Windows 8.1 drains my battery exactly four times faster than Win 8.0. on a Nokia 520 Why?

Question: Windows 8.1 drains my battery exactly four times faster than Win 8.0. on a Nokia 520 Why?

I have bought a new battery, exactly the same results. I am going back to a good old Nokia mobile phone and getting a small tablet, probably Apple.

Preferred Solution: Windows 8.1 drains my battery exactly four times faster than Win 8.0. on a Nokia 520 Why?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Windows 8.1 drains my battery exactly four times faster than Win 8.0. on a Nokia 520 Why?

The question, which reads "Windows 8.1 drains my battery exactly four times faster than Win 8.0. on a Nokia 520 Why?" may need some clarification:
Are you comparing Windows Phone 8.1 against Windows Phone 8.0 using the same device (Lumia 520)?
Aside from the new OS version, what else is different from the Windows Phone 8.0 and the Windows Phone 8.1 you're referring to? Particulars include: apps installed, signal quality, duration of use, phone settings, charger type and input, etc.
You would need a Windows Central account to respond to this thread. A four-fold increase in battery drain is suspiciously huge, too large to be immediately blamed on the difference in OS versions. Everything else has to be maintained constant (the particulars mentioned above) in comparing the two OS versions before we can conclude that it is indeed the OS version at fault.

i am having a nokia lumia 620 since 1 year , i was having developer preview it was running quite good but instantaneously it started to heat up like hell and started causing battery drain . but later i did a software recovery by nokia software recovery tool and got the official 8.1 . even after that it getting hot and causes battery drain . plz help me its out of warranty i even went to 2 nokia care but both of told me different reasons for heating up off the phone .... what should i do

Answer:nokia lumia 620 getting hot as burning pan and battery drains a lot

Use a dark theme, switch off apps that run in background, switch off glance if not required! Turn on location only when you need it! Disable the app sounds, vibration etc from notification centre! Keeping data connection on always drains a lot of battery, so switch it on only when required! Double tap to wake phone also drains a lot battery, use power key instead! Turn off the live tile option for the apps that you don't use much! Lower the lock screen timeout, lower the brightness! Turn off the vibration of Windows keys! Try these, if it could help

So I updated my nokia Lumia 525 to the latest software update (WP 8.0). Before update the phone was very good condition, it did not heat up ad battery used to last more than a day. After the update phone gets very hot and battery drains within 4 hours. I have only installed few apps Whatsapp, Viber, skype, weather and Shazam. I close all background runnings apps, and it gives me this issue. First I thought it was email because it kept syncing. I stop email syncing and it is having the same issue. I bought this phone brand new 2 weeks ago. Can anyone from microsoft please check this bug?
P.S. I have deactivated bluetooth, NFC everything else. The phone is used by my mother so she uses only phone calls, whatsapp and Viber. Nothing else.
Thank You.

Answer:Nokia Lumia 525 Heat Up and battery drains too fast

Try a hard reset or use nokia software recovery tool.

But in a spec comparison the standby and talk time of a 1520 is higher. (but in these cases the display is not used).
To choose between the 1320 and 535 do a google search "Lumia 535 vs 1320" and check what you want and how much you want to spend.

I have an X301  2777 CTO with the factory larger battery.  SSD   Running Windows 7.  All Windows patches up to date.  All BIOS and drivers up to date.  Reinstalled Power Management.  When I put the laptop into hibernate it drains the battery at a rate of about 20% per day.  The machine behavior is that of Hibernate and not Sleep.  I have an open support case but w/o a resolution as yet. Any ideas?

Answer:Hibernate drains battery 20% per day - X301 Windows 7

I'm having the same problem and it's infuriating. I've replaced the battery and it is still draining. For example, I'd put the X301 into hibernate at 95% battery; when I turn it on a day or two later, it'd be at 25%. There's a radio switch behind the laptop and I've taken to turning it off off before hibernating; and it still draining. It is clearly a hardware issue. The other battery I placed into an older version of X301; and it seem to last forever; so it is a problem only the X301 that has an activated Verizon WAN. I'm at my wits end with this, if any has faced a similar situation and have resolved it, I'd love to hear about it.

I have just purchased the above and I find that it does not fully shutdown with Windows shutdown and if power cable is removed, the battery eventually drains and goes flat. Also if lid is closed and laptop enters sleep mode, and left with lid closed for a few hours (with power connected), on opening the lid, I cannot get PC to resume from sleep mode and have to eventually do a 5 second press hard shutdown. The laptop is as it came, standard, with no other devices connected. It is running an Intel I5-2520M processor. It is not reporting any errors.regardsW

My Lumia 950 will not charge or be recognized by the pc until I restart. I have done a Hard Reset (turn device off and on with volume down, followed by volume up, down, power, volume down again) and Windows Device Recovery. My last attempt restoring my Lumia 950 was installing the latest Release Preview of the insider program. I was not installing any insider updates before.
The battery drain is quite consistent. If everything is turned off (wifi, bluetooth, glance, cellular data, no apps open in background) it almost uses the same amount as using the device, roughly 10% drain per hour.
Any advise what to do?

it is recommended to start afresh after a hard reset , to prevent any bugs. Your battery drain could be because of background syncing of one drive. Photos, mails ,appdata are by default set to sync and upload to one drive to and fro. so could be a reason behind a rapid drain, also i would request you to monitor the behavior for a few days as these devices take a while to sync and set up after a hard reset and consume a lot of battery at first because of background tasks setting up the phone which is not visible to us.

Hi all,
I've owned my Lumia 920 for 3 years now, purchased brand new and always looked after it. I've had no issues until yesterday, except for about 2 months ago the side-camera button stopped working to load the camera app and take photos (app tile and on-screen capture button now).
The night before last, I put my phone on charge whilst I went to sleep and when I woke up in the morning I found that the battery was showing as being in saver mode. I thought the lead had come loose so I let it charge again and confirmed it had the charge icon. When I took out the lead 30 mins later it had even less charge.
I thought the phone might just be going screwy so I did a soft reset (held volume down and power until the screen went off, and then the phone vibrated and reset). When the phone came back to life, it had 100% power.
Within 3 hours I was down to about 50% when it had just been sat on the desk, idle, next to me. I turned the phone off and on again, and the battery life was back up to about 98%.
This continued through the entire day; three times it entered battery saver, but when I reset the phone the battery life jumped back up to it's "real" value but then resumed falsely draining fast.
I thought I'd just let the phone run out of juice but I think it hangs at "5%" (false) battery and won't actually turn itself off. It was at 5% when I went to bed last night, and 8 hours later it was still at 5%. I reset it and it went back to 41% (having not been charged in just over 24 hour... Read more

Any idea why I can boot Win7 64 and Vista 64 in 15-20 seconds when running them via Virtual Box (on Vista 64)? (VB is a free OS emulation app. You can run your OS's in their own little windows) Vista normally takes me 1:45 (much slower than when it was a fresh install), and Win7 is also up there around a minute, at least (can't remember the exact time). My hard drives are pretty fast (all roughly the same), but, when booting these OS's via Virtual Box, the boot times are suddenly almost instantaneous.

Is this because Windows normally does a lot of waiting around for hardware, or something, which isn't there when you're emulating?

Answer:Windows Boot Times FASTER When Emulated?

I doubt it does a lot of waiting, because for instance my Win 7 x64 machine boots in about 20 seconds from a 150GB Raptor. I'm guessing you installed something(s) which slowed down the physical installs that you didn't install in the virtual machines, maybe a bad driver too since the drivers are not going to be the same.

Hi everyone! Since some weeks, I'm facing a big problem with my Lumia 1520. My battery drains too quickly and when I plugged it to charge, it charged to 100% in less than 5 mins. When I take photos also with Lumia Camera, my phone reboots and the battery gets down. I already reset the phone and also use the recovery tools to flash it, but the problem is the same. Somebody can tell me if it's a battery problem or firmware?
Many Thanks

Hello. I have a 3yr old Toshiba Satellite laptop that I use every day, on avg. 8 hrs per day for school. The battery used to last about 2.5 hours without needing charging. In the past couple weeks, it only seems to last about an hour before needing to be charged.

Even more troublesome is its action when the charge is gone. I have set the power settings to pop up a notification message at 22% battery level and take no action, then at 10% battery level, pop up another message THEN go in to hibernate. However, last week it would give me only about 20 seconds' notice of a critical battery level, then it would hibernate. It wouldn't give me any notice before the critical level.

Now, it has taken to just hibernating, with no warning notice whatsoever. I could keep it plugged in all the time, but my concern is there's something more at issue that will get worse over time. I don't need any crashes at finals time.

Any suggestions? Could the battery need replacing? Thanks.

Answer:Battery drains in 1hr; No low battery warning before hibernate

Li Ions really start to lose capacity at 2 years. By 3 years, they can easily be at 50% of their original capacity.

I'd go for a new battery.

My gripe is that my T61 drains the Ultrabay battery first and drains it to ZERO before going to the main battery.  It substantially reduces the lifespan of the Ultrabay battery.  It's really a shame that Lenovo cannot/will not provide a decent BIOS or driver to allow the user to select how the batteries are used.  Why is it so difficult to provide this capability?

Answer:Ultrabay Battery is used first and drains to ZERO

Agree 100%. When I'm out and about I have two 7-cell standard batteries and an Ultrabay Advance battery. I want the standard battery to drain 1st, so that I can swap it out when it has run down and the T61 switched over t the (standby) Ultrabay battery. Surely the primary battery should be drained first followed by any accessory battery? What 'branos' designed the power schema in the BIOS to operate this way? Or as you say, why can't there be a section in PowerManager tha allows you to customise the discharge order? The way I HAVE to work is to ensure that the Ultrabay battery is out of the machine when running on my 1st primary battery, and when that warns me it's going to run flat, I then have to install the Ultrabay battery, wait for it to switch, and then swap out the primary battery for the 2nd charged one. Come on Lenovo, please fix this idiotic situation. Write and issue a BIOS update and PowerManager update. I mean, in the year that I have owned this T61, there must have been 4+ BIOS updates and perhaps the same number of PowerManager updates for trivial fixes.....

Two years ago I bought a Thinkpad R60 (model 9461-DXG). Last year I decided to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows Vista 64 bit. Since then my battery time has severely decreased, namely:- High overall power usage (only about 80 instead of 170 minutes of work time on battery)- High power usage in standby (+/- 2% per hour)I didn't have these problems when Windows XP was installed. The battery is still oke (software indicates 62%, so that should be roughly enough for 110 minutes instead of 80. The original time was about 170 minutes. I borrowed a good battery, but the battery time didn?t go up by much, and certainly nowhere near where it should be.I've installed all drivers, the windows power features are enabled, so are the Lenovo power manager settings. I'm using my laptop exactly like before and there is no unusually high processor usage. The only thing I can think of is that I noticed that the Ati Powerplay settings aren?t available. I don?t know if they were in Windows XP, but they are not in the newest drivers from the Lenovo site.Regarding the high power usage during standby, the battery usage in Windows XP was almost non-noticable, but now it drains a lot of power overnight. And there aren't any Windows services enabled that wake up the pc.Also I couldn?t find the solution in the Lenovo Windows Vista support section. So my question is: Is there anything I can do about it and let it work in Windows Vista? Battery lasts up to 26hrs if I'm lucky, when on WP 8 it was up to 50 -52 hrs.
Common activites:
Wifi connected all day.
Opening Facebook, Twitter, Messenger very often.
Reading articles in WPCentral App.
Web browsing.
Open MixRadio like once a day for 15 - 20 minutes.
Watch MetroTube videos at 360p

Answer:WP 8.1 drains battery soo fast...

I consider 26 hour battery life excellent on a smartphone.
I've never expected to get more than 18 hours on a single charge since I've been using smartphones. I always charge my devices every night overnight when I go to sleep. One cannot overcharge Lithium ion batteries, and Lithium ion batteries do best when topped off regularly and not allowed to drain too low repeatedly.

Just to make sure, if you are shutting down completely you are following this method and holding the shift key down when doing so?

There should be "some" discharge while powered off, nothing really significant, but there should be some.

Hello all, I have a laptop that was brought to me with a setting in the bios "HDD Password is:  Frozen".  (This user has NEVER set any bios passwords at all).  It will not boot to Windows at all but it does recognize the HDD in the Bios.  After reading about it for a bit, I tried removing the hdd while in the bios to reset it, but it didn't work.  As a last resort, I ran a windows startup repair.  It reported that it found no issues but upon reboot, Windows loaded fine and the HDD password was set to "Clear" The next day, the owner of the laptop called and said it was doing the same thing.  This time though, he reported that with both times, he had accidentally fallen asleep without the laptop plugged into the wall.  So the battery drains and when you plug it back in and boot, the HDD Password is "Frozen".  Running another Windows Starup repair, reported no issues found, but was able to boot right up after that. I have checked, and the bios is at the most recent version. Any help would be appreciated. Dan

Hi, I've been having some trouble with my HP Spectre x360 battery draining while powered off (completely off, not just sleep mode or hibernate), but I couldn't find much online about it. It's been happening for a while, but I only recently paid attention enough to realize that almost 10% of the battery drains in about 12 hours while off. I've tried running the battery component test on the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI, and that passed, saying the battery doesn't need to be calibrated. I know batteries usually drain while the pc/phone is powered off, but from what I've found it shouldn't be this much. Thanks for taking the time to read and respond.

Hey Im the almost happy owner of and Y700-17ISK, but Im having issues with the battery. If im watching a movie, or playing a game, meaning the laptop is on for ~2h or so with heavy usage, charger is plugged in. At some point it will shutdown unexpected, I can then power it right back up and now it will run on the AC adaptor. It does remember where i was in the game or movie, so its not a complete shutdown. This time however, Im sitting at a battery on 0% power, and it says not charging. Uninstalling the battery drivers from hardware management, have not helped. So im stuck with 2 problems: - Laptop drains battery to 0%, then shuts off -> turn it on, and it runs on battery.- My battery is now at 0% and wont charge. What do I do?

Answer:Y700 ISK drains battery, then shuts off.

Just a follow up. I tried using the AC adaptor of my friends laptop Lenovo Y70 Touch. It now goes straight to charging no issues. My laptops AC adapator however wont work on his Y70, it doesnt even recognize it as plugged in. This got me wondering....I bought a demo laptop from the store showroom, at a great price though! But it came without the box, only laptop + charger. It came with a 3.25A adaptor, his Y70 came with a 6.75A adaptor.Im sitting here thinking, how can you run an i7 + 960M and charge a battery on ~65W ?

I have a 10 month old X230 with a 6 cell 44+ battery. I am finding that it seems to drain quite quickly - more so than when it was new. I am getting about 2.5 hours of use - and am also noticing that when in sleep mode, it seems to drain quite a bit. Overnight last night it went from a full charge - to 91% just while on sleep - nothing was used or running. I am running Win 7 Home Premium, have a USB (not Bluetooth) mouse attached that I turn off before sleep, screen brightness on around 8. Any suggestions on what to check or change woud be appreciated. Thanks!LH

I use my X41 as my kitchen computer and typically put it to sleep when I'm done with breakfast. In most case the battery will have at least 50% or more battery life left. If I don't reattach the machine to the AC adapter, I will often return to the machine a few days later with a completely dead battery. The battery does take a charge and will run for a while on a battery once charged. The issue seems completely tied to standby. Power Manger says the battery is "good," and I've recently done the "battery maintenance" process, to no avail. I'm using the "power source optimized" power scheme. Cycle count on my battery is 97. Machine is out of warranty, so not sure what's smartest tact here.

Answer:x41 Battery Drains completely on standby

Standby will definitely drain your battery over a few days. I recommend hibernating instead. If you are out of warranty your machine is over a year old. My experience with my notebook batteries is that their capacity significantly degrades after 12-18 months. You have a low cycle count however so I would guess you should get a bit longer life.

I think I may have found a fix for Lenovo ThinkPads with a hibernation drain problem.  Two things, first disable Wake on Lan within the BIOS and lastly, disable the same options for each network adapter under Device Manager.  So far so good.

HiI have a Idea Y430 about 15 months old, all of a sudden the battery drains in less then 30 minutes, i have not changed or added any new software on this laptop, is the battery or gone bad or some thing else, how do i test the battery, or this laptop

Answer:Y430 Battery drains in less then 30 Minutes

Maybe "Re-calibrating" the battery will help. Check for that option in your version of Lenovo Energy Management. If the option is not there, this is the method I use: Boot the laptop with battery only, and enter BIOS setup. (Press F2 at Lenovo screen.) Just leave it sit. Let it run until it shuts down. Plug it in, and fully charge it. (Use the battery light as a guide.) Boot into Windows, and see if there is any improvement. If no improvement, battery may need replacement. They have a 1 yr. warranty.

Although I have my notebook plugged in, the battery drains down completely and shuts off. The battery then charges while it's off and I start over again with the same process. I have used the original power supply as well as a working universal power supply. Neither one charges the battery while the unit is on.  I tried finding the Windows 10 battery companion by typing battery in the search bar. It isn't there. I do not have airplane mode turned on. What could be wrong? The battery now seems to drain more rapidly than before.

I have a brand new Satellite Pro C50 -A-1HR laptop. (Had it one week only) with Windows 8.1 installed. The battery loses at least 30% charge overnight when completely closed down and seems to drain pretty fast when I'm using it too. Admittedly I've used it a lot, as trying to get to grips with 8.1 ( I only had Vista before, steep learning curve). Can anyone tell me if this battery behaviour is usual please?

I have to plug in the mains cable every time I use it, concerned that if I don't use laptop for a week or more, battery would be dead!

Can anyone help please? Thanks

then you do need a new battery.. I had that problem once And I fixed it by getting a new battery. also you can ask the warrenty so maybe they can replace your old battery with a new one :) good luck.

Hi, I noticed that my Helix's battery drains even when completely powered off ??I have the latest BIOS and all devices are set to NOT being able to wake the laptop/tablet ..... Can anyone help here ?Thanks,Stone

Answer:Helix: Battery drains even when powered off

Hi Stone,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that battery of your ThinkPad Helix drains even when it is turned off.

Normally, the battery will lose capacity when left in a system without the AC power attached because the system will draw a small amount of current that will deplete the capacity over time. Batteries will lose some charge over time due to self-discharge which is quite normal.

Check in event viewer if there is any unexpected shutdown that had happened. If the device is not properly shutdown, it may drain some battery. Check in device manager that all the drivers are up-to-date.

In order to isolate whether the battery had gone faulty or not, charge the battery fully. Take it out of the system. At the end of the day put it back and see if it has some decent charge left in it. If it doesn't the battery is faulty. If it does then your device is indeed sucking power from the battery while supposedly off. I would suggest you to contact Lenovo technical support for further assistance in that case.

Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I?m sure they will be a great help.

Best regards,
Mithun.

I've also applied that hotfix which was supposed to help, but no luck. When i run on battery I get 1:26...MASSIVE difference. I don't think its the battery as I put my brothers battery in and he gets 2:30 on his battery but when it was on my laptop it went to 1:57 Don't know what to do...I don't have an anti-virus EITHER because i was so mad on getting my battery life back up.

Answer:Battery life drains quickly!

Most likely your battery might not bre charging fully due to the A/C adaptor plug may be loose and or the connection on your board is loose (common problem with laptops). Another thought is that over a period of time laptop batteries get weaker due to their nature. It may be best to take your computer to the shop and let an expert technician look into this. Really doesn't cost an awful lot...If you are handy you may be able to check this out yourself but sometimes laptop cases are a little difficult to open (without damaging)...I know from experience (cracked my Sony Vaio case when trying to attempt fixing the very same issue)...

Is it normal for a Thinkpad T470 to drain battery after it has been shut down completely? I first observed this after not using the notebook for about a week. After switching it back on, the external battery had lost more than 10% charge, while the internal battery's value hadn't changed. Curiously, while using the notebook, this behavior is reversed, i.e. the internal battery is discharged first. Things I tried so far: Disabled Wake-on-LANDisabled USB chargeDisabled Thunderbolt deviceDisabled the fingerprint readerDisabled Fast BootDisabled all wake events and timersChanged power planPerformed a full shutdown via shutdown -sUpdated BIOS and Embedded Controller to latest version availableResetting Windows to factory defaults I also ejected the external battery and disabled the internal battery before shutting down to make sure that they don't discharge by themselves. However, no drain occurred under this condition. Effectively, none of these options have helped. The external battery still loses approximately 2% charge every 24 hours.

I purchased a Thinkpad E440 in February (i5 2.5 Gz w/8 GB, std 500 GB HD). I only use it a time or two each month when traveling for business so it can sit for a couple weeks unused between trips. I noticed that between uses the battery is being drawn down. At one point there was a two week period of no use and when I went to use it the battery was completely dead. I am making sure it is properly shutting down after each use. There was recently a BIOS update to 1.61 and I did that. I also turned off in BIOS the USB port power figuring that may be causing the drain. For the last two weeks I've been checking it every couple days and it is still dropping about 2% to 5% battery power every couple days. Anyone else having this sort of issue?  Kind of a pain but until there is a fix of some type, in the meantime I'll try to remember to take the battery out between uses.

Answer:E440: battery drains when powered off

Your computer is defective and needs to be replaced under warranty with a new one.  I had the same problem with an ideapad s415 touch-it drained 20% per day.  I sent it in for repair, they weren't able to fix it so they replaced it. They tried replacing the motherboard, battery and power adapter -no luck.  They even returned the software to factory condition and updated to latest bios.

Hello, I just changed the built-in msata ssd to a new one (Crucial CT128M4SSD3) and installed windows from an original disc, since the recovery solution won't work on any other than the built-in hdd. Now everything works fine except the battery. Hello!  I just  purchased my LENOVO ideapad 310, a month ago. During my observation on its battery since I got it, its discharging time takes atmost 1 hour and 45 mins while its charging time takes atmost 4 hours. Given the fact that I am not using any application or software, it's not even connected to internet, just leaving it open, it drains so easy. I know its battery is below average but given the fact that its charging time consumes more compare to discharging, i am beginning to wonder if its still normal.  Your answer will be deeply appreciated thank you!

Hello guys, I'm new on this forum and i hope I'll get the proper help for my problems. In May 2015 i bought a brand new Lenovo Y70 Touch laptop, first i had these problems: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSy1iJ2AcrU , that problem with the lines was on windows 8.1 and also on windows 10, when i upgraded on it. I still have windows 10 installed. But that problem didn't bother me so much, so i waited for like 3 months and then decided to take it to the lenovo official service support, after one month i got it back, with a brand new motherboard. They fixed the problem, the screen is now fine. When i got the laptop back i checked it and i noticed that my battery is somehow draining ultra fast. When it's fully chargerd (100&) goes to 90% in like 10 minutes, even if i dont have any programs turned on or sth going on in a background. Charging the battery from 0-100% takes a lot longer, than the battery unplugged. So i think to myself, it's probably just not the right drivers installed for the power management. I installed Energy Manager and Flight Mode Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit), Lenovo battery Gauge for windows 10 (64-bit) and Lenovo energy management driver for windows 10 (32-bit, 64-bit). Hello All, I have been having some trouble with my battery on my new laptop (which I got less than 6 months ago). It is an HP Envy 15t touchscreen, and the battery doesn't last for more than about 2 hours. I've tried some basic fixes, like decreasing brightness, but that hasn't really helped. I've also noticed that the fan runs pretty loudly for long periods of time (I just timed it, for example, and it was making loud noises for 15-20 minutes straight). Finally, recently the laptop will freeze for a couple of minutes (it will usually freeze when the fan starts running). Like I said, this is a relatively new laptop, and I don't use it all that much (maybe a couple hours of browsing a day, and a few hours of streaming over the course of a week) so I'm not sure why its having this problem. When I first got the laptop, I was getting about 6 hours without charge. Now, for example, it dropped from 100% to 84% in about a 20 minute span. Any help on the matter would be appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:Battery drains fast on new laptop

Measure, measure, measure. If the fan is speeding-up, it's because the motherboard has detected "excessive" temperatures, and has increased the fan-speed to try to cool the computer. What causes those temperatures?  Basically, the CPU is working "hard", and generating extra heat. Use the Windows "Task Manager" and/or "Process Monitor" to see which tasks are consuming the CPU.

It's not a bad battery because when the external battery is connected the internal battery does not drain. From fully charged (100%) and left overnight, by morning the charge is down to 40%. Hi.. Shut down the laptop, rather than hibernate it.If it drains after 24 hours, then the fault is a bad battery. If it does not drain after 24 hours, then it's not really hibernating. The computer is powering up for some reason. 90% of battery issues can be fixed by performing BIOS update. You may perform a BIOS update on the laptop and check for the issue. You can download the BIOS update form this laptop  Once it's downloaded, open that folder extract it and run the BIOS update file. Then restart the laptop. Note: Prior to starting this process, plug in the AC adapter to ensure the unit does not power off while updating the BIOS.  If my answer helped, click on KUDOS.

I have owned a Spectre x2 12 myself and then I purchased one for my wife. I also recommended this system to my uncle who bought one. I must say that I have been happy with the performance and build quality of these units. However, there is one glaring issue with them that HP seems to be totally ignoring and in my opinion it is a deal breaker. I have since sold mine and am looking to do the same with my wife's system. I have recommended to my Uncle that he should do the same thing. What is this one glaring problem? The system discharges the battery even when the system is completely turned off. We have tried all the recommended things on all the HP and 3rd party forums to fix the issue but nothing has worked. We have tried everything from turning off fast boot and USB charging in Bios, to updating the Bios and all the drivers, to making sure no WiFi dongles are connected to the device when turned off, and even separating the keyboard from the device when it is turned off. Nothing has solved the problem. On one forum for an HP spectre x360 there was a fix offered which allowed the user to update the M.2 hard drive bios which fixed the problem the same problem for those systems but no such fix is offered by HP for the Spectre x2 12. I suspect that this system along with many other HP systems are suffering from the same issue of the M.2 not completely shutting down when the device is turned off which allows it to slowly discharge the battery. My brand new X220i (type 4287-2QG) keeps losing battery power when turned off. Initially I thought that I just wasn?t turning it off properly and the battery was draining because of sleep or hibernation, but after some testing I am sure that it loses power even when turned off. I charged the battery to 100% and after two days there was only 85% which is definitely suspicious. I use preinstalled Windows 7 Pro 64bit with default power settings (always on USB is enabled, but not for hibernation and when turned off) and I didn?t do any changes to the BIOS. This issue is a real pain in the ass, so any advice will be welcome.

I know something is wrong because Ive gotten way better battery life before, and the fan is now always be putting out really hot air, even when all im doing is typing a word document. Anyone know whats going on here and how to fix it ?????                                                                                                      Thanks in advance for any help.

Answer:y480 Battery Drains Incredibly Fast

Hi

Welcome to the community.

As per your concern battery drains quickly and CPU Fan blows hot air. So to recover this issue you need to perform the Gauge reset first, to do so:
1. Open Lenovo Energy Management
2. Under Battery Health, Click on Start for Battery Gauge Reset.
3. That should refresh the gauge and let the system finish through the cycle.
4. It will take more time to complete, please do not close the system till the Gauge reset completed.

And then for the CPU FAN purpose you need to update the Bios of your system from the below mentioned web link.

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&DocID=HT073632

After this, please restart the system and check if the issue resolved.

Regards,
Sameer

My T410s battery will drain within 2 days while suspended.  I have not tested hibernation but haven't noticed the same amount of drain.  On all my other laptops running Windows 7 or any other version I can suspend the computer and will see a slight battery drain over a 2 day period but not a complete drain.  I have it configured w. a SSD and wonder if this is the cause.  Are others experiencing the same thing?

I have a T400 running a clean install of Windows 7 64-bit Professional with just about all Lenovo drivers installed.  Everything has been running fine for a while, but a couple of days ago I noticed that if I put it to sleep overnight not plugged in, the battery is dead in the morning.  The computer does go to sleep, but when I wake up, the battery is either just about empty, or the computer has shut down.  I only noticed this recently, as I usually leave the laptop docked overnight. Anyone else notice a similar behavior?  I'm fairly sure this is not normal, and it is important, as I use the laptop at law school and put it to sleep between classes.

Hi i have HP 15 Notebook PC and i am facing problem since start that my battery drains out automatically while the PC is turned OFF or in sleep mode.. I have changed my settings and disabaled fast boot which has solved the problem to some extent but still when i use my laptop after  a day, I use to face the same problem.. same problem is very much pretinent once i turn off my PC in sleep mode.. then the battery last for only 4 to 6 hours .. Its very annoying while you are travelling and you turn off your PC with full battery and after 6 hours when you need your laptop and you find out battery is empty.. If i press power button even then no response from Laptop . I also think that may be battery is not draining out gradually , else i think it drains out all of a sudden due to some malfunchioning

I have a Gateway MX6030 laptop that drains its battery, even when AC is plugged in. Sitting in Windows I watch the battery go from 100, down to 99, down to 98, etc. Even when off, the battery will not charge anymore. Also, I am unable to power on the PC without a battery installed, even with the AC cord plugged in. Right now I am charging the battery via another Gateway laptop of a similar model.

I have purchased another AC cord and battery with no luck. Does anyone have any insight as to what could be happening here?

Answer:Gateway MX6030 battery drains even with AC plugged in

I have read a few places that the DC outlet on the motherboard could be loose/detached... But if that were the case, why would Windows reconize that it's plugged in?

Still researching.. Need advice =).

My battery drains from 100% to zero in about a week when powered off. A tech, in a chat session, said this was normal, and that HP batteries are expected to drain from 100% to zero in 5 or 6 days when powered off. That can't be right. A lithium-ion battery should lose about 10% charge per MONTH (http://www.batteryeducation.com/2012/10/battery-self-discharge-rates.html). But according to the tech it loses 15 to 20% charge PER DAY. What is HP's expected self-discharge rate for a laptop battery when the laptop is powered off? The "battery test" in the HP diagnostics said my battery was healthy. But I don't think it is. I want to know at what rate a fully charged battery should lose its charge when the machine is powered off so I can tell if my battery is defective. Thanks!

I have a HP Pavilion X2 Product Number F5W70UA#ABA. I have been having trouble since I bought this just a few short months ago. The battery drains within an hour or 2 whenever I put the machine to sleep (close the lid, put in sleep mode, etc.). I have updated the BIOS and all the latest drivers. It helped ensure I could wake up the machine, but the battery keeps draining and I am at my wits end. I have also gone through many forum postings on this issue and have run the HP Battery Test as well as checked all the power management settings and they appear to be set up properly. Any help would be greatly appreciated. - Jim

Answer:HP Pavilion X2 Battery Drains when in Sleep Mode

Hi DontLoveWindows, From the information that you have given me, it is showing that you have 2 anti-virus softwares installed. Avast and Norton, that are continuously running when the printer is in sleep mode, which would be draining your power. It also shows that your printer has missing or misconfigured drivers which could be using power as well. Here is an HP Photosmart Full Feature Software and Drivers download for your printer. I suggest that you Disable your startup software. To do this: Right click or touch and hold the bottom left corner of the screen and select Run.Type msconfig in the Run box, and then press Enter. The MSconfig window opens. If the User Account Control window opens with the message, Windows needs your permission to continue, click or tap Continue to close the window. If Normal Startup is currently selected, follow these steps:Select Selective Startup, and then clear the Load Startup Items check box.Click or tap the Services tab, and then select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box at the bottom of the screen.Click or tap Disable All.If Selective Startup is currently selected, follow these steps:Click or tap the Services tab, and then select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box at the bottom of the screen.Make a list of the items that are selected. My new L460 purchased just last month drains too fast, and charges too fast. Even when shut down from the Start Menu, it loses ~20% in 12 hours. However, Lenovo Settings sees the battery condition as "good". I'm thinking of doing a Battery Gauge Reset, but I read in other forums that this procedure can damage the Li-Ion battery. Has anyone had a similar problem? How did you solve it?

I have a HP stream x360, and it is having battery problems. First of all, it drains even when I shut it down completely. I shut it down with approximately 90% battery and about a day later it wont turn on. So I go to charge it, which leads to my second problem. It charges insanely slow. It has been plugged in for 12 hours, and when I press power, the button lights up for 5 seconds and then turns off. It isn't a kink in the wire because I store it properly, and it is unravelled when charging. It isn't the outlet because ai have moved 3 times, which means totally different outlets, but all with the same charge speed; SLOW. Finally, it is actually fully plugged into the computer because the little red light IS on, indicating it is charging. So what do I do? What is wrong? I can't take out a battery because it is internal. And currently, I cannot do anything with the computer because it is still dead, and it has a habit of taking 2 days to charge. About. Please help. I got it about 9 months ago. It isn't even a year old.

Hi,
I have a Satellite Pro A210 new in Jan. The battery seems to discharge quite quickly during normal use so I?d be interested if anyone could let me know what kind of life you get from yours.

More problematic is that when left in hibernate it drains the battery in about 36 hours, again I?d be interested in your experiences.

It seems to charge normaly so I wonder if the pc is drawing more current than it should. I spotted a thread on the Toshiba knowledge base that mentioned Wake on Lan causing similar problems and recommends turning it off in the bios, I've checked and it's off.

Any help much appreciated.

Andy

Answer:Satellite Pro A210: Battery drains to quick

Hi,

usually the battery should last about 2 hours (surfing, writing, etc). I mean it depends from so many factors like:

1. powersaving settings
2. running applications
3. executed application
4. connected peripherals (like USB-HDD, etc..)

regarding the hibernate: thats normal. Which time did YOU expect?
It would be also very nice if you could tell me for how long your machine usually in battery mode runs..would be really helpful ;)

Cheers

Answer:Battery drains too quickly on my lenovo g505s

Hi Rohitupadhaya,

Welcome to Lenovo forums

As I understood that you are facing the issue with the battery drains too quickly in your Lenovo G505s laptop.

This issue might be due to the application with high end graphics. Try to close the all the unwanted application, try to reinstall the Microsoft ACPI.

Also try to check with other battery if available, also try to reset the battery gauge by go to start search and type power manger, select battery tab under battery tab select battery maintenance.

Under battery maintenance select perform reset under battery gauge reset option.

Hope this helps! Do post us back for further queries.

I have a X120e that's losing about 10% charge per day with the notebook shut off and AC power disconnected.  I have two batteries and it happens to both.  If the battery is removed from the notebook it does not discharge. I've tried every setting I can think of.  I've even installed a different hard drive with a fresh load of Windows 7 and it still happenes.  I've also tried removing the batter after shutting down Windows and then reinstalling it without sucess.  My last ditch attempt yesterday was to remove to WAN card but that didn't help either. This problem is beyond annoying and make the computer very difficult to use.  If anyone has a suggestion I'd love to hear it. Thanks!

Hi, I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Y400Intel i7-3630QM 2.4GHz8GB RAM1TB HDDnVidia Geforce GT 650MWindows 8 64-bit This is the first laptop I own (I've always been using desktops) and I first noticed that leaving my laptop in sleep would drain the battery at 10%/hour, so I decided to leave it in hibernate instead. Same thing happens, the battery drains at 10%/hour, so I try Shutting it Down... Same thing happens, Battery drains at 10%/hour. So I removed the battery waited several hours, plugged it back in, and noticed that it does NOT drain to any noticeable amount. All of this is happening when the laptop is not being charged by the way. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi So I just bought a E540 Thinkpad, and so far the actual laptop has been fantastic. However, if I leave it unplugged and closed (in sleep mode), within 24 hours the battery drains to 0. This has never been the case with any of my previous laptops so I'm just wondering, is this a thinkpad issue? or are there some kind of settings that I need to change? Thanks in advance.

I just bought a new battery on ebay for my n100, and it drains quickly.  It seems like it barely holds and hour charge (maybe a little more).  The battery is charging to 57720 mWh, which is max capacity of the battery.  I know this is a 6-cell battery, but shouldn't I be getting at least a 2 hour charge?  Even with my brightness down, cpu voltage down, lower res, etc., it still drains just the same.  Is this a battery problem?  I have a 2.0ghz core duo, and nvidia 7300 go.

I noticed that if I unplug the laptop during night with the battery at full charge, after 8 hours it has lost 4% of charge after a complete power off...

That's crazy!!

Is this the normal behaviour?
Or, can I modify something in the BIOS in order to reduce this power drain?

Answer:Portege Z930 drains battery even when power off

Hi

Its normal if you use options like Sleep & Charge or Wake Up on LAN or Wake up on keyboard.

But this can be disabled in BIOS or in the Toshiba HWSetup Utility.

After you disabled the settings in BIOS, save the changes and reboot the unit.
