Preferred Solution: Does downloading stops when windows 10 is in sleep mode?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Does downloading stops when windows 10 is in sleep mode?

No, it doesn't stop.

Hi, I'm having an extremely annoying problem with Google Chrome. I am trying to download large files which are taking about 3-8 hours to download. I don't have that much time, so I have to put my computer into sleep mode. Now, the problem is, I put it into sleep mode, turn it back on, Chrome says the downloads are finished. I open one of them, and it says the file is corrupt. What can be done to fix this?

Hi all.
I have Power Options on my Desktop PC set to defaults..i.e Balanced is set to 10 minutes for display and 30 minutes for Sleep.
Yesterday I went to Windows Store to download the Windows 8.1 Update to update my Windows 8.
I clicked the download button and went to watch TV while it downloaded. After a while I noticed that my PC had gone to sleep. I pressed the sleep button on my keyboard to wake the PC up. I wasn't sure if the Windows 8.1 Update would just resume where it was before it went into Sleep mode or whether I would have to start the download again by going back into the Windows Store to download it again from the beginning. After waking my PC up I decided to just leave it at the desktop screen to see what happened. 3 hours later the message came up saying that the PC needed to be restarted to install the update. When I have downloaded the Windows Update in the past it usually takes 2 hrs and 15 mins but I noticed that Microsoft have changed the Windows 8.1 Update slightly since I last installed it so I wasn't sure if that accounted for the download taking longer than usual. Some of the Download options/screens are different on the latest version so the Windows 8.1 Update has definitely been altered slightly.

1. Will the download have continued from the point where it was before it went to sleep or will it have had to restart again from the beginning?

I have a Windows 7 64-bit here. I left a download open overnight and woke up thinking it would have been finished, but it wasn't. It seems that the computer went to Sleep normally even though there was a download running. My current power setting is 'Balanced'.

Is there any way to prevent the computer from going to sleep while downloading but without disabling sleep altogether?

Answer:Sleep mode while downloading?

I believe that is program dependent. The program has to be coded to prevent the sleep mode kicking in while its running. Maybe you can check the settings if there is an option preventing sleep mode there.

This is not really a problem as such, but I would like to know why this happens if someone could enlighten me.

I have a powered USB hub attached to my Acer Laptop. When I leave this attached and put the laptop into sleep mode, Windows closes down OK but the fan and hard drive keep running. If I power down the hub before entering sleep mode the laptop goes normally into sleep mode. Can anyone explain why this happens?

I use my computer as HTPC, so I always use sleep mode. In last few days it wakes up through the nights and doesn't react for anything, so I need to shut it down by starter button. Then, I have to reset my BIOS, because if not, my PC starts, but doesn't react for anything too. I'm testing sleep mode now and I can see that after two-three times, PC starts waking up immediately after I try to sleep it and is totally dead as after night wakes.Last night, I've just shut my PC down and everything was good, but it works for years as HTPC, so sleep mode is much more comfortable.Do you have any ideas?

Hello everyone, I just purchased a new Dell Inspirion laptop about a week ago. Right out of the box it connected to wifi with no problems. I noticed the second day however that sometimes after it was in sleepmode(lid shut) it sometimes cannot connect to my router until I shut my computer down completely and restart. It can see the router, but it is unable to connect completely. I don't think it is the wifi card because the drivers are up to date and I can connect to an unsecured router in the area with no problems. It almost always works after a complete shutdown.

If anyone has some info or things to try it would be very appreciated.

Hi,

I have a Prot?g? Z10A and the touchpad and keyboard intermittiently stops working after sleep mode. I cannot wake it up or restart without re-booting.

I have done the update to the firmware keyboard docker as advised in a thread on January 2014 but this has not helped the problem.
This computer is only 2 weeks old.

I have been to download site and updated all drivers and updates.
The computer works perfectly except for this problem.

When the tablet is asleep the white led is blinking, and when it is all works ok, but if the light for some reason is not blinking but permanently lit then it will not restart and I have to re-boot the tablet.

I have disabled the hibernation mode in options but still no help.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Answer:Portege Z10t-A - touchpad intermittiently stops working after sleep mode

Hi

I?m wondering if the option (within the BIOS) called Wake-Up on Keyboard is enabled.
To restore the operation of the computer from sleep mode, press the power button or any key on the keyboard dock for a short amount of time. But the keyboard keys can only be used if the mentioned option is enabled.

Note: when the notebook is in Sleep Mode, the power indicator will blink white. If the power indicator does not blink white, the notebook isn?t set to sleep mode!

Just bought Lenovo notebook with Windows 10 Home.

On my old VISTA laptop, when I put my computer in sleep mode and then woke it up, I could always view my connected MP3 player and its files.

When I do the same with my new notebook, I have to unplug and re-plug the usb connector in order to view the mp3 files.

I tried fixing by going into device manager, power management for the USB hubs, and unchecking the "allow this computer to turn off..." setting.

I alsodisabled this:
I appreciate help, thanks

Answer:Putting computer in sleep mode stops viewing my connected mp3 player

If you disable USB Selective Suspending and uncheck 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power', your MP3 shouldn't have any problems. Perhaps double check witch device you unchecked.

Hi All,

I'm new to this forum, so let me introduce myself;
I live in South Africa, in a remote region of mpumalanga.
While I certainly know my way around hardware and software, there
are still problems that just stump me out.
Having said that, on to the problem:

I have a fresh installation of Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit,
and whenever I try to download ANYTHING from any website,
the download always stops at about 2Mb, as if IE just wont allow anything over 2mb to be downloaded.

Nothing wrong with my connection (just a bit slow, compared to the rest of the world), and I have no anti-virus running or other protection software.

I came across a thread on this site dealing with the problem, but I cant seem to acces the links that are shown for the solution.

Here is the link:
[SOLVED] Internet stops downloading after a few seconds

Can someone please explain to me exactly what I need to do to fix this, as it is apparently an issue with windows, and not my ISP?

Thanks in advance guys

Answer:Windows 7 IE stops downloading at 2Mb

Hello,

I posted the steps that were taken to solve the problem in the other thread you linked.

I'm at the end of my wits here trying to figure out what is going on with my pc..

I have an overclocked pc, to 4.6 which has been rock stable.. sleep mode has worked fine.. i choose sleep and it stays asleep..

I decided to wipe my C drive on my samsung Evo ssd (no samsung software running).. and start clean.. i also tested this on my older test image, same issue..

If i choose sleep, it instantly comes back out of sleep (same with doing a shutdown too, though if i shutdown from bios no issue)..

I've tried everything.. i've tried viewing the wake events, nothing really there as a clue..
I've tried setting wake timers to disabled.. tried setting the nic card power management to off.. tried disabling the nic too.. saw that the mouse and keyboard are set to wake, set those to disabled for waking, no change.. tried pulling every usb from the machine.. still the same.

I've also tried updating via device manager various drivers, using the update button, some did update, but made no difference

Some of the commands i've used include:
powercfg -devicequery wake_armed
powercfg /requests

Also ran the sleepstudy option, but when it says woke up, cause is "unknown"
Again, this all worked fine about 10 days ago on the old OS, its the new one giving it fits (and technically my older test win 10 image too for some reason).

I went into the bios and disabled the overclock for the most part, basically took my ratio from 46 to 43 (i7-6700k).. same ... Read more

I have been fighting this problem now for over a month. I have searched and searched forums for info on this and have found an awful lot of people who have or have had this problem. I have tried everything I could find and recommended to solve this problem but no good so far.
I hope someone here can help on this.
I have tried Malwarebytes, Spybot, removed Norton Sercurity Suite, tried to uninstall and re install Flash Player, but nothing but extremely short downloads will complete its download, something about 1/2 Meg in size.
I have tried Firefox and IE8. Tried disabling "AD ONS" for both, but does no good.

I am now considering copying everything to another storage device and do a complete restore of the OS.

Any ideas will be tried in hopes of solving this problem.

Both these computers are about 3 years old.

What is strange is, I have a DELL, running xp Pro, 3.00 GB RAM, 2.66 GHz Processor in the same room, running on the same home network and it has not skipped a beat during or before this time.

HiI am trying to get support to fix my laptop, a Lenovo T430S. When I put my laptop to sleep, it crashes and doesn't recover from the sleep mode. I have updated most of the drivers involved with network, power management, and USB. I have copy and pasted the BSOD crash report - which shows TCPIP.SYS a isnd NTOSKRNL.EXE involved in a Drive_Power_State_Failure. I feel that some of the drivers are corrupted. If there had been any corruption at all.....you would   1. probably have problems starting your pc

Hi,
I've had this problem intermittently on my laptop for the past 2 years however it has been occuring more often recently.

Basically sometimes when I click the sleep button on Windows 7, the screen fades to black as usual. However the fan keeps running (sounds like when it's on full load) and the power button light stays on endlessly. I always have to force shut it down and restart it.

What can be the issue?
Thanks.

Answer:Laptop freezes between entering sleep mode to being in sleep mode

Hi joseph10444.

Such a situation may occur when some driver (mostly the PnP device drivers depending on the ACPI configuration) fail to response within a stipulated time period during the power state change.

Let us see some data. Upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.
Click on the start button
Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.
Upload the list of all the third party drivers Using NirSoft DriverView :
Download and execute Driverview
View > Hide Microsoft Drivers
Edit > Select all
File > Save Selected Items
In the Save dialog, Set the path to desktop, Put "Driverview" in the name field, and save.
Zip the .txt file and upload it.
Those files will give us a closer look to the issue.

Answer:Windows Sleep mode

I 've had bad experiences with the sleep/hibernate mode in Win XP and desktops but so far none on Win 7 laptops. I would just usually turn off monitors when leaving my desktop. However, if you are testing sleep mode for Windows  and other issues, go here -> http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Sleep-and-hibernation-frequently-asked-questions Wake On LAN blog http://windows7-issues.blogspot.com/2011/03/wake-on-lan-wol-for-windows-7-made-easy.html

wreaks havoc with my Norton full system scan. It is scheduled weekly, but never does it, because my computer is on, but sleeping. How can I get the scan to not stop during sleep mode or scan if it's in sleep mode? I having to constantly unsleep my computer or change my control panel settings then change it back. I can't find where to do this...which is completely stupid that it even does this IMO.

Thanks.

I am trying to get my PC to be woken from sleep by the keyboard. My keyboard and mouse are both USB devices so I have gone into my bios to enable USB devices to wake PC from sleep.

Now though my PC wont go into sleep mode all it does is breifly enter sleep mode then straight away comes back out of it, is there any thing that can be done to get around this problem.

From what I can gather there is no fix for this, but as there are some very knowledgeable people on this forum I thought I would ask.

I think I have tried everything but windows 10 will not go into sleep mode without manually doing it from the start/power button, has anybody struck this issue and have they resolved it? any help would be appreciated

Answer:Windows 10 sleep mode

You mean automatically or from the start menu? The sleep button in the start menu appears when you've installed all of the updates for Windows 10. If you want Windows 10 to sleep automatically after a certain amount of time, you will need to go into the Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Power Options>Change when the computer sleeps.

My Brother has a HP500B with windows XP SP3 installed. It powers up, shows the screen and goes to sleep. The mouse and keyboard will not wake it, rebooting does not help. I have set the power options to never for everything and received an error message "indicates two levels are incompatible. I deleted all the stored power modes and tried resetting under "never" and it is still going into sleep mode. The screen goes black, if I press a button by the power light on the monitor, it comes back on briefly. I tried changing monitors, but the problem persists.

Have you tried booting to Safe Mode yet? If you can get into SM, I recommend turning off your startups and then try booting to see if it's one of those. To do this (in Safe Mode):

Start->Run->type msconfig and press enter->General tab->Select Diagnostic startup

This will disable all of your startups. Now boot the PC into normal Windows to see if the problem is persisting.

I cant find any sleep mode in windows 10 .... I cant get my laptop in sleep mode why ???
I any knows please help me

Answer:Why is there no sleep mode in windows 10?

In my Windows 10 laptop, there is Sleep mode, but I had to re-enable this feature first.
To enable it:
1. type "Lid" in your Start Menu, then click on "Change what closing the lid does". You will be brought to a System Settings Page.
2. In that page, click on "Change settings that are currently unavailable".
3. Scroll to the bottom of the page.
4. Make sure that "Sleep" is checked so that it will be shown in the Power Menu.
However, you may want to be cautious in using Sleep Mode for Windows 10. Unlike Windows 7, sleep mode turns off the hard drive making the laptop safe to move and transport. But in Windows 10, it seems that the hard drive doesn't turn off completely, making it unsafe to transport or move the laptop (risking damaging the HDD).

Hi,
My Win7 PC has recently stopped powering off in sleep mode. I ran powercfg/energy in command prompt, which gave me a report with 6 errors which state:
"USB Suspend:USB Device not Entering Suspend"
, and one which says:
"Platform Power Management Capabilities:PCI Express Active-State Power Management (ASPM) Disabled
PCI Express Active-State Power Management (ASPM) has been disabled due to a known incompatibility with the hardware in this computer."

I have googled for answers as much as I can, but with my very low level IT experience, I've yet to fix the problem.

So far I've tried:
updating drivers for all USB devices in device manager (they were all apparently up to date)
checked powersave options

Can somebody suggest other things I should look into?
The main point is that to the best of my knowledge, I haven't installed anything new or changed any settings on my PC (I've been away for a month, but it was powering down fine the first few days on my return).
I'm wondering if some kind of software update could be the cause, but what I'm most worried about is if I've had some kind of a security breach during the course of trawling the internet (I'm using Bit Defender on auto pilot mode, nothing's been reported so far).

Hope someone can enlighten me. Thanks for your time.

Answer:Windows 7 not going to sleep mode

I just witnessed something else - the PC DOES power down after 30mins of idleness, but then immediately powers up again (I can hear the fan whirring even though the pc and monitor appear to be in sleep mode).

Problem:
Desktop won't go into sleep mode.

For months my computer would manually go into sleep mode. Settings were set to turn off monitor after 15 minutes and go into sleep after 25 minutes. While file sharing the computer would not go into sleep mode (my setting).

Today I noticed that even when I'm not file sharing the monitor would turn off, but the computer would never go into sleep mode as scheduled.

What I've done:
(1). Checked to make sure my drivers are up to date, which they are (especially my video card), wake timers are turned off, etc.

(2) Ran CMD as admin (Start > cmd > right click, run as admin) > power -energy. After a minute i received:

Hi all,

Can anyone help me find out why the space-bar on my keyboard will open up the first profile in the list in Windows 7, instead of just waking up the computer after it goes to sleep? I could just tap the keyboard in XP to get it to wake up, but now, if I touch the keyboard to wake it, it goes right to the first profile. I have looked in power management but don't see anything related to which keys will do what. If I right-click on the mouse, It will wake the computer and take me to the profile login screen, Which is where I want to be.

Thanks in advance for any help. :confused

Answer:Sleep mode on Windows 10

This problem started in the beta phase for some Windows 10 users. In the first week of August, this year, there were many threads about this problem from new Windows 10 users. It has not been fixed at this point. Several people with the problem indicated that they had contacted Microsoft and their computer's manufacturer, but the problem was still not fixed, not by power drains or any other method suggested by support representatives. No updates have fixed the problem. The only fix is to go back to Windows 8.1 and hope they eventually care enough to come up with a version of Windows 10 that works like it is supposed to.

Hello just installed Windows 10 a few weeks ago and coming from Windows 7 I really love it had to get a book because it's so much to learn but I'm really enjoying it. The only problem I'm really having is that after installing a few applications windows
10 is now not going into the sleep mode. I read on Cnet about this problem that it might be an application that's running that's not allowing Windows to possibly go into the sleep mode. Hoping someone can help point me in the right direction to get this resolved.
Why is there no forum for Windows !0?? Hope I'm in the right place. Thanks!

This week, I encountered the following strange problem for which I haven't found a final solution so far, though I have found some bandaids. But having a complete solution -or at least a reason why this problem occurs- would be great:
I have a working installation of Windows 7 Professional x64 in UEFI mode. The main disk, SSD #1, contains the following partitions (using GPT): ESP, MSR, system, data. An additional disk, HD #2, with a single data partition (using MBR) is also attached to the system. With this setup, everything works fine.
Now, after adding another disk, HD #3, to the system -my old system disk (bootable, using MBR, one active primary partition and an extend partition with three logical disks)- Windows will no longer boots completely: The boot process begins, the Windows logo is shown. Then, a message is shown in text mode "Windows is loading files" with a loading bar. After a while the boot process stops and I am dropped into the EFI shell. After removing the offending HD #3, Windows boots normally again.

I tried removing HD #2 and only attaching HD #3 together with SSD #1, but this yielded the same problem. Using SSD #1 by itself works fine though. Booting from a Linux live-cd works without problems. All disks and partitions are found and can be mounted. There, I erased the disk signature from the offending HD #3 and now Windows was able to boot and also found all disks and partitions correctly. But after a reboot the same problem reappeared.

My ... Read more

I am using Windows XP home edition with SP3. It was working normally. I used to get a popup "Windows cannot find "syssetup.exe"....When i opened yesterday morning I found it taking longer and never go to the desktop after giving the username and password. It stops at Welcome screen with a msg "Loading your personal settings" and no more response. I followed below steps to trouble shoot the issue.

1.I have tried opening in both "safemode" and "safemode with networking", found its working fine. I ran "msconfig" in safemode and unchecked some unwanted applications(nothing related to windows process) and tried again opening in normal mode.... Not worked

2. My internet works normally in safemode. Found some virus by running antivirus in safemode and cleared all the viruses.

It would be really appreciable if any one could solve my issue..

Cheers!

When system goes to sleep longer than a hour and you wake it up the bottom third of the screen freezing.

The top 2/3's get split like window pane a when you scroll the top 2/s's will scroll but the bottom 1/3 will remain as it was before sleep...

Also the bottom third wont have any hover icon effects though icon will still work, the task work as intended...

If I restart the programs the will work fine but windows has to restart for icon hover effects to work....

Any Idea whats going on here...

It started shortly after I got my GTX470 and I installed the first set of 25x.xx drivers. I thought once they had a chance to mature a bit it would come back, but its been a view months now and I have a GTX480. I'm now working from home and have to leave the house for periods of a few hours and I would like to get the ability to put my PC to Sleep again so I don't just turn it on and off twice a day. I confirmed on 2 other PC that have NV cards and 25x.xx drivers that I can't get them to sleep (GTX285 and another GTX480), my notebook with the notebook versions of 25x.xx go to Sleep fine (9800M GTS). Any advice would be well appreciated.

I have tried unpluging all USB devices and putting it to sleep, but it just goes through the process and then powers back on, same deal. This all started with 25x.xx drives. I always use Driver Sweeper to clean drivers after I uninstall the old ones from Safe Mode.

Windows 7 is freezing in sleep mode now... I don't think it's my drivers or anything because 2 updates earlier it worked fine. I'm wondering if anyone knows if this is an RC problem, or if something is wrong with my computer. I hope not since this computer is only 2 week old... There is like nothing on it and everything downloaded has been from a disk so no viruses (well except kasperky anti-virus but I HOPE that would be clean lol).

Basically when I put it into sleep manually, I cannot get it out, and my power/reset buttons do not work, I actually need to turn off the electricity.

Oh, and it's not my screen considering I CAN turn my screen on but it goes right back into powersave mode (sleep mode). I DID force it out once, and it said no signal from the computer even though the computer is on. This leads me to believe it is the OS (or god forbid one of my parts).

WAAAAAIIIIIITTTTT I just realized something... I have on HD connected via sata cable, but I took the power away from it (I wanted to hear something). I mean is that the possible cause? I doubt it though since it's not registered as an HD due to having no power... And my sound card light is on, so I'm assuming that is still on when I put the computer in powersave mode... Maybe that's an issue?

I'm using a Bluetooth keyboard and Bluetooth mouse when I put it to sleep I can't wake up unless I press my start botton I should be able to wake up either touching the keyboard or moving the mouse

Answer:I can't wake up windows 10 after sleep mode

Welcome to Windows Central.
There are mixed findings/opinions and suggestions on this matter since the issue could be a result of a mixture of different issues, such as hardware settings, drivers, software settings and configurations, etc. Some of the solutions worked for others while not working for others. Some of the ideas discussed are:
1. If you let your PC sleep using a hardware button, then that same hardware button should be able to wake the PC up.
2. If you've allowed your PC to wake up through USB in the BIOS, then put your PC to sleep and then unplugged any USB device attached to it while it was sleeping, then that PC won't wake up unless the hardware power button is pressed. This could also be applicable to Bluetooth devices, since Bluetooth may be temporarily disconnected when the device goes to sleep.
3. If your PC had a custom manufacturer-specific software (e.g. Samsung Control Center) that allows the laptop (what device are you using, by the way?) to wake up when the lid is opened, then this feature was completely removed in Windows 10 brought about by the uninstallation of that software. You would need to re-install that software, run it in compatibility mode for a previous version of Windows and then re-enable the said feature.
Should you wish to provide us with more details or ask further questions, please don't hesitate to create a Windows Central account and respond to this thread.

My computer lately runs really slow on a sporadic basis so I tried doing a registry cleaning and optimization with WinThruster. While it didn't fix my computer's slowness, I've had a new annoying problem pop up.

Every time it goes into sleep mode and I try to access it through logging in, my computer doesn't go straight back to Windows 10 and instead it just loops back into the login screen. It does this even if I input my password or if I just press enter without inputting anything at all. I would have to restart my computer everytime in order to login properly which is annoying. Occasionally I also have the same problem when just turning my computer on, so I'd have to restart. I'd like to be able to properly login from sleep mode again.

Answer:Can't access Windows 10 from sleep mode

OK, I thought it was just me, but since the AU when I put my machine in 'Sleep', and then later try to revive it, it doesn't come out of sleep and I have to do a hard shut-off, from which it doesn't always completely boot-up, but occasionally hangs, so that I have to do the 'F9' Restore to get it to actually boot into Windows . . .
As a temporary fix I am just not using 'Sleep' for right now . . .

That is obvious & we all know, if we leave our Widows 10/8/7 computer idle for awhile then by default it will go into sleep mode. In the sleep mode, the computer stops all processes until you get back to your system. When you are up to handle the system, it starts up again quickly from the same place it was.
Simply, sleep mode saves the power. In a laptop, sleep mode helps users to preserve the battery power when we are not working. We can change the amount of idle time necessary before Windows 7 puts our computer to sleep mode. Take a look:
To customize the settings, first we have to open "Power Options". To do so, Go to Start > Control Panel > Power Options, or simply search for "Power Options" (without quotes). You will see a list of different power plans on your computer.
The plan currently in use has a blue dot in front of it. Click "Change Plan Settings" next to the power plan currently in use. Click on the drop-down menu list, that is exactly next to "Put the Computer to sleep:". From the options, you can set the amount of idle time before entering sleep mode.
Click "Save Changes" after modifications & you're done! Bingo!!! Note: Laptop users will have two drop-down menus, one for when the computer is plugged in and the other for when it is running on battery power.
In Windows 10, You will also see the setting under Setting > System > Power & Sleep. You will see a drop-down for When... Read more

Hello,

First of all - can anyone answer me on wich e-mail adress should I send all of my reports to Microsoft regarding Windows 7 problems that I encountered ?
Second, here is the problem wich was very annoying but I did solve it so my point is to warn Microsoft about this so they can fix it in future Windows update or Service Packs for Windows 7.
When you are using (for example I used "High Performance" Power Plan) and in advanced options of any of Power Plans you let option - "Hard disk - Turn off hard disk after" to be turned ON (for example if you make your hard disk turn off after 15 minutes) you will have some serious trouble.

This was happening:

In Windows Vista - all worked well. I would put my PC in sleep mode, get back for hour and just press power button on my PC and he went up pretty fast. That was great option and it was working just fine.

But in Windows 7, I found out trough days and days of testing that when I put my PC to "Sleep mode" if it's "Sleeping" more then 15 minutes - I just can't get it back to desktop from sleep!

I would press Power button, fans would start but then PC would just shut down and try to start itself again and again until i completely shut it down from power and re-started it again.
After some time I was very mystified by this problem and many of my colleagues and friends had similar or the same issue. One day we all discovered that if we set "Turn off hard disk" option to... Read more

I've been having quite a few problems with my laptop recently and it all started with a software I downloaded so I'll list in order of what happened.

- I have a HP Pavillion DV6000 which I bought a year ago, no problems apart from a faulty motherboard which I had fixed

- I recently downloaded a software known as rocketdock which is nothing more than a copy of the Apple Mac scroll bar that has all the icons.

- I then managed to delete my videos folder by accident and as it was too large, it was not kept in the recycling bin

- I downloaded a programme known as "glaryundelete" that retrieves lost documents and files and got a few of my word documents and a few videos back but some videos were corrupt

- I deleted glaryundelete and rocketdock as my general speed of my laptop decreased for some reason

Problems now:

- My windows aero theme has vanished for some reason and I think this has something to do with system configuration where I changed a few startup settings but I don't remember the original ones

- My laptop does not go into sleep mode. I've never had problems with the sleep mode but all of a sudden it no longer does that when I close the lid or press sleep button.

I've had a look at the power plan settings, they are all perfectly normal and according to them, it should go into sleep mode but it still doesn't.

Does anyone know what's going on or has faced similar problems? Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

I have a Sony Vaio F laptop that has Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and an i7 processor. When I close the lid or click on "Sleep" the computer does seem to go to sleep. The power light goes to amber. When I wake it up, I get the Vaio splash screen and then an error stating that Windows did not shut down properly. I can choose safe mode options or boot normally. If I select boot normally, the computer boots up as if I had just done a cold boot. This happens on all power profiles. Hibernation seems to work fine, but I prefer using Sleep mode.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hi, flwolf,

Check this ArsTechnica article from February 12, 2010 Microsoft details Windows 7 memory leaks, hangs, freezes and the paragraph that states:

...

Few users realize the second issue is a bug. As described in KB958685, it affects all versions of Vista, Windows Server 2008, and Windows 7. If the user puts the notebook to sleep while its lid is still open and then afterwards closes the lid while the computer is still asleep, Windows will only display a blank screen and a mouse pointer upon wake. This continues until a key is pressed or the mouse is clicked. You can wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix (SP1 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, SP2 on Vista) or you can click this: Hotfix Request.

Hope this helps.

Try updating your video driver and see if that helps.
Turn off screen saver if you use it.

Since my upgrade to Windows 8 Pro from Windows 7, I can't access either the sleep or hibernate feature of my laptop. Whenever I try to go to 'sleep' or 'hibernate', the laptop shuts down after which I have to start it all over again. I did not face this problem with Windows 8 Consumer Review.

Anyone aware with the solution, please help.

I'm wondering if the Sleep mode issue has been resolved for the T540p/W540 series Thinkpads in Windows 8.1 I'd really like to just be able to close my laptop instead of having to turn it on or off. Albeit, the SSD boot times are incredibly fast, it'd still be nice to be able to close my lid and put my computer to sleep sometimes. Also, if there arent any resolutions, are there any work arounds? Thanks! -KB22

I updated Windows 10, and so far, am unimpressed, the biggest problem is that if my computer sleeps it will not wake up, the only way to deal with this is to do a hard restart. Can I go back to Windows 8, which worked great? is there a proper fix?

No matter what I tried, I can't get my computer to stay in sleep mode. I have disabled what devices wake my computer, but oddly, its like it dose not save the option.

I want to have my keyboard only awake my computer from sleep mode, however, I have uncheck the option to allow my mouse to wake the device but nothing seems to work.

What can I do?

Answer:Windows 7 won't stay in sleep mode.

Check the CMOS/BIOS Setup to see if there is anything in there such as "Wake on LAN" etc., that also will need to be disabled.

Sometimes it wakes up at about 3am and does secret stuff while you're sleeping.

OK, I thought it was just me, but since the AU when I put my machine in 'Sleep', and then later try to revive it, it doesn't come out of sleep and I have to do a hard shut-off, from which it doesn't always completely boot-up, but occasionally hangs, so that I have to do the 'F9' Restore to get it to actually boot into Windows . . .
As a temporary fix I am just not using 'Sleep' for right now . . .

Recently installed a secondary SATA internal hard drive . Only problem is that whenever the computer is left and goes into sleep mode then come back and re-activate the secondary hdd is no longer visible in windows under computer. typing d:\ into the navigation bar doesn't find it either. It always re-appears and works absolutely fine after re-booting windows.

My machine is a fairly new dell inspiron running windows 7 64-bit.

Have currently disabled sleep mode to stop from happening but would like to enable it again to save electricity. Please does anyone have any ideas as I haven't got a clue why this is happening.

Answer:Hdd keeps disappearing from Windows after sleep mode.

open computer management (right click computer, click manage)

open event viewer (or whatever its called now)

view system logs, look for errors

you may need to recreate the issue to have a newer error log entry created. this makes it easier to find.

A couple of weeks ago I turned off having Windows to automatically install updates. I did that because there was an update that would not install. Every time I restarted my computer after a few minutes I would get a notice to shut down. I think it was an update about my graphics card.
So For a couple of days my computer has shut itself down while in sleep mode. It evidently takes quite a while for this to happen because often I put it to sleep during the day and it doesn't happen then. My setting is to never put the computer to sleep but to turn off the display in 30 minutes. It's been that way for years with no problem until now. I would appreciate any help and thank you.

Hello dear friends,

There is a weird sound issue:
When I put my Pc on sleep mode and after wake-up the sound is gone and videos are lagging (1frame per 2 seconds). In device manager, it says all audio drivers are working properly, only restarting the PC fix the problem.

But I definitely need to use Sleep mode and that sound issue is really annoying.

Special thanks to helpers.

Hello Martin,

Have you tried to update the drivers for your Integrated Realtek Sound device?

I would have help you find them, but I do not see a manufacturer listed in your specs.

I have a weird sleep issue that just started, I've built a new PC, Win7x64 and just noticed this happening. When I put the computer to sleep manually, the machine looks like it goes to sleep, but the fans keep running and it 'sounds on'. If I wake the PC,
then put it right back to sleep, it goes into deep sleep and the fans go off. Nothing I can see is keeping it awake, I have a i5-2500k, Asus P68 deluxe mobo, and it seems to be a repeatable issue. If the PC wakes up by itself to do something, then goes back
to sleep on its own (times out) it goes into deep sleep. It's only when I manually do it that it has the issue. Anyone ever seen this? Thanks!

Answer:Windows 7 Sleep mode not turning off fan

I think it does have something to do with the ASUS AI software, although I have it set for maximum power savings...their tools are, well, badly designed and very difficult to navigate. Have been tinkering in here to see if I can get it to stop.
Also, I have the machine connected to a Windows Home Server 2011, this may also be the cause, the Launchpad app seems to like to hold open connections. Am still fiddling with each app, have stripped out most of what is always running to see what may
be causing this.Curt Kessler Franklin Loan Center

I am running Windows 10 (64-bit) on a HP Envy - 750-514.

I put my computer in Sleep Mode any time that I finished with it. * Last nite in the middle of the nite, I heard my computer power up on its own.* When I checked on it, the power lite was on "on" and it was running.* I turned on the monitor to see what it was running but only got a blank screen saying no computer was connected.* In less than a minute from when I heard it power up, it went back into sleep mode with the power lite flashing. * I know it was in sleep mode before I heard it power up because I came by the computer room a few hours earlier and the power lite was flashing in the dark room.
*
Is this normal when a computer is in sleep mode and what was it doing?

I upgraded my CQ5320F from Windows 7 to Windows 10 earlier this year and it appears that it no longer shows Sleep Mode as one of the Power options like it did with Win 7. The Power menu shows Shut Down and Restart as being the only options available now with Win 10. Is there a fix for this issue? I'm on Windows 10 Version 1607.

Many times when trying to put the computer to sleep, it either does not sleep or it will sleep but when I re-open the lid all lights and power comes on but the screen does not. This forces me to shut down the machine by removing the battery, thereby losing my work.

Any help is appreciated!
