More colour options to change background colour

Question: More colour options to change background colour

Hello friends,
I was just thinking that wouldn't it be great if we get more color options to change the background color on our Windows Phone devices than just black or white as we get on Windows 8.1 devices to customize background color along with tile colour?

Preferred Solution: More colour options to change background colour

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: More colour options to change background colour

I personally like the black and white, but I saw a mockup of a dim tropical photo in place of the black and it looked quite beautiful.

Hi, I'm using the Aerolite theme with Aeroglass, and want a consistent colour for the borders. So I set accent colour from background 'off' and choose the colour. Fine so far.

Now that's ok if I log off and on.

But if I sleep or hibernate (not personally ) and then resume, the colour and setting are lost.

I noticed that on resuming, the border colour is present until the 'Please wait' screen appears, after which these settings are lost.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi, When I open IE the background it has changed to black, I cannot get it back to the blue default one at all. I cannot find the button to do it on the browser screen. When I click on Tools>Internet Options>colors, I click open the background option then pick a blue color, at the bottom the Apply button is grayed out, so when I click on the OK button the color will not change on the browser. Can anyone please help out. Thanks Mac

I have managed to change the background of Desktop to a colour but would like the screen background to be a colour all the time. Colouraid say this is possible on Windows XP. (My eyes are uncomfortable with a white background)If someone would advise how this can be done I would be very grateful. Thanks in advance.

Answer:change background colour windows XP

I'm sorry but I cannot quite work out what you mean. The screen background colour is the desktop colour. But are you meaning the colour in the windows that open?

After downloading and installing NVIDIA driver 280.26, my desktop background changed to a solid black. Now I cannot change it to anything other than a solid colour. If I try, it'll just change back.

I did a System Restore to before the driver was installed leading me to think that it wasn't actually the new driver. I'm currently running the sfc/scannow command to see if it fixes anything but in the meantime, has anyone got any ideas?

Answer:Cannot change background from solid colour

You may have to run your WEI again after updating your graphics driver. It sounds lame but I've seen it fix graphics related problems like Aero not working etc, after updating drivers.

I am trying to change the colour scheme (amongst other things) in a site I've downloaded into Dreamweaver CS3. I don't know what software was used to design the site originally (I do own the site by the way).I have managed to change the background colour in the main body but the header is (of course) an image (layer). I have opened it in Photoshop CS2 but it's locked and I don't know how to get into it to convert the background colour. I have the same problem with the page background as well, that layer is locked too. They are both .gif files, do I need (am I able) to convert them to make them editable?Would appreciate some help please, my knowledge of both programs is limited.

Answer:Change background colour in a layer

If they are gifs then they wont have layers, the original layered image from which the gif was made, has been 'flattened' and saved as a gif. What you'll have to do is isolate the bits you want to change the colour on, using the selection tool or magic wand tool, then change the colour within the selection. You will probably have to increase the colour depth to 16 million colours (24-bit), in order to do that. Then resave as a gif (or whatever).

Background format doesn't show up here if View <> Web Layout.

Maybe it's not switching automatically ; check out the lil buttons to the left of the horizontal scrollbar.

I've managed to figure out how to do it - despite staying clear of Metro through using a third party normal start menu.
When I press the correct item in metro to customise the colour, absolutely nothing happens.
Any idea what could be wrong?

I know I can hack this colour straight in the registry but I prefer not to.
I want to trigger the GUI based colour selector

Any idea what could be wrong? (Win8 Pro with all the latest patches).

Answer:Can't change the Metro (win 8 start) background colour

You have to use one of the third party utilities to do it. Brink has the info here. Start Screen - Change Background Color and Image Save it as a favorite. Windows 10 it is a little harder to do the Lock screen, since Microsoft made it that you have to go about a whole different way with that version.

While this is not catastrophic I just can,t get used to it and would like to go back to the normal black writing on white.
Please can anyone offer advice on how I can achieve this.

Answer:[SOLVED] Change of SCreen Background Colour

Hi jamtart98,

I would suspect that the software you installed did something to the Graphic Drivers. Do you mind booting into Safemode(Press F8 during startup > Safemode with networking). If the problem is gone in safemoode, Reboot the machine into normal mode and:

1. Uninstall your current graphical drivers.
2. Download the latest ones from nVidia's website.

Any ideas on how to tweak the colour of the menu background of W7 applications?

To be specific - as I'm not sure of the correct name - I'm talking about the pale blue colour which appears behind "File Edit View History " on Firefox (and other programs), below the title header. It is used as the unselected tab background too.

I don't like it!

I want this colour to appear uniformly grey, as in XP, and without the light slim horizontal embellishment cutting through the words.

Thanks!

Why don't you just download a skin for it, there are skins called XP on Vista and it should be exactly what you are looking for.

One thing to check. Go to the Ease of Access Centre, either at:

or:
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Ease of Access Centre\Make the computer easier to see
and make sure 'show windows background' hasn't been turned off.

Have you ever wished to change the black and white look of Command prompt (cmd)?
Ya its possible, we can change the black and white Colour to our own choice. There are 2 alternative method of changing the Command Prompt Colour. 1.) By Registry Editor 2.) By TuneUp Utilities Method 1.) By Registry Editor: a.) Open the Registery Editor (Start > Run > Regedit) and navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Command Processor. b.) Locate to DWORD value “DefaultColour“.
In the right pane, modify the “DefaultColour” value, putting in a hexadecimal number say “E4″. The first digit of this value determines the background colour, and the second digit determines the foreground colour of the text. Preview:
In this case, ‘E’ corresponds to Light yellow colour, and ‘4′ corresponds to Red The result in command prompt window with red text on yellow background. Similarly you can set your own choice according to this table: Method 2.) By TuneUp Utilities: 1.) Open TuneUp Utilities > Customize Windows > TuneUp System Control > Navigate to, Administration > System > Command Prompt > Advance. 2.) Choose any colour of your choice & Press Apply. 3.) Restart your PC to see Effects.
That’s It. Source: Tweaking Windows

Hi there gurus.
My pc doesn?t show certain colour objects in Publisher 2007 and some on-line sites. Overall, the screen colour is very good. I know the fault is localised, because when I switch to Print Preview in Publisher it looks fine and I can see all the object colours. (I only lose the colour with objects, not text)
Also, when I send a copy of a Publisher page to my partner who is on the same PC, it looks fine on her screen.
I?ve tried going to Install/uninstall programs and run the Repair, but to no avail. The guys in my computer shop are clueless without seeing it. Anyone who can help solve this for me is a gem.
Cheers!

What's cheaper: colour laser with genuine ink or colour inkjet with compatible inks?

I'm happy to invest in buying a colour laser: but I can't find any refills for lasers
At least they don't seem to be widely available

So, my choice is: colour laser + genuine inks or colour inkjet + compatible inks

From what I know, side by side: laser's are cheaper
But, how about when compared to genuine laser ink to compatible colour inkjet inks?

I should stress that for me needs, I am not overly concerned if using compatibles doesn't give me perfect results - just close as possible is fine for me

What's more important probably is speed of print at highest quality

ANY feedback would be great

Thanks

Answer:What's cheaper: colour laser with genuine ink or colour inkjet with ink compatibles?

Finding Compatible Remanufactured Color Toner cartridges can be dicey. While they may be available, the problem may end up being the company tht does the remanufaturing. It is also dependant upon the model printer you get. I have noticed that the savings on my Black Canon X-25 toner cartridge is only about $12 lower than the cost of a Factory original cartridge. There are sites that I would save up to $30 per cartridge, but part of this is eaten up by the shipping charges. For my toner cartridge, I am about 1/2 mile from the store that does nothing but ink and toner refill services, and their garauntee thier cartridges 100%. In 3 years I have only had to return one cartridge and it was an HP #17 Color cartridge.

Now per page printing cost on a laser is much cheaper than on an inkjet. Though the printer cost itself is usually much higher for a Laser. Personally I use the laser much more than than my Inkjet, but I do use the inkjet for all color printing. But then 95% of my printing is monochrome text.

Hi Allhope someone more knowledgable can advise - I recently purchased a Lexmark x500n multifunction colour laser printer - I had a big black print job to do excel and word - 2000 pages - i was shocked to see that - ok the black starter cartridge of 2500 pages was nearly empty- fair enough - but all three colour cartridges (1500 page size) were nearly all empty too - I hadn't done any colour printing but when i contacted the manuf they advised that the printer uses colour also to print black!! - it's getting returned to them - but do do all colour lasers do this - obviously this quadruples the costs of printing and has put my costing out of the window!! - any advice would be great - it's a network colour printer, with copier and scanner that I need - a fax would be great but not essential.thanks in advanceTrifly

Answer:COLOUR LASER - PRINTING BLACK USING COLOUR!!

That would pee me off no end. How in God's name can it use colour to create black when there's a black cartridge in there? A cheapo mono laser seems to be your ideal tool. I know nothing about colour laser printers, but is there an option anywhere in the settings to print using only the black cartridge? Does the printer still work if you take out the colour cartridge while printing only black text documents?

Hello.

I seriously need help with my PC. I've reinstalled Windows XP and Service Pack 2, and I can't chnge the Screen resolution or the colour quality. It sucks. The resolution stays at 800x600, the lowest possible, and the colour quality stays at 8 bit. I think I have a ATI 128 MB DDR Radeon 9800 Pro. I dunno whether thats a driver or what. And I also don't know my graphics card, or whether that will help at all.

I would swear at this point but I'm too young.

Oh but I'll use this instead

Has anyone got any help for me that I can understand. I'm 14 but I still can understand most computer talk.

Anyway thanks very much for reading all this crap and please try not to point out all my spelling mistakes.

Heya, welcome to the forums

Okay, it has to do with your drivers. Go to ATI's website and find your driver.

Here's the link

Please download and install both the Control Center as well as the Display driver. Then restart your computer and try to change the resolution.

How do I make the background colour dark at the top and gradually go lighter towards the bottom of the webpage using Dreamweaver MX? A good example of the effect that I mean is the click here page

Answer:Background colour effect

including raw code and images. The Macromedia site you linked to is a lovely example of how a good backgound image can be repeated over the whole page for a smooth, transitional effect. There are code blocks you can insert into a page which mimick this look but by comparison the results you get using code are far less pleasing than by using the image.Basically the background is a 1 pixel wide image, darker at the top and lighter at the bottom, saved as a .jpgThis image is repeated over the page by using a small line of code in a Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) document that reads as follows:body {background: #c6cfd0 url(/images/master/background.jpg) repeat-x}Basically, this tells the page to use an image for the backgound called background.jpg, which is in the master folder, which is inside the images folder, hence the filepath /images/master/background.jpgThe important bit here is the small bit of code at the end of the line that says:repeat-xThis tells the image to repeat over the page using the x axis. You could use a small style block in the top of your web page along these lines to get the same effect:<style type="text/css"><!--body {background: #c6cfd0 url(/images/background.jpg) repeat-x}--></style>Note that this assumes the image you want to use is called background.jpg and that it lives in a folder of your website called images. The above code goes after the <title></title> tags but before the </head> tag.A code only background gradient effect may be ache... I tried changing it back to the wallpaper, but even though the wallpaper seemed to change, i still could only see a black screen. The wallpaper is there, because when i close a game it appears for a second, then gets back to the black screen. It's like it is being covered by the background colour. Everything is still working fine, and i can use all the icons on my desktop, however a black desktop is very annoying ... i would really like some help!

I am asking on behalf of a friend, who has asked whether it is possible to give Windows vista desktop icons a background colour?

We know we can make them transparent, but is it possible to give them an actual solid colour as you could in XP?

hi, try posting a screen shot it will help slightly. you can try this right click on my computer, then properties, then select advance, under performance click settings, in the performance uncheck use drop down shadow.
click apply, ok restart pc and that might sort it. or you can uncheck other until it works.

I have a rather odd question. My HP laptop desktop colour is stuck on this purplish colour I changed it to a few months back, something it's saved somehow as it's still there long after I've installed Windows 7. I can change the desktop image and the colour, etc, but whenever I restart my laptop the desktop colour reverts to that same purple. Any help/suggestions is/are appreciated. ^^

Answer:Stuck Desktop Background Colour

I ought to mention also I've tried rebooting/restoring and at one person's suggestion deleted  folder named ActiveDesktop under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies.

Hi

I have been getting headaches and wanted to change the glaring white colour of the background I have gone through control panel, display, window colour, advance appearance settings, window and changed the colour. But this doesn't affect the folder background colour. How can I change that? And can I change the colours of all the folder backgrounds at once or do I have to do them individually?

Many thanks

Matthew

Answer:Changing the folder background colour

Welcome to the Seven Forums

If you are using the default aero theme I can change that for you, using Windows Style Builder and post it here in a zip folder.
If you are using a custom theme you will need to ask the theme maker. It's not cool to change someone else work.

This will be a custom theme and you will need to do 1 of these 2 ways of Enabling custom themes for it to work.

Have a look at this thread, rather involved. Or perhaps this program by Kishan. You would have to find a solid color image if just a color was desired.

Hello to All @ TSG,

I know you cannot create a background colour in Web-based emails but why is this, please? I'm still using the old OE and especially when Halloween comes around, I'm able to put in a black background, insert white images, and white text and it shows up beautifully. I have loads of lovely backgrounds but unless the other recipient is also using email clients, there is no point because they cannot see it.

Is there any way, or method, I can create a background colour in a Web-based email?

Many thanks

I am test-driving Dreamweaver MX for my local club but I am having a few difficulties. Hopefully someone can help. In Dreamweaver 3 when you open a page/file and select a background colour (say mad red for example) that is exactly what you see - mad red! However, in Dreamweaver MX this does not seem to be the case. When the program opens the default colour appears to be a shade of blue. If I want to change it, or change part of it, and go through the normal process Modify-Page Properties-background and select my mad red all I get is a slightly darker shade of blue!! But if I preview it in the browser it comes up mad red. As you can appreciate this can be annoying. Without switching back and forward from Dreamweaver to browser you have no idea what is going on. It even makes it difficult to read text at times. I am assuming that as Dreamweaver is a WYSIWYG program the colour should change within the program itself. How can I set the program so that when I set background colours and change fonts etc I can see them within Dreamweaver MX without having to constantly view it in browser mode. At first I thought it was the video card but then if I use my old dreamweaver 3 everything works fine and the same goes for all other programs. Many thanks for any help offered. Kevin

Answer:dreamweaver mx - background colour missing

I'd suggest that this is a localised problem with your system.First port of call should be your graphics card drivers and or an uninstall/reinstall of Dreamweaver.Your page changes should preview in the Dreamweaver interface, just like the oder versions of that program. The fact that they don't would point to either a graphics card issue or Dreamweaver's interaction with your graphics systemWould you mind posting again with details of your operating system and graphics card ?

It Burns My Eyes!

Seriously, is there any way to change the background colour of Microsoft Office 2013?

I know that you can make the background a slightly darker shade of grey in the "Office Themes" menu, but is there any way to change the colour (e.g. blue)

I am desperate, I will even install mods/3rd party themes to enable me to DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN THE PAGE AND THE BACKGROUND. What in the world was Microsoft thinking? - "lets just burn out the retinas of every student, home user, and business professional by forcing them to view a WHITE PAGE ON A WHITE BACKGROUND"

Thanks in advanced for your help, and I apologise for the rant, but I strongly believed that it was necessary.

Answer:Office 2013 background colour

To my knowledge, and I looked again at a number of sources, we only have the three theme options. Seems like a limited selection.

I happen to really like the minimalist feel of the white theme, but taste vary and MS is ignoring peoples desire to be able to modified/theme programs.

Actually, it's not the application background colour - but I'm struggling to know what it is. I've attached two screen snaps. 001 shows an image (the block of colours) as seen in Corel Photopaint. 002 shows how it looks in "Full-screen Preview" from that application. It's the second image I'm concerned with. I would like the space beyond the image when seen in "Full-screen Preview" to be #000000 (black) not #F0F0F0, as you see it. This may be specified by the application (Photopaint) but nothing seems to control it there. Is it a Windows thing? Can it be changed?

Hello Everyone,

I use MS Office 2010. Whenever I copy something in Word from the Net, the background of the text carries the background colour of the web-page from which it is copied. Please see the screenshot below.

I used to get rid of it easily in Office 2003 and I am sure it should be quite easy to do so in Office 2010. But I have tried everything and I can't. Could someone please show me how to do it so that the background colour becomes the default colour and merges with the colour at the borders.

On one of my pc's selected text appears on a dark background colour which is hardly visible on dark backgrounds or templates
So it's in that case almost impossible to see what you have selected.
Normally this colour should be lightblue.

Since this selected background colour seems to be a general setting of Windows 7, is there a way to change this into it's original state?

As you can see the selected area is darkgreen

Answer:Solved: Selected text background colour

Right-click your desktop > Personalize > Window Color > Advanced appearance settings >
On the Window Color and Appearance dialog, select "Selected Items" from the Items drop-down list.
Select a color from the Color drop-down.

Also forgot to mention, have tried system restore, reinstalling graphics driver, creating a new user profile and sfc /scannow. But to no avail, something has been deleted or corrupted I guess. Most other Metro apps work fine and 3D games play fine so I doubt it is graphics card related.

Most pages on my web site have a plain white background. Two of them have a feint background image over a white background.

All of the pages are displayed correctly in Chrome and Firefox.

One of the pages with a feint backgound image is displayed in IE8 with an overall medium grey background, with no trace of the image, but the other similar page is displayed correctly.

eBay's pages display with a white background in both Chrome and Firefox, but display grey in IE8

This happens on both my computers, one with XP Pro SP3, the other with XP Home SP3.

Does anyone know what the problem may be; what should I look for?

I will be using a digital camera (not sure what type, will be borrowing)

Is there a way to change the background colour of the windows 8 photos (slideshow) screensaver. I am using png files which have transparent areas.

The XBMC media centre one worked great but I don't have it open all the time.

Is there another screensaver that enables you to do this?

It would have to automatically use new images in a folder that are added. ie. not a fixed slideshow file.

Before W10 I could go into the area now called 'Personalize' and after rummaging around I could find an 'Advanced' button that took me to a screen where I could use a colour palette to change the default background colour of documents and it would apply to Outlook, Excel, Word and others. I prefer a light blue to white. (In this area you could also choose to change the default colours for all different parts of the Windows display).

My options migrated ok when I moved from W7 to W10 but I somehow messed something up yesterday and now I've got white and can't find this W7 (and previous) background colour display change facility. I experimented with themes and some seem to affect this universal background colour, but I can't find where to tweak that to what I want.

Does anyone know where this old 'Advanced' colour options has gone to?

Many thanks.
