How can I turn the volume off in a game I am playing without lowering my notifications volume?

Question: How can I turn the volume off in a game I am playing without lowering my notifications volume?

When I play games, I tend to volume right down to get rid of the music etc,
but this also turns down the volume for notifications and then I don;t hear them.
Is there any way to control these volumes separately ?

Preferred Solution: How can I turn the volume off in a game I am playing without lowering my notifications volume?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: How can I turn the volume off in a game I am playing without lowering my notifications volume?

Most games I've seen have an option to turn off music/effects within the game itself. Meaning you could hush them, but keep your notifications at whatever volume.

Hello everyone! I run Windows 8.1, and have been having a strange issue lately. A reformat and fresh install did nothing to help this.

Seemingly at random, in my volume mixer, specific programs will drop to 10% level. If I turn the volume all the way back up, it'll only go back down a bit later. I've tried this with / without my realtek drivers. Also, I've set the option under "Communications" in playback devices to "Do nothing", and this still hasn't helped. Any VoIP programs I use I've turned off ducking, and yet the problem still persists.

Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you!

I have had my HP Pavillion for just short of two months with no issues. Last night while watching a video I noticed that the sound lowers on it's own until its almost completely mute. It doesn't matter is I put the sound full blast or not, it will gradually lower itself until I can hardly hear it. This doesn' happen with headphones, though. It is just the system's built in speakers. Advice would be appreciated.

I've been trying to fix this all day and it's driving me insane. It's as if the "lower volume" button on my keyboard is pushed constantly, however the problem continues even if I unplug my keyboard.
I've tried re installing audio drivers, running virus scans, and I've restarted the computer multiple times. Anyone have any ideas?

Answer:Volume from speakers lowering on it's own

Hi, Try the following. Download the Realtek HD Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp75501-76000/sp75983.exe When done, hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the Realtek device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When complete, restart the notebook. When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the Realtek installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again and let windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K

On my friend's hp laptop, windows keeps lowering the master volume levels down to 0. You can open the volume control panel from the taskbar, and click it up to normal levels (dragging won't work). But it -immediately- begins sliding back down, as if someone were slowly clicking the volume down with a mouse or with key presses. The sound does work while the volume is turned up, but it doesn't do me much good if it just reverts iteself to a muted level after a second and a half.

I've uninstalled/reinstalled sound card drivers, mouse/touchpad drivers, and checked to see if the volume keys are pressed down. Gone into the sound properties, reset everything to default. Installed all the critical windows updates. Scanned for viruses, run adaware, run spybot search&destroy.

It's all clean, there's no suspicious processes running.

I'm stumped.

Anyone else have any ideas?

I have a pavilion x360 that the sound will not work on. In fact you cannot unmute the speakers, every time you do the volume level just lowers itself until the sound is muted. I had Windows 8.1 on it so I thought I would do the Windows 10 upgrade and see if that helped. Nope, same thing. I downloaded the latest realtec drivers from HP's website and uninstalled the old drivers first and still nothing. I tried disabling the realtec card and just use the PC speakers option and it worked one time but after a reboot it went right back to muting the sound again. I wonder if anyone else has had this issue and if anyone has found a cure or at least a work around?

How do I stop volume of background applications from lowering when I play a game?

Whenever I start a skype call or want to play a game with voice chat, the volume of background applications instantly drops by a significant amount. This is annoying because I want to listen to music while I game and it's just not possible like this.

A quick Google search suggests that this is a common Windows 7 "feature":

audio - Windows 7 lowers applications' volume automatically - Super User

I have applied the fix suggested in the article (Change settings to "do Nothing" when Windows detects communication activity) but this did not work. Any ideas why? I am running a Thinkpad T530 laptop and I have a Realtek sound card.

Answer:How to stop volume of background applications from lowering...

Since you have already changed your sound setting to "do nothing" open up Skype and disable both settings in Skype under tools->sound settings, that says "let Skype configure your microphone" & "automaticly change speaker settings" to my knowledge that should work

Hi, this has been a problem that has pestered me for a couple of years and many different microphones now. If I speak too loudly, or for too long (say, if I'm speaking for more than 5 seconds) then the volume will automatically be lowered. This is incredibly annoying as I use Skype to chat and stream to Twitch TV, and have to keep stopping so windows will "reset" the volume back up to normal so I can continue to speak.

I have already disabled auto adjust on Skype, but as I just explained, it also happens when streaming to Twitch.

Help on this issue is greatly appreciated.

The OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit.

I am having what appears to be two major issues with my Windows XP 32-bit machine which seem to be related in some way. After having the computer booted in normal mode for several minutes or longer, often times some programs will not load. I check in Task Manager and it shows that the program is running but no GUI comes up for the program. This has happened with Internet Explorer, Raidcall, Skype, Windows Volume Control, and possibly other programs I can't think of at the moment. When I was having the issue with opening IE, I was still able to work in Firefox and Chrome. However, I tried using Windows Live Outlook Webmail (live.com e-mail) to send an e-mail message and the new window popped up but would not display anything in it (it had the loading icon continuously but did not load). I tried it both through Chrome and Firefox.

Also, often times my windows wave volume bar is getting set to the lowest setting. It seems to occur when going into a game or opening another program. I have to go into the volume control and bring it back up to hear any sound. It happens very frequently and I'm unsure what may be causing the issue. The two issues seem to be related because they began occurring at about the same time.
I've tried running a MalwareBytes scan which only seemed to find some type of adware file that it removed. I have AVG Free installed as my antivirus program.

I have been having issues every time I log into normal mode lately. I've tried a few instances... Read more

Hello everyone,

First of all, this is my first post on the Windows 8 forums, I've had this laptop for 3 weeks now and for the most part, I'm starting to get used to 8.1. However, there are still a few problems that make me feel terribly powerless.

For one, whenever I plug in my headphones, the sound neatly comes out of them. However, I want to be able to put some of the sound on the headphones and some on the speakers. This is not possible, for the simple reason that the system does not recognize my headphones. It still tells me I am using speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio), while I have headphones plugged in and sound coming through them. Is there anything I can do about this? (I tried updating some drivers, they were apparently all up to date...)

An even worse problem is the following. Whenever my computer detects a communications device, it cuts the volume of all other applications to 20%. Now, before someone comes with the obvious 'Control Panel -> Sound -> Communications -> 'Do nothing' -> apply -> fixed', I already did this and still it happens. It happens with Skype, but it also happens with games I play and it even happens when I just go to 'Recording Devices'. Anytime the computer realises my microphone is being used, it lowers my sound, and I do not know what to do about it. Is there anyone who can help me with this?

Thanks in advance for either problem,
Mithra

Answer:Lowering sound volume and detecting headphone problems!

First, to have both the headphones and speaker at the same time. Many RealTek HD Audio Manager panels (found in Control Panel/Hardware and Sound) have an option to either mute the speakers or not mute them when a headset is plugged in. This is found in the "Device Advanced Settings", if your PC Vendor included this. If you do not have this option, you may be out of luck as some PC vendors have customized sound configurations.

Not showing the headphones, is not an issue since it is working properly.

Third, reducing volume may be a function of some running software application, such as Skype, or games and not a "problem" with the PC. However, one issue in the Recording section, normally the "Stereo Mix" is set as the default recording device, rather than an individual device, such as a microphone. In addition, you need Stereo Mix if you ever want to record audio from the internet. If the Stereo Mix is not set as default recording device, and it is shown enable it and make it the default. If it is not shown (and many PC vendors initially have it hid), RIGHT click in a blank area in the Recording Panel and then click to show "disabled" and "disconnected" devices. Stereo Mix should now show and you can enable it. This may or may not resolve the low volume.

Basically when I listen to music through foobar2000, winamp, any audio player, windows sort of regulates my volume if any other program makes a sound. System sound rings? Music volume lowers. Watching a video on youtube or any other service, music volume lowers, playing a game? Music lowers.

This problem has persisted through 2 entirely new computers, the only thing remaining consistent is my AV receiver. 2 different brand video cards as well (monitor is hooked into receiver hdmi out, and then video card goes into receiver hdmi input) so both AMD and Nvidia have done this to me so far. I don't recalled if this was an issue before the receiver, it's been way too long.

It was also like this in W7 and now W10.

I find it weird that this isn't a problem when I use headphones. Only my receiver. I've never had this happen with any other component though (blu ray player, ps4, xbox1 , 360, etc). I've also listened to music on those devices and played a game or w/e and it doesn't happen.

It really seems like a windows issue or driver problem, I don't understand how it can't be fixed.

Usually these are the go to things -

The BenQ is the monitor connecting to the receiver, other is my headset.
So I figured I'd ask for help here, there's entire articles dedicated to selecting "Do Nothing" in the Sound Communications tab to stop this problem. Getting tired of reading them.

Thanks!

I'm not sure if this happened with 5.55, but with 5.56, when I hit the volume up or down on my keyboard to turn the sound down for everything, it turns down winamp's volume bar too. Sometimes I can move winamp's volume bar up and down and it won't even be working. What causes this? So I have a Blue Yeti, and I'm an online animator/voice actor. Whenever I record audio on my Blue Yeti (OR any other mic) I record about 4-6 inches from the mic, and turn the gain down enough that the audio doesn't peak as I yell or whatever. This is what you're supposed to do if you don't want your audio levels peaking and making your recording sound horrible and corrupted. However, afterwards, it means I have really quite recordings. Not a problem right? Now that it's recorded right, I can boost the volume of the entire clip afterwards right? WRONG. I'm not an audio expert so I must be missing something. But why in GODS NAME would the audio distort and peak AFTER it's recorded successfully? It's all there, it's all clean audio. If I turn the volume on my speakers all the way up it sounds CRYSTAL CLEAR! All I want to do is do that INSIDE the computer so that when I upload it to youtube people don't have to turn their speakers so far up. But if I increase the clips volume in the computer, it distorts! It sounds awful! Why?! I tried in Sony Acid and Audacity and they both do the same thing! Why?! I seriously don't understand what I'm missing here! I can take sound effects, and recordings made by other producers and crank them up nice and loud, but mine just fall apart! If anyone understands audio stuff, please tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Answer:Soft Recording volume with Blue Yeti, increasing volume distorts audio

I have a home recording studio using Sonar X1 software.

I don't know about Acid, but it should allow clean recordings. Audacity the same way.

I record, generally, in the -10 level with my recording program, at 24 bits/44.1 Khz. At -10, I have plenty of headroom and can then adjust the levels after the recordings and at mixdown. I export the mix as a standard 16 bit/44.1Khz wav file and then "finalize" whatever I want to do to the song, including levels, with "Goldwave" (an audio editior).

I assume you are converting the audio to MP3? If that is the case, that may be where the distortion is occuring? I find that 128Kb MP3's are very poor and at a minimum use 198 Kb MP3's.

Hello,

On my newly purchased Pro A200/PSAE7 the (hardware) volume control - front side, right from speaker plug - turns endless and when using it the volume does not change "smooth" - more "abrupt". Because of this there is no "fine tuning" possible.

Many thanks for any reply in advance!

This on is quite perplexing to me. This is stemming from a volume problem that I had posted before. I have more detail and have narrowed down the problem but not the cause of such. When ever I click the volume control in winamp, not adjust necessarily, just click, my wave setting in my volume control (pannel that comes up by double clicking the speaker in the tray) drops. Of course this affects my overall volume. It is sparatic and does not drop the same amount two times in a row but will drop everytime I click volume in winamp. I am running winXP pro and have not installed so much as an update since the last time this was happening. The only thing I did change is I set up voice recognition in Office XP but I was having this problem before that. I have uninstalled and cleaned out all winamp files and reinstalled. Any suggestions? Winamp is the only player of any kind that this currently happens with.

Also, whenever I am using winamp to play an mp3 or streaming audio and I open another program, any program, or even just minimize/maximize a window, the audio starts cracking. This also has never happend before except of course when there is a heavy load on the system. As I said I am running XP pro, and FYI a Duron 900 cpu and 448MB RAM. As I am having these problems I am using 5% to 10% of my cpu and have 21000k physical memory availible according to task mgr.

Thanks.

Hi all,

I have Toshiba Portege M800, and I have a problem with the volume wheel.
If I try to increase or decrease the volume by this volume wheel, it will change, but the volume not change linear.

For example, when I increase volume from 0 to something, volume is changed, during rolling, e.g. from 0-1-2-3-4-5-3-8-6 (thats just an example).

Why doesn't it change linear, e.g. 0-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 ?
Is it caused by software or it is hardware problem?

Could I claim the goods?

Thanks.

Answer:Portege M800 - volume wheel issue - volume level jumps

Hi

I have had a similar issue with the volume level on my Satellite notebook.
I tired everything; updated the BIOS, sound driver? I have also reinstalled my OS using the Roecvery disk but I didn?t notice any improvements.

Finally my ASP technician checked the volume wheel and cleaned the contacts and removed some dust.
This was the key?
The dirt affected the volume wheel functionality?

In my cases this helped but this does not mean that this will help you as well.
I think you should also update the BIOS and should check if you could update the sound driver.
If this will not help then it would be recommended to contact the ASP technician for opinion?

Actually it was not working when I installed xp first time 2 years back, but I re-installed my sound driver or hotkeys or something else (which I don?t remember) and then it worked.
Now I did almost everything but still not working.

Anyone can suggest something?

Answer:Qosmio F20 - volume display bar not visible when I increase/decrease volume

Did you install the newest driver and BIOS from the Toshiba website?
Check this: http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com

Give me a reason what happened?

But I have another question/problem. The icon of the speaker regulator doesn?t pop up on my display when I regulate the volume.

Can you help me there too?

Excused my bad English
I hope you understand me :)

Answer:Satellite A200:Volume icon don't pop up on display when I change the volume

Hello

Sorry but who says that volume regulator should pop up? This regulator will pop up just if you click on small volume symbol placed in task bar.
Moving volume control dial nothing will be shown, just the small icon will be changed and show one, two or three small lines depending on volume level.

My Windows 7 was installed in Drive C: in Primary partition.

I only have another drive D:, which is also a Primary partition and 200GB in size.

I need to create another drive. So, I use 'Shrink Volume' on Drive D: and free 30GB.

Then 30GB become free space and when I right click on that, I choose to 'Simple Volume' and then format it as NTFS and assign the drive letter E:. All of a sudden after I did that, all the partitions(C: and D now no longer say "Primary Partition". The blue color on top of the partitions also changed to a yellow/brownish color. My guess is that they have been converted to a Simple Volume too.

Well, then I just restart my PC and astonished that my windows 7 can't load. Only a blank screen come ahead to me. No error message given.

I use my Windows 7 DVD and in repair windows section, I use command line and by 'diskpart', i found, my all partition (C: and D: and E present their and there file system is: 'NTFS' and Type is "Simple". No drive there marked as a 'System' or 'boot'.

What should I do now, to recover my Windows 7?

Any kind of help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,
Windows XP Home
RealPlayer 10.5

Ok, I used to have RealPlayer and all it's junk till I wised up
and removed it from my system over a year ago.

However, I recently installed the basic RealPlayer (that is...only allowing
the features that I needed for video/audio) in order to watch NASA TV
e.g. DEEP IMPACT and today's DISCOVERY launch.

My question is regarding why, when I mute or adjust the volume on
the RealPlayer, that it also does the same to the computer's Volume
Control (Speaker Icon in System Tray...Wave setting).

I had been viewing on the RealPlayer, muted the sound and then later
was wondering why I was not able to hear any of my videos, music, etc.
The thought occurred to me to check the Speaker Icon and, sure enough,
there was a check at Wave>>Mute.

Is there a setting I can check/uncheck that will allow RealPlayer and
Computer volume to be independent of one another?

Thank you,

So I installed some new Windows updates today (whatever was available via Windows Update). I restarted my computer to enable the updates. When it came back on, my task bar was white for some reason. I solved that problem using the first solution I found here: [SOLVED] Taskbar is white

Well I didn't change my volume before doing that, so I don't know if it worked before I followed that solution. I do know that after following that solution, my volume meter no longer shows up when I change the volume via the keys for it on my keyboard. This is pretty annoying because it was convenient to always see my audio level when I adjusted the volume.

I am on a HP Pavilion dv7-6c95dx with beats audio, running Windows 7 64-bit. When I changed my volume, the beats audio logo with a volume meter under it would pop up, but it no longer shows up. I haven't noticed any change in the quality of my sound, and I can still actually adjust the volume level. The problem is the volume meter no longer displays to show me the volume level.

If anyone has any clue as to why this happened, that would be great!

Answer:Volume meter no longer displays when I adjust volume level

Try rolling back any keyboard driver updates, or go to the keyboard manufacturers website and download most up to date driver(s) from there.

Hello,

I have a problem with adjusting the volume. When I adjust the volume using the button on the left side of the laptop, I only can choose 3 "loudness levels":

No volume, very silent volume, and maximum volume (to loud).

Is this normal, doesn't anyone have problems with this?
I expect the problem is because of the digital volume adjuster. The adjuster doesn't register the exact position of the volume button. Every time when I get a phone call at work (I listen to internet radio), I turn off the radio using the adjuster on the side of the laptop. When I end the phone call, I always need to open the laptop and adjust the volume in the windows task bar, because when I use the volume adjuster on the left side of the laptop, it just immediately goes to maximum volume.

Answer:Question about volume adjusting on volume button - Satellite Pro U300

Hi

It?s very strange that your sound volume control contains only 3 volume levels?
I have noticed that Toshiba has released a new sound driver (v. 6.0.1.5473) on the European driver page.

So how about the sound driver update?
The sound driver controls definitely the sound volume and in my opinion it?s a worth a try.

Good luck

Here is a question I can't seem to find the answer to in the archives.

How can adjust the volume output from my Windows ME machine (with SoundMax Digital Audio) so that the volume of the background music I like to listen to (via RealOne Player version 6.0.10.505) is quiet, but the other important sounds my PC makes (like email or calendar notifications) are loud enough so I can hear them?

I've seemingly tried all combinations of settings for the volume sliders/adjustments, including:

1) The volume knob on my speakers
2) The RealOne Player volume slider
3) The Windows volume control panel "Volume Control" slider
4) The WIndows volume control panel "PC Beep" slider

Even when the "PC Beep" volume slide is set to maximum, and the "Volume Control" slider is set near minimum in the Windows volume control panel, the PC beep is virtually inaudible when the background music is acceptably quiet (by adjusting the RealOne volume slider and/or the volume control on my speakers).

Am I doing something wrong? Is there some other way that I'm not thinking of to boost the volume of the system sounds my PC makes, while keeping the RealOne music volume low?

Thanks,

--Dean

Ever since I was forced to use my recovery dvd to fix VISTA after an unrecoverable crash that damaged and corrupted my drivers,
I have been unable to turn up the volume on my laptop to a decent level at all.
The sound is working and so are my speakers because when i test the audio device the test sound (Jingle) plays at the correct volume.
It also plays at the correct volume when I configure the Speakers so it cant be a driver problem can it?
I`ve tried connecting external speakers (VERY) loud ones but It`s still low.
The Master Volume and all levels are at max.
It cant be the Apps i`m using I dont think, because all system alerts (Beeps ect. ect.) are low too.
Please help, It`s driving me insane!

how do i turn up the volume on msn?the volume works on all other areas of the computer but not msn.plz help!!!

Answer:how do i turn up the volume for msn

Ensure that MSN is running then:Left click on the speaker icon on the taskbar (near the clock) then select 'mixer' and look to the left side of the window where it lists application sound settings, and see if the volume bar is alone the same line as everything else.It might help to have some other applications open such as youtube playing something and winamp.it might just be that its volume bar setting is lower than everything else and thus turning up your speakers / normal volume has no effect.Chez

Christy342010, did you look at the sound settings in your control panel? Any of the volume settings set lower?Possible you've got some sort of nasty (virus, worm/trojan, etc.?). Be aware that a virus and a Trojan are similar, but not the same. Many times, an AV detects one it can't clean, other times, it gets missed entirely. If you need to clean one, Superantispyware (info only. I?m not paid for recommendation. WARNING! FYI, a full scan on mine takes over an hour.) can do the job and you can get it free @:http://www.superantispyware.com/among other places. They have a Vista compatible version if needed. Dunno about Windows 7 or later. If it turns out that you need to use it, be sure to update Superantispyware prior to running. Disable 'restore' after cleaning and run it again (to remove any nasties living there, restart after cleaning) so the nasty doesn't get put back should you later ?restore?. They just released a new update recently and it changes all the time. Things are in a constant state of flux. The restore thing is critical. May not be your deal at all, but won't hurt anything to try.HTH.Ed in Texas.

Okay so I went to hop on my desktop today, it wasn't waking up when I move mouse etc, which was odd because it was on. So I restarted it and I've had two options for windows 10 for a while now volume 1 and 4 I don't know why, I've always used 1 but now when I click 1 it just goes to black screen, monitor is awake cause my light turns blue when it is, I pressed windows key with something I forgot what button while in black screen and sound was coming through. So I restated again and went on volume 4 and that worked fine out dated stuff since I haven't used it but it was working. I would like to get back on my main volume, or at least know what the issue is.

i did a Nvidia graphic card update a day or two ago as well.
i also tried to go to the troubleshoot screen when you open windows 10 which worked fine, but when I clicked restore to a previous time-black screen- and then I tried removing everything completely clicked that option -black screen-
Thanks for help ahead of time!!

Answer:Windows 10 black screen on volume 1(main) and not Volume 4(old)

UPDATE: so I went into volume 4 and attempted a complete wipe again, once I clicked it screen went black for a while and no sign it was working, so now I put in my windows XP disk and am going to attempt a clean install of that, then just upgrade to windows 10.

Have an external USB hard drive caddy with a naked Raptor drive sitting in it which has one partition that is the entire capacity of the Raptor drive...this is an 'active' volume.
1. Can someone tell me if I delete the volume under Computer Management>Disk Management>Delete Volume will this return it to being an 'inactive' volume?
2. Also can you tell me after deletion will I need to initialise the drive in the usual way like when one installs a new drive in a PC?
3. Upon reboot will Windows just offer to initialise it within Disk Management?

I have a truecrypt encrypted volume which is my entire hard drive.  This contains the windows OS and my files(one of many backed up encrypted copies).  I would now like to implement a 2nd truecrypt volume inside this present truecrypt volume.  Truecrypt calls this a hidden volume.  The idea is that at boot-up, you can use one of two passwords.  The one you choose dictates which (the primary or the hidden) volume.  The easy way to do this is to do it when first creating both truecrypt volumes but I did not realize I wanted to create this hidden volume until now.  All of the instructions I have seen require you to dismount the encrypted volume which will host the hidden volume first.  However I can't do that because I need that volume decrypted in order to run the truecrypt software which performs the function.

Any ideas other than decrypting the encrypted volume and starting from scratch?

Hello melb1946Does your keyboard have volume buttons? I know in my experiences I have sometimes run into similar scenarios. In my case the problem was accidentally hitting the volume button on my keyboard. How is your sound setup in Windows 7? Is your monitor set as the default sound device? Do other sound devices increase their volumes?Probably one of the best ways to isolate the problem would be to put the monitor on another computer and see if the sound continues to appear and go up.

I travel a lot by air and I like to watch DVD and listen through a set of earphones on my new Systemax (Windows XP) laptop. Even if I turn the volume up as loud as it will go, I still can't hear the dialog and I have to turn on the subtitles.

I have several AVI and MPG files on my machine and for some reason when I play them the volume is extreamly low. I can play them in win media player, my ATI file player or another player that I downloaded and get the same results. I can't play mp3s through any players and get normal sound either but I can play them through win amp and they are fine. Most of the files I have I have had for a little while and until recently they sounded fine. In fact, they sounded fine less then 24 hours ago. It (computer) had been on for several days but no changes have been made between the time they sounded ok and today. I update my drivers and software religiously and the hardware is obviously not the problem as winamp is ok. I have also checked all connections and played the files on another machine on my home network with no problem.

I would really like to know of a program that is easy to use to turn up my WAV files??
I use MP3 Gain Version 1.2.4 to adjust the volume on all my MP3 files and it works great but does anybody know of a free download which works the same for WAV files?

Answer:How do I turn up the volume of my WAV files?

Window's own Sound Recorder. In WinXP its in >>>>> Start Button\All Programs\Accessories\Entertainment\Sound Recorder

you can open a .WAV file with it and adjust the file's Volume up/down and save it. you can also adjust Speed up/down and save it.

its fairly crude, but it seems to do the job

I'm not talking about how to get it on screen. I am talking about how you turn on the functions through the regedit program.

Here is my problem.

My father-in-law installed Skype on his machine and bought Skypeout which allows VOIP calls to any landline in the U.S. and Can.

The problem is that every time he makes a call the microphone section of the volume control window gets the mute checkbox checked. This mutes the mic and the party on the other end cannot hear him even though he can hear them. The workaround is to have the volume control window open when making a call and unchecking the mute box.

I have tried to force the mute "off" through the regedit program but have had no luck whatsoever. I have tried the program on my unit and I cannot get it to do on mine what it does on his.

The Skype help windows are no help.

Does anyone have any idea on what can be done about this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

j

Answer:How do you turn on the volume control?

Maybe make a Shortcut pointing to sndvol32.exe (in XP---not sure about Vista).

Or Start-->Run--->sndvol32.exe and <enter>

Hope this helps. No need for Regedit. :-D Bazza

How do I turn down the ringer volume?

Answer:How do I turn down the ringer volume?

You don't say what you are running but assuming 8.1, push sound button up or down and you will see a little arrow come up on the top right of your phone. Touch and you will see adjustment bars for Ringer and App volume come up.

Answer:how to turn the volume up on the keyboard

Please provide the exact make/model of the computer. Are you sure you don't have to hold a function key to be able to use these? Is the volume icon blue? Is there a key labeled Fn on the keyboard?

I am running a game (3d movie maker) and the Volume mixer has set the sound right down to 0.
So I put the volume back up, but as soon as I click back to the game, the volume goes right back down again.
I've read similar problems, but this isn't related to running multiple applications. This only happens with this one game. And this problem happened randomly, after I put the volume down myself. After that one occasion I haven't been able to fix it.
Communications setting is set to "do nothing" and I have played with options allowing applications exclusive control of volume mixer.
Any ideas please?

Answer:Volume mixer automatically mutes game

Is this an old game or one designed for newer OS such as Win 7? Reason I ask, Vista/Win 7/Win 8 handle some audio functions differently than XP and earlier.

Also, Please fill in the "My System Specs". Helps us to help you. And finally, what sound drivers are you using? The ones from the PC vendor (or motherboard vendor on a custom build) or some other drivers such as the generic Windows installed HD Audio Codec?

SO im a gamer, and trying to use mumble, because that's what my team uses.

however, whenever someone talks, the game volume plummets. considering i play competitively, the game volume is almost constant at super low levels since there is always constant communication.

now, i disabled attenuation in mumble, but it didnt change anything. my friend told me that there is an option in Windows 7's control pannel which controls this from the OS, but Vista doesnt have this option.
how can i fix this?

Answer:Mumble reduces in game volume dramatically.

Might be the Sound Properties - Communications tab.

When I play my songs through Winamp they pay at a very low volume. So I go in to the Volume control window and adjust the "Wave" sound upwards and the song then plays at an audible volume. Yet when I put another song on the wave volume gos back back to zero again and the song is again very quiet. Is there any way of keeping the Wave volume the same so I don't have to keep increasing the volume before every song. Please helpstuj77

Everytime I boot up my PC and try to play music there is no sound. I have to go into 'Sounds and Audio Devices' and manually turn up the volume of 'Wave' in my M-Audio Delta sound card to hear music. What I don't understand is why the 'Wave' sound is turned off in the first place? Why do I have to keep adjusting the volume everytime I boot up my PC?Also; I have noticed a dip in volume sometimes when playing music - then it shoots up again. Sometimes music can only be heard from one channel - then switches to stereo again!

Toshiba M45-S331 laptop. Anyone know how to increase the volume? I have every setting that I can find turned up all the way. Can barely hear it sometimes.

Answer:Very Low Volume when playing dvd on Toshiba Laptop

Not sure how quiet is very low volume you speak of but the speakers on laptops are pretty weak so with one I had and, the one of my dad's i used to use, if i was in a car, plane or it was a quiet part of film i could barely hear it. Try some headphones or speakers when you've got it on a desk and if its still quiet then you know its a settings problems. i know it doesn't fix it but it is the only way i could hear my laptop most of the time if there was more a little background noise.

I am having a strange problem while playing games, the volume goes up and down, from hardly audible to extremely loud and then back to nothing again. adjusting the volume on my speakers or in windows does not help. adjusting directX hardware acceleration either slows down the game or makes the sound really bad and it still goes up and down. I am using my motherboards sound Realtek ALC650 hooked to Boston Acoustics BA735 2.1 digital speakers hooked up to analog out (I've never been able to get digital to work). I have run out of ideas any help would be appreciated.

I'm using Win 7 on an Ideapad y580.  I've tried going to Advanced Settings under Screen Resolution, but there is no tab for On Screen Display.  When I search the Control Panel for On Screen Display, nothing shows up.  I've also turned off visual notifications and visual warnings in Ease of Access (and I logged off and logged back in), but nothing. My computer came installed with "Realtek HD Audio Manager" but there's nothing in the settings for that program that has anything to do with the on screen volume display. I really just need to turn this off when using certain programs, so I'd rather not have to uninstall anything, if possible. Thanks

Answer:How do I turn off the On Screen Volume Display

 Hi amil,

Thanks for posting and welcome to the Lenovo Community,

I?d like to confirm to you that to be able to disable the on screen display options you will have to uninstall Lenovo Energy management which is not recommended as it will affect another functions,

Hope the information helps. Let us know.

I'm hoping someone has seen something like this before and can help me out.

I am refurbing an older computer for my mom. It's a Compaq Deskpro EN with the basics (PIII/750ish, 128 MB RAM, CDROM, onboard sound). It's running fully updated Win2000 SP4 and it runs pretty well.

The sound through the PC speaker or the line out is LOUD. The volume control in the toolbar does nothing - not even muting works. I finally unplugged the internal PC speaker to shut it up. I would like to have sound, but not at that volume. I don't need anything fancy.

Any idea what might be going on or what to do about it?

Do you think a new PCI sound card with speakers would solve the problem?

Thanks,
Pam

Answer:Sound problem - volume won't turn down

If you mean you tried to adjust the sound through the speaker icon in the taskbar (lower right part), try double clicking on it to bring up multiple volume controls. Or you could right click on it and click "Open Volume Controls" to do the same. See if any of those helps.

I have tried everything! My roommate turned it off and I can't get it back on. I have Windows XP Pro. I went to control panel and phone and modem and can't find anything. I also went into internet options and can't find it there. The volume settings are on and are on high. What is M0L0? I saw a piece of paper in her hand writing and that is in the advanced tab in the modem properties. Can you help?

Answer:How Do I turn Modem Volume back on?

Modem init strings

M0 Speaker always off
M1 Speaker on during connection
M2 Speaker always on (very noisy)
L0 Lowest volume
L1 Lowest volume (redundant)
L2 Medium volume
L3 Maximum volume

So change the init string to M1L2

How do I turn off automatic volume control for played audio (Speakers, not mic)? It's highly annoying that every time there is a silence or when I pause something, then when audio resumes, the volume glides gradually from zero to normal in about 0.5 seconds. It's most notable when the application volume is at ~20% and the main volume is max, but this has two downsides that make me do it opposite instead, with the main volume at 20%:The speakers are enormously loud. Whenever I start an application or game for the first time and it has it's volume at the default 100%, I'm in trouble,I want to be able to tune volume in my applications (not system volume) with fine steps, instead of having only 4 steps available between 0 and 20%. Even so, the algorithm also seems bugged and sometimes, but not always, it's very noticeable with application volume at 100%. I can't reliably reproduce it. Sometimes, for example in a game, when I shoot a pistol a few times, the volume of each shot increases as I shoot and then suddenly drops to low volume again from one shot to the other, only to start this cycle over and over. In any case, I want to get rid of this behavior altogether.

Hello! So I have been using apple ear buds for awhile with windows phones and just the other day when they are plugged in all the way the volume on the phone goes to 0 and won't turn up, yet it works I unplug the buds and with the auxiliary cord in the car. Just wondering if it's the ear buds or my phone. The apple ear buds do have the MIC and volume control but they don't work with windows. Hoping its just faulty ear buds! Thanks in advance:)
