Preferred Solution: I turned on narrator and I turned it back off now my screen is black and white, did I do something wrong?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: I turned on narrator and I turned it back off now my screen is black and white, did I do something wrong?

Check Settings -> Ease of Access for "High Contrast", that's what it sounds like.

Hi! A few days ago my desktop screen went black and white. The startup screen before logging into my laptop is still in color. Any suggestions to how I can fix this? I have looked around in the settings, but can't find any setting there that is out of place. I have also done another update since then to see if that would help, but the screen is still in black and white. Thank you for any advice

I have a Lenovo X201 Tablet that goes black when the screen is turned around. I have to force it to shut down and on restart can vaguely see Thinkvantage sign at the beginning, but then the screen stays completely black. If I let it sit for a few hours, I am able to start it just fine. Thought it was hardware issue and had the company send me a new shell. Had the same problem with the new shell.Any suggestions on how to fix this?IT helpdesk at my company could not fix the problem.

Hi guys,

I have an acer aspire one KAV60 mini laptop, It was dropped and the LCD panel was broken. I used it with an external VGA monitor while the ebay LCD purchased arrived home. I didnt use the laptop for 1 month.

Today the LCD panel arrived, I changed it right away. But as soon I connected the flex cable LCD panel when On with a white light like if the LED Backlight was connected directly.

Laptop was turned off when this happens. If I turn the laptop On, then the LCD panel goes black (Led light turns off) HD powers on, vent powers on, power led is on, if I plug the AC adapter then charge led is on; but no Bios logo at all. Like if the BIOS operations where dead at all.

LCD was used but in good shape as quoted by the seller on ebay. Now, if the screen was in "short circuit" when purchased could this mess up the whole laptop? Could a defective LCD panel cause the motherboard to die?

Or could the motherboard die just becaus it cans, and that to be the reason why the LCD panel goes on white light? What do you think can be wrong now with my laptop?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Acer KAV60: LCD is white when turned off, no image when turned on

It could be a defective inverter or LCD panel. I would try a new inverter first

I am running Windows XP Home Media Center Edition version 2002 Service Pack 2 on a Gateway FX 530 XM purchased in November of 2006. Intel Core2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13 GHz with 2 GB RAM.

There is a problem that has been present in this computer from the day I bought it which I really must address.

When the computer is turned off and then turned back on, I lose Internet access. In a few minutes a message balloon pops up in the notification area. It asks me to click and then a window opens asking me to repair the
Internet connection. The first attempt always fails. The second one is
successful. Basically turning the computer off then on costs me about ten minutes after Windows loads before I can go online. This does not happen with a restart; it only happens with an off-on.

The exact process the first try is: Repair Local Area Connection > Renewing your IP address > Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action could not be completed: Renewing your IP address

Then I click repair again and it works.

This is a problem because we are getting more brief power outages. Yes I could work around the problem with an uninterrupted power source, but I'd like to fix the problem. It is also a problem because in the past it didn't happen every time. Now it almost always happens.

A second computer on the same cable router will always be able to get on line.

A while back I e-mailed Gateway. I was told to do three things.... Read more

Answer:Lost Internet Access after Computer turned off then turned back on.

I told Gateway that another computer on the same wired router has no connectivity problems. Gateway recommend contacting my ISP and he manufacturer of the router (Linksys) to check the Internet sharing. They said that "The issue you are having right now is due to your configuration. The other system may connect properly from the Internet but the other system may not due to improper configuration of sharing your connection".

I certainly don't look forward to contacting my ISP and am not sure what I would even ask them. For that matter, I'm not sure I would ask Linksys or what is the best way to find information on the router settings. Gateway did not offer much information.

I recently got an update from Microsoft on Win 7, and immediately after it had finished updating I had no sound in any application (AIM, Skype, Chrome, Firefox, Youtube, etc.). This has happened before, and I ran Microsoft's Sound problems wizard and it always said that an option had been clicked off and that it had restored it. This time when I ran the wizard it says it detects no problems. I am sure it is the software, as it happens a lot with MS updates. Will downloading a new driver help? I can't go back to a previous configuration, I don't have one to go to. What should I Do? A computer without sound is like a bicycle without wheels.

I downloaded a security update for Java. Restarted and the result was my black desktop text turned to white.
Tried several ways to change it back including an almost white background, several light colors and restarting. (Iwas succesful one time doing that) Tried a registry hack in colors and app workplace, changed values to 000 according to one suggestion. Didn't work
Don't mind doing registry hacks if anyone has a suggestion on turning white desktop text back to black.
Seems like MS would have a fix for this. Thank you

Not sure if this will help but try this.
Type sysdm.cpl in start search and hit Enter to open System properties. Click on Advanced tab and then Settings button. Here ensure that Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop is checked.
Next right-click on the desktop and select. Personalization. Here ensure that a Solid color is selected as the background and that the color is NOT white.
Does this help?

I'm very new here so I'll do my best to provide the info needed to answer this question. The setup:  Sony computer (sorry, not much more detail because the computer is at my office), I loaded a free trial game called Wedding Dash 2 from Big Fish Games.  I have been a member at BFG for over a year with no previous incidents.  When I started the game, a box popped up telling me to adjust my screen resolution.  The current setting was 1024x7??.  I changed it to ???x1024 as requested.  When I pressed apply, the option to continue with or without a restart came up.  I chose to continue without restart.  I played the game and approx. an hour later the game screen turned black then immediately turned white.I have tried everything I can think of to clear this problem.  I finally disconnected all power, telephone and DSL lines.  That is how I left it.  My boss is out of town until Monday so I need to get this fixed before she come back.  We are a very small company with no IT department.

Answer:Computer screen has turned white

Re-boot the machine...Even if you get a white screen try right clicking any area and select Properties...Then select Settings and choose 1024X768 and hit apply.Re-boot for changes to take effect...If this does not work you have to do it from safe mode...To enter safe mode turn on the machine and tap F8 repeatedly on power up and before you see the Windows splash screen...You will see a black and white screen filled with items loading...this is normal so let it finish. At the prompt screen select safe mode and hit enter. Then repeat the above procedure.

hi Harsha_28,

Welcome to the Forums.

If the black patch is similar to the picture below then the issue is most likely with the LCD assembly  - possibly dead pixels (you can verify this by connecting an external monitor via the VGA port).

If you're in India, I recommend you contact Lenovo and report the issue.

Hey my Acer pc desktop has recently turned black.I restarted the computer but it didn't do anything but it pops up with documents for no reason. i was going to get someone out but i thought i would ask yous first.

Answer:my screen has turned black!!!

Black screen and then documents starting themselves on reboot sounds very odd. If you have the system restore CD or DVD,  would boot your system off of that disk and then perform a repair installation or a restore with keeping your data instead of a full system restore that would wipe out all your data. Sounds like corruption instead of hardware issue with documents launching to open on own at boot.

Hi niotic,

Do you have your Win 7 DVD or Win 7 64bit recovery disc?

Boot from your windows dvd/recovery disk and run a system file check to replace the original files -

SFC /SCANNOW : Run in Command Prompt at Boot

Check your drive is C and type:

sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows

You should get a message after scan saying windows resource protection has sucessfully repaired some files.

Type exit and click restart.

If you dont have a recovery disc:

System Repair Disc - Create

Post back any progress

I did a really dumb thing.  My laptop screen started getting permanent vertical lines and one day there was a huge one appearing taking up about 1/6 of the screen.   I decided to fool around with the video adapter and I made it run at it's most basic (trying to put less stress on the video, I thought.  Sorry, I learn only when I have problems.  This is a new one, so bare with me.I thought it was a good idea to turn off the video card/adapter (ATI Radeon 9700), but the line stayed.  A new video adapter came in its place, I imagine the basic default one for the computer, and I chose to turn that one off as well.  It asked me to restart, and I did.  Now I get BLACK SCREEN.I can restart the computer, it boots and I can hear the programs loading up.  If I click around blindly with my mouse, I can open some programs and hear them running.  So windows XP Home, is loading fine, but everything is hidden behind the black screen.I tried doing a system restore, but no dice.  I fooled around with the XP repair, but am too new at it and didn't want to screw things up any further.I found this thread on this forum http://www.computerhope.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1152314998/0#0and checked out http://www.myfixes.com/articles/systemI tried doing Step A, but when I came to fixboot, it asks "are you sure you want to write a new bootsector to the partition c?"  I don't really know what this will do, and I'm w... Answer:Turned off my videocard - black screen!

Now I am a little confused. All of these changes were done within Windows, right? YOu have not played with any of the BIOS settings? Well it sounds like there are MULTIPLE issues here, mostly self induced. If the BIOS is not involved:1) You can physically remove that drive and slave it to a working machine with an adapter and save your data.2)  You can boot a Linux LiveCD to see if the hard drive can be read and back up any data if it can be that you need. If that doesn't work, you  know for sure it is hardware. You can download the file on a working machine and burn it as an ISO with Nero, etc. and then boot with it. It will not write any files to the hard drive and is a great test.  http://www.slax.org/download.php The files could be copied to a pen drive, across a network, etc, and then Windows reinstalled.

So, I just got a brand new Samsung laptop about a week ago. It is a gaming computer. It's been running fine, but now I have a problem.
I had two tabs and a game open on my computer, I was on one of the tabs when this happened. My screen froze, and there was some bars that went across the screen (small bars) So, I held down the power button to turn it off. I then tried to turn it on again. The power buttoned turned blue (like normal) but the screen stays black. No Samsung logo like it does when it's usually starting up.
Does anyone know what the problem is and how it can be solved? I unplugged and took the battery out, just thinking it needs to be rested for a bit.
When this happened, it was quite hot, it has probably been on for 12 hours, and this is daily too. Is it just because of overheating?

Hello guys, I bought my HP 14-r000ne Notebook  about two weeks back, and since day 1 when I was configuring i ran into a problem. I have set that the display to turn off after 10 minutes, and when it does and I try to turn it on again by moving the mouse or hitting the keyboard keys nothing works and the screen keeps blank while i can see the lights on the keyboard and the hard disk light are on. the only way to turn it on again is by having it goes to sleep mode then it would work.Same thing happens if i turn it off (as in windows 8, the laptop doesnt completely turns off, when I try to put it back on, it starts but also the screen remains blank), the only solution here is to keep pressing the power button so it goes to a complete shutdown, or changing the power option and uncheck the fast turn on option. What I did then, is I have gone to the advance troubleshooting and made a system refresh, where things worked fine for about two weeks, until today the problem started again exactly like before. Any suggestions on what to do?thank you

Answer:My screen doesn't come back on after Display is turned off

Hey @Chadik , Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand you're having issues with turning off the display and shutting down the notebook. Typically the shutdown issue is the result of the hibernate feature being enabled. You can disable this so the notebook completely shuts down instead of going into hibernate. To do this:Press Windows Key + X.Click Power Options.Click Choose what the power buttons do.Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.Uncheck Hibernate.Click Save changes.I would also suggest checking the touchpad options to make sure it is allowed to wake the notebook. To do this:Press Windows Key + X.Click Device Manager.Expand Mice and other pointing devices.Right-click the touchpad.Choose Properties.Click the Power Management tab.Make sure the box titled Allow this device to wake the computer is checked.Click OK.If a system restore temporarily resolves the issue its possible a setting is being changed or a Windows update is causing the issue. Try restoring the default power plan settings in the Power Options window. Let me know if any of that helps!

But the computer runs properly.  I can still input, even use Alt+F4 to turn off the computer. Currently, closing the screen panel and re-opening it can activiate the screen.Or use Fn+F4 and turn computer on to activate the screen. However, both of the solution will disconnect the network, which is unacceptable. Is there anyone who experienced this problem?Do you have any suggestions?  Thanks!

I don't know if this is the right section to post in if its not you can move it.

I was on Facebook when a blue screen of death showed up, so i restarted my laptop. After i restarted it went to the screen where it asks if you want to start windows normally or you can choose safe mode, i pressed Enter on normal. But then it froze there so i restarted again but this time the screen was all black like the monitor was off, but it wasn't because on the bottom it had the blue light indicating it was on. Also i haven't installed any new hard drives or anything like that. So far all i tried was take the battery out and hold the power for 30-60 sec. Unless i did it wrong because i took out the rechargeable ion battery, hold for 30-60 sec, plugged in the ac adapter turned it on without battery ( still black screen ), put in battery turned on but still black screen.

My Gateway laptop is model W340UA, Windows Vista

Help is much appreciated.

When turning on this HP DV6000 Laptop, I keep getting a black screen while all the led lights go on as normal.
I tried to put an Operating System disk to format but on booting, nothing comes on screen.

All help appreciated

Answer:HP Laptop dv6000 - Black Screen when turned on

Do you usually get a bios screen? or did it used to boot straight into windows? If you did get a bios screen do you get that now? If not sounds like a problem with the monitor connections/monitor itself. If you never taken a laptop apart i'd advise getting it professional repaired.

I bought a lenovo ideapad 320 from Walmart 4 months ago and it broke 2 weeks after I bought it. I'm posting this now because I put it aside for so long but now I need it for school. I turned it on one day and all of a sudden the screen was jet black. Plus if I turn it off I have to hold down the power button but if I turn it on it just comes back on with 1 quick press. Whats up with that? Is it because my laptop isn't turning off all the way? I already tried the hard reset method (taking out battery, holding down power button for X seconds) and cleaning the ram stick but nothing seems to work. Do you think it might be the LCD screen?

Hi
I've just bought some new hardware for my comp and tried to install windows xp professional. I got to the beginning of the 2nd phase of the installation and thats all. I changed my ram settings in bios after finding some information which I thought would help and now my pc turns on but I have a black screen....
I know the xp disc works fine as I used it on my other pc on the same day and that works fine.
If this helps this is what im using at the moment.

ASUS M2N32-SLI DELUXE Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6400+
OCZ Revision 2 2 GB PC2-6400 DDR2 Memory
Ive managed to reset the cmos so the black screen problem has gone, but now I manage to get in to the 2nd part of the installation which goes for about 3 mins and then blue screens.

Hi all,I really appreciate your help. The laptop is a 15-d097nr Touchbook.Lead-up to the problem: I turned it on as I do every day and found that Windows was doing its automatic updates at the most impertinent time. After waiting a long time for these to finish, I became frustrated and (foolishly) decided to turn the laptop off using the power button, thinking that I could deal with the updates later. When I turned it back on today, the following issues/behavior became evident:1. As soon as it is turned on, the black screen with the HP logo and that cycling "loading" thing shows, as usual. The fan and even the Wi-Fi light on F12 are working.2. This screen is up for a very long time... then, at the bottom, a message stating "Scanning and Repairing Drive C:" or something close to that shows up. There is no percentage after this message (I've read other people who have a percentage loading after this, but not me). The HP logo is still visible.3. The message and the HP logo screen last a long time before the screen turns black (but not off). This black screen lasts another 30 minutes or so before the loading cursor finally appears. Nothing else happens.4. The screen turns off after a while if I don't touch the pad, etc.., presumably going to sleep, like it does when it is functioning normally.I've scoured the HP forums and done the following, to no avail:1. Taking the battery out, turning it off and on, etc...2. I've restored the BIOS as shown on this website. The BIOS restoration... Read more

This morning my computer froze, so I turned the computer off and turned it back on again. When I got to the login screen I logged in and it had a black screen for a little while and I could move the mouse around. After about a minute it gives me a blue screen and restarts. When I tried to go into safe mode the computer froze. I can access task manager in the minute before it crashes, so I tried ending explorer.exe and re run it. Did not work.

Edit: It also occasionally can't find the HDD to boot from. It happens on an off.

I don't know if the failure was just because the hard drive was old or if it was a virus. Hi, I have already posted about this issue here:  http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/x360-spectre-keyboard-disabled-when-sc... However, none of the responses seemed to address my problem.   I want to be able to use the keyboard on my Spectre x360 when the screen is rotated all the way back 360 degrees. Tablet mode is OFF. I have tried tilting the laptop. Neither method works. If there is no other way to use the laptop's keyboard while the screen is flipped back, can someone please advise how I can disable the orientation sensor.  My external monitor is basically unusable if I can't fix this issue, since I have no space on my desk for both the laptop and the monitor and need to be able to fold the screen back so I can use both at once. Thank you for your helpS

I am having a problem with my Satellite A200.

When the screen is open the back-light is turned off. You can faintly see the screen it still switched on but it's too faint to read.
When you close the lid you can see the screen back-light comes on, it stays on for just under a second when you re-open the lid but then turns off again.

I guess that it has something to do with the lid switch being faulty.
Can anyone suggest any solutions.

Many Thanks
Anthony

Answer:Satellite A200 screen back-light is turned off

This part of the message is very interesting:
>You can faintly see the screen it still switched on but it's too faint to read.

According to your description you can see the screen and possibly the desktop too but the whole display is very faint like behind a thick fog.
Could it be right?

Well, I think this issue could be related to the FL inverter malfunction.
The FL inverter is a tiny part hidden behind the screen frame and it controls the screen?s backlight.

In my opinion this part should be checked by a notebook technician.

I am using windows 7.If I start it with power supply everything is fine. But if I will disconnect power and try to turn on VN7-591G it will only boot up to moment after successful login. After that there is only black screen. I think there might be a problem with slow CPU speed, but I do not know how to determine it. Also there is no difference if it booting from completely off state or from sleep mode. No power supply and the booting time means reset :/Anyone can help me with this?Best Regards,Avien

i installed windows 8 on my new pc who includes Shappire 7870 xt boost and monitor Samsung T220. whether i turned off the monitor manually or it turns off automatic by power saver, sometimes the monitor shows only black screen. The monitor does turns on, it's light turn on, but all i get is black screen.

i also have I5 4570 and Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H.after i installed windows, i installed the motherboard drivers, includes Intel HD Graphics 4600. Could it conflicts with the ATI's driver?

also, when i connect the monitor to the motherboard it works fine (so far at least). but games doesn't run smoothly.

Answer:Monitor shows black screen after been turned off manually

Hello matizami, and welcome to EightForums,

If your monitor works fine when connected to the motherboard, then the issue lies with your graphic card. Make sure you're running the latest drivers for your graphic card. Go here to update them.

Your motherboard drivers won't conflict conflict with ATI drivers.

Like it says in the title, games were running perfectly fine until recently. My screen suddenly turned black, and when it came back, the resolution was huge on my computer and all of my games went from being playable to incredibly low FPS, and it has been stuck that way ever since. Here is what I have tried so far:
-I did not install any new software recently
-I restarted the computer, which did not resolve the issue
-I reinstalled windows, which also did not help
-Updated all my drivers

Hi, Could someone please help me with my laptop. I have  a Dell Inspiron E1405 and when I turn it on I get a very dark screen, after I press F8 and get into safe mode I can slightly make it the words and it takes me to my desktop, but it is extremely dark to see much.I have to say this problem started 2 days ago and initially once I would start the computer the Dell logo would come on followed by a clicking sound and the black screen. A few nights ago I accidentaly ran into the wall carrying my laptop, but it was working fine. Could this dark screen be due to a loose cable or do you need to get a new lcd?I would really appreciate any help.Thank you.M.

Answer:Dark screen on laptop when turned on, not completely black. Please help,

Have you tried the keys that change the brightness of your screen?  Maybe they were hit inadvertently.  I have a dell latitude.  The keys for screen brightness are on the bottom right.  There are blue circle-like pics on the up and down arrow keys.  Since the screen brightness function is blue, if I want to use that and not the up/down arrows I have to press the key w/the blue Fn on it while I press the screen brightness keys.  The blue Fn key is to the left next to the Ctrl key.

I owodified Y410p which started malfunctioning roughly about 2 months ago. First it took progressively longer time for Lenovo logo to show up. First 3 minutes, then 5, yesterday 15, and today 40 minutes have passed and the screen remains black. Once it gets to Lenovo, everything is okay. When the power button is pushed, everything starts bormally. Keyboard light on , fan on, the laptop deels warm, and even the CD unit can be opened and closed - but the screen won't immediately load.

Answer:Y410P screen stays black for a long time after turned on

(So hard to use the forums for smartphone **bleep**) Continuation of above: I have tried some simple solutions like power button 20 seconds or Shift-F8 and none works. Some say that Windows 10 might be the problem but I've installed mine for 2 yrars and no problem has arised about it. I hope someone could suggest me something before ai have to bring it to the service centre (if I must). Thanks.

Hello, I'm unsure if this will be a continuous problem for me, this is the first that it's happened, so I decided to ask here to see what caused this, if anyone knows.
This morning, booted my laptop. It remained a black screen and then started beeping. I can't say how many beeps there were, I want to say it was either 4 or 8 though. Hard powered it off in fear, and then unplugged the laptop. To my surprise, when it was unplugged, it turned back on and now it seems to be working fine.
My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 15, 5000 Series, and I've had it for less than a month, so if it's anything major, warranty I assume would cover it. But wanted to ask first, if this was an error of some sort or if this is a sign of something serious. It's been working fine before, this is a first for it.

Answer:Laptop Beeped and Black Screen When Start Up, Turned On When Unplugged

4 beeps = memory error
8 beeps = display panel not recognized.
Start with a call to Dell support (you'll need to walk through troubleshooting before service/repair is authorized).

When I turn on my Lenovo X1 Carbon 3 if it is unplugged, it will load normally to the lock screen and then the screen just turn black, the power button will flash on and off green, and nothing will happen even if I try to turn the power on.  If the laptop is plugged in, it will work normally and if unplugged after I log into the computer it works normally too.

Answer:Lenovo X1 Carbon 3 screen turns black if turned on unplugged

This happens to me whether plugged or unplugged and I leave it sitting for a while. It seems to go into a super deep hibernation that refuses to wake up with the blinking green LED.So I actually have to HOLD the power button down for ~5 seconds, and restart the computer. I don't know if there is a solution but it might have to do with the power settings in Windows. The odd thing is that might not be true because I run Ubuntu as well and have the same issue so those Windows Power rules don't apply! Also, my firmware is the latest.

My services were offered by my father to a guy to install a dual boot on his system. I have done this procedure before so I felt fairly comfortable doing it on a system belonging to a business. However, mid dual boot procedure I start recieving BootMGR Missing Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to reboot. Immediatly I hit google; however, all given solutions prove to be negative in fixing.
The gentalman was supposed to have backed up his system for me, the words out of his mouth are "I'm doing as we speak". Vista came preinstalled so I have no Vista Home Premium x64 disks. So, I call up the guy and he says somethings came up and he couldn't make them but what ever I do make sure I get vista working again, don't lose his stuff.
Now it's forget the dual boot just get vista back, but this damn BootMGR won't stop popping up. I'm at a loss of things to do.

My external hard drive has a problem where all the folders have turned into 33KB applications. When I click on the folder, the content in the folder will appear in a new window, however if I try to copy the folder, only the 33KB application will move. If I try to drag other objects into that folder, I get an error saying "the path '[folder name]' does not exist or is not a directory". I originally had this problem on my computer, and also my chrome browser stopped working because of an error saying it was a "bad image", however I had my computer wiped so now this problem is only on my external hard drive. Also, I haven't been granted administrator's rights by my administrator, so I can only use my current antivirus program (symantec endpoint protection), or portable programs, and I can't edit the registry  Thank you

Hello and welcome to Computer Hope Forum. My name is Dave. I will be helping you out with your particular problem on your computer. 1. I will be working on your Malware issues. This may or may not solve other issues you have with your machine.2. The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.3. If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to ask.4. Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans while I am helping you.5. It is important that you reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.6. Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.7. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear. If you can't access the internet with your infected computer you will have to download and transfer any programs to the computer you're using now and transfer them to the infected computer with a CD-RW or a USB storage device. I prefer a CD because a storage device can get infected. If you use a storage device hold the shift key down while inserting the USB storage device for about 10 secs. You will also have to transfer the logs you receive back to the good computer using the same method until we can get the computer back on-line. *******************************************************If you wiped(reformatted) your harddrive why not reformat the external harddrive?

Hey guys,

Hoping somebody can help with this issue Im having with my HDTV. When it is turned on it starts to fade from a black screen to a white one and does not respond to any button presses either on the television itself or on the remote. I'm willing to attempt a repair myself but am a bit of a novice with television repair. If I could get an idea of what part is failing that would cause this problem it would be a great start.

I've included an image, as you can see the white doesnt extend to the edge of the tv.

Thanks guys.

I tried to use a restore point but it did nothing, the icons were still the white boxes.

earlier i was defragmenting but stopped it at about 42% , would that be the cause of the problem?

nothing else really happened, i think it was a bit random.

does anybody know why all my icons are like this? and if there is a way for this to be undone?

heres a picture of what they turned into.

Answer:most of the icons on my desktop turned into white squares

Hello and welcome to TSF

Please do this:

Download TweakUI (click on the colored link), the download is on the right side of the page. Save it to your desktop.

When the download is finished, double click on it, this should install it. When installed, Click Start, All Programs, Powertoys for Windows XP, click Tweak UI.

When Tweak UI is loaded click on Repair then on Rebuild Icons and click Repair, then Apply and Ok.

24 hours ago, I don't recall it being white, I thought it was a dark gray, that matched the task bar. Did an update change this, or did I?

Any suggestions as to how to change it..and if it WAS another "brilliant move" on my part.. How to avoid doing it again, would be appreciated.

I was playing War of the roses earlier, and my pc decided to turn off for no reason. I thought, ok, I'll just turn it back on after dinner and continue playing. But when I pressed the on button, nothing happened. I tried a few more times and opened up my case. I unplugged the power cable then plugged it back in, and the CPU fan turned on for about a second, then went dead, and this happens everytime I unplug and replug. I'm pretty certain it's a PSU fault, but I just need someone to clarify this for me before I buy a new one. If it isn't a PSU problem then please tell me what else it could be and what I should do about it? By the way, I only built it a week ago, so my warranty is still valid, if that changes anything. Thanks in advance <3

Answer:PC turned off randomly, hasn't turned on since, PSU problem?

I rebooted the computer and when I got my desktop back all the cons for third party apps are the default white icon as you can see in my screenshot.

I have tried re-building the icon cache by following the instructions on the forum Icon Cache - Rebuild

I can rebuild from a 3 day old image backup but I don't want to have to do that! Anyone got any more tips for trying to work it out - I tried to change one or two manually using the properties/change icon but that did not stay changed for some reason.

Answer:Rebooted the computer and all my desktop icons turned white

you could try doing a system restore to a previous point where your icons were working; this is my only suggestion other than to try re-building the icon cache again

For some reason my search bar went white. I googled this & seems other having issue also & tried this but works & goes back to grey till u type in search bar then goes white again.
Settings - Time & language - Region & language. Change your country to Gabon.Sign out.Sign back in. The Cortana search box will be gone as Cortana is not available in Gabon.Go back into Settings and change your country back to the proper one. The Cortana search box will come back, but now it'll be black instead of white.

This does not work on 1709.

Dear everybody,

I have a Asus G73JW laptop with 2 x 500gb HDD, both has two partitions;
Win7 ultimate; 64 bit;
Nvidia geforce GTX460M, 1,5gb;
CPU: :Intel Core i7 - 740QM, 1,73 GHz; Ram = 8GB;
EAX advanced HD 5.0; THX trustudio
Security: AVG antivirus with windows firewall on at all times.
This laptop has not been the same since my wife, accidentally opened a zip file which was attached to an e-mail. I reinstalled windows [ must admit I did not format the windows partition, before installing it ]. I restarted after each and every installation of the different drivers. I got the 1st BSOD whilst installing Nvidia drivers. After this I started getting random BSOD on shut down and start up. I uninstalled the Nvidia driver and restarted the laptop and noticed that it installed an older driver for Nvidia. It was okay for a couple of days , but then I got a BSOD boot loop, I then did a MBR repair which seemed to work for a couple of weeks. This past weekend my wife and I was on sites advertising cars that are for sale and used google maps to get to the different dealers. The laptop's power cable disconnected by accident, battery went flat during the night and when I restarted it , it initially showed a BSOD, restarted and since then I get this black screen of death. The Asus logo does not even come up, the keyboard lights come on and you can hear the HDD running and later the DVD drive, but nothing else happens. I cannot get into the BIOS [ F2 is suppose to get you into it, but ... Read more

Answer:BSOD turned into "Black screen of death" -cannot boot into BIOS.

Hi,

Firstly keep your wife off the machine

Try this (It may or may not work):

Shutdown the computer and remove power lead, take out the battery and press the
power button for 40-45 seconds then reattach the battery and plug in the power cord.

Does the laptop boot now?

cheers

Work through these same steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start
to disinfect and then check System Files, before confirming the Partition Marked Active is System Reserved (preferred if u have it) or C to run Startup Repair - Run up to 3 Separate Times

I'm using XP Pro sp2 (pentium dual core 2.6 GHZ and 3 gb Ram with Webroot SpySweeper and AVG Free and Free Avast and it's been working great with 2 anti-virus programs for about 1.5 years. That's not the problem, but I think it's some kind of Root Kit Virus that turned the task bar white, it was blue when it was running great, and Webroot lost it's sheduling,(I can't set scan shedules), and in System Properties (can't view devices), and Avast is shut down (can't start it). I uninstalled Avast and then reinstalled it, same problem.
AVG is working perfectly, scanning on shedule and updating ok. AVG found 22 registry errors and took care of them. Webroot SpySweeper works ok but can't shedule scans.
All other programs work ok and open rather fast.
I ran RKill,Unhide, Combo Fix and TDSS Killer and still have the same problem.
Anybody have any Ideas what's going on here, I would greatly appreciate any help.
Thanks
Richy

I turned my HP 15-R006TU laptop to hibernate mode before going to sleep last night. Today morning when I turned it on left half of the screen was white with some lines in it. All the softwares and the OS works fine. Its like there is a white cover on the left side of screen. I can't access start menu because it is on the left side of screen.  I switched off my laptop and disconnected the adapter from it, then turned back on, but it remains same. I have not changed any drivers or anything recently. I have windows 7 ultimate 64 bit and I use Tata Photon Max dongle for internet. My laptop is only 2 years old. I did nothing that I can remeber to damage the laptop and Last I used it, everything was fine. what should I do?  How to fix this? can virus do this or is it display problem?

OS windows 7 home premium sp1 64bit.

Solving piece of advice will be highly appreciated.

Error: All task bar icons (not them to the right) and all icons in the program list
have turned white, and pressing them leads to nowhere, instead a window asks what program
I want to open.

This makes navigation quite difficult, because I have to open each program in the
program file folders.

Error occurred this way:
Media player vlc ran flawlessly for quite a while, I think it was v.1.11.11.
Then suddenly vlc captured all icons that is all icons became vlc icons, and all
icons being pressed would open vlc.
At that time I was able to uninstall vlc, and all icons were back to normal.
Then I used vlc portable for some time, and icons were OK.
For some reason I tried to install a vlc nightly build, and again all icons became vlc icons.
And this time I couldn't find a way to uninstall the vlc properly. So I found vlc
program folders here and there and deleted them. That removed vlc, but all icons
now turned white, and didn't work.
I found a program and ran it, that should restore icons, but didn't work.

Solution to get my icons back and running?
Thanks.

Answer:Error: All programs and taskbar icons turned white, don't work.

You can try this tutorial. If the only problem is your icon cache.

Ok so just now my win7 machine turned back into XP. I have no idea why or how and it will not let me login. it asks me to authorize online, i try it but it can not reach the internet (which it is connected to).

Anyone have an idea on what is going on? I just used my machine last night and it was working fine. I shut down and boot up after I get back from work and it is showing XP.....

I have so much work to do and nothing can get done.
Please help!

cheers,

Answer:Win 7 turned back into XP!????

You cannot login yet it's asking you to activate? How many partitions are on your hard disk(s)? Sounds like either your BIOS or boot manager started an old XP installation by mistake.
