Why do the start screen Email and SMS tiles number of unread emails count disappear if not read?

Question: Why do the start screen Email and SMS tiles number of unread emails count disappear if not read?

For example, the Email or Message tile number disappear when you open and close the app though you may not have even opened and read the message. iOS and Android keep the number of unread messages on the app icon or tile until they are read.

Preferred Solution: Why do the start screen Email and SMS tiles number of unread emails count disappear if not read?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Why do the start screen Email and SMS tiles number of unread emails count disappear if not read?

Its default behavior.
Why? We can only speculate.
my thinking is that is shows what has happened SINCE you last opened the app.
I'd like the option, but that's just how it is.

It was a struggle to get the phone to update in the 1st place, requiring many soft resets and possibly turning battery saver off. So now it tells me it has successfully downloaded and installed 2 updates, but the settings tile and one other are now gone from the start screen. Just gone, not replaced by another feature. I just see the blank/dark blue color where the tiles should be. What happened and how do i get them back?

There's a folder on my Lumia 1520 (OS version 8.1) Start screen that has no tiles/apps in it. I previously created this folder to store multiple apps, but recently removed all of them from the folder. However, the folder did not disappear as it should after removing all the tiles/apps.
What you see in the folder are "empty" tiles, that appear as my chosen Start background. In other words, it looks like the empty tiles you'd see in a folder that has not been completely filled with apps. The upper left tile however, is solid, or dark (i.e., not my Start background), and when tapped, results in the two horizontal bars dropping down, where the top bar is used to name the folder. Whether or not the folder is named, tapping again to close those bars always results in the upper left tile being solid, not matter what size you make the folder.
The folder can be re-sized as normal.
What I've tried to make the folder disappear: (1) soft reboot, (2) completely filling up the folder with tiles/apps, then removing them. I've also created a totally new folder, which disappears as normal once all the tiles/apps are removed.
I wonder if the folder has somehow been corrupted.
Any suggestions as to how I can make this folder disappear?!

This sounds like an unusual problem. There more information you can give about your particular situation, the better.
What device do you have?
What version of the OS are you running?

Hello,

Is it possible to set a security feature on an email so that the receiver can not mark the message as unread once the message was opened. I had this happen to me with several emails from another outlook user. We work on the same server.

Once I opened the emails, I was not able to close them and mark as unread. Within an hour the property was removed. I trying to figure out how this happened. Thanks in advance for any insight.

My company has an NT 4.0 computer with Outlook 2000 installed. The user on this computer is having a non-replicable (although I have seen it) problem involving the unread/read status of messages. After reading a message w/ the preview pane or double-clicking and opening the message, the message's envelope icon changes to "open" or read and the Inbox info is no longer bold. But after exiting the program or changing to a different folder in Outlook (Calendar for instance), upon returning to the Inbox the previously read message is now showing as unread (envelope icon closed, Inbox info in BOLD). Try as I might I cannot seem to replicate this problem on a standard basis. I've looked in Outlook at Tools>Options>Other>Preview Pane, but as the problem is not happening all the time I hesitate to assume that the settings there have are causing the problem or may have any bearing on this. I have searched MS support site, Outlook help and posted a message on the Microsoft Outlook newsgroup to no avail. Any help, suggestions, etc would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks much- Jocelyn

I received an email from a friend last Saturday. I read it on Sunday from my Outlook inbox but did nothing with it. On Monday I went to reply but it had disappeared. I have repeatedly checked deleted items and everywhere else in Outlook and can't find it. Someone else who used my laptop on Sunday denies having done anything with the email. Can it have really disappeared without human intervention?
Thanks in anticipation....

Answer:Can read emails in Outlook 2007 automatically disappear?

Depending on your email provider, and the Outlook settings, you may still be able to access the email on the provider's webmail page. For example, if you read BT emails through Outlook, going to BT.com and logging in there will show all emails received. BUT, if Outlook is not setup to leave mail on the server, they may not be there.

So this just started today (like an hour ago). When I get an email in Gmail it shows in my Inbox. If I open it to read it, and then close it, it still shows in my Inbox, but if I refresh then it disappears. Only unread emails show. If I check All Mail it shows the read emails, and shows the tag "Inbox", so they are still there, but just not visible. If I check them as unread in the All Mail view they show again in Inbox, but again, once read, they disappear. It's happening in both Chrome and Firefox. Anyone else having this issue?

Hello! This is my first post here, so I hope I'm asking this question in the correct area.
I wanted to change the number of rows in my Windows 8.1 Start Tiles from 5 to 4. I followed the steps from your tutoria, but when I signed out and signed back in, I still see 5 rows.
Additionally, I tried using a VBS script from EightForums, but that also did not work. (Apparently, I'm not allowed to post URLs, so unfortunatley I cannot link you to the VBS script that I found by searching google for "Change Windows 8.1 Start Tiles Rows", so if you want to see what I'm talking about you should search for the same thing and click the first result from EightForums).
Does anyone have any ideas why I'm not able to change my rows from 5 to 4? My laptop's monitor's resolution is 1920x1080, if information could help troubleshoot my problem here.
Thanks a whole lot! I really want to have only 4 rows, but if it seems like it'll be way more trouble than it's worth, sticking with 5 isn't a huge deal.

This is a recent minor problem that has developed when using Outlook.com running on my laptop in Windows 7.

If I have a number of tabs open I have to go to the Outlook tab to see if I have new emails whereas before it used to show in the tab with the number of unread messages showing in brackets.

I'm running Firefox latest version have cleared the cache and cookies, tried a system restore, and tried the Firefox add-on "dispalyunreadtabs..." but that does not seem to have fixed the problem.
Is there something obvious I'm missing or something I have not activated?

However, the issue is that when I am looking at the email panel on my Blackberry (not opening the unread emails), it shows the the emails are marked as 'read' on Outlook even though I never actually opened them on the BB. How do I solve this situation? I am missing important emails since I get dozens every day, and I can't keep track of them if they are all marked as Read

This is really bothering me. I'm moving from an old laptop to a newer laptop, both running W8. The newer laptop only shows 4 rows of apps on the start screen, where-as the old laptop showed 5 rows.
Looking around for documentation and hacks the old laptop screen resolution was 1440x900, the newer laptop is 1600x900. Both should default to 5 rows. Granted the laptops used different GPU's (older was ATI, newer Intel). I've updated the drivers on the new laptop, done the "Layout_MaximumRowCount" reg change, no go.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

Hi there,

I've just upgraded to Windows 10 after a while on 8.1 and am slowly getting used to the changes. Because I preferred the Start Screen from 8 (as opposed to a Start Menu) I've set that as my default option on 10. But I'm experiencing an odd issue where the image on the tiles appears somewhat blurry. The really strange thing about this is I've noticed that the blurriness only sets in momentarily after switching to the Start Screen, and that there's a brief split second where the tiles appear at their normal sharpness before changing to blurry.

To illustrate the issue I managed to get a screen grab just at the right moment when the tiles appear correctly, and another after they became blurry. I've taken a couple of tiles from these images as a comparison and attached it below.

I've tried reinstalling my graphics card (Intel HD 4000) drivers but had no joy. Does anyone know a way to fix this issue as it makes the move to Windows 10 look more like a downgrade. Thanks very much!

I have had this problem with Start screen tiles for some months. I had hoped it might go away with a either updates or some repairs to the Store or resets, but it persists. A proportion of the tiles, perhaps about 20%, are either completely blank or just show the text name of the app. The blank ones are the biggest nuisance, as I have to keep clicking them until I finally land on the one(s) I want. Some are or were live tiles, but no longer display anything.

Have you updated your graphics drivers recently? Some older drivers have been known to cause issues with Start menu & Start screen tiles.

Whenever I try to move the tiles after half a second, they snap back. If I unpin any tiles they re appear after a restart. I have no idea why they're doing this and it's so annoying. Does anyone know how to stop this?

Thanks,
Rick

Answer:Start screen tiles won't move.

From my experience, you have to create a new group to move the tiles. You can do this by dragging a tile to either the extreme right or left side of the screen, wait for the dividing bar to appear, and then releasing the tile. Once done, it should snap into the new group. As far as removing tiles, I simply unpin them from the start screen and they stay unpinned (eg, they don't come back). Good luck.

Considering the high resolutions seen on moderate sized tablets I can understand why the limited number of tile rows (7 max) would make sense. However, the Start screen would be easier to configure for my many productivity programs on a 24-in 1920x1600 monitor if there could more rows of tiles. 8 would fit nicely, perhaps even 9. Even better would be to be able to use the more icon-like "tiles" of the All Apps screen which would go a long way towards easing the pain for the power user's loss of the Start button.

I recently updated my phone to the Windows 10 Preview and after playing around with it for a while, I decided to roll back to WP 8.1 instead and wait for a better Windows 10 version to come out. However, after going back to WP 8.1, I noticed that my start screen wasn't the way it was supposed to be. Almost none of my apps were pinned to the start screen like I had them before. I figured I could just pin them back, but whenever I try to pin the apps, the option is grayed out for all of the apps I had pinned before. I'm assuming the phone is stuck thinking the apps are pinned even when they don't show up on the start screen, so my question is, is there a way to unpin the tiles even when they're not there? For most apps I could just uninstall and reinstall, but the problem arises when I try to pin apps that come with the phone like OneNote. I hard reset and starting fresh should do the trick, but I'd rather leave that as a last resort in case nothing else works. Any help is appreciated!

Answer:Is there a way to unpin tiles on start screen?

You need to wait for the apps to update it may take a couple of hours. Leave your phone on charge and connected to Wi Fi and it will sort itself out and you will be able to re pin the tiles

All the information on the tiles in your Start menu is stored in a database folder. I do not know of any way to access these entries and play around with the sort order. The folder is found here: C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Local\TileDataLayer\Database

Hi folks,
hopefully trivial one this........

Every time my father boots up XP, the USer select screen tells him he has two unread email messages - which is not the case (he has zero).

Any ideas how to clear/reset?

Thanks,
Heeb

Answer:Unread Emails

A little registry edit will cure this, have a look at this site for a guide.

Question: Unread Emails

Okay, I've set up 3 accounts on my computer. I have the administrative powers, and I also logged into another account. During that time, I signed into my Live MSN account to chat online, and I had 2 emails unread. But did not open them, when I logged off the account, I noticed that the account had a notice of 2 unread mails, as I did not open them.

Days later I decided to take that notice off, by signing into the other account, and checking my mails so it would register that I don't have any more in my inbox.

I have always checked my mails through the online website hotmail. And I did so, and cleared out my inbox.

But I still have the notice on the other account, and now on mine, even though my inbox is actually empty.

Does anyone know how I can fix this, or better yet, disable this option? It would help very much.
Many thanks

~ Nino

Answer:Unread Emails

Hi ill NinoI know of a way to do this but it involves tweaking the registry. If you decide to go through with this I suggest you back up your registry with EruntGo to Start and select run, in the run box type Regedit and click ok. Once Regedit has started navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail Once there Create a new DWORD (Right click in right hand pane, New>DWORD) called MessageExpiryDays Double click the DWORD MessageExpireyDays you just created and be sure the value is set to 0 (should be the default value if this is a new DWORD). If you only wish to make a change to your own user edit this registry key instead HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMailSource: MVPS. orgHowever, if your uncomfortable with tweaking the registry there are two fixes you can download on the MVPS link I gave. (Also if you aren't going to tweak it don't bother backing up ) One is to turn off unread emails on log on, the other is to turn it back on.

So, I guess I should explain...

I went into This Computer and went to my C:\ drive to attempt to clean things up and make my system run faster by compressing files to save space. Unfortunately, I clicked some of the wrong stuff and hid data that I'm pretty sure the computer thinks is important, and now my Metro tiles are missing.

Can somebody PLEASE help me restore them?

Under 8.0 Pro, as I added traditional desktop applications (i.e., Office 2013), the install would create both shortcuts in the traditional program menu as well as Tiles on the Metro start screen. After upgrading (in-place) to 8.1 Pro, all of the traditional applications and their shortcuts in the traditional program menu were still there, but the Tiles on the Metro start screen were gone.

How can I recreate Metro Tiles for my traditional desktop applications?

Answer:How to recreate desktop app Tiles to Start Screen?

Hello mfaklis,

In Windows 8.1, installed programs will now only place a shortcut on your "Apps" screen instead of "Start" by default now. You could go to your "Apps" screen and "Pin to Start" anything you wanted though. Option Two in the tutorial below can show you more on this.

Start Screen - Pin or Unpin App, Folder, or Drive in Windows 8

Hi everyone,

Is there an easy way to change my Start Screen tiles color so that it follows my theme color? Currently, the tiles are all in different colors and it is horribly ugly.

I have spent some time searching the internet for solutions but none of them suit my needs. All of them requires changing each tile manually and each time I pin something new to the Start Screen, I have to change the color for the tile manually again. I am looking for a simple solution to change the tile color to my theme color once and for all.

Thanks in advance : )

Answer:How to change Start Screen tiles color

This has been discussed by many - and so far Microsoft isn't listening. It seems to me Windows 8.1.1 update would have been a good place to include the ability to change tile colors, but from what I have seen of advance info on it, there is not tile color change included. There is no way except partial (MS Apps aren't included) using Olby Tile - [APP] OblyTile - Tile Creator for all programs. - xda-developers These tiles stay colored as shown, even after shutdown and restart, or restore operation. However, as indicated, I can't change the MS Applications.

Attached is what I was able to do with it on my Start Screen. Actually, my desktop Icon is blue also, instead of purple - screenshot somehow changed it.

Answer:Tiles Missing From windows 8 Start Screen

Hello Skitsmeister, and welcome to Eight Forums.

This is going to be a bit difficult since we both don't know you may have done to cause this, but you might open your Apps screen to see if you may be able to just "Pin to Start" any missing tiles if you just unpinned them by mistake.

Hope this may help,

I updated to build 10080 and for maybe like 5 days my phone was buttery smooth then all hell broke loose most apps that were working wouldn't open so I tried to do something I read somewhere on the interwebs of unpinning the apps and removing the background image and now after doing this I can no longer pin tiles on the start screen please help.

Answer:Help! I can't pin tiles to my start screen on build 10080

Sorry but there is no easy help for this.
Maybe just keep trying or power on off or a soft reset helps.
Or do a hard reset.
But all above are only suggestions and may or may not help because previews are "known" for there buggy behaviors.
But please also use the feedback app to report this to Microsoft.

Hi guys, wondering if anyone could help.
I have a touch-enabled desktop PC with a display size of 23 inches. As such, I like using the Start screen on 8.1 with touch, and desktop with mouse and keyboard, it's a combo that works very well for me. I hope that the same sort of experience carries over with Windows 10, but I haven't seen too much of the Continuum/full-screen Start yet in order to tell.
I've been wondering how many big columns of live tiles you can fit on a W10 start screen, for columns that are 3 medium tiles across and for columns that are 4 medium tiles across? I presume these numbers will be the same with a Start menu (instead of a screen) as well?
Additionally, will this vary depending on how big your screen size is recognised by Windows to be? For example, will a small tablet only be able to fit two columns yet my larger display be able to fit four? This kinda happens at the moment with 8.1 - I can fit 6 rows of tiles going downwards whereas smaller laptops can only fit 4.
Thank you for any help.

Hello,
I am using Windows 8. Every time I switch on my notebook, I see Tiles. But most of it are not used by me and I do not want to see them. Is there anyway I can remove them. Or, can I remove all the tiles and use a normal screen (ie, without tiles)?
Thanking you in advance.

You can right click on the Tiles and select Unpin from Start. Set your Windows 8 to boot directly to desktop and use Classic Shell.

I really like the convenience of the start screen in windows 8  ... the computer is finally starting to think in images like I do!  However, all the tiles seem to look alike.  For instance, any web page shortcut that I pin to the start page mostly just has writing on it and looks similar to any other tile.  Can I edit the tile to have a picture?  I have several shortcuts to web pages of friends and would like to put a photo of them so that I can quickly see the difference.

Answer:customize or edit tiles on start screen?

This is the only program I know.

You can edit some things, but not all.  I knew of a program that let you change the icon pack of the tiles, but I have forgotten it.

Mind you, you will have to change the extension of this from .ex_ to .exe.

I was trying to figure out why the Start screen looked odd--and then I noticed the app icons in the tiles are about 1/3 the size they were in Windows 8, so you've got (for example), a tiny W for Word in Windows 10 vs a more visible W in Windows 8.1. Only appears to apply to desktop apps, not store apps (e.g., Google, Adobe Reader Touch). Anyone else notice this?

Answer:Tiny icons in Start screen tiles

Yep, they're working on it. The icons were larger but very fuzzy in 10.0.122 (or 10.0.074) so they reverted to being clear and tiny in 10.0.130

This morning I found that my Start Screen had reverted to its factory setting. All the tiles I had deleted (Ebay, Netflix, Music, Games, and so on) were back again, and all the tiles I had added were gone -- about 60 tiles that were links to my folders and to certain programs, etc. Almost all of the links were to desktop apps or folders. I could pin them all back again, but I don't have a list of them. My desktop and my data are OK, but I need those tiles back. I've been on the phone with Microsoft, and they did a system restore from 12/26, but it didn't restore the tiles even though they were there yesterday. If I could just find a list of their names, it would be enough. Is there any folder that they might be in, or any other way to find such a list?

On the Windows XP sign on screen where it shows the users name with an icon, it also shows the number of unread e-mail messages. I have AOL, but I stopped using it a couple of years ago because it was too time consuming to sift through the 30 to 40 spam emails I received daily. We used to have an hotmail account set up through windows messenger.  Now that we changed ISPs we use internet through windows live.  I cant figure how to get it to say how many emails are unread on my actual account now, instead of this old one.  The problem is on the page right after you start up the computer, where you select which account to log into.  I have tried making windows live the default email browser, and making sure the .net passport is set up for the current email i want.  Help me out, how do I get it to change.

If you are using your old account for messenger, but using your new account for email, you will only be able to see emails for your old account, this cannot be changed. Hi guys
Is there a way to have all unread mail in win 10 mail be shown together and not have to go to accounts and click on each email account one at a time to see what's new

Answer:win 10 mail, unread emails

Windows Live mail will do that. I have 6 different email accounts on that.
You may have to download windows Live essentials to get it. It will show you everything that comes with it but if you just tick E-mail that is all that gets downloaded.
Or click on start menu. All apps and look for Windows Live mail and see if it is on there already , If not you have to download it.

When I try to arrange the tiles pinned in the new full screen Start Menu, they all slide next to each other in columns of 2.

But I can't figure out how to set the tiles anywhere I want. Or set the column spacers. Everything just slides to the top left.

Like say I have 20 tiles, and I wanted to arrange them like this:

Answer:How to arrange tiles in the new full screen Start Menu?

The Start Screen doesn't really allow for negative space like that.

Here's mine. It really just takes a bit of finagle, you click and drag and work it. If you have a tile, you can build a new column by going in between the tiles, in you case it might need to be the end of the Start Screen, and a clear white bar appears that shows the new column.

Hi!
Over the past few days, I've noticed that the Live-Tiles for the Bing apps have stopped updating on the Windows 8.1 Start screen. I currently have Weather, Bing News, Food & Drink, and Health & Fitness installed. They are only showing the blank default icons. I have checked that they are set to live tile and not static. The apps appear to work ok if I click on them to open them - the weather app is the one I use most often, and I find now that it has to refresh on opening....
Other Live-Tiles are working just fine!
The Bing apps on my W8 phone work OK too, so I wondered if anyone else has noticed this, or have I missed a news item somewhere mentioning it?
Thanks :)

Answer:Problem with Bing Live Tiles on W 8.1 Start Screen?

Check your data limit for updating of live tiles. On Windows 8 or 8.1, go to charms > settings > tiles. Then change the limit by selecting from the drop-down menu.
It should look more or less like this:
If the problem is still there, there might be some problem with the Bing apps or it may be a W8.1 bug (there are loads of them).

I'm running Windows 7 and using Windows Live Mail for Email. I delete all old incoming Emails every few days, but sometimes let the Deleted file grow to over a thousand. A few weeks ago, hundreds of old, deleted Emails showed up as 'New' (incoming) Emails. So I deleted them again, and then emptied the entire contents of the Deleted file. A few days or so later, old, deleted Emails showed up again as new ones. So I deleted them again, along with old Sent Emails, emptied the Recycle Bin, and thought that would surely work. It did not: the problem reappeared yesterday, when more than a hundred deleted Emails appeared in my In Box. I deleted them again from there, then in the Deleted file, along with those in my Sent file and Junk file. Has anyone experienced this? (I hate to give up on Windows Live Mail and use a different Email address.)
Thanks

I have fifteen "emails" in the unread emails box that cannot be deleted. They are somehow left over from the enormous number of folders and emails transferred to WLM from Win Mail. If I click on them, I get a "Message Cannot Be Displayed" message. They are in bold and with a little yellow envelope on their left. Many times I've marked them as read and tried to delete them. They will then turn color as if they have been read, but when I try to delete them they go back to the "unread" look. Like the old Baptist choir, they will not be moved. I can live with this small problem, but I'd much rather solve it. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Don.

Are you installing a lot of desktop apps and wish they had colourful eye catching tiles like Modern UI apps do? If so then check out this I tutorial I wrote
Both are very simple tweaks. the first one you may already know about and I am not sure how it works on lower powered machines due to running in the background but from taking a guess, Most mid range computers should be able to have it without any performance change, but Netbooks I think should stay from using it because it likely will slow down your netbook (taking a guess so little warning thats all).
The app tiles task, that may take a while depending on the amount of apps you have, but it certainly makes it a lot easier to find each app quickly.
Hope these two tutorials come out useful for you all and hope that it is understandable for less tech savy people.

I've got a 1680x1050 monitor and when there's 10 medium sized tiles across the screen, it activates the scroll bar, but there's no need for the scroll bar as all the tiles fit on the screen fine and scrolling only shifts them by a few pixels.

Ever since Windows 10 was released a year ago, I've had issues with the Mail client - every day as I open it for the first time, a random amount of emails (1-3 or so) in a few of my folders are marked as unread. This only affects the counters in the left bar, and not the actual list of emails - I have to manually mark as unread and then click on them again to get the counters away. I keep hoping for updates to fix this but so far it's been the case since a year back. Is anyone else experiencing this and have an idea of how to fix it? It only seems to happen the first time I start the client after booting my computer up, it doesn't happen throughout the day - but it does happen on both my Surface and 2 desktop computers.

I'm using Outlook for my email within a public school system. When I first open up my mailbox, if I don't open the top message first it will go unbold as soon as I open another email. If I'm not paying attention, I will later think that I've read that email because it's no longer bold. I've tried many things but am unable to make it stop. My screen is split so that you can see what the message is for whatever email the cursor is resting on. If I change the screen so that it's not split, that is the only way to keep unread messages from going unbold. How can I make it stop doing that?

In the navigation pane (the box on the left) click the plus sign next to Search Folders and the submenu should drop down. Select the Unread Mail folder. Does anything show up in there? So you're saying you have absolutely no mail in your inbox, read or unread?

Also, the webmail is separate than you outlook. What might have been read in outlook might not have using your webmail. And vise versa.

Is there a setting that will mark each thread as read after you view it and continue until a new posting (reply) is made then turn off? This makes it easy to see new postings and save rereading unchanged threads.

Recently I have seen titles show in Blue after reading and Black before reading. This was helpful but now has disappeared and now all are again Black most Bold.

Your help in reestablishing this marking of read vs unread will be appreciated.

(I am aware of down arrows and removal of Bold from read title. The Blue titles were more impressive.)

If I fill any Windows phone or Windows 10 mobile start screen with live tiles. Will all the live tiles flip simultaneously or will Windows OS pause few apps and let other apps update their tiles?

Answer:Windows phone start screen filled with full of live tiles.

"Filling" up a start screen with live tiles is unclear - do you just want to fill in the screen without making it scroll or would you like to make the screen scroll down almost indefinitely?
In any case, however, Windows Phone doesn't update all of the tiles "simultaneously", but rather in a staggered manner to conserve resources. The flipping is also not simultaneous.
I HAD a Windows Phone - a Lumia 1020 running Windows 10 Mobile preview (one of the last OS versions) - and I had over 60 pinned, around 20-30 of them were Live Tiles. I noticed that they don't get updated all at once, but more of "one after the other".
The apps and tiles are almost always "paused", since the OS will not update them continuously but rather at a pre-determined interval.

Hi,

We have had a look at doing this but cannot find a way to achieve this task.
Any ideas?

Answer:USMT 5.0 Migrate Pinned Start Screen Tiles and Taskbar Icons?

Hi?
This is part of the CONFIG.xml, USMT can migrate these settings.

<component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-stobject" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-stobject/microsoft-windows-stobject/settings"/>
<component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-explorer" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-explorer/microsoft-windows-explorer/settings"/>

The Start screen replaces the Start menu in Windows 8\8.1. This option still can be used in Windows 8\8.1

thx

Answer:Set all apps as default instead pined tiles in full screen start menu

There is little you can do to modify or adapt Win 10s start menu.

If you want a different style of menu, try (as many recommend here) Classic Shell start menu- no tiles, but very configurable from Win 7-like to columns across the screen.

It can launch unviersal apps too, and you can still launch Win 10's s. menu if you want to.
