Preferred Solution: Is "reset your phone" enough to delete all personal contents?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Is "reset your phone" enough to delete all personal contents?

Is it okay to delete the contents of the "Unallocated Files and Folders" folder from the D:\ Drive? Or should I go through and makes sure that I don't need anything first? (What is the folder for, anyway? I know it has something to do with backup and recovery.)

Answer:[SOLVED] Is it okay to delete contents of the "Unallocated Files and Folders" folder?

Does anyone have a suggestion, at least?

With the help of this tutorial you can add the option Delete Folder Contents to the right-click context menu which appears when you right-click a folder.This would come handy at times when you want to delete all the files inside a folder and all it?s sub-folders without deleting the folders themselves.
Here?s how you can do this:
* Click on Start button, type regedit in the search box and hit enter.
* In Regedit, go to: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shel
* Right-click on shell, create a new Key and name it Delete Folder Contents
v
v
* Again right-click on Delete Folder Contents, create a new Key and name it command
* In the right pane, double-click on (Default) string value and type cmd /c "cd /d %1 && del /s /q *.* in the value data field and hit OK
* Close Registry Editor and your done

Answer:Add "Delete Folder Contents" to Right Click Context Menu

Interesting--saves you the trouble of opening folder, selecting all & then deleting....

so...
hold "windows" and "r" keys type, regedit end point to "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \ Directory \ Shell " create a new key and name it "Cleanup Folder"
Right click on the "Cleanup Folder", and create a new key and name it name "Command".
Double-click Default (in the right pane) and in the Value Data field enter the following string: cmd / c cd / d% 1 & & del / s / q *.* and press OK.
now leave Regedit, right-click on a folder, and... if my english is good enough you will see see that in context menu will appear the Delete command Content Folder.....

In Windows 8.1 there was an option to delete personal info from live tiles, this was also possible on previous Windows 10 builds but I can't find it. This was useful for when inevitably something breaks on the start screen and we could 'refresh' all the tiles.

My Mail App is stuck showing 1 unread message because I reimaged back but backed up with that 1 message unread.

Can anyone help? I can't bare the robotic Microsoft Answers site.

Answer:How to delete "personal info" from Live Tiles?

There is an option for any tile to "Turn live tile off". It is found by right clicking the tile and selecting More.

Not sure if this is what you wanted for the Mail tile?

Alternatively, if you check in your mail app for unread messages, can you find the one that is still unread?

Hi Guys,
I have faced some issues with Windows 8.1 demo. So i have done a hard reset on my mobile.
I was happy that the mobile came alive and was running cool but then i found that the contacts from my outlook were not copied to the phone as well i was not able to add email accounts to my phone except microsoft's outlook which was enabled during the time of fresh startup. so i tried a lot juggling around it then finally gave up and decided to reset the mobile again.
So here i confronted the issue. I don't see "reset your phone" option under Setting >> about.
SO i saw some other option called "update demo content". i dont know what it is, but just i clicked on it and the phone started updating some stuff and then i came to know that its a retailer's package which make your phone one like we see in the store... running automatic videos and stuff.
i'm totally annoyed by this.. guys please help me ... i'm just freeked out. :(

Answer:I don't see "reset your phone" option in Settings>about in Nokia 820

:( How did you perform the hard reset ? and where did you get that device / software from ?
Google 'Nokia Lumia 820 Service manual' ...
at the very end of the manual, there is a key combination to perform a hard reset. It'll wipe EVERYTHING & start fresh (probably WinPhone 8.1, though) else use NSU to fallback to WinPhone 8.0.

I use XP Pro....
I keep my audio files in folders. And I don't know why every now and then when I open these folders all the files show in "Tile mode". I hate that and always convert them all to "List mode". But in a few days they go back to all showing in "Tile mode" again.

Is there a way to make all the contents of folders Always show in "List mode"?

Many of my folders including c:\ and Windows as well as documents show up as Pictures and videos in the explorer window.

While most other folders views can be customized to show as All Items, Documents, Pictures etc. The customize option is not available for C: or c:\windows. (Using the properties pane)

The top headers for the view are name, date taken, tags, size. I have tried to change the view by selecting the right columns but it gets reset.

How do I change the view properties of the c drive or the system directories.

Sunil.

Answer:C drive contents displayed as "pictures and videos" instead of as "all items."

Have a Lenovo Notebook. Had Insider Preview 17063.
Needed to do a Reset and now its stuck on "After Reset, Cannot get past "Link your phone and PC".

I'm signed in to my Microsoft account and there's nothing directing me anywhere.

I've used the Lenovo restore to factory and still have the same thing after it starts loading.
Haven't had any luck with the Microsoft W-10 forum. Appears I'm not alone.

Can after full reset - Microsoft Community

So far striking out with Lenovo also.
What bootable app can I create that will allow my to view the Product Key. If I get that, I can install from the latest .iso and hopefully avoid that start glitch.

Answer:After Reset, Cannot get past "Link your phone and PC"

Make sure you do not have any external USB Mass Storage drives attached to your computer, like your Phone.
You can download Belarc Advisor or Magical Key finder to view your Windows Product key.
Your product key should be installed in the Bios and you should not need to input it. if you download the Windows 10 ISO 1709 and burn it to a USB Flash drive with Microsoft Media Creation tool or Rufus, in my signature. You can boot from that, choose your Language and choose Repair Your Computer. If that still fails. then you can do a Reinstall.

I have Windows 7 Home Pro installed on my laptop, and I'm one of those people that likes to keep my Start Menu folder OCD-tidy.

In W7 (as I believe it was in Vista) there are two folders that handle the program shortcuts for the Start Menu. There's a user-specific one (for programs only that user can use) and the all-users one (for programs everyone can use).

C:\Users\Joe\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
and
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

I'm the only user on my laptop, so I'd like to just consolidate these two folders into one to make it easier for me to sort and keep track of. Is there any reason not to just drag-and-drop stuff from one to the other? Is there one that I should use in preference to the other (should I keep everything in the "user" folder or the "all-users" folder?

I'm pretty sure I just did this without any problem in Vista, but I wanted to make sure so I don't mess anything up as I'm new to W7.

Thanks,
Joe

if i try to pair the phone from "join personal area network" window i can see it in bluetooth devices list but not in "join personal area network" window.

Answer:"add new bluetooth device" vs "join personal area network"

Most likely a bug with your Windows phone, not Windows 10. Microsoft is not supporting the Lumia line that well. It does help when you ask for help, that you also post the model of the phone, what OS version it is running, along with screenshots or logs of what is wrong.

My son is going to take his old desktop to his school to let a specific group use it.
We do not want to 'just reformat' since it's an older Sony that had Me on it originally (yuck) and we installed XP. If anyone has ever done this w/ a Sony, then they know how time consuming it was: you have to d/l many programs, drivers, etc; install some before XP and some after. In short, it's a chore.

Therefore, I'd like to use some program(s) that will help me completely delete programs and files from the HDD. Obviously, I want to make sure none of the data deleted can be recovered if someone were to go playing around (most of these folks are not very computer savvy, but I don't want to leave it to too much chance).

You folks have always been the BEST help to me in the past, and I'm looking forward to more of the same :>... any suggestions for reliable (hopefully free!) software to do this?

Thanks in advance!
Maggie

I recently built a new computer and installed Windows 10 Pro Creators Update (version 1703) and just noticed that I have never had icons for Phone or Cortana in my Settings. These settings are also not available in the search bar within Settings. See attached screenshots below.

Since I've heard of issues like this resulting from pirated software, I'd like to clarify that I purchased and downloaded the OS directly from Microsoft and installed it onto a brand new SSD and have had no issues with the machine once I got the overclock stable.

Thanks in advance for any and all tips!

In Oulook Express (but I'm assuiming this is an issue in other email clients) my question is, what exactly happens when I "delete" a message from my inbox, in the TWO different cases depending on the setting for "leave a copy on the server"?
I want to have this setting checked on all my computers, and I will be responsible for deleting (on the SERVER, NOT just in my local copy on one computer) unwanted messages. My friend claims that a "delete" of a msg in my inbox only removes the local copy (when the "leave a copy" is checked). But I want to be able to delete on the SERVER, from any of my computers, so that the msg doesn't "come back" on another computer (sort of like what web-based email does, only I want this behavior with SMTP/POP). He says that to do this, I must have the "leave a copy" unchecked on at least one computer (of course in that case, getting the messages amounts to a server delete without any other specific "delete" action by me). But that means that I can't later get ANY of the msgs that were pulled by another of my computers, because all those msgs (not just the ones I want to delete) were deleted on the server. I don't mind having my various computers slightly out of sync (I can always sync them if needed) but I would like messages I DON'T delete to stay on the server. If I keep them ONLY in my local inbox, or copy to another local folder, I won't be able t... Read more

Answer:OE: what does "delete" do, depending on "leave a copy on the server"?

OK. Essentially this is how it works with POP3 mail that you are using. When mail is sent to your email address it gets stored in your ISP's mail server. You then connect to that server and download the mail off of the server onto your machine. Once the mail is on your machine, it is no longer left on the ISP's mail server.

That is the default behaviour but can be changed. If you go into your Account/Advanced tab and specify to leave the mail on the server, when you download the mail to your local machine, a copy will still be left on your server.

In both situations if you delete a message from your inbox, it will have no affect whatsoever on the mail on the server and will be deleted.

Now if you want to make it so that you can manage your mail and have the same mail on all computers, specify on each computer that the mail should be left on the server. Then if your ISP has a webmail interface, which almost all do, use that interface to clean up the already received email.

If there is no web interface, then your friend is right and you will need one machine to remove the mail from the server.

With XP's Outlook Express-
When you'd delete email from their Folders, they weren't "completely deleted..." until you Compacted Databases & Reboot (without CD, OE would Not release from backup..., and Bloat...!).
~~~~
Q1?- I now use WLM 2009 POP3/only (I like 2009's GUI, Much better than 2012), and wondered if I needed to regularly Compact Databases for "complete delete...", like I did with OE?
Q2?-If WLM's CD is the same as OE, how often should I schedule CD?
Answer:Does WLM "completely" delete email without "Compact Datadases"?
I also like and use WLM 2009. It depends how your mail accounts are set. My Gmail is archived when accessed by POP, My AOL mail is left on the server.
This is how my settings are.
Files can?t be moved when they?re in use by the operating system or an application. If a file is constantly in use, you can schedule Windows Vista to move the file during startup using the MoveFile tool, which you can download for free.
Use MoveFile exactly like you would use the Move command. For example: movefile file.txt test\file.txt
The file will not be moved immediately. However, the next time the computer is restarted, Windows will move the file. If you want to delete a file that is constantly in use (a common requirement for removing malicious software), provide "" as the destination. For example: movefile file2.txt ""
The same download that includes MoveFile includes the PendMoves command, which displays moves and deletions that have been scheduled. You can simply run the command without parameters, as the following example demonstrates: pendmoves
From the Microsoft Press book Windows Vista Resource Kit, Second Edition.
Answer:Use "MoveFile" and "PendMoves" to Move or Delete a File That is Always in Use
I don't have "Loadwc.exe" in my startup but I have changed it to "DoNotlLoadwc.exe" in windows/system anyway just to be sure. However, everytime I restart or launch IE, the "Loadsens" value in Webcheck resets to "yes". There is something other than "loadwc.exe" that is resetting my webcheck but what is it?
There are no items in my "dial-up settings" and no items checked in LAN settings.
Hi there.
Those are most probably false positives. What files are being detected as such?
When something is labeled "Generic" it means that McAfee doesn't know what it is but that it looks like something else it knows about.
I am running Windows XP SP3, fully updated, on an Acer lap top PC.
I have several folders full of .mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. To do this I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.
The two new columns appear, but the format of the "Duration" column appears to be "hours:minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03" for most .mp3's, when what I want to see is 'hours:minutes:seconds", e.g. "00:03:45".
This also happens for video files (.avi files), e.g. all my episodes of "Heroes" (sad, I know) have a duration of "00:42" instead of "00:42:xx".
Here are two pictures showing the problem with the .mp3's. The first is of Explorer showing the Duration as "Hours:Minutes":
The second picture is of the properties window of the first .mp3 in the list above:
I copied some .mp3 files to another (old) PC on my home network, and it displayed the duration field correctly:
Also, the properties window correctly shows the duration also:
I'm not the only person to have this problem. I received a private message from a member of another forum where I posted about this problem several weeks ago. That person also has the same problem with the duration field.
I really cannot figure out how to do a proper search in Vista.
Is there an option to search for hidden files?
How do I search for a specific file type?
How do I know when a search has finished?
Remember the drop-down box in XP which would give you the option for selecting a specific file type?
Or the fact that a search could be done (no name) to display the entire contents of a folder or drive?
WTF man...
I really don't get this new search system.....
How about the DELETE option, Why is this thing RECYCLING ALL THE TIME.
Why does it take so long to delete something from the drive. (I changed the recycled size limit to only 500mb)
Answer:How does "SEARCH" and / or "DELETE" work in Vista?
1) You need to unhide hidden files in order to search for them, same as XP
2) You can always turn off the recycling bin, or hold down shift and delete, to remove the files right away, same as XP.
Hi,
I recently installed a new ssd and did a fresh install of windows 8.1 on it. I am now using my old hdd as my main data drive in my laptop caddy. My problem is I did not back up my data on my hdd and format it. So I need to delete the "windows" , "program files" and "program files (x86) " folders from that hdd to free up some space.
I understand I have to give ownership to those folders for me to be able to do delete the folders. I have tired the methods suggested by this guide Take Ownership of a File, Folder, Drive, or Registry Key in Windows 8
I tried both of those commands
(To grant currently logged on user ownership of)
takeown /F "full path of folder or drive" /R /D Y
(To grant administrators group ownership of)
takeown /F "full path of folder or drive" /A /R /D Y
and it was succesful, however I still couldn't delete the folders. I would appreciate if anyone could enlighten me.
Answer:Cannot delete "windows" and "program files" from old hdd
A lot is protected by trusted installer. I do that kind of thing with a win7 winpe disc/usb. I have a special driver which ignores permissions and gives complete control.
So I bit the bullet and "upgraded" my laptop from Windows 7 to 10. I expected to find a few things that didn't work anymore, but not so soon as this. I keep it in sync with my desktop PC (running XP) by net-sharing its hard drive, with permission for full control granted to its "administrators" group. I mount it on my desktop PC, where I have the same username and password for my primary administrator account. When it ran Windows 7 this all worked well, but now whenever I try to list or open its files I get "Access is denied." Any ideas?
Interestingly, I still can access the hard drive on my desktop PC while sitting at my laptop. It is only the vice-versa that fails, accessing the hard drive on my laptop PC while sitting at my desktop.
On my laptop, Windows Firewall is "off" for private networks, and it considers my home network to be "private."
From the XP PC, if you open a CMD or Run box and type in \\win10pcname\users\
what do yo get ?
If nothing helpful, create a second user in XP, logon to it
and have the win 10 laptop prompt you for credentials when you retry.
I know it reduces the overall file size of the folder or file in question, but what method does it use to do this?
If you are not familiar with this phrase, it appear if you right-click on a file/folder in windows explorer and select "advanced". When selected the file/folder name will turn blue.
I need to know for some work, I have to compress some work and I could merely show myself using this feature, but explaining how it works would be better.
Thank you
Answer:[SOLVED] What does "Compress Contents To Save Disk Space" do?
This compression method does not reduce the "size" of a folder, it reduced the "size on disk". am I right in thinking that this compression method does not alter the code of any files, it merely stores the folder in a way which saves space on the disk?
Situation:
I am trying to help person A with a programming problem, but I am not able to successfully copy her files to my computer so that I can leisurely fix her problem from my computer. What is weird is that the files appear to be copied (I can see a file with the unique name person A gave to it)but I can not see their contents.
Details:
Both person A and I have an electronic sign creating application called LedArt. It is found in the public domain. The application has many supporting files all found within subfolders within a folder named, LedArt. she has previously created instructions to create one sign. Those instructions are found in an application data file called screen3.boo which is stored in a LedArt subfolder named "work". I verified its location. When she calls up that specific file from a running LedArt application, I can see the choices she has made. I can see the text, images, and video that she has chosen to display.
I would like to copy her screen3.boo job over to my computer and run it. So she dragged and dropped her entire LedArt folder up to my onedrive cloud account. on my laptop running w10, I then tried running her screen3.boo from my application. I do not see any data in screen3.boo.
So...in summary.....it appears as if all the files and folders are copied but the contents are not or the contents are not available to me for some reason.
This is mysterious to me. We checked folder and file permissions. I failed to check owner... Read more
Hi guys,
I'm really worried about my Vista system. I recently had a hard drive die and I had backups of only some of the material - and now i go and open files and randomly some of them will have been corrupted. The sizes are still the same, but the contents have been replaced with whitespace. I lost 8GB of family photos this way and it's driving me crazy!
I also noticed NOD32 version 3 icon is red, it says "Maximum protection is not ensured", the update tab says "Undocumented serious error (0x101a)" and there are lots of entries in the log file of "Update Undocumented serious error (0x%04x) NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM".
Also I'm having a "Windows - No Disk" error which says "Exception Processing Message 0xc0000013 Parameters 0x75D6023C 0x8543CCBC 0x75D6023C 0x75D6023C".
I really don't know where to start. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Adam Dullenty
Answer:Random files contents being replaced with whitespace, NOD32 "undocumented error"!
I'm guessing the fact this hasn't been looked at is because I didn't include a HijackThis log. I'll get round to that later.
Now, things are worse - I can't easily browse the web as pages load up SO SLOWLY, instant messaging services rarely connect - interestingly DC++ and BitTorrent are fine, no problems.
I've eliminated possible username/password/general license problems with NOD32 by uninstalling and installing the 30 day full trial. Same errors.
I'm really hoping someone can help me out here, I have no space to back anything up and really need to be able to use the machine normally for university work.
Thanks again,
Adam
Hi,
WHAT I DID--------
I have a .docx document which has two headings: AAAA and DDDD.
I need to convert this .docx file into htmlHelp.
I converted the .docx file into .htm fromat(MyManual1.htm).
Added this .htm file into htmlHelp project.
Used the option of "automatically create contents file when compiling".
On compiling, the contents are auto-generated as AAAA and DDDD.
The auto-generated contents are displaying the whole document, instead of showing their respective location in that document, on being clicked.
Hi everyone . I have a problem with the Visual Effects in Windows 7 and I hope you can help me.
My computer does not show contents of windows, diaglog boxes... when I drag them. Look like this figure:
Then I verify the visual effects settings in Performance Options box (System Properties > Advanced system settings > tab Advanced > click Settings under Performance > tab Visual Effects):
-> Note that I have the option "Show window contents while dragging" checked all the time by selecting "Adjust for best appearance".
To let it show the contents, I have to do these:
1. Uncheck "Show window contents while dragging". Click Apply.
2. Select "Adjust for best appearance" again (or check "Show window contents while dragging" again) then click Apply.
Then the result looks like this:
But... , when I restart my computer, or shutdown and then start it again, the problem is still: it does not show the contents of dialog boxes or windows when I drag them although the option "Show window contents while dragging" is checked.
I was crazy with this. I don't know whether this is caused by software conflicts or something else . Could you help me to solve this problem, please ? I thank you very much for your help .
I use the USB cable to transfer photos from my digital camera to the computer. Is there a way to put "Display Contents in Folder" on the list of actions (Always Use This Action) to take when a camera connects? I'm thinking if I can just get it on that list, then I can put a checkmark in Always Take This Action.
Maybe what I'm thinking of is for things like opening devices, opening dvds, playing cds,etc. Actions include "Take No Action," showing a red universal "No" symbol. Open With Windows Media Player is another entry. A yellow folder is the symbol used for Display Contents In Folder.
The pic shows the sorts of choices that are on my list when a camera is detected.
Answer:"Display Contents in Folder" - digital camera
Don't know if it's the same as what you want to do, but when I hook up my camera (HP Photosmart) with the USB cable, there's a setting in the camera itself that controls how it looks to the computer. One choice is to have it show as another drive.
Answer:download error says"cannot change contents of folder"
I've seen this problem on my Win 7 machine often and what is happening on my end is the desktop folder is being locked by an application, in my case uTorrent. I grab an .iso for some Linux distro I want to play with and leave it running. Shutting down uTorrent doesn't drop the lock from the desktop folder.
You can do the same for any folder you have and see if something is locking it. In my experience, folders so locked by some applications display the behavior you're seeing and downloads are prevented while they are locked.
What I do to correct my situation is use Unlocker as below...
On my last C: defrag, partway through the process, the message, Drive Contents Changed, Restarting, appeared on the screen. The Defrag scale promptly returned to zero and the whole process of checking and rewriting started all over again. This happened a total of 6 times at varying percentages of the defrag process. The defrag did complete, but took roughly 2-3 times as long as it should've. What would cause this message to appear? How do I solve whatever the issue, assuming there is one, is the cause of this message? Please Advise.
Just built a new system and upon viewing my Mp3 folder all the files and folders within are viewed as Tiles. Right now i just go to view then click list for each folder and its contents manually.
Having quite alot of Mp3's i'd be here for a while doing it this way... is there any quick way to have a folder's contents all viewed as "List"?
TIA
Answer:Viewing entire contents of folder as "List"
The assumption is you're running XP here sooo...
Just set a folder the way you want it to look (Details, List, etc) then change the Folder Options so all folders will reflect that change. If it doesn't stick, and for folders that have Folder Tasks enabled (Music, Pictures, Videos, etc), it most likely won't so your only real solution becomes disabling Folder Tasks all together and going back to the Classic look.
ps
After posting this I see another assumption is in order: you may not know how to do what I just suggested.
Run Explorer, browse to a folder with content where you just want the List view - just one folder, regardless of content, and change the View to List right then and there. Click Tools - Folder Options - change the Tasks selection to "Use Windows classic folders" if you want to disable that aspect (recommended). If not, click Apply to all folders and then click Apply, then click OK and that should be that.
If you encounter a "stubborn" folder that simply refuses to change, do the same procedure again above but starting off in that troublesome folder to begin with.
Hope this helps...
I am helping my son with his 30 page State report. Here's my problem, since for some reason I can not get my printer to scan the pages so we can answer (type in) the questions on the page that I scanned, I decided to just type the pages myself in MS Word 2003. On the "Table of Contents" page (think of a book), I can get the words on the left side lined up, but what I want to do is put in those little dots that lead to the page number on the right hand side, but I want the page numbers lines up to, how do I line them up? Thanks
Answer:trying to make a "table of contents" using MS word 2003
Put the cursor where you want the TOC to start. Then go to Insert>Reference>Index and Tables. Select the Table of Contents tab. Check the box to right align page numbers, pick the type of tab leader you want, and click OK.
Hi everybody!
I am using a Dell Studio 1555 that has Windows 7 and is a x64 system. It had recently gotten a virus and deleted the anti virus program I had on the computer. I downloaded SUPERAntiSpyware onto a jumpdrive and ran it on the computer. It detected a few problems and I fixed them. I did not save the log of what it found though, sorry about that. I thought the problem was fixed so I went to reinstall AVG antivirus. However, when it finished downloading and I clicked on it to start the install, I get this message:
"Unable to extract the setup contents. If you want to continue the setup or update process, make sure you have the Administrator rights. (can not create temp folder archive)"
I don't know what to do after this, the account I am on is set as Administrator. I have CCleaner, and I ran that, thinking the amount of stuff in the Downloads file (well over 1 GB) might have prevented it from opening, but with no luck. I have also tried right-clicking the file and selecting "Run as Administrator", and that did not work.
Now all I have to do is transfer the files from the old user account to the new one and I should be golden.
Thanks for all the help!
Hello,
I'm having a bit of a weird issue with track changes showing some author names and not others, apparently without regard to the document settings:
Doc was originally created in Word 2007; the "Remove personal information from file properties on save" box is UNCHECKED and grayed out.
I am using Word 2010. When I make changes or comments, my name shows up as the author and this information is successfully saved with the file. Others are able to see my name as the author.
My colleague is using Word 2007. When he makes changes or comments and hits save, he shows up as "%USERNAME%" (but my name stays on my comments). I have checked his settings and the "Remove personal info" box is UNCHECKED and grayed out.
Is this some sort of compatibility issue between Word 2007 and Word 2010? Something else? Any ideas? Any help is appreciated.
Also, in case it matters, I and my colleague are both using Windows 7.
My office just upgraded, and I can no longer use Windows XP. On this system, I was able to add a separate taskbar to facilitate quick access to commonly-browsed folder locations on our vast network, and another one expedited the launching of useful programs and lists. Each task on each taskbar was represented with a big custom icon to save eye strain. I had them installed in opposite vertical margins, and they were set on auto-hide to keep them out of the way when not being used. Just move your mouse pointer to the left or right margin, and BAM! Sorry for the cliche, but I really got used to the convenience of what I had set up, and I just don't think I can be as efficient without anything comparable.
Now there appears to be nothing comparable in the Windows 7 GUI, and it's making me sick with rage! I see only the option to put a "toolbar" on an existing "taskbar", and no option to create any additional taskbars! This cramps up your one-and-only taskbar, plus the tiny toolbar access buttons require way too much precision for anything that's supposed to be quick. When you've figured out how to bring up that ridiculous button, the list that it yields is small enough to cause painful eyestrain - nothing efficient, much less cool about this at all! I have seen customization options in other OS GUIs that may have resolved some of these issues, but I see none such in W7.
I have tried every google search string that I can think of, and found... Read more
Hi,
When our website users click on an html attachment embedded on a web-page in IE9, the download manager will not display the "Open" option. It will only display "Save" and "Cancel" which our users don't like, having to save the
html document in a folder to open it. Whereas, when downloading attachments like pdf, word etc. all three options are displayed.
Is there any setting to tweak , which will display all the 3 options for HTML attachments as well?
Answer:IE9 download manager will not display "Open" option (only "Save" and "Cancel" is displayed) for downloading HTML documents.
Hi,
As you know, the Open-Save-Cancel dialog box helps you prevent your computer from affecting by virus while downloading.
So I suggest you test to reset all zones to a lower level temporarily and then please attempt to download this html attachment again.
However, since you can normally download the other documents, I suspect there is some restriction in the website which you are trying to view. I recommend you to contact the administrator of that website if possible.
could you please send me the link of the website from where you are trying to download the html attachment?
Thanks!
I want to use Find and Replace to delete all the links in a document. All the links are as text (e.g. http://...). I don't mean that the word Yahoo is a link to http://www.yahoo.com.
I want to use wild cards to select the Whole link.
I thought find http://* would select it all, but it only selects the http:// part of the whole link.
I have checked the Use Wildcards checkbox.
How do I select the whole link so that I can replace it with a blank space?
I'm using Word 2003.
Answer:Delete all links, delete all that begin w/ http: | "Find and Replace" Help
Try using something like this in your search field for Replace:
http:?*?*****************************
Edit:Oh, you are in Word - what I suggested works in Excel.
In Word, you will have to do something like this:
(http:????????????????) - but that will only find names that are 21 characters long that start with "http:". If you have one that is 20 characters long, you will need to remove one question mark, then another, then another....
e.g., to find http://www.google.com you need "http:" followed by 16 "?" but to find http://www.yahoo.com you need "http:" followed by 15 "?".
It might be easier to export your data to Excel (if it is in a table, at least) and do the work there.
So I went into Knowbrainer forum where they gave me the advice below, but no idea what to do next when in Folder Options View as it's already set to show hidden files and folders so don't where to find the contents and delete them ? Also I unfortunately don't have a DVD to re-install it all again as I'd downloaded it direct.
Really appreciate any help....
Thanks
"Try saving your user profile again. If it fails to save on the 2nd try, delete the contents of your C:\ProgramData\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking12\Users\(your username)tb folder and reattempt saving your user profile. This should take care of the problem but note that you cannot access this folder unless you change Windows Explorer default options to view hidden files and folders."
Answer:Trying to find contents in "Folder" ?
With show hidden files and folders shown that should be there.
You could also manually go to run and type in the path
A few days ago, everything worked just fine.
But, then, I went on a 4 days vacation with my family... when I got back...
Whenever opening "my computer" it takes about 25 seconds to load. Winrar archives take hell of a time to open. Even "Paint" takes ages to open.
I mean, my computer has quadcore Q6600 @ 2.4GHz... this shouldn't freaking happen.
I've googled this crap a few times... They all talk about (WIA) which is already disabled on my PC. They also talk about unchecking "Automatically search for network folders and printers" in the "Folder Options"... Which I have already done and hasn't solved the problem.
Help please?
Answer:Problem with "My Computer" and contents.
have you looked in event viewer to see if there's a bunch of errors?
when I had this problem, it was due to my ide controller crapping out, causing a ton of data corruption, very very slow decompressing/compressing of archives, etc.
I use the search box from the start button alot. The searching works great, but when I click on one of results the box is gone. So if I want to go back and look at one of the other results, I have to go back and type in the search box again to see the same results...how do I get the contents to "persist" so I don't have to repeat this to view another result? thanks
Answer:how do you get the contents from the seach box to "persist"
Hello Jardis, and welcome to Seven Forums.
You could save the search to preserve the search results to view when you like without having to perform a new search. The tutorial below can help show you more on how to.
I cannot seem to get this "Personal Guard 2009" off of my PC. I've ran Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware, both found files containing "PG2009" and deleted/quarantined them, after rebooting the PC, the "PG2009" starts right back up. Here is my log, any help would be greatly appreciated as I have been looking for quite some time on how to resolve this issue and finally came across this great site, thank you in advance.
I'm running Windows XP Home Edition (SP1 I believe). When i go to log on to either of the screennames on the computer, both admin, one password protected, it hangs for several minutes on "Loading your personal settings..."
It loads eventually, but when it does the hard drive makes an audible grunting sound and the desktop loads up normal except for the taskbar. Most programs work properly (at least through the desktop shortcuts that I have), however Windows Media Player refuses to even load at all, and the only way I can get to my documents is through My Computer, however I am unable to open anything in any folders that aren't .exe files. Pictures, videos, pretty much any media is unresponsive and it seems that only .txt files will open.
I have tried to open windows in safe mode, but the taskbar still doesn't open and it is EXTREMELY slow, with the same side effects as stated before.
Now, i most situations, I would simply borrow a reformat disc from a friend, but I'd rather not lose all of my music and videos.
If possible, I need to get this issue sorted out extremely quickly, as I'm lacking on some fairly important files on that computer. Any other details I can give, just ask and I'll see what I can do. Open to suggestions, pretty much anything logical.
Answer:Login hangs on "Loading your personal settings..." loads after a few minutes, but...
You should give us your computer specs in case the problem involves one specific hardware. You did mention you're hearing grunting sounds on load up which sounds as if your hard drive maybe on the brink. Have a look at the following link it may help solve your problem http://pcsupport.about.com/od/nonwor.../hdnoisetb.htm.
Im getting a really annoying problem where my computer will get as far as "loading your personal settings" screen and basically hang up.
I had a virus infection just recently which i cleaned up. A few days later my computer started doing this. It boots up normally until it gets to the "loading your personal settings" screen then it will not go any further.
The mouse responds and there is hard disk activity but nothing happens. I also don't get the windows start-up sound. It will do this probably 9 times out of ten. When it does boot up all the way it works fine and runs perfectly. I had it running for 3 days without any problems.
Some more info:I have tried unplugging the computer from my router, this had no apparent effect.
The computer will boot up fine every time in safe mode & safe mode with networking
I have disabled everything in the start-up apart from AVG FREE edition. This has not had any apparent effect
I ran a check-disk last night and it found no errors.
when it hangs up, ctrl+alt+del does not work, alt+tab also does not do anything
I have downloaded the latest AVG setup file and ran a repair install, this had no apparent effect
I haven't ran system file checker since as the system works fine in safe mode i assume that the system files are probably fine.
i had avast on the system but it got really screwed up so in the end i used the avast uninstall tool to remove it.
I currently have left it sitting at "loading your persona... Read more
If you have lots of e-mails this process can take quite some time to finish (it takes almost an hour on my PC if this happens). It might be worth leaving for a little while and see if it kicks back in to life
You could also try the Inbox Repair Tool, which is called SCANPST.EXE and located on your Office folder. If you have Office 2007 then it's probably in "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12". It might be worth backing up your e-mails before running this though, just in case.
Alright, this issue stems from a bizarre Outlook 2003 "feature" (bug?). My setup looks something like this:
Personal Folders
|
+ - Archive
|
+ - Inbox
|
+ - Sent Items
|
...
Sometimes, instead of dragging an email to "Archive", I accidentally drag it to "Personal Folders". Outlook allows this, strangely, and the email is then stored in the "Personal Folders" folder rather than the one I wanted. But, if I click "Personal Folders" in an effort to view the hidden email, Outlook takes me to the "Outlook today" screen.
I know there is a way to un-hide these emails because I've done it before: my question is how? Googling is difficult because using the words "Personal Folders" results in a bunch of irrelevant hits since the context I'm using it in is different from the normal use of the term.
Thanks for any insights!
I have had a problem with a friends Computer i have been trying to fix (you will find another thread titled 000000x24 error) and i have "finally" been able to access the repair menu after booting from the OS CD which gives me the option (I tried repair, didn't work) of a Complete System Restore.
My question is "will" Complete System Restore "overwrite" all of the personal or additional information added by the user on the hard drive, such as photo's, music...etc... or will it do the restore without affecting anything else?
And oh yes, the OS on the machine is Windows Vista Basic, but my friend doesn't have the original disc it came with so i am using my Windows Vista Ultimate CD to do this, will this matter at all when doing a Repair or System restore or does it need to be the exact same version in this instance?
Answer:Will "Complete System Restore" Overwrite Personal Files?
Chances are that it will. Some of them try to save copies of the files in a folder at the root of the drive, but there should be backups, anyway. Any file without at least 2 backup copies is one you do not want to keep.
Just move the personal files elsewhere before the restoration. There are a number of boot CD's that can do that, including Parted Magic disk partitoning tool (Bootable CD image), which also has recovery and other tools that you may find useful later.
I am infected with this crap and have used the following tools to try to get rid of it:
Windows Defender, Unible PowerSuite (SpeedUpMyPC, Registry Booster & Spyware Protector) and Norton's One Button Checkup and WinDoctor.
Not sure if it's related, but my DISPLAY is locked at 640 X 480.
Atempted the 5 Step Process before posting and Panda ActiveScan froze and crashed after scanning 59253 files, but not before identifying 28 spyware files.
Hey TSG,
STATISTICS:
Windows XP SP2 with all updates
MS Office 2003 with all updates
Windows is set up with 3 user profiles - error only occurs on "administrator"
PC appears to be clean: I run SPYBOT and AdAware regularly, and CCleaner and Registry Mechanic occasionally. I use fully updated Trend Micro PC-cillin Virus Protection and firewall.
PROBLEM:
For no apparent reason, when I open Outlook I get the message "Data file 'Personal Folders' was not closed properly. The file is being checked for problems" .....pause
...and then Outlook closes. (NOTE: any recommended solution that requires Outlook to be open cannot be applied). I have researched the Web forums and one suggestion was that the .pst file is too large. I back up the .pst file every night and last night's file was 352 meg which does not seem to be too big.
HELP!
Thanks,
kurley
PS: I can get e-mail on-line
Answer:Outlook 2003 - Error "Data File 'Personal Folders' was not closed properly"
Well the good news is that your .pst file is not too large... the maximum limit for previous versions of office .pst files was 2 GB... usually corruption occurs before this point though (post 1.5 GB is about the point where it becomes prominent), and with the new office 2003 4TB is the theoretical limit of your PST files.
One thing to try... move the location (into another folder) of your .pst file, so that the association of the outlook and the pst file is broken... see if this allows you to open outlook... if so try to remap to the .pst file in its new location, close outlook and see if the issue has been resolved or if it fails to open again.
If you are able to open outlook (with the pst disconnected) and the previous step has failed try using the import/export function and see if you can import your .pst file from the old (corrupted one) to a new one...
There are utilities out there that are able to check the integrity of .pst files, but right at the moment... it escapes me as to which are the recommended scanners.
Other suggestions are welcome...
From what I can find on this subject, it seems to be an old problem, but I can't find an answer I can use. I have a Dell desktop, running Windows XP Home, and just two days ago I got the problem where it will let me sign into my account (I only have one set up) but it hangs at "loading personal settings". I tried to do load up in Safe Mode but the same thing happens - and I left it on (both times) overnight and nothing happened. I don't know what else to do short of reformatting and reinstalling Windows.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Howdy! I'm happy to have found this outstanding community. I have a very superficial question, but I would love it if I could find a solution.
I'm trying to customize my netbook's startup; it uses XP sp3. I've already changed to boot screen (with the progress bar). I also changed the background displayed at the login/welcome screen.
I was all happy, thinking that I had completely changed everything, but when I restarted, there is still an ugly blue "loading your personal settings" screen that comes up after the welcome screen.
Does anyone know how to change the appearance of this screen or the registry values associated with it? I deeply appreciate your time.
James
Hello
Most of the time my XP Pro Sp2 system freezes upon booting and will not get past the "Loading Your Personal Settings" screen. I can do a hard restart two or three times and encounter the same thing. However, I can boot into the desktop in Safe Mode, and when I restart after that everything is normal.
I'm booting into an administrator account, using the welcome screen with no password, and loading very little upon startup, basically Norton AV and Firewall, that's it.
No virii, no spyware, no trojans, etc. All hardware diagnostics perfect.
I've searched the internet for hours and found nothing.
Thanks!
I have Dell -- XP -- 300 GB hard disk with 150 GB free. I had Office 2002 but was having so many problems with MS Outlook that I finally gave in and bought and installed Office 2007 this weekend. One of the problems I had with Outlook 2002 was the error message '"Personal Folders" was not closed properly.' About 2 weeks after getting this message every time I entered Outlook 2002 it quit sending and receiving messages completely. So, I switched to Outlook Express.I have a huge number of emails. I need them! Deleting them is not the answer. I found out that Office 2002 will only handle 1.6 GB of emails or 16,383 emails. I am close to that number.  Office 2007 can handle 20GB of emails. This is the main reason I went ahead and made the switch. I installed Outlook 2007 this weekend. I still get this same message every time I enter Outlook. So, my questions for this post:  What does this mean? What is causing it? Why would it be in both Office 2002 and Office 2007?   Will Office 2007 possibly just quit sending/receiving emails like Office 2002 did? What can I do?I use PCcillin virus and firewall, and CCleaner. Any help will be appreciated.
Everytime I import the "pst" or Personal Folders file for Outlook 2003 from another computer that I have, to update, it inevitably creates a NEW "Personal Folder" file, that shows on the right hand side.
I now have 4 "Personal Folders" files! It takes forever to import now, because it imports 4 of everything!...INbox, Outbox, Sent Items, etc.
How do I import the pst file,without it creating a whole new set of folders (inbox, outbox, sent items, etc) under yet another "Personal Folders" heading?
Thanks!
