Preferred Solution: Focus Assist Light won't turn off. Any idea how to turn it off?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Ok. So, I recently pulled a not so intelligent move. I have been studying computers for about two years on my own, in my spare time. I have a good deal of knowledge about them now, but the thought came to me --->," What does the CPU look like?". So, me being as bright as I am:nerd: I lifted up two (one on each side) levers which held down the processor (layered= Processor, Metal prong towers thing (I would love to know what this is for), fan) and took the contraption out of the socket. After a few "ooows" and "aaawwws" I pluged it back in, snapped the levers back down, and plugged in my computer once again. What do I get? My computer will not POST, no sound activity comes out of the tower what so ever. A Orange light on the front of the computer (where I push the power button) indicates a problem. This light used to be green. I opened up the case, and I can hold down a button on the PSU and it runs power through all the circuitry, and then I hear everything booting just fine. I can hear the normal "beep beep" when my computer boots, and the lights inside the tower come on, and also the fans start spinning. No visual output is being made. Can anybody please give me some ideas on what might have happend, and how to fix it?

Answer:Computer will not turn on. please assist

1. the Metal prong tower thing is called a heatsink, it is to draw heat away from the processor (to prevent it overheating and frying)

2. You'll want to check you put the cpu back correctly. Make sure you didn't get any dust/dirt etc. in the socket or on the cpu. Also, when you put it back, make sure the heatsink is firmly attached again. You shouldn't really be able to move it at all.

If that doesn't fix your problem, then you might have fried your processor.

For future reference, make sure you DON'T touch the pins on the processor, DON'T touch the processor without grounding yourself first (by touching an exposed piece of metal, such as the inside of the pc case) and ALWAYS make sure you unplug the computer before working on it.

Hello, I decided to take my brother's desktop that he got from our aunt a while ago.  It has been sitting in his closet collecting dust when I asked if he wanted to try to turn it into a gaming desktop.   I've done a bit of research but I still don't know if I can even upgrade it or not.  I want to be able to play games like CS: GO at 60+ fps and eventually other games at a moderate quality.  The problem is that I have no idea what to look for or what is even compatible for the desktop. Thanks in advance!

Answer:Found old PC, any idea what I can do to upgrade and turn it ...

Hi, The following link shows specs of the old computer:         http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c01896645 It is around 7 years old. To be able to play games with 60+ fps and eventually other games at a moderate quality, you need new CPU, new RAM, new video card therefore you need new motherboard and this may ending up you need new PSU ... well, looks like you need a new computer then. Given new technology comes out every second week, 7 year period is a very long time. This machine is still suitable for light office work (today standard) and browsing internet; not for games. Regards.

ok, so lets start like this: i dont know too much about computers, but i did a little research. i know what the motherboard is and i know that the actual power button on the tower just sends the signal to switch on or off to the power supply unit... And i havent done anything to my computer recently just have gone online. So All i did was shut my computer down last night, and it WOULDNT TURN ON this morning.
- i already tried unplugging and plugging back in, and changed the the power bar. everything else on the bar works (my light, the monitor, the dsl box, and the speakers) except the computer base.
PLEASE HELP!!

Answer:Turn Off Hard Disks a good idea ?

This is one of those topics! What's worse -- to let the HD motor run all the time or to make that small motor shut off and then have to restart spinning the whole drive. I think it's better to keep it running, but I'm sure that you'll get a collection of opinions.

Ok this is only an Idea, and I will test it as soon as my 7106 is downloaded, but for now, if someone of you have 7077 and 7106, here my Idea:

Windows himself has no Language since Vista!
on the install DVD there are the language folders,
for english
-\sources\en-us\ -\boot\en-us\
and the file
-\sources\lang.ini

so copy the english language from 7077 to the one of 7106 and replace the lang.ini

try to install

I think, it can work, because of the development do not change a lot from the language side, but more from the system itself.

Answer:turn 7106 chinese in English, Idea!!

actually build 7106 chinese is not the geninue release i guess!!!

its a well made tweak with build 7077 or earlier!!!

It was hard to get the flap closed, but even with it closed, it won't turn off. After messing with it a bit and turning the laptop off and back on, I can press the button next to it to open it and it closes fine. The light refuses to turn off still, even with the flap closed.Any help?

On my Website I have decided to put the disqus commenting system (as for feedback) in the footer of the site. I think it is a good idea, but I'm not too sure if it may turn out a bit confusing? What is your opinions? As for a professional site kind of point of view, a site you'd go to every day such as here, what do you think of this idea? Unique, clever, convenient, confusing, not a good idea?
I feel I am improving such a lot with my websites, and looking back at the very first website I made back in 2010, to how I am now making websites, I just don't recognise it as a site I may of made lol. I know I am using website builders so I'm not actually making the site, I'm just well doing everything other than the coding and having it on my own server, so I'm basically designing and //i think I am getting better with designing my sites.
Thanks for any feedback, (hoping you FE as you are experienced with websites so you will be able to give a clear answer if having the commenting system how I've put it is a good idea)
Jase Wolf

Answer:Could I have some opinions on if this is good idea or may turn out a bit confusing for my website?

What is it that you expect people to comment on?
One of the problems with inviting feedback in this way is that you'll be open to abuse. You're running the risk that people will simply use false email addresses, and leave inappropriate messages.
If you want to invite discussions about the subject matter on your site you would be better to use a forum system that requires a registration process.

hey guys, i have very recently started turning off the power at the mains switch during the night to reduce power consumption. the monitor, modem (which has an orange light on constantly), ext. HDD and the PC case are all connected to the mains.

is this a good idea? i heard it can reduce the possibility of an electrical surge that would badly affect the equipment? and of course it would reduce power consumption.

thanks

Hello wowlau, Thank you for posting on the HP Forums! I understand you would like to turn off the light next to the webcam. I will do what I can to assist you! This light is known as the "webcam light". It is shining while turned on. To turn off the light, you will need to turn off the webcam. If you want to turn it off: 1. Go into Control Panel.2. Click on Hardware and Sound.3. Click on Device Manager.4. Go to Imaging Devices, and double-click on the webcam entry that appears below it.5. Go to the Driver tab, and click Disable. Confirm it if asked to do so. This should turn off the webcam, as well as the light. If you want to enable it in the future, follow the same five instructions above. Just click Enable instead of Disable. These steps should help you out. Either way, please provide your results. Hello.  Apologies, I'm a beginner to the hardware aspect, and really need help before I spend any money if I can.I have a HP Pavilion a250y (D7219V) CTO Desktop PC, I think it was 1-2 gigs of ram, and I know neither the video nor sound card were standard, though I forget what they are (was bought this way, with upgraded cards).  It had windows XP home with I think sp2.  That's all the specs I can remember off the top of my head.Yesterday due to the risk of water damage, I had to quickly move the computer out of my room.  (The computer did not get wet.)  I had shut it down before I started taking out the cables, leaving the power cord for last.  Since it was out I also decided to blow the dust out of it before putting it back.  I took it back in once things were safe and connected everything, and saw the power supply light come on, but when I press the power button, nothing happened.  I had no problems before this, so I can only guess either I had started taking the cables off too soon, or I did something wrong when I used the compressed air.Fortunately my files are on an external hard drive, but if I could still get it back running, I'd be very glad.Thank you for reading.  All help and time is greatly appreciated.

Answer:PC won't turn on, power light is okay

Hi,You may have accidentally disconnected one or both of the wires that go from your power switch on the front of your case to the motherboard while dusting. If you look carefully inside your case, you should be able to tell if this is the problem by following the two wires from the power switch to the board. If they aren't connected, or only one is connected then this is the problem. Let me know if this is the problem, and if it is I will tell you how to reconnect them.

I have searched this forum and the internet for the answer to this question but have come up empty handed.
Different remedies that we tried:
Of course we tried to turn it off the normal way with Fn + F4 - NopeHold down the Ctrl + Fn + Insert keys together for about 5 seconds. - NopeHold down the left Ctrl + Alt + Shift buttons and with your other hand hold down the same keys on the right. Release. - Still broky

Any ideas?

Got the anniversary update on my HP Spectre 13T-3000 and now the mute button on my laptop is constantly lit, despite the fact that the sound works fine and the button itself does turn the speakers on and off successfully. Any ideas as to why the light just won't turn off?

Hi, Try the following. Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp65001-65500/sp65010.exe When done, hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63001-63500/sp63433.exe When the Chipset reinstallation has completed, restart the notebook. When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again and let windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K

Have you checked your PSU? Is it OK?If the PSU is OK then it maybe that your power jack is not connecting properly with your motherboard. You will either have to open it up and investigate or take it to someone who knows how to repair faults like that.___________________________________________? Hello, I have a Lenovo T400 Type 2764. I started having problems with it a few weeks ago, when it began randomly shutting off for seemingly no reason once every few days. When I would try to turn it back on by pushing the power button, nothing would happen (no lights). If I removed the battery for a few seconds and then reinserted it and tried again, it would reboot as if nothing had happened. A few days ago this same thing happened, but now even removing and reinserting the battery isn't helping--it won't turn on and no lights come on. I tried taking out the battery and plugging it into the outlet to see if it would run on AC power only, and the same thing occurred--no lights, no reboot. Any ideas as to what's going on and what I should do? I've used this computer almost daily for over four years and haven't had any of these problems until recently. Thanks!

Answer:T400 won't turn on or light up

Hi Sheepishsheep,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that you are facing the issue with No Power on ThinkPad T400.

This symptom could occur on some earlier T400 systems with down-level BIOS if the battery were completely discharged.  There are several methods to reset the system, and then once reset, the latest BIOS should be installed.

To reset:

1) Remove battery and AC adapter and then press and hold the power button for several times for about 10 sec each time.

2) Re-attach AC adapter and restart.  This should resolve in most cases

If the system has not reset, you may need to remove the CMOS battery and let the system sit for 30 mins to an hour and repeat steps above, then reconnect CMOS battery.  Additional information on the following steps to remove the palm rest can be found in the hardware maintenance manuals on the Lenovo support site http://support.lenovo.com.
How to remove CMOS battery http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-71484

1) Remove battery and AC adapter

2) Remove the 5 screws on the bottom of the system that have the icons for keyboard next to them.

3) Carefully lift off the palm rest and place it toward the front of the machine so you have access to the memory sockets.  If needed, carefully disconnect the ribbon cable connector that goes the system board - it lifts straight up.

4) Lift up the lower edge of t... Read more

First try would be to test the PSU (fan in the back thingy where you plug the mains cable in). Do NOT try taking it apart. Ever. You can check it with either a proper tester or by fitting another PSU on a temp basis.

Answer:How do I turn off the camera indicator light?

Hi esotericvision and welcome to the community,

Indicator lights are tied directly in with the hardware.  There's no software or special key presses that will disable just the indicator.  (That I'm aware of)

Less elegant, but as effective would be to mask the light with maybe a small circle of tape.  More permanent would be nail polish or paint.

THe light turned on for a little bit, but then it turned back off. The CPU and fan is running and I can see the display (barely), but the light will not turn on. This morning I turned it back on without the battery (but the power cord was plugged in) and it ran fine. I turned it back off and brought it to school with me. Now the laptop screen will not turn back on again. How do I fix this problem and get my laptop light to turn back on again?
Note: THe day before, I updated windows vista (not sure if that has to do with anything).

Answer:HP Laptop screen light will not turn on

This could be the backlight bulb or the LCD inverter.

Please post the model of the computer.

I have compaq presario sr2010nx xp (for 5yrs if that matters) anyway we had a power outage and the pc shut down like everything else ...the problem came in when everything else turned back on besides my pc! Now I've tried unplugging and rePlugging it back in,Dusting it off etc to No avail! I am ok with computers but ill need a walk through on specific terms of any because my google is limited because I only have my iPhone to work with.

I can say, there is a blinking green light on the back of it that blinks even when it's unplugged.. I do not know what this is for.Any advice to help me manually fix it would be great if possible even if only a temporary fix .. I am considering just buying a new one rather than taking it to a shop because of how outdated
It is. Thanks guys sorry for the typing /spelling mistakes again from iPhone lol. Also if I can get any good advice I'd donate money to the individual as well as the community. : )

Answer:Xp will not turn on green flashing light??

If there was an outage when the power came back on it might of caused a surge that possibly caused some sort of damage to the board or power supply. either way you might have to take it somewhere and know for sure exactly what happened and go from there if its worth fixing or not.a 5 year old computer isnt that old some can run longer than that before problems happen.i had a laptop that lasted for 9 years and when the screen went it was time to retire it.

I've had my bamboo fun for about 6 months, and it's always worked just fine until today when I came home. I haven't been home all last week, and the computer was off, so the power may have gone out.

The light is not turning on. I've unplugged it and plugged it back in several times, plugged it into a different USB port, and restarted my computer. The light still isn't turning on!

When I go to my Control Panel and click "Bamboo Properties," it says that "A supported tablet was not found on the system."

Please help!

I'm trying to help a friend with an HP PC that is fairly new - runs Win XP but don't know any other spec details.

The power supply's green light is on - but pressing the ON button does nothing... no noise, no fan no nothing. Is it that the power supply has gone out - even though the green light is on? Or is it the motherboard?

I could put in a new power supply for her but I hate to buy one then find out it's the motherboard.

All help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Think you will have to check BIOS settings. Look for an option called Illumination LED and enable it.
If it is already, then you will have to install all needed drivers and tools from Toshiba download page, but this feature should be enabled by default. Have you reinstalled your system or downgraded to XP?

This morning, I was working on my computer when it would randomly shut off. It did it a few times and I could immediately turn it back on. Now, it will not turn on at all. The light that says it is charging works. Also, if i close the laptop then open it back up, the power button will light up, then making an odd sound, and shut off again. The battery is not a removable one either, so I do not know what to do. Please help, I just spent 2 hours working on an assignment and it will all be lost if I can't get it turned back on.

This morning my computer auto-shutoff (before I woke up). When I went to turn it on, the box light and fans blinked on for less than a second and then nothing. I opened it up, it's clean (dusted it with air about two weeks ago), all lines look and feel to be securely in place, and the motherboard light is on, which I think rules out the power supply. So what is wrong with my system?

System Specs:

Power Supply: 470W Thermaltake (Silent Power Edition)
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz (1066MHz Front Side Bus) (4MB Cache) (Conroe)
MotherBoard: Asus P5N-SLI (Chipset: nForce 570 Intel) (SLI Compatible) (Conroe)
Memory: 2GB DDR2 Super Talent at 800MHz (High Performance)
Hard Drive: 80GB Western Digital (8MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA)
Video Card: nVidia GeForce 7600GT 256MB (By: XFX) (PCI-Express)
Cooling: Air Cooling (Certified Digital Storm Heat-sink and Fan) (Stage 1 Cooling)
OS: Windows XP ME 2005 SP2

I do plan on calling Digital Storm Tech Support this morning, but since they're a west coast company I have to impatiently wait for them to open at 9am. Depending on the problem, they may not be able to fix it either, so I come to you guys.

Thank you, in advance, for any light you can give to this problem.

A few months ago I bought an Alienware X51 R3 from Dell. It worked fine, but occasionally had weird issues, despite being a new powerful gaming desktop.
But starting yesterday, I came back to find it seemingly shut down. The power light was on, but the screen was black and the system seemed to be sleeping. I touch the power button, and nothing happens. Clearly it was already shut down, but I never told it to do that, and only left it for a few minutes.
I tried to turn it back on, but now the system does not boot, or even try to. The fans don't power up, the lights don't even turn on. The only thing that comes on is the power light, but it's dim. I have never seen that behavior in a computer before.
So, I made sure to disconnect the power supply and hold the button for 20 seconds, to make sure the charge was drained. Still the system won't power on. I turned on the monitor, but it works fine. The system isn't even trying to power on.
After doing my own research into the growing list of problems with the X51 desktops, there's a particular issue with the graphics card that comes with certain versions.
The GeForce GTX 970 card in this desktop seems to be prone to stop working, at least that's what I've seen in the problems reported by other costumers that ran into the same set of problems. I don't know for sure if that's the problem here, but the brick for the power coord still shows its own light when plugged in. It seems to be working... Read more

Hi all,

I have two 4TB Seagate Backup Plus drives, I sat the drives to go to sleep after 3 min in Seagate Dashboard program, the drives do go to sleep but the LED lights won't turn off, they are always on?

But if the same drives are connected to my iMac, they goes to sleep mode and the LED lights turn off.

What do you think the issue is?

Answer:Seagate Drive LED light won't turn OFF

Just out of curiosity, when the drives go into sleep mode do the LED lights either change color (ex: green to amber or yellow) or do the change their blink rate (solid light when not asleep, blinking light when in sleep mode.) Perhaps these Seagate articles can offer some help.

Ok, so I also made a video explaining my problem and doing some tests on it.  I've also attached a profile of all my computer's specs in the attached PDF form.  You can view the video at this link:https://goo.gl/photos/VrvjcAJy5beRt4B38For some reason, all of a sudden out of the blue, the red LED light of my Microphone mute button will not turn off.  No matter how much I press it, it doesn't go away.  It's really annoying.  In addition the button doesn't work.  I'm fine with the button not working as I've trained myself to not rely on those things anyways.  I really just want the light to go away.  It's very distracting.  The light stays on even in BIOS and the button is not doing anything. Thanks

Hi guys please help me to turn this new computer on.
This is a new computer that i installed and it worked for a month until motherboard went faulty. I sent the motherboard back and got a new one but now i still cannot turn it on after i install everything correctly (i hope). The led light on motherboard is at green so it should be receiving power from psu but when i pressed the front panel switch to turn on and nothing happens. After the first few attemps the fans spins for 1 sec then went off. After that few attempts my computer simply does not respond when i press switch.

It shouldn't be a problem with my psu since i just bought a new psu to test and i still having the same problem.
I disconnect everything from motherboard except cpu, heatsink, 1 RAM and PSU but my computer still won't turn on.
I even pull the 2 pin switch wire out of the 2-pin slot on motherboard and try to turn my computer on by using screwdriver to touch the 2-pin slot on motherboard and no luck.
I insert LAN wire into back panel and no light come out.

My spec:
Corsair cx600
Intel CORE I3-2100 3.10GHZ
Asus P8P67 LE
Kingston ValueRAM 2GB 1333MHz DDR3
Coolermaster Elite 330 Case
Sapphire HD 5670 512MB GDDR5
Seagate 320GB SATA-III

Any chance they sent me a faulty motherboard again?
Any help would be grateful

Answer:Motherboard light on but computer will not turn on

Make sure that the motherboard is not shorting to the case. Place the motherboard outside the case on a piece of cardboard... Install the CPU/heatsink, memory, and video card. There's no need for a hard drive at this point. See if the board posts at all. Make sure you connect the 4 or 6 pin power supply plug to the connector near the CPU

Answer:Back light under mouse pad won't turn off

QuoteLaptop overheats and shuts off because of back lightI have never heard of LED lighting or backlight of mouse/touch pad causing an overheat condition before. Are you sure this is the cause and its not the fact that its trying to charge the dead battery and the charge circuit is creating heat by trying to charge a bricked battery? Try removing the battery and running laptop without battery but powered directly from wall adapter.Would the hard drive happen to also be located in this area of the computer in which you have a hard drive that is roasting in its compartment. I have seen laptop hard drives fail and thy operate but roast in the compartment and cause a hot spot on the laptop. They generally fail pretty quickly too when they run this hot.

Is there a way to turn off the permanent light on  F5 Backlight Key For HP Spectre x360 P0A45AV 15"  convertible?Another thread mentioned that it was a BIOS update, but when I run my HP Assistant it shows that there are no updates available.  I have also checked for an available update by going directly to the HP support site and once again no BIOS updates seem to be available for this particular model.  I would really love to disable this light.  It seems to have been a design error to have the light enabled when the keyboard backlight is OFF.  It should have been designed to be enabled when the keyboard backlight is ON.Any info on if there is a solution for this would be much appreciated.Thanks!M.

First, I must say that I dusted this particular tower with compressed air. I had a little trouble getting the side panel off, and jostled it a little bit.

Anyway, I tried to turn it on this morning and the top light indicator flashes green once, then starts slooowly flashing dark red. I can count to 3ish in between flashes. The bottom light indicator also flashes faintly red.

I should probably add that this has happened before... I just figured I didn't push the power button correctly. Flipping the power strip on and off and trying again resolved always resolved it.

I bought it second hand but it has a sticker with some numbers on the top:

HP compaq
D3|vm|p24|40|k|256cr us
product # DL324A#ABA
SIN: mxd31904pj

2 pics of the inside:

http://i.imgur.com/Uarrcxx.jpg

Answer:Flashing red light when trying to turn on tower?

The flashing LED is an error indicator. The error is identified by the number of flashes:

LED and beep condition Description Power button LED blinks
4 times with 4 beeps Power Supply Power button LED blinks
5 times with 5 beeps Memory Power button LED blinks
6 times with 6 beeps Video Card or Graphics Power button LED blinks
7 times with 7 beeps Motherboard or System Board failure Power button LED blinks
8 times with 8 beeps BIOS or CMOS problem (ROM)
Having said that, if removing/restoring power to the PC resolves the problem, that typically indicates a faulty power supply.

I know this is a trivial matter, but it annoys me so here goes:I had to reinstall Win7 on my laptop. There are two lighted buttons in the top-right corner of the keyboard: one for wifi and one for audio. The wifi button turns orange when I turn it off and back to white when on, but the audio button won't switch colors, it stays white. It does work eg. I can mute or turn audio on with it. Any thoughts?

Answer:Speaker mute light won't turn orange

Dear Customer, Please install the below recommended softwares: Download the IDT Audio installer found on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5271102&swItemId=ob_130088_1&swEnvOid=406... When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver found on the following link.http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5271102&swItemId=ob_146756_1&swEnvOid=406... When the Chipset reinstallation has completes, restart the notebook and let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again before checking the function of the mute button led. Also update the BIOS from the below link:http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5271102&swItemId=ob_166746_1&swEnvOid=406...   Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again  **Click the White Thumbs... I have what I presume is a power supply problem:

When I turn my PC on at the plug, the green power light on the front of my case flashes at me, and I can't turn my PC on until it's stopped. The light on the back of the PSU also flashes. Now if it only flashed for thirty seconds, I wouldn't care. What difference does an extra thirty seconds? It's not as if the intarweb is going to die in the space of time it takes for me to turn the PC on at the plug, and then actually turn it on. The fact is, it flashes for a full thirty minutes, which leaves me sat in my chair, twiddling my thumbs. I don't get much time after work between coming home and going to bed, and in those thirty minutes I can get a lot done, which is why its' really starting to annoy me. It started about a month ago, with thirty seconds of flashing, and has slowly built up to thirty minutes.

Now if it's something I can fix with the right-sized hammer, then fine, I'll do it over the weekend, but if it's a case of getting a new PSU, well, I'm building a new computer in four or five weeks, and really don't want to be spending money on a new power supply - I'm going to have to borrow money from my parents as it is.

I've tried plugging the power cable directly into the plug socket, rather than into a surge protector - no difference.

I've tried unplugging the PSU from the motherboard and everything connected to it, then reconnecting it all - no diff... Read more

i have tried to turn on my laptop and there is an amber light where the green power light should be and it wont even power up what could this be

Answer:Satellite does not turn on - power light blinks

Hi

What notebook do you use?!!!

Seems the notebook provides a blinking code. This means that a hardware error was detected.
Usually the short blinking means 0 and long means 1.
The authorised service technician should be able to read such code and to locate the hardware malfunction.

Mostly it?s something wrong on the motherboard!
So I don?t think that you will be able to fix it. That?s not possible if you have no experience and the right tools and parts.

So in my opinion you should contact the ASP in your country for an help!

Good luck

Hi, just a quick question-My 11 month old medion akoya laptop will shortly be sent back to medion under warrantee because it wont turn on. The battery has been really poor for the last 6 months so i have just used mains power all the time. Two days ago it stopped turning when i pressed the power button. There is, however, a blue light on the very front of the laptop which has a very small icon next to it that looks like a battery with a lightening strike next to it...although i cant be sure as it is so small. My question is is there anything i could try please?Im just scared that Medion will just do what i've heard a lot of laptop companies do and start with wiping the HD, i really really dont want that!!

Answer:Medion wont turn on-but there is a blue light?

I would say yes it's a fair bet they could wipe clean the harddrive, (and also have a look at what you have on there - do you really want to have to worry about that?)I would suggest you take HDD out and copy all contents - maybe make a backup copy of your 'My Documents' and also make a full drive Acronis Image or similar. Then delete all your personal stuff including email, addresses, surfing history etc. and don't forget to empty the Recycle bin and all Temp folders. If you get a USB TO SATA IDE CABLE / ADAPTER like this one from Amazon click here you can hook up the laptops HDD to another pc via USB and sort the contents out.

Hi, I have a Satellite L300

There is a green light on under the F11 button. Since this came on only some keys work on my keyboard, I am using a usb keyboard at the moment with no problems. How do I turn the green light off or is it a keyboard fault?

Answer:Re: Satellite L300 - How to turn off green light under F11 key?

Hi,

to be honest, I don't know anything about l300 but maybe you should press Numlock to disable it.
