How do I skip an update on windows insider for phone?

Question: How do I skip an update on windows insider for phone?

I want to download the latest build for Windows Phone 10 through the Insider program. But, my phone says that it has already downloaded build 10166. I need to skip that update and update directly to the latest build. Can I reset the update cache somehow?

Preferred Solution: How do I skip an update on windows insider for phone?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello Windows Insiders!

Today we are releasing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 16353 for PC to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring who have opted in to Skip Ahead only. As we mentioned in last week, Insiders who joined Skip Ahead will continue to receive builds from the RS_PRERELEASE branch which has transitioned to RS4 which is the release that will come after the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (RS3). Insiders will notice that the build numbers have jumped ahead to 1635x. Previously, we jumped ahead with build numbers at the beginning of development for RS3. Because we are just beginning development for RS4, Insiders shouldn?t expect to see a lot of big changes or new features just yet. Our focus remains getting the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update ready for release!

More on Skip Ahead
We have had some Insiders ask us some questions about Skip Ahead and to clarify what it is. Back in July, we announced Windows Insiders in the Fast ring could opt-in and ?skip ahead? to builds that would be part of the next feature update for Windows 10. There was a limit on how many Insiders in the Fast ring we would allow to skip ahead and that limit had been reached several weeks ago. Insiders can no longer opt-in their PCs to Skip Ahead.

Up until last week, we had been releasing identical builds to Insiders who didn?t opt in to Skip Ahead and to those who did. As of today, the builds are no longer the same as mentioned above.

The following graphic breaks down the essentials of... Read more

Insiders will notice that the build numbers have jumped ahead again but this time to 17xxx. This is what we do normally at the beginning of development of a new feature update for Windows 10.

Also ? you may notice that the Windows Insider Preview branding has disappeared from the build (shown via the desktop watermark at the lower right hand corner). This should be back with the next build.

Fluent Design: As we progress into the next feature update, you?ll begin to see more and more elements of Fluent Design light up. We love the enthusiasm we?ve seen for Fluent Design, and with today?s build you?ll notice that Reveal is now visible on Start in All apps.

I rolled my Lumia 920 back to 8.1 in hope of installing fresh W10 but when I installed insider app and chose insider fast nothing happens. My phone just upgrade to denim and stopped there. It wasn't like this before because back then it would download the update and install W10 by itself.
I tried soft reset, hard reset, reinstalling insider app, choosing insider fast/slow/RP but nothing works.
If anyone can guide me to a solution please help me!

Answer:NEED HELP; roll back to 8.1 but the phone won't update to W10 under insider program

Switch to the Release ring. That should get you onto the 10586.164 build, eventually. Both the Fast and Slow rings are now Redstone-focused so the 920 won't receive updates on them since it's not supported for upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile, officially.
Barring that, you will need to edit the registry which is a harder/more involved path to upgrade to W10M.

Hello =)
I have a pretty strange question. I've seen that when setting up a Windows Phone mobile for the first time, we can create a new Microsoft Account. During the process, we also need to enter an "alternative" email address. I was wondering if we could skip that ? Or if it is mandatory to put one to create the new account ?
Thank you ! =)

Answer:Windows Phone create Microsoft Account (8 or 10) Can I skip it?

You would need a backup address for example for security reasons in case you lock yourself out or strange behaviour on the account

So I recently enrolled my Lumia 620 for the Windows Insider Program and chose to get the Builds on Fast Ring. It had been lying around and it was still on Windows Phone 8.0. Before I enrolled my device, I did a few updates. First one was an update to WP8, then it updated to WP8.1, then WP8.1 GDR1. After enrolling my device, I successfully downloaded the Build. When the update started installing, the first time the progression bar beneath the two gears moved forward a bit. Then my phone shut off for no reason, it even had sufficient battery. After that the phone keeps shutting off after ~30 seconds. It's not moving beyond the two gears. Any help at all would be appreciated.

A Windows Phone app from Microsoft called Phone Insider has been discovered today. The app could possibly signal that the company is preparing to launch its rumored preview version of Windows 10 for smartphones.

The short description of the app simply says: "The Phone Insider application provides registered Windows Insiders the ability to receive pre-release OS updates on their phone, directly from Microsoft. I use a Compaq Presario CQ43 Laptop, bought in mid-2012, and it's served be very well for years now, using Windows 7. (64 bit).
Yesterday I updated to Windows 10, and almost immediately afterwards, anything I listened to - whether Netflix videos, youtube videos, downloaded audio in iTunes and videos in VLC have frequent, short buzzes and skips.
I know it's not a buffering or internet issue, ad it still happens offline and with downloaded files.
I googled for help and found plenty of advice about drivers and updating RealTek HD audio or Intel HD graphics drivers, or restoring earlier versions, and after several updates/restoring and playing around in Device Manager (after working out what drivers and device manager was - I am not much of a techie!), updating everything the computer told me to, and uninstalling what was unnecessary, THERE IS STILL BUZZING!
This is driving me mad, as I'm a student and about half of my laptop use is dedicated to listening to downloaded lectures, or procrastinating with Netflix, and I think the buzzing will slowly make me want to break something.
Please help!!

Answer:Why does the audio buzz and skip after the Windows 10 update?

How has this not been answered yet? I've reinstalled drivers and exhausted the microsoft troubleshooting recommendations. It seems like a Windows 10 problem. This is driving me insane.

long story short, i done goofed and denied all permissions on wmpshare.exe with my antivirus, and any updates that try to modify said file are obviously met with failure. i've just ignored updates that do this for the most part (since they were WMP-specific patches, and i don't use WMP anymore anyway), but now these recent "monthly rollup" updates are failing, all because of wmpshare.exe having no permissions.

after running around in circles in Google, other than a clean install (which i think is overkill for me personally), the only other option i know of is a restore point, and my little mistake was years ago, so that's not really an option for me.

is there any way i can get Windows Update to continue updating in spite of an erroneous file? i'd like it to skip over wmpshare.exe if possible.

You will be able to upgrade to 10 officially regardless, assuming no carrier interference.
If you are already on the 10 Preview, use the Windows Phone REcovery Tool to downgrade.
If you are on 8.1 and don't want Insider updates, I'm not sure, you may want to uninstall Insider.

Somehow the Windows 10 Anniversary Update build didn't work out for me on an older machine.
(my GPU was no longer detected)
So I was more than happy to use the windows roll back feature to a previous build.
Still, soon after rolling back, windows started the update once again and I would be ending in an unfortunate endless loop.
(Side note :HappyAndyK wrote somewhere else that the rollback feature to a previous build only works for about 10-30 days,so you might have to reinstall the 1511 build) To stop Windows 10 from trying to update my 1511 edition to the Anniversary build, I finally found a small but effective reg tweak.
Although originally meant for skipping preview builds, it seems to work for the regular builds too.
(So far so good)

Answer:Some help regarding wp 8.1 update 2 (via windows insider app)

I believe you will have to hard reset the device since you aren't supposed to stay on Update 2. It was supposed to stay there for a little bit, then upgrade to 10 automatically. Erase the device to "forget" that whole plan.
However, there may or may not be a less destructive solution since while I know when the device is asking to install it's too late, but I don't know about asking to download.

Answer:Windows insider vs update advisor

Update adviser is to let you know whether or not your phone is compatible and for when MS/Carrier have the official WM10 update ready for your phone. Windows Insider is so you can preview pre release builds of WM10 on your device. Which ring did you choose? I updated my wife's 640 to the insider release preview ring for the .242 update(which will be more stable than the slow or fast rings) then removed her from the insider program so she'll get the next production release. I hope this makes sense, let me know if you need me to clarify anything.

However, I cannot seem to find where to update my MS account password on my phone. If you're not particular about getting a microsoft branded phone, you could purchase one assuming it is available in your region
You could also test with insider after buying 640xl. But you'll have to do upgrade process carefully. Check the forums for guidelines

Hi everyone,
Before heading off for the holidays I wanted to give a little bit of an update on how things are shaping up for Windows 10, especially since we don?t have a build for you this month. I know that some of you are disappointed that we didn?t release another build (though we know some of them escaped?.I?m looking at you 9888 & 9901?)* but now that we?ve announced our event on January 21st I can finally explain why we didn?t. We?ve been very hard at work putting together a great build for you that includes a bunch of new features and improvements. As all of those payloads came in we needed to stabilize code, fix any integration issues, and ensure all of the new UX is polished. We?re really focused on making the next build something that we hope you?ll think is awesome. In fact, just so that we have a *daily* reminder to ourselves that we want this build to be great, we even named our build branch FBL_AWESOME. Yeah, it?s a bit corny, but trust me that every Dev that checks in their code and sees that branch name gets an immediate reminder of our goal. We?re super excited to show you what we?ve been up to! Look for a follow-up blog post from us on where to tune-in to the live webcast on January 21st.

This Windows Insider thing seems to be gaining momentum

We have over 1.5 million registered Windows Insiders today which is amazing, and about 450k of you are what we consider ?highly active?. In other words, you?re re... Read more

I like many others have been having a problem getting my Windows Update set up to get insider builds. Even though I had signed in using my Microsoft account, I get getting the "Fix me" button which gave me a message about stopping insider builds. I think I identified the problem. I did a clean install of 10162 on a spare drive as a stand alone system. Update told me I was all set to get insider builds. Then I reattached my drive with Windows 8.1 and set it up for dual boot. As soon as I did this I got the infamous "Fix me" button. I then disconnected the Windows 8.1 drive and update told me I was once again all set to get insider builds. Strange - when Update sees another windows install on my system, it disables insider builds.

Answer:Problem with getting Insider Builds thru Windows Update

Yup that is unfortunately what happens if you dual boot with another version of Windows.
I get exactly the same scenario dual booting Windows 10 and 7.
If I want to update Win 10 I have to disconnect my Win 7 drive then all goes well until I reconnect my Win 7 drive and boot up, then follows a sequence of CHKDSK.
All part of the fun

the only way to update my lumia 535 to windows10 ..is to use windows insider??

Answer:The only way to update my Lumia 535 to Windows10 .is to use Windows Insider?

Yes.The Windows mobile 10 are not released yet,and if you want w10 the only way until now is via insiders.I'm an owner of Lumia 640 xl dual sim,and I dont know how 535 works but I tell you to download the w10.They are so good and smooth from the last 2-3 updates. In the app you can choose between slow-fast.And if you don't want to get fast and with buggs updates choose slow.
IF you wanna to try the last update just use fast.

I keep getting pop ups saying my copy of windows is about to expire. "12/31/2016 4:29:44 PM"
I have: Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview Evaluation copy. Build 14295.rs1_release 160318-1628
Every time I try and use Windows Update, I keep having the following errors...
0x80240fff

No mater what I do I can not get the updates to install, in fact windows wont even let me go back to an earlier build.
Really don't want to lose all my settings, apps games, I've backed up what I can but really dreading all the customization and settings I had to tweak.

Anyway to stop the expiration? fix the updates so it works or download and install offline so i can keep all my settings and stuff?

Also tried WindowsUpdateDiagnostic and wushowhide. both didn't do anything for me. tried clearing the "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution" and that didn't work.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Answer:Windows 10 insider build update stuck on 80%

The Insider Previews aren't stable releases they are test builds... you shouldn't use them on a primary machine. If you need to recover files follow this guide:
http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/data-recovery-using-fedora/
You can download Windows 10 and clean install:
http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/download-windows-10-oem-and-retail-iso/
If you want to remain on the Insider Preview. Use the Insider Preview .iso:

Try restarting your phone (hold power and volume down together for about 10 seconds until the phone vibrates) then try the store again. I can tell you that the store is undergoing some changes and is a work in progress as they move things over to the new unified store. Be patient.

Hello, I've been trying for hours to get my HTC One M8 to run the Windows 10 preview, but I'm having some issues.
- As most people have suggested, I've hard reset my phone, not used a backup, then installed the insider preview and signed up for fast ring (I hear the newest build is great).
- Once I've done this and the phone has restarted and everything, I go to check for updates and.... nothing. Says my device is up to date.
- Tried resetting (twice), using the WP recovery tool, and still no updates come around.
Any suggestions? Could this have anything to do with my carrier (Verizon)? Am I out of luck? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Upgrading One M8 for Windows from 8.1 Update 2 to W10M Insider Preview?

I have an HTC One M8 running 10586.218 that my son is using (left IOS and likes W10M) and it runs very good on that phone.
You will not get an upgrade using the fast ring on the HTC, that is just for "supported" devices. You can get the very good 10586.218 release using "Insider Release" not "slow" or "fast" though. Not sure if "production" ring will get you anything either.

About a month ago, I upgraded to Windows 8.1 after a factory reset.

At the moment, I have 2 Important Windows Updates pending:

June 2014 update rollout (49.7MB)
http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/2962409

August 2014 update rollout (180.8MB)
http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/2975719

Should I install both, or can I skip the June update for the August update? Is the current August update stable and won't kill Windows again?

Answer:Is June Update required, or skip to August Update?

Huracan, if I remember correctly, there was something wrong with one of the individual updates (..sorry as I'm not certain which) but @exterminator20 had warned of the problem which required removal.
PS I think your new avatar looks cool!

Update: @Huracan , numerous members have related having had difficulty updating Windows 8.1, though viktik and Juhful offer up hopeful & optimistic feedback. As for myself, after coming to Malware Tips, I've experience less (and now zero) Blue Screens of Death which I'd blamed upon the combination of problematic Windows updates & additionally a (then) incompatibility with Bitdefener Free. My gut feeling is now that some Windows 8 systems, as I'd read from a past post by Umbra Polaris, were installed upon lap tops which were designed specifically for Windows 7. I believe that is why I'd initially experienced so much trouble, albeit far less now as our Windows 7 continues to be the faster, more trouble free system, and also the preferred lap top computer our family members all vie for first! In other words, my wife (The Queen) lays claim most often upon the system that is not Windows 8.1 which interprets as The King must use Windows 8.1 (regardless of affairs of state) it is so decreed!!

My rule(s) of thumb:

Wait 1 to 2 weeks for any initial difficulties to have had a chance to clear, chances are far greater you'll have no problems. (@Huracan , you fall under (this) my imaginary umbrella time frame.) ..... Read more

So how can I get out of the preview program since I can't update it further more?

Hi, the easiest option would be to reset your phone with the Windows Device Recovery Tool.
Then upgrade to Win 10 mobile with the Upgrade Advisor App.

Hello all,

Real quick, I'm having an issue where I try to update from Build 15031.rs2_release.170204-1546 to the next rs2_release available via Windows Update. The update downloads, does the pre-install, boots me into the traditional blue screen of updating, finishes, then reboots me to get back into the OS. At this juncture, I am at a blue flag and white dot circle, which has stopped spinning (it spins for approx .75 seconds) and halts, machine stays in this state ad infinitum. I can reboot it, at which point it goes back to the same state. If i shut down, then power back up instead (cold boot), the machine reverts the upgrade and goes back to the previous build and everything is honkey dorey.

Thing 1) I do not have a wireless USB mouse/dongle. Please don't recommend I remove it as one does not exist.
Thing 2) I have removed two possible culprits (Creative SoundBlaster Z card, Asus Wireless-N card). No change.
Thing 3) I have unplugged all video (except 1 Display Port), all USB connections, and the Ethernet cable. No change.
Thing 4) I even went so far as to disconnect my NZXT water cooler USB connector from the motherboard header and reboot. No change.

Most posts I see, it's a "Oh, your wireless usb mouse is causing issues" or, "the PC is having issues discovering USB devices during it's boot process, disconnect them". Well, I've done it, and it's still busted. This has happened with /every/ developer preview update since Win 10 was release. The first... Read more

The same thing happened on my Lumia 625.
You need to let it charge for a few hours.

It should then power back on and carry on with the install (mine did).
