Preferred Solution: Asus laptop with 8.1, screen issue?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a friends Asus x54h laptop that is not booting, and it is droving me crazy.

What is happening:
When the power button is pressed the fan turns on and some indicator lights turn on including the hard drive indicator light. Then the disc drive makes a noise and the hard drive indicator light turns off. Here is a picture of the indicator lights:

Nothing ever shows up on the screen.
Sometimes after running 1-5 minutes the laptop will just completely turn off.

What I have tried:
-Booting with just the power cord connected.

-Booting with just the battery connected.

-Taking out the battery and unplugging the power cord and holding the power button for 40 seconds, then plug in and try to boot again.

-Attaching a screen and pushing the keyboard buttons to add an additional screen. Nothing showed up on it.

-Taking it's hard drive and putting it in a good laptop. It booted into Windows and ran without issues.

-Replacing the current stick of ram with a new one from crucial.com. This laptop only has one RAM slot and I don't have any compatible RAM so I had to just buy one. I put it in, and nothing happened differently. Also, if I remove the RAM completely nothing happens differently. This made me think that there might be an issue with the RAM slot. I looked at it, and there seems to be something a little weird about one of the connectors. Here is a picture:

I am not sure, but I thought that this might be causing the RAM to not be detected. I used a ... Read more

Hi, I am having an issue with my ASUS laptop touchpad. I am using Windows 10. The model is F553M if that matters. The touchpad isn't reponding at all. Sometimes after a restart, it will work for a little while. I have checked in Device Manager and the mouse and pointing devices isn't even there. I checked the mouse properties and under hardware it is empty. Solutions I have tried so far: Downloading and updating touchpad driver. I am currently using the numerical pad to use my laptop and it is really annoying. Please help!

Hello! I have an Asus 2-in-1. it turns into a tablet and into a laptop so it does have a keyboard. Someone cracked my screen about a year ago now, so I have turned off the touch-screen feature and the screen is still cracked. However, it is still a reallyyyyy crappy computer. So last night when my keyboard kept "detaching" frequently (according to the little sounds played) in an annoying manner, most of the time a message saying "The USB drive insert is not recognized" or something like that. Then it stopped accepting it all together. Now I cannot get past my lock screen or type anything. But what's weird is that it's not auto-rotating so it recognizes there's a keyboard attached, it just wont allow me to do anything on it. PLEASE HELP ME. Thanks!

Hey guys,

I have an Asus R500A laptop and it has Windows 10 Home. When I first got that laptop, it was loaded with Windows 7 Home Premium. I've upgraded to Windows 10 back in 2015 (as part of the free upgrade promotion back then) and while I didn't have any problems with the Windows 10 upgrade back then - until recently a major update to Windows 10 has affected my Wi-Fi issue.

My laptop has an Atheros AR9485 Wi-Fi card onboard and during a few occasions, my Wi-Fi could drop suddenly without noticing. When I tried to reconnect to my Wi-Fi router that is within range, it tries to connect - but it gives me a red "X".

I've tried to turn off the Wi-Fi and turning it back on, but it gives me the same problem. The only way that I can fix that problem - is to restart my computer.

For you reference, the version of the driver for my Atheros AR9485 Wi-Fi card is 3.0.2.201.

While re-installing my operating system isn't my option so far, I want to know how can I fix that issue from happening again. I'm also hinting that something "hidden" that caused my Wi-Fi connection to drop and then won't connect at all.

Please advise.

LCD panel need to be replaced that blue line will come back and won't go away. Contact Asus and see if they can repair that for you. You could do it yourself if you're handy. Skill tech it would take 15 minutes to remove then replace it another 10-15 minutes.

This is my third thread post because I'm having three issues all at the same time but this one is actually very old. It doesn't bug me but can get annoying.

If I plug in headphones and take it out, it'll say the headphones are still plugged in 90% of the time. I just go to "Change sound card settings" and disable headphones when I'm not using it so the speaker is in use. I usually use my speakers but my sibling uses headphones so it gets annoying.

Is there a way to fix this?

I have an ASUS x550C laptop running Windows 7 64 bit, Professional.

Answer:ASUS Laptop sound issue

That sounds like a defective headphone jack. Many headphone jacks have an extra contact that signals that a headphone is plugged in. If that contact is "flakey" as it seems yours is that could cause the problem.

Hi,

I've recently bought a G60vx laptop and installed a clean win7 32bit, all driver are up to date including nvidia display.
i'm using a second monitor and disabled/turned off laptop monitor as i won't be using it.
i did this in the control panel that changes resolution etc. nividia control panel confirms this too. the problem is when i'm dragging windows around on the screen, it's all a bit jumpy and leaves traces of the window as i'm dragging it... this also happens if i'm just using the laptop screen on it's own without the additional monitor.

I've come from using a desktop so is this something laptop users experience?

Thanks.

For example, if I press z key button, z will be shown on screen but the cursor kept going left repeatedly.. and it won't stop until i press other normal functioning keys

Answer:Asus F83Se laptop keyboard issue

How to Reset a Keyboard

1
Bring up the keyboard settings dialog box. Double-click the "My Computer" icon on the desktop. Click the "Change a Setting" choice in the left column. In the window that appears, double-click the "Keyboard" icon. This dialog box handles all settings for your current keyboard. Another path to the control panel is to click the "Start" button at the bottom left of the screen. Roll the mouse pointer up to "Settings" and click "Control Panel."

2
Reset the character repeat settings. The speed of character repeat and the delay before repeating starts is adjustable with sliding level indicators. Click on the adjuster and hold your finger on the mouse button to drag the adjustment left or right.

3
Change the cursor blink rate. A faster blink helps to locate the cursor while moving it with the arrow keys. Change the blink rate by dragging the slide to the left or right for slower or faster.

4
Enable the keyboard to accommodate one-handed typing or foreign languages. Click on the "Input Locales" tab near the top of the dialog box. Click the "Add" button for choices of available languages. Click the "Properties" button for choices to include Dr. Dvorak?s keyboard layouts for two-handed typing or single-handed typing with either hand.

Alright well, I was at my bestbuy, because I have been doing SERIOUS Shopping for a great gaming laptop. I went ahead and bought a..

Dell Inspiron R17
Intel i5 Turbo Boost from 2.4Ghz to 2.6ghz
Intel GMA HD
3GB DDR3 RAM
etc etc

Well it is currently still at my house, waiting to be returned tomorrow.
But I bought a new laptop today..

ASUS G73-RBBX05
Intel i7 running 1.6Ghz Turbo boost 2.8Ghz
ATI Radeon Mobile HD 5870 Graphics
6GB DDR3 RAM
etc etc

Now, I turned the damn thing on (Which was pre-loaded with geek squads crap and a backup disc set) And it was actually pretty slow.. I mean, i went in and got rid of some of the crap but i mean, it was pretty slowish for an i7. Laggy on firefox and all. I did a restart and all worked decently..
I can play Crysis on Max. But the bulkyness of this laptop has turned me off quite a bit. Basically, everything has. And to top it off, it just froze when I closed out of Crysis and went to click something else 55 seconds later. I had to do a hard reset.

Now, question is. IF I take my Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade disc that I use for my desktop. Use the 64-Bit disc, could I use the OEM Sticker and just do a fresh Windows Install? To eliminate any of the possible crap Geek squad did? OR Whatever the case?
Should I just stick to the Dell?

Hi all I have just replaced the hard drive on my friends machine after it failed , the problem is I can't get windows to start when I install the graphics card I get horizontal lines down the screen on the bios startup up screen, and then a blue screen crash dump every time, if I pull the card it works fine with on board graphics.
The pc is a hp sr2125uk and graphics card Asus GeForce 750le.
I have installed the drivers on the hp website and also tried windows update drivers through device manager and nvidia drivers from nvidia website.
Any clues anyone

Answer:Asus 750le blue screen issue

This appears to be a graphics card problem often associated with the memory on the card being incorrectly used by the system or perhaps damage from when the old drive failed.
I can only suggest two possible simple solutions:

Reseat the graphics card(s) and ensure good contacts.
When the bad screen occurs, turn the PC off at the mains and leave it for a few minutes before trying again.

If neither of the above work you could be into a longer fault finding job, starting with disconnection of all peripherals and checking by reconnection one at a time. I would suggest the HDD first and see if you can get into BIOS alone.

Hello,

I'm going to install windows 10 home on a brand new Asusu laptop which has a 1TB Hard drive. Actually first time installation was fine but i think something went wrong when partitioning the Hard drive. It was come with DOS so i executed diskpart command and format from MBR to GPT and made 3 paritions. There were 2 primary partions as i remember once i did that. So i installed one of them on my Windows 10. Installation was successful But i couldn't see all the partitions which i made. I could see only the partition which i installed Windows 10 which is a 200GB partition. So rest of the 800GB was lost from 1 TB. Appreciate your help on this

Hi, please forgive me if I don't explain much very well, I'm not a very tech savvy person but this problem has driven me mad. I have tried to search around for help but I can't get the right answers, it's always for a different model of ASUS or some different sound device for Windows 7 - I just don't know how to solve this issue.
About a month or so ago, my laptop started producing these very annoying, screeching sounds in one side of my headphones. I thought nothing of it but then later, when I would play a song or a video, whether it was internet based or from my computer, I would hear crackling/popping sounds from my headphones while it played, increasing in intensity as I put the volume up. Even if the volume was done, the popping would be very loud and wouldn't go away unless I muted the speakers. The problem is NOT my headphones because I tried listening with different sets and all had the same problem.

It's not just the jack either I think because when I take the headphones out, the problem persists and the audio is laggy and distorted. Sometimes, the audio will lag so badly I can't make it out and pop so much and sometime it even just goes berserk, sounds like a bad television hum but much louder and like an annoying buzz until it goes back to popping and crackling.

The nasty problem occurs with both speakers and headphones and it's just very annoying. I can't listen to music without hearing this annoying popping, crackling, screeching, buzz noises. And it's not... Read more

Hi all,

I have this issue since upgrading, that there is a pause every 30 seconds or so. If I'm scrolling or typing it just pauses for maybe a second. I've looked and it appears there is no bios upgrade or driver upgrade on the Intel website. So I'm kind of stumped how to fix it.

The other issue is that it randomly just dumps into sleep mode. I can pull it right out, but it's annoying. I checked the screensaver and power settings, but nothing is out of the ordinary.

Laptop is an Asus N76VZ

Any ideas where to look next?

Hi SpiderX and welcome to TenForums.

First, can you please take the battery out of the laptop, plug in the power cord, and see if the pausing continues? I have seen this happen sometimes with failing batteries. Just need to make sure this is not an issue.

Second, if you have just recently upgraded, it will take several reboots and some time for the system to calm down - indexing will keep the hard drive very busy until that is completed, for example.

I've also had a situation where I found I needed to get a good full shutdown in order to correct some strange occurrences on one system after the upgrade, and so it's a matter of changing a setting in power options to get rid of "fast startup".

Let us know how it goes for you.

You could try booting into safe mode and running a system file check. Here's a link to tutorials on how to do that if you haven't before : Boot to Advanced Startup Options in Windows 10 Windows 10 Installation Upgrade Tutorials

Not sure if you can still access it through the F8 key, though you could try that first. Or you could try a system restore I suppose. You have rebooted correct?

I recently purchased this brand new laptop for light gaming/web surfing/audio editing. I have it connected to a 47" Vizio LED TV which runs at 120Hz using HDMI. The native resolution is 1920x1280. The computer is set to project to second screen only, and in this mode, it works fine. I am able to do anything I want to do without interruption. There is no lag, and the computer's resources are not overwhelmed, even when playing fullscreen 3D games from the computer. However, when I want to take my laptop away from the TV and go somewhere with it, the screen on the laptop flashes on and off several times per minutes, as if its trying to "reset" the resolution. I have tried unplugging everything, restarting, checking every graphics setting I can find, and I can't make it quit. I paid nearly a grand for this thing and I want it to work right, but I can't figure out what the problem is. Anybody have any ideas what might be causing this and why?

Hello rsteele1113 and welcome! The standard first question always has to be: have installed the latest drivers and BIOS? I see you have Intel HD graphics. Make sure you try the latest driver from Asus or try the latest at Intel site.

I notice in your system specs you have listed your laptop as a SonicMaster. That is the sound technology it is using, not the model. Do you know the model? You need that the search for the correct drivers.

Answer:Screen printing key on ASUS laptop?

In most of the laptops and computers there is a a key called "Print Screen", which helps you in this process. This key is generally found along with the Home, End and Scroll Lock keys. I hope this solves the problem, if it dos not, provide me with the information regarding the ASUS laptop model number and also the operating system that you are using.

Hello,
I recently purchased an Asus Q524UQ flipbook laptop. It came preinstalled with Windows 10 and just recently, it began with some problems where the screen would freeze and I would have no way of fixing the freeze other than forcing it to shut down. At the start, it happened right after I get booted from the new online PvP game Overwatch for poor network connection (I'm a college student btw). What I can also note is that when the screen freezes the audio would go to this weird buzzing, as if it just got stuck at the last tone it was playing.

At first I just thought it was just Overwatch messing with my computer, but later, it froze up when I was watching a Youtube video and then simply when I was searching for something on Amazon. This didn't happen every time I got on the computer, in fact, I can say that it happens only once a day. However, I got concerned when my computer froze up two times in a row in less than 5 minutes. I am a CS major so you can go a little technical with the ideas, however be in mind it can't be like a long fix since I need this computer for school work too.

Hello,
I got problem with my Asus laptop screen showing "incorrect colores". It is not inverted, but like loosing pink or green in general.
It happened while I was switching to HDMI and playing with resolution, now restart or sleep is not helping, BUT:
1) external HDMI screen (projector) is ok - shows right colors
2) safe mode helps - so in safe mode I can see right colors on laptop screen

so I really believe that it might be software problem.

I might say that I see smth like this though it is not my photo

Hi guys,
For about 5 months now I've been putting up with my laptop having screen difficulties as I've just been connecting it up to a external screen using a VGA cable. The basis of my situation is that anything displayed on my laptop screen doesn't display the right colours - they all have a gray tinge to them and it frequently flashes when i try to alter the screen (move it up and down). I've tried many things to resolve my issue (fn+C for asus splendid technology to alter the display, adjusted the screen graphics, adjusted the intel graphics) I've been floating around different forums and they haven't been able to help.

The laptops gray flickering tinge does NOT transfer onto my external screen, It's NOT always like this, the screen doesn't start having difficulties with colour until i alter the screen (move it up or down) or start running various programs/games. The laptop itself is about 2 years old and the warranty has run out so i cannot use it. I'm aware it could be a internal graphics card issue as the screen flickers when I move the screen.
On a side note; around 5 months ago i connected a new Samsung screen (which i am now using), around that time this issue started occurring.

I'm just wondering if there's something i can try before I need to take it to someone to repair it for me.

Thank you very much.

Answer:Asus laptop screen flickering issues

Lose cable. If you are comfortable talking your laptop apart then go ahead. and try re-seating the cable connections, secure them tightly to the connections, if that doesn't work then determine from there weather you need a new cable or screen.
If you do not feel comfortable talking it apart then take it to a local shop.

I have an ASUS N61JV series laptop. Everything was totally fine until I decided to re-partition the internal hard drive so the main partition had more data, and added a few smaller partitions for a future OS I'm wanting to install.

Basically what happens now (since after rebooting, letting EASEUS Partition Master do its work, etc) is the laptop gets to the POST screen (where it says ASUS- I don't have the messages enabled, though probably should..) and hangs. Within 15-30 seconds the laptop gets very hot and I switch it off myself and let it cool down before trying again.

Seems to only happen with this hard drive. I've plugged it into a different computer via usb and everything is intact as it should be, and windows chkdsk shows no errors.

Plugging a spare hard drive of the same type inside the laptop allows me to get past the POST screen and everything operates normally.

Perhaps I need to buy a new hard drive.... Thanks for all your help everyone!

Answer:ASUS laptop won't pass POST screen

Its possible Easeus has corrupted the boot sector on the hard drive.

If it works in another computer then copy off any data you have on the drive before doing much more, as you may lose it all.

If the data and the O/S is not important then delete the partitions on the drive via USB or use a drive zero utility such as the Western Digital Diagnostics.

If you want to fix it try booting from a Windows disc and try FixMBR or Fixboot, or use TestDisk when its connected via USB to attempt to fix it.

How to turn on Touch Screen?

Answer:Does Asus Laptop windows 8.1 have touch screen?

Without a better description / type number it is impossible to check the specifications to see if this Asus has a touch panel.
So check the box or see if there is something on the Asus which indicates it had a touch screen.

Hi,

I've had my ASUS K55A laptop for just over a year now.

I was using it fine one night, turned it off correctly and went to sleep.

The next day I went to use it and when I turned it on it only displayed a black scree (no display).

I can't even hear the fan or eject the disc tray.

I've tried it with the battery and without, with the charger plugged in and without.

All the LED Symbol lights flash green apart from the battery light which flashes orange when the battery is connected and even when it's disconnected.

I've tried the holding my finger on the power button to drain the battery but it didn't work either.

I've ordered a new battery as I've read that some laptops can only function properly with a battery....

Anyone got and advise or diagnostics?

Any help would be appreciated, thank you in advance.

Hey, I got an asus g75vw laptop.
I purchased an SSD a few days ago, my laptop now uses both the SSD and HDD, today it started up fine i however got a message from smartscreen? windows 10 saying my drive needed to be checked or something, well it checked the drives after that i got a blue screen which said: select your keyboard language, i selected VN international upon which it didn't respond, i just pressed the power button off to shut it off that way since i had to leave quickly, after i came back a few hours later that's when it didn't work anymore.
This happens when i click the power button:
These lights come on: power, the lock? button and the HDD light, however this one turns off after 5~ seconds.
My screen is black for the entire duration, no logo no nothing, i can't go into BIOS either.
What i've tried:
- Removing the HDD and SSD multiple times, starting up with only the HDD only the SSD with both etc
- Turning all the power off, removed the battery and charger, pressing it down for 60 seconds and restarting with only the charger back plugged in, i did this for 4~ times.
- I tried removing the battery for an hour or so and nothing.
- I removed everything, battery ssd hdd and let it stay for an hour, also nothing
- I tried using an external monitor but you can already guess, nothing
If anyone got any tips on how to fix this that'll be awesome!

Are you able to open BIOS or boot in Safe Mode? Please provide exact make/model of your computer.Boot in Safe Mode in Windows 8Usually you can hold F2, F9, DEL, or some other key to bring up BIOS, it varies based on computer. It sounds to me like it might be a graphics card problem. Have you tried using a different graphics card in the computer? Also, are all your graphics drivers up-to-date?Worse case scenario, you could always run startup repair off of your Windows install discs, and if that doesn't work, just reinstall Windows completely.

Hi, I'm from Italy and I'm new on this forum (fair new on W7 too (have had XP before), so I think this is the best place to ask for.
I have a problem with the colour rendition of my brand new Asus N75SF, so I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find a reliable ICC colour profile for the screen of that laptop.
I googled around, but find very very little.
Or can I build my very own profile using W7?

So today i just brought my laptop to a local vendor to fix the part that connects the screen and the keyboard, it's a long u shaped metal thingy. As far as i know, they glued it, and I don't think they had anything to do with screen... but for some reason i came home, turned it on, had it on for 5 mins they I noticed it... kinda sucks that it happens/occurs randomly, rarely, So I could not tell when I was at their shop... now these guys are Asians (nothing racist, but they like making money...) and i am afraid they wont accept to have a look at my laptop and want to charge me more! there isn't shit i can do, cuz i have NO PROOF! is there anyway to fix it myself? I really don't wanna spend more money... especially LCD (1920x1080) which is really expensive... please people, help me with this. Thanks
Things I have tried:
1.Check the motherboard with magnifying glass looking for any chips out of place
2.Checking the cables, touching them to see if they trigger it
3.I tried gently touching around the screen, so if it triggers it, Nothing...
4.Connecting it to my TV with my HDMI, worked nicely, no glitches but it was split screen, my laptop screen had glitches but the TV did not...
5.Recording it with video recorder to see if it catches it. (Idk if recorders record your screen or get it straight from GPU) and results was that it cough the glitches...
Things I have not tried:
1.New Drivers: All my drivers were working just find yesterday, shit just doesn't get fucked in 13 hours...

A cursed ASUS laptop - I've posted about it elsewhere in these forums - was working tonight, has worked fine for about 7-8 weeks, and then when it was put to sleep by closing it, upon being opened, would only display the ASUS splash screen (the first thing one sees when turning it on - basically a black screen and the word ASUS).

The computer turns off fine with the power button. Turns on fine too, but gets no farther than the splash screen. No POST beeps, nothing at the bottom of the screen saying how to get to setup or anything.

If a bootable DVD is inserted and the computer started, there are some noises like the computer hardware is interacting with the DVD (sorry, I'm not sophisticated enough to describe the noises, other than to say I never hear the DVD start to spin fast), but then 5-10 seconds later the noises stop and it's just the splash screen again and nothing else.

Odd laptop charger behavior, culminating in sparking last night describes the last issues with this computer, which were seemingly fixed about two months ago with the replacement of the motherboard.

It's going back to the shop, but I'm wondering about any intelligent suggestions as to what's wrong here.

Obviously the "repair/replace" teeter-totter is inexorably tipping toward replace.

Answer:ASUS laptop stuck at splash screen - won't boot from HD or DVD

Google is my friend. Took a lot of poking, but Stuck on asus logo on startup?? - FixYa suggests the following:

Quote:
Same problem here with my wife's Asus laptop. Called Asus and they said to unplug charger, remove the battery in the back, hold down the power button for 10 seconds. Then, replace battery, then charger, then press the power button and wait for startup. First time it got stuck at the windows loading bar screen for like 5 min. which is abnormal. Did a hard power down (press and hold power button til it shuts off) then restarted again. That time it worked and all is well so far. Could have been due to a static charge as she was on our couch with our dog backing up movies so charge might have entered through the CD/DVD drive opening. (?) Not sure, but if you are sitting on a static-prone couch with your laptop its probably best to sit on top of a bounce sheet.

I did that and it worked.

I'll mark the thread as solved a few days down the road if no further incidents.

Meanwhile - any comments on what might have led to this situation?

Hi for the past month or so my Asus laptop have been getting random freezing and hangs which is then followed by the screen turning black. Most of the time the mouse is visible other times its blinking. When this happened while i was in the skype convo i could still hear and talk to my friends but cannot get out of the black screen as Ctrl+alt delete doesn't work and i am forced to power it off manually. The things i have tried so far:
-doing sfc /scannow which comes out with having some corrupted files that were unrepairable
-i did a rollback on my display driver and when my laptop freezes it doesnt have a black screen but when i click on the desktop the popup box saying that windows process is not responding comes up and whenever i click on end process nothing happens and if i click on anything the box just comes back which basically keeps looping.

A while ago, my laptop's power button broke/slid off, as it is way inside the computer made of glass plastic material, so the sponges inside holding it, came apart. The button is not on the actual button within the laptop to actually turn it on and off. I decided to restart my laptop yesterday, since it was being slow with these random windows task manager things taking all the space up. Now it's just on the loading screen.

I bought this laptop 1 year ago and it's been 2 or 3 days since this message appeared on the screen and I let it "repair" for over 10 hours, then the screen became black and I couldn't use it. Since then It doesn't boot.
Every time I restart it, I see "Asus" and "Preparing automatic repair", after about 30 seconds the screen turns black.
I've been trying literally anything, I can't change the battery because it is inside the 'hard case' (I don't know how to call it) I don't care about the files, I just need the laptop.
I've also tried to reset W10 using a USB 3.0 and Create Windows 10 installation media from the official site, even entering the BIOS: nothing works.
It can recognize the Usb as a device, but the consequences are the same (even though the Asus logo appears and "Preparing automatic repair" doesn't).
I really don't know. I wish I could find something to solve this without going to the experts.
Sorry for my English.

After running the windows 8.1 update (amongst others) my laptop started being a bit glitchy but nothing major . A couple of days later I also noticed a screw was missing in the back and I didn't find it for a few days so the corner where the body attaches to the screen was popping off a little. I'm not sure which of these caused my problem.

Anyway, while using the computer chrome froze and the whole desktop wouldn't respond, so eventually I forced the computer to shut down by holding the power button (ctrl+alt+del wasn't working either)

When I went to turn my laptop back on, the power button light up and the backlight came on but it's simply a black screen with a moveable cursor. As I knew it was low on battery, I unplugged the charger and allowed itself to run down so that it could shut down completely. I then turned it back on and plugged it in - the asus logo came up and then it went to the black screen again. I've also noticed when I have my computer turned on it still makes the noise when I receive a Facebook message.

Is there anything I can do to fix this or does it need to be repaired?

My old asus laptop, running Windows Vista, has taken a turn for the worse. I recently started using it again due to my newer one being away for repairs. Unfortunately I forgot about some issues I had with this one that have recently resulted in the bluscreen memory dump. It happens randomly and I think part of the issue was the RAM. I removed the sticks and with one it worked just a bit slow and with the other the computer wouldn't even start up. So I left that one out. It was still slow however so I went into msconfig and disabled all of the programs that turn on at startup. This increased the laptops speed and all was well for about four hours. I left while a game was patching, the new Rift game which i paid extra to be able to play on release but havnt been able to, and upon my return there was blue screen.

That is my predicament. I know its a lot to read but I didn't want to leave anything out. Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to give.

Hello everyone! My name is kenny and I am here to solve this mysterious and painful situation that has befallen onto me. While watching an episode of an anime, my computer strangely closed all browsers and shutsdown on me without warning. At first, I was confused wondered what exactly happened... Not knowing what to do, I attempted to turn on my computer. The computer turned on and the Asus logo did appear, but then a black screen arrived along with a flashing underscore on the top left hand corner. It remained in this postion for what seemed like an eternity. As a result, I tried mashing the f keys on startup to see if those would yield results. f3-f12 keys did not function on startup, only f2 and 1 did and they took me to the BIOS. Ctrl+alt+delete just rebooted when the screen was black. I then decided to look up solutions for this quagmire. So I guess I'll list what I have done:

A) Went to BIOS and made sure that my HDD was on primary boot.
B) Searched for a Boot booster, but did not find one
C)Restored BIOS to original settings (Worth the try). Did not work.

I then went on to use my windows 7 usb.

by using windows 7 installation usb that I have, I:
1) Tried to recover to an earlier date, it failed.
2) Tried to reinstall windows 7. It installed but I did not get to activate it because it does not let me past the black screen.
3) Format my OS partition and then reinstall windows 7, still nothing.
4) Went to CMD and did the following commands:

It turns on but the screen doesnt. The backlight is not broken because when it does turn on (randomly) everything works. Pushing down on the screen works but only as long as I'm holding it really. So I've come to the conclusion that the lcd cable has loosened somehow or there is a problem with the program that starts the computer. I've only had the laptop for about 4 months and the problems started about 1 month after buying it.
And when it does turn on it randomly freezes I have no clue why I'm no computer expert and I've only built a single computer.

I have already ran defrag and c disk cleanup, ran Norton and turned off unnecessary programs. The vents are not obstructed and I've already done what I think is a hard reset. Removing the battery, holding the power button for 45 seconds and then putting everything back together.

I'm about to throw the thing out the window and I cannot afford any parts to replace or take it to any computer repair shop. I only make about 150 a week.

HI all,

I am having problems detecting the Xonar Pheobus and have tried all the pcie slots with no luck. Red and the grey - even the shorter grey slot.

Have disabled the motherboard's HD onboard sound too and still not detected in my devices......

The pcie cable is connected to the sound card and I have enough PSU to power all - Enermax 1250W.

When the card is inserted to the grey slots - The red light is seen through the control extension box (Headphone/Microphone Connector box) jack ports. However the green light is NOT seen AND the Xonar Phoebus logo on the card itself is lit (powered up)

However, when I insert the card into the red pcie slots these lights are not on.

One this else I noticed is the card DOES go warm over some time so tells me it is 'not' switched off........

I tried to install the driver and I get a message 'no card detected' etc etc.
Is there anyone kind enough to advise me their BIOS settings etc who has managed to get the Xonar to work properly. Did you have to adjust any BIOS settings from default to get the card to be recognised?

Printscreens would be cool if it is not too much of a bother.

Thank you in advance

Kind regards

Killershadow

Answer:Asus Xonar Phoebus and Asus Rampage 5 Extreme issue

The question(s) I have is ->
Am I missing anything when attempting to install the sound card? I have tried with no GPU drivers (including the Nvidia sound for the GTX 750 ti sc) / disabled onboard HD sound and still the sound card not detected.
Even in this motherboard, it should detect the sound card regardless of what sound source is set as default and then allow me to install it and set it as default (without messing about with the BIOS)?
Maybe my sound card has died when moving it from the last computer - Static death.....................
Thanks

Hello, So I have a user that just recently started to have an issue.  The laptop is fine (beyond the sound issues with the X230 which aren't solved (sound issue)), but if the user puts the laptop in the docking station with the laptop lid/screen closed/down, the external monitor only displays the desktop background but no login screen or desktop icons. This user has Windows 7 Pro. on it, I just installed the latest video driver from Lenovo's site and that didn't help.  I made sure the screens were set to clone and not extended displays. When the user flips up the laptop screen/lid, both screens are cloned and all is fine.  Supposedly this just started to happen a few days ago. But if the user has the laptop turned off, puts it in the docking station, closes the lid and turns the laptop on, the external monitor works just fine. I've changed clone to extended desktop just to see if that would help any but it didn't.  Set her back to cloned displays. Only other thing I can think of doing is to make sure the external monitor's resolution is set right but...don't understand what's going on.... Thoughts?

Answer:x230 (2320) laptop issue with external monitor when laptop lid/screen is up

Hi, cftech

My first recommendation would be to make sure that the BIOS and chipset drivers are the latest version. Since the external monitor works, just only certain circumstances, this is most likely a software issue of some sort. The BIOS can be found here and the chipset here.

Also, if possible, could you have the user try to connect to the external monitor without the docking station? I'm just curious if the docking station could have something to do with the issue,

Best of luck, and let me know how it goes
Adam

Have Dell Latitude D400 Laptop which is several years old. For many months, had minor problem where LCD screen would have partial garbled horizontal lines, but when I shifted the screen angle -- moved screen on hinges -- back and forth slightly, then screen would be fine. But recently, the bottom 70% of the screen has turned to olive green mush with a few other vertical lines, where as the top 30% of the screen is fine. When I connect external monitor to rear jack, I am able to see all the graphics there and the hardware and software otherwise performing. When run built-in diagnostics, get graphics error with no external monitor, but all tests just fine when ext monitor connected. Conclusion from on line chat with Dell Tech was LCD Screen problem and referred me to the toll free SALES phone number -- meaning just purchase another one.

How do I know if the problem is the LCD screen being shot, or possibly just needing to clean or repair the connection through the hinges from the CPU/graphics card to the screen itself? If the latter, who should I seek to do such a repair or can I get guidance to open the unit and try myself as I am technically comfortable doing so with instruction? And given the cost of new laptops today, if I need to go outside for repairs, where should I look and up to what cost do you think is worth it, vs just abandon and purchase a new one.

Answer:Laptop LCD screen or screen connection issue

Could be a bad connection or the LCD might be shot. I would take it apart and at least poke around if it is no longer under warranty. Dell has some pretty good service manuals on their site. I think yours is here: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latd400/en/index.htm#online_documentation

If you don't find anything obvious wrong with it, you can most likely get a screen off FleaBay for a few bucks and try it out.

Or just get some huge hinges and mod a 50" plasma screen on it...

Good luck!

Hello im having a problem with my ASUS Laptop K401U. It just started about 2 hours ago, so whenever I turn on my laptop it just stuck on the ASUS Logo with spinning circle under itI still can access the BIOS, but dont know what to do about it though.

I didnt install any update for windows before this.
I tried searching for solutions in youtube and many other forums, some said try to restart the laptop few times until "automatic repair" comes up, by holding the power button until it is turned off. I already restarted more than 10 times already and the automatic repair thing doesnt show up. It looks like this:

Sorry for my bad english
Any solutions?

Answer:ASUS Laptop stuck on ASUS Logo with spinning circle under it

Hi hakushoddd. Welcome to the TenForums @hakushoddd

Its a timing thing. Start your computer, as soon as you see the spinning dots hold down the power key until it shuts down. Start again and again as soon as you see dots hold power key down. On the next boot it should give you the menu.

If you can get into the BIOS I would shut down Fast Boot.

Failing all of the above, do you have boot media?

Asus has some way of starting their programs that I can't find. In particular, I want to disable their Wireless Console 3 (wcourier.exe). There are other programs but I can't remember what they are right now. I can only tell you that is does not show up in msconfig or HJT. Does anybody know where I can find these startup entries?

Thanks!

Mark

Answer:Asus Laptop can't find startup entries for Asus Programs

Try using Sysinternals Autoruns.
It lists a lot more than msconfig.

You can download the Sysinternals Suite, or just the Autoruns utility.

Greetings,

My almost 3 year old Asus X52 F3SV Notebook suddenly froze and shut itself down today. It will not boot past the 'Asus' logo screen. The furthest it got was 'loading windows', but quickly rebooted once that screen showed up.
It has been running quite hot lately, but i cleaned the fan out last weekend, and it had been running without problem since then.
I'm running Windows Vista Premium, with no other real problems until now, with up to date windows updates and regular Spybot and anti-virus scans.
There were random multicoloured lines running through the Asus screen on the first reboot after freezing. Could it be my graphics card? (Nvidia 8600m). I did not hear any crackling/popping sounds, so I really hope it's not dead yet.
I've looked around these forums, but couldn't find a similar problem/solution.

Thank you.

Answer:Asus x52 F3SV notebook not booting past Asus screen

Try running Bios defaults

This settings area can be called:
Bios Setup
CMOS Settings
System Setup
even just Setup
You can enter it by pressing the keyboard key that is displayed on your screen when first turning on your computer
Its sometimes:
A Fn Button like F1, or F2, or F10 or some other Fn key
DEL key
(whatever the computer states on screen when you first turn on your computer)
Once in Bios Setup, locate Setup Defaults (sometimes called Optimized Defaults)
Apply it, then Save and Exit Bios Settings (which is usually F10, but it will tell you in the Bios Settings screen)

If that doesn't help try reming and re-seating your Ram cards (even your hard drive)
You can download your Manual to find the locations of these components, but they are usually located under the laptop, under the covers

If it is your Video card (onboard) then that was be a big concern
You may need to locate the disassemble guide online, then blow out all internal dust

It may also require a CheckDisk scan
You can read HERE on how to do that outside Windows

The LCD is broken and there is hardly anything a normal person can do to fix it.. If it's under warranty, get it replaced.

I have a lenovo T540 laptop. The problem is that my laptop screen will not completely work. What happens, beginning from startup, is that the laptop screen works completely normal, shows the usual lenovo loading screen, then once it reaches the point where is is supposed to show the desktop background(where you sign in.) It changes to a dim black. My external screen is black as well as though it was extending the screen. I can click, then sign in, and access all of my files after I change the setting to second screen only, but I would like to be able to use the laptop screen as well. If anybody could help that would be great.

sir, some dead pixal see on my laptop screenso please tell me a simple solution of my problemthank you.

Answer:issue about my laptop screen

There is no way to fix it the issue is whether it is serious enough to require that HP replace the screen. There is a "pixel policy" that governs the terms of the warranty. You need to contact HP Warranty Support to see if you can get a new screen.

I've had a HP dv6 laptop for close to a year now and have had zero issues up until the last week. I've noticed when watching videos in fullscreen for even a short period of time the contrast for the screen goes right up up when the video is exited, basically if I watch something and then minimise it whatever is behind it is almost unreadable, such as the standard chrome bar up top looks almost one solid, bright colour, after 5 to 10 seconds its back to how it should look.
It's also a LED display
Anybody have a similar situation or know what the problem could be?

Thanks
Andy

Answer:HP laptop screen issue

Depending on what program you use for watching videos it may just be bugging up, but also it may be that the program is infected in some way. Have you tried a virus scan?

I own an HP Compaq nc6320....and recently my screen has been acting weird. it only turns on some of the time upon startup. Sometimes it seems like it has to cool down for it to work, I'll have to leave it off for a while before the screen will work. But also i noticed that the fan doesnt seem to be running as fast when the screen isnt working. Is this because my computer isnt fully booting? I'm thinking i may have fried my video card, as i play WoW sometimes. Could this be a virus? Any help would be appritiated.

Thanks

About 2 weeks ago, a pink line appeared on my laptop screen. It is a straight line running down the length of the screen on the left side. A couple of days ago another line appeared, this time yellow. I am fairly certain that this is a hardware issue (driver re-install and system rebuild have not helped). I contacted HP who told me my 15month old laptop is out of warranty and will cost 250 to repair.Do I have any other options?ThanksTony Webber

Answer:HP Laptop screen issue

Not really it is a hardware issue rather than software I suspect. You could try ebay to get yourself a new screen cheaper and install it yourself. Usually screens are about 50 - 150 depending on the one you need. However some home insurance may cover you for the costs but remember the rise in the premium before you do claim.

Hi. I've had this laptop, a Dell Inspirion 1200, for a few weeks now. I usually either close the cover or put it into Hibernation when I'm done using it. I haven't jarred it, shocked it, or stepped on it.

Basically, I opened up the cover and hit power. While it was booting up, I looked away to do something, and when I looked back, the screen was covered in white vertical lines. I shut down the computer by holding down the power button, then rebooted. When it came up again, it was perfectly fine (no lines at all.)

Is this a fluke or something I should worry about in the future?

when i unplug my ac adapter from the wall before i unplug it from my lappy the screen stays bright, which isnt bad. but when i plug it in(wall first then lappy) it goes dim, like its in power saving mode. now how i usually fix this is i recreate the problem by unplugging it from the wall then turning the comp off, then unplug it from the comp while plugging it back into the wall, turn the comp on then plugging it back in. but it usually takes me a couple tries to get it back to normal again. ive turned off my power saving features and ive just had the computer screen replaced about 2 weeks ago. its always done this and i know it happens when i unplug it from the wall first; which if im in a hurry i dont think about it untill its to late.

its not that big of a problem but i would love to know how to fix it faster or maybe disable any features that could cause this.

my computer is an HP Pavilion zv6100 Notebook PC. its all stock except for the new screen.(the springs broke that hold it up and there was a dead pixel at the top)

Hello,

For the past few days sometimes when I open my laptop I get a grey screen with horizontal streaks (sometimes black with horizontal streaks) running across the screen. If I close the screen and re-open it eventually it will go back to normal. I've also had the screen freeze a few times for a few seconds while I'm using it.

I've hooked it up to my TV when it had the grey screen and it was working fine so I'm pretty sure it's the laptop screen. This doesn't happen all the time so if the solution is get a new screen I'll just live with it, but perhaps something simpler?

Answer:Laptop screen issue

My first guess would be the video card or driver but if you hook it to an external monitor and it is OK then it does point to the Laptop screen. Sometimes the ribbon cable from the Motherboard to the monitor can get loose or damaged. Not saying that is what it is tho.

I was using my laptop yesterday afternoon, when the screen began to fail. I turned the laptop off because it had froze, and when I tried to turn it back on, it just continuously reboots and shuts off, and the screen will not come on.

I have tried plugging in an external screen, but it does not receive a signal from the laptop, nor will the external keyboard I have to use (laptop keyboard is broken, not important).

Is there any way I can get the laptop to work again without taking it to a repair shop, or does a certain part need to be replaced?

Answer:Laptop won't start after screen issue

It could be one of several issues and from the sounds of it, would require a part replacement. Possibly the video card, but my best guess would be motherboard failure. I really wouldn't be able to tell for sure without further testing.

Peering at the screen, you can tell it's displaying. Sadly, it's only bright enough to see for a brief moment.

I'm running into the D-Sub on the TV and have the CRT/LCD setting to display on both the laptop monitor and the TV. TV is a clear picture and the laptop I'm guessing from reading I've been doing is lacking the backlight.

History: No updates have been done in the timeframe that the monitor issues surfaced. No drivers changed, no programs installed (except vaguely possibly ExamDiff and one or two portable apps (http://portableapps.com/).

A week or two ago, I noticed the screen seemed to be shadowed in one area but the shadow seemed to go away if you brightened the screen all the way. Also, the screen seemed to be flickering, like lightbulbs sometimes do before blowing, that really quick, irritating flickering. This didn't usually last long, maybe 30 seconds at the most and it would settle down, ditto the shadowing.

Now, if I switch between CRT/LCD options or press then release the little screen switch near the hinge (the one that turns off the monitor if you close the lid), I tend to get a very quick proper display on the laptop monitor before it goes dark again with the displayed information impossible to read.

The issue is the same through a hibernate and resume, brief flashes of a clear screen and then only the vague outline can be seen.

Answer:Laptop Screen Backlight(?) Issue

There are 100s of tutorials out there. It is more scary (if you've never done it before) than hard. https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=replacing+ccfl+backlight

I generally recommend replacing both the inverter and CCFL while you have it torn apart.

My laptop screen has developed a vertical grey band about 10cm wide which starts very light but as I leave the laptop switched on gets increasingly dark and when dark I can see effectively a shadow of a previous image on the screen, making it very difficult to read. I'm concerned that it may not simply be a screen replacement issue as there seems some comment that it may be a connector cable issue.  Any ideas?

Now when i do it on this laptop it just shrings the desktop down to that size and leaves a huge black box around everything else. Anyone have any idea what im missing?

I have a 600m Dell Inspiron laptop. One of the hinges of the laptop screen seems to be broken so whenever i adjust the screen the monitor just falls and closes the laptop. Although it is incovenient the laptop works perfectly. i was wondering if a) this could later on affect the laptop and mess up my screen and b) if anyone knew whether Dell warranty would fix this for me or am I held responsibles (even though i have not dropped the computer to cause this to happen).

Thanks for any suggestions!

Hi All

Does anyone have any experience of an Advent Laptop working fine, but
when you shut Windows Vista down, shortly after the screen goes blank,
the screen switches back on to a bright white?

The laptop is not on, but the screen is.... obviously this drains the battery.

Apparently some wine was spilt towards the QWERTY side of the keyboard

Any ideas?

Hello, so I have this problem with my laptop screen, My laptop is a Dell XPS 15 and not even a month old. While I was reading an article online, I thought I heard a ding sound like what it makes when it asks me for administrative permission for a program to open or do certain functions and then the right upper corner and part of the right side of my screen dimmed. As if there is a shadow over it. When my laptop asks for administrative permission it generally does dim everything but the dialogue box that opens up but never have I ever seen it dim only a section of the screen and a window never opened asking me for permission for anything.

I tried resetting my computer and it changed nothing, I also tried changing my screen's brightness and the dimmed section does get brighter with the rest of my screen but it still stays a few shades darker than the rest of the screen. I do have a warranty that would cover any repairs and fixing that needs to be done but I am hoping it is something that can be easily fixed by myself because sending it in to be looked at, repaired and then returned could take a while and I obviously don't want to waste the time if somebody knows an easy fix to this. Try booting into Safe Mode. Since that uses a generic display driver and runs minimal software I think if you get the same dimmed part of the screen you can be pretty confident that you want to get warranty service.

hi, i have an old compaq laptop running windows vista. just yesterday i was using it and i had to reboot it.. well when it booted back up and i signed in to my administrator acct..the screen turned to a solid yellow color. i can't see anything else on the screen besides the yellow. but when i sign into my kids acct, i can see the screen just fine. before all this happened, i was trying to uninstall the program called INTERNET DOWNLOAD MANAGER, which apparently had a bad key. i was trying to follow a youtube tutorial on removing the key from the .REG, and afterwards, i started having this problem. what could be causing this and how do i fix it.

Answer:yellow screen issue on compaq laptop

I'd try doing a system restore to see if that fixes it. Sounds like an issue with the registry entries you changed.
