More repliesI recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have already attempted to update twice but each time I do it simply restarts and takes me back to the Phone Update category in settings telling me an update is ready to be installed. I'm currently factory resetting to see if it makes any difference.
That's probably your only option. My wife's L820 won't update to update 1. She keeps getting notified about the update but it generates an error. So I'm waiting for Cyan to be released for her phone and then I'll just hard reset at that point.
2 more repliesHi has anyone had problems with the latest wdp 8.1 update on lumia 520?

Thanks. Try it without the memory card inserted.. for some reason having the card present makes it hang on the spinning cogs. No idea why.

Cyan update was just rolling out for my country, Malaysia but till now my lumia 625 do not detect any latest update after i installed the black update usinh the DP. Sorry for my bad english, i am malaysian haha. Anyone can help?
From what I understand, they (MS) ran into an issue where people upgrading from DP to Lumia Cyan that are using bitlocker are having issues. MS has temporarily paused the release of the Cyan update until they have a fix for the issue. So, if you are in an area where the cyan update for your phone has been released, it may no longer be available until a fix is made. The article mentions rolling your phone back to WP8 before updating to Cyan, BUT I would recommend just waiting until a fix is available so you don?t loose data by reverting to back to an earlier OS.Microsoft: Windows Phone 8.1 Preview for Developer users should return to normal software before Lumia Cyan | Windows Phone Central

the package downloaded completely and the preparing to install was also 100% ...then the phone restarted... and then two wheels spinning screen came with a progress bar...which stops after a while...what to do now???? please help
WAIT for it to FINISH
Since this was just posted, the update takes time. It's backing up your phone, installing, restoring your phone, etc. - could take a half hour. Patience
The progress bar will eventually jump ahead, then reboot, then start the restore ...
According to WPC, an update was released for users who have the developer preview. I am one of those users but have not received the latest update. Anyone else having a problem getting it??

3 more repliesHi, everyone.
I am not able to access Display settings on Nokia 1520, running WP 8.1. developer preview.
1. Navigate to Settings
2. Navigate to Display
Results:
Nothing happens. I am redirected back to Settings menu
I tried turning a phone off and on as well as soft reset.
Any suggestions?
Same prob after installing new black update on Lumia 625. Just do the factory setting. Dont forget to backup your data.
4 more repliesI want to get out of the Preview for developers version and wanted to get the official update on my phone. Whenever I try to check for updates, it says I'm already up to date.
It says on the Nokia website that it is available in the Philippines for Lumia 920.
The firmware should be 3051.50009.1424.0010.
My info:
Carrier: Country Variant (Philippines)
Firmware revision number: 3051.40000.1349.0001
OS version: 8.10.14157.200
Software: Windows Phone 8.1 Update
Phone: Lumia 920
You'll need to downgrade to Windows Phone 8 using the Nokia Software Recovery Tool. Then you'll see that Cyan is available, and you'll be able to update.
Microsoft hasn't yet made Cyan available to people using the Preview for Developers.

Hi,
I currently have Windows Developer Preview 64 bit with developer tools installed on a Dell Inspiron 17R N7110.
When a try to connect to any network it will take about 45 seconds and then say that it has failed but will show limited connectivity to the network.
I have the Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 wireless adapter.
Is there anything that I can do?
Thank you all in advance.
I have posted a duplicate in General Discussion.
Do you have the latest drivers installed? Have you tryed to disable/enable the adapter?

I have tried single songs and other artist and nothing goes through. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it? I've done a regular restart but will a soft reset help? Thanks in advance
It seems there have been intermittent outages with Xbox music lately. I don't know if there are issues or if they are trying to update things in the background, but I'd try the wait-and-see approach to see if it works properly in a little while.

Hi all,
I am very happy with my new Lumia 830, but i have found that a couple things are not working.
the one that bothers me the most is that i cannot get the speech to work. Normally when u hold the "search" key it will bring up a voice commands function (not cortana) seeing that i reside in Belgium Cortana is not yet available to me, so i used the regular voice commands on my old Lumia 820 + Dev.Prev.
This has stopped working after updating to the Preview :( Only the short press that lets u type work's not the long press for voice commands
Any suggestions?
Thx
Just wondering.. Why not simply set the phone to US (Region+Language) and use Cortana?

Use Nokia Software Updater / Nokia Software Recovery Tool (installed to a PC / laptop - connected to phone via charging cable) to flash the appropriate software for your device.
Some people have had issues with either of these programs, there are threads all over these forums with possible remedies. I had NO issues falling back (from Dev Preview 8.1 to Official 8.0) to take Lumia CYAN upgrade ... so, I can't speak to these issues. Other than :make sure you use the cable supplied with the phone, just because the cable charges the phone does NOT mean it'll carry DATAYou may have to try different USB ports on your laptop / PC - there seems to be an issue with USB 3.0 driversInstall the latest version of the selected tool (NSU or NSRT) (uninstall any existing programs).one of those works better with a dead phone, not sure which, you'll have to experimentPATIENCE helps - this process takes some time, with scary pauses in the process ...SEARCH these forums (or XDA Devs) if you encounter issues - there are multiple threads addressing thisWhen / IF you finally get the phone flashed - do NOT sign in, HARD RESET your phone, again ... then sign in to access any backup available. (or NOT, but this'll work better).
GOOD LUCK - hope you have a backup, cause your phone will be wiped
Dear forum readers,
I have a problem when trying to install:
Windows 8 Developer Preview with developer tools English, 64-bit (x64)
When using the DVD tool from Microsoft as explained in one of the tutorials in this forum,
I receive the following error message:
The disc does not have sufficient free space.
I use a 4.7GB DVD disc, and the size of the Windows 8 Developer Preview with tools English, 64-bit (x64) iso file
size is: 4.83 GB.
Of-course this is the source of my problem, and i need a way to fix it.
What i am doing currently, is downloading the Windows 8 Developer Preview without tools.
I have read some solutions, but they did not offer what i am looking for.
I need a way to install the complete version with developer tools, including:
64-bit Windows 8 Developer Preview
Windows SDK for Metro style apps
Microsoft Visual Studio 11 Express for Windows 8 Developer Preview
Microsoft Expression Blend 5 Developer Preview
28 Metro style apps including the BUILD Conference app
I only have a normal DVD drive, no USB stick of the required size, but I have a second hard-disk with sufficient space.
AND I have an external USB hard-disk with sufficient space.
Tried to install from local hard-disk in Windows 7 by using the setup.exe in the sources directory, gives me the following error:

Is it possible to 'install" DP Apps in CP?
Where are the 'shortcuts?' for Metro Apps located?
Here's path one..
d:\Program Files\Applications\microsoft.build_1.0.1.4_neutral_neutral_8wekyb3d8bbwe\
Here's path two..
d:\Users\Windunce\AppData\microsoft.build_8wekyb3d8bbwe\
Yes one can copy those folders to the appropriate place in CP, but getting them 'registered?'
and finding out what takes the place of a .lnk is beyond me at the moment.
Any help appreciated.
ps...
For now I've made two users, Windunce and Metro.
I've 'disabled?' the MetroUI for user Windunce and left MetroUI as installed for the user Metro.
I simply unpinned all the apps from the Start Screen except 'Desktop' and enabled Quick Launch on a
double-height TaskBar to replicate? my Win 7 system
User Windunce will logon for day to day productivity and User Metro will logon to enter the brave new world.
The best of both worlds? Well it could be, but not just yet.
Schizophrenically Yours
Windunce
Found the .lnk to the App.
The folder names changed from DP to CP.
No more Immersive Apps Shortcuts, nor Applications folder.
So I created those folders in CP and copied everything over from DP into them.
The good news? The shortcut showed up in the Start Screen!
The bad news, it doesn't run :(
I suppose I could compare registry entries and import some keys, but before I try that,
does anyone think there is an easier way?
Thanks
Windunce
When I updated to the release preview, Metro stopped working on my computer. The tiles said Microsoft.ZuneMusic/AppexNews and when I clicked them they did not open. If I tried to open the store, it would open the splash screen and then crash. So then I tried to re-install windows 8 but it would not install and said it was experiencing problems with my hardware (which makes no sense since the Developer Preview worked perfectly fine). Now whenever I start up my computer I have to choose between Windows 8 on disk 2, another option for Windows 8 on disk two, or Windows Setup. And metro still does not work. What is happening? Can someone please help me? Thank you!
Hello Ishpan, and welcome to Eight Forums.
What happens when you select "Windows Setup" with your installation disc still there?
You might see if the issue and solution in the link below may the same as what you are having.
What to do if Windows 8 Release Preview won't install
If not, then double check to make sure that you do a clean install of Windows 8 instead.
Hope this helps,

Hi,can Win8 C.P. be installed without removing Win8 D.P.
I guess not, but since until now my Revodrive 3 X2 gave me problems with the Win8 D.P. install, i hate to do a fresh try with the Consumer Preview.
I would loose the Win8 is am using now.
When starting the setup, hard drive is not recognized.....
Any thoughts anyone?
Thanks

Yes, you can upgrade to CP from DP but I would suggest you to do a clean install.
If you want to upgrade from DP, use this link: Download Windows 8 Consumer Preview

2 more repliesHi,I have a 4 month old Lenovo E31-80 and I have trouble to connect to the Internet via a Wireless Network.I only have problems with private wireless networks (at my place and my sisters), public networks on a bus or at university worked perfectly fine. Also if I plug in my LAN cable, the wireless works, if its unplugged it shows a connection to the network but the internet access is not working. What I've tried so far:Restarting the computer (serveral times)Disconnect and reconnect to the network (several times)I disabled the option "switch device off for energie saving reasons"I reinstalled the wireless adapter (several times) Nothing works.I'd be really happy if anyone has any ideas how to fix this. Thanks
More repliesDear Friends, Hope all is well.
I can access the Internet via ethernet cable, but I cannot via WiFi to my Network.
The wifi adapter is the Atheros AR5007 802-11b/g WiFi Adapter. Which may be outdated?
I'm not certain that's the entire issue?
I can access Mozilla using the ethernet cable, but if I try to use IE it has a connection issue. Stating:"Windows cannot find host name "internet explorer" using DNS." The domain server may be down. Windows found a problem that cannot be repaired automatically."
One suggestion was to use a USB adapter assuming the Atheros AR5007 802-11b/g WiFi Adapter is out of date or can't be updated? What do I know?!?
Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated...
Sincerely, Raphael

I just received back my Lumia 820 after an USB connector replacement (it was jammed and couldn't charge the phone).
Ever since then I have no internet on the phone. It shows as if it would connect to the Wireless network, but I have no Internet connection on the phone itself.
I get an IP like 169.254.x.x and a mask with 255.255.0.0
...which would indicate an APIPA/ DHCP issue according to my limited IT knowledge.
Problem is that there are 3 other devices (a laptop, a PC and my girlfriend's Lumia 640) connected to the same Wireless Router and they all work just fine, while my L820 has no internet connection.
I've tried with my other network at my old flat, got the same issue (IP and mask-wise).
The network is not limited by MAC Addresses as those devices connected just automatically and they all work fine. And the number of devices connected are also not limited as I've tried disconnecting a device while connecting with my phone - same result.
Is it possible then that it is a hardware issue and the guys fixing my phone messed something up with the WiFi? What can I do to solve this?
Thanks in advance for your input!
It just says: Can't Connect to NetworkI'm at a friends house so I've never connected to it beforeI've already checked the network settings and I have never connected to it before...
Can you see the network and/or other networks?Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

More repliesHello, I was wondering if I upgraded my WP8 device (HTC 8X), via the Preview for Developers to 8.1 (not 8.1.1), would I be getting the final version of 8.1? I don't care about carrier or OEM specific firmware or customization. I just want to know if it is the final, RTM build, or an earlier preview build.
Thanks!
Hey man.
If you download Windows Phone 8.1 via Preview you will get the latest version, always.
Microsoft generally keeps the preview ahead of the general user, so we get an update and after a while that update is released to the final user.
So your answer is yes.
BUT, keep in mind... Sometimes our updates are buggy because they are, in general, betas.
When I tap on get build option in preview for developer .. There is error saying " connection error check your date and time " what to do
Check date time if its wrong...check timezone.. Try enabling/disabling auto update time/date... If it doesn't resolve your problem then final option is hard reset... I had problem like u have n I tried everything but finally I had to reset.

IE 9 developer preview: 700,000 downloads so far; next update 'on track.'
Since Microsoft made available to testers the Internet Explorer (IE) 9 developer preview in mid-March, there have been about 700,000 downloads of it, according to a source close to the situation, who asked not to be identified.
IE General Manager Dean Hachamovitch, with whom I had a brief phone conversation on April 7, would not comment on the exact number of IE 9 downloads to date. But he did confirm there has been positive reception for Microsoft?s next release of IE ? a release which will feature HTML 5 support, a new, speedier JavaScript engine and a host of other features.

1 more repliesMozilla Developer Preview Now Available
A posting on the Mozilla Developer blog states that a developer preview of the Gecko 1.9.3 platform is now available for download.
The main feature of this release is out-of-process plugins: on Windows and Linux, plugins such as Flash and Silverlight run in a separate process from the browser. If a plugin crashes it will not crash the browser, and unresponsive plugins are automatically restarted. (Note that we are working on this for Macs as well, but is not part of this preview release.) We are making this preview release available so that it can get wider testing and generate feedback.
I have the HTC 8XT from sprint and I've been patiently waiting for the 8.1 update (until I heard that it might be released in November) so I've been itching to try the developer preview, but I'm a little afraid of what it might do to my phone. I know November isn't far away, but I'd really like to get a taste of all the new features, and I'm pretty excited for Cortana. So I wanted to know if anyone has the preview running on their 8XT, and if so, are you having any problems with your phone after the update? Should I wait for the actual update or try out the preview?

4 more repliesHi, I need to know if someone with Athlon XP or Sempron CPU has also problems with Windows Developer Preview. Every time I run Services or EventViewer...etc the application crashes with the culprit being d3d10warp.dll.
I tested it in 3 PCs with different video cards and now I suspect is the CPU. (which lacks SSE2 instructions)
I dont think it's the CPU, at least there's no reference to SSE2 instructions in the official requirements.

the Operating System is working fine. But, when I installed Skype the laptop microphone has stopped working. When I check the device manager in the control panel, it shows nothing unidentifiable by the system, only MTP USB Device in yellow triangle. I don't know how to fix my Laptop microphone.
6 more repliesI have taken a month ago Lumia cyan on my Lumia phone. I heard a rumor about update 2 coming 8th October and I wondered if it is wise to enroll to the developer preview program to get update 1 with folders which I like a lot? Had anyone heard when update 1 is coming to normal users? What are the rules for enrolling in the developer preview program and will I lose guaranty or something?

As for updates after WP8.1, we have absolutely no idea. Considering not everyone has WP8.1 yet, probably a little while still.
If you have issues with your phone you can always convert it back using the Nokia Software Recovery Tool prior to sending it it.FAQ - FAQ - How can I recover/reset/restore my phone software? - Nokia - UK

I want to remove the Developer Preview from my 8XT. I want to reset my phone so that I can install the latest 8.1 update and firmware from Sprint. My wife's non-DP 8XT received the new 8.1 update and I noticed that the HTC firmware was also updated. Im sick and tired of the WiFi issues and the constant rebooting. What is the difference between the Sprint 8.1 update and the Developer Preview 8.1.1 update? What will I miss if I remove the DP version?
Try turning Preview for Developers off and then checking for the update.
That may get you the latest Sprint 8xt Firmware.
Don't return to P4D.
The difference is optimized Firmware made to run on your device. From the sound of it you will miss Live Folders, Cell Data Toggle, etc. Compare with your wife's "official" phone. I searched around and did not find a ready packaged answer on how to flash official firmware to your device. Try searching the 8XT forum here and at XDA for more specific answers and how to instructions if the workaround I posted does not get you back to official.

Dont know if it's just me or what but recently most of my apps have been really sluggish lately, what i mean by that is the when i open an app like xbox music or video it gives me the resuming thing for about 5 to 10 seconds and then it just goes out of the app. I then have to repeat this for probably 5 times before the app actually begins.
Even other downloaded apps like modernmusic, accuweather and even the stock cellular does this.
Just want to know if others also experience this and does this problems also occur to the cyan phones?
Welcome to world of DP. :) there is a thread about this stuff and here is the link http://forums.windowscentral.com/win...try-these.html

Hi guys! I'm experimenting with Windows 8 Developer Preview and I'm having a tough time installing it. It finishes copying the files, then reboots, then just hangs on "Getting devices ready 86%." It wouldn't go past that.
Tried numerous times, different HD partitions, different drives on different SATA ports, same result. Sometimes it hangs at 87%, 82%, etc...
This is on an Asus P8Z68 Deluxe/Gen3 mobo with a 2600K.
Just wonder if anyone is using it and has any idea why it's doing that.
Microsoft every day make new update like denim and I want to know is that update will roll for non developer Lumia phones, and Windows phone 10 is he will roll out Windows phone 8.1 users.
The Preview for Developers does get you fast tracked for updates, but they are Beta and may have bugs that need to be worked out. Also they lack firmware for your individual hardware and are not as efficient. Many reported problems include battery drain, malfunctions with basic apps like camera and other difficulties like WiFi not connecting...
Many love the P4D and I enjoyed it when I was on the program. Then I got a new phone I was taking on a long vacation overseas and I ran the phone without P4D so I was assured of stability while away from home...
If you are a risk taker, get the P4D going. IMHO, the benefits outweigh the risks. If you want tried and true, don't do it.
The updates that Preview users are getting WILL come to your device. All Lumias are getting Windows 10. P4D is not required to get updates. No one on P4D is getting firmware such as Cyan or Denim through the program. Cyan, Denim and other Lumia firmware is a separate update.
Is the DP still available for downloading...thinking about getting new Win Phone as contract expires....
You can always sign up for Preview for Developers to get early software updates.
2 more repliesMicrosoft rolled out an update recently that changed the interface of the Internet Explorer Developer Tools significantly.
Most modern browsers ship with a set of developer tools included. These tools can be used for a variety of purposes, from checking what gets loaded when you connect to a website to a website's source code and JavaScript that gets executed.
The keyboard shortcut F12 toggles the Developer Tools interface usually in most browsers. Up until recently, Microsoft used a different layout than Mozilla and Google.
Instead of displaying a horizontal toolbar listing the tools provided, it displayed them vertically on the left side of the screen. While that saved horizontal space, it had the effect that all tools were displayed as icons which made it difficult for some to distinguish between them.
The company published an updated for its Internet Explorer 11 browser last Tuesday on Patch Day which changed the Developer Tools interface.
When you open the Developer Tools in Internet Explorer after the update you will notice that the vertical toolbar is gone replaced by a horizontal toolbar. The icons are gone too for the most part replaced by the name's of the tools which improves identification significantly.
Another effect of the change is that you don't have to scroll vertically anymore to access one of the tools that is not displayed on the toolbar due to lack of visible space. The only option to avoid this back then was to increase the vertic... Read more

13 more repliesHey guys I know its pretty [H]ard but I'm using Windows 8 Developer Preview 64-bit as my main operating system. I built a new Desktop and decided on saving a few bucks from buying another Win 7 OS license so I made a bootable Win 8 DVD. Since I don't really care to much about the metro UI, I use Metro UI Tweaker and now it looks and feels just like Win 7. The only real issue I had so far is that my chipset driver would not install properly and if I force install it my PC would crash. Other than that I've been gaming, blu-ray watching, video editing, web surfing and music listening with no issues . Anyone else in the same boat or am I just the minority .
For my CR-48, yes. For everything else? No. So far, it's been a dev platform and a new toy I have to get used to. Nothing more, so far.
I have an HTC 8X, signed up for developer and have an account and also downloaded preview for developer on my phone. When I go to check for updates it say my phone is up to date. I have done some searches here but there is a ton of info on this site. I am hopeful someone that knows the site better will be able to point me to the thread that discusses this or has some suggestions. Thanks
The Preview for Developers is having some issues right now. It is possible that you might not get the updates until this is resolved. However, I wanted to confirm that you launched the Preview for Developers app, signed in with your Microsoft ID and Enabled Preview for Developers. If you didn't do this, you well never get the updates.

4 more repliesDear forum readers,
I tried to install Windows 8 Developer Preview.
After some initial problems, i succeeded in installing Windows 8 (dual boot ) on my laptop.
However, for some reason my printer was installed, but not working.
Printer: Canon LBP6000, it appeared in the control panel, but no properties of the printer.
Tried to download 64-bit drivers from Canon for Windows 7.
Installed the driver, rebooted and try to print.
Error message: something like connection problems. Booted in Windows 7, no problems with printing.
Rebooted in Windows 8,
Got an error message from Explorer.exe and the laptop shuts down.
Windows 8 started
try to fix the printer problems, still not managed to get the printer working.
Then i tried to log of and shut down, Windows 8 did not want to log of, so i tried <CTRL><ALT><DEL>
and got finally to the option to shut down.
Got an error message from Explorer.exe and the laptop shuts down.
Since Windows 8 is not stable on my system, especially not able to shut down, or log of normally,
I want to get rid of Windows 8 Developer Release, but i do not like to loose Windows 7.
It is a dual-boot system.
Hope someone can explain to me how to safely remove Windows 8 Developer Preview. And keep Windows 7, without the Windows 8 Developer Preview boot loader.
Best regards,
zx81

Ok, so I downloaded the setup and it starts to run but then it has an error saying it couldn't install the prerequisites and this is the error in the log

Can anyone help? I don't want to download the other version of Windows 8 with the tools. I don't have a big enough media to install it.
Do you know if there is a standalone installer? (specially for non-msdn subscriber?) Or is there way to extract just the visual studio 11 installer from the larger .iso?
Thanks,
SD
Hi,
I am just wondering if anyone has tried Windows 8 Developer Preview which is available to download by Microsoft. They recently announced that people who like to get their hands of Win 8 can download this edition.
Has anyone tried it yet? If yes, how was it?

Win8... Questions...
When are we supposed to get the developer preview of wp 10?
I'm running the Windows Developer Preview 64 bit w/o developer's tools on my computer. I installed it through an iso mounted to a USB flash drive. Now, months later, it says I need to insert the disk to repair Windows. (It froze and when I restarted it said this). I can only download the consumer preview now, rendering me unable to fix it. I want to update to the Consumer Preview on my computer for the purpose of the iso being "corrupt" (missing different files each time) no matter how many times I try to redownload and remount it. If anyone knows of somewhere I can download it or has it saved somewhere and is willing to upload it somewhere, I would greatly appreciate it.
Hi,
Easiest choices of many:
1) Try booting to safe mode then open an elevated command prompt and run this command to fix it:
sfc /scannow
2) Just custom install the Consumer Preview.
3) If you still have the USB intact, use that to repair.
----------
There might be something wrong with your hard drive, because Windows files do not really become corrupted otherwise, causing freezes. (Maybe 3rd party software over-writting but still probably would not freeze.)
Once you have any operating system up and running, run this command from an elevated prompt:
chkdsk /r
Sorry if this has been addressed already, I looked and didn't find it; but, can I change the text sound on my Lumia 920 running WPDP? I know custom text sounds are allowed, as I have one currently - Law & Order chimes - but I can't see anywhere to change it. Under Settings ---> Ringtones & Sounds I only see options for Ringtone and Reminders.
Mason
Look under Settings>Notifications+Actions and go to the Messaging choice. That will be the place to change the text message tone for general text messages. For individual's texts--and I'm sure you know this--you have to set it through their contact.

I've recently installed Windows 8 on a borrowed Hard Drive that has recently been returned. The computer I am using is a laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate. After I removed the Hard Drive, my computer keeps attempting to return to the screen where you can choose which OS to boot, but won't even show Windows 7.
Attempted Solutions:
- inserting a Windows 7 Disc and Windows 8 disc and performing Startup repair.
- performing a windows upgrade
- eliminating each SATA slot from boot menu
- booting from an external hard drive on a second computer
- repairing from an external drive on a second computer (with Windows 7 Home Premium)

8 more repliesHi, I have a Nokia L920 and I have enroled the Developer Preview Program to install the Windows 8.1 OS
But today on the "Preview for Developers" I've unchecked the option "Enable Preview for Developers" do disable the Developer Preview program...
I assume that now I wont get any Dev Preview Related Updates and so the 8.1 GDR1 I will only get when the final version is available My question is, I still will receive the final WP8.1 + Cyan without downgrade to W8 I'll just need to wait longer then if I downgrade right?
The official Cyan update for WP is taking too long to deploy... dunno if ever will be an Cyan update for DP versions, just have in mind to downgrade your L920, because MS recommends to go back to normal version of the OS in order to receive the firmware updates.

More repliesHello guys,
Is just me, or anyone else have this bug too? In Windows Developer Preview, with Aero enabled, the background of every window have a great grey square. In case of some apps wich use aero, like Firefox or the Windows Gadget Gallery, it's so ugly!
Do you guys have idea about what's happening?
My notebook is a Intel GMA 965 graphic card, maybe it can be a bug for this hardware, right?

1 more repliesi had updated windows10 technical preview in my lumia 525 phone.
windows10 got updated,but wi-fi now not working
I downloaded the 32bit version of the Developer Preview from here. I chose the 32bit version because I do not have the VTX AMD-v in my BIOS.
Then I setup a virtual partition in my vBox 4.1.2. Made the following settings
Enable IO APIC
Enable PAE/NX
Disable VT-x/AMD-V and Nested Paging
With all of that I tried to install but got bombed out (forgot to snip the messages but can try again to get them).
Does anybody have an idea where the problem could be? One suspicion I have is that I try to run the 32bit Win8 in a vBox on top of a 64bit Win7. But that is only a hunch.
Hi Wolfgang,
I don't think the 32bit on 64bit Windows can be the problem as that is my setup.
I have PAE/NX disabled and VT-x/AMD-V and Nested Paging enabled.
I recently opted out of developer preview by downgrading my lumia 620 and got cyan update through Nokia software recovery tool. This led to great smoothness in working of the phone and the phone feels more responsive. There were some lags while using the preview, but i really miss the native folder and cortana for india....should i again go for preview program now that cyan running or wait for the Lumia denim update ??
I would say, you should go for it. Cyan is already there and update 1 should be as smooth as 8.1 with Cyan.

1. Can I use a USB Flash Drive for the Install of the Developer Preview of Windows 8?
2. Will I lose Windows Vista Home Premium?
Thank you!
Hello FirelightXtreme, and welcome to Eight Forums.
Q1) Yes, you can. The tutorial below can help show you how to.
http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials...eview-iso.html
Q2) If you try to install Windows 8 from within Vista, then you would lose Vista. You could use the tutorial below for how to setup a dual boot with Windows 8 and Vista when Vista is installed first. It's the same steps, but just substitute Vista for Windows 7 in the tutorial.

Hi All,
Have upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8 Consumer Preview on my Laptop. All is good except i cant use Visual Studio 11 due to the fact i cannot acquire a "developer license"
In other websites people have directly attributed this to upgrading from Windows 7, unfortunately I cannot clean install this laptop so need to find how to get the License as is
Does anybody know the resolution to this issue?
What i get is that you try to get the developer license and it fails asking you to retry (never works)
Can't agree with developer license in Visual Studio 11 Beta | Microsoft Connect
Looks like you are not the only one. My Technet account let me download Win8 CP with a subscribers serial number and technet is definitely a developers site but I am assuming these guys have a Technet account.
A friend of mine install the preview, but I'm unsure of how to uninstall. I want to download the official 8.1.1 update and get the latest firmware.
Did you mean that your friend installed the Preview for Developers App? Installing that app does not automatically enable your phone to receive preview updates... you need to "Enable" it first in the app itself.
You should find the "Preview for Developers" App in the App List. In it, just uncheck "Enable Preview for Developers" (if it is checked). In most cases, you won't need to restart your phone after that. You don't need to uninstall the app afterwards, as long as this is "unchecked" your phone will not receive preview updates.

No. It does not meet the system requirements. Below is the requirements for each. I have highlighted the aspect that your Tablet doesnt meet. While you can try to force the install of Windows with only 512MB of RAM, I would not suggest it as it would not do you any good. It will make the system slow.
System Requirements
Windows 8 Release Preview works great on the same hardware that powers Windows 7:
Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster
RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)
Hard disk space: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver
Windows 7 system requirements
If you want to run Windows 7 on your PC, here's what it takes:
1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
Windows Vista system requirements
If you want to run Windows Vista on your PC, here's what it takes:
1 gigahertz (GHz) 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
1 gigabyte (GB) of system memory (512 megabytes (MB) for Home Basic)
40 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space (20 GB for Home Basic)
Support for DirectX 9 graphics with WDDM and 128 MB of graphics memory (32 MB for Home Basic)
DVD-ROM drive

51 more repliesI am kind of an impatient dude. But what also triggers my impatience is when a new update is released for the DP. So I am considering to go back to DP... for the third time.
But before I do that, I remembered the great community here who gave so many responses to my last post (seriously, thank you!) and seeking advice from experts here, I have a question: Should I switch to Developer's Preview from Lumia Cyan?
Here are my supporting questions:
1. Do I lose any stability by doing so?
2. Is the DP essentially a Nexus equivalent of Windows Phone?
3. Any other risks I should know of?
Thank you, in advance, for taking your time to read this question!
1. Depends. If your phone is pretty stable to begin with it should be fine. If not then hard reset
2. No DP is not a Nexus equivalent. There is no firmware with DP which is where some of the instability can come from
3. Other than the possibility of having to hard reset which means you may lose data

So every time I start this machine it goes to an all black screen with white letters that says developer preview or something like that. And it just sits there. If I then press the restart button it loads fine bringing me to the login screen. So every time i start the computer I must go through this sequence. Anyone have any idea what is causing it or how to fix it? If I shut it down it happens again.
