot) I get the windows update in the system tray and it tries to download the update but it only says 0%. Then the icon goes away. Now I'm noticing that after I do a google search I can click on one of the links, but if I go back and click on another I get the following message "400 Bad Request" and below that it says "ngi... I think I may have a solution for you. *fingers crossed* Just uninstall the Malware Bytes program.

I got the Defense Center virus, but the first thing I tried was to run malwarebytes. That ran too slowly to remove the virus before it shut down my computer, so I ended up doing a system restore first. I was able to get rid of the virus with malwarebytes, but I followed up with AVG and AdAware. The virus seemed gone, minus the "Bad Request 400" error you mentioned.

When I saw your post, I noticed we had both downloaded malwarebytes. I just uninstalled it, reopened Google Chrome, and am now able to click on links without error. Hooray! Hope it lasts...

Now I'm noticing that after I do a google search I can click on one of the links, but if I go back and click on another I get the following message "400 Bad Request" and below that it says "nginx/0.8.35".

My Acoustic Research AWSEE2BK speakers were working about 2 weeks ago (last time I used them) and today they would not connect. I removed and reinstalled them a couple of times, this has worked in the past when I have not been able to connect to them. At this point, they are installed under Bluetooth devices, but they are not in the device manager - they used to be under sound and game controllers - and of course not in the manage audio devices, where they also used to be. Today they ended up under Peripheral bluetooth device in the device manager, and the drivers could not be installed. After much monkeying around, I uninstalled them again, and then they quit showing up in the device manager too. I have spent many hours on many forums and pretty much every manufacturers website I think, and cannot figure this out. My bluetooth radios are Dell Wireless 1704 Bluetooth v4.0+HS and Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator. I did go to the Broadcomm website and update the driver. I have also checked the Bluetooth support under features and made sure the settings were automatic and started, and I also re-started this feature. I have run the trouble shooter for playback devices and got no where because the speakers are not connected. Under device manager, when they were showing up as peripheral bluetooth devices, I tried to update the drivers from there. I have tried 'disabling' the built in computer speakers and reinstalling the BT speakers when the computer speakers were off and that did... Read more

I'm hoping this is the virus coming back again, and not that it was dormant in my pc the whole time. here is the link to the last time i had it. last time, from what i remember, it was only a firefox redirect issue, whereas now it seems to be on ie as well, and the windows updater doesn't work and the mcafee firewall won't stay on - when i press turn on, it automatically goes back to off

Hi everyone. So I'm having a problem. Every once in awhile Google will redirect to a nonexistent page on USA Today or a random Mexican senator's webpage. Actually the Mexican senator has only come up once, usually it's USA Today. GMail will give me a "page can not be found" while this is happening, as will any other google page I've tried other than the main google.com. It lasts for maybe an hour or so, then everything is back to normal. No other computers in my home experience the same issue, so I'm doubting it's something weird with DNS or anything like that.I use Firefox on Windows 7. I don't know if I've been infected with anything in particular; that's partially why I'm here. I use Avast!, Microsoft Security Essentials, AdAware, and Spybot, and none of them have detected anything. I've run scans through all of them while in safe mode, and still nothing detected. But the problem continues. I have a HijackThis log to post; I didn't run it in safe mode, instead I ran it as soon as the google redirect happened most recently. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.-----Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.4Scan saved at 5:09:57 PM, on 7/9/2010Platform: Windows 7 (WinNT 6.00.3504)MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.00 (8.00.7600.16385)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\Program Files (x86)\Spybot - Search & Destroy\TeaTimer.exeC:\Program Files\Alwil Software\... I use Google all the time -- used to, that is. One fine day, I suddenly couldn't access Google. That was about a month ago. I have no idea what might have changed to cause this. I run Windows 98 and use IE 5.5. I have a Pentium II machine with lots of room on my hard drive and lots of disk space for temporary Internet files, which I discard regularly. I also defrag my hard drive regularly. Any clues about this mystery?

Make and exact model and hardware version of any other network equipment, like a repeater, a booster, hi-gain antenna, etc.

Have you tried to do a system restore to before the problem occurred?
If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?
For wireless issues, have you disabled all encryption on the router to see if you can connect that way?
For wireless connection issues, have you removed all the stored wireless network profiles and then searched for the network?
For wireless laptops, have you made SURE the wireless switch is on?

Answer:Solved: Browsers will not load microsoft website but will load FB, Google etc etc

Either it's a problem server side for them, which would be an issue with your IP,
or a process/service altered some of your core system settings on your end which blocks the microsoft website for some reason....., you can try a different IP address just to make sure it's not server side for them, and then if that doesn't work I am not sure what to tell you other than reinstalling all browsers, and eventually refromatting if reinstalling browsers does not work.

IF it is an IP issue it could be something with your network, if a network admin blocked the microsoft website, or even theoretically your ISP if there was a strange issue with them, however that would be rare.

Hi

I've been using Launchy (http://www.launchy.net) for several years. One of my favourite features is the google search. You simply type "google", hit tab, enter your search criteria and click Enter and your browser starts up displaying the google search result.

Today I got automatically updated from Firefox 3.6.15 to Firefox 3.6.16 and now the search function doesn't work in Launchy anymore. I can't be sure that it has anything to do with the Firefox upgrade but I suspect it because that's the only thing that changed on my computer from when it worked to when doesn't.

I get the error message in the attached image file.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any solutions?

Regards,
Mattias

I have adblock plus installed etc.
NB Prior to this happening I got a warning message from kaspersky saying a malicious item was found close all pacakges, then click clean and pc will do an auto restart. I did this and bang all this stuff keeps popping up if I use google. I was on you tube last night looking at golf videos but not much else.

I have an excel spreadsheet with lots of dates on it. One time, I saw someone create an arrow or bar that automatically went to today's date on the spreadsheet, so a person would not have to scroll down through past dates to get to today's date. I tried to " create a new rule" in conditional formatting so that today's date was highlighted yellow. The highlighting feature works, but when I open the spreadsheet I am not taken automatically to today's date. Is that some other feature? Can it be done on the excel in google drive?

Answer:Go to today's date automatically in Excel in Google Drive

Hi,

I'm not sure about the "Conditional formating". But, You can have a code in the "Thisworkbook module" that will go to today's date.

So its been a good month and some weeks since my last BSOD crash. Now I've had two today in a short timespan of each other some 20 minutes before posting here and while doing the same thing:
Browsing in google chrome. EG: Opening a tab, reloading a page, etc...

don't know what causes it but must be something I'm doing in chrome or an other program not playing nice?

Either way putting a halt to browsing until this is sorted out.

Hello, hope I can get some help with this evil little annoyance?2 weeks ago I started having problems with a trojan that had disabled Task Manager, Regedit as well as Google searches to try and solve it. I thought Iwas able to get rid of it by using Hitman Pro malware remover.Since then I still have the "www.news-11-today.com/finance-news/breaking-news.php" popup as well as Google search redirects and Norton blocking attack activity when rebooting as well as when going online (occaisionly).Tried Spybot with no success and their also seems to be some interference going on with my 2 dvd drives as trying to read from disks or run a program (Spybot) from a disc leads to the computer freezing up but this could be totally unrelated I suppose. So I'll post the DDS log and I have gmer log as well as attach.zip file if required (not sure how to upload the attach zip though"so any guidence and support would be greatly appreciated please just tell me what to do??Thanks so much in advance just for looking in here though regardless of outcome.Another development is that even though I can read and access this forum I can't seem to post here from the infected computer IE just goes to "web page not found" maybe unrelated but definitly weird?DDS (Ver_10-03-17.01) - NTFSx86 Run by HP_Administrator at 19:43:43.90 on 17/06/2010Internet Explorer: 7.0.5730.11Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600.2.1252.1.1033.18.958.353 [GMT -7:00]AV: Protection Center *On-ac... Hello Thank you in advance for your help! Here is my situation...Other than the known Google redirect problem (google results aren't what they seem to be) that I've been experiencing in the past few days, I also seem to have a problem with loading google products/services such as Gmail, google maps, google reader, iGoogle, and google translate in Firefox. I don't know if the Google redirect virus is somehow related to this problem. These Google services I've mentioned simply won't load for me. In Gmail, the login screen appears fine but when I enter my username and password, it takes me to the "Loading [email protected]" and just tries to load it for a very long time until finally it says that I have a network problem. Also, I noticed that when I click the "Sign In" button on the Gmail login screen, the status bar on the bottom says: "Transferring data from secariadna.com..." which looks very suspicious to me (I can provide a screenshot of this if requested). The other services (maps, reader, translate) just won't load. For example, when I open a new tab and click on my google maps bookmark (for example) the window remains white and it keeps displaying: "Transferring data from maps.google.com" in the status bar. Sometimes after a long time of loading, the map would eventually manage to load. I also have to note that picasaweb loads without a problem in FF, although it also displays "Transferring dat... Sorry for the inactivity tetonbob, alot of things came up for me. I will be able to stay active until the rest of the problems are fixed.

For the sake of providing some possibly helpful info in helping you assist me I'm going to report the following things that still seem to be wrong/ *this is a family shared computer so some of these mentions are from my dad also*

1. The computer seems to be running slower now. Mostly with load time at the beginning. Took 5 minutes to open firefox.

2. Big time trojans still quarantened and need to be removed and wondering if we need to go through more steps to clean out the whole infection.

3. I remember you mentioning something seeming off about mcaffee when you looked over it in one of the scans. I would like to get some assistance on figuring out what is wrong with mcaffee after we finish cleaning up the rest of the infection.

4. My brother says he has the Windows Security Suite Virus. Said its really hard to get rid of and isn't confident that it is gone. Said he's been to many tech help forums for one on one help but couldn't get rid of it. Needs a heads up from you guys if it is gone.

Answer:Suspicious entries with the google name in hosts file. Google will not load*2ndthread

You know what. Never mind. :/ Just delete this thread. And please delete the other thread too. I'm not going to be able to be back on after this post, I was really hoping we could have worked one on one to finish the fix today. I know we could have fixed the other problems if we worked one on one today like we had in the past. Its a shame we won't have time to fix the last few problems. :< Thanks for trying to help though.

I've been doing alot of tweaking and downloading the last few days, so it could be anything. i wanted to check Microsoft update because for whatever reason, Live Messenger was not logging on and SkyDrive wasn't accessible on my laptop, when both work fine on my desktop. i tried to get to Microsoft update through Google, the link in my start menu, and even the link on the Microsoft homepage but they all ended up on Google with the URL staying as "http://update.microsoft.com/". and it did this with both Chrome and IE7. also, for the last couple days, when i directly double click on the "(C:)" drive, an error pops up about not being able to find some "RECYCLER\S-1-1-14-100023495-100021663-100017297-4700.com" file, but when i type in "C:\" in the address bar, it gets there just fine. also, when i right click on "(C:)" i have the option to AutoPlay, and when i click "open" it asks me what program i would like to use to open "the file C:\". i am currently running an Avast virus scan, but it's a free program so i don't think it will get me very far... help would be greatly appreciated! oh and some programs i have been installing and uninstalling are Gladinet, windows live messenger from "http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Chat/Instant-Messaging/Windows-Live-Messenger-9.shtml" because the actual Microsoft site wasn't working (was told it was a broken link), VLC Media Player, Avast, F... so the trojan ended up not letting me run MalwareBytes, or any other powerful anti-malware software, and i was stuck. but after looking around the forums i decided to try renaming the "mbam.exe" file associated with MalwareBytes to mbam123.exe and it worked! it finally opened! however, it didn't let me update the rules file, but i was able to find a download from another post of a more recent update, and it installed just fine. with some anticipation i ran MalwareBytes and finally, it managed to beat this thing. or, i should say... these 12 things... here's the log:

Hello,

Google will not load and clicking on anything in youtubes login menu will redirect me to the google page which will fail to load.. I was told to check my hosts file by somebody on yahoo answers. Surely enough there are entries there that are not supposed to be there. How do I get rid of them?

There is also alot of redirecting in general going on. Mainly ad sites.

I have a windows XP.

These are the entries

Hello -

If you still require assistance for this issue, please do this:

Let's try this version of gmer.

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here to your desktop. Double click the exe file.
If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click on NO, then use the following settings for a more complete scan.

Click the image to enlarge it

In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following ... Sections
IAT/EAT
Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
Show All (don't miss this one)

Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and attach it in reply.

**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries

[EDIT] Disabled IPv6 in about:config fixed the problem for me.
I cannot access Youtube, Google videos, Google product fourms, etc... from any browser.
All other computers on the network have no problems loading any of these.
I've cleared every browser cache, reset and unplugged my router and modem, reinstalled my browsers, reinstalled flash, reinstalled my wireless drivers, got a new wireless adapter, went through an ethernet cable all to no avail. I've renewed/released my ip, flushed/actived DNS services and cleared the entries in my hosts file.
Other sites work fine, even other video sites. Sometimes I can search on Google.com but it's intermittant. Gmail opens after a lengthy amount of time. Rarely, I can get to Youtube, but all videos remain blank and will not even play the preroll ad.
Currently, trying to navigate to Youtube, it says "The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading."
I am currently using a PC running Windows 7 64bit.

Hi, I had some malware on my PC a couple of days ago. I believed I successfully removed it, however I'm getting reccuring issues.

-Google Chrome won't load any HTML files. From the web or locally saved.
-In IE and Firefox, Google Searches will redirect to ads/other sites.

I've run many antispyware software software and it's all coming up clean :-/ I'm stuck.

Anyone want to give a hand?

Frequently, not always, my up-to-date copy of Google Chrome fails to load Google Search. Particularly if I use the search/address bar, but even if I enter google.com. Other google sites load. In fact, when this happens, I just use the search web box in Gmail. Other sites have no problem loading and the computer is running fine. Other browsers (ie, firefox) never have a problem loading google.

Any ideas why this is happening? I ran through the malware removal guide months ago, but I'm going to do it again. I searched the boards and google and didn't find anything about this specific and weird problem.

Chris

Answer:Oh the irony - Google Chrome won't load Google Search

The only time I have ever had a problem getting the Chrome browser to load Google.com (both via address bar and bookmark) is when I'm on the Fedora Linux box. I just chalk it up to another one of the bajillion things that doesn't work right in Lamux. You get what you pay for. Were you, too, running Linux when you had this problem?

Was in the middle of creating an image on my data drive after todays update and at first, it threw write errors during the verification portion. The next try, more write errors almost immediately upon first scan. Went to disk management and it was no longer there, no partition nothing. Pulled it out tried on another computer and it seems that it will no longer power up. Just need conformation, I am screwed, no way to get any data at all without it at least powering up.?? The drive is 9 months old, still under warranty, worried about the data on the drive. What does WD do with dead HDD's? Maybe I will "adjust it" with my 2 pound hammer and loose the $ rather than risk data breach.

Answer:WD 1TB HDD failure today after update.

The AU update was causing people not to see drives/partitions anymore but if it won't spin up ,it sounds like you have a physical failure, still under warranty though , only you can decide how valuable what's on it is. Not sure how WD would spin it up if you can't without alot of trouble , so they likely just destroy it.
