Why hasn't Microsoft implemented Windows Store app sharing between accounts on a single PC?

Question: Why hasn't Microsoft implemented Windows Store app sharing between accounts on a single PC?

I find it perplexing that Microsoft still hasn't considered adding the ability to share Windows Store apps between all accounts on a shared PC like a family desktop. There are several feedback items in the Feedback Hub calling for sharing options ranging from sharing apps across accounts added on the PC to sharing with accounts added as your family on all your PCs.
Consider a simple scenario. I own Quantum Break on the Windows Store through my Xbox One Pre-order. Now I would like to install the game on my family desktop and be able to have it playable on other user accounts on my PC. Unfortunately, Microsoft doesn't make this a straight forward process like it is on platforms like Xbox One or Steam. The only way you can do it is by adding all other accounts to your family and then changing the Windows Store account on all those accounts to my Microsoft Account.
I don't have to state how archaic this whole process is. Given how much Microsoft is promoting Xbox Play Anywhere these days, they really should focus on making these basic scenarios simple first. As it stands, I cant convince anyone in my circle of family and friends to invest in the Xbox ecosystem if it cant deliver these features which steam has had for years.

Preferred Solution: Why hasn't Microsoft implemented Windows Store app sharing between accounts on a single PC?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Why hasn't Microsoft implemented Windows Store app sharing between accounts on a single PC?

I'm sincere: first time I herd that. Accounts were created for differentiate people on the same machine, avoiding damages or interferences.
On desktops, when you install most apps / progs , if you choose Custom install instead of Fast, it will ask sooner or later "Applies on your account or all accounts"

Please somebody tell Microsoft about this feature, even though it is no longer 'considered' as a very high priority, yet does happen from time to time on rare occasions:

Explorer.exe crashes and your File Explorer windows that were open, all vanish. (All your programs stay open which is good)

But when Explorer.exe crashes, it should remember which File Explorer windows were open and where they were located physically on the screen, and re-open them! This would be helpful when you need to manually restart Explorer.exe too! It's such a simple idea that still hasn't been implemented yet.

Also, as an extra added bonus:
An option to remember the currently open File Explorer windows for when you need to Shut Down or Restart your computer.
After your computer loads up, your windows load up from where you left off in their same exact position on the screen!

WOW that's an amazing idea, don't you agree?

(you see? the first two smiley face twins think it's great, yet the third one thinks it's AMAZING! But then the bro under those three is looking at Mr. AMAZING and is all like bring it down a notch bro, looking at him all like "Come on, you're too excited, it's a great idea... well... just kidding, it's actually a SPECTACULAR idea!")

LoL at the smilies.

Answer:Why Hasn't This Feature Been Implemented Yet?

It'll be something good to send feedback to Microsoft about.

I've just installed win 8.1 update on three PCs at work. Unfortunately because of network restrictions I had to bring them home to do them. I logged into my Microsoft Account on each one in order to access the update on the Windows Store. Everything went well until I fired the machine back up in work.

Now I have all my favourites (some of which I don't want to share) appearing on my works machines.

How can I stop this happening?

If possible I'd still like to sign in at work with my Microsoft Account to keep things secure but I often leave my PCs running and don't want top share my info with colleagues.

can I turn off this Internet favourites sharing?

Answer:Sharing my Favorites with my Microsoft Accounts killing me

Hello Skewett,

If you like, turning off syncing completely or for the items you don't want to sync on the work computer should stop them from being synced back after deleting them.

Just thought this was interesting.

Since XP sometimes the taskbar would get stuck open and not auto hide. The reason for this is the system is trying to display a notification window about something but it's not being displayed where it's visible. The solution is to go into task manager and close all instances of Windows Explorer ( not Internet Explorer) and then from the task manager, re-run Explorer.exe. The task bar will auto hide normally now.
Windows Explorer - Restart explorer.exe in Windows 8
I came across this researching the problem because I had t in Windows 8. I have found instances of this same problem and the same fix from Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 and now Windows 8.

You would have thought Microsoft would have learned by now.

Answer:Found a bug Microsoft hasn't fixed since Windows XP

I see a Mod edited this as soon as I posted it adding the "Windows Explorer - Restart explorer.exe in Windows 8" link. Apparently problems like the one I mentioned above are so common place, Microsoft had to add a quick restart feature for Windows Explorer instead of properly fixing the problem.

I find that even more interesting than my above post.

For several days now I have been trying to access the Sony Playstation Store from my PC's web browser in order to download Metal Gear Solid to my Sony Playstation Vita, which you are unable to do from the Vita it's self. The internet URL address i've been trying to use it straight from google and is: https://store.playstation.com/ . Since Sunday night, every single time I try to load that one website, and only that particular website, the page immediately fails to load and i'm given the Chrome error message:

"Bad Request
Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand."

I am a total idiot as far as networking and internet troubleshooting quite frankly because I don't understand how it works at all. Can someone give me some advice on what to try in order to load this webpage? I poked around on google and I seem to be the only one having this issue for some reason.

Greetings everyone:

I'm running Windows 10 Home RTM 10240. I originally upgraded from Windows 7 Home Premium on August 11, 2015 but because my Start Menu and Windows Store stopped working a few days ago, I had to do a in-place reinstall which fixed everything and all the apps including Windows Store and Start menu work on my only account on the system which is a Administrator account. However, when I create a new account, some of the apps don't work and usually, they can be fixed with downloading from Windows Store but unfortunately, Windows Store doesn't open in the newly created accounts, I have already tried the following:

I also found that apps reinstalled using in Administrative Powershell:
Get-AppxPackage -allusers | foreach {Add-AppxPackage -register "$($_.InstallLocation)\appxmanifest.xml" -DisableDevelopmentMode}
will work as a app but the live tiles will not work and grey out even though it will open the app while
reinstalling the apps individually in Administrator Powershell using the package names in C:\Program Files\WindowsApps will install the app completely and Live tiles will work, seems like the previous method is only partially installing each app using the Movies & TV App as a example:

Add-AppxPackage -register "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.ZuneVideo_3.6.12711.0_x64__8we kyb3d8bbwe\Appxmanifest.xml" -DisableDevelopmentModeFiles

It appears that many sites are referencing C:\Windows\WinStor... Read more

Answer:Windows Store doesn't work with other user accounts

After some playing around, it appears that I can go to each account and run a Powershell (non-admin) and then do:
Add-AppxPackage -register "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\<packagename>\Appxmanifest.xml" -DisableDevelopmentModeFiles

and it will install the app and it'll work.

Get-AppxPackage -allusers | foreach {Add-AppxPackage -register "$($_.InstallLocation)\appxmanife
st.xml" -DisableDevelopmentMode} doesn't work as it seems like the apps are not fully installed since some of the apps won't open and some work but the live tiles don't work, not sure is it because it's also installing C:\Windows\SystemApps as well or not as when using this command, it will always say about 45 activities are not shown.

In any case, is there anyway to create a new user account and have all the default apps installed as what seems to happen now is that the start menu programs will show the apps but it's not installed for the user as clicking will do nothing while some of the default apps are actually installed for the user, for example, Windows DVD Player, Calculator and Candy Crush Saga are all installed and working.

Is there anyway to prevent a child's account from making purchases from the Windows Store? Windows 9 will reportedly have new activation methods that will tie the OS more closely with a specific PC

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) will unveil Windows 9 this fall, claims notorious Russian leaker WZor, who has a pretty good track record. In a Russian language post on Ru-Board, the leaker said that the upcoming update to Windows 8 will be the last major overhaul of the existing OS. Microsoft is expected to launch the Windows 8 Update 2 in August.

Windows 9 to have new activation methods

WZor claimed that Microsoft will back the launch of Windows 9 with heavy advertising blitzkrieg and a new distribution method. The new activation methods will tie a copy of Windows 9 more closely with a specific PC. It will require the user to log in to Microsoft Store, and users won’t be given an activation key. Talking about Windows 8, WZor said that there will be new updates after the Update 2 due next month. But no new features will be added to it.

Motivation behind the new activation method is “problems in China.” The world’s most populous country recently banned Windows 8. Notably, a couple of weeks ago, WZor claimed that Microsoft may announce Windows 9 at its Worldwide Partner Conference, which begins July 13 in Washington D.C. That claim was missing in the latest report, but WZor reassured us that the new OS will be launched this fall. However, he only talked about the announcement, without revealing whether it will be a Developer... Read more

Answer:Microsoft to Force Microsoft Store Account to Activate Windows 9

Not sure how logging into the store ties the OS more specifically to a computer. Doesn't seem right at all. However, if it is only logging onto the Microsoft Store to activate, and not forcing a Microsoft account to use the computer, I can see that being okay. As long as the local account continues to be an option, things will be fine. If I'm forced to use a Microsoft account to use my computer... I'll stay on 8.1. And then maybe move to Linux.

Transformation of UI is already being done in 8.1 Update 1. No surprise that it would be further enhanced.

Launch of 9 wouldn't put an end to 8. And let's face it, Microsoft never lost its dominance on the desktop market. There is nothing for them to re-establish here. The only thing they need to establish is a stronger presence in the mobile market.

Hey all - just happened to notice that WU has not been updating. I built this PC a year and a half ago; it claims to have last checked for updates on Dec. 2, 2016. "Update history" claims "no updates have been installed yet." Hmm.

So I tried several of the suggested fixes here and elsewhere, including resetting WU, SFC command, and started poking in the registry, where I noticed that finally went to download the WU fix-it utility.....and I discovered that in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows, I don't have a "windowsupdate" folder like I should. I ran AVG and Malwarebytes and they claimed to have found and quarantined some malware, but no success. So I went to download the Windows Update Troubleshooter, and my brower (Chrome or IE) will not connect to download.microsoft.com.

SO

Is it possible a virus/malware (though they should all be cleaned up now, but the issue persists) has both removed Windows Update from my registry *and* is actively preventing me from connecting to Microsoft to fix this?? This really is a weird issue!

Thanks so much for reading all of this - I would greatly appreciate your expertise!!

Wow is this interface ever antiquated. You have to know the name of the DLL containing the icon you want. Microsoft really should update this to make use of icons already in the registry and let us pick from those, no choosing of executable needed. Much more user friendly, and would stop the endless stream of questions about changing icons. Now the only issue is that not all apps actually register themselves... but that's easily solved by keeping the current interface around as a fallback. Come on Microsoft; you committed to Windows as a service, can't you fix this bit of ugliness?

Answer:Microsoft surprisingly hasn't updated the icon changer

Honestly I feel that's something that's one of the zillion legacy stuff left over that normal users won't ever touch. I'm not sure they want to promote icon changing too.

Just learning Windows 10. I wanted to place the Weather Channel App in my start screen. Went to the App Store. I skipped 'select an account' and clicked on the 'Free' button. If that is a download button then I have been in a status of "Working..." for over 10 minutes. Decided to close out the window. I am trying to discern, overall, if a Microsoft Account is a necessary evil or helper regarding Win10. I have searched the web for a few answers. Can't really conclude anything. Can apps be retrieved without a MA? Have read that ones email address is quite vulnerable with MA - imagine that! - I read that on the web! Is a MA safe? Would the forum please chime in to help me sort out one of the many things to learn about Win 10?? Are there honest pros and cons that stand out to having a MA for Win10? Never had one for Win7Pro. Looking for a place where I could ask the following I thought that this forum might be able to help. If not, then any suggestions as to where else I could ask would be appreciated.

I have a friend over in London UK and ever since she got Windows 8 on a new laptop she has had shall we say less than complimentary comments about the OS. She misses W7 and even when she asked her tech about installing it in her laptop the tech said he couldn't get it from Microsoft. Since I have no knowledge as to how Microsoft's OS distribution system works abroad I cannot comment on it other than what my friend and her tech related about it.

But apart from using W8 the big problem for her seems to be in the signing in with her Microsoft account. The little that I've read of this it seems that one has to do so in order to take advantage of all the apps and some other features.

I remember some years back that another friend of mine here in the US had an ATT account and best I could tell it worked like the Microsoft signing in. In other words, both of the accounts somehow filter the user's experience, it's like a middle-man between you and the internet.

My experience is different from those in that I am able to access the browser/web without having to sign in with any account whatsoever. I have Cox Cable as the provider and my accessing is simply turning on the pc, click Firefox and I'm ready to go. And since I've yet in all my years of using a computer have encountered this type of obstacl... Read more

Answer:Question about need for Microsoft accounts in Windows 8.1

No, he does NOT need to have a Microsoft Account. All he needs is a local Windows User Account which does not need an internet connection.A Microsoft Account or Microsoft ID is required only for certain Microsoft websites & services, it has nothing to do with Windows on your computer.

I could access the store with my Comcast account.. a great PR move on Microsoft's part. as most providers use all operations systems anyways for their customers..

Can anyone recommend an email client for Windows 8 which will support multiple email accounts but with the following features:
- A single inbox for mail sent to all accounts
- The ability to easily select a sender id/reply email address when a new email is being created, or when responding to an existing email?

I've tried using a separate Gmail account to bring the emails into a single inbox, but the Windows 8 mail app will only allow selection of an alternative sender id if I also add my other email accounts to it, and even then the process of changing the sender id is quite laborious - i.e. 2 additional clicks just to get to the option of selecting the "sender" account.

Posting this here as both a question and FYI for anyone that may run into this in the future. Last November, I purchased Windows 10 Pro (full retail) from the Microsoft Store as a digital download. I found it strange that they did not send me a key, so no problem I'll just use Produkey to extract it and store it somewhere safe if I ever have to do a re-install.

Well fast forward to yesterday. I recently built a new system (specs in sig), and to make a long story short I went through LITERAL HELL with Microsoft to get this re-activated. The key I extracted from the previous install was blocked due to the hardware changes. I think.. oh ok, no problem.. I'll just activate by phone.... WRONG. It still failed. I ended up calling Microsoft support, got transferred 4 times, and finally got to a nice young lady that remoted into my machine and fixed the issue for me and got the system activated.

So upon further research.. Microsoft has changed the way they do the licensing a bit for Windows 10. I have what I believe is called a "digital entitlement" which is basically locked to the hardware it was installed on. At first they told me I would have to buy another copy of Windows 10 and I was furious and demanded a supervisor, at which point they realized I had bought a legitimate copy and proceeded with getting it activated. This may be old news for some, but posting my experience and what I uncovered anyhow.

So here's my question.. is the Produkey method ... Read more

Answer:Windows 10 Microsoft Store purchase - where's the key?

The product key is likely a generic key because as you said the licensing is done via digital entitlement. It's very similar to how product keys on OEM activated computers are basically generic, place-holder keys.

The nice part about digital entitlement is that you can reinstall without typing in a key, you just skip they key and if the system was already activated the new install will activate as well. The bad part, as you encountered, is that the store purchase, just like the free Windows 10 upgrades, you don't actually get a key if you want to move it (if you're even legally able to).

Regarding your issue, when you bought the 10 license originally did you see a EULA that mentioned transferring to a new computer?

I just tried to find some EULA information for the version of 10 purchased from their store and I cannot find any. I really don't know what the restriction is for transferring.

Hello, I was receiving an error whenever I attempted to install an application via the Microsoft Store after receiving my brand new Surface Book. I found a fix to my specific issue here. The relevant bits are:

Code:
As you are unable to install an app from the Windows store, I suggest you to try the below and check if it helps.Method 1: Run WSReset.exe .

Press Windows+R key to open Run boxEnter wsreset.exe in the Run command and then tap or click OK.Restart your computer and check.
If resetting Windows Store cache does not help. Try the below,
Method 2: Re-register Windows Store by running the following commands in a CMD window started as Administrator:
Follow the below steps.

Open the Start menu, type Windows PowerShell in the search bar.Right click on the Windows PowerShell and select Run as administrator. Then enter the chkdsk command
PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted

$manifest = (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.WindowsStore).InstallLocation + '\AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest
After running #3 in method 2 the Windows Store wouldn't even start. So based on what I was seeing I tried what was suggested at this link, relevant bits below:

Now, use the Add-AppxPackage command to reinstall the Windows Store. Use the following command:Add-AppxPackage -register "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\<PackageFullName>" ?DisableDevelopmentMode

Answer:Microsoft Store is broken in Windows 10 and I can't fix it

Hi, you can (apparently- I've not tried it) remove store from current user or all users, but this is NOT RECOMMENDED
See:
Apps - Uninstall in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums
(To remove Store app from current account only - NOT RECOMMENDED)
Get-AppxPackage *windowsstore* | Remove-AppxPackage

(To remove Store app from all current accounts - NOT RECOMMENDED)
Code:

Get-appxpackage -allusers | where-object {$_.packagename -like "*windowsstore*"} | remove-appxpackage
(To remove Store app from new accounts created afterwards - NOT RECOMMENDED)
Code:
Get-appxprovisionedpackage ?online | where-object {$_.packagename ?like "*windowsstore*"} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage ?online

Naturally you're welcome to try and see how far you get, but I suspect you will end up doing a (relatively painless) in place upgrade install: I've seen a number of people struggling with apparently confined defects (myself included) for which one might think there should be an easy fix, and waste a considerable amount of time doing so.

Note that typically used Powershell commands from build 10586 break things rather than fix them now. Frustrating.

Was at the Microsoft Store today and they had a Windows 8 preview on a Samsung tablet. Amazing is the last word I would use. It was incredible. No way this translates well for a desktop, but it certainly works well on the tablet. Not to say it won't be nice, just not the same great experience as on the tablet. Not to mention while I was there, one of the store reps greeted the customers to a demonstration, which I thought was pretty good marketing. Just thought I'd share.

Hi,

The Microsoft Store on my laptop (Dell Inspiron 14 / Windows 10 version 1607) does not work. A screen capture is included in this post. The issue started a few weeks ago, before the last few updates. I have attempted several fixes that I have found on the Internet, all with no success. I have done the clear and reset fix - i.e. wsreset.exe. I have done several power shell command fixes with no success. The last thing I did was a system file system check - i.e. sfc /scannow and everything was fine. The issue occurs even on a newly created user. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks,

If you abide completely by the EULA, that's correct. However, many people have been able to call in and have it re-activated on another computer...as long as it's only installed on one computer at any given time.

To do the following on Windows 10:
Settings / Accounts / Sync your settings

We need a Microsoft Account. So our account settings can be save online (Internet).
I don?t like that.

I would like to save all my accounts settings locally.

Microsoft say:
?Some Windows features are only available if you are using a Microsoft account or work account.?

I know all companies like to spy their customer (sure they say no ? happy you believe them).

In not a so long time we can save all accounts settings locally.
No need to show that to Microsoft (Cloud).

Can we save our accounts settings (Web browser settings, password, Language preferences, color, etc.) locally?

Thanks!

Hi,

This is my first post. I installed windows 8 last night, not knowing all that much about it and realize its going to take a bit of getting used to. I'm upgrading (actually built a new computer, so its actually a fresh install) from a win 7 box that my wife and I share. We typically use a single user account, with auto login-- basically no or minimal security. She checks her email and facebook in a browser, and I'll do the same. I'm trying to figure out what's best for us with windows 8.

I want be able to try out and use the new interface and live tiles, but I suspect that given that we have different personal accounts for email, social networking, and such- it probably makes sense for us to have two separate windows accounts-- in fact, I'm curious if there is a way to have two sets of email/calendar live tiles on a single login account. Is this the case?

If I decide to use two separate accounts for win 8, instead of a single account, is there a way to make it easy to switch between users without needing to enter a password? (I suppose the answer will depend on whether the accounts are password protected to begin with; right now, I've got my account setup as a windows account w/ password).

Thanks.

Answer:Home computer: single account or multiple accounts?

I've been setting up 2 separate accounts for the past 2 weeks and I am nearly finished. The problem is I had to set up 2 new accounts on Outlook so as to be able to login and administer both and for each of us to login separately. The problem occurred when trying to separate emails for each other. I have had to login all our accounts on the web such as Amazon ebay etc, and give them each separate and new email addresses. Make no mistake this has to be done as in the future things will get very complicated having one email address for two people. Now it's finally done no probs.....

Many Windows 10 users are facing Store related issues as can be seen in various forums. Microsoft Windows Store team has also identified some of the top Store related issues and is working on their diagnosis and fixes.
Some of the Store issues being identified and mentioned by the Windows Store quality team in Answers are : Store launch failures : When you click on Store app to open, it just opens for a moment and closes or not opening at all. App updates not completing or downloads getting stuck : While downloading new apps or updating existing apps from the Windows Store, one may notice that the app download stops in between without completing or the download appears to be persistently stuck at “Pending”. “Server Stumbled" error VCLibs system libraries being downloaded multiple times.Store is missing error
So Microsoft Windows Store team has identified these top Store issues and is working on to fix them. Microsoft appreciating the users patience is working on the details to determine and deploy fixes. It will be posted or informed as soon these are ready. (Source:meraTechPort) EDIT 14/08/2015 : Many users reporting that now they can download their stuck 'pending 'apps in Store..so seems Microsoft already fixing the glitches..no details yet from Microsoft.

Are there any ways to block the Microsoft store on Windows 10 Pro now that the official method by Microsoft was removed with the anniversary update? Or at the very least, is there a way to stop people from downloading and installing apps? Even though the user is logged on as a User, not Administrator, they can still install the app (but not traditional software executables). Is there a way I can maybe do this on the network level by blocking ports?

I do have some Enterprise licenses but I would rather not have to waste them if the computer already comes with Windows 10 Pro.

"Full of" may be a little strong (maybe not).
But you have to be careful where ever you shop. There is a post over at the JRiver Media Center forum about a guy RAMESH NAGALLA who is selling JRiver for $3.99 - and bunch of other programs that he doesn't own. I bet it would be tough to get refund from this guy.

I am a windows insider. I have been complaining about their "modern apps" failures for 6 months now. Most people tried to shut me up by saying they were test releases. But as we got closer and closer, I escalated more and more including Satya Nadella and Gabe Aul. They seemed to come out with bandaid fixes but never addressed the root cause. While the store is likely to stabilize over time, you can look forward to problems with other modern apps like "People", "Microsoft Money (Finance)", and other apps that are the ones generally supporting live tiles. Mail and calendar have not been resistant to this problem. While I suspect that data in your users/appdata folder is getting corrupted, windows folks in Redmond have been keeping mum about this issue. So sorry for your experience with Windows 10. I can tell you that classic apps seems to be pretty rock solid. In my opinion, only when Microsoft starts debugging with tracing and a sniffer on their network do they have a chance of resolving this. My experience is that they keep recoding and hope it goes away. Best of lu... Read more

Is there a way to prevent people from adding any email/Microsoft accounts to Windows 10?
I found the option in GPEdit
Local -> Computer Config -> Windows Settings -> Security Options -> Accounts: Block Microsoft accounts

I set it to Users can't add Microsoft accounts, ran gpupdate /force and restarted the system.
Still am able to add email accounts, and a Microsoft one, if indirectly for the later.

Answer:Disable adding email/Microsoft accounts to Windows 10

OK. I found an answer.
You need to modify two registry entries for this to work. Or at least, it is what I needed to do at least.
First Entry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
Add or modify NoConnectedUser to 3
Second Entry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\PolicyManager\default\Settings\AllowYourAccount
Add or modify value to 0
Reboot isn?t necessary and it will apply to the current account.

Hi All,

I need help finding the folder for the games I downloaded from the Microsoft Store in Windows 10. It gets annoying finding games through the search tool and having them pinned to my taskbar would also be inconvenient. I would rather they were in a folder. Does anyone know how to get them all into one folder? I've tried..

Answer:How to find games I've downloaded from Microsoft Store (Windows 10)

If they are xbox app games they are listed and can be launched via the xbox app.

For a list of all your downloaded app games, click the store app, click your account photo on the upper right of your screen and click "my library", all your game downloads will be there, you can then click on a game and then click open to play it.

First, I am not sure whether this is the correct discussion, sorry if it is not.
The problem: Two days ago I bought the app Oxford Hachette French Dictionary from the Microsoft Store using their web page. I have confirmation that the payment has gone through and that I am the "owner".
I attempted to download the app, clicking on the button on the web page, whence Store opened. The app appears to have downloaded and Install starts, but then there is an error Code: 0x87AF000B. I have done this several times just in case.
In the "elevated" cmd prompt, I have entered
net stop wuauserv | move "c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution" "c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution.old" | net start wuauserv
then rebooted the computer. This made no difference to downloading the purchased app so I reversed what I had done. [ | is standing for carriage return or enter]
I ran WSReset.exe. The result was "ms-windows:store:PurgeCaches | Package could not be registered."
I'm scared to go further in case I make the situation worse.
Please would someone advise how to make MS Store downloads work.
Thanking you in advance for your answer/s
regards
JanetW

Hello, I do own a Microsoft Lumia 550 from the 30th of December '15 and I didn't have a problem with it since the last days, when I wanted to download from the Windows Store the app called "CSR Racing". It downloads until the end, it stays there 5 minutes and after that it shows up an error code. I did install a lot of other apps from the Store but it seems this one is the only one that doesn't want to install and to be ready to go. Can somebody help me with my problem?
P.S: The phone itself came with Windows 10 installed and I did do the phone update(s) and did install all app updates, I even did a factory reset to see if that solves the problem, but no luck there :(

Microsoft officials say the latest Windows 10 cumulative update fixes problems some users were having with Windows Store. What else is in it? We have no idea.

The newest cumulative update is KB3081438. The Microsoft Support page says nothing about the specific features and fixes that are new to this update beyond "This update includes improvements to enhance the functionality of Windows 10."

Answer:Microsoft's third Windows 10 cumulative update said to fix Store issues

"This update includes improvements to enhance the functionality"
Any update with a vague description like that should be considered suspicious. If I were offered an update worded like that for my windows 8.1 machine I would definitely refuse it, if they won't say what it is for it is either not important or not pleasant. Remember that this is the sort of language which was the wording used for the KB page of kb3035583 when it was first released (it's page has been updated since to give a more accurate description of what it does, but when that update first came out it's page was all vague like that).

I need a clipboard utility that will store formatted clips in a single file with the formatting remaining in the saved clips. I am using Clipboard Helper but this program only stores in txt format and erases all the original formatting of the clipboard entry. I have also tried Ditto which does preserve the formating but Ditto stores in a database and with too many saved clips, my computer hangs. I need the clips saved sequenentially so when I go to do a final save of the clips, all the clips are in the order in which they were saved.

Does anyone have a better clipboard utility to do what I want done?

Thank you in advance for your replies.

Hi there Tech Support Guys..

I have been asked to set up a PC 'kiosk' for a family member's store. They want a PC that will display their website only, so that customers can browse stock listings etc, mostly to show stock that can be ordered but is not in store.
I am thinking about recommending one of the new touch-screen all-in-one PC's. I have a good amount of experience with computers (currently studying) and have a few ideas but I thought someone is bound to have a great recommendation for me!!

Any information would be a great help, I want to get this right the first time so it can be trouble free. I am going to ensure the PC purchased has inbuilt WiFi for the existing connection instore, and I want to make it as maintenance-free as possible - the owners of the store are not very tech savvy.
It needs to be able to be fired up by the staff and get started with minimal input.

Thanks in advance!!
Bener.

Have been using Microsoft Outlook 2007 with Windows XP for some years. E-mail accounts can be set up manually in Outlook.
Am now trying to move to Windows 8 machine. This does not seem to give the option of setting up e-mail accounts manually - you have to enter addresses of your accounts and then Windows 8 goes off to the internet and retrieves the settings etc for those accounts.
OK in theory no doubt but my Windows 8 cannot find my e-mail accounts (both .freeserve accounts).
Is there any way in Windows 8 that I can overide the default of going on line to be able to enter account details myself ?
Regards to all

Expect I can no log into the Windows Store, I get an error that says im not connected to the Internet when I clearly am because other metro apps like weather and news are getting data. I also can not link my Microsoft account as it when it loads It just say service not avabile at the moment.

I've tried a refresh, and then a whole new complete instaill

Any idea on how to fix?

Update: The store seems to work now, but i'm still having trouble linking my account

Not, it seems, in the .pst file, or any other file that I can see on the MS support pages, unless I'm failing to interpret them right.Migrating between computers, I can transfer folders and contacts, but have to re-enter e-mail accounts one at a time. This information has to be stored somewhere....Any ideas folks?Mike Edwards

Answer:Where does Outlook store email accounts?

Hi, I manage several labs, whereby currently machines are in a workgroup, and users use a shared account to log in and and attach to a profile that is running tests. We want to up the security, bring these lab machines into a domain structure, and
enforce each user to log in as themselves, but they need to all connect to the same desktop process which is running the test suite. Is this possible, and how do we go about it? We are using Windows 7 and Windows 10

Thanks John

Hi guys!

I'm having this problem since yesterday, and I can't find anyone with the same problem.
I have this problem where no microsoft applications work. I can't open Edge, Windows Store or Photos app. When I want to open them, there is absolutely 0 response. No error-message, nothing! When I observe the task manager while starting these apps, they DO appear for like, 1 second. They immediately disappear though.
I don't know what the issue is. I have this problem since I installed the application: SaferVPN (I already uninstalled it).
Ou yea, my Windows search doesn't work either. No reaction from the system at all.

I already tried running sfc /scannow.
My computer is up to date.
There were no windows updates involved at the point of time where the problem occurred.
I tried restarting windows several times.

I run Windows 10 for quite a long time now. Also, when I want to add a Microsoft Account, it give no response either. (I think thats because it usually opens a small Edge Browser Windows for entering the credentials.

Can you guys please help me? I usually find my solutions in already existing forums, but I didn't find anyone who had the same problem as me (perhaps I didn't google the right thing and couldn't find it because of that.)

Thanks for anything in advance.
Kind Regards,
Maarten

Answer:Microsoft Preinstall Apps don't work (Edge, Windows Store etc.)

Hi smaardy, welcome to Ten Forums. The best way right now to fix your problem is by doing an repair install/ in place upgrade. This is from the Tutorial Forum. Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade - Windows 10 Forums . Choose the option to keep your apps and files. There was a way to re-register the windows apps, but it has not been working with the latest version of windows (fall update or version 1511).

Just like it happened in Windows 8, Windows 10 requires users to log in with a Microsoft account in order to install apps from the Store, but this is no longer valid for those whose computers are powered by the Pro SKU of the operating system.

German website WIndowsArea has discovered that Microsoft suddenly made a policy change that makes it possible for Windows 10 Pro users to install apps from the Windows Store without the need for a Microsoft Account.

There are some limitations though. First of all, only freeware applications can be installed, so if you want to purchase an app, an account is still required.

Then, if you?re trying to update a paid application that?s already installed on your Windows 10 device, an account is once again needed.

Why the change?
Microsoft hasn?t explained why exactly it made this change, but given the fact that it concerns the Pro version of the operating system, it?s not difficult to see that the company specifically targeted companies that are trying to get more control over what users install on their systems.

On the other hand, it?s not yet clear if the Enterprise SKU of Windows 10 can also install apps without a Microsoft account because reports in this regard are still mixed, with some claiming that it works, while others indicating that it doesn?t.

Without a doubt, installing apps from the Windows Store without an account can boost adoption of Store apps, but we?ve reached out to Microsoft to find out if this is inde... Read more
