Preferred Solution: Will pfd users be able to update to denim parlally with non pfd users????

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Will pfd users be able to update to denim parlally with non pfd users????

Why not. For cyan it was also the case. Unfortunately a problem occurred and that was the reason that pfd were placed on "hold". Only I hope there are not coming major feedbacks on the demin in China in relation with pfd.

I have the Verizon Lumia Icon (929) and I'm (im)patiently hitting check for update on data, as well as trying on wifi but am not seeing the magical "update waiting" words yet. I'm in rural Tennessee if that makes a difference.
I know I can wipe and install through software recovery, but would like to avoid that route at this point.
Any advice or hints? Thanks

Microsoft is pushing DENIM update for all Lumia phones across globally in different time but when should we expect the very same for preview for developers enrolled Lumia users ? And when ll windows 8.1.2 update arrive ?

Answer:Denim for PFD users ?

To receive denim on pfd enrolled Lumias, you may have to just untick the 'enable preview for developers' in the app.
There is no date yet for windows 8.1.2 update, only Microsoft would know this.

Is denim update released for PFD users? I am using Lumia 520 with DP my phone shows upto date (India) if I enable DP extras info shows cyan otherwise it shows denim but I'm not installed any update only updated my extras info

Answer:Will Denim be released for PFD users?

The previous post mentioned both 525 & 520 India devices to receive Denim update OTA. But the latest topic only shows Lumia 525.
My cousin's 525 which is also on DP, keeps popping update notifications but I'm not confirm that whether it's Denim or something else.
But it seems unchecking preview opt. from app will enable receiving update for denim.

Hey Guys,

If you are using Kaspersky on Windows XP, and your Blue Shift is not working, I may have a solution for you. If you go into Kapersky, go to My Security Zone and then application activity. Go to Category and then click all. Scroll down until you find everything to do with Blue Shift ( Half Life Launcher, installation etc). Right click on each of these and change the status to Trusted. The game should work now. I hope this helps I've had the problem for a while and it was driving me nuts. I'd also like to thank the user "fragger" for giving me the idea to look at Kaspersky. If your reading this, hope it helps you out buddy.

Answer:Half Life Blue Shift Problem for XP Users: Solution for Kaspersky users

I'd also like to add the game only works when I have Safari open. Absolutely no idea why, but this seems to be a requirement.

hi guys,

really need some help on this one cause i cant seem to get how something that sounds so simple is so hard to do.

i got a client with a workstation that has a local user account on it.
they also have a domain which he has another account on there.

so i have local account joe1 and domain account joe2. now i need to get joe 1 to combind and merge outlook and my docs with joe2. and then get joe2 to stay on the server so that it remains a account that can be accesses on any computer on the domain network. with this in mind the user profile needs to be saved on the server and the profile can be copied to the computer that his sitting at when he loggs on.

anyway i can figure out how to move the local (joe1) account to the server (joe2)i have tried a command moveuser but i keep getting a parameter error on there (error 87) .

i typed it like this

moveuser joe1 (company doamin)\joe2 /c:\\(client machine)

please can anyone help me one this

User 1 logs in and works does whatever... Doesn't log out but screensaver goes back to user screen.

User 2 logs in (switching users - not logging out user 1) and gets to work.

Sometime later (ie. not right away) and not at a prescribed time, the network stops working.

I try to disable / enable the network adapter and the machine freezes.   Reboot fixes problem.

If user 1 or user 2 is the only one logged in then never a problem.

Anyone heard of this?
Thanks for any help!

Answer:Multiple Windows 7 Users-Switch between Users-network stops working

When switching users, it's always a good idea to have User 1 close out any applications and documents they have open and then log out before User 2 logs in. It sounds like you have fast user switching enabled, but I'm not aware of that causing any network issues -- unless User 1 was doing something that required a network connect.

Check the Event Viewer for error logs from the time it froze when you tried to disable and enable the network adapter. Post the event ID and description here if you need help diagnosing the issue from the log files. Perhaps another fix is to disable fast user switching, so that users are always forced to log out before someone else can log in.

Can anyone help me regain Security Permissions to C:\Users\All Users\Application Data Folder which I lost while looking at the access rights. I mistakenly closed the box while playing with the access rights and lost any access to the file.
I pulled the access rights to the file using icacls they are below.

application data
D:PAI(D;OICI;FA;;;WD)(A;;0x1200a9;;;WD)(A;OICI;FA;;;SY)(A;OICI;FA;;;BA)S:AI

I am thinking I can change the information in the file and restore it. Not sure exactly what to change?

I was also thinking I could pull the info from another computer running with the same operating system and reapply them to this file? Would this work?

I looked at Previous Versions of the upper level folder. Can I restore a previous version of this whole folder? Will it restore the Application Data folder with the prior permissions?

Answer:Lost Access Permissions to C:\Users\All Users\Application Data Folder

Are you asking about the Application Data or Appdata folder?

If Application Data, this is not a real folder but a junction used to allow interface with legacy programs. No access is necessary since it is pointing to the Appdata folder.

working with vista homeprem sp2 32bit here. ran a quick avast scan a few minutes ago, it caught some small-time junk in the temporary internet files (which were purged easily enough), but it also pointed out C:\users\all users as "the system cannot find the path specified". so I open up windows explorer and try to go there. cue the "refers to a location that is unavailable" error message. now, I don't usually need to prod around in there so I'm not familiar with what normally happens, but I know vista loves to have a bunch of directories displayed that are shortcuts it uses for people who leave "hide protected OS files" checked (I don't, I want to see what's where) which really ought to not be shown when you're not hiding stuff but I digress, that's for MS to be groused at after win8 flops.

SO. should I panic that I've had another thing sneak past the security screens (mvp hosts file, spyware blaster, avast's shields, mbam scans)? nothing else seems out of sorts, but one man's paranoia is another man's preparation, and all.

Answer:C:\Users\All Users refers to a location that is unavailable *error message*

This is normal. All users folder points to c:\programdata folder. These are called symbolic links.

I don't remember when, but I availed myself of the free Windows 10 upgrade sometime back. I was using 8.1 and I had, at some point, moved C:\Users and all its associated folders to E:. Everything has worked fine and Win10 didn't have a problem. I did notice that there was still a C:\Users, but the only folder it contains is Administrator.

This was probably not a good move to make. Moving data folders, like Pictures, Documents, etc., is fine, but moving the actual User Profiles was not such a good idea. My E: drive is no longer large enough to hold all my photos and other data. I bought a replacement drive large enough, but having my Users Profiles on E: is now a problem and I want to move them back to C:, only without the data folders.

I can delete all the existing data files from those default folders (I have backed them all up), so now I need to find a way to restore the Users folder and contents to C:. I've tried researching the problem, but found nothing that specifically applies to my situation. The TenForums article, "Relocating Users folder on an existing Windows installation" Seems to be as close as I can get. Unfortunately, this part has made me take pause and ask you all for help:

Answer:Restore Users Profiles back to C:\Users without data folders

Jim McClain said:

Do you know what I should do? Maybe Kari's still around and can reply? Any guidance would be appreciated.

If you used the Sysprep method to relocate the Users folder to E: drive, you can use the same method to relocate it back to C: drive. The warning you quoted is when doing this in a clean install, it does not apply when moving Users folder back to C: drive which will always be accepted and OK for Windows.

Follow these simple steps (looks more complicated than it in reality is!):

Create a new, temporary local user account, name it as you wish like "Dummy" or such (tutorial)Change Dummy's account type to administrator (tutorial)Sign out from all other user accounts, sign in to DummyDisable all other user accounts except Dummy, the one you are currently signed in (tutorial). No worries, accounts and their data will remain intact, deactivating (disabling) them temporarily is done because sometimes Sysprep causes existing user accounts to lose Start and Search / Cortana functionality. When we are ready we will again activate (enable) all old user accountsWhen done, open an elevated Notepad (right click and select Run as Administrator) copy the following code and paste it to a new text document]:

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

Hi everyone,

I am the web masters of a local snowmobile club and our new website is having a few problems with printing. Please take a look at the site, http://www.strathroysnoblizzards.com/Strathroy_Sno-Blizzards/index.html

As you can see it has a black background which when printed on my Mac OS X has no problems with printing (it leaves out black background and keeps the text and images) and prints everything.

The problem is that one of our members are ticked that they can not print the site because of the black showing up above the text and images and I really don't want to change the background because it look good the way it is, so is there any way to change to printer settings or some ideas for him to help him out with this problem.

Second problem is that out of 4 pages, 2 are blank with nothing on it and there is suppose to be text and images on those pages, anyway how to fix this too?

Thanks Guys

Answer:Website printing??? (backgrounds causing problems with PC users but not Mac users)

I only have one suggestion. Do they have this unchecked?
Print background colors and images.

IE->Tools->Internet Options->Advance Tab-> scroll down
to the Printing headline. Make sure it is unchecked.

How can I setup 2 networks so that my wireless users can't access wired users?

All of my computers are wired... but, I would like to give my retired neighbor (he's 64 years old) wireless access. But, I don't want him or anyone else access to my shared files b/w desktop/laptop. So, should I put it on a different subnet? Do I need a 2nd router? Right now, I have the BEFSR41 with a WAP11 AP on 192.168.1.245 with the router on 192.168.1.1 (both are 255.255.255.0 subnet).

Thanks!

Answer:How can I setup 2 networks so that my wireless users can't access wired users?

I would setup a DMZ, you can do this by using two physical routers or something like smooth wall with multiple nics. If I were you I would setup smooth wall on a crap old box and install 3 network cards into the old computer. Hooking your cable modem to one of the network cards in the smoothwall box will be like pluggin in your cable modem to the wan port on the back of your router. I would plug your wireless router into to the next nic on your smooth wall box. If your neighbor is the only one using the wireless do the following. Enable WEP, don't broadcast your ssid, filter by mac address, and limit the total number of connections to 1. That should keep your wireless rather secure. With the final network card in the smooth wall box attach either a standard switch or even another router. Smooth wall has built in DHCP support and it will allow you to set a range of ips.Hard wire all your home computer to the switch and your in business.

Hi all! I've found a found two windows xp based APPS that'll optimize your performance "Right Mark CPU Utility" is the 1st one and your just set the profiles to the optimal performance... another tip that you could use to optimize your turion 64 is to uninstall the turion 64 update with evidently keeps your processor running at a specified temp with does limit your performance. Another application that you could use to optimize your ati 200m or anyother mobile based graphics card is Power Strip.. Hope's this helps everybody out!

What is the best way to share execution priviledges between limited users, power users, and administrators?

Say an application has already been installed by a higher priviledged user type, and a limited user cannot execute it - e.g. an ISP login software, or Spy Sweeper. Note: ISP login software lacks profile, so I suppose I could just create that, however, Spy Sweeper is a head scratcher.

Should the application be uninstalled and reinstall under All Users? How do you install an application to allow All Users to use it?

I have already tried to use the "Run As" right-click Properties w/Shift key approach and that does not work.

Is there an approach with regard to local security policy that would do what I want to do? How is that done? Or, is Access Control List the way to go?

All the accounts work fine, except the built-in administrator account which I can't do anything with (if I try to enable it using the 'net user' command, net crashes).

I suspect I may just have to live with this, but does anyone have any suggestions about how to 'clean' the administrator account in the registry so that LUAG works again?

Thanks

Check your Windows version!

If you have the Windows 10 Home edition, then it will not have Local Users and Groups (lusrmgr.msc) included in it. It's only available in the Pro and Enterprise editions instead.

What command(s) you use to activate the Administrator?

As Administrator, I?ve created my own folders for my documents. These are located in the D: partition of my hard drive; and they are shown in the Library section of the contents of the computer, on the left.
Now, when opening the computer from the Guest Account, my own folders do not appear in the Library, all right. But just below the Library there appears the rest of the computer content, including the D: partition, and any Guest can access all the folders and files there, including my documents.
How can I hide the folders of each User from any other Guests, not only in the Library but also in their actual location in the hard drives?
Thanks for any help.
ACA

Answer:Hiding Users' files from Guest Users

OK this appears to be a simple permissions issue.

go to your root folder on the D: drive and right click the folder and select properties.

on the security tab you should see a list of those who have access to the folder - Make sure that your user has full rights and remove all rights to the "everyone" user group. This when OK'd should xascade down to all files and folders contained in the folder

If you wish you can adjust the rights available to any other particular user on the system - Make sure that you do not remove or change any rights given to system or administrative users unless you fully understand the result

Since there is an unsupported upgrade path to Creators Update for the Lumia 830, I'm curious if it's worth it. For those of you who have had experience with it the Creators Update on the Lumia 830, I'd like to consider the following:
1) Which build is more stable?
2) Does the 830 lose any functions such as camera capabilities, Wi-Fi, or other driver related issues?
3) Which build has better battery life?
What else can you think of?
Some have said that the 830 runs faster with the Creators Update. Has that been your experience?
So, the dilemma... stick with a stable known or enjoy the cutting edge.

In XP, you can choose to run a program as a different user. Right-click the shortcut, select Advanced, then check "Run with different credentials". When you execute the program, it will prompt which user to run it as. You may have to read up on how to make it not prompt for a password each time.

I am running W10 Pro x64 1511.

The laptop came with a default account for USER, so the underlying subfolders of Users are in users\USER\.
For various reasons I wanted to have them under my name i.e., users\FP\. So I added another admin user FP with which I login. However, no users\FP\ folder was created and the information is still stored in users\USER\.

Any idea why and how I could get the system to create the FP users folder and store the information there?

Thanks.

Answer:Consistency between users and Users folders

How did you add the second admin account?

Using win10 - 64bit
Logged into cmd prompt as admin.
Cannot see C:\users\all users with the following cmd's

Folder does not show in normal File Explorer window
Run TREE cmd and the All Users folder does not show.
Run DIR cmd for C:\users and All Users does not show
Run ATTRIB -s -h C:\users and still do not see All User folder appearing. Restart after running ATTRIB cmd, but does not trigger reload of folder.

BUT, when I
Run DIR cmd for "C:\users\all users" the folder and files show
Run ROBOCOPY and the All Users folder and its files transfer.

Somehow this folder has become hidden and I am unable to unhide or see it.

Any suggestions?

Answer:Unable to see folder C:\users\all users

Windows does not have a folder All users. It is a link to C:\ProgramData folder, in other words when you run command DIR "C:\Users\All Users", it lists the content of folder C:\ProgramData.

Under Windows 2000, when I reformat the computer, I add administrator user as a network user in the install process. Then, I go in and add local users to the computer. Later on when I want to add network users, it won't let me, the computer just hangs. Any ideas?

Answer:Can't add network users after add local users

Not much information to go on here, but are you signed on as a network admin when you are trying to add the network users?

When you say you add the administrator user as a network user, what are you referring to? Are you adding the Network Administrator account to the local PC?

Is there a way to create user files or folders that are not invisible to other users. Invisible to mean the other user see absolutely nothing to do with another user. Users in this case to mean Windows 10 "Standard User" Please note that if solution cannot be accomplished with Home edition, please note that in your reply --Thanks

Here is an example. There are 2 user accounts on my computer, not including mine. The computer has a 2nd drive that I use for all my personal data. When I created a Standard User, that user apparently can see all my folders and files. They cannot open them but they can see the titles. I want to create an environment where each user only can see and manipulate those files and folders they create/own. Other than that the data drive would empty.

If this is something you know about or dealt with I would very much like to hear your thoughts and a concrete and simple way to accomplish this.

Again, thanks

I posted this message in the W95/98/ME fourm, but this seems like the more appropriate place for the question:

I work for a company that has a small network consisting of one NT 4.0 Server box and around 40-60 client computers, mostly running W95 with a few running W98/2000/ME. Anyway, two managers here have W98 machines, and periodically after they have logged into the network and used different mapped network drives all of a sudden they can't access any mapped drives and they appear to be disconnected from the network (well, they are, as they can't do anything network related). The network is your basic ethernet using simple UTP cabling and hubs. The cabling appears to be plugged in properly, especially since they can log in and be connected to the network for a period of time. Rebooting solves the problem, but that isn't acceptable to my managers, so I have to figure out a way to get it so they don't get kicked off (besides just giving them W95). I have done a lot of research by myself on this, but I can't find any answers....if anyone has any ideas I'll be grateful, and will consider naming one of my future children after you. If you need more info, I'll be checking this board tomorrow throughout work, and will be more than happy to provide you with any other info you need. Thanks

Nate W.

Anyone who uses/has-used PC-cillin ... well more to the point, does anyone like this program?

I bought it for "fun", before trying it (smart, I know!)...but it is extremely annoying in so many ways.

It warns you about everything. Granted, that sounds good, but--just browsing the net, it will find dozens of "spyware/ad sites" (and it has always been right thus far), but they are iframes, popups etc. They are everywhere--and a warning for each one!

"Venus spy-trap" they call it. I thought that was funny in itself But really, the one thing on there that is just a PITA: I added two domains to my hosts file, and there is no way to "allow" the changes permanently--upon reopening the browser, their warnings come back. Of course, you could disable the monitoring of the file, but then what is the purpose!

Lastly (thus far), I get meeting notices via Outlook / Lotus Notes. They say these emails are *viruses* because they're in an unusual format! Better yet: the fix...well, you should check it out!
http://esupport.trendmicro.com/suppo...ntID=en-126819

You edit the registry to fix something so stupid...

Ok, end of rant (sorry), but I really am curious--those of you who use this, why?

Hello,
I come across an issue. I have some powershell scripts in a folder. My demand is that i'd like to share it with remote domain users. But i don't want them to check the content inside.
So, when i set the NTFS permission for the users,  I removed the read permission only retained 'Traverse folder/execute file" permission
and "list folder/read data" permission. however, the remote users could access the folder remotely but failed to see any scripts inside the folder. just looks like the the folder is empty.
My questions is if my requirement is viable with NTFS permission.

My father replaced his Windows 98 machine with a new computer running Windows 7. He's currently on 32-bit ultimate, but we could change versions if needed.

He's really hoping there's some way to force Windows 7 into a single user mode, primarily so C:\users\All Users, Default User, Public, and his own user are merged into one. It's absolutely driving him nuts the way it is.

I've done quite a bit of searching and have came up empty. Before I said it couldn't be done, I'm wondering if anyone's heard of a way to do this.

Answer:Win 7 single user, merging users\All Users, Default User, Public, etc?

Just curious, but why does this annoy him so much? Surely it's not that complicated a system and all of his documents etc are stored in the same place, with more or less easy to use shortcuts to these directories placed throughout Windows 7?

My database houses several types of inventory and I will have about 30 employees accessing the db. I'd like to have some of the forms run a macro (that runs several update queries) upon closing. If I add the macro and 2 or 3 (or more) people happen to close the form at the same time, what type of issues will I run into, if any? All of the forms in my database are based on "CurrentUser()". I can't seem to find any answers anywhere online... Any ideas or suggestions would be great!

Answer:Update Queries with Multiple Users

All that should happen is the the first user would "lock" the records until the update is finished and then the next user's queries would be run etc.
So all it should do is delay shutdown.
They might possibly get a message to say the Record had been changed, but I doubt it.

Normally any existing users should be kept, are you sure you do the full upgrade (keep data and applications) ? To do the full upgrade you must match the architecture (32-bit or 64-bit) and the original language of your current Windows version (not any language packs added after the installation). If there is no match you are offered a partial upgrade (keep data only) or a clean-install.

Hi

I have windows 7 x64 installed. I don't use IE at all. FF is my default browser from a very very long time, i am set on it and i am used to it.
I am seeing IE 11 update in windows updates. I wanted to ask, should i update the IE or not since i never use it and won't be using it at all.

The info i searched from Google to find out the answer before posting it here (unfortunately i couldn't get proper answer) and what i got was, that it should be needed when using HTML coding or some such stuff. I am a home user (though advanced a bit) but i never do coding, this is not my field. I just use my laptop for simple browsing, watching videos, movies and some thesis writing. It's light using.

Please guide me.

I found this thread a bit informative but its mere talking though.
Are there any reasons not to install IE 11 for Windows 7 x64? - Microsoft | DSLReports Forums

Answer:IE 11 windows update, mendatory for FF users?

I'd install the update.

Internet Explorer is not a standalone piece of software like Firefox or Chrome. It is a part of the Windows OS. Which is why it is a massive headache as well as a security nightmare. You are perfectly within your right to not use it, but you cannot predict when Windows will decide a part of it must run whether you know it or not. Be aware that even if you disable IE it may affect other software. (I learned that the hard way after trying to install Corel Draw. I found out the Corel installer uses IE to display the EULA. Just one example of why IE should be updated even if you don't use the browser feature.)

I think there may be a serious bug with it and if anyone else can confirm it, that would be great.
My monitor has multiple refresh rates 60,100,120,144hz. Sometimes I use a custom refresh rate of 80hz for certain games that I set in Nvidia Control Panel. However, none of my games acknowledge any custom refresh rates (the desktop is fine), only the preset ones of 60,100,120,144hz are recognised. I have tried several Nvidia drivers with the same result. This only happened after I cleanly installed the Creators Update. If anyone else could please confirm this, it would be much appreciated.

Answer:Any Windows 10 Creators Update users out there?

Well, after several hours I finally fixed the bug. It was caused by the Creators update GAME MODE.
Turn all this shit off and it reverts back to normal.

Edit - the bug returned, but if I reboot after enableing any custom refresh rates, then it seems to hold.

looks like update tuesday delivered some new features to test out for win7 users. my rig just updated, going to restart now and see if anything is different.
it said it was a couple of 'test updates' and 'client' updates.

Answer:Windows 7 Beta Users get an Update

Nothing new in the updates. The updates apparently are only to check the update system works and just replace files with the exact same file.

“We will be offering some test updates to Windows 7 Beta (build 7000) computers,” revealed a member of the Microsoft Update team. “We do typically verify update scenarios during a Beta, and releasing these test updates will help ensure that when we need to release real updates, the process will run smoothly. There will be at most five updates. These updates test the Windows 7 servicing infrastructure. They will not deliver any new features or fixes.”

ALERT! Centrino users must update or get owned!
Posted by George Ou @ 1:53 am

ALL PCs with the Centrino logo or any computer using an Intel Wireless Ethernet adapter must update their PROSet software and drivers found here or your computer can be remotely hijacked. An update was released earlier this month but that version was found to leak memory and cause PC slowdown. It is absolutely critical for IT departments and individual users to update their PROSet software and drivers.

Unfortunately, there isn't any autoupdate mechanism for the Intel PROSet software and drivers. Microsoft Windows Update includes an optional driver update section for WDM certified drivers, but something like the Intel PROSet software isn't ever included in Windows Update and you'll need to download the 51 MB update manually and install it manually on every single machine in your organization. Microsoft does not include driver or third party software updates in their critical update mechanism, but that may not be a bad idea if Microsoft would provide a standardized mechanism to deliver these critical updates. This should be done in conjunction with all of the third party hardware and software vendors since most major Linux distributions already do.

In accordance with regulatory instructions, PayPal is about to change their withdrawal functionality in India starting on August 1, 2010. At present you can request for either an electronic or cheque withdrawal of funds from your PayPal account if you are an India user.

From July 29, 2010 onwards, you will only be able to request for a cheque withdrawal of funds from your PayPal account.

In a mail to me they said, “While we are working hard to restore the electronic withdrawal service, in the meantime, we are bringing this matter to your attention so that you can plan your future withdrawal activities accordingly.”
To request for a cheque withdrawal:
1. Log into your PayPal account, click on ‘Withdraw’.
2. Click on the ‘Request a cheque from PayPal’ link.
3. Enter the withdrawal amount and select your mailing address, then click ‘Continue’.
4. Click ‘Submit’ to confirm your request. In order to help you with this change and until further notice, Paypal will refund the $5 USD cheque withdrawal fee to you for cheque withdrawals made on July 29, 2010 onwards.

Hi

It is possible update for all users the Windows Store apps with a local account belonging to the Administrators group?

Then, I believe that the management of updating of the Windows Store apps can also be managed only by administrators. Right? If so, how do I do this?

Thanks

Bye

Answer:Update the apps of Windows Store for all users

Hello Balubeto,

Store apps are owned by each specific user account, and must be updated in each specific account as well. User accounts do not share Store apps, so they can not be updated for all users from another account.

However, Store apps have automatic updating turned on for all users by default.
Windows Update - Automatic Updating - Turn On or Off in Windows 8
You could disable or enable the ability of all users to turn on or off automatic download of app updates though.

Hope this helps some,

Our computer network was Windows XP Pro. We upgraded the computers to Windows 7 Pro.

Under XP, users were allowed to update without any problems.

With Windows 7, it prompts for an administrator account.

The computers already have checked "Allow all users to install updates on this computer". However it does indicate on that same screen at the top "Some settings are managed by your system Administrator".

Currently it's wanting to install the monthly malware tool, but is unable to do so without domain admin's credentials.

What I'm baffled with is that this worked under the WinXP systems, but not Win7 systems.

Server did not change anything (Win2003 Server) w/ active directory.

Might there be some group policy on the server that wouldn't allow Win7 computers, when WinXP computers worked? Or is there something beyond the "Who can install updates" option on the computers locally?

All computers on the network experience this same problem.

Thank you for any suggestions and taking the time to read this!

I got the Creators update for my Win 10 home edition laptop yesterday.

Here's what I have noticed so far (In case anyone is interested.) ....

I use the Windows 10 Mail application.
I see now, that the icon on my start menu screen reflects the number of unread emails.
That's pretty nice.

As a basic home user of Windows 10, I won't be using the 3D stuff, gaming or enhancements to the Edge browser. (I'm a chrome user.)

Has anyone noticed any other basic enhancements? (I didn't read anywhere about the Mail icon enhancement.)

Or things that used to need fixing, actually being fixed after this upgrade has completed ?
IE: The ability to index a home network drive or Calendar's inability (or refusal) to show scheduled events further out than 6 months.
That sort of thing.

The upgrade itself ran flawlessly for me.
I hope the same is true for all of you as well.

Since the upgrade completed, I've tested pretty much everything I run on a regular basis.
And except for the following (I consider them minor) things, MS seems to have done a good job (in my opinion) making this upgrade work.

The ability to select to launch a "command prompt" from the start button disappeared.
I needed to go into the taskbar settings and change it back.
I guess I should have expect that.

I needed to install C++ 2015, (for some reason) after the update was completed.
Otherwise one of my HP apps (I have an HP laptop) that runs at startup, would not work.

Avast users, if your Windows 10 Anniversary Update is failing, here's why

Users who have Avast?s antimalware solution on a PC with Intel microprocessors are reporting Blue Screens of Death (BSODs) when installing the Windows 10 Anniversary Update.

Avast users report that when the AU process is kicked off, the PC will eventually crash with a ?system thread exception not handled? error. The system then reverts to the previous version of Windows, forcing the user to re-download the update (if they hadn?t previously downloaded it to a USB stick) and begin the update process anew. I have a machine running Avast, and I had the same experience as others reported.

If you do have Avast installed and want to upgrade to the AU in the meantime, you?ll need to uninstall the Avast program. If that fails (as it did for me) Avast has also published a dedicated ?avastclear? application to facilitate the uninstallation process. (You may need to reboot into Safe Mode with Networking to get that to work.)

Looks like Avast have release an updateto tackle the problem. My secondary hdd has Avast on it so many thanks for the headsup Borg - may have saved many a blue scren.

The emergency update was already released for Avast 12.2.2276

It is safe now to perform a clean installation using the on-line installer on Skylake CPUs running Windows Anniversary Update.
